PASSENGER SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WARPING CAUSING LEAK WHICH IN TURN CAUSING VEHICLE TO RUN IMPROPERLY AND EFFECTING PERFORMANCE AND SAFETY ISSUE. ENGAGING ACCELERATOR WITH THE LEAK CAUSES VEHICLE TO SPUTTER AND LOSES POWER MAKING VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
I KNOW ABOUT RECALL ON RUST CORROSION. THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO MY EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE FRONT PORT ON BOTH MANIFOLDS ARE LEAKING. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED BOTH CAT. CONVERTERS AND THE RESONATOR. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA AND IT HAS A PROBLEM THAT WHEN THE CAR GETS HOT THE ENGINE WILL STALL OUT AND DIE WITHOUT WARNING. IT CREATES NO OMD II ERRORS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER APPEARS. THE ECM FUSE BLOWS ON OCCASION BUT REPLACING IT DOES NOT LEAD TO A RUNNING VEHICLE. IT FAILS TO START UNTIL THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT COOLS DOWN. THERE IS FIRE FROM THE SPARK PLUGS AND THERE IS FUEL PRESSURE IN THE FUEL RAIL. WE HAVE REPLACED ALL THE RELAYS AND FUSES IN THE ECM AND EFI CIRCUITS AND ALL FINGERS ARE NOW POINTING TO THE ECM CONTROLLER ITSELF. WE JUST CHANGED OUT THE FUEL PUMP AND ARE LOOKING AT REPLACEMENT OF ALL THE IGNITION COILS (8) AND ALL THE FUEL INJECTORS (8). BUT SINCE ALL OF THESE COMPONENTS SEAM TO BE WORKING THAT WOULD MAKE LITTLE SINCE. THE RECENT RECALL FOR THE ECM ON THE MATRIX & COROLLA INDICATE THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE MANUFACTURE OF ECM UNITS FOR A MUCH LONGER PERIOD OF TIME SINCE MY TUNDRA IS EXHIBITING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE FOR OVER 5 YEARS NOW AND THE TOYOTA DEALERS AND OTHER TOYOTA SPECIALTY SHOPS CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM SINCE THERE ARE NO ENGINE CODES AND THE FACT THAT IT WILL START AND RUN FINE AFTER IT COOLS DOWN. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR IT TO DIE AND NOT START AT ALL TO HOPE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2000 TUNDRA ACCESS CAB TRUCK WITH 62,000 MILES. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO I HAD IT DIAGNOSED. THE FRONT O2 SENSOR BEFORE THE CAT HAS FAILED. I WROTE TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 7 YRS OR 90,000 MILES. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS ALSO UP TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO DECIDE IF THE FAULT WOULD BE COVERED. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A RELATIVE, WHO IS NOW DECEASED, AND DID NOT RECEIVE ANY RECALL INFO. I WROTE TO TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME TO TALK TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHP. I TALKED TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO WRITE OR CALL THE TOYOTA EXPERIENCE DEPARTMENT, OR WHAT EVER IT IS. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE GETTING RIPPED OFF FOR A DEFECT IN FACTORY PROVIDED PARTS AND REPLACEMENT PARTS. I DEFINATELY THINK THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY TOYOTA. I FOR ONE CAN NOT AFFORD TO OWN A VEHICLE THAT IS GOING TO COST $200.00 TO $800.00 EVERY 6 MONTHS TO 2 YEARS. THIS ALSO AFFECTS THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE FACT THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS TO BE SMOGGED EVERY 2 YEARS.

AT 80,000 MILES MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED . I HAVE NEVER ABUSED THIS VEHICLE IN ANY FORM AND FEEL THAT TOYOTA SHOULD REIMBURSE THE MANY THOUSANDS OF OWNERS WHO SEEM TO BE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL. I HAVE HAD ONE OXYGEN SENSOR REPLACED WITHIN THE PAST YEAR AT AN EXPENSE OF OVER $400. I NOW HAVE ANOTHER OXYGEN SENSOR FAILURE AND NOTE THAT MANY OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME MANUFACTURER DEFECT. MY TRUCK HAS ONLY 52,000 MILES BUT IT IS BEYOND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD GRANTED BY TOYOTA. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL ALL 2000 TUNDRAS AND FIX THEM RATHER THAN EXTEND A WARRANTY. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD FAILURE; CRACKS IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD CAUSING FORCED EXHAUST EMISSIONS INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE CARBON EMISSIONS COATING THE INTERIOR OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THUS CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH CAN RESULT IN DEATH; ALSO EXHAUST FUMES CAN MAKE THEIR WAY INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE AND THUS CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONSCIOUSNESS AND RESULT IN ACCIDENTS AND POTENTIAL DEATH. EXHAUST MANIFOLD ARE CRACKED. THIS IS A VERY WELL KNOW ISSUE WITH THESE MANIFOLDS AND TOYOTA HAS NOT STEPPED UP AND TAKEN OWNERSHIP OF THIS PROBLEM. EXHAUST GASES LEAK INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH COULD ENTER THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND CREATE A SERIOUS RISK TO HEALTH. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AT 20,000 MILES WHILE APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THERE WAS A SPEWING NOISE AND THE ODOR OF FUEL COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH DETERMINED THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALTHOUGH, THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SENSORS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WERE REPLACED THREE TIMES THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD HAD NEVER BEEN REPLACED. THE ODOR BECAME WORSE AND NOW IS CAUSING DIZZINESS AND HEADACHES TO THE OCCUPANTS. UPDATED 7/3/2006 - *NM

Perforated exhaust manifolds
"TICKING" SOUND FROM LEFT REAR OF ENGINE BLOCK. I KNOW IT WAS AN EXHAUST LEAK. WENT TO TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY SAID MY EXHAUST HEADER WAS CRACKED AND RUSTED. THE TRUCK WAS BOUGHT NEW IN TEXAS. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER NAMED GABE AT CAMELBACK TOYOTA IN PHOENIX, AZ, "THE HUMIDITY IN DALLAS MUST HAVE CAUSED THE RUSTING." THE TRUCK HAS 79,000 MILES ON IT WITH NO RUST ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE VEHICLE. WHEN I INQUIRED TO THE PRICE OF REPAIRS, HE SAID $1800. HOWEVER, HE ADDED, I COULD GET THE "IMPROVED" MANIFOLD, "WHICH HAS THICKER WELDS, FOR ONLY TEN DOLLARS MORE." THIS SEEMED EVERY ODD TO ME THAT TOYOTA ALREADY HAS AN IMPROVED DESIGN FOR THE HEADER THAT RUSTS FROM THE "HIGH HUMIDITY" OF TEXAS. *JB
