UPON COMING TO A STOP (MOST OF THE TIME...PERHAPS MORE THEN 50%), THE VEHICLE WILL 'LURCH' FORWARD SLIGHTLY...EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER A YEAR AGO (AND IS ON FILE WITH THEM). I WAS TOLD THAT THIS CONDITION WAS 'NORMAL'. NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN BY THE DEALER TO CORRECT OR OTHERWISE STOP THIS CONDITION. IT HAS NOT BEEN SO BAD THAT I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE (JUST PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL HARDER). STILL, IF NOT PAYING ATTENTION, A COLLISION MIGHT READILY OCCUR IN STOPPED TRAFFIC. *JB
2005 TOYOTA TACOMA TAILGATE IS DANGEROUSLY WEAK, AND IS UNABLE TO SUPPORT WHAT MOST CONSIDER NORMAL WEIGHT FOR A TRUCK TAILGATE. ALTHOUGH SUBSTANDARD DESIGN MAY BE CONSIDERED "BUYER BEWARE", TRUCK BUYERS EXPECT A TAILGATE TO SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF NORMAL TRUCK USE ACTIVITIES. TOYOTA PROVIDES NO WARNING OR CAUTION ANYWHERE THAT THE TAILGATE IS OF INSUFFICIENT STRENGTH TO PERFORM NORMAL 1/2-TON TRUCK DUTIES, AND TYPICALLY (PER INTERNET FORUM THREADS) TELLS THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT IT IS THEIR PROBLEM AND THAT THEY SHOULD NOT EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO SAFELY USE THE TAILGATE FOR ANYTHING MORE THAN HIDING THE INSIDE OF THE BED. SINCE TOYOTA HAS PRODUCED A SUBSTANDARD DESIGNED PART, THEY SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED A VISUAL WARNING ON THE PART TO ALERT CUSTOMERS TO THE DANGER THEIR PRODUCT IMPOSES IF USED IN A TRADITIONAL MANNER. SINCE THEY DID NOT DO SO, THEY SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE TO PROVIDE A REDESIGNED PART TO THEIR CUSTOMERS OR FULL RESTITUTION FOR THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE VEHICLES. A GOOGLE OR SIMILAR INTERNET SEARCH ON "TACOMA TAILGATE FORUM" WILL SUBSTANTIATE MY STATEMENTS BEYOND MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE TAILGATE BENDING. *NM
MY 2005 TACOMA HAS HAD A CLUTCH SQUEAL SINCE IT WAS BRAND NEW. TOYOTA HAS REPLACED 2 CLUTCHES AFTER 2 RELEASE BEARING FAILURES IN LESS THEN 1 YEARS TIME. AFTER THE SECOND CLUTCH THE SQUEAL CAME BACK WITHIN 3,000 MILES. THE DEALER LUBED THE SLAVE CYLINDER / CLUTCH FORK INTERSECTION POINT. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS FROM 48 HRS TO 1 MONTH INTERVALS THEY LUBED IT NUMEROUS TIMES. FED UP I INFORMED THEM I WOULD NOT BE COMING IN CONSTANTLY TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION LUBED. THEY REPLACED THE SLAVE CYLINDER AND CLUTCH FORK. WITHIN 48 HRS THE SQUEAL WAS BACK. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE IN FOR A TOYOTA FIELD TECH TO LOOK AT THE REPLACED THE CLUTCH RETURN SPRING. WITHIN 24 HOURS THE SQUEAL WAS BACK. DURING ALL THE INCIDENTS I CONTACTED TOYOTA TO KEEP THEM INFORMED OF THE ISSUES. THE LATEST CALL RESULTED IN ESCALATION AS I HAVE REQUESTED REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION AS THERE IS APPARENTLY A DEFECT IN THE CASTING OF THE TRANSMISSION OR AN INTERNAL ISSUE. TOYOTA CALLED ME BACK TO SAY THEY WOULD WORK OUT A PLAN WITH MY DEALER TO FIX THE VEHICLE. (THIS IS AFTER 13 TRIPS TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM BETWEEN REPAIRS AND LUBE TRIPS.) I WAS INFORMED I WOULD BE CALLED BACK NO LATER THEN THURSDAY NOV 14TH. AS OF THIS POINT THERE HAS BEEN NO CONTACT AND I'M TAKING LEGAL ACTIONS. *TR
THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK IS RUSTING OUT AT AN ACCELERATED RATE. THE WELDS ARE RUSTING OUT AT HIGH STRESS POINTS (ENGINE MOUNTS AND SUSPENSION AREAS). TOYOTA HAS A HISTORY OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE TACOMA. *TR
MY CONCERN IS THAT THE TIRES ON OEM TIRES ON MY VEHICLE (2005 TOYOTA TACOMA X-RUNNER) ARE DEFECTIVE. I HAD A "SPLIT" IN MY TIRE AND I TOOK IT TO BRIDGESTONE AND THEY SAID THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY REPLACED ALL OF MY TIRES, NOT JUST THE PROBLEM ONE WITH NO QUESTIONS. WHERE MY CONCERN COMES IN IS THAT I KNOW OTHER WITH THE SAME VEHICLE AS I HAVE AND THEY EXACT SAME PROBLEM, BUT THE BRIDGESTONE REP. IN THEIR AREA IS TELLING THEM THAT THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IF THE TIRE IS UNSAFE AND SOME AREA KNOW ABOUT THIS AND ARE FIXING IT WHY ARE NOT ALL THE AREAS AWARE OF THIS. I FEEL THAT THEY ARE KNOWINGLY PUTTING LIVES AT RISK BY ALLOWING THIS TO GO ON WITH NO SOLUTION. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION SHOCKS HAD BEEN REPLACED MORE THAN EIGHT TIMES DUE TO A RECURRING FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD WARRANTY THE DEALER REPLACED THE COMPONENT EACH TIME UNTIL THE CONTACT'S FACTORY WARRANTY HAD BECOME EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT BOTH SHOCKS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 172,180.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL CAME OFF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LEAVE THE ROAD AND STRIKE OTHER VEHICLES PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE POLICE FILED A REPORT AT THE SCENE. BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER RECEIVED INJURIES, ALTHOUGH BOTH WERE WEARING SEAT BELTS. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE AGENCY. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO DETERMINATION ON WHAT CAUSED THE WHEEL TO DISLODGE. UPDATED 5/2/2006 - *NM
POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD 29 MAR 06 05/06 TACOMA SUSPENSION DESIGN-DESIGN FLAW AND POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THIS IS NOT A QUESTION BUT A DESCRIPTION OF WHAT I AND OTHER PREVIOUS AND CURRENT TACOMA OR TRUCK OWNERS CONSIDER A DESIGN FLAW AND POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. I'M HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE FRONT END METAL SUSPENSION KNUCKLE THAT SITS A 1/2 INCH AWAY FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE TIRE. THIS IS ON THE 05 TACOMA CREW CAB 4X4 SHORTBED W/TRD, TOW PKG (OC)OPTIONS. -THIS CAUSES ISSUE THIS COULD CAUSE FLEXING OF THE TIRE DURING NORMAL ON-ROAD AND OFF-ROAD BUMPS CAUSING THE TIRE TO FLEX AND POSSIBLY RUB AGAINST THE SUSPENSION KNUCKLE. THIS SITUATION IS COMPOUNDED IF A TIRE RUNS A LITTLE LOW ON AIR PRESSURE AND COULD CAUSE A PREMATURE CUT TIRE OR BLOWOUT. ANOTHER UNRELATED ITEM--THE NEW 05/06 TACOMA REAR SUSPENSION BOTTOMS OUT TO EASY. DURING A RECENT HUNTING TRIP OCT 05 IN COLORADO. I HAD MY HUNTING GEAR DISTRIBUTED EVENLY IN THE CREW CAB AND THE SHORTBED (APPX 100PDS IN THE BACK SEAT, ONLY MYSELF 220PD IN DRIVER SEAT, AND APPX 400 PDS IN THE TRUCK BED. THE TRUCK BED HAD APPX 275 PDS BETWEEN THE WHEEL WELL AND TAILGATE AND OTHER 100-150 MAX IN FRONT OF BED EVENLY DESTROYED. THE TRUCK BOTTOMED OUT QUITE EASILY ON FAIRLY MINOR RUTS ON DIRT ROADS AND ON HIGHWAY DITCHES THAT WERE ONLY MINOR SLOPED AND SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSE THE TRUCK TO BOTTOM OUT. THE TRUCK WAS NOT CLOSE TO THE 50% WEIGHT LIMIT AND THE REAR OF THE TRUCK STANDING STILL WAS NOT SAGGING MUCH AT ALL FROM THE WEIGHT. I WAS REALLY SHOCKED THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE THE TRUCK BOTTOMED OUT ON MINOR SLOW SPEED RUTS AND DURING HIGHWAY ROAD HUMPS OR DIPS. THIS NEVER HAPPENED WITH MY 95 OR 98 TACOMA UNLESS I HAD 75% PLUS OF THE BED CARRY LIMIT MET. I THINK YOU NEED TO BEEF UP OR RETEST/REDESIGN THE SPRINGS AND/OR SHOCKS TO MEET THE NEW TRUCKS WEIGHT AND LOAD CARRY CAPABILITIES BETTER. BILLY ARMOUR. *NM
THROTTLE STUCK. TRUCK WANTED TO LUNGE IN TRAFFIC. *TR
WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND, THERE IS AN INCONSISTENT AND UNPREDICTABLE MECHANICAL SENSATION THAT VARIED FROM A MILD YET DISTINCT ROUGH TRANSITION (CREATING THE PERCEPTION THAT I WAS FORCING THE GEARS) TO A DRAMATIC MECHANICAL SENSATION OF GEARS CHANGING (AT TIMES ACCOMPANIED WITH A CLICKING SOUND). I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE MASTER TECHNICIAN (MT) DRIVE THE TRUCK AND SEE IF HE WAS EXPERIENCING WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING. HE SHARED THAT HE COULD FEEL THE GEARS AND SAID HE COULD REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION IF THE FACTORY TRAINED SPECIALIST (FTS) AGREED IT NEEDED REPLACING. FTS DROVE THE TRUCK WITH ME AND DID NOT FEEL THAT THERE WAS ANYTHING ABNORMAL ABOUT THE SHIFTING (VEHICLE OPERATES AS DESIGNED...). BECAUSE THE PRESENT SHIFTING SENSATION MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE FORCING OR GRINDING GEARS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE GIVEN I CAN TEND TO BE MORE FOCUSED ON THE SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND THAN ON DRIVING AND IT IS UNCERTAIN WHETHER THE TRANSMISSION WILL POSSIBLY FAIL WHILE I AM DRIVING THE TRUCK. I HAVE OWNED AT LEAST 5 OR 6 FIVE-SPEED VEHICLES. I HAVE ALSO WORKED ON TRANSMISSIONS. IN ALL MY EXPERIENCE WITH 5-SPEEDS I HAVE OWNED, I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A SHIFTING PROBLEM LIKE I AM PRESENTLY EXPERIENCING. THIS IS A BRAND NEW, SUPPOSEDLY, QUALITY TOYOTA VEHICLE AND IT UNQUESTIONABLY SEEMS THAT SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I AM CURRENTLY IN ARBITRATION. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WAS SHIFTED FROM FOUR WHEEL DRIVE HIGH OR LOW, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ALWAYS SHIFT. THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE AUDIBLE ALARM STATING THE VEHICLE HAS NOT SHIFTED CAME ON. AN ADDITIONAL 5 ATTEMPTS WERE NEEDED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED. THE TECHNICAL REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE MANUFACTURER DROVE THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THIS WAS NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS. ALSO, WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES WERE BELOW ZERO DEGREES THE KEYLESS ENTRY WOULD NOT UNLOCK THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP TESTED THE KEY FOB AND REPLACED THE BATTERY, BUT THIS DID NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 3/22/2006 - *NM
I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA X-RUNNER. I HAVE TIRES THAT ARE SPLITTING ACROSS THE TREAD. IT SEEM THAT EVERY MODEL OF THIS TRUCK IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND NO RECALL IS BEING DONE. THISWAS MY SECOND REPORT ON THIS INCIDENT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED FOR THE LAST INCIDENT WHERE THE FRONT BRAKES FAILED, THE DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN SAID THE LOSS WAS DUE TO AN AFTER-MARKET SECURITY/REMOTE SYSTEM THAT I HAD INSTALLED BY A TIDY CAR. THEY SUGGESTED I HAVE THIS DISCONNECTED. AFTER HAVING THE SYSTEM DISCONNECTED I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL AUTOMATIC CAR WASH. WHEN LEAVING THE CAR WASH I EXPERIENCES LOSS OF BRAKES AS I PULLED INTO TRAFFIC. THIRD TIME I'VE LOST BRAKES WHEN ROTORS GOT WET.*AK

I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA TRD 4X4 THEY HAVE REPLACED MY FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS 6 TIMES KNOW MY FRONT DIFF, THE TRANSMISSION ONCE AND MY REAR END. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP W/ THE 1 ENGINE. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, I NOTICED A NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHEN I ACCELERATE FROM A STOP. THE NOISE SOUNDED LIKE A KNOCK OR A SMALL HOLE IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. I RETURNED THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER, AND PROVIDED THE INFORMATION. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T HEAR A THING. (THIS WAS IN PHILDELPHIA). WHEN I RETURNED HOME TO NEW ORLEANS AFTER KATRINA, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A TOYOTA DEALER, WHO SAID IT WAS AN ENGINE KNOCK AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE ABOUT IT. OVER TIME THE NOISE GOT LOUDER AND I TOOK THE TRUCK TO ANOTHER DEALER TOYOTA OF SLIDELL. THEIR TECHNICIAN TOOK A RIDE WITH ME AND HEARD THE NOISE HIMSELF, BUT INDICATED HE FOUND NO PROBLEM WHEN THE TRUCK WAS CHECKED OUT. AT A LATER DATE I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THE NOISE AGAIN AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT TOYOTA HAD A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ISSUED ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHICH WAS IN ONE OF THE TWO EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ON THE ENGINE. BOTH EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WERE REPLACED AND THE NOISE SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN FIXED. AT A LATER DATE, I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THAT THE PROBLEM RETURNED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THEY HAD COMPLETED EVERYTHING THE COULD BASED ON TOYOTA'S GUIDANCE. I REQUESTED THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS BE REPLACED AGAIN SINCE IT SEEMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS ELIMINATED WHEN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WERE REPLACED ORIGINALLY. HE CHECKED WITH THE REGIONAL TECHNICAL REP WHO SAID TO GO AHEAD AND REPLACE THE EQUIPMENT A SECOND TIME, AND THIS WAS DONE. THE NOISE RETURNED SHORTLY THEREAFTER. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM AND THEY STATED THAT NOTHING ELSE COULD BE DONE AND PROVIDED ME WITH THE TOYOTA COMPLAINT HOTLINE NUMBER. I CALLED THE NUMBER, WAS ASSIGNED A NUMBER AND HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE. THE ARE TO SEND ME SOME ARBITRATION FORMS. I FEEL THAT I WAS SOLD A TRUCK WITH A DEFECT THAT WILL DIMINISH THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN I EITHER SELL IT MYSELF OR USE IT AS A TRADE-IN. *AK
DURING RECENT COLD WINTER WEATHER, HAD COUPLE INCIDENTS WHERE BRAKES APPEARED TO NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY ON MODERATE ICE/SLUSHY ROAD CONDITION AND THIS CAUSED ON ONE OCCASION TO RUN THROUGH INTERSECTION DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BEING FORTUNATE THAT NO OTHER TRAFFIC WAS PRESENT AT THE TIME. THIS ALL COMES AFTER A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT AT 6271 MILES AND REAR BRAKE WORK ON THE VEHICLE AT 6558 MILES. THIS TRUCK IS LIKE A LEMON. *NM
WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED AT LEGAL FREEWAY SPEEDS, ANY SLIGHT UPHILL (OR STRONG HEADWIND) WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO LOSE 2 TO 3 MPH -- THEN THE THROTTLE WILL SUDDENLY GO WIDE OPEN, OR NEARLY SO. THE TRANSMISSION THEN DOWNSHIFTS (OFTEN FROM 5TH TO 3RD) FOLLOWED BY VERY RAPID ACCELERATION TO A SPEED SEVERAL MPH ABOVE THE PRESET SPEED, BEFORE FINALLY SLOWING TO THE CORRECT PRESET. THIS HAS OCCURRED CONSISTENTLY SINCE WE PURCHASED THE TACOMA NEW IN 2005. THE DEALER TOLD ME IT IS NORMAL, BUT NONE OF MY OTHER VEHICLES HAVE EVER DONE THIS. *TW
ON TWO OCCASIONS THE BRAKES HAVE FAILED IN WET CONDITIONS. THE FIRST OCCURRED WHEN GOING THROUGH STANDING WATER OF ABOUT 5" UNDER NORMAL TEMPERATURE. THE SECOND OCCURRED AFTER GOING THROUGH A CAR WASH IN TEMPERATURE OF 39 DEGREES. AFTER GOING THROUGH THE CAR WAS I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 5 MPH THROUGH A PARKING LOT TO PARK IN FRONT OF A CONVENIENCE STORE, THE TRUCK STUCK THE CURB, AND NEARLY STRUCK PROPANE TANKS STORED IN FRONT OF STORE. AFTER DRYING THE VEHICLE AND WAITING ABOUT 15 MINUTES I PROCEEDED TO THE INTERSECTION IN FRONT OF BUSINESS AND BRAKES FAILED AGAIN. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT SMELLED ASPHYXIATE GAS FUMES WHEN COLD STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 8,000, AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE IS UNKNOWN. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS. *AK THE CONSUMER PROVIDED A COPY OF REPAIR INVOICE. AFTER HAVING TRANSMISSION REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE AT 6271 MILES, LESS THAN 2 WEEKS LATER AGAIN HEARD A CLINKING SOUND EMANATING FROM THE REAR TRANSMISSION WHEEL AREA. DEALER DISCOVERED ISSUE WAS BOLTS ON RIGHT REAR E-BRAKE CABLE INSIDE DRUM CAME OUT AND BRAKE SHOE WAS LOCKING UP REAR AND THEN MAKING IT HARD TO SHIFT INTO GEAR AND BOLT WAS MAKING THE GRINDING NOISE AT LOWER 1ST GEAR. DEALER REMOVED AND CLEANED AXLES, INSTALLED NEW BOLTS ON E-BRAKE CABLE, REMOVED AND REPAIRED REAR BRAKE SHOES AND MACHINED BOTH REAR DRUMS. *NM
2005 TACOMA PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH CLOSED, WHEN DOOR WAS CLOSED. HAD TO HOLD DOOR CLOSED UNTIL TRUCK WAS DRIVEN HOME. THERE WERE TWO PEOPLE IN TRUCK, ONE TO DRIVE THE OTHER TO HOLD DOOR SHUT. NEXT BUSINESS DAY TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS. NO REPAIR FOR FAULTY PART, PART WAS PUT ON ORDER, A TEMP FIX WAS DONE SO DOOR WOULD REMAIN CLOSED. WAS ADVISED NOT TO USE DOOR UNTIL NEW PART WAS INSTALLED. *NM
I PURCHASED A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA, 6 SPEED IN JUNE OF 2005. JUST BEFORE THE VEHICLE ATTAINED 14,000 MILES IT STARTED SLIPPING OUT OF 4TH GEAR. I PLACED A CALL TO THE DEALER, AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED, "IT WILL NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION" DURING THE 5 MINUTE CONVERSATION ON THE PHONE. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON WEEK LATER, WITHIN THE FIRST 2 HOURS OF THEM RECEIVING THE TRUCK A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS ORDERED. THIS TELLS ME THAT THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM REGULARLY. IF A NUMBER OF 6 SPEED TACOMAS' HAVE BEEN RETURNED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, SHOULDN'T THE CONSUMER BE NOTIFIED. AFTER ALL MY CAR SLIPS OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING, THAT SEEMS TO BE A BIT OF A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME. THE VEHICLE HAS SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AT LEAST 25 TIMES PRIOR TO BEING FIXED. *JB
OVER NORMAL USE OF THE VEHICLE, IT HAS SUSTAINED SEVERAL PAINT CHIPS. THE PAINT HAS BEEN CHIPPED ON THE FRONT SIDE OF THE BED, FROM DEBRIS BEING THROWN UP BY THE FRONT TIRES, AND ON THE ROCKER PANELS. TOYOTA OBVIOUSLY THOUGHT OF THE ISSUE BY PLACING A THICKER COAT ALONG THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. IT DID NOT WORK. THE REAR SPRINGS ARE ALSO SQUEAKING ALREADY. USUALLY NOT AN ISSUE AS THE BUSHINGS WEAR OUT, BUT A LITTLE CONCERNED AFTER ONLY 4600 MILES HAVE BEEN PUT ON THE VEHICLE. *NM
I HAVE 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB 4X4, VEHICLE HAS A VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END AS IF THE FRONT TIRES ARE OUT OF BALANCE, THE TIRES HAVE BEEN BALANCED TWO TIMES IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS WHICH DOESN'T SEEM TO BE THE ISSUE. JUST BOUGHT 2005 TACOMA PRERUNNER DOUBLE CAB 4X2 TRD OFF ROAD VEHICLE AFTER DRIVING IT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND REACH SPEED BETWEEN 60 TO 72 MPH THE VEHICLES SWAYS BACK AND FORTH LIKE A PATCH OF WIND IS PUSHING THE VEHICLE OR WHEN PASSING A SEMI TRUCK THE VEHICLE WILL SWAY BACK AND FORTH. BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER MECHANIC SAID THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM NOW WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THERE IS NO FIX FOR IT. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WHICH CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AT HIGH SPEEDS. ITS LIKE THE WIND IS BLOWING THE VEHICLE FROM SIDE TO SIDE. BACK IN JUNE 2005 I OBSERVED A SIGNIFICANT "RUBBING" NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR WARRANTY REPAIR I WAS INFORMED THAT THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING WAS BAD. ON OCTOBER 24TH 2005 I RETURNED TO THE DEALER EXPERIENCING A SIMILAR "RUBBING" NOISE AND WAS TOLD ON THIS OCCASION THAT BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT BEARINGS HAD FAILED. 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA PICK UP TRUCK WHEN OPERATING IN THE CRUISE CONTROL MODE, AND WHEN COMING UP ON A STRETCH OF ROAD WHICH IS UPHILL, THE ACCELERATOR WILL KICK IN A FULL OPEN AND UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION MODE CAUSING THE NEED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL TO PREVENT FROM RUNNING IN TO SOMETHING IN FRONT OF ME. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN AND ROUTINELY WHEN USING THE CRUISE CONTROL AND HITTING AN UPHILL STRETCH OF ROAD. I HAVE REQUESTED SERVICE FROM THE TOYOTA DEALER IN KNOXVILLE, TN SEVERAL YEARS AGO ( APPROX. 2006-2007 TIME FRAME. HOWEVER, THEY DISMISSED THE CLAIM AS THE "PASSING GEAR" OF THE TRANSMISSION KICKING IN WITHOUT EVEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND TESTING IT. HOWEVER, THE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE EVENT WHEN IT HAPPENS IS THAT THERE IS IMMEDIATE UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION THAT IS EQUIVALENT TO THE ACCELERATOR BEING FULLY DEPRESSED WHICH REQUIRES INTERVENTION TO INTERRUPT. I'M REPORTING THIS FOR MY FRIEND WITH A 2005 TOYOTA X-RUNNER WITH THE ORIGINAL OEM BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE050 18" TIRES. THE TIRE HAS A SPLIT ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE RIGHT REAR TIRE THAT LOOKS AS IF IT IS A GASH. WHILE PASSING SEVERAL RADAR SIGNS, I NOTICED MY TRUCKS SPEEDOMETER WAS READING ABOUT 8% ABOVE THE ACTUAL SPEED I WAS TRAVELING. A CHECK AT A "SPEEDOMETER CHECK" WHERE THEY HAVE MILEAGE SIGNS EVERY MILE FOR SEVERAL MILES ALSO CONFIRMED THIS. A TRIP WITH MY GPS ALSO SHOWED THE SPEEDOMETER WAS INACCURATE. THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED MY TRUCK ON THEIR SMOG DYNO AND SAID MY SPEEDOMETER WAS ONLY 1 MPH OFF AT 40 MPH. THEY INFERRED THAT SATELLITES, POLICE RADAR AND MY WRIST WATCH ARE LESS ACCURATE THAN THEIR SMOG TEST DYNO, NOT LIKELY. I'M GETTING RIPPED OFF FOR 8% OF MY WARRANTY! *JB

IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE AND ABS WARNING INDICATORS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE WARNING INDICATORS REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE REAR PINION AND GEAR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED TWICE UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

2005 TOYOTA TACOMA XTRA CAB 4X4. PASSENGER SIDE CARPET AREA WAS DISCOVERED WET AT AROUND 1379 MILES. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT HOSE CONNECTION ON THE EVAPORATOR BOX HAD CRACKED OFF WHERE THE DRAIN HOSE CONNECTS TO THE BOX. HAD TO ORDER AND REPLACE THE LOWER PART OF THE BOX, WHICH REQUIRED COMPLETE REMOVAL OF FRONT DASH. SUBSEQUENT PROBLEM WITH WINDSHIELD VENTS WAS REPAIRED AFTER RETURN AND DISCOVERY THAT VENT WAS NOT PROPERLY RECONNECTED WHEN FRONT DASH WAS REINSTALLED. *JB

I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 05 TOYOTA TACOMA X-RUNNER, IT HAD ABOUT 1,500 MILE ON THE CAR AND THE TIRE HAD A GASH ON IT ALL ACROSS. IT WAS THE PASSANGER SIDE REAR TIRE. THE TIRES COME STOCK FROM THE DEALER. I HAD A PROBLEM TRYING TO CHANGE IT WITH FIRESTONE DEALER BUT AFTER THE THIRD FIRESTONE DEALER THEY DECIDED TO CHANGE ONLY THE ONE WITH THE GASH. NOTED PAIN IN BACK WHILE DRIVING. AFTER REPEATED CLOSE INSPECTION OF DRIVER'S SEAT, NOTED VERY SLIGHT PROTRUSION IN SEAT BACK. TOOK TO MILLER TOYOTA IN MANASSAS, VA AND SERVICE AGENT HAS REPORTED THAT A SPRING HAD COME LOOSE AND THAT IT HAD ALSO CUT THE WIRE TO THE SIDE AIR BAG, WHICH MADE THE AIR BAG INOPERATIVE. MY NEW 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA MAKES A MOANING WHINING SOUND WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR IS ON AND THE NOISE IS MORE NOTICEABLE AT BETWEEN 1200 AND 1500 RPM. I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY HEARD THE NOISE BUT IT WAS NORMAL IN THEIR OPINION AS THEY HEARD OTHERS MAKE THE SAME NOISE. THE NOISE IS ANNOYING AND THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 900 MILES ON IT.
