HELLO, I OWN A 2011 SIENNA LE V6. IN COLD WEATHER, IT HAS A PROBLEM WHEN BREAKING WHERE THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD AS IT COMES TO A STOP (A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN RPM IS SEEN JUST AS THE VEHICLE IS ABOUT TO STOP). SO MUCH SO THAT IT SEEMS AS THOUGH IT'S GIVING ITSELF GAS (INCREASED RPM) AND DRIVING ITSELF, CREATING A HAZARD. I CAN LITERALLY TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VAN WILL INCREASE IT'S SPEED TO ABOUT 35MPH WITH NO INPUT FROM ME IN REGARDS TO THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER WARMING UP, THE PROBLEM DOES TEND TO FADE AWAY. BUT THE WARMUP PERIOD, ESPECIALLY ON COLD NORTHEAST DAYS, COULD TAKE AS LONG AS 20 MINS. AND 8 MILES OF CITY DRIVING TO OCCUR (AND THIS IS AFTER A 5 MIN. PARKED IDLE WARMUP PERIOD), AND EVEN THEN, THE VAN STILL EXHIBITS THIS REVVING ISSUE SOMEWHAT, JUST NOT AS SIGNIFICANT AS WHEN IT'S IN THE WARMUP STAGE. ON MY FIRST COMPLAINT LAST WINTER, THE DEALER CHANGED OUT THE THERMOSTAT AND CONSIDERED THE PROBLEM FIXED. HOWEVER, THE VAN CONTINUES TO SHOW THE SAME PROBLEM THIS WINTER. AS YOU CAN SEE ON THIS INTERNET THREAD, MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. I BELIEVE EITHER THE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION PROGRAMMING NEEDS TO BE MODIFIED TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *TR
THIS IS FOR A SIENNA 2011 WITH AWD THAT I PURCHASED NEW IN OCT 2010. AT APPROXIMATELY 27,000 MILES, TOYOTA DEALER RECOMMENDS REPLACEMENT OF RUN FLAT TIRES WITH BRIDGESTONE TURANZA RUN FLATS. AT 45,000 MILES, SAME DEALER RECOMMENDS REPLACEMENT OF TIRES AGAIN. THEY NOW RECOMMEND A NON RUN FLAT TIRE. THIS WILL BE THIRD SET OF TIRES FOR THIS VEHICLE THAT IS 3 YRS OLD AND HAS BEEN SERVICED BY TOYOTA EVERY 5,000 MILES. THERE APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH EXCESSIVE WEAR OF RUN FLAT TIRES ON THIS VEHICLE. TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS ISSUE AND REPLACE THESE TIRES. *TR
MY SIENNA FALLS UNDER THE CURRENT RECALL FOR UNSAFE TIRES FOR SIENNAS USED FOR TOWING, BUT THE DEALER REFUSES TO PROVIDE THE EXTRA LOAD TIRES BECAUSE MY HITCH WAS INSTALLED AFTERMARKET. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH THE TOWING PACKAGE, HOWEVER I WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER TO GET THE HITCH INSTALLED ELSEWHERE TO SAVE TIME AND MONEY. REGARDLESS OF THAT FACT, I FAIL TO SEE HOW WHERE THE HITCH WAS INSTALLED MAKES THE TIRES SAFE VS. UNSAFE. TOYOTA IS CLEARLY HIDING BEHIND AN ARBITRARY POLICY. I USE THE VEHICLE FOR TOWING. ONE TIRE IS BEGINNING TO SHOW SIGNS OF EARLY FAILURE. TOYOTA NEEDS TO PROVIDE THE EXTRA LOAD TIRES ASAP. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. TOYOTA NEEDS TO COMPLY WITH THE RECALL. *TR
MY VAN IS ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD AND ON ITS 3RD SET OF TIRES! SERVICED REGULARLY AND ROTATED EVERY 5000 MILES. VAN ONLY HAS 59,000 MILES ON IT. SEEMS TO ME IT IS A TOYOTA ISSUE, AS I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
COMING AROUND A TURN AT 10 MPH, THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE BLEW OUT, WITH A TOTAL LOSS OF PRESSURE AND A WHOOSH OF AIR. THE TIRES WERE PROPERLY INFLATED AT THE TIME. THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT LIT. THE TIRES HAVE ONLY 23,547 MILES ON THEM. I DO NOT FEEL A TIRE THAT IS 2 YEARS OLD WITH THIS NUMBER OF MILES SHOULD SUFFER A COMPLETE FAILURE. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THAT OF MY FAMILY. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT, THIS TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULD CLOSE INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER DOOR MOTOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,150. UPDATED 03/31/14*LJ UPDATED 04/1/2014 *JS
I PURCHASED A 2011 AWD LIMITED SIENNA AND WITHIN 4,000 MILES OF ME OWNING IT (BOUGHT CERTIFIED PREOWNED FROM TOYOTA) I FAILED INSPECTION FOR TIRES. I REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES (BY TOYOTA) AND THEY PUT RUN FLAT BRIDGESTONE'S ON. AGAIN...ABOUT 15,000 MILES LATER, I AM AGAIN RUNNING ON TIRES THAT ARE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED FOR IRREGULAR WEAR. TOLD MY MECHANIC THAT THE TIRES ARE NOT SAFE. TOYOTA SAID THERE ARE NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE (SUSPENSION AND ALIGNMENT ARE PERFECT). SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? I AM DRIVING 3 SMALL CHILDREN IN THIS VEHICLE AND THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN! *JS
I WAS TRYING TO PARK MY VAN INSIDE A CAMPSITE, DRIVING AT APPROX 1.2 MPH WHEN MY VAN TOOK OFF LIKE A ROCKET. I COULDN'T STOP THE CAR EVEN BY BRAKING. LUCKILY MY VAN WENT INTO A DITCH, AIRBAGS OPENED UP, VAN WENT DOWN THE DITCH AND CAME UP AT AN ANGLE AND STOPPED. I WAS BADLY HURT AND PASSED OUT FOR FEW MINUTES, TAKEN TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM. THE 16 PAGE REPORT ORDERED BY TOYOTA THRU' A 3RD PARTY CLEARLY SHOWED THAT THE CAR WENT FROM 1.2 MPH TO 31.5 MPH, ENGINE RPM WENT FROM 800 TO 4800 RPM IN 4.2 SECS. I CHECKED WITH A REPUTABLE AUTO MECHANIC. HE COMMENTED THAT NO ONE CAN MANUALLY RAMP THE ENGINE RPM TO 4800 RPM. IT IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE WITH TOYOTA'S ELECTRONIC SYSTEM. TOYOTA HAS DENIED ANY ISSUE WITH THEIR CAR IN A LETTER TO ME.I WANT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ADMIN TO TAKE MY CASE AGAINST TOYOTA. IN THE MORNING CAR DID NOT START, BATTERY WAS DEAD. I CHARGED BATTERY OVERNIGHT . AFTER 2 HR OF DRIVING ( 120 MILES) CAR WAS PARKED FOR 2 HR , WHEN I TRIED TO START IT BATTERY IS DEAD AGAIN ( HAD TO JUMP START IT) AFTER DRIVING ~ 7 MILES I PARKED CAR AND BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED. AFTER 4 HR I CONNECTED AGAIN AND NO PROBLEM WITH STARTING. DEALER (SCHAUMBURG TOYOTA) KEPT MY CAR FOR 3 DAYS . THEY REPLACED SLIDING DOOR SWITCH AND INTEGRATION RELAY . THEY TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING IS FIXED . I PARKED CAR IN GARAGE AND IN THE MORNING I COULD NOT START IT AGAIN . HAD TO GO BACK TO DEALER . CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP LETS HOPE THEY WILL FIX THIS PROBLEM THIS TIME. *TR
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID THE AIRBAG DOESN'T NOT WORK NOW AND THEY ARE BLAMING IN ON A WIRING ISSUE, NOT AN AIR BAG ISSUE. THEY WANT ME TO PAY $220 TO INSTALL A NEW SPIRAL CABLE, BUT GIVE ME THE PART FOR FREE. THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. THE TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCKS HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY HAD A RECALL. *TR

(TOYOTA, SIENNA 2011) PASSENGER AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR ANTI-JAM SENSOR FAILED. OBJECT (MACBOOK) WAS PLACED IN DOOR POCKET COMPARTMENT. DOOR SWITCH WAS PRESSED AND DOOR BEGAN OPENING. MACBOOK DID NOT COMPLETELY CLEAR THE DOORS PATH COMPLETELY AND DOOR BEGAN CRUSHING IT. I COULD HEAR SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT AND SAW THE DOOR BEND THE LAPTOP AND PARK IN THE FULLY OPEN POSITION. YOU COULD CLEARLY SEE AND HEAR THE DOOR HAD MET AN OBSTACLE AND WAS STRUGGLING, BUT JUST PRESSED THROUGH IT. DOOR MADE NO ATTEMPT TO STOP OR REVERSE. THE MACBOOK WAS DAMAGED. THE WHOLE MACHINE WAS BENT BY THE DOOR AND I CAN NO LONGER FIT A CD IN THE OPTICAL SLOT BECAUSE IT IS NOW CURVED RATHER THAN FLAT. THESE DOORS ARE STRONG ENOUGH BE BEND METAL! THE "ANTI-JAM" SYSTEM FAILED. AFTER SEEING THAT, I REALLY THINK THAT THESE DOORS HAVE TO CAPABILITY TO SERIOUSLY INURE SOMEONE.
THE TIRES ON MY VAN HAVE EXCESSIVE WEAR AND NEED TO BE REPLACED AFTER ONLY 20,000 MILES. I INSTALLED A HITCH ON THE CAR MYSELF SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND USED IT TO TOW. I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA FOR MY 2011 SIENNA AWD MINIVAN THAT READS "THE TIRE AND LOADING INFORMATION PLACARD DOES NOT STATE THE CORRECT VEHICLE CAPACITY WEIGHT AS THE RATED LOAD FOR THE COMBINATION OF CARGO AND OCCUPANTS. INCORRECT INFORMATION ON THE VEHICLE PLACARD MAY LEAD TO TIRE OVERLOADING AND POSSIBLY CAUSE TIRE FAILURE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." IT GOES ON TO SAY "BASED UPON THIS INFORMATION TOYOTA HAS DETERMINED THAT THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS WILL BRING YOUR VEHICLE INTO COMPLIANCE WITH THE APPLICABLE REQUIREMENTS: REPLACEMENT OF THE FACTORY INSTALLED TIRES WITH NEW EXTRA LOAD TIRES." IT ALSO SAYS "...THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE TIRES AND LABEL/PLACARD NOTED ABOVE AT NO CHARGE TO YOU." I SPENT OVER 90 MINUTES AT THE DEALER AND 20 MINUTES ON THE PHONE WITH TOYOTA. THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THEIR RECALL BECAUSE THE HITCH ON THE CAR WAS AN AFTER-MARKET HITCH AND NOT INSTALLED BY TOYOTA. I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE NOT HONORING THEIR RECALL AND THEIR OFFER TO REPLACE THE TIRES SIMPLY BECAUSE THE HITCH WAS NOT PURCHASED THROUGH TOYOTA. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN THE VAN WITH 7 ELDERLY PEOPLE IT CAUGHT ON FIRE AND SMOKE CAME INTO THE CABIN VIA A/C VENTS. I PULLED OVER AND ALL 7 OF US SCRAMBLED TO GET OUT OF THE VAN. FIRE WAS POURING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH AND BLACK SMOKE OUT OF THE HOOD. WITHIN ABOUT 20 SECONDS AFTER WE GOT OUT, THE VAN WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FIRE. THE VAN WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED AND ONLY THE METAL FRAME WAS LEFT. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR HIRED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY BELIEVES THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ECM. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS AT ALL EXCEPT THE SMOKE IN THE CABIN AND FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WE WERE EXTREMELY LUCKY TO GET OUT ALIVE AS WE ARE ALL OVER 75 YRS OLD AND NOT ALL OF US IN GREAT HEALTH. THE VAN IS A TOTAL LOSS AND MY TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE EVENT AND A CLAIM NUMBER ASSIGNED TO US. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE SPREAD TO THE FUEL TANK AND FLAMES QUICKLY ENGULFED THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SECURITY SYSTEM WOULD SPORADICALLY SOUND PRIOR TO THE FIRE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED TOO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. MY SECOND COMPLAINT TO NHTSA - PREVIOUS NHTSA # 10470305 THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IN 2 YEARS I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES WHEN I APPLY BRAKES, THE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND VEHICLE DOESN'T STOP. I HAVE REQUESTED MY MONEY BACK OR REPLACED MY CURRENT SIENNA WITH A NEW ONE AS I HAVE PREVIOUSLY ASKED FOR WHEN IT HAPPENED IN MAY OF 2011 AFTER DRIVING 600 MILES ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE AND AT AROUND 20000 MILES IN 2012 WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MY KIDS, MY FAMILY, MYSELF AND OTHERS AROUND ME WHEN I AM DRIVING. TOYOTA KNOWS THEY ARE AT FAULT YET THEY WANT ME TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.TOYOTA REFUSES TO HELP, THEY WANT TO BE GIVEN CHANCES TO FIX IT AS THEY'VE TRIED TWICE ALREADY SEE PREVIOUS COMPLAINT - I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE IN MAY OF 2011 FROM JAY WOLFE TOYOTA IN KANSAS CITY MO. AFTER 1000 MILES WITHIN LESS THAN A MONTH, STARTED HAVING BRAKE PROBLEMS. WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKE, IT WAS GLIDING, TAKING THE PADDLE TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE EVEN AT SLOW SPEEDS. I WAS ENROUTE TO OMAHA FOR THE WEEKEND WITH MY FAMILY AND KIDS WHEN I STARTED HAVING THE BRAKE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOOK 4 DAYS TO CHECK AND DETERMINE IT WAS AIR IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I AM SURE THERE WAS MORE TO IT BUT THAT IS ALL THEY SAID AND FIXED. ONE PERSON FROM CORPORATE WAS THERE AND TOLD US AND GUARANTEED THAT WE SHOULD NEVER SEE THIS PROBLEM AGAIN. NOW LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER AT 26000 MILES STARTED HAVING SAME ISSUES WITH BRAKE. NOW THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE MAY BE A LEAK IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM THAT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN LOOK AT BEFORE. I ADVISED THEM DUE TO SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND MY KIDS AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD, I AM NOT TAKING THIS VEHICLE BACK AND I REQUESTED TO BE REPLACED WITH ANOTHER NEW VEHICLE SINCE THEY ARE AT FAULT BY SELLING ME A VEHICLE WITH A BRAKE PROBLEM AND BY NOT FIXING IT RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 13V123000 (EQUIPMENT) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DID NOT CONTAIN A FACTORY TRAILER HITCH, THEN THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HE HAD TO CHANGE THE RIM AND WHEEL SIZE IN ORDER TO BECOME COMPLAINT AND FALL UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE GLASS IN THE SUNROOF EXPLODED WITH A LOUD BANG. IN ADDITION, GLASS FRAGMENTS FELL INTO THE SUNROOF AREA BUT DID NOT ENTER THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
SIENNA PARKED INSIDE GARAGE. GARAGE DOOR WAS OPEN. I SLAMMED THE TRUNK DOOR TO CLOSE IT. MY 10 YEAR OLD SON COMPLAINED WHY I SLAMMED DOOR; I COULD HAVE CLOSED IT GENTLY. I TOLD HIM BECAUSE SOMETIMES THE TRUNK DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS TO HAVE CLOSED. WE GOT IN THE SIENNA. I STARTED ENGINE. GARAGE DOOR STILL OPEN. I REVERSED THE CAR. THEN HEARD SMALL NOISE FROM THE BACK. THEN I SAW THE TRUNK DOOR WAS UP AND OPEN IN UP POSITION. I PARKED THE CAR, WENT BACK. THE SIENNA TAG PLATE WAS BROKEN HALF IN THE MIDDLE, APPARENTLY HITTING THE GARAGE DOOR. I CLOSED THE DOOR DOWN. SLOWLY BACKED THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE. THEN MY WIFE AND I HAD TO FORCE THE GARAGE TO CLOSE BECAUSE THE CAR'S BACKDOOR KNOCKED ONE OF ITS GLIDING WHEELS OFF TRACK. WE HAD TO FORCE IT BACK IN. THE DOOR OPENER WAS OFF THE TRACK AS WELL. ONE DAY LATER AFTER TRYING SEVERAL TIMES, THE DOOR WAS BACK WORKING AGAIN. WE ARE TESTING THE DOOR NOW. THE CAR DRIVES FINE. ~10 DAYS I DUMPED BOOKS OFF LIBRARY AND CLOSED THE TRUNK DOOR. AFTER GOING THROUGH A ROUNDABOUT FOR 0.7 MILE, THE SIGNAL FLASHED INDICATING THE TRUNK DOOR WAS LOOSE. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO CLOSE IT. MY WIFE ALSO SAID SEVERAL TIMES NOW SHE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM: THE DOOR WENT LOOSE AND THEN SIGNALED US IT WAS LOOSE MINUTES OR MILES AFTER WE STARTED THE ENGINE AND LEFT THE PARKING SLOT. *TR
A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, WE RECEIVED AN URGENT SAFETY RECALL LETTER FROM TOYOTA REGARDING THE TYPE OF TIRES THAT ARE ON OUR 2011 SIENNA. WHEN WE ORDERED THE VEHICLE IN JUNE OF 2010, IT WAS WITH FULL UNDERSTANDING THAT WE HAD TO HAVE A VEHICLE WITH A HITCH, AS MY HUSBAND HAS A MOTORIZED WHEELCHAIR THAT MUST BE PLACED ON A RACK BEHIND OUR VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP IN SIOUX CITY, IOWA (RICK COLLINS) STATED THAT WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM. WHEN THE VEHICLE ARRIVED HERE IN SIOUX CITY FROM THE MANUFACTURER, WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS NEW MODEL OF SIENNA DID NOT HAVE A HITCH ON IT YET, AS IT HAD NOT FINISHED BEING DESIGNED, BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAD ONE AND WOULD PUT IT ON BEFORE WE TOOK IT. NOW WE GOT THE RECALL LETTER STATING THAT THE DOOR PLACARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN THE VEHICLE, PLUS WE EITHER HAD TO TAKE OFF THE HITCH OR THE DEALER MUST CHANGE OUT THE TIRES TO EXTRA LOAD TIRES AT NO CHARGE TO US. SINCE WE CANNOT GO WITHOUT THE HITCH, MY HUSBAND TOLD THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY THEN NEEDED TO PUT NEW TIRES ON OUR CAR AT THE DEALERS EXPENSE. THEY REFUSE TO DO THAT STATING THAT THE HITCH IS AFTER MARKET. BUT IT IS NOT AFTER MARKET. RICK COLLINS TOYOTA INSTALLED THE HITCH BEFORE THE CAR WAS EVER IN OUR HANDS. THEY DEFINITELY KNEW THAT WE WOULD NOT AND COULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED A VEHICLE THAT DID NOT HAVE A HITCH. NOW WE ARE AFRAID TO TAKE THE VEHICLE OUT OF TOWN KNOWING ABOUT THE SAFETY CONCERNS. THE POWER SLIDING DOORS FAILED ON THE VEHICLE AND WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE DOOR STARTED SLIDING OPEN. MY KIDS WERE SAFELY FASTENED IN THEIR SEATBELTS BUT THE LATCH AND SAFETY LATCHES BOTH FAILED AND THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT OR INJURY. THE DEALER SAID THE LATCHES CORRODED WHICH CAUSE THE FAILURE AND PROPER LUBRICATION COULD HAVE PREVENTED THE DEFECT BUT I CAN'T FIND THAT ANYWHERE IN THE SERVICE MANUAL AND I ASKED THE DEALER TO SHOW ME THAT ON THEIR LIST OF CHECKS AND HE DID NOT HAVE ANY DOCUMENTATION THAT THEY CHECK THAT. I HAVE HEARD THAT MANY OF THESE LATCHES FAIL AND NEED TO BE REPLACED BUT TOYOTA DOESN'T SEEM TO THINK IT IS AN ISSUE. *TR

THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR BUMPER OF A SEMI-TRUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
THE POWERED FOLD UP RAMP AND MOTOR LOCKED UP COMPLETELY BLOCKING WHEEL CHAIR EXIT AND ENTRY ACCESS IN THE TOYOTA SIENNA 2011 BRAUN ABILITY RAMPVAN. THE ALLEGED MANUAL RAMP OPERATION FUNCTION FAILED TO WORK TRAPPING THE WHEEL CHAIR OCCUPANT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS DANGEROUS DESIGN HAS BEEN MADE SINCE 2011 AND CONTINUES TO BE MADE INTO 2013. BRAUN HAS RELEASED ANOTHER IN-FLLOOR RAMP OPTION THIS YEAR WHICH IS A MUCH SAFER DESIGN THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO BLOCK DOOR ACCESS EVEN IF IT MALFUNCTIONS. BRAUNABILITY NEEDS TO RECALL THIS DESIGN AND MAKE A TRUE MANUAL RELEASE THAT DISCONNECTS FROM THE MOTOR INCASE OF FAILURE OR LOCKUP. MY SON IS SEVERELY DISABLED AND HAS ALOT OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT. THE JUMP SEAT BOLTED TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FLOOR BLOCKED ENTRY AND EXIT CLEARANCE FOR A WHEEL CHAIR ON THE OTHER SIDE AS A POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVE EMERGENCY EXIT. WE HAD TO LITERALLY PULL HIM OUT OF HIS WHEEL CHAIR AND DISCONNECT HIS EQUIPMENT - ALL VERY DIFFICULT IN THE TIGHT SPACE AND VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DEFECT AND SHOULD BE ADDRESS IMMEDIATELY. THE VAN WAS TOWED AND IN THE SHOP FOR 3+ WEEKS TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND REPLACE THE EQUIPMENT. *TR
I HAVE A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA THAT I PURCHASED NEW IN NOVEMBER 2010. IT CAME WITH FIRESTONE FR710 P235/60R17 TIRES. I HAVE 29900 MILES ON THE VAN AND THE TIRES ALREADY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE OUTER TREAD IS GONE. THE TIRES ARE SO BAD THAT I NEARLY HAD A WRECK DURING A RECENT RAIN AFTER HYDROPLANING ACROSS A LANE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED APPROX EVERY 5000 MILES WITH THE TOYOTA 24 MONTH AUTO CARE PLAN. I CALLED TOYOTA WHO REFERRED ME TO FIRESTONE WITH "GOOD LUCK" (APPARENTLY THEY HAVE NOT HAD MUCH SUCCESS IN DEALING WITH FIRESTONE ON THIS TYPE OF ISSUE). I CALLED FIRESTONE AND THE REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED ME THAT EVEN THOUGH THESE TIRES ARE TYPICALLY ADVERTISED WITH A 65,000 MILE WARRANTY, BECAUSE THEY ARE "ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES," THERE IS NO WARRANTY. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT BECAUSE THESE ARE "ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES" THEY ARE ONLY EXPECTED TO PERFORM 20000-30000 MILES BEFORE NEEDING REPLACEMENT. I HAVE NEVER HAD A NEW VEHICLE THAT NEEDED THE TIRES REPLACED AFTER 30000 MILES. THE FIRESTONE REPRESENTATIVE DID OFFER A 25% DISCOUNT ON NEW TIRES, HOWEVER I AM A LITTLE HESITANT AT BUYING ANOTHER SET OF FIRESTONE TIRES BECAUSE I DO NOT FEEL LIKE THEY ARE STANDING BESIDE THE QUALITY OF THEIR PRODUCT. I ALSO DO NOT THINK THEY SHOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED THIS SOON. THE REAR HATCH STRUTS BLEW CAUSING THE REAR HATCH TO CLOSE AUTOMATICALLY AND FORCIBLY. LUCKILY, ONLY MY HUSBAND WAS UNDER THE HATCH AT THE TIME AND COULD STOP IT FROM HURTING SOMEONE. IT WOULD HAVE SERIOUSLY INJURED ONE OF OUR CHILDREN IF THEY WERE UNDER THE HATCH. IT HAPPENED VERY SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL ON OLDER SIENNA VANS TO FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THE DESIGN CHANGE DOES NOT SEEM TO MITIGATE AGAINST THE FAILURE. TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, (55 MPH) WHEN THE VSC FAILURE MESSAGE APPEARED ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND APOSTROPHE INSIDE A TRIANGLE ERROR/ WARNING LIGHT. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AS A CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AGO. MILEAGE IS LESS THAN 36000. *TR
2011 TOYOTA VAN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT-THE SEAT BECAME STUCK AND WOULD NOT MOVE DURING ANY ATTEMPT TO ADJUST IT WITH THE HANDLE. NO DEBRIS OR OBSTRUCTION WAS IN THE SEAT TRACK AFTER MULTIPLE CHECKS. AFTER BEING SERVICE BY TOYOTA AND FIRST BEING TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT IT WAS DEBRIS IN TRACK AND MY REQUESTING TO HAVE THE DEBRIS THAT WAS IN THE TRACK, HE THEN STATED THAT HE THREW IT OUT, I ASKED HIM IF WE COULD INSPECT THE GARBAGE FOR THE 'ITEMS' SO I COULD HAVE IT, HE THEN STATED THAT 'SPRING ALSO CAME OFF THE SEAT' WHICH HE DID NOT TELL ME DURING OUR PREVIOUS CONVERSATION. HE NEVER RETRIEVED THE ITEMS THAT HE STATED WERE STUCK IN THE SEAT TRACK AND I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO SEARCH THE GARBAGE FOR THE ITEMS. I EXPERIENCE BATTERY DRAIN THAT WILL EMPTY MY BATTERY IF I COMPLETELY SHUT OFF THE VAN, REMOVE THE KEYS, AND REMAIN IN THE VAN FOR LONGER THAN 10 MINUTES. THIS OCCURS AFTER TESTING THE ALTERNATOR AND REPLACING THE BATTERY. IT HAPPENED THE MONTH AFTER I PURCHASED THE VAN AT JUST ONE YEAR OLD. I HAVE AT THE SAME TIME EXPERIENCED THE FRONT HEADLIGHT BURNING OUT AND/OR GOING OUT REPEATEDLY. I BELIEVE THERE IS SOMETHING INNATELY CAUSING BATTERY DRAIN HAVING TO DO WITH THE HEADLIGHT OR THE PRESSURE SENSOR OF THE SEAT THAT THE PASSENGER SITS IN.
WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY 2011. IT CAME WITH FREE TOYOTA MAINTENANCE FOR THE FIRST 2 YEARS AND HAS BEEN BROUGHT IN FOR EVERY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, MOST RECENTLY THE 25,000 MILE SERVICE AT 26,000, SO THE TIRES HAVE REGULARLY BEEN ROTATED AND INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP. TWO YEARS AND LESS THAN 27,000 MILES AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT IT WAS NOT HANDLING WELL IN SNOW DESPITE BEING AN AWD. TO OUR SURPRISE, THE TIRES WERE WORN. I BROUGHT IT TO A TIRE SHOP HOPING FOR JUST AN ALIGNMENT AND WERE TOLD THE TIRES WERE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ON. THEREFORE, I JUST HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES AHEAD OF SCHEDULE. VERY DANGEROUS AS MOST PEOPLE DON'T EVEN CONSIDER THE NEED FOR NEW TIRES AT THIS POINT IN THEIR VEHICLE OWNERSHIP. ON DEC.5, 2012 WE WERE PICKING UP A GRANDCHILD AT AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. WE WERE IN A LINE OF CARS TO EXIT THE PARKING LOT. A CAR WAS PULLING INTO THE LINE AHEAD OF US. WE TRIED TO STOP TO LET HER IN, BUT THERE WERE NO BRAKES. THERE WAS PLENTY OF SPACE AND TIME TO STOP. WE STOPPED BY HITTING HER CAR. TOLD DURING MY SERVICE AT 15000K BY TOYOTA TECHNICIAN THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES ON MY 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. I ASKED HOW WAS IT POSSIBLE A BRAND NEW LEASED VEHICLE WITH 15000K MILES WOULD NEED NEW TIRES AND I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD MAKE IT TO 20000K BUT NEED NEW ONES. THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT TELL ME WHY THE TIRES WERE FAILING. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE AND SPEAKING WITH OTHER TOYOTA SIENNA OWNERS IT APPEARS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES PLACED ON SIENNA MINIVANS. IT ALSO APPEARS THAT TOYOTA IS BLAMING THE TIRE COMPANY AND THE TIRE COMPANY IS BLAMING TOYOTA. OF COURSE THE POOR CONSUMER GETS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE. SHE WAS STANDING IN THE THIRD ROW OF SEATS FACING THE BACK WINDOW. SHE WASN'T MOVING AND FOR ONE AWFUL MOMENT I THOUGHT SHE WAS DEAD. I OPENED THE BACK HATCH TO FIND HER SUSPENDED BETWEEN TWO SEAT BELTS WRAPPED AROUND HER NECK. LUCKILY, HER FEET WERE STILL TOUCHING THE SEAT, WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN ENOUGH TO KEEP THE BELTS FROM COMPLETELY CUTTING OFF HER BREATHING. AS MY FRIEND AND I DESPERATELY TRIED TO UNTANGLE THE BELTS FROM AROUND HER NECK THEY GOT TIGHTER AND TIGHTER. I TRIED TO FIND A KEY OR ANYTHING SHARP TO UNHOOK THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT FROM ITS LATCH SO WE COULD UNWIND IT FROM AROUND HER NECK (I HAD DROPPED MY KEYS DURING THE INITIAL FRANTIC MOMENTS WHEN I CLIMBED IN THE HATCH TO TRY AND GET HER OUT). AS WE WORKED TO FREE HER, THE BELTS CONTINUED TO GET TIGHTER. MY FRIEND RAN TO A NEARBY SCHOOL TO GET SCISSORS. THE NEXT FEW MOMENTS WERE HORRIBLE. I WAS WATCHING MY DAUGHTER STRANGLE TO DEATH. I FRANTICALLY TRIED TO FIND MY KEYS OR ANY SHARP OBJECT TO RELEASE THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT FROM ITS ANCHOR. MY DAUGHTER WAS TURNING PURPLE AND IT WAS CLEAR THE SITUATION WAS DETERIORATING QUICKLY. I FINALLY GRABBED THE KEYS FROM MY FRIEND?S IGNITION AND REACHED OVER THE BACK SEAT TO UNHOOK THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT. I FELT A BRIEF MOMENT OF RELIEF AS I EXPECTED THAT TO RELEASE THE PRESSURE AROUND HER NECK, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. THE SEAT BELTS WERE SO TIGHT AT THAT POINT I COULDN?T UNTHREAD THE MIDDLE SEAT BELT FROM AROUND HER NECK. MY FRIEND ARRIVED WITH SCISSORS AND I CUT THE BELT. THE SEAT BELT STILL DIDN?T RELEASE AT THAT POINT, BUT WE WERE ABLE TO UNTANGLE AND LOOSEN THE BELTS AND PULL MY DAUGHTER FROM THE CAR. 9/1/12 I WAS DRIVING ALONG AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF APROX. 55-60 MPH WHEN I DECIDED TO GO INTO A SHOPPING CENTER. I SLOWED MY CAR DOWN AND MADE A RIGHT TURN TO ENTER A SHOPPING CENTER. I AGAIN MOVED THE CAR OUT OF GEAR AND THE ENGINE CAME TO NORMAL. 9/9/12 I WAS IN A SHOPPING CENTER WAITING FOR MY WIFE TO COME OUT AND I HAD TO MOVE MY CAR TO LET SOMEONE ELSE GET OUT A PARKING SPACE WHEN MY CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AT THE TIME THIS OCCURRED AND AS MUCH PRESSURE I PUT ON THE BRAKE WAS NOT ENOUGH TO STOP THE CAR. THE CAR STILL HAD ENOUGH POWER TO GO FORWARD EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I FEAR FOR MY LIFE AND ANY PEOPLE THAT ARE IN MY CAR, LET ALONE OUTSIDE OF MY CAR. TOYOTA CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, I'VE TAKEN IT TO THEM TWICE. THEY (TOYOTA) WILL NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME. PLEASE HELP. *TR
MY 12 YEAR OLD SON REACHED BACK FOR THE SEAT BELT FOR THE MIDDLE ROW SEAT BEHIND THE PASSENGER WHILE THE AUTOMATIC DOOR WAS CLOSING. HIS HAND BECAME TRAPPED BETWEEN THE DOOR AND FRAME AS THE AUTOMATIC DOOR SHUT. THE DOOR DID NOT RELEASE AUTOMATICALLY AND ONLY RELEASED WHEN HE USED HIS OTHER HAND TO PUSH THE "DOOR OPEN" BUTTON. UNFORTUNATELY HE SUFFERED A FRACTURE OF HIS 4TH RIGHT METACARPAL. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE DOOR MECHANISM AND THE SEAT BELT, AND ALSO ABOUT THE LACK OF A SAFETY MECHANISM FOR AUTOMATIC SENSING/RELEASE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOOK THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
WE WERE INFOMED BY TOYOTA SERVICE THAT THE TIRES ARE BALDING AND NEED REPLACEMENT. THEY INFORMED US THAT THIS IS A TIRE ISSUE. WE CONTACTED FIRESTONE, AND THEY INFORMED US THAT THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE SIENNA PREMATURELY WEARING OUT TIRES DUE TO ALIGNMENT ISSUES WITH THE DESIGN OF THE SIENNA. FIRESTONE AGREED TO PAY FOR HALF THE COST OF NEW TIRES. TOYOTA ON THE HAND HAS GIVEN US THE RUN AROUND AND IS NOT TAKING OWNERSHIP. WE HAVE FOUND THAT THROUGH BLOGS THERE ARE CUSTOMERS THAT ARE REPLACING TIRES AFTER LESS THAN A YEAR OF USE (<15K MILES). WE HAVE THE ENTIRE THREAD OF CONVERSATIONS AND MAINTENANCE RECORDS THAT SHOW THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF THE VECHICLE'S ALIGNMENT AS VERIFIED BY TOYOTA SERVICE AND OTHER REPAIR SHOPS. THIS IS THE 5TH NEW CAR WE HAVE OWNED, AND TIRES LAST AT LEAST 40K MILES. TOYOTA SHOULD OWN UP TO THIS AND INFORM CUSTOMERS THAT THEY WILL NEED TO REPLACE TIRES EVERY 15K MILES! *TR

THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 13,000.
TOLD BY TOYOTA DEALER AT 15000K THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE TIRES ON MY 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN. I DO NOT ABUSE MY VEHICLE AND NEVER HAD A NEW VEHICLE THAT NEEDED NEW TIRES AT 15000K. *TR
THE OPENING SEQUENCE OF POWER SLIDING DOORS ON BOTH SIDES OF THIS VEHICLE IS OUT-OF-SEQUENCE WHEN OPENED WITH THE DOOR HANDLE. WHEN USING DOOR HANDLE, THERE IS A LOUND NOISE WHEN DOOR FIRST OPEN, IT CAUSED BY THE MECHANICAL LATCH WERE NOT COMPLETLY OPEN BEFORE THE DOOR WAS PULLED BY DORR'S MOTOR. THIS PROLONGES "JERK" COULD EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE LATCH TO BREAK OR DEFECTED TO THE POINT IT CAN NOT FULLY LATCHED ON AND MAY CAUSE DOOR TO OPEN WHILE DRIVING. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT DETECTED IF DOOR OPENING USING REMOTE CONTROL OR INSIDE VEHICLE BUTTONS. *TT
I WAS STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON HIGHWAY 20 IN NICEVILLE, FL. I HAD MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN I FELT THE VEHICLE ATTEMPT TO SURGE FORWARD AND I COULD HEARD THE ENGINE REV. I LOOKED AT THE TACHOMETER AND NOTICED THE ENGINE WAS AT 2000 RPM INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL IDLE OF APPROX 800 RPM. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I DROVE AWAY AND THE VEHICLE DROVE NORMALLY. I DID NOT HAVE ANOTHER INCIDENT DRIVING HOME EVEN WHEN I STOPPED AT OTHER TRAFFIC LIGHTS. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THIS UN-COMMANDED ACCELERATION - THE OTHER TOOK PLACE LAST YEAR. *JB

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE OVER 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND WAS TEST DRIVEN. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO RECREATE THE FAILURE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AFTER DRIVEN FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES AND PARKED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. IT ONLY HAD ABOUT 6,100 MILES AND PURCHASED NEW 9 MONTHS AGO. THE FIRE CAUSED TOTAL LOSS TO THE VEHICLE AND EVERYTHING INSIDE INCLUDING THE CHILD SEATS AND STROLLER WAS PERMANENTLY DAMAGED BY HEAT AND SMOKE. ACCORDING TO THE INCIDENT REPORT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT, IT APPEARS THAT THE FIRE IGNITED AT THE UPPER LEFT CORNER (PASSENGER SIDE) OF THE ENGINE BAY. IN MAY OF 2011 I PURCHASED A TOYOTA SIENNA 8 PASSENGER THAT HAS BEEN RECLASSIFIED IN NOV 2011 FROM 1550 LB CARGO AND PASSENGER CAPACITY.TO 1325 THAT RENDERS IT NON COMPATIBLE, FOR WHICH I HAD BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FOR. THEREFORE IT HAS CAUSED AND RENDERS THIS WHAT WAS 8 PASSENGER AND VALUE TO DECREASE. THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED BY TOYOTA FURTHER STATE THAT: "THE REMEDY FOR YOUR VEHICLE WILL BE AVAILABLE AFTER MAY 2012. WE WILL SEND YOU ANOTHER NOTICE WHEN IT IS READY." I CALLED TOYOTA IN JUNE OF 2012 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REMEDY WAS NOT YET READY AND I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN IT WAS.
