The bushing for the gear shift is broken causing the lever to disconnect from the cord preventing the vehicle from shifting gears. This caused the vehicle to become stuck in reverse. The car was stuck in reverse when attempting to shift to drive, nearly causing my wife to crash into another vehicle. There are multiple videos on YouTube demonstrating this problem, it is a known issue. The vehicle/component has not been manufactured. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms.
CAR WAS IN MOTION, TURNING TO PARK ON SLOPE PARKING AREA THEN GEAR FALL OUT AND ROLLING BACKWARD, THEREFORE TRY TO SHIFT INTO PARKING GEAR, ALL GEARS DIDN'T WORK, GEAR SHIFT WAS NOT WORKING AT ALL THEN CAR ROLLED DOWNHILL TO OTHER SIDE OF CURVE. TO PREVENT ACCIDENT I GOT OUT TO STOP THE CAR FROM ROLLING BY HOLDING ON TO THE REAR DOOR HANDLE, COULD'NT STOP IT, IN THE PROCESS I HAD INJURY TO MY LEFT SHOULDER AND BACK.
TRACTION CONTROL HAS RANDOMLY ENGAGED 4 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK, AT SPEEDS AS LOW 35 MPH AND ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. PAVEMENT WAS DRY AND WE WERE DRIVING STRAIGHT, NOT TURNING. BRAKING IS APPLIED CAUSING TEMPORARY LOSS OF SPEED AND PULLING STEERING TO ONE SIDE FOR ABOUT 1-2 SECONDS. CONTROL RETURNS AND TRAC CONTROL LIGHT CONTINUES TO BLINK. DOES NOT RESULT IN AN ERROR CODE.

RACK AND PINION STEERING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. PRETTY SCARY TO THINK I COULD BE HEADED DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH MY FIVE CHILDREN AND POTENTIALLY LOSE CONTROL OF STEERING CAPABILITY BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY PART.

POWERTRAIN FAILS AT 140,000 MILES WHICH IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR TOYOTA [REPAIR COST ~4000 QUOTED FROM DEALER]. ALSO, THERE ARE PLENTY OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS STARTS WITH FAILING ACTUATORS SUCH AS SLIDING DOOR ACTUATOR [$~1500 QUOTE FROM DEALER], HVAC AIR BLEND ACTUATORS [$~850 QUOTE FROM DEALER]AND VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SOLENOIDS [$~500 QUOTE FROM LOCAL]. PLEASE HELP US AND OTHERS TO SHED SOME LIGHT ON SUCH KIND OF ISSUES SINCE IT COSTS TOO MUCH. IN WINTER TIME WHEN HEATER IS NOT WORKING.
ON 9/10/17 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE ABOVE MENTIONED CAR. SHE TRIED TO PARK THE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT, THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT IN PARK, THE SHIFTER WAS FREE AND THEN CAR STARTED ROLLING. THE CAR WAS ABOUT TO GO OVER THE RAVINE, SHE PRESSED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. AND STOPPED THE CAR, OTHERWISE SHE WOULD HAVE GONE THROUGH THE RAVINE AND HIT THE MAIN ROAD TRAFFIC. SHE CALLED ME AND I GOT HER HOME AND THEN WENT BACK TO TRY TO TURN THE CAR ON, IT WILL NOT RUN AND GEARS SHIFTER WAS STUCK. I GOT THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AT EOC HOMEWOOD STORE #0102.
CURRENTLY THERE IS A RECALL OUT FOR THE SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID ASSEMBLY IN CERTAIN TOYOTA SIENNA VAN MODELS FROM 2004-2005 AND 2007 TO 2009. I OWN A 2005 SIENNA LE AND HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH MY SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID. HOWEVER, I HAVE A 2006 SIENNA LE AND UPON SHUTTING OFF THE CAR AFTER DRIVING, I CAN MOVE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SELECTOR OUT OF PARK WHEN THE KEY IS OUT OF THE IGNITION AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT DEPRESSED. THIS CONDITION CAN HAPPEN 50 PERCENT OF THE TIME AND IS QUITE REPRODUCIBLE ON MY VAN. I WILL BE CONTACTING TOYOTA USA TODAY, BUT I THOUGHT IT PERTINENT THAT YOUR AGENCY IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS WELL. I WAS TRAVELING AT 65MPH ON INTERSTATE 90 EAST. THE CAR WHILE DRIVING WHEN I WAS GIVING GAS IT DIDNT RUN FORWARD AND IT JUST STOPPED ON THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH MY KIDS IN IT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE RADIATOR PIPE GOT CORRODED SO THE COOLING OIL FROM THE TRANSMISSION DIDNT FLOW PROPERLY AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DURING THE CAR RUNNING.THE TOYOTA HAS SAFETY RECALL OF EXCESSIVE CORROSION FOR THE SPARE TIRE THEN SAME THING APPLIES AS THE CORROSION PART IS UNDERNEATH OF THE ENGINE.
ALL FOUR ALLOY WHEELS ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE THE PAINT BUBBLING AND CHIPPING OFF LEAVING THE WHEEL EXTERIOR EXPOSED TO WEATHER AND FURTHER CORROSION. UNDERNEATH THE CHIPPED PAINT THE ALLOY IS CORRODING, POTENTIALLY COMPROMISING THE STRENGTH AND OVERALL INTEGRATY OF THE WHEELS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED AIR LOSS IN BOTH FRONT TIRES OVER THE COURSE OF JUST A FEW DAYS. MY LOCAL TIRE SHOP CHECKED BOTH FRONT TIRES FOR PUNCTURES BUT FOUND NOTHING. THEY THEN REMOVED THE TIRES FROM THE RIMS AND INDICATED THE RIMS HAD CORRODED AROUND THE OUTER DIAMETER OF THE RIM WHERE THE TIRE BEAD IS SUPPOSED TO SEAL. THEY CLEANED THE CORROSION FROM THE RIM INTERIOR AND APPLIED A BEAD SEALING COMPOUND THAT FILLS IN THE CORRODED AND PITTED BEAD AREA OF THE RIM ALLOWING THE TIRE BEAD TO SEAL AND HOLD AIR. WHEN IT COMES TIME TO ROTATE THE TIRES THE TECH PERSON INDICATED THAT I SHOULD ALSO HAVE THEM SEAL THE TIRES PLACED ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AS THEY WOULD PROBABLY START LOOSING AIR AS WELL WITH THE ADDED WEIGHT OF THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR MODEL OF THE TOYOTA SIENNA. THUS FAR,TOYOTA WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE WHICH SEEMS TO ME TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
WILL DRIVING I CAME TO A STOP SIGN AND PROCEEDED TO SLOW DOWN BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO REV A HIGH RATE AND LUNGED FORWARD INTO THE FOUR WAY CROSS BEFORE FINALLY COMING TO A STOP. *TR
AT FIRST, I HAVE THE TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR LIGHT CONTINUING TO LIT UP. THEN ONE MORNING, THE VAN WAS SLOW TO RESPONSE TO SHIFTING GEAR AND ACCELERATION. AFTER STOPPING, IT WON'T START AND MOVE INTO GEAR AT ALL. THERE WAS NO ENGINE LIGHT BEING LIT OR WARNING SIGN. TOWED TO SHORE TOYOTA AT MAYS LANDING, NJ. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION OIL HAD ALL LEAKED OUT DUE TO THE BURST OF ABRUPT FAILURE ON THE INLET TO THE RADIATOR. THEY ASKED ME TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR AT A COST OF $1,150.26! AFTER REPAIRED, THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD AND DIFFICULT TO MOVE INTO GEAR. THEY QUOTED ANOTHER $3,780 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS FURIOUS. SINCE THAT THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE VAN CAN BE DRIVEN. I WAS PREPARED TO TRADE IT IN AND WEIGHING MY OPTIONS. THE VAN HAS 133,279 MILES. I DROVE IT OK INITIALLY, HOWEVER, I EXPERIENCED THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO ACCELERATE TWICE. AFTER 15 MILES WHEN I STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VAN JUST STUCK- IT CANNOT MOVE IN ANY OF THE GEARS AT ALL. I TOWED BACK HOME. AFTER COOLING DOWN, IT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. THE NEW TRANSMISSION FLUID SMELLED BURNT. I AM WONDERING WHY: ?WHY THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT LIT UP AT ALL WHEN THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE WAS SO HIGH BEFORE SPOILING THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION? ?WHY WAS THAT NOT EVEN ANY DTC CODES STORED ON THE OBDII SYSTEMS AT ALL AFTER ALL THESE DEFECTS? ?THIS SEEMED THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE STICKY TRANSMISSION THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT, YET TOYOTA HAS NOT INFORMING THE CUSTOMER OF ANY ACTIONS NEED TO BE TAKE. I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING NOTICES ABOUT THE VARIOUS RECALLS AND THE POTENTIAL OF MONETARY COMPENSATION, HOWEVER, NOTHING HAS BEEN REALIZED YET. ?THIS SEEMED TO BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS, IF THE VAN CAN BE SLOWED DOWN OR STOPPED SO DRASTICALLY, THE PEOPLE IN THE VEHICLE COULD BE BUMPED OVER. *TR
THE CAR WAS IN PARK IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. WITHOUT PUTTING THE CAR IN DRIVE, THE CAR ROLLED FORWARD AFTER I EXITED THE VEHICLE. I QUICKLY TURNED TO GET BACK IN THE CAR TO STOP THE VEHICLE, AS IT WAS ROLLING TOWARDS MY OTHER CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY. IN DOING SO, I SUFFERED A KNEE INJURY, FELL TO THE GROUND I INJURED MY KNEE AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT MADE CONTACT WITH MY OTHER CAR. THE INJURY TO MY KNEE WAS SIGNIFICANT, REQUIRED SURGERY, AND I HAVE STILL NOT RETURNED TO WORK. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA LE WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THAT IS CURRENTLY AT 76256 MILES. I HAD BOUGHT IT NEW. (DELIVERY DATE 1-JAN-2007) ON 20-DEC-2012, AT 75800 MILES, I NOTICED A WHIRRING SOUND (LIKE A TURBO WHINE) WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE GAS (NO LOAD) AROUND 45 MPH. THE GRINDING/WHIRRING NOISE WOULD BE MOST APPARENT BETWEEN 25 MPH TO 45 MPH. I TOOK IT TO MY NEAREST TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ON 31-DEC-2012 FOR CHECKUP ( 76257 MILES AT THE TIME) AND THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING BAD AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE EXACT DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE "SIDE CARRIER BEARING INSIDE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL IS MAKING THE NOISE. NEED NEW TRANSMISSION - $5700.00". THE ESTIMATED COST IS $5700.00 THIS LOOKS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW IN THE TRANSMISSION, I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE DRIVEN THE VAN WITH LOT OF CARE. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT THE TOYOTA TRANSMISSION WOULD START TO FAIL AT LESS THAT 76000 MILES. I HAD BOUGHT A TOYOTA VAN ASSUMING THAT THEIR VEHICLES ARE RELIABLE. I BELIEVE THERE ARE MANY 2006 TOYOTA SIENNAS ON THE ROAD THAT WILL START HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THIS CAN CAUSE A HAZARDOUS SITUATION IF THE TRANSMISSION FAILS ON A HIGHWAY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. TOYOTA SHOULD PROVIDE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE SIENNA TRANSMISSION JUST LIKE THEY DID FOR RAV4 2001-2003 MODEL WHEN THEY EXTENDED THAT WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. *TR
