THE CONTACT CALLED PAT LOBB'S TOYOTA OF MCKINNEY (LOCATED AT 3350 S CENTRAL EXPY, MCKINNEY, TX 75070, (214) 544-8696) AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,816.

2006 TACOMA 120,000 MILES IS LEAKING ANTIFREEZE INTO THE ENGINE. PERSONAL MECHANICS SMELLED BURNING ANTIFREEZE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST AND SAW IT LEAKING. TELLS US WE COULD BLOW THE HEAD GASKET AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I NOTICED ABOUT 3 DAYS AGO HAS MY TRUCK WARMED UP IT WOULD SHUDDER ALMOST STALL OUT WHILE DRIVING.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1812100777. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

I PURCHASED A FRAM PH7317 FILTER & 5W-30 CASTROL OIL ON 5/9/14 FROM AUTOZONE TO DO AN OIL CHANGE FOR MY '06 TOYOTA TACOMA REGULAR CAB PRERUNNER. MY TRUCK WAS FINE UNTIL 6 MONTHS & 3K MILES LATER, ON 11/7/14, WHEN I EXPERIENCED A FAILURE SUCH THAT THE FILTER CAME OFF MY TRUCK GOING 30MPH & OIL SPEWED ONTO THE ROAD.I PULLED OVER ABOUT 200 YARDS AFTER THE FILTER CAME OFF JUST AS THE OIL CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I FOUND THE OIL FILTER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.THE GASKET WAS ATTACHED IN FINE CONDITION, & NEITHER FACE NOR BODY LOOKED DEFORMED. THE FILTER HAD MINOR SCRATCHES.MY FATHER CAME WITH TOOLS & OIL.THE CAR'S MALE THREADS WERE GOOD. ASSUMING I ERRED & FORGOT TO FULLY TIGHTEN THE FILTER, IT LOOSENED OVER TIME, & ITS CONDITION, I CLEANED THEN THREADED THE SAME FILTER ON & SNUGGED IT DOWN WITH A WRENCH. I FILLED THE ENGINE WITH OIL.MY FATHER WAS WATCHING THE FILTER AREA UNDER THE CAR FOR DRIPPING OIL WHILE I FILLED, BUT THERE WAS NONE. I IDLED THE CAR WHILE MY FATHER & I CHECKED FOR DRIPPING OIL BUT THERE WAS NONE.AT THIS POINT, IT SEEMED REASONABLE THAT THE FILTER WOULD NOT COME OFF & OIL WOULD NOT LEAK. AS A PRECAUTION, MY FATHER DROVE BEHIND ME.I STARTED THE CAR & MADE A U-TURN IN THE ROAD. AT SOME POINT IN THE TURN, THE FILTER CAME OFF SO I IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE OIL FILTER WAS CRUMPLED. IT IS OF MY FATHER'S THEORY (HE IS A MECHANICAL ENGINEER BY TRADE) & I THAT THE FILTER FAILED CAUSING PRESSURE TO BUILD-UP.THIS PRESSURE BUILD-UP CAUSED THE FILTER TO UNSCREW ITSELF.THE MALE THREADS ON THE ENGINE SIDE WERE GOOD. I HAVE SINCE INSTALLED A BOSCH FILTER WITH CASTROL OIL & THE TRUCK DRIVES FINE.THE FILTER WAS NOT DOUBLE GASKETED.EVEN IF IT WERE, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN OIL LEAKING WHEN I IDLED THE TRUCK.IT WAS NOT FOULED OIL, BECAUSE THE OIL WAS REPLACED.IT WAS NOT AN IMPROPERLY TIGHTENED FILTER, BECAUSE THE OIL FILTER FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER DRIVING OFF & THERE WAS NO OIL DRIPPING DURING REPLACEMENT OR IDLE. *TR
NOTICED A LOUD RUBBING NOISE FROM THE RADIATOR FAN HITTING THE SHROUD IN REVERSE. OPENED THE HOOD TO OBSERVE THAT ENTIRE ENGINE WAS LEANING TO THE DRIVERS SIDE. NOTICED FROM UNDER VEHICLE THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE MOTOR MOUNT WAS COLLAPSED INTO THE FRAME BY APPROXIMATELY 3/4 OF AN INCH. FURTHER OBSERVATION INDICATED THAT THE MOUNT APPEARED TO BREAK AT THE WELD AND THEN TEAR THE FRAME IN FRONT AND BEHIND OF THE WELDS FOR THE MOTOR MOUNT. LOOKED ON-LINE FOR SIMILAR OCCURRENCES AND DISCOVERED THAT MANY OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITHOUT ANY RESOLUTION FROM THE MANUFACTURER (TOYOTA). OTHERS ON SIMILAR SITES OBSERVED THAT BETWEEN THE 2006 MODEL YEAR (MINE) AND 2007 MODEL YEARS TOYOTA ADDED A REINFORCEMENT TO THE MOTOR MOUNT INDICATING THAT THEY KNEW OF A PROBLEM BUT WERE NOT WILLING TO ALERT OWNERS TO THE PROBLEM. I HAVE PICTURES OF MY BROKEN FRAME AND A 2007 AND LATER MODEL FRAME TO SHOW WHERE THE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE REINFORCED. *TR

THE FRAME AT THE RF MOTOR MOUNT BROKE AND THE ENGINE DROPPED SO THAT THE FAN IS HITTING THE SHROUD OF THE RADIATOR, THERE SEEMS TO BE A WEAKNESS IN THE WELD LOCATION THAT THE MANUFACTURER CHANGED ON THE 2007 FRAME IN THIS LOCATION OF THE MOTOR MOUNT AREA. THE DEALER/MANUFACTURER TOYOTA IS NOT WARRANTING THIS DEFECT , THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET, I HOPE THEY ALSO FILED WITH THE NHTSA. *TR

IN LATE MAY 2009 WHILE ON HIGHWAY 50 IN SACRAMENTO JUST EAST OF THE 50/80 INTERCHANGE IN GOOD WEATHER (DRY AND CLEAR) MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA'S GAS PEDAL BURIED ITSELF TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE WENT TO MAXIMUM ACCELERATION. BRAKING ONLY HAD A SLIGHT INITIAL EFFECT AND THEN OVERHEATED AND FADED. AFTER A LUCKY 4 MILES I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND THE PROBLEM RESOLVED. THIS BEGAN AROUND 60MPH AND MAXED AROUND 107. DURING THE 4 MILES I ACTIVATED AND DEACTIVATED MY CRUISE SEVERAL TIMES, TAPPED THE BRAKES, REACHED DOWN AND PULLED ON THE PEDAL AND THE MAT, THE RECENT TOYOTA EXPLANATIONS OF STICKING PEDAL AND MAT ISSUES DID NOT APPLY AND I FIND THEM LUDICROUS.. IT IS AN EERIE FEELING TO HAVE YOUR ACCELERATOR LEAVE YOUR FOOT ON ITS OWN. TRUCK HAD 36,500 MILES, NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT, WAS IN GOOD REPAIR WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND WAS STOCK EXCEPT FOR A SHELL. WHILE OWNED THE TRUCK HAD EXPERIENCED THE AT STOP SURGE DESCRIBED BY MANY OTHERS WHERE IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE TAPPED THE BACK OF THE TRUCK WHILE WAITING IN AN INTERSECTION. LOVED THE TRUCK UNTIL THAT DAY, AND RESPECTED TOYOTA. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON ANOTHER ROAD OR WITH HEAVIER TRAFFIC IT WOULD HAVE HAD A DIFFERENT OUTCOME. TRADED THE VEHICLE TWO WEEKS LATER AT GREAT LOSS OF EQUITY. SOMEONE ELSE NOW OWNS THIS VEHICLE. *TR

IT IS NOT IDLE SPEED INCREASE ASSOCIATED WITH COMPRESSOR TURN ON, AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO MOVE FORWARD- NO OTHER VEHICLE THAT I HAVE HAD HAS DONE THIS. THIS IS VERY LIKELY A SOFTWARE ISSUE WITH THE ECU AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IN THIS MANNER. YOUR PREVIOUS INVESTIGATION MAY NOT HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO FIND A SOFTWARE DEFECT, WHICH BY NATURE, CAN BE INTERMITTENT AND DIFFICULT TO FIND. RESEARCH INTO THE CODE IS REQUIRED. HE DENIED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE CARPET/GAS PEDAL FIX IS NOT ADDRESSING THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. IT HAS UNCOMMANDED ENGINE SURGES. IT IS MOST NOTABLE AT A STOP. ONCE THE VEHICLE STOPS ENGINE RPM REDUCES TO 500 RPMS AND SECONDS LATER IT SURGES TO 800RPM. I NOTICED THIS WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR,BUT THOUGHT THAT WAS "NORMAL". IN 2008 IT CAUSED ME TO HAVE A MINOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AND REALIZED IT WAS NOT NORMAL. AT HIGHER RPMS ABOVE 35 MPH THE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE IT IS IN A HIGH GEAR AS IT QUICKLY REDUCES SPEED WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE PEDAL. AGAIN I THOUGHT THIS NORMAL PRIOR TO THIS CURRENT ROUND OF RECALLS. I WAS AMAZED THE TACOMA'S ARE NOT BEING RECALLED. SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG WITH THE ENGINE COMPUTER. *TR
