SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES ON ICE OR SLIPPERY SNOW,IT SEEMED LIKE MY BRAKES FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY, AT THE INITIAL APPLICATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE AT A TRAFFIC STOP WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF HIS. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TRADED BECAUSE THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE VEHICLE TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 19,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE TIRE AIR PRESSURE SENSOR WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE AIR PRESSURE WAS LOW IN THE TIRE AND DISPENSED AIR INTO THE TIRE. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN OF THE LOCATION OF THE TIRE ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON SIX SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURES WHICH THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. THE FAILURES CONTINUED TO OCCUR. ALSO, THERE WAS A REPLACEMENT OF THE TIRE RIMS. IN ADDITION, THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE EXPLODED WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO TRAVEL UNCONTROLLABLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL WITH NO INJURIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WANTED TO WRITE YOU TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I HAVE A '06 TACOMA DOUBLE CAB AND I AM EXPERIENCING THE "LURCH" PROBLEM. I HAVE AROUND 2000 MILES ON MY TRUCK. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME BEING PICKY, BUT IT ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE IT DOESN'T WANT TO STOP AT TIMES. I HAVE NOTICED THAT WITH THE AC OR HEAT ON, IF I ARE SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, AND DON'T HAVE MY FOOT FIRMLY, I MEAN FIRMLY PLANTED ON THE BRAKE, IT WANTS TO JUMP FORWARD. IT WILL DO THIS A COUPLE OF TIMES IF THE LIGHT IS RED FOR A WHILE. ALSO, IF I AM DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AT SLOW SPEEDS, IT TENDS TO "LURCH" FORWARDS AT TIMES, THUS CAUSING ME TO "PLAY" WITH THE BRAKE AND GAS. NOT SURE IF THIS IS RELATED OR NOT, BUT ALSO, IF I AM RIDING AT ABOUT 34-45 MPH AND THEN RELEASE THE GAS, THE ENGINE FEELS LIKE IT STALLS, BUT IT DOESN'T. THE RPMS DROP, THEN LEVEL OFF AGAIN AS IT COAST. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS WITHIN THE SQUID CIRCUIT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,685 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 149,000. 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA, MANY TIMES WHEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT I TOO HAVE EXPERIENCE THE "LURCHING". I WILL HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND FOR SOME REASON THE ENGINE GOES TO A HIGHER IDLE AND THE BREAK IS NO LONGER ADEQUATE TO KEEP THE TRUCK STOPPED AND SO IT JUMPS/LURCHES AHEAD. PRESSING HARDER ON THE BRAKE IS THE ANSWER TO THIS ISSUE. I ALSO AT TIMES FEEL LIKE THE TRUSK DOES NOT WANT TO STOP...WHEN COASTING TO A RED LIGHT THE TRUCK KINDA WANTS TO KEEP GOING. ON OUR 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA 4-CYLINDER 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION, WHICH WE BOUGHT NEW, WHEN YOU LIFT OFF THE GAS AND PRESS IN THE CLUTCH TO SHIFT, THE ENGINE RPM'S DO NOT DROP AS THEY SHOULD, THEY REMAIN HIGH AND EVEN INCREASE. THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE SINCE IT WAS ALMOST NEW. NORMALLY WHEN YOU SHIFT THE RPM SHOULD DROP BETWEEN SHIFTS - INSTEAD THE REVS STAY CONSTANT OR INCREASE BETWEEN SHIFTS. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH "UNINTENDED ACCELERATION", BUT RATHER THE THROTTLE GETTING "HUNG" WHEN IN NEUTRAL BETWEEN SHIFTS. EVEN TAPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL DOES NOT CAUSE THE REVS TO DROP, THEY STAY HIGH OR INCREASE. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT IT WAS A TOYOTA "FEATURE" TO SMOOTH OUT SHIFTS, BUT AFTER ALL THE PRESS, I HAVE COME TO THINK IT IS A STICKY THROTTLE ISSUE, WHETHER DUE TO MECHANICAL ISSUES (STICKY CABLE, STICKY THROTTLE LINKAGE) OR ELECTRONIC ISSUES. I CONTACTED TOYOTA ONLINE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, GOT A CONFIRMATION THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED THE COMPLAINT, BUT THAT IS THE LAST I HAVE HEARD. I PUT IN A REQUIRED MONTH/YEAR/DATE, BUT REALLY IT IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE THE CAR WAS ALMOST NEW. *TR
ENGINE TICK IS BOTHERSOME ON A JUST PURCHASED 2006 TACOMA. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK BECAUSE OF THE STANDARD OF QUALITY, BUT I GUESS I THOUGHT WRONG. TRUCK ONLY HAS 600 MILES ON IT, AND THE TICKING IS GETTING WORSE. *JB
ERRATIC CRUISE CONTROL. WILL NOT SET CONSISTENTLY. SHIFTS AND ACCELERATES VIOLENTLY. *NM
DECEMBER 2006 TRUCK PARKED WITH EMERGENCY BRAKE OFF AND WOULD NOT MOVE BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURE. ALL FOUR WHEELS LOCKED UP. TOWED TO DEALER, AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO FIX HE STATED THE WHEEL BEARING WERE LEAKING GREASE AND FREEZING UP SO TRUCK WOULD NOT MOVE. TRUCK OPERATES GOOD ALL YEAR TILL IT GETS BELOW FREEZING AND WHEELS LOCK UP. DEALER DOES NOT KNOW THE PROBLEM, BUT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN PARKED AND BELOW FREEZING. DECEMBER 10 2012 REAR WHEELS LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING IN BELOW FREEZING CAUSING TRUCK TO SLIDE AND MISS TWO ON COMING CARS, TRUCK ENDS UP IN DITCH. WOULD SELL VEHICLE BUT AFRAID ANYONE DRIVING IT IN COLD WEATHER WOULD BE STRANDED OR IN A FATAL WRECK. ARE OTHER TRUCKS HAVING SAME ISSUE AS I HUNT AND GO BACK 30 MILES INTO THE WOODS AND IF FREEZES I WOULD BE STRANDED. *TR
ENGINE RACES WHEN SHIFTING FROM 4TH TO 5TH GEAR. ENGINE RPM MAY GO AS HIGH AS 3,000 RPMS. 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA ACCESS CAB 4 CYLINDER 4-WHEEL DRIVE. MANUFACTURER SAY THIS IS AN EMISSION PROCEDURE. IT'S O.K. TO SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION AND LET THE CLUTCH OUT WHILE THE ENGINE IS FEE WINDING. EVEN THE TOYOTA MECHANICS AT MY LOCAL DEALER SAYS THIS IS WRONG IT WILL RUIN THE CLUTCH EVENTUALLY. I PAID CASH FOR THIS VEHICLE.......AND TOYOTA JUST AS SOON GET RID OF ME RATHER THAN FIX THE PROBLEM. I WILL DO EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO GIVE TOYOTA ALL THE FREE PUBLICITY I CAN ON EVERY FORUM THERE IS ON THE NET. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR NEW 2006 TACOMA, MY 9 YEAR OLD AND I WERE IN THE BACK SEAT. MY WIFE BEGAN TO SCREAM BECAUSE THE TRUCK BEGAN TO ACCELERATE UNCONTROLLABLY, SHE WAS "STANDING" ON THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT IT DID NOT SLOW DOWN. THE ACCELERATION CONTINUANCE FOR A LITTLE UNDER A MILE BEFORE REGAINING CONTROL. LUCKILY THE TRAFFIC WAS MINIMAL NO ACCIDENT OR INJURIES OCCURRED. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET CHECKED OUT, CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS NOTHING BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE. MILEAGE OF VEHICLE DURING FAULT WAS 6380. SINCE THAT TIME SMALL OCCURRENCES HAVE TAKEN PLACE, SUCH AS AT A STOP LIGHT THE VEHICLE WANTS TO CREEP FORWARD ON ITS OWN. NOTHING EVER FOUND WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. SEEING THE NEWS REPORT AND READING THE COMPLAINTS ONLY CONFIRM OUR SUSPICION OF THIS DEFECTIVE VEHICLE AND IT WILL BE TRADED IN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA XRUNNER. THE CONTACT HEARD A WHISTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE THROW BEARING. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE FAILURE, BUT IT RECURRED A MONTH LATER. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY REPAIRED THE THROW BEARING AGAIN, BUT THE NOISE RECURRED A WEEK LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY DID NOT WANT TO REPLACE THE BEARING. IT WAS GREASED BECAUSE THE DEALER FELT THAT SINCE IT WAS NEW IT DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE BEARING WAS GREASED, THE NOISE RETURNED APPROXIMATELY TWO DAYS LATER. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH AND, AFTER IT WAS REPLACED, THE NOISE RETURNED TWO WEEKS LATER. HE DOES NOT HAVE A WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE AND CANNOT AFFORD A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. HE WANTS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED BY TOYOTA FOR FREE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 66,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
I AM FILING A COMPLAINT REGARDING THE TOYOTA ACCELERATOR ISSUE. I RECEIVED NOTICE THAT TOYOTA IS GOING TO DO A RECALL BASED ON THE FLOOR MATS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I FLOOR MATS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2006 TACOMA AND THE DAY I BROUGHT IT HOME THE ACCELERATOR STUCK AS I PULLED INTO MY GARAGE CAUSING ME TO SCRAP THE WALL AND CAUSED MINOR BODY DAMAGE. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE THE ACCELERATOR HAS STUCK. IT SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN I COME OVER A HILL AND AS I START DOWN THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO "REV" AND THE RPMS STAY UP EVEN IF I APPLY THE BRAKES. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA ABOUT THIS EVERYTIME I HAVE THE TRUCK IN FOR ROUTINE SERVICE AND I'M ALWAYS TOLD IT IS NOTHING. I KNOW TWO THINGS FOR SURE, IT IS NOT "NOTHING" AND IT IS NOT THE FLOOR MATS. AS INFORMATION THE FLOOR MATS ARE THE STANDARD MAT THAT CAME WITH THE TRUCK WHEN I BOUGHT IT NEW AND THEY ARE SECURED TO THE FLOOR. NTSB SHOULD NOT ACCEPT THAT THIS IS A FLOOR MAT PROBLEM. *TR
SUDDEN ACCELERATION FOR THE THIRD TIME IN THIS VEHICLE. DRIVING ON A MOUNTAINOUS ROAD ABOUT 30 MPH. TRUCK MOVED TO THE SIDE GOING UP AN INCLINE FOR MY HUSBAND TO PASS HIM. HE ACCELERATED AND THE GAS PEDAL "STUCK". APPLIED THE BRAKES WITH NO DISENGAGING OF THE GAS PEDAL. TURNED THE KEY OFF AND ON SO AS NOT TO LOSE THE POWER STEERING. THIS CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. WHEN WE WERE ON A STRAIGHTAWAY, HE TURNED THE KEY OFF AND FINALLY THE GAS PEDAL DISENGAGED. TWO TIMES PREVIOUSLY TOYOTA HAS REPLACED THE CRUISE CONTROL. THIS IS NOT A CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE. THIS IS A GAS PEDAL ISSUE. I WAS TOLD PREVIOUSLY THE MAT WAS UNDER THE GAS PEDAL. THIS IS HARDLY THE PROBLEM. THE BRAKES WERE AGAIN RED HOT WHEN MY HUSBAND TRIED TO STOP THE TRUCK. I HAVE EXPERIENCED A LURCHING PROBLEM IN MY 2006 SPORT 4 DOOR TACOMA. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, I REAR ENDED A VEHICLE CAUSING $1500 DAMAGE TO THE TACOMA AND $1200 TO THE OTHER VEHICLE. I ALSO HAD A WITNESS THAT SAW MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AFTER IMPACT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE ACCIDENT REPORTED TO TOYOTA CANADA AND THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION. A THIRD PARTY INVESTIGATOR/ENGINEERING WAS SENT TO CHECK THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NO ERROR CODES. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. TWO MONTHS LATER THE TRUCK LURCHED AGAIN AT AN INTERSECTION. THIS TIME I SHOVED THE TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL. I OBSERVED THE RPMS CLIMB TO 3000 RPM THEN DROP OFF. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP (NORTHSIDE TOYOTA) CHECKED THE VEHICLE OVER AND SAID THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM. NOTE: THE VEHICLE HAD ROUGHLY 10,000 KILOMETERS AT THAT TIME. I ALSO FOUND MYSELF RIDING THE BRAKES MORE THEN I HAVE EVER ON ANY VEHICLE I'VE OWNED. WE HAVE SINCE TRADED THE VEHICLE IN FOR A 2007 TACOMA THINKING THIS PROBLEM IS ONE OF A KIND ISSUE. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP WHY I WAS TRADING IT IN. WE NO LONGER TRUSTED THE 2006. THEY HAD NO QUALMS DOING THE TRADE, OBVIOUSLY THINKING THERE WAS NO ISSUE. I TOOK A MAJOR HIT FOR DEPRECIATION ON A TRUCK THAT HAD ONE OIL CHANGE. THAT 2006 IS STILL SITTING ON THEIR LOT. TO SAY THE LEAST I AM NOT PLEASED, BUT DON'T HAVE THE MEANS TO PURSUE THIS. ALSO THE STRESS GOT TO US. *JB
AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES UPON APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN IN A NORMAL MANNER, EVEN WHEN I APPLIED MORE PRESSURE. I PUT THE GEAR SELECTOR INTO NEUTRAL AND THE BRAKES STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE, HOWEVER, SPED UP FOR ANOTHER FEW SECONDS BEFORE IT SUDDENLY DROPPED TO IDLE SPEED. I HAVE NOT YET HAD A RECURRENCE OF THIS DANGEROUS INCIDENT. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV EXCESSIVELY HIGH AND CRASHED INTO A UTILITY POLE. THE GEAR WAS THEN PLACED INTO THE "DRIVE" POSITION. AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A PARKED TRAILER AND PUSHED THE TRAILER INTO ANOTHER PARKED VEHICLE. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY COLLISION SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE BODY DAMAGES. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION PERFORMED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. BRAKES SQUEAL WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY EVERY MORNING. THIS HAPPENS ONLY WHEN THE TRUCK IS USED THE FIRST TIME EVERY DAY. AFTER IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN IT IS FINE THE REST OF THE DAY. THE 2006 TACOMA HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE DAY 1 AND CURRENTLY HAS 52,000 MILES USE. VERY FRUSTRATING. *TR

THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING OCCURRED THAT BECAME CONSTANT AS THE PROBLEM WORSENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED WITH ANOTHER SERVICE DEALER. THE FUEL WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ACTIVATED AT THE PROPER VOLUME OF FUEL. THESE PROBLEMS HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER THE CARPETING WAS REPLACED DUE TO WATER LEAKING THROUGH THE FIREWALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE JUMPED OUT OF PARK AND INTO REVERSE. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THE TRUCK STALLED. UPDATED 12/18/06. *JB

THIS ISSUE IS REPEATABLE AND OCCURS UNDER TWO CIRCUMSTANCES. 1. WHEN VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY SET, AND THE "RESUME" FUNCTION IS USED WHEN ACTUAL SPEED IS GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 6MPH SLOWER THAN THE PREVIOUSLY SET SPEED, THE THROTTLE MOVES TO WIDE OPEN AND THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS TWO GEARS AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES VERY QUICKLY UNTIL IT EXCEEDS THE SET SPEED BY 5MPH AND THEN THE THROTTLE BACKS OFF AND THE TRANSMISSION UP-SHIFTS TO 5TH GEAR. 2. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SLOWED BY WIND OR MODERATE GRADE WHILE USING THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITS SIMILAR BEHAVIOR INDICATED ABOVE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MAINTAIN SET SPEED. THIS NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHEN MY PARENTS USED THIS VEHICLE. THEY HAD CLEARED ALL NEARBY TRAFFIC AND RESUMED THE SPEED CONTROL. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SO FAST THAT WHEN IT SOME LOOSE GRAVEL ON THE PAVED ROADWAY, THEY NEARLY LOST CONTROL. I HAD BROUGHT THIS REPEATABLE BEHAVIOR TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALER SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2006. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE BEHAVIOR IS NORMAL. I HAVE BEEN READING SOME FORUMS AND TALKED TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER LATELY AND I AM UNDER THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THESE TIRES HAVE BEEN CRACKING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE TIRES ARE GETTING REPLACED BY FIRESTONE DEALERS UNDER A DEFECT WARRANTY. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN DIRECTED TO CALL AN 800 NUMBER ON THE ISSUE (WHICH I CALLED) AND THEY ACTED/SAID THAT THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS ISSUE AND TOLD ME TO GO TO A BIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE DEALER. I WENT TO A DEALER IN TOWN AND THEY TOLD ME TO GO TO A FIRESTONE RETAILER. I'VE BEEN GOING ON THIS BIG RUN AROUND NOW FOR ABOUT A MONTH. WHEN DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS (ABOVE 50 MPH) THERE IS A WHINING COMING FROM THE DRIVETRAIN. I HAVE AN 06 TACOMA REG. CAB WITH 4X4 & 5 SPEED WITH LESS THAN 500 MILES. TRUCK HAS MADE THE NOISE SINCE PURCHASE DATE. SERVICE TECH THOUGHT NOISE WAS NORMAL OR MAY GO AWAY EVENTUALLY. I THEN TEST DROVE A DUPLICATE TRUCK OFF DEALER LOT WITH SERVICE TECH & THERE WAS NO WHINING. THEY THEN CONCEITED THAT IT WAS NOT NORMAL. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION, TRANSFER CASE & DRIVESHAFT WITH NO RESULTS. FORTUNATELY DEALER DOES RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM HOWEVER THEY CAN NOT GIVE A SOLUTION. DEALER HAS PROVIDED ME WITH LOANER CAR WHILE PROBLEM IS BEING WORKED, BUT THEY HAVE HAD THE TRUCK 24 DAYS OF THE APPROX. 70 DAYS I HAVE OWNED TRUCK. *JB

MY 2006 TACOMA (14K MILES) HAS A "LOUD" GRINDING NOISE THAT LASTS FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE SECOND AT START-UP.. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, AFTER NUMEROUS VISITS TO THE DEALER, AND ONE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT, THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THEY HEARD THE NOISE, AND THAT SEVERAL "OTHER" TACOMAS ON THE LOT MADE THE SAME NOISE. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE TOP OF THE ENGINE IS COMING OFF. THE NOISE APPEARS TO BE A RESULT OF A LIQUID MIGRATION OR FLOOD-BACK CONDITION OF LIQUID REFRIGERANT (INSTEAD OF VAPOR) BEING COMPRESSED BY THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR. TOYOTA EMPHATICALLY INSISTS THE NOISE IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE AND THAT NO FIXES ARE AVAILABLE NOW AND NONE ARE PLANNED. MY CONTENTION IS THAT IF THE A/C COMPRESSOR SEIZES DURING OPERATION, THIS WOULD RESULT IN THE LOSS OF THE ENGINE DRIVE BELT (SINGLE BELT SERPENTINE SYSTEM). IF THE BELT SEPARATES FROM THE ENGINE, THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM WOULD BECOME INOPERATIVE AND WOULD RESULT IN A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA 4X4 DBL CAB LONG BED TRD SPORT ($30,867.00 + TAX!) AND HAVE ENJOYED IT FOR JUST OVER A YEAR NOW. IT HAS 29,816 MILES AND HAS HAD ALL SERVICE DONE AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. WHILE DRIVING ON A PAVED ROAD I WENT OVER A VERY SMALL BUMP, AND THE LEFT FRONT SIDE OF MY TRUCK DROPPED ABOUT 3" INCHES CAUSING TIRE TO RUB FENDER. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT AND COULD SEE THAT THE COIL OVER SHOCK BROKE OFF NEAR THE BOTTOM. I TOOK PHOTOS AND BROUGHT BOTH THE PHOTOS AND TRUCK TO MY LOCAL DEALER. THE 2 SERVICE PEOPLE AT THE COUNTER BOTH SAID IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THEN THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD THEM THAT I MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. I TOLD THEM I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING AND IT WENT DOWN WHEN I WENT OVER A VERY SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD. NOT A BIG BUMP! HE AGAIN SAID "NO" HE WOULD NOT WARRANTY IT. TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA , CAB. CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONED. WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH THE VEHICLE SURGED AT 5100 RPMS, AND DOWN SHIFTED BEFORE ADDING FUEL. THE FAILURE ALMOST CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A BARRIER. A PRODUCT ENGINEER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, AND STATED THAT IT PERFORMED AS DESIGNED AND ACCORDING TO THE CONTACT THE DESIGN WAS INCORRECT. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED SINCE AUGUST 2006. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR SHOULD LOCK AFTER ENGAGING THE GEARS. THE DEALER STATED IT WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY, AND THEY'RE UNABLE TO REPROGRAM IT TO MAKE IT AUTO LOCK. FRONT SUSPENSION INSTABILITY, I HAVE REPLACED THE TIRES TWO TIMES, AND HAVE REPLACED THE OEM SHOCKS FOR THE BILSTEIN "OEM TRD" BUT THE VEHICLE BEHAVES LIKE THE FRONT SWAY BAR OR THE RACK & PININION ARE LOOSE. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER COUNTLESS TIMES BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO NOTICE THE NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION OR ANYTHING WRONG. IT IS MY PERCEPTION THAT A DESIGN FLAW OR A DEFECTIVE PART OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION OR RACK & PINION HAVE TO BE CAUSING ALL OF THE INSTABILITY. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN OCT OF 2005, AND STARTED TO TAKE FREQUENT TRIPS TO ARIZONA USING HIGHWAY 40 ABOUT NINE MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED IT. SINCE ITS NOT A DENSELY POPULATED FREEWAY, I NORMALLY SET THE CRUISE CONTROL BETWEEN 65-70MPH. SOMETIMES I NEED TO DECELERATE BY APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL, TO CHANGE LANES AND LET SOMEONE PASS, AND WHEN I GO TO RESUME TO MY PREVIOUSLY SET SPEED, THE TACOMA DOWN-SHIFTS AT LEAST ONE TO TWO GEARS, REVS RPMS HIGH, AND ACCELERATES, NORMALLY PASSING THE ORIGINAL SET SPEED. NORMALLY, I DON'T RESUME THE CRUISE CONTROL UNTIL I AM WITHIN 3-5 MPH OF THE RATE OF SPEED IT WAS PREVIOUSLY SET FOR, BUT NEVERTHELESS, IT WILL DOWNSHIFT, ACCELERATE AND PASS THE SET SPEED. THIS IS NOT HAPPENING ON AN UPGRADE, BUT ON A REASONABLY LEVEL STRETCH OF ROAD. THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES THIS EVERY TIME, NO MATTER THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
APPLIED BRAKE PEDAL AS I APPROACHED AN INTERSECTION WITH A RED LIGHT AND COULD NOT STOP, CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO REAR END A STOPPED VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE ALSO PICKED UP ACCELERATION WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE A SECOND TIME. I HAD TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF IN ORDER TO STOP IT FROM CLIMBING UP THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME. POLICE OFFICER AT THE SCENE VERIFIED THIS OBSERVATION AFTERWARD INDICATING A MECHANICAL PROBLEM AND NOTED SAME ON THE POLICE REPORT. MY BRAND NEW VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED LESS THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE THIS ACCIDENT, TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE ACCIDENT AND REMAINS THERE AWAITING AN INSPECTION BY THE MANUFACTURER. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT 20 MPH ON A CITY STREET, THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE RESULTING IN A REAR IMPACT CRASH. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT, AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THERE WAS MINIMAL DAMAGE TO FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE WAS NOTIFIED, AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE FLOOR MAT HAD SLIPPED OUT OF THE FLOORBOARD RETAINER CLIP AND TOUCHED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAUSING THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. TOYOTA SENT ME A NOTICE LAST YEAR CALLED A "LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN" FOR "CERTAIN 2005 THROUGH 2008 MODEL YEAR TACOMA VEHICLES CORROSION-RESISTANT COMPOUND APPLICATION TO THE VEHICLE'S FRAME". THE NOTICE SAID THAT THESE TACOMAS' FRAMES WERE RUSTING MORE THAN USUAL DUE TO INSUFFICIENT CORROSION PROTECTION. THE CAMPAIGN APPLIED ONLY TO COLD WEATHER STATES LIKE MINNESOTA. IT WENT ON TO SAY THAT I SHOULD BRING MY TACOMA TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND HAVE THE FRAME INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE. JAN. 2015: I BROUGHT MY TACOMA TO MAPLEWOOD TOYOTA IN MINNESOTA. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE FRAME WAS INDEED DAMAGED WITH HOLES AND PERFORATIONS ALREADY PRESENT. THEY SAID TOYOTA WOULD REPLACE THE FRAME AND THAT IT WOULD TAKE SEVERAL MONTHS FOR THE FRAME TO ARRIVE, PLUS TIME TO REPLACE IT. WE WERE GOING TO MOVE TO COLORADO IN THE SPRING SO I DECIDED TO HAVE THE WORK DONE THERE. MAPLEWOOD TOYOTA SAID THAT WAS FINE. WE MOVED TO LOVELAND, COLORADO ON JUNE 19, 2015. I THEN CONTACTED THE TOYOTA NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO THEM AND ASKED IF I COULD BRING MY TACOMA TO PEDERSEN TOYOTA IN FORT COLLINS, COLORADO, WHICH IS RIGHT NEXT TO LOVELAND. THEY SAID OK. THEIR FINDINGS WERE THE SAME: DAMAGED FRAME WITH HOLES AND PERFORATIONS. THEY ALSO SAID THE TRUCK WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME A RENTAL FOR THE 5 MONTHS. BUT THEN THEY SAID THAT WHILE THEY WOULD PAY FOR THE FRAME, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR ANY RUSTED-ON PARTS THEY WOULD BREAK, AND I SHOULD EXPECT TO PAY 2 TO 3 THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THAT! I CALLED THE NATIONAL TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING. THEY ALSO SAID TOYOTA IS NOT ADMITTING TO DEFECTIVE CORROSION PROTECTION, AND THAT IT ISN'T A RECALL. I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH 43,800 MILES ON IT. I HAVE TAKEN THE TACOMA IN TO VALLEY HIGH TOYOTA IN VICTORVILLE NUMEROUS TIMES FOR A TERRIBLE BRAKING PROBLEM THAT THEY ARE NOW RECOGNIZING ON THE PRIUS. THE TRUCK DOES NOT STOP WHEN DRIVING OVER ANY UNEVEN SURFACE. WHEN WE WENT TO VALLEY HIGH TOYOTA WE WERE TOLD THAT IT IS ABS BRAKES TRYING NOT TO LOCK UP. IN FACT, THE BRAKES DON'T WORK AT ALL IN THIS SITUATION WHICH COULD LEAD TO A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. FURTHERMORE, THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE MOTOR MOUNTS AS WELL. IN 2007 WE TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR ITS FIRST MOTOR MOUNT PROBLEM, IT SEEMS THAT BOTH MOTOR MOUNTS WERE STRETCHED BEYOND REPAIR AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. WE THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS OVER, BUT IN NOV. 2009 THE DRIVER SIDE MOTOR MOUNT SNAPPED COMPLETELY THROUGH. THE TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN ROUGHLY AND THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE NEW DESIGNS PUT INTO PLACE ON THE 2007 TACOMA MODELS. THE MECHANIC WORKING ON THE TRUCK SAID HE COULD TELL THE TRUCK HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN HARD AND STATED THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. WE HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT SINCE THE FIRST MOTOR MOUNT PROBLEM THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SHIFTING EXTREMELY ROUGH. WE'VE ASKED VALLEY HIGH TOYOTA ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY HAVE SAID THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. OUR WARRANTY IS ALMOST UP AND I'M WORRIED WE COULD HAVE A TRANSMISSION FAILURE WITHIN THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS. MY DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS TRUCK, AND I NO LONGER FEEL IT'S SAFE FOR HER TO DRIVE. I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH 2700 MILES, UPON SEEING (2) OF MY TIRES WITH LARGE BULGES ON THE EXTERIOR SIDEWALLS I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THAT THE DEFECTIVE TIRES BE REPLACED UNDER THE WARRANTY. UPON TEARING THE TIRE DOWN THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY THE LARGE CUTS IN THE BEADS. AFTER CALLING THE DEALERSHIP THEY STILL REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING. THESE TIRES AND TRUCK ARE THE SUBJECT OF A TOYOTA SAFETY RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 06V-061).THE RECALL STATES THAT IT IS ILLEGAL TO SELL TRUCK WITHOUT INSPECTING FIRST, THIS WAS NOT DONE. IT STATES THAT TOYOTA WOULD CONTACT OWNERS, THIS WAS NOT DONE. IT STATES THAT UPON RETURNING SAID TRUCK THAT ALL TIRES WOULD BE REMOVED AND INSPECTED, BAD TIRES WOULD BE REPLACED @ TOYOTAS EXPENSE,NON OF THIS WAS DONE. INSTEAD I WAS ACCUSED OF DAMAGING THE TIRES BY HITTING CURBS YET FIRESTONE AND GOODYEAR CANNOT FIND ANY SUCH EVIDENCE (BECAUSE IT NEVER HAPPENED AND DOES NOT EXIST). THE SERVICE MANAGER THEN OFFERED TO WORK WITH ME ON REPLACEMENT TIRES.(THERE GOING TO SELL ME REPLACEMENT TIRES? DAMAGED BY TOYOTA???) THESE TIRES WERE DAMAGED BY TOYOTA AT THE TOYOTA FACTORY UPON INSTALLATION AS NOTED IN THE TOYOTA SAFETY RECALL. I CURRENTLY AS OF FRIDAY HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I HAVE NO RECOURSE BUT TO WAIT NO MORE THAN 2 BUSINESS DAYS FOR SOMEONE TO CONTACT ME, MAYBE IN 4 DAYS?? WHILE I DRIVE AROUND IN AN UNSAFE TRUCK, OR HAVE NO TRUCK AND NO WAY TO EARN A LIVING(I NEED A TRUCK THAT'S WHY I BOUGHT ONE)*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES SQUEAL WHEN DRIVING IN REVERSE. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD. THE TOYOTA DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE ENGINE SIZE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 500.
SUN VISOR DROOPS DOWN WHEN PUSHED FORWARD. CAUSES LOSS OF VISION AT DISTANCE. BLOCKS OVERHEAD TRAFFIC LIGHTS. BLOCKS VIEW DOWN TO BELOW REAR VIEW MIRROR. DEALER REPLACED TWICE - SAME RESULTS. TOYOTA REP SAID THIS IS TYPICAL FOR THIS VEHICLE AND IS A DESIGN PROBLEM. NEITHER DEALER (I-10 TOYOTA) NOR TOYOTA OFFERED SOLUTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V092000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER REPAIR, ANOTHER WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE WHICH WARNING LIGHT THAT WAS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS ILLUMINATED SINCE THE TIME OF PURCHASE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED IT MAY BE RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER, BUT THEY REFUSED TO INSPECT AND REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ONLY TURNED OFF THE AIR BAG LIGHT. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA 2.7 L MANUAL TRANS WHERE THE GAS PEDAL STICKS, TOYOTA CLAIMS ITS THE FLOOR MAT. NO WAY THE FLOOR MAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS ABOUT 5% OF THE TIME, WHEN REMOVING YOUR FOOT FROM THE PETAL, IT WILL STAY IN THE OPEN POSITION FOR APROX 10 SEC BEFORE THE RPM'S SLOW DOWN. I HAVE OWN THE TRUCK NEW AND DID TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP BACK IN 2006. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE GAS PEDAL TO STICK AND DID NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM BACK THEN. THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK, I AM GLAD ITS A MANUAL TRANS, ALL I HAVE TO DO IS PUSH IN THE CLUTCH WHEN IT HAPPENS. *TR
SECOND OCCURRENCE: MAY 26, 2006 MERGING ONTO MAIN HIGHWAY INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON. ACCELERATED AND GAS PEDAL STUCK. TRUCK CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE, COULD NOT DISENGAGE PEDAL. BRAKE PEDAL WAS ALSO LOCKED AND COULD NOT DEPRESS IT. AFTER NUMEROUS TRIES, BRAKE PEDAL FINALLY ENGAGED AND GAS PEDAL DISENGAGED. CALLED TOYOTA DEALER AGAIN AND THIS TIME THEY ARE REPLACING THE NON-FACTORY INSTALLED CRUISE CONTROL. ONE WEEK PRIOR TO INCIDENT, THEY REPLACED COMPUTER SYSTEM, SOMETHING IN THE GAS PEDAL ITSELF AND THE CRUISE CONTROL COMPUTER. *JB
REAR-END WHINES BETWEEN 50 & 65 MPH, GOING UP GRADE. (AUTO TRANS.REG. CAB, 2.7 ENGINE) I TOOK IT TO MY TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS ROAD NOISE. WELL I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ROAD NOISE & A MECHANICAL NOISE. I JUST WANT THIS TO GO ON RECORD. THANK YOU. *NM
2006 TOYOTA TACOMA 4DR, CREW CAB........SUN VISORS FAIL TO REMAIN IN PLACE WHEN PUT IN THE SUN-BLOCKING POSITION....DRIVER(SELF) UNABLE TO SEE IF PLACED IN WORKING POSITION.......TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP, NO REPAIR DONE, STATING THIS IS DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURERS PROBLEM AND TOYOTA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL OR PERMANENT FIXTURE/SOLUTION. *JB
