I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK IN THE PARKING LOT OF A SHOPPING CENTER. AS I WAS GOING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION THE STEERING COLUMN FELL DOWN CAUSING ME TO BE UNABLE TO TURN CAUSING A WRECK WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL NOT PAY FOR REPAIRING THE STEERING COLUMN. TOYOTA HAS BEEN JERKING ME AROUND FOR 3 MONTHS. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN REPAIRED AS FAR AS BODY WORK BUT TOYOTA TELLS ME THAT I WILL RECEIVE A LETTER WITH THEIR DETERMINATION AS TO WHETHER THEY WILL REPAIR THE STEERING COLUMN. 4 WEEKS AGO THEY TOLD ME THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A LETTER. I AM STILL WAITING. WHEN I CALL THE PERSON IN CHARGE OF MY CASE AT TOYOTA (CASEY) HE NEVER RETURNS MY CALLS. MY CASE NUMBER IS 1603142032. CASEY'S NUMBER IS 800-331-4331.
I HAVE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED 2 SEPARATE OCCURRENCES OF SUDDEN UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION IN MY 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE FIRST INSTANCE WAS ON FEBRUARY 25, 2016 AT APPROXIMATELY 12:50 P.M. I WAS SLOWING TO STOP AT A MAJOR INTERSECTION BEHIND A VEHICLE. IN THE LAST SEVERAL FEET PRIOR TO STOPPING, I BEGAN BREAKING WITH MY FOOT UNTIL THE CAR WAS WITHIN ABOUT 10 FEET OF STOPPING. COMPLETELY OUT OF THE BLUE, THE REAR WHEELS STARTED SPINNING WILDLY AND SIMULTANEOUSLY MY ENGINE RPM INCREASED TREMENDOUSLY. IN ORDER TO KEEP FROM HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, I STOMPED HARD ON THE BRAKE WITH TWO FEET. WHEN I REALIZED I WASN'T GOING TO STOP, I QUICKLY SHIFTED THE GEARSHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. THE RPM SETTLED DOWN AND THE TIRES STOPPED SQUEALING. I THEN SHIFTED TO PARK UNTIL I COMPOSED MYSELF. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PROCEEDED TO SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE AND CONTINUED ON TO WORK WITHOUT FURTHER TROUBLE THAT DAY. THE SECOND INSTANCE WAS ON FEBRUARY 26, 2016 AT APPROXIMATELY 5:10 P.M. I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM WORK AND PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY TO PARK THE TRUCK. AS I PULLED TOWARD THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY, I HAD SLOWLY ACCELERATED UP THE SLIGHTLY INCLINED DRIVEWAY, THEN SLOWLY STARTED TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP. JUST AS I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO STOP, THE SAME THING OCCURRED. MY REAR WHEELS STARTED SPINNING WILDLY AND THE ENGINE RPM SHOT UP VERY HIGH. I PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE TRUCK FROM ENTERING THE BACK YARD, BUT THE TIRES WERE LAYING RUBBER ON THE DRIVEWAY. I QUICKLY SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL, THEN INTO PARK, AND TURNED OFF THE KEY. THE TRUCK HAS SAT IN THE DRIVEWAY SINCE BECAUSE I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT. THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED FOR MY SON TO DRIVE AFTER HE RECEIVED HIS LICENSE. FORTUNATELY, I HAD NOT YET TURNED THE KEYS OVER TO HIM, AS AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER, HE WOULD HAVE POSSIBLY BEEN KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT, OR KILLED SOMEONE ELSE.
Toyota Tacoma has excessive rust throughout the frame and suspension.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V602000 (SUSPENSION) AS WELL AS A RECALL PERTAINING TO THE FRAME. THE CONTACT FELT UNSAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. DUE TO THE FRAME BEING RUSTED, THE TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED TEN TIMES. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE LEAF SPRINGS COULD SNAP, PUNCTURE THE FUEL TANK, AND POSSIBLY CAUSE A FIRE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND THE FRAME WAS ORDERED, BUT HAD NOT YET ARRIVED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEALS WERE CORRODED AND THE POWER STEERING JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
I HAVE 3 ACTIVE RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE AND TOYOTA SEEMS UNABLE TO SUPPLY THE PARTS TO FIX IT. THE RECALLS ARE FOR "DRIVE AND FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES", "REAR LEAF SPRING" AND "CORROSION-RESISTANT COMPOUND APPLICATION TO THE VEHICLE FRAME". FOR THE SEAT BELT PROBLEM, I HAVE MADE APPOINTMENTS WITH 2 DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALERS WITHIN THE LAST YEAR, HAVE DRIVEN 60 MILES EACH WAY TO HAVE IT DONE AND HAVE BEEN TOLD WHEN I GOT THERE THAT THE PARTS WERE ON "NATIONAL BACKORDER". I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD BY BOTH DEALERS AS WELL AS A TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE THAT THERE ARE NO REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THE "LEAF SPRING" PROBLEM AND THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHEN WHERE WOULD BE ANY. AS FOR THE LAST ISSUE, TOYOTA HAS PUT A DEADLINE OF 3/31/16 ON THE RECALL AND BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH TOYOTA DEALERS, I DOUBT THAT I CAN FIND ONE IN MY STATE THAT WILL DO THE WORK BEFORE THE DEADLINE. I HAVE ALREADY EXPRESSED MY FRUSTRATION WITH BOTH THE LAST DEALER AND WITH THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE. THIS TRUCK WAS RECALLED FOR PREMATURE FRAME CORROSION. AT THE DEALER'S INSPECTION THE VEHICLE WAS PRONOUNCED AS BEING STRUCTURALLY SOUND. HOWEVER, AT THE CORPORATIONS EXPENSE THE VEHICLE WOULD BE SENT ELSEWHERE FOR FRAME ANTI CORROSION TREATMENT. I PICKED UP THE TRUCK A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER AND FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS AS FAR AS ALLOWING THE TREATMENT TO CURE OUTSIDE FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THIS REPAIR WAS DONE IN JANUARY F THIS YEAR. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS IT SEEMED AS THOUGH THE FRAME TREATMENT HAD NOT CURED AS A STRONG CHEMICAL SMELL PERSISTED WHICH WAS PHYSICALLY NAUSEATING. IT IS NOW MAY 5TH AND THE VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALERSHIP (WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED) FOR AN UNRELATED RECALL REPAIR. THE SERVICE MANAGER AND MECHANIC WHO LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE SAY THE TREATMENT WILL EVENTUALLY CURE AND STOP SMELLING. THE TOYOTA CORPORATION CLAIMS TO HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY IN THIS MATTER. THE DEALER SENT THE VEHICLE OUT FOR A TOYOTA CORPORATION AUTHORIZED TREATMENT THAT APPARENTLY DID NOT WORK. THIS HAS MADE THE VEHICLE NOT USEFUL FOR ME ANY LONGER; I DON'T EXPECT TO HAVE TO LIVE WITH MY PRIMARY VEHICLE HAVING BEEN MADE USELESS UNLESS I INTEND TO BE MADE ILL WHILE DRIVING IT. THE VEHICLE WAS MORE USEFUL, EVEN WITH MINOR FRAME CORROSION, BEFORE THIS TREATMENT WAS DONE AND I FULLY EXPECTED TO HAVE THE USE FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS.
PULLED INTO PARKING LOT, TURNING RIGHT. HAD FOOT ON BRAKE. ENGINE WENT TO FULL THROTTLE, REAR TIRES SPINNING, JUMPED CURB. TURNED KEY OFF. ALL OK AFTER RE-STARTING. HAVE THREE WITNESSES. THIS IS SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN 12 MONTHS. SEE 03/2015 COMPLAINT. REPORTED TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN MARCH 2015, AT STONE MOUNTAIN, GA. THEY KEPT SEVERAL DAYS, RAN TEST, AND TOOK PICTURES. THEY ADVISED PROBLEM IS NOW IN THE HANDS OF TOYOTA CORPORATION IN CALIFORNIA." IF THEY ARE WILLING TO CORRECT, I WILL HEAR FROM THEM." HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING. THIS VEHICLE WILL EVENTUALLY HURT OR KILL SOMEONE. I HAVE DONE ALL I KNOW TO DO. TOYOTA SHOULD INSTALL BRAKE OVERRIDE SYSTEM AS REQUESTED 03/2015 FROM DEALERSHIP. ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4TH I WAS DRIVING MY TACOMA PICKUP. WHEN I HAD TO STOP IN TRAFFIC I APPLIED THE BRAKE. THE PICKUP HAD UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION RATHER THAN STOPPING. I WAS NOT GOING MORE THAN FIVE MPH. I WAS ON A CITY STREET. THERE IS DAMAGE TO MY PICKUP.

THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED THAT THERE WAS NO SCHEDULE FOR THE RELEASE OF THE PARTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT UNAVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO TWO TREES. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDIAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA. IT CAME WITH GENINUE FACTORY INSTALLED RUNNING BOARDS. ABOUT A YEAR AGO I NOTICED PITTING ON THE RUNNING BOARDS (BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE) THE COROSION STARTED AT THE REAR OF THE BOARDS (NEAR THE REAR WHEELS). I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT. I INQUIRED IF THE TACOMA WAS COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY OR RECALL, SINCE I'VE HAD SEVERAL AND ONE IS STILL OUTSTANDING (TOYOTA IS IN PROCESS OF DECIDING HOW TO FIX, SOMETHING TO DO WITH A REAR SPRING NEAR GAS TANTK). THIS MIGHT BE ASSOCIATED WITH MY CURRENT PROBLEM WITH THE-RUNNING BOARDS ON MY TRUCK! LAST WEEK WEDNESDAY I LEFT MY TRUCK FOR REPAIR WITH THE DEALERSHIP AGREEING TO PAY $300 FOR RESTORING MY RUNNING BOARDS. BY THE WAY THEY GUARANTEE THEIR WORK FOR LIFETIME. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY INFORMING ME THAT UPON INSPECTIOEN OF THE RUNNING (TOYOTA GENUINE FACTORY INSTALLED) BOARDS THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THAT BOTH BOARDS WERE CORRODED FROM WITHIN THE PARTS AND CONSIDERED UNSALVAGEABLE. IF THEY DID THE WORK THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE THE SAFETY OF THE PARTS. IN FACT THE BOARDS COULD COME OFF IN THE COMING MONTHS. NO WARRANTY ON DOING THIS JOB. MY WIFE & I ARE SENIOR CITZENS AND RELY ON USING THE RUNNING BOARDS TO GAIN ENTRANCE TO THE TRUCK. ANOTHER CONCERN I HAVE IF I HIT SOMETHING ON THE ROAD AND THE DEFECTIVE RUNNING BOARDS BREAK OFF AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE ATTITUDE FROM TOYOTA CORPORATE WAS THAT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING HAPPENS. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A SUPERVISOR I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A CALLBACK WITH 24 HOURS. IT HAS BEEN 3 DAYS AND I'VE NOT HEARD BACK. MY COMPLAINT IS LODGED AGAINST TOYOTA FOR MAKING DEFECTIVE PARTS THAT COULD INJURY OTHERS. TOYOTA'S INDIFFERENCE TO MY SITUATION ONLY INCENSES ME BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WAS BUYING A QUALITY PRODUCT.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE DRIVER SIDE FRONTAL AIR BAG HOUSING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V092000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
UNINTENDED ACCELERATION TO FULL THROTTLE WHILE IN DRIVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA EQUIPPED WITH FIRESTONE FR710 TIRES, SIZE: P205/70R15. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE EXHIBITED BUBBLES ON THE SIDEWALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE REPLACED THE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS A REPLACEMENT TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,180. THE APPROXIMATE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
WHILE STOPPED YESTERDAY WAITING ON AN AUTOMATIC GATE TO OPEN. TRUCK WAS IN DRIVE, FOOT ON THE BRAKE AS NORMAL. WITHOUT MOVING, TRUCK ACCELERATED ON ITS ON LUNGING FORWARD, BACK TIRES SCREECHING AS I APPLIED MORE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE. HAD ENOUGH SENSE TO THROW INTO NEUTRAL TO MAKE IT STOP. ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV EVEN AFTER PUTTING IT IN NEUTRAL BUT QUICKLY RETURNED BACK TO NORMAL. FORTUNATELY, I DIDN'T RUN INTO THE GATE BUT WOULD HAVE HAD I NOT OF PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHICH ARE SUPPOSE TO LOOK AT IT TOMORROW. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD BRING IN A REPRESENTATIVE FROM TOYOTA TO ASSESS THE SITUATION.
TACOMA LEAF SPRINGS BROKEN AND NOT SUPPORTING VEHICLE. DAMAGED AND REPLACED SHOCKS AND ALIGNMENT. VEHICLE IS UNSAFE DUE TO RECALL AND POSSIBLE PUNCTURE OF FUEL TANK DUE TO DEFECTIVE LEAF SPRINGS AND CAN ALSO SEVER THE BRAKE LINES. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF VOLUNTARY RECALL BUT HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE LEAF SPRINGS EVEN AFTER ADMITTING THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT SUPPORTED AS REQUIRED BY LEAF SPRINGS AND THAT THE SHOCKS WERE OVERUSED TO THE POINT OF FAILURE AND WERE REPLACED DUE TO THE LACK OF SUPPORT. NEW SHOCKS AND EVERYTHING EXCEPT LEAF SPRINGS INSTALLED YET TACOMA STILL BOTTOMS OUT DUE TO LACK OF PROPER LEAF SPRINGS EVEN WITH NEW EQUIPMENT INSTALLED. TOYOTA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER NOTIFIED AND REFUSED FIRST REQUEST AND SECOND FILED ON 8/4/2015 WITH CASE NUMBER 1508031434 ASSIGNED. LEVEL TWO AGENT PETER AGAIN REFUSED TO REPLACE KNOW DEFECTIVE PARTS OR HONOR RECALL AFTER BEING INFORMED THAT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE AT BOTH RIVERVIEW TOYOTA. AND EARNHARDT TOYOTA, BOTH IN MESA ARIZONA. BOTH DEALERSHIPS INFORMED ME THAT THEY ARE DIRECTED BY THE CORPORATE CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER TO NOT REPLACE ANY RECALL ITEMS WITHOUT FIRST GETTING APPROVAL REGARDLESS OF THE KNOWN DANGERS TO BOTH PERSON AND PROPERTY, OR THAT THE PART IS BROKEN AND DOES NOT PERFORM TO ACTIONS OF IT'S DESIGN. TOYOTA HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE DAMAGES, SAFETY CONCERNS, AS WELL AS LOST TIME AND COSTS ($993.41IN SERVICE REPAIRS PLUS 5 LOST USE/WORK DAYS TO DATE), YET HAS REFUSED TO HONOR OR ABIDE BY THE REQUIREMENTS TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT.
MY TACOMA WAS IN THE SHOP FOR THE LIMITED FRAME UNDERCOATING SPRAY BACK IN NOVEMBER 2014, THEN WAS RUSTING THROUGH THE SPRAY AND RESPRAYED IN JULY 2015, NOW IS RUSTING THROUGH YET AGAIN. TOYOTA CORPORATE DOESN'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND TOLD ME TO WORK WITH THE DEALER.

THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ALL THREE PASSENGERS SUSTAINED UNKNOWN INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
SUDDEN ACCELERATION(ENGINE SURGE) WHILE WAITING (FOOT ON BRAKE) TO ENTER TRAFFIC LANE; IMMEDIATELY PUT GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND TURNED ENGINE OFF.
My Toyota was denied needing a frame replacement. I regret not taking it to a different dealership because it was very rusted! The corrosion compound was applied and now at 126,000 miles, you can literally rip handfuls of the frame off the truck. The frame is to the point of it not being safe to drive. I fear that it could definitely break in half while driving it. Has any other people reported rust coming through the spray on corrosion compound? It definitely did not solve the problem on my Toyota Tacoma.

SEEMS LIKE TOYOTA IS PERFORMING ANOTHER MANUFACTURER WATERGATE BY ISSUING BOGUS RECALLS FOR THE STEERING COLUMN SPIRAL CABLE AND THE FRAME INSPECTION AND PREVENTIVE UNDER COATING. REALLY SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE LOOKING FOR THE REAL PROBLEM AS PER OTHER COMPLAINTS.

BASICALLY IF I HIT ANY TYPE OF UNFLAT SURFACE MY ABS WHINES MAJORITY OF THE TIME AND I'M NOT EVEN USING THE BREAKS. I TALKED TO THE DEALER A WHILE AGO AND THEY SAID MY ABS IS WHINING BECAUSE MY TRUCK IS LIFTED. MY LAST TRUCK, DIFFERENT MAKE, WAS LIFTED THE SAME DISTANCE AND I NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH IT. I HAVE HAD THE TOYOTA FOR OVER 2 YEARS NOW.
I HAVE NOTICED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS THAT THE TRUCK HAS BEEN "BOTTOMING OUT" WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP WITH A LOAD. I GOT UNDER TO INSPECT AND NOTICED A RIGHT LEAF SPRING BROKE AND SITTING OVER ON THE AXLE. THE TOP PART WAS STILL CONNECTED TO THE OTHER LEAF SPRINGS. IT BROKE IN THE AREA ABOVE THE AXLE. TOYOTA STILL HAS NO PARTS TO FIX THE ISSUE. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO GET THEM ON THE BALL TO FIXING THE PROBLEM!! MERGING ONTO HIGHWAY AND STEERING BOUND UP WITHOUT WARNING. TOOK ALL MY STRENGTH TO AVOID HITTING GUARDRAIL AND NARROWLY AVOIDED CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT.
