VEHICLE WOULD EXPECTEDLY SLOW DOWN WHEN YOU ACCELERATE. THE LOSS OF POWER WOULD LAST BETWEEN 2 TO 7 SECONDS. I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER SINCE THE 15K-MILE SERVICE. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. NONETHELESS, THE ISSUE IS STILL OCCURRING ON A WEEKLY BASIS. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS HAZARD. AFFECTED VEHICLE COULD GET REAR ENDED AS IT ACCELERATE FROM STOP LIGHTS WHEN IT SUDDENLY SLOWS DOWN. WHAT'S WORSE? IMAGINE YOUR FAMILY IN THE CAR WHEN YOU WANT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, YOU PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE, BUT IT SLOWS DOWN BEFORE YOU CAN CLEAR THE ON COMING TRAFFIC. I HOPE TOYOTA IS LISTENING TO THIS!!! THIS DEFECT COULD HAVE VERY DIRE RESULTS. I HAVE FOUND SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IN VARIOUS FORUMS ONLINE. I AM CERTAIN MORE PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS AND DON'T KNOW WHERE TO REPORT IT. NHTSA, PLEASE REQUEST SIMILAR COMPLAIN DATA FROM TOYOTA DEALERS ABOUT THIS VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT. *TR
MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER GOT HER LEG CAUGHT IN THE BACK PART OF THE SLIDING DOOR OF A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. SHE WAS INSIDE THE CAR. THE DOOR WAS OPENED. HER LEG FELL INTO THE SPACE WHILE THE DOOR WAS OPENING. THE DOOR OPENED AS FAR AS IT COULD AND CONSTRICTED HER LEG. HER LEG WAS SO TIGHTLY CONSTRICTED WE COULD NOT REPOSITION HER BODY TO OPEN THE DOOR. AVERILL PARK FIRE DEPT AND SAND LAKE AMBULANCE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE. SHE WAS TRAPPED(SCREAMING) FOR 20 -25 MINUTES. HER LEG WAS COLD AND TURNING BLUE BEFORE IT WAS REMOVED. WE WENT TO THE HOSPITAL CONCERNED FOR INTERNAL BLEEDING, BROKEN LEG, AND OTHER COMPLICATIONS. SHE IS DOING FINE BUT I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE DESIGN OF THE DOOR. I'VE LOOKED AT OTHER MINIVANS (EVEN THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL BUT DIFFERENT YEAR) AND THEY DON'T HAVE THE GAP IN THE BACK PART OF THE DOOR LIKE THE 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. UPDATED IVOQ 07/27/11 *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH INTO THE RESIDENTS DRIVEWAY WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED WITH THE RPMS RAPIDLY INCREASING. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND CRASHED INTO THE STONE STRUCTURE OF THE GARAGE. THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SUFFERED A MINOR INJURY TO THE SHOULDER. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FENDER WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,400.
WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES AROUND 60 MPH I FELT THAT THE FRONT WHEELS WAS SHAKEN, VIBRATES AND FELT ROUGH AT THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE PEDAL. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE ROTORS WERE RUSTY AND WARP BECAUSE THE HEAT. THEY CUT THE ROTORS. NO CHARGE. NOW, I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH 23000 MILES. SAME EXCUSE. THE ROTORS WERE RUSTY AND WARP AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE TO BE CUT AND TO REPLACE THE PADS. ALSO, THEY SAID THAT THE BRAKE FLUID NEEDED TO BE CHANGE. $559.00 WAS THE CHARGE. I HAD NO CHOICE. MY LIFE DEPENDS ON THE BRAKE. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THERE IS A FACTORY DEFECT WITH THESE ROTORS AND THE BRAKES. I HAD SO MANY CARS IN MY LIFE AND I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM OF ROTORS BEEN WARP BECAUSE OVERHEATING. MILLIONS OF CARS RUNS EVERY DAY AT 65 MPH AND I DON'T HEAR THAT EVERY 5,000 MILES THEY HAVE TO CUT THE ROTORS BECAUSE OVERHEATING. I BELIEVE THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECTS AND THAT THEY SHOULD REPLACE THE ROTORS AT NO COST TO ME. PLEASE, I NEED TO KNOW WHERE I CAN FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA, SINCE THE DEALER IS TRYING TO RIP ME OFF. *TR
SIDE POWER DOOR DOES NOT OPEN. HANDLE IS USED TO OPEN DOOR DURING NORMAL OPERATION. POWER SLIDER OPENS ABOUT 6 INCHES AND THEN STICKS. A ALARM SOUNDS. POWER SLIDE MOTOR STOPS DOOR FROM OPENING. DOOR JUMPS BACK AND FORTH AND WILL NOT OPEN REGARDLESS OF AMOUNT OF FORCE USED. DOOR WILL CLOSE IF PUSHED SHUT. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND HAS NOT BEEN DEALT WITH BY DEALER WHICH HAS BEEN COMPLAINED ABOUT AND DOCUMENTED THROUGHOUT THE LAST YEAR. DEALER UNABLE TO REPEAT ISSUE. DEALER HAS ACCUSED OWNER OF NOT USING HANDLE CORRECTLY. IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION THIS FAILURE COULD RESULT IN PASSENGERS BEING TRAPPED IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT BECAUSE OF THIS HAZARD. THIS PROBLEM IS DOCUMENTED BY OTHER OWNERS ON TOYOTA FORUMS AND OTHER NHTSA SAFETY COMPLAINTS. *TR
DRIVER SIDE POWER DOOR IS NOT OPENING ON ITS OWN. WITH VERY FEW MILES THE DOOR REFUSED TO OPEN AND CLOSE ON ITS OWN POWER. AS TIME PROGRESSED THE DOOR IS NOW NOT FUNCTIONAL IN POWER MODE. THE VAN CURRENTLY HAS 20000 MILES. DEALER BLAMED CUSTOMER FOR PROBLEM AS THE CAR WAS "TOO DUSTY". DEALER IS GOING TO ATTEMPT TO FIX UNDER WARRANTY BUT WARNED CUSTOMER IF THE VAN IS CONTINUALLY DRIVEN ON GRAVEL ROADS THAT THE CUSTOMER WILL NEED TO WASH THE CAR AFTER EVERY DUSTY TRIP TO ENSURE THE DOORS DO NOT FAIL AGAIN. THE PASSENGER POWER DOOR IS NOW STARTING TO FAIL. IT WAS NEVER DISCLOSED TO CUSTOMER THAT CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN ON GRAVEL OR DUSTY ROADS. THE CUSTOMER MUST DRIVE ON GRAVEL ROADS DAILY SO THE VAN IS NOW ALL BUT USELESS FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE. ADDITIONALLY THE LACK OF THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR TO OPEN IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR REAR SEAT PASSENGERS. IF THE PASSENGER DOOR WERE TO BECOME DAMAGED IN AN ACCIDENT THE REAR OCCUPANTS WOULD BE UNABLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE VEHICLE. *KB
ELECTRICAL FAILURE THE CLOCK LOSES TIME WHEN YOU TURN OFF ENGINE THEN WHEN YOU START ENGINE IT WILL GIVE YOU WARNING TO CHECK VSC , SRS AIRBAG IS OFF , RADIO IS OFF TOO. THE AUTIMATIC LOCK IS NOT FUNCTIONING WE HAVE TO LOCK DOORS MANUALLY. THIS IS FRUSTRATING BECAUSE WE HAVE A BRAND NEW CAR!!! *TR
FAILURE OF DRIVER'S CABIN LAMP OVERRIDE SWITCH TO EXTINGUISH CABIN READING LIGHTS OBSCURED DRIVER'S VISION AT NIGHT DURING HIGH-SPEED MERGE MANEUVER: I WAS ATTEMPTING A HIGH-SPEED HIGHWAY MERGE, AT NIGHT, ENTERING ROUTE 29 FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, WHEN MY THREE-YEAR-OLD SON DISCOVERED THAT HE WAS NOW TALL ENOUGH TO OPERATE HIS OVERHEAD PERSONAL READING LIGHT. MY VISION OF MERGING TRAFFIC TO THE RIGHT WAS SUDDENLY OBSCURED BY THE UNEXPECTED OPERATION OF THE CABIN READING LAMP, AND THE SITUATION WAS COMPOUNDED BY MY INABILITY TO QUICKLY OVERRIDE THE LAMP FROM THE DRIVER'S POSITION, IN THE MANNER AS DIRECTED ON PAGE 526 OF THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THE READING LIGHT ABOVE MY SON'S HEAD STAYED ON. ACCORDING TO THE SIENNA 2011 OWNER'S MANUAL ON PAGE 526, THE DOOR LIGHT BUTTON, ABOVE THE DRIVER'S HEAD, ALSO SERVES AS AN OVERRIDE FOR ALL THE PERSONAL CABIN READING LIGHTS WHEN THE "DOOR" FUNCTION IS DISABLED: PAGE 526: "REAR ON/OFF: REAR PERSONAL/INTERIOR LIGHTS TURN ON [UPON ACTIVATION OF THE ILLUSTRATED INDIVIDUAL READING LAMP BUTTONS AT EACH SEATING POSITION] WHEN THE PERSONAL/INTERIOR MAIN SWITCH IS IN DOOR POSITION." THE DUAL FUNCTIONALITY OF THE DOOR LIGHT BUTTON IS CONFIRMED; ON PAGE 525 OF THE MANUAL, THE OTHER WELL-KNOWN PURPOSE OF THE DOOR BUTTON IS SEPARATELY AND INDEPENDENTLY DESCRIBED TO ACTIVATE AUTOMATIC CABIN ILLUMINATION WHEN ENTERING/EXITING THE VEHICLE: PAGE 525: "DOOR POSITION: THE PERSONAL/INTERIOR LIGHTS AND REAR INTERIOR LIGHT COME ON WHEN A DOOR IS OPENED. THEY TURN OFF WHEN THE DOORS ARE CLOSED." THEREFORE, THE REFERENCE TO THE DOOR BUTTON ON PAGE 526 IS FOR THE SEPARATE OVERRIDE FEATURE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION. I RECOMMEND TOYOTA RECALL THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, TO CORRECT THE FUNCTIONING OF THE CABIN LAMP OVERRIDE SWITCH AS THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL SAFETY FEATURE OF THE VEHICLE FOR NIGHTTIME DRIVING WITH PASSENGERS.
WE HAVE A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE THAT HAS ACCELERATION ISSUES. WHILE IN CRUISE CONTROL, WHEN THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO ACCELERATE TO REGAIN SPEED OR UP A SLOPE, THE ENGINE RACES TO 5000-5500 RPM BEFORE SPEEDING UP. ALSO, ON SOME LEFT TURNS THE ENGINE NEARLY DIES. THE DEALER SAYS THE ENGINE RACING PROBLEM IS NORMAL AND PART OF THE ENGINEERING. BIG PROBLEM. *TR
THE VEHICLE ENGINE STALLS. THIS OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING TURNS. I HAD TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT COME OFF FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES WHEN THE ENGINE AND LIGHTS HAVE BEEN SWITCHED OFF. IT IS POSSIBLE TO START THE CAR WITH THE PUSH BUTTON WITHOUT PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL SOMETIMES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE REAR LIFT GATE OPEN; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT PRESSED THE BUTTON TO CLOSE THE LIFT GATE AND SHE ATTEMPTED TO TAKE AN ITEM FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND NEARLY SUSTAINED AN INJURY WHEN THE LIFT GATE CONTINUED TO CLOSE. THE CONTACT THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE AN AUTOMATIC OVERRIDE SYSTEM IN PLACE TO STOP THE LIFT GATE FROM CLOSING IF AN OBJECT WAS OBSTRUCTING ITS PATH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH A FEATURE TO AUTOMATICALLY STOP THE DOOR FROM CLOSING. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 6,400. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VISIBILITY OF THE HEADLIGHTS WAS NOT PROJECTING FAR ENOUGH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER MADE SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO THE HEADLIGHTS BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA LE POWER SLIDING DOORS HAVE JAMMED MULTIPLE TIMES. HAS HAPPENED 4-5 TIMES NOW WITH ONLY 285 MILES ON IT. THIS IS POTENTIALLY A VERY SERIOUS MALFUNCTION THAT COULD COST A LIFE. ALL PASSENGERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO EVACUATE IF NEEDED. CALLED TOYOTA BUT THEY SAY THEY HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANY COMPLAINTS? WILL TAKE IT IN AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY. *TR
THIRD ROW SEAT DOES NOT LATCH PROPERLY, DOESN'T STAY FIRMLY ATTACHED TO THE FLOOR. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALER THREE TIMES AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. INDOOR NOISE IS PRETTY HIGH TOO, GRINDING , SEAT SHAKING TYPE OF SOUND. *TR
I BOUGHT A TOYOTA SIENNA 2011, ON MARCH 6, 2010. CURRENTLY IT'S GOT 20,354 MILES AND THE RUN FLAT BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL 400, P235/55RF18 TIRES ARE BALD. REAR RIGHT TIRE, I CAN SEE THE METAL UNDERNEATH THE TREAD AND IT'S GOT ZERO PRESSURE, REAR LEFT TIRE HAS NO TREAD LEFT AND THE FRONT 2 TIRES GOT VERY LITTLE TREAD LEFT. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED ON 6/7/2010 AND 12/27/2010. *TR

THE DEALER (GATEWAY TOYOTA, 395 NJ-37, TOMS RIVER, NJ 08753, (732) 240-2000) MADE NO MENTION AS TO WHEN THE REMEDY AND PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SLIDING DOORS FAILED TO OPEN AND CLOSE PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND THE RECALLS TO DETERMINE WHEN THE DEALER WOULD BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WHEN THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS TRAVELING 5 MPH. THE CONTACTS AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE CRASH DID NOT CONSTITUTE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER INSPECTED NOR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
OCTOBER 2010 I PURCHASED A TOYOTA SIENNA 2011. 3 MONTHS LATER I DROVE BACK FROM WORK AND I HAVE MY 4 CHILDREN WITH ME IN THE CAR WHERE THE CAR BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND AS WELL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE!!!! WAS THE WORST DAY IN MY LIFE!!!! I CRASHED INTO A TRUCK AND WE WERE ALL IN SHOCKED TO THIS DAY!!!!...AFTER THE CRASH I HAD RECEIVED A RECALL IN THE TOYOTA SIENNA 2011 FOR THE BRAKES? I AM WITHOUT CAR RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGES FOR THE OTHER CARS, IN PAIN, MY KIDS SUFFER SMALL INJURIES AND FOR A AUTO LOAN IN TOYOTA CRASHED. I HAD MADE CALLS BUT UNFORTUNATELY NO ONE WILL GIVE ME A ANSWER OR STAND AND FACE THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES... THIRD ROW OF SEATS DO NOT REMAIN SAFELY AND FIRMLY ATTACHED TO THE FLOOR. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO TWO TOYOTA DEALERS AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. TOYOTA HOPES TO FIX THE ISSUE IN A MONTH OR TWO. HOPE NOONE GETS KILLED WHILE TOYOTA WORKS ON FIXING THE ISSUE. *TR
MY NEW 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA LE AUTOMATIC POWER SLIDING DOOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE STOPPED WORKING. IT WON'T OPEN OR CLOSE USING REMOTE CONTROL AS WELL AS TOP CONSOLE/PILLAR SWITCHES. IF I TRY TO OPEN USING REMOTE CONTROL OR SWITCHES THEN IT WILL TRY TO OPEN BUT CLOSE IMMEDIATELY AND MAKE BEEPING SOUNDS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER COUPLE OF TIMES BUT THEY SIMPLY SAID THERE IS NO PROBLEM. FINALLY, WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA DIRECTLY THEN THE SAME DEALER DIAGNOSED IT FURTHER AND FOUND A FAULT CODE C224 IN THE SYSTEM. TOYOTA REFUSED TO FIX THE ISSUE PROMPTLY UNTIL WE FILED FOR ARBITRATION TO REPLACE THE CAR OR REFUND VEHICLE PURCHASE PRICE. TOYOTA FINALLY REPLACED POWER SLIDING DOOR MOTORS FOR BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. *TR
DRIVER SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR ON 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA REPEATEDLY (BUT INTERMITTENTLY) JAMS UPON OPENING -- HAPPENED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASED. BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS NOT REPLICATED BY TOYOTA SERVICE AND NO COMPUTER ERROR CODE WAS REGISTERED, THEY WERE PROHIBITED BY TOYOTA FROM ATTEMPTING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS WAS DESPITE THAT FACT THAT I HAD PHONE VIDEO DOCUMENTING THE PROBLEM, A TOYOTA SALESPERSON OBSERVED THE DOOR JAMMED, AND PREVIOUS TOYOTA TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS RELATED TO THE SIENNA POWER SLIDING DOOR PROBLEMS (BO010-01). I WAS TOLD THAT UNTIL ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN, TOYOTA WON'T RECOGNIZE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS IS REMINISCENT OF THE TOYOTA ACCELERATOR PROBLEM THAT THEY REFUSED TO ADDRESS UNTIL THEY WERE FORCED TO. *TR
TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL IS TAKING AN UNSATISFACTORY AMOUNT OF TIME TO GET STARTED. I STILL HAVE A DEFECTIVE AIR BAG IN MY 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA WHICH IS LIKE A BOMB THAT CAN EXPLODE AT ANYTIME. THIS CONDITION IS INTOLERABLE AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY. PLEASE ADVISE WHEN MY VEHICLES AIR BAG WILL BE REPLACED. THANKS.

AT 2400 MILES. MY TOYOTA SIENNA START HAVING WINDOWS PROBLEM. IT IS VERY NEW CAR. AFTER NUMBERS OF REPAIR. THIS SIENNA-STILL BOTH PASSENGER FRONT AND REAR WINDOWS WILL AUTOMATICALLY ROLL BACK DOWN WHEN GETTING TO THE TOP. AND BACK DOOR CAN NOT BE CLOSED COMPLETELY. ESPECIAL RECENTLY. I FEEL THIS IS VERY DANGERS. BECAUSE THIS VAN WINDOWS UP AND DOWN IT IS VERY DANGER FOR MY 2 YEARS OLD BABY. IT MAY CUT HIS HAND. I DO NOT WANT THIS TERRIBLE VAN ANYMORE. 5 MONTH OLD TOYOTA SIENNA 2011 STALLED AFTER THE LIGHTS INSIDE THE DASHBOARD (CONTROL PANEL) STARTED BLINKING AND THEN WOULD NOT START AGAIN. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER ON 12/22/2010. DEALER INITIALLY (ON 12/27/2010) SAID IT IS DUE TO WATER DAMAGE AND ENGINE HAS TO BE REPLACED. DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY EVIDENCE OF SIENNA BEING SUBMERGED IN WATER (AS IT DID NOT GO INTO ANY BIG PUDDLE OR DEEP WATERS). I OPENED A CASE WITH TOYOTA ON 12/28/2010. I WAS IN TOUCH WITH TOYOTA DEALER BUT CASE MANAGER AT TOYOTA INFORMED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REACH/SPEAK TO THE DEALER FOR 2 DAYS EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE BOTH IN CALIFORNIA. SHE INFORMED ME THAT THEIR POLICY IS TO CONCUR WITH DEALER WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE REPORT OR TALKING TO THEM AND THEY WOULD NEITHER INVESTIGATE NOR INSPECT. MY INSURANCE COMPANY (AAA) PERFORMED VISUAL INSPECTION AND FOUND TOO MANY METAL PIECES INSIDE THE ENGINE. INSURANCE COMPANY ALSO FOLLOWED UP WITH DEALER AND INFORMED THERE ARE OTHER CASES WHERE THEY HAD SEEN SIMILAR ISSUE WITH TOYOTA SIENNA 2011 AND THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A WATER DAMAGE. THERE HAS BEEN NEITHER AN EXPLANATION NOR A FOLLOW-UP FROM TOYOTA AS TO WHAT THE CAUSE WAS. DEALER REPORTED BACK ON 01/04/2011 AND INFORMED ME THAT IT MIGHT BE A MECHANICAL FAILURE AND TOYOTA WILL FIX IT. I AM NOW CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND ANYONE WHO DRIVES SIENNA. WHAT IF STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF FREEWAY ? WHAT IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN ? WORRIED AND TENSED OWNER OF TOYOTA SIENNA 2011.
THE CAR ACCELERATES VERY RAPIDLY IN REVERSE AFTER A COLD START. A MORNING A FEW DAYS AFTER BUYING THE CAR, I STARTED IT UP, SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, AND SLOWLY RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CAR BEGAN ACCELERATE BACKWARDS SO RAPIDLY THAT I THOUGHT I MUST INADVERTENTLY PUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. I PULLED MY FOOT AWAY FROM THE PEDALS BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I SHIFTED INTO PARK, BUT BEFORE THERE WAS ANY CHANGE IN SPEED THE CAR CRASHED INTO MY NEIGHBOR'S CAR ACROSS THE STREET, CAUSING OVER $5,000 IN DAMAGE. IF THERE HAD BEEN SOMEONE STANDING ACROSS THE STREET, IT WOULD LIKELY HAVE BEEN A FATALITY. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY SENT OUT A CORPORATE REPRESENTATIVE TO EXAMINE THE CAR. HE ACKNOWLEDGED THERE WAS RAPID ACCELERATION IN REVERSE, AND STATED THAT WAS "NORMAL" OPERATION FOR THE CAR AFTER A COLD START, AND THAT IT WOULD BE EVEN FASTER IN COLD WEATHER (WE LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA). HE STATED THEY HAD INCREASED THE CAR IDLE SPEED AFTER COLD STARTS FOR POLLUTION CONTROL PURPOSES, AND THIS WAS THE RESULT. I CAREFULLY REVIEWED THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND INSIDE OF THE CABIN FOR ANY WARNING ABOUT RAPID ACCELERATION IN REVERSE AFTER A COLD START, AND THERE WAS NONE. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A CAREFUL DRIVER WHO HAS MAINTAINED A GOOD DRIVER DISCOUNT, AND NOTHING REMOTELY LIKE THIS HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. AT THE VERY LEAST, BECAUSE THE COMPANY IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE THEY SHOULD PROMINENTLY PROVIDE WARNINGS TO NEW CAR BUYERS AND OWNERS. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE LOCKED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE VEHICLE SHOWED EXTENSIVE WEAR AND OVER HEATING OF THE PARKING BRAKE DUE TO DRIVING WHILE THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. THE CONTACT STATED THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING AND THE OVERHEATING ONLY OCCURRED TO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.

WE RECENTLY PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE AWD WITH AN OPTIONAL PACKAGE THAT INCLUDES FLOOR MATS. AFTER ARRIVING HOME, I REALIZED THAT THE DRIVERS FLOOR MAT WAS NOT SECURED TO THE VEHICLE, AND NO FASTENERS WERE PRESENT THAT WOULD ENABLE ME TO SECURE THE FLOOR MAT. THE FLOOR MAT ITSELF AND THE UNDERLYING CARPET BOTH CONTAIN RIVETS WITH THROUGH HOLES, BUT THAT IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO ATTACH THE TWO. SOME SORT OF SCREW / CLIP / BOLT / ETC IS NEEDED AND IS MISSING. THE FLOOR MAT DOES HAVE A WARNING TAG SAYING THAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE SECURED. GIVEN THE ATTENTION TO FLOOR MAT ISSUES IN TOYOTA VEHICLES, I AM VERY SURPRISED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD LEAVE THE FACTORY AND THE DEALERSHIP LIKE THIS.

PROBLEMS : LOST ACCELERATION WHEN THE CAR WAS FREE RUNNING (NO GAS PEDAL APPLIED) DOWN HILL OR DECLINED ROADS AT ABOUT 8-10 MPH, WHILE THE ENGINE SPEED WAS 1100RPM OR ABOVE ( THIS MOSTLY HAPPENED IN WINTER WHILE THE ENGINE WAS COLD OR NOT WARM UP, BUT IT HAPPENED IN HOT ENGINE TOO), IF I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE THE CAR AT THIS TIME, THE CAR WOULD NOT PICK-UP SPEED AND ACCELERATE; IT ACTED LIKE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN IN NEUTRAL; THE GAS PEDAL FELT LIGHTER THAN NORMAL; EVEN IF THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING UP FROM 1000RPM TO 1800RPM, I STILL COULDN'T FEEL THE ACCELERATING; IT ACTED LIKE CONTINUING ITS FREE RUNNING. ONLY WHEN THE ENGINE RAN UP TO1800-2000RPM THEN THE CAR STARTED PICK-UP SOME ACCELERATION. IN OTHER WORDS, THREE CONDITIONS MUST HAPPEN AT THE SAME TIME TO SEE THIS PROBLEM: 1)FREE RUNNING (NO GAS PEDAL APPLIED) DOWN HILL OR DECLINED ROADS, 2)FREE RUNNING AT ABOUT 8-10 MPH, 3)ENGINE SPEED IS AT 1100RPM OR ABOVE THEN STEP ON GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE. THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT HAPPEN ON UP-HILL ROAD, OR ACCELERATE SLOWLY FROM SPEED BELOW 10 MPH. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR INSPECTION TODAY. THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO REPRODUCE THIS PROBLEM ON A ROAD TEST WITH ME ON THE CAR. HE TESTED OTHER SIENNA LATER, WHILE I WAS WAITING. HE SAID ALL THE SIENNA ACTED LIKE THIS WAY. HE RESET THE COMPUTER FOR TRANSMISSION TO LEARN MY DRIVING HABIT, HOPING IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN IN COMPUTER PROGRAMMING PROBLEM. RESETTING COMPUTER WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THAT UNABLE TO ACCELERATE MY CAR WHEN I NEED TO IS A DANGEROUS, FOR I MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO AVOID SOME DANGEROUS SITUATIONS ON THE ROAD. *TR
IN NOVEMBER OF 2010, WE PURCHASED 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE. WITHIN A MONTH, ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS- THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOORS GOT STUCK MIDWAY. THEY WOULD NOT MOVE BACK OR FORWARD. WE TOOK IT TO THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP. WE WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA HAD THEM CLEAR SOME "CODES" FOR THE AUTOMATIC DOORS AND THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE SAME PROBLEM IS HAPPENING ON BOTH DOORS. WE TOOK THE CAR BACK AND THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED US THAT TOYOTA WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE NEW MOTORS IN THE CAR, ALTHOUGH IT IS A BRAND NEW CAR AND UNDER WARRANTY. DRIVING VEHICLE ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 22ND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN, DIFFICULT TO STOP. TOYOTA SCHEDULED TO REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER AGAIN ON NOVEMBER 23RD. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 5,300 MILES ON IT. *TR

THE DEALER INFORMED HER THAT THERE WAS A METAL BRACKET THAT COVERED THE BRAKE SENSOR AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED THE SENSOR INFORMED THE COMPUTER TO TURN ON THE HYDRAULIC BRAKES IN ORDER FOR THE BRAKES TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE METAL BRACKET ON THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED; THEREFORE, THE COMPUTER DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER SINCE THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHO EXCHANGED BACK HER OLD VEHICLE TO HER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,900.

I HAVE AN 8 MONTH OLD SON, WHO IS VERY TALL FOR HIS AGE. THEREFORE, HE IS IN A BRITAX ROUNDABOUT 50 CARSEAT - REARFACING. I DRIVE A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE. ONE DAY WHEN I WAS PARKED ON AN UPHILL INCLINE, MY SLEEPING SON'S HEAD FELL FORWARD AND HE STOPPED BREATHING UNTIL MY HUSBAND REALIZED IT AND PUSHED HIS HEAD BACK. THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE RECURRED. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ACCELERATION FAILURE AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,100. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
VAN JUST WON'T START. IT CRANKS OVER BUT WON'T START, AFTER TENS MINUTES IT STARTED UP FINE. VAN HAS ONLY 510 MILES. AT 5500 MILES VEHICLE AGAIN CRANKED BUT WOULD NOT START. AFTER IT STARTED, IT RAN ROUGH AND DIED AT TIMES, TOOK IT TO DEALER BUT THEY CAN NOT FIND PROBLEMS. VEHICLE RUNS FINE, AT ABOUT 5700 VEHICLE RUNS ROUGH AND DIES AT STOP LIGHTS, TOOK BACK TO DEALER THIS TIME THEY SAY IT WAS A BAD COMPUTER, TOYOTA TOOK CARE OF IT, A FEW THOUSANDS MILES LATER SAME PROBLEMS RUN ROUGH AT TIMES AND WON'T START, TOOK TO DEALER, CAN NOT FINE PROBLEMS, VEHICLE RAN FINE, NOW AT 10500 MILES SAME PROBLEMS AGAIN RAN ROUGH AND DIE AT STOP LIGHT, BUT RAN FINE JUST A FEW MINUTES LATER, DROVE HOME NEXT DAY ,IT WON'T START. TOW TO DEALER THEY SAY IT HAS SOME MOISTURE IN THE COMPUTER.
WE BOUGHT OUR FIRST MINIVAN - A TOYOTA SIENNA XLE 2011- BARELY TWO WEEKS AGO FROM TOYOTA LAUREL, MD. THE SECOND DAY, THE STEERING STARTED TO CREAK WHEN MAKING TURNS. NOW, THE TRUNK DOOR HAS STOPPED WORKING AND THE LOCAL NEW JERSEY DEALERSHIP DCH TOYOTA IS TELLING US IT HAS BEEN "BENT". THEY ARE REFUSING TO FIX IT OR REPLACE THE VEHICLE AND ARE TELLING US OUR INSURANCE COMPANY NEEDS TO PAY TO FIX IT. THE DOOR IS NOT DAMAGED OR DENTED/DINGED IN ANY WAY. IT'S PERFECTLY FINE, EXCEPT IT DOESN'T CLOSE ANYMORE WITH THE REMOTE CLOSING/OPENING BUTTONS. WE BELIEVE SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE ELECTRONICS, OR THAT THE DOOR WAS NOT CORRECTLY PUT IN WHEN THE CAR WAS BEING MANUFACTURED. WE HAVE A CHILD AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT ELSE IS GOING TO BREAK DOWN IN THIS NEW CAR THROUGH NO FAULT OF OUR OWN. *TR
MY BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ON WHEN I PARKED MY 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ABOUT 2 MILES, THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ON, AND THE MORE I DROVE IT FELT AS IF AN ANCHOR WAS HOLDING MY VAN BACK UNTIL FINALLY THE VAN WOULD NOT GO FORWARD OR REVERSE WHEN I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STUCK BECAUSE I BENT THE METAL BAR THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ATTACHED TO. THEY ARE PLANNING TO REPLACE THE METAL BAR WITH ANOTHER MADE OF A STRONGER METAL. THE VAN WAS ONLY 2 WEEKS OLD WHEN THIS HAPPENED WITH ABOUT 600 MILES ON IT. IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED ONCE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH AN ALARM THAT WOULD SOUND WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO INDICATE THAT THE REAR LIFT GATE WAS AJAR, ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THE CONTACT STATED THE ALARM WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NOT SOUND UNTIL THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 5 MPH. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE OWNER'S MANUAL WAS PRINTED BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS ACTUALLY MANUFACTURED AND THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE VEHICLE SHOULD OPERATE AS INDICATED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000. UPDATED 10/15/10 BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH AN ALARM THAT WOULD SOUND WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO INDICATE THAT THE SLIDING DOOR WAS OPEN. ACCORDING TO THE OWNERS MANUAL, A BUZZER SOUND IF THE SHIFT LEVER WAS MOVED OUT OF PARK WITH THE ENGINE IN THE ON POSITION AND THE SLIDING DOOR NOT COMPLETELY CLOSED. UPDATED 10/21/10
2011 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN WITH 220 MILES ON IT CAUGHT FIRE IN MY DRIVEWAY 2 MINUTES AFTER PARKING IT THERE. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ANYTHING. VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS, NO RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA FOR OVER TWO WEEKS, OWNED THE BRAND NEW VAN FOR LESS THAN A WEEK. A CAUSE AND EFFECT INVESTIGATOR HIRED BY MY INS CO FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE A FAULTY FAN WIRE THAT SHORTED OUT. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO MY HOUSE AND LANDSCAPING AS WELL. BURNED OUT VAN STILL SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY CAUSING DANGER WITH BROKEN GLASS AND SOOT TO MY CHILDREN AND PETS. UNABLE TO GET ANY RESPONSE WHAT SO EVER FROM TOYOTA. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN EXTREMELY HELPFUL. *TR
LATCHES ON THE REAR SLIDING DOORS OF OUR 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA LTD. ARE NOT RELEASING PROPERLY. WHEN THE DOORS ARE OPENED FROM THE HANDLES, THE MOTOR PULLS THE DOORS OPEN BUT THE LATCHES DO NOT RELEASE. YOU HEAR A POPPING SOUND AND THE DOORS POP OPEN. DEALER "REPROGRAMMED" THE DOORS TO NO AVAIL. AFTER DEALER CLAIMED TO HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA, THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM BUT SAID THERE IS NO KNOW FIX, AS THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE. *TR
TOYOTA SIENNA 2011 TOP TETHER ANCHOR BRACKET ON THE DRIVER SIDE 2ND ROW CAPTAIN CHAIR IS TOO LOW FOR A TOP TETHER STRAP TO HOOK ON. THE DESIGN OF THE 2ND ROW SEATS RESULTS IN A LOWER ANCHOR BRACKET ON THE DRIVER SIDE 2ND ROW SEAT AS OPPOSED TO THE PASSENGER SIDE 2ND ROW. COULD RESULT IN PARENTS DISREGARDING WARNINGS AGAINST NOT USING A TOP TETHER IF THE CAR SEAT IS EQUIPPED WITH ONE AND CREATING AN UNSAFE CONDITION FOR THE CHILD. VAN WAS PURCHASED ON 5/31; ISSUE FOUND THE NEXT DAY AND REPORTED TO TOYOTA CORPORATION ON 6/2/2010. TOLD THAT NO ACTION WOULD BE TAKEN BASED ON MY CALL AS IT WAS THE FIRST REPORT OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
