TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK. THE CONTACT'S FOOT SLIPPED OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE LEFT AND CRASH INTO A GUARDRAIL. THE CONTACT DID NOT DISCLOSE IF A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I RECEIVED A RECALL ABOUT POSSIBLE REAR SPRING BREAKAGE DUE TO PRESSURE CORROSION. THE DESCRIPTION ADDRESSED THE POSSIBILITY OF A PUNCTURED GAS TANK OR DAMAGED BRAKE LINE. IT IS NOW LATE APRIL OF 2015 AND ACCORDING TO TOYOTA'S WEB SITE THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX IT. WHEN I CONTACT THE DEALER, ALL THEY SAY IS WE ARE POWERLESS UNTIL WE HEAR FROM TOYOTA. I AM CONCERNED THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO FIGURE OUT A SOLUTION. SURELY COMPANY WITH TOYOTA'S STAFF AND RESOURCES COULD HAVE COME UP WITH SOMETHING BY NOW. *TR
THIS TOYOTA TACOMA SLID DOWNGRADE ON BLACK ICE AND THERE WAS NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT DESPITE AN END-FOR-END, BACKWARDS, DOWNHILL FLIP INITIATED AT 40 MPH, THAT CAUSED THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE TO IMPACT ON THE FRONT BUMPER, DISLOCATING ALL FRONT BUMPER ATTACHMENTS FROM THE FRONT CROSS MEMBER OF THE VEHICLE'S FRAME. THIS VEHICLE IS AT A SALVAGE YARD AWAITING ACTION BY THE INSURANCE CARRIER... UPDATED 12/17/14 *BF
MY TACOMA TRUCK EXPERIENCED AN UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION ISSUE AT AN INTERSECTION STOP SIGN. THE TRUCK WENT ABOUT 8 FT PAST THE STOP SIGN AS I PUSHED HARD ON THE BRAKE. WITH THE VEHICLE STOPPED THE RIGHT REAR TIRE CONTINUED TO SPIN FOR A FEW SECONDS AND LEFT A BLACK SKID MARK IN THE ROAD. AS QUICK AS THE INCIDENT STARTED THE TRUCK RETURNED TO A NORMAL IDLE. THIS WAS THE LAST OF 3 INCIDENTS: 1) APRIL 20, 2013 2) NOV. 1 2014 3) AS STATED ABOVE. TOYOTA CLAIMS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY TRUCK. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I HAVE HAD THREE SEPARATE INCIDENTS OF LEAF SPRINGS BREAKING. IT IS ALWAYS THE CENTER LEAF SPRING - ONCE ON THE LEFT AND TWICE ON THE RIGHT. I REPAIRED TWO SPRINGS PRIOR TO THE RECALL, AND SUBMITTED A REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT TO TOYOTA, WHICH THEY DENIED. I JUST HAD A THIRD LEAF SPRING BREAK. I USE MY TRUCK FOR HAULING MATERIAL ON MY FARM AND CANNOT DO SO WITH A BROKEN LEAF SPRING. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN PROBLEM, AND NOT A CORROSION ISSUE AS THE LEAF SPRING THAT BROKE THIS THIRD TIME WAS REPAIRED LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO. IT HAS BEEN FOUR MONTHS SINCE THE INITIAL RECALL AND TOYOTA STILL HAS NO DATE WHEN REPLACEMENT PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. WE OWN A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA. IT WAS BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION LATE OCTOBER 2014, THAT ONE OF THE LEAF SPRINGS WAS BROKEN ON THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT BOTH LEAF SPRINGS WERE BROKEN. FITZGERALD TOYOTA - WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, SAID THAT THE LEAF SPRINGS WERE BEING 'RECALLED'. WE RECEIVED OUR NOTICE OF A RECALL FROM TOYOTA MID TO LATE NOVEMBER 2014. I HAVE CALLED FITZGERALD TOYOTA SEVERAL TIMES, AND ALSO HAVE BEEN ON THE PHONE WITH PERSONNEL FROM TOYOTA IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, INFORMING THEM OF OUR SITUATION - BEING BOTH LEAF SPRINGS BROKEN/NOT FUNCTIONAL. IN FEBRUARY OF 2015, I TALKED WITH THE CALIFORNIA OFFICE OF TOYOTA ASKING WHEN THE LEAF SPRINGS WOULD BE AVAILABLE, AS WE ARE FEARFUL OF IT DOING MORE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO FIX THEM PROBLEM, HOWEVER, TO DATE - APRIL 2015...NO LEAF SPRINGS ARE AVAILABLE. CALIFORNIA CALLED FITZGERALD TOYOTA TO HAVE THEM DO A SHORT TERM REMEDY BY PLACING AN 'OLD SET' OF LEAF SPRINGS ON THE TRUCK, AND WHEN THE REMEDIED SPRINGS WERE AVAILABLE, THEY COULD BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THERE ARE NO OLD OR NEW LEAF SPRINGS ANYWHERE!!!! THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX OUR PROBLEM!!!! PENNSYLVANIA LAW REQUIRES MOTOR VEHICLES TO PASS INSPECTION YEARLY...OUR VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION...WHAT ARE WE TO DO?? THIS ISN'T OUR FAULT, IT'S TOYOTA'S PROBLEM, WITH NO REMEDY. WHEN OUR TRUCK DOESN'T PASS INSPECTION, WHAT ARE WE TO DO??? IT IS COMING ON 5 MONTHS, AND I BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA STARTED TO LOOK INTO THE RECALL IN SEPTEMBER 2014. HOW LONG SHOULD A CONSUMER WAIT?? THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. THERE ARE LOCAL COMPANIES THAT MAKE LEAF SPRINGS...WHY ISN'T TOYOTA DOING ALL THAT THEY CAN DO TO REMEDY THE SITUATION?? THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE CHEMICAL USED IN THE WINDSHIELD AREA DID NOT ALLOW THE SEALANT TO SET AND CAUSED THE GLASS NOT TO BE SECURELY ATTACHED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE GIVEN. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I CALLED TOYOTA IN FEBRUARY 2014 TO COMPLAIN OF ROUGH RIDING TRUCK. WAS TOLD MY TRUCK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND NOTHING TOYOTA WAS WILLING TO COVER. IN OCTOBER 2014 I CALLED TOYOTA TO REPORT MY LEAF SPRINGS HAD BROKE AND NEEDED REPLACED. WAS TOLD TOYOTA WOULD NOT COVER REPAIRS AND THAT I WAS RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. SHORTLY AFTER I MADE THE REPAIR, TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL OF THE LEAF SPRINGS. I HAVE BEEN BATTLING WITH THEM TO BE REIMBUSED SINCE LATE 2014. TODAY WHILE SPEAKING WITH SUPERVISOR ON DUTY AT TOYOTA, LUIS CARRILLO, I WAS INFORMED TOYOTA KNEW OF THE RECALL IN SEPTEMBER 2014, SO WHEN I CALLED IN OCTOBER 2014, TOYOTA FRAUDULENTLY TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COSTS AND I WAS RESPONSIBLE. THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD TODAY, NOBODY DOES THE RIGHT THING UNLESS THE GOVERNMENT MAKES THEM. STILL TODAY TOYOTA WILL NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR THE LEAF SPRINGS. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO STOP THEM FROM CONTINUING THEIR FRAUDULENT WAYS THAT LEAVES AMERICANS AND THEIR FAMILY IN DANGER?

IN JUNE OF 2014 I WENT TO GET AN MA STATE SAFETY INSPECTION STICKER AND WAS TOLD AT THE SULLIVAN TIRE AUTO CENTER IN RAYNHAM, MA THAT ONE OF THE LEAF SPRINGS ON MY 2008 TACOMA WAS FRACTURED AND I COULD NOT GET A SAFETY INSPECTION STICKER. I WENT TO COPELAND TOYOTA, IN BROCKTON, MA, (WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE) AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BROKEN SPRING WAS DUE TO OLD AGE. I THEN WENT BACK TO SULLIVAN TIRE AND HAD THEM REPLACE THE LEAF SPRINGS ON MY TRUCK. THEN ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2014, I RECEIVED AN INTERIM RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA SAYING THAT THE LEAF SPRINGS ON MY TRUCK COULD FRACTURE. THE NHTSA REFERENCE ID IS 14V604. WHEN I CALLED COPELAND TOYOTA TO GET REIMBURSED FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE LEAF SPRINGS THEY SAID IT WAS TOYOTA'S PROBLEM. I CALLED TOYOTA IN TORRANCE, CA SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS TOLD I HAD TO WAIT FOR A SECOND NOTICE (REMEDY) BEFORE I COULD BE CONSIDERED FOR REIMBURSEMENT. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST AN ENTIRE YEAR AND I AM STILL WAITING FOR A SECOND NOTICE (REMEDY) LETTER TO FIND OUT HOW I CAN SUBMIT THE DOCUMENTS I HAVE FOR REIMBURSEMENT (PAID INVOICE FROM SULLIVAN TIRE AND CANCELLED CHECK FROM MY BANK FOR THE WORK THAT WAS DONE). I HAVE WAITED PATIENTLY FOR THE SECOND LETTER TO COME AND I THINK 12 MONTHS IS FAR TOO LONG FOR ME TO WAIT TO GET SOME INFORMATION FROM TOYOTA REGARDING HOW I CAN GET REIMBURSED FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FRACTURED SPRING. I TOOK MY TACOMA TO MY DEALER ON JUNE 16, 2016 TO ADDRESS THE RECALL 14V-604. AFTER INSPECTING THE TRUCK, I WAS TOLD THAT PARTS WOULD BE ITHERE IN TWO WEEKS. CALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF JULY AND WAS TOLD PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER. THEN CALLED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AT END OF JULY AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD NO TARGET DATE. THE RECALL ORIGINATED IN SEPTEMBER 2014 AND OVER A YEAR TO REACH A REMEDY. FORMAL RECALL BEGAN IN JANUARY 2016. IT HAS BEEN THREE MONTHS SINCE THE INITIAL INSPECTION WITHOUT RESOLUTION.

CO-INCIDENTALLY, WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF NOTICE MY 2008 TACOMA HAD TWO COMPONENTS THAT HAVE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. THESE COMPONENTS ARE LOCATED NEXT TO THE FRAME THAT TOYOTA HAS STATED AS HAVING CORROSION ISSUES. THE TWO COMPONENTS THAT HAVE FAILED DUE TO BEING ROTTED OUT AS DESCRIBED BY MY INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1)POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION AND 2)THE FREON SUCTION LINE TO THE AIR CONDITIONER. I CONTACTED TOYOTA MOTOR SALES ABOUT THIS, BUT THEY ARE REFUSING TO COVER FOR ANY OF THE REPAIRS. I WAS INFORMED WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THAT I WAS BEING SOLD A VEHICLE THAT WOULD LAST FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES WITH NO MAJOR ISSUES. TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGES THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH 2005-2011 TACOMAS AND STATED THIS CONDITION WAS COVERED UNDER A "WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM" AND THE DEAL WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM,TOOK IT BACK,THE DEALER DECIDED THE POWERSTEERING RACK WAS THE PROBLEM AND COST FOR THE RACK WAS ABOUT $1400.00. I DECIDED TO CHECK INTERNET TO SEE IF THIS PROBLEM WAS COMMON. I FOUND IT WAS ,THE UNIVERSAL JOINT ON THE STEERING SHAFT AT THE BLOCK IS NOT PROTECTED FROM WEATHER AND IS PRONE TO RUST IT IS A SEALED JOINT AND CANNOT BE LUBED. I SPRAYED THE UNIVERSAL JOINT WITH RUST BLASTER WHICH LOOSEN THE JOINT UP, I THEN SPRAYED A WATER PROOF SILICONE SPRAY ON IT. WORKS LIKE NEW. THIS IS NOT ONLY A SAFETY PROBLEM BUT A FINICAL PROBLEM AND IS AN EASY FIX FOR TOYOTA.

RECENTLY I RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT THE COMPANY IS RECALLING ALL LIKE VEHICLES TO ADD CORROSION RESISTANT MATERIALS TO THE FRAME. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE COMPANY THEY DENIED THE TWO INCIDENTS WERE SIMILAR AND TOOK UMBRAGE THAT I WOULD SUGGEST SUCH. NO ONE I HAVE SPOKEN TO HAS EVER SEEN SPRINGS BREAK IN THIS MANNER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN USED TO TOW HEAVY OBJECTS NOR TAKEN OFF ROAD SO THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
