IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE, IN OCT 2008, DURING A COLD MORNING, SET CRUISE CONTROL, BUT NOT IN OVERDRIVE, HIT ACCELERATION PEDAL, VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPEED OUT OF CONTROL. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. RESOLVED BY DISENGAGING CRUISE CONTROL. HAVE NOT DUPLICATED SITUATION, AND NO MORE INCIDENTS OCCURRED. I NOTIFIED CAPITSTRANO TOYOTA IN CA, BUT NOT ON LIST OF VEHICLES RECALLED. I TRIED TO EMAIL WITH ONLINE FORM, SYSTEM WON'T ALLOW ME TO SUBMIT ISSUE. I TRIED TO CALL TOYOTA, NOT TAKING ANY CALLS. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA AND IT HAS VIBRATION AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS, I HAVE CARRIED IT TO 2 TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS AND THEY BOTH SAY THEY DON'T FEEL IT, WELL THEY ARE LYING BECAUSE IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE. EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT , IT VIBRATES. IT DOES NOT FEEL LIKE A TIRE VIBRATION, MORE LIKE A DRIVE SHAFT VIBRATION . AS OF NOW NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM AND IT IS GETTING A LITTLE WORSE EVERYTIME I DRIVE IT. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN TOYOTA FOR NOT TRYING TO HELP ME. I CARRIED IT TO DAVE EDWARDS TOYOTA IN SPARTANBURG,S.C. AND TOYOTA OF GREER S.C. THE SAME DAY OF SEPTEMBER 22,2008. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN AUGUST 2, 2008. WHY CAN I NOT GET IT FIXED BY TOYOTA? AND NOW THEY ARE COMING OUT SAYING THE 2010 IS ON RECALL FOR VIBRATION, IT DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. I WOULD HATE TO HIRE AN ATTORNEY TO CLEAR THIS UP BUT IF YOU CANNOT GET ME ANY SATISFACTION I MIGHT NOT HAVE ANY CHOICE. AT THE PRESENT I HARDLY DRIVE IT AT ALL AND WHEN I DO IT IS SHORT TRIPS. I'M AWARE OF ALL THE NEGATIVE NEWS ON TOYOTA BUT THE PUBLIC NEEDS TO KNOW. I WAS RUNNING MANY ERRANDS THAT SATURDAY. IT WAS HOT / HUMID AND THE A/C WAS ON MEDIUM. I WAS ON A SLIGHT UPHILL GRADE WAITING AT THE RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. I WAS THE FIRST CAR TURNING RIGHT ON THE RED LIGHT. THEN MY TRUCK LURCHED FORWARD WHILE I WAS RELEASING MY BRAKE. SO, I STEPPED THE BRAKES AND SHIFTED TO NETURAL. THE ENGINE REVIVED FOR A SPLIT SECOND THEN IT RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. I LOOKED DOWN TO CHECK THE FLOOR MAT AND THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. I CONSIDER THIS A MILD INCIDENT COMPARED TO WHAT I HAVE BEEN HEARING ON THE NEWS. I REPORTED IT TO AN AUTHORZIED TOYOTA SERVICE ADVISOR AND HE DISMISSED THE CASE SAYING IT WAS CAUSED BY THE A/C NOT NEED MORE POWER. HOW OFTEN DID IT OCCUR? JUST THAT ONCE. WHAT WAS DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM? NOTHING. *TR
SEVERAL TOYOTA MODELS, INCLUDING MY 2008 TACOMA EXPERIENCE PREMATURE FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND HUB FAILURES. INCIDENCES HAVE BEEN REPORTED FOR THESE MODELS AS FAR BACK AS 2002 AND THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED BY TOYOTA. THE FAILURE IN MY VEHICLE WAS CAUGHT BEFORE BECOMING CATASTROPHIC, BUT AS YOU MIGHT IMAGINE, A FRONT WHEEL BEARING FAILURE AT HIGH SPEED CAN BE A DEVASTATING ACCIDENT. THIS FIRST FAILURE ON MY VEHICLE WAS RESOLVED AT MY EXPENSE IN EXCESS $800, BUT INTERNET REPORTS SUGGEST THIS REPAIR IS NOT A FIX. IT IS PROBABLE THAT THIS WILL OCCUR AGAIN AS TOYOTA HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT IS MAKING REPAIRS AT THE CONSUMERS COST. PLEASE HAVE TOYOTA STAND BEHIND THEIR ENGINEERING FAILURES. *TR
WHILE ENTERING AN ON RAMP THE TRUCK ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN GOING OUT OF CONTROL, CRASHING SIDEWAYS INTO A GUARD RAIL...ONCE IT TOOK OFF ON ITS OWN IT KEPT INCREASING SPEED ON ITS OWN, APPLYING THE BRAKE HAD NO AFFECT ON GETTING IT UNDER CONTROL...DAMAGE $8,000.00....TOOK TO DEALER NEXT DAY TO WHICH THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM...WE HAVE FOUND MANY INSTANCES AS THIS ONE WITH THIS SAME TRUCK AND MODEL ON THE INTERNET. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE REAR RIGHT TIRE LOST AIR CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER WASN'T ABLE TO ADJUST THE TIRE PRESSURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT HE REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT BECAUSE HIS VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE A HOOK FOR THE FLOOR MAT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, IT SURGED FORWARD. ON ANOTHER OCCASION WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND SHE CONTINUED TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH FORCE UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY TESTED THE VEHICLE. REPORT 1001136136 WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT OFFER HER ANY ASSISTANCE. I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE WAY THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS ARE CONFIGURED I FREQUENTLY HIT THE GAS PEDAL ALONG WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN DEPRESSED GOES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THE PEDALS ARE SO CLOSE TOGETHER THAT THE GAS PEDAL IS SOMETIMES CAUGHT BY THE EDGE OF MY SHOE WHILE BRAKING CAUSING THE ENGINE TO RACE. THIS ESPECIALLY HAPPENS WHEN BACKING UP AND MY BODY IS CONTORTED TO SEE OUT THE REAR WINDSHIELD. BUT IT ALSO HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY WHEN DRIVING FORWARD AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AND HAD NUMEROUS CLOSE CALLS ALMOST RUNNING INTO CARS OR OBJECT IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE REFERRED THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALER. THEY SAY THEY HAVE NO REMEDY FOR THE PROBLEM. I WAS REFERRED TO TOYOTA CORPORATE NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS PHONE # 1-800-331-4331 AND HAD AN INVESTIGATION CASE OPEN, CASE NUMBER 1307222061. AFTER THE INSPECTION OF MY VEHICLE THEY SAID THAT MY TRUCK IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. I STILL FEEL THAT THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT. ANOTHER SIDE NOTE IS THAT WHENEVER I BROUGHT MY TRUCK IN TO THE DEALER JUST ABOUT THIS PROBLEM THEY WOULDN'T CHARGE FOR THE INSPECTION OR BRAKE ADJUSTMENTS AND SO NO PAPERWORK WAS WRITTEN UP OF MY COMPLAINTS WHICH HAS HAPPEN TWO OR THREE TIMES. SO YOU PROBABLY WON'T SEE MUCH OF ANY HISTORY ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WAS BY DESIGN TO NOT HAVE A PAPER RECORD TO AVOID RECALLS OR HAVING CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS DOCUMENTED. I HAVE ALSO MENTIONED THIS TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS DURING ROUTINE SERVICE VISITS BUT IT WAS NEVER REALLY WRITTEN UP. I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET THAT OTHER TACOMA OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE LAST INCIDENT THAT I HAD A MONTH AGO I ALMOST WENT OF A CLIFF BECAUSE MY FOOT CAUGHT ON THE GAS PEDAL WHILE BRAKING. IT'S A POOR DESIGN TO HAVE THE BRAKE PEDAL GO BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE GAS PEDAL AT ANY TIME WHEN THEY ARE SO CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. *TR
TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND THEN WENT IT WENT INTO GEAR IT JERKED YOU FORWARD BECAUSE I WAS PRESSING ON GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING WAS HAPPENING AND THEN IT GRABBED THE GEAR. SENT TO DEALER 8/7/08 TO 10/30/09. TRANSMISSION WAS FIXED SO SO ON 8/14/08 BUT NOW THE WARNING BRAKE LIGHT AND SOMETIMES THE WARNING BEEP COMES ON. STARTED 8/14/08 UP TO AND STILL 10/30/09. HAS BEEN TOO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS HAD COMPANY SEND THREE DIFFERENT TECH. TO WORK ON AND EVEN HAD A ARBITRATOR WITH THE COMPANY, STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH TRUCK . *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED TO SPEEDS OF OVER 100 MPH. SHE ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKES, TO NO AVAIL. SHE ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFT SELECTOR TO THE PARK POSITION, REVERSE AND NEUTRAL WHILE VIOLENTLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE DECLINED IN SPEED SHORTLY THEREAFTER. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED A SECOND TIME WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO ABNORMALLY FAST SPEEDS. THE DEALER ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL PERTAINING TO THE FLOOR MATS, BUT NOT THE RECALL FOR THE STICKING ACCELERATOR PEDAL (SEE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V388000, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL) WHICH THE CONTACT BELIEVED TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. HE STATED THAT THERE WERE NO FLOOR MATS IN THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE TO DATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,227 AND THE CURRENT WAS 23,363.
MY 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA TENDS TO SURGE WHEN DOWNSHIFTING. THIS CAUSES THE PICKUP TO "JUMP", PARTICULARLY WHEN COMING TO A STOP. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, DOWNTOWN TOYOTA OF SPOKANE, BUT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG - SURPRISE! I WAS TOLD THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER COULD CAUSE THE PROBLEM WHEN IT KICKED ON, BUT THE AIR CONDITIONER NOR THE HEATER/DEFROSTER HAS BEEN ON WHEN THE SURGES OCCURRED. THE INCIDENT DATE IS THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED - TODAY. IT IS NOT VERY PLEASANT TO DRIVE UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA HOME FROM WORK. I WAS ABOUT 15 MINUTES FROM HOME WHEN MY TRUCK IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED TO 70-80 MPH (UNINTENTIONALLY!). I LIVE IN A VERY MOUNTAINOUS REGION; IT WAS VERY HARD TO KEEP MY TRUCK UNDER CONTROL IN THE CURVES. I WAS PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY IN, BUT IT WASN'T SLOWING MY TRUCK DOWN. I BEGAN GOING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN PRAYING THE WHOLE TIME...THERE IS A TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH 2 GAS STATIONS AT THE INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY THERE WEREN'T ANY CARS IN FRONT OF ME AND THE LIGHT WAS GREEN. I SHIFTED GEARS (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) DOWN ALL THE WAY TO 2ND. MY TRUCK WASN'T SLOWING. I WAS THINKING THE ENTIRE TIME THAT I WAS GOING TO HIT SOMEONE AND THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THAT I COULD DO ABOUT IT. NOT A GOOD FEELING TO SAY THE LEAST. I FINALLY GOT MY TRUCK STOPPED RIGHT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. A LADY CAME RUNNING OUT FROM A BUILDING THAT WORKS FOR THE ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION TO MAKE SURE I WAS OKAY. SHE SAID THAT SHE SAW SMOKE AND THOUGHT THAT MY TRUCK MIGHT BE ON FIRE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY PARENTS. MY DAD STARTED TO DRIVE MY TRUCK. I WAS DRIVING BEHIND MY DAD AND IMMEDIATELY SAW MY DAD TAKE OFF IN MY TRUCK...WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON! I WAS TERRIFIED THAT MY DAD WAS GOING TO WRECK. MY DAD WAS ABLE TO TURN IT OFF AND GET IT OFF THE MAIN ROAD. WE CALLED MILTON MARTIN TOYOTA AND THEY HAD A TOW TRUCK PICK IT UP THE NEXT DAY. THEY KEPT MY TRUCK FOR 5 DAYS AND GAVE ME A RENTAL CAR. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THEY PUT 50 MILES ON MY TRUCK AND IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. THEY SAID THAT I NEEDED TO PICK MY TRUCK UP AND RETURN THE RENTAL CAR! THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD DRIVE IT AGAIN OR KNOWINGLY LET SOMEONE ELSE DRIVE IT WHEN IT WILL DO THE SAME THING WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT! WE ARE TALKING ABOUT PEOPLES LIVES HERE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE THROTTLE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY WENT WIDE OPEN WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE UNEXPECTEDLY. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND AVOID ANY CRASHES. WHEN THE VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AND NO FAILURE OR CODES SHOWED UP ON THE DEALER'S SYSTEM. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 13,000.
2008 TOYOTA TACOMA, JUNE 16, 2008 I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERS GARAGE AND TOLD THEM THAT THE PICKUP MOTOR WAS ENGINE SPEED WOULD RACE WHEN I WAS AS A STOP, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AND THAT MY FUEL MILES HAD DROP 5 MILES A GALLON. ALSO THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SLAM IN AND OUT OF LOW GEAR GOING UP AND DOWN A HILL. THEY CLAIM THEY PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND IT DID NOT SHOW ANY ERROR. SO THAT THE TRUCK IS FINE, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS PROBABLY FROM WHEN MY AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON I TOLD THEM I DON'T RUN MY AIR CONDITIONER. BUT THE TOLD ME TO JUST WATCH IT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.
THE TOYOTA TACOMA (2008) IS ADVERTISED FOR USE TO TRANSPORT MOTORCYCLES. THIS IS A CENTRAL THEME IN THEIR MARKETING PROGRAM. THE BED IS TURNS OUT IS MADE OF "COMPOSITE" (PLASTIC). THE TIE DOWN POINTS ARE RAILS AND CLEATS THAT COME OFF OR SLIDE ALONG THE SIDES OF THE BED, NOT REGULAR TIE DOWNS IN THE FRONT CORNERS, AS IN NORMAL METAL TRUCKS. THERE IS NO METAL IN THE BED TO AFFIX A TIE DOWN POINT TO. THIS SYSTEM IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE WEIGHT OR ANGLE OF MOTORCYCLES. PLUS THE ANGLES REQUIRED TO TIE DOWN MOTORCYCLES FORCE THE CLEATS TO BEND AND FLEX BECAUSE THEY ARE ONLY INSTALLED IN PLASTIC. IT TURNS OUT THE OWNER'S MANUAL FOR THE 2008 HAS LIMITATIONS ON THE CLEATS BOTH IN ANGLE OF TIE DOWNS AND WEIGHT, BOTH OF WHICH ARE EXCEEDED IN THEIR AD PHOTOGRAPHS, LEADING ONE TO BELIEVE IT CAN BE USED FOR THIS PURPOSE, AND IN WHAT THEIR DEALERS (OR AT LEAST POWER TOYOTA IN TEMPE ARIZONA, AND TOYOTA MOTOR SALES USA, INC IS ADVERTISING). IN FACT, MANY HAVE PURCHASED THE TRUCK FOR THIS PURPOSE AND ARE DANGER OF A FAILURE OF THE SYSTEM. TOYOTA HAS ADMITTED IT IS INSUFFICIENT TO HANDLE THE WEIGHT, BUT CONTINUES TO SELL THE VEHICLES FOR THIS PURPOSE, AS IS SHOWN IN THEIR ADS. THE DEALER THAT I BOUGHT MINE FROM WITHHELD THE OWNER'S MANUAL UNTIL AFTER I TOOK THE TRUCK HOME, AND LET ME KNOW I COULD COME BACK FOR IT. THE SPECIFICATIONS ON THE TIE DOWN LIMITATIONS ARE NOT DISCLOSED ANYWHERE BUT IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THE DEALER ALSO TOLD ME TO USE THE TRUCK IN VIOLATION OF THE OWNER'S MANUAL WHEN I MET WITH THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN THE EVENT A MOTORCYCLE COMES OFF THE BACK OF A TRUCK AND HURTS/KILLS SOMEONE. *TR
SPEEDOMETER REGISTERS 3 MPH FASTER THAN ACTUAL SPEED AT 55 MPH . DEALER SAYS NOT ADJUSTABLE AND WITH-IN THE TOLERANCE LEVEL. TRUCK HAS STOCK 15" TIRES, THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW. *TR
NEW 08 TOYOTA TACOMA LESS THAN 1,000 MILES. STOPPED IN A PARKING LOT WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. SUDDEN UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION. THOUGHT ANOTHER CAR HAD HIT OUR NEW TOYOTA TRUCK FROM BEHIND AND WAS PUSHING OUR TRUCK. HAD BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED AS FAR AS IT WOULD GO, OUR TRUCK ACCELERATED UNIT OUR TRUCK HIT ANOTHER CAR THEN TURNED THE IGNITION OFF TO GET OUR TRUCK TO STOP. MATS WERE CLIP IN AND A GOOD 4 TO 5 INCHES FROM PEDAL. TWO PEOPLE IN THE TRUCK AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. *TR

ON MAY 28, 2008, WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT 2 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UP AN EMBANKMENT. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AFTER SEVEN FEET. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WITH THE DEALER SINCE MAY OF 2008, BUT THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. AS A RESULT, THEY WILL NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WILL SEND AN ENGINEER TO THE DEALER IN APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. IN THE INTERIM, THE CONTACT MUST EITHER PAY FOR THE RENTAL VEHICLE THE DEALER HAS PROVIDED OR DRIVE HIS OWN VEHICLE. HE STATED THAT HE WILL NOT DRIVE HIS VEHICLE BECAUSE HE MAY NOT BE AS LUCKY WHEN THE NEXT FAILURE OCCURS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 500.
THIS 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB WAS PURCHASED NEW IN LATE 2007. IT IMMEDIATE DEVELOPED LEAF SPRING NOISE WHICH TOYOTA ADDRESSED THROUGH TSB TSU01207 - GREASE SPRINGS. 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP TRUCK- I WAS WEARING A PAIR OF STEEL TIP WORKBOOTS WHEN I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A CONVENIENCE STORE. I HIT THE BRAKE BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN ACTUATED IS CLOSER TO THE FLOOR THAN THE TOP PART OF THE GAS PEDAL. WITH STEEL TIP WORK BOOTS BEING WORN WHICH ARE WIDER THAN STREET SHOES I ACTUATED THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME. THE TRUCK SHOT FORWARD IN THE PARKING SPOT AND HIT A TUBULAR PYLON FILLED WITH CONCRETE. THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT KEPT THE VEHICLE FROM CRASHING INTO A PERSON OR BUILDING. ON 01/04/2008 I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT IN TRAFFIC. I WAS STOPPED APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET FROM THE REAR BUMPER OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. WHILE STOPPED MY VEHICLE, A 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB BEGAN TO ACCELERATE VIOLENTLY. I PROCEEDED TO PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AND IT RAMMED INTO THE STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. MY 2008 TOYOTA TACOMA CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET. THE ACCELERATION WAS VIOLENT AND THE TRUCK WAS "FISHTAILING" FROM SIDE TO SIDE DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT WAS PUSHED UP AGAINST ANOTHER VEHICLE AND I HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES. THE TRUCK EVENTUALLY SHUT OFF BUT NOT BEFORE I RAMMED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, THE IMPACT WAS SO SEVERE I BENT THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MY CHEST. I SUFFERED INJURIES TO MY CHEST, NECK AND SHOULDER. I HAVE 98000 MILES ON MY TRUCK, 90% OF IT FREEWAY MILES. EVERY TIME I HAD MADE A ROAD TRIP, THE BACK OF MY NECK WOULD BURN, AND KEEP BURNING FOR WEEKS AFTER I WAS BACK FROM MY TRIPS. TWO WEEKS AGO, AFTER DRIVING 1000 MILES, THE BURNING INCREASED TO EXTREME SHOOTING NERVE NEEDLES FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF MY NECK DOWN BELOW AND ABOVE MY SHOULDER BLADE, DOWN BELOW AND ABOVE MY RIB CAGE IN THE AREA OF MY HEART, AND AROUND THE BACK OF MY SHOULDER, DOWN THROUGH MY ARM PIT, UP THE FRONT OF MY SHOULDER AND INTO MY ROTATOR CUFF. THE PAIN WAS REDUCED BY 500MG OF ASPIRIN AND 500MG OF IBUPROPIN. THE NEXT DAY I HUNTED ROCKS, BENDING AND STRETCHING, AND WORKED MOST OF THE PAIN AWAY BY STRETCHING THE MUSCLES OUT. AS SOON AS I STARTED MY RETURN TRIP, THE PAIN RETURNED, ALL THE SAME AS ABOVE. AS I WAS RUBBING MY NECK I NOTICED THAT MY TRUCK DOES NOT HAVE A SHOULDER STRAP. IT HAS A NECK STRAP, SINCE THE ENTIRE STRAP WAS TIGHT UP AGAINST THE LOWER PART OF MY NECK, JERKING MY NECK EVER TIME THE TRUCK MADE A TURN OR HIT A BUMP. FOR THAT MATTER, EVERY TIME I MOVED MY BODY, THE SHOULDER STRAP PRESSED AGAINST MY LOWER NECK. WHEN I PUT THIS NECK STRAP BEHIND MY BACK, THE PAIN SUBSIDED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. NOW I HAVE TO HAVE THE STRAP BEHIND MY BACK EVEN IN THE CITY, OTHERWISE THE PAIN IN MY NECK IS THERE ALL THE TIME. SO, FOR THE LAST 8 YEARS, ALL MY NECK PAIN HAS BEEN CAUSED FROM THE DEFECTIVE SEAT BELT, AND I WANT IT FIXED/REPLACED. IT IS ILLEGAL TO DRIVE WITH THE SHOULDER BELT BEHIND MY BACK. THERE NEEDS TO BE A DEVICE THAT MOVES THE SHOULDER STRAP FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BODY OVER TOWARD THE MIDDLE OF MY BODY SO THAT THE SHOULDER STRAP LAYS ACROSS MY SHOULDER AND DOESN'T WRAP AROUND MY LOWER NECK.
