TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS AGO. HE CONTACTED HIS LOCAL DEALER WHO STATED THAT THEY WERE BACKED UP AND ADVISED HIM TO CALL BACK IN THREE TO FIVE WEEKS. THE CONTACT HEEDED THE ADVICE AND CALLED BACK FIVE WEEKS LATER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE OF ARRIVAL. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 8,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000.
MY YOUNG SON (7) WAS ATTEMPING TO PLAY THE VIDEO STATION THAT IS PART OF MY NEW TOYOTA TUNDRA'S VIDEO SYSTEM. THE UNIT STARTED TO CATCH FIRE. WITHIN A MINUTE OF BEING PLUGGED IN INTO THE BEHIND THE HEADREST VIDEO, IT STARTED TO SMOKE, BLACK SMOKE. I QUICKLY PULLED OVER THE TRUCK, RAN TO THE BACK AND TOOK THE UNIT OUT OF MY SON'S HANDS BEFORE HE WAS INJURED. THE UNIT WAS EXTREMELY HOT.
MY DEALER CANNOT GET PARTS TO MAKE REPAIRS ON TOYOTA'S SSC# 70B RECALL. THIS IS NHTSA RECALL # 07V013000. I THE RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA IN EARLY APRIL AND CONTACTED MY DEALER ON APRIL 9, 2007. AS OF THIS DATE (5/2/07) HE STILL HAS NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO MAKE THE REPAIR. *TR
TOYOTA FAILED TO INFORM US ABOUT RECALL SSC 70B OUR 2006 TUNDRA. I READ ABOUT THE RECALL IN A NEWSPAPER ARTICLE. WHEN I FIRST CALLED TOYOTA IN FEBRUARY 2007 THEY PROMISED TO MAIL ME A NOTICE. IT NEVER ARRIVED. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A BRIDGESTONE TIRE DEALER BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE WEAR ON OUTSIDE EDGE OF BOTH FRONT TIRES. THE VEHICLE CAME NEW WITH BRIDGESTONE TIRES. THE BRIDGESTONE TIRE DEALER TOLD US THAT BOTH FRONT TIRES SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY REPLACED BECAUSE THE OUTSIDE EDGES WERE WORN TO THE SUBSTRATE. WE WERE SURPRISED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 7,350 MILES ON IT. THE BRIDGESTONE TIRE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT WE TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALER AND HAVE THEM INSPECT THE FRONT-END ALIGNMENT. THE TOYOTA DEALER AGREED TO DO SO AND INFORMED US THAT HE WOULD BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE RECALL WORK ASSOCIATED WITH SSC 70B AND THAT AS PART OF THAT PROCEDURE, THE FRONT-END ALIGNMENT WOULD BE CHECKED BEFORE AND AFTER THE RECALL WORK. AFTER THE WORK WAS COMPLETED THE ALIGNMENT REPORT CLEARLY SHOWED THAT THE FRONT WHEELS HAD THE INCORRECT "TOE" ADJUSTMENT ON BOTH FRONT WHEELS. WE HAVE RETAINED COPIES OF THAT REPORT. THE SERVICE CONSULTANT SUGGESTED THAT WE CONTACT THE SERVICE MANAGER TO ASCERTAIN WHETHER OR NOT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD PROVIDE SOME SORT OF DISCOUNT ON THE COST TO REPLACE BOTH TIRES. TODAY WE CONTACTED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AS WE BELIEVE ONE OR BOTH OF THE FOLLOWING CONTRIBUTED TO THE PREMATURE DESTRUCTION OF BOTH FRONT TIRES. 1. THE VEHICLE LEFT THE TOYOTA FACTORY WITH THE FRONT-END OUT OF ALIGNMENT. 2. EXCESSIVE WEAR OF BOTH FRONT TIRES WAS CAUSED BY THE IMPROPER "TOE" ADJUSTMENT WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN AN ARTIFACT OF THE RECALL WORK THAT REQUIRED REPLACING THE FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINTS. HAD TOYOTA NOTIFIED ME IN A TIMELY MANNER, I WOULD HAVE HAD THIS RECALL WORK COMPLETED AND POSSIBLY SAVED THE FRONT TIRES FROM PREMATURE DESTRUCTION. SO FAR, TOYOTA HAS REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE TWO NEW FRONT TIRES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING. THE FAILURE IS RELATED TO RECALL # 07V013000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT). THE CONTACT HAS BEEN WAITING SIX MONTHS FOR THE DEALER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WAS AVAILABLE, HOWEVER, IT WAS GIVEN TO SOMEONE ELSE SINCE THE CONTACT WAS UNAVAILABLE AT THE TIME. THE CONTACT IS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 19,750 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
I FOUND THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT ON THE 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA SHOWING PREMATURE WEAR AND FRAYING, THE SPOT IS IN THE CENTER TO THE BELT, IN A LOCATION THAT SITS ON THE DRIVERS LAP, NOT NEAR THE BUCKLE OR ANYWHERE IT SHOULD RUB. *AK
WHEN FUELING THE VEHICLE, THE FILLER NOZZLE WILL EJECT FROM THE VEHICLE WHEN THE NOZZLE SHUTS THE FUEL OFF UPON FILLING THE TANK. I HAVE HAD ONE INSTANCE OF THE FILLER SPOUT EJECTING BEFORE THE TANK FILLED. *TR
FALIURE TO FIX FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINT, CAUSING EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE TIRES AND INABILITY TO DRIVE TRUCK DUE TO DANGER TO PASSENGERS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING NORTH OUT OF PHOENIX ARIZONA ON I-17 JUST PAST BLACK CANYON CITY, WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 75 MPH. THERE IS A VERY LONG HILL GOING NORTH TO SUNSET POINT. PRIOR TO APPROACHING THE HILL I CANCELED THE CRUISE SO THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T HUNT GEARS. I DROVE UP THE HILL AT 65 TO 75 MPH (NO CRUISE). WHEN I MADE THE TOP OF THE HILL AT SUNSET POINT AND LEVELED OUT, I ACCELERATED THE VEHICLE TO 75 MPH AND HIT RESUME. THE ENGINE RACED TO 5200 RPM. I REDLINE AT 5700 RPM. THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT FOLLOW SUITE. IT WAS AS IF I WAS IN NEUTRAL REVVING THE ENGINE. I IMMEDIATELY CANCELED THE CRUISE AND DROVE A MILE OR SO WITHOUT CRUISE, THEN DECIDED TO TRY IT AGAIN. EVERYTHING WORKED NORMAL. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH MY DEALERS SERVICE DEPT. AND THEY ARE BAFFLED. THEY HAVE NOT LOOKED AT IT AS YET DUE TO THEIR SCHEDULE. AS SOON AS THEY CAN GET ME IN THEY WILL. THEY DID SAY THAT THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BUT THERE WAS NOT. THEY ARE HOPING THAT THE ONBOARD COMPUTER RECORDED IT. NOT ONLY IS THIS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD, BUT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED MY ENGINE TO BLOW UP. I'M NOT SURE WHAT REACTION MY WIFE WOULD HAVE HAD. SHE DRIVES ALL THE VEHICLES WE HAVE AND THEY BOTH HAVE CRUISE, YET SHE IS NOT THAT FAMILIAR WIT RPM'S AND REDLINES AND THE ISSUE THAT FOLLOW. WHEN I HAVE ALLOWED THE CRUISE TO PULL ME UP AN INCLINE IT USUALLY DROPS 1 OR TWO GEARS AND THE RPM'S ARE AROUND 3000 TO 3200. THIS I CONSIDER NORMAL. I HAD A 1999 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH A SIX CYLINDER ENGINE AND CRUISE, SO I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE SYSTEM. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM TIM'S TOYOTA IN PRESCOTT, I ALSO BROUGHT TO THEIR ATTENTION A NOISE THAT I HEARD IN THE RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION AND THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE CARE OF IT UNDER A NEW RECALL THAT HAS NOT EVEN BEEN SENT TO CUSTOMERS, NOR WAS THE SERVICE DEPT AWARE OF IT. *JB
I NOTICED POWER OUTLETS WERE LOOSE INFO DEALERSHIP, PANEL WAS LOOSE AS WELL, DEALERSHIP REPLACED A PIN AND FIX PWR OUTLETS. THIS WAS IN FEB.. A MONTH LATER POWER OUTLET PANEL LOOSE AGAIN, DEALERSHIP REPLACED PIN, THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SO MANY TIMES NOW, THIS TIME POWER OUTLET PANEL AS FELL TO THE FLOOR BOARD, I CAN'T BRAKE TO WELL OR ACCELERATE WITH A PANEL BY MY FEET. I HAVE USE THE POWER OUTLET TO RUN A DVD PLAYER AND CELL PHONE CHARGER, PANEL HAS NOT DROP AFTER PULLING THE CHARGER OUT, OF POWER OUTLETS.. JUST WHEN I'M DRIVEN DOWN THE ROAD IT FALLS, I HAVE HAD ANOTHER DEALERSHIP LOOK AT THEE PROBLEM AND WAS INFO THAT THEE PANEL WAS BAD. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER SHOP OTHER THAN TOYOTA ALSO GOT PANEL IS WORN AND VIBRATIONS IS MAKING THEE PANEL TO FALL...SO I ONLY KNOW I HAVE A PANEL LAYING ON MY FLOOR BOARD ITS HARD TO BRAKE OR TO ACCELERATE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN THE SEVEN YEARS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE, HE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT TIRES AT LEAST EIGHT TIMES. THE CONTACT ASSUMED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SUSPENSION ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
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
WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED AT 55 MPH ANY INCREASE IN INCLINE WILL INITIATE A ONE OR TWO GEAR DOWNSHIFT AND SUBSTANTIAL THROTTLE APPLICATION. ALSO WHEN IN CRUISE CONTROL USING HAND CONTROL STALK TO INCREASE SPEED SLIGHTLY WILL INITIATE A ONE OR TWO GEAR DOWNSHIFT AND SUBSTANTIAL THROTTLE APPLICATION. BOTH OF THESE SITUATIONS CAN STARTLE THE DRIVER BECAUSE OF THE ABRUPT CHANGES AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT LEADING TO INJURY/DEATH. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOTALED BY THE ADJUSTER ON DECEMBER 12, 2006. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL # 07V013000 ON MARCH 29, 2007. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 7,000.*AK. RETURNED EQ. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE HAS HAD FOUR BRAKE JOBS AND TWO SETS OF ROTORS REPLACED. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE OVERHEATED AND CANNOT BE USED. THE COST TO REPAIR THE ROTORS IS $500. HE NOTICED A BLACK SUBSTANCE LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE, WHICH ALERTED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 22,183.
2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA, VERY FAST IDLE SPEED WHEN COLD AND WHEN FIRST STARTED. *TR
MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA ACCESS CAB ON 11/25/06 AT TOYOTA OF FORT WORTH TEXAS . LESS THAN 6 DAYS LATER, WE WERE DRIVING HOME ON A STREET THAT LEADS TO OUR HOUSE,LESS THAN A MILE, WE HAVE BEEN TRAVELING THIS ROAD FOR AT LEAST 15 YEARS. IT WAS SLIGHTLY RAINING, WE APPROACHED THE CURVE TO THE LEFT ON THIS ROAD. MADE THE CURVE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WHEELS BROKE LOOSE, MY HUSBAND TRIED TO CORRECT BUT THE TRUCK BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, THEN TURNED COMPLETELY SIDEWAYS AND CRASHED INTO TWO TREES THAT WERE LESS THAN 5 FEET FROM THE ROAD. IT ALSO APPEARS THAT THE 4 WHEEL ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WASN'T WORKING. *JB
2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA - BALL JOINT FAILURE CAUSING BALL JOINT TO BREAK AND WHEEL TO COME OFF. THIS ALSO DAMAGES THE FENDER ON WHICH EVER SIDE THE BALL JOINT BREAKS. TOYOTA ADDED MORE BOLTS AND PIECES TO THE BALL JOINT BUT IT DIDN'T MAKE THE JOINT STRONGER AND COULD HAPPEN QUIET FREQUENTLY UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED BY TOYOTA. IT STARTS WITH THE STEERING BECOMING HARD TO HANDLE AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN YOUR WHEEL FALLS OFF. THANKFULLY WE WERE IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND NOT GOING VERY FAST. *JB
2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA:WHEN CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED, ANY HILL OR EVEN MINOR INCLINE INITIATES A DOWNSHIFT OF ONE OR TWO GEARS ACCOMPANIED BY FULL THROTTLE ACCELERATION DOES NOT OCCUR, EVEN ON MAJOR HILLS SANS CRUISE CONTROL. DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL. ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN BEFORE AN ACCIDENT/DEATH OCCURS. *NM
THE DAY I DROVE MY 2006 TUNDRA OFF OF THE LOT I NOTICED THAT WHEN I AM AT A COMPLETE STOP (RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN FOR EXAMPLE) WITH MY FOOT COMPLETELY PRESSING ON THE BRAKE, THE RPM'S RISE OUT OF NO WHERE. IN OTHER WORDS, THE TRUCK LUNGES FORWARD WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP. I HAVE REPORTED TO THREE DEALERSHIPS, THOSE THAT I TAKE MY TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE TO, AND THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE TRUCK FROM. I FIRST COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS DURING THE FIRST WEEK AFTER I PURCHASED IT. I HAVE REQUESTED THAT THE SERVICE CLERKS INCLUDE THIS IN THE NOTES, AND COMPLAINS SECTIONS WHEN I TAKE IN THE TRUCK. I REQUESTED THIS TO DOCUMENT MY TRUCK'S ACTIONS. *TR
SATURDAY AFTERNOON 30 SEPT 2006 AT ABOUT 3:00 PM, I JUST HAD MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA LIMITED WASHED AT A FACILITY IN CONROE, TX. I DEPARTED, THERE DROVE ABOUT A HALF A MILE AT A SPEED OF 15-20 MPH AND HAD A BLOWOUT ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE OF MY VEHICLE. WHILE HAVING THIS TIRE CHANGED BY AAA I WAS ROBBED BY TWO BLACK THUGS WHO TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE DISABLED SITUATION. IT WAS WITNESSED BY THE TIRE CHANGER AND IT WAS SO BOLD THAT WE WERE UNABLE TO GET THE TAG NUMBER OR TOTAL DESCRIPTION OF THE VEHICLE EXCEPT MAKE, COLOR, AND GENERAL DESCRIPTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE CONROE, TX POLICE DEPARTMENT. TIRES ARE KEPT AT PROPER PRESSURE, MAINTAINED BY ME AND THE TOYOTA EQUIPPED PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM. SINCE THIS HAD NO CAUSE EXCEPT FAILURE OF THE TIRE, MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE ON BRIDGESTONE EXTENDED MILEAGE TIRES THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE. SO AT 17,000 MILES I WAS FORCED TO PURCHASE 4 NEW DIFFERENT BRAND TIRES TO PROVIDE FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. THIS MANUFACTURERS FLAW CAUSED ME TO GET ROBBED AND PLACED ME IN UNNECESSARY DANGER OF BEING KILLED OR INJURED WHILE OUTSIDE OF A DISABLED VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT BRIDGESTONE SOLD TO TOYOTA A DEFECTIVE TIRE WHICH WAS INSTALLED ON MY VEHICLE. I HAVE TO ONLY ASSUME THAT THE OTHER THREE MAY HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. I WANT BRIDGESTONE TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF REPLACING THE ENTIRE FOUR TIRES AT A COST OF $827.73. *JB

DEFECTIVE 4 WHEEL DRIVE FROM FACTORY. TWO DAYS AFTER PURCHASE I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE. I ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND IT WAS NOT OPERATING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS REPAIRED AFTER 6 DAYS IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I WAS TOLD THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE ENGAGING UNIT WAS INSTALLED IMPROPERLY AT THE FACTORY CAUSING IT TO FAIL WHICH ALSO CAUSED THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT TO FAIL. BOTH UNITS WERE REPLACED. I ASKED THE DEALER WHY THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE UNIT WAS NOT TESTED BEFORE LEAVING THE FACTORY OR DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS SYSTEM IS NOT TESTED AT THE FACTORY OR DURING DEALER PREPARATION. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 5 MPH; WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE ABS ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE DROVE UP OVER THE TOP OF A ROCK CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE SKID PLATE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT TAKEN. THE DEALERSHIP WAS INFORMED.
MY 2006 TUNDRA TRUCK LOST CONTROL WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ON 9/11/2006. IT HAPPENED VERY SUDDENLY. MY TRUCK ROLLED OVER A COUPLE TIMES AND STOPPED UPSIDE DOWN IN THE HIGHWAY. MY TRUCK WAS ALL DAMAGED DUE TO THE STEERING PROBLEM. NOW I CAN'T USE IT ANYMORE. *NM

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT HAD THE RACK & PINION REPLACED 4 ADDITIONAL TIMES PRIOR TO THE RECENT FAILURE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT RETURN TO THE NORMAL POSITION AFTER MAKING A LEFT TURN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 35,000.
MY COMPLAINT IS AGAINST THE RULING. "THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION HAS RULED THAT TOYOTA MUST RECALL NEARLY 160,000 TUNDRA PICKUPS BUILT BETWEEN 2003 AND 2005 IN ORDER TO DEACTIVATE THE FRONT-SEAT PASSENGER AIR BAG CUT-OFF SWITCH IN EACH TRUCK. THE TUNDRA'S FAIL TO MEET ANY NHTSA REGULATIONS THAT REQUIRE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIR BAG CUT-OFF SWITCHES TO ALSO HAVE LATCH (LOWER ANCHORAGES AND TETHERS FOR CHILDREN) SYSTEMS. DEACTIVATING THE CUT-OFF SWITCHES WAS DEEMED LESS EXPENSIVE THAN RETROFITTING THE TUNDRA'S WITH THE LATCH SYSTEM." GREAT RULING, HOW DOES THIS PROTECT MY 6 YEAR OLD SITTING IN THE FRONT, IN A BOOSTER SEAT USING THE SEAT BELT. BOOSTER SEATS DON'T REQUIRE A LATCH SYSTEM BUT HIS WEIGHT IS BELOW WHAT IS CONSIDERED SAFE FOR AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. MY SCENARIO IS EXACTLY WHAT THE CUTOFF SWITCH WAS INTENDED FOR, MY 6 YEAR OLD OCCASIONALLY RIDING IN THE FRONT WITH ME. THIS RULING HAS CAUSED TOYOTA TO FACTORY DISABLE THE FRONT SWITCH IN MY '06 DOUBLE CAB TUNDRA, MAKING THE FRONT SEAT VERY UNSAFE FOR A CHILD IN A BOOSTER SEAT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE DRIVER-SIDE ALL WEATHER FLOOR-MAT BECAME STUCK UNDERNEATH OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE THEN ACCELERATED UP TO 110 MPH. HE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON, PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND THEN PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. IT TOOK 1/4 OF A MILE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AFTER HE DISCONTINUED VEHICLE OPERATION HE REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT FROM UNDER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. HE CONTACTED THE DEALER, BUT THEY DID NOT IDENTIFY A REMEDY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
05/20/06 DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 62 MPH WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON. SUDDENLY TRUCK SIMPLY SHUTS OFF. IT WAS AS IF KEY HAD BEEN TURNED OFF. ALL SYSTEMS WERE DEAD. DRIFTED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND CAME TO A STOP. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES OF CONTINUED ATTEMPTS WAS ABLE TO START TRUCK AND RETURNED HOME. DEALER CAME WITH REPLACEMENT SUV AND TOOK TRUCK BACK TO DEALERSHIP. HAVE HEARD NOTHING SINCE. SUGGESTED THEY REPLACE COMPUTER MODULE, AS REPLACING FUEL PUMP DID NOT ELIMINATE PROBLEM. *NM
THURSDAY 5/11/06 IDLE UPON START UP GOES TO 2000 RPM, AND STAYS THERE FOR APPROXIMATELY 1-1 1/2 MINUTES, BEFORE SLOWING DROPPING DOWN TO AROUND 1500 RPM. IT SEEMED TO REALLY BE STRAINING AGAINST THE BRAKE, WHEN I PUT IT INTO DRIVE, AGAIN, NOT THE FEEL IT HAD WHEN IT WAS BRAND NEW. FRIDAY 5/12/06 IT NOT ONLY HAD THE HIGH IDLE, BUT WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SEEMED TO HAVE A RANDOM SURGE WHILE DRIVING. COULDN'T DETECT A PATTERN TO IT, WHETHER ON INCLINE, DECLINE, OR FLAT ROADWAY. UPON ARRIVING AT WORK, I PLACED THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK, AND IDLE WAS APPROXIMATELY 750 RPM (BY DASH TACH) WHEN SUDDENLY IT RACED UP TO 1500 RPM, STAY THERE FOR ABOUT 30 - 45 SECONDS, THEN RETURNED TO 750 RPM. THIS SURGE SITUATION CERTAINLY PRESENTS A POSSIBLE SAFETY PROBLEM, IF THE SURGE WAS TO OVERRIDE THE BRAKE PRESSURE AND LURCH FORWARD AT STOP, OR IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC. *JB
THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN A ACCIDENT AS FAR AS I KNOW AND I BOUGHT IT NEW WITH APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I AM THE ONLY OWNER. SINCE THE DAY I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT THERE HAS BEEN A SLIGHT TO SEVERE SHIMMY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. EVERY TIME I BROUGHT IT IN THEY WOULD BALANCE THE WHEELS AND ADD HALF A WHEEL CIRCUMFERENCE OF LEAD TO ONE OR MORE OF THE WHEELS. TWO DIFFERENT SERVICE DEPARTMENTS HAVE TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO IT IS WHAT IT IS. IT CAUSES MY TIRES TO WEAR PREMATURELY WHICH THE DEALERSHIP BLAMES ON POOR TIRE PSI. I CHANGED OUT THE AFTERMARKET 20" BBS WHEELS THE DEALERSHIP PUT ON AND PUT 18" WHEELS ON THINKING IT MAY HELP AND IT DIDN'T. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THEY CANNOT HELP SINCE I PUT AFTERMARKET WHEELS ON WHICH I RESPONDED BBS ARE AFTERMARKET WHEELS. THEY AGREED AND SAID BUT WE MODIFY THE SUSPENSION TO WORK WITH THE 20" BBS WHEELS. I'VE BEEN GETTING THIS RUN AROUND SINCE I TOOK DELIVERY AND ALL I WANT IS TO GET THE SHIMMY TO STOP AND EXTEND THE LIFE OF MY TIRES. *TR

2006 TUNDRA - HAVE HAD TRUCK ONLY 2 WEEKS AND TOOK ROAD TRIP. WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL AND STARTING UP A MODEST HILL VEHICLE WILL KICK DOWN FROM OVERDRIVE INTO DRIVE, EVEN THOUGH W/O CRUISE VEHICLE CAN HANDLE HILL FINE IN OVERDRIVE. THIS WILL BRING RPMS FROM 2000 TO 3000. THIS IS MERELY ANNOYING. SOMETIMES WILL KICK DOWN PAST DRIVE AND INTO 3RD GEAR, BRINGING RPMS TO 5000 AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY ON HILL. THIS SEEMS UNSAFE, ESPECIALLY IN CROWDED OR WET CONDITIONS. HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER TUNDRA OWNERS ONLINE. ALL SAY DEALER AND TOYOTA CLAIM THIS IS "NORMAL." 2006 TUNDRA PROBLEM ACCELERATED RAPIDLY AWAY FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN ORDER TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC, REACHING A SPEED OF 65 TO 70 MPH AT THAT TIME. DROVE FOR ABOUT TWO MILES, TURNED INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND UP MY STREET. PARKED TRUCK IN DRIVEWAY, NO IDIOT LIGHTS AT THAT TIME, GAUGES WERE NORMAL. AFTER ABOUT 20-30 MINUTES ATTEMPTED TO RESTART TRUCK. IT WOULD CRANK STRONGLY, BEGIN TO START, SPUTTER AND DIE. ATTEMPTED SEVERAL MORE TIMES, WITH SAME RESULT. IT ACTED LIKE IT WAS NOT GETTING FUEL. AFTER 10-15 MINUTES OF COOL DOWN, IT STILL REFUSED TO START. FINALLY MANAGED TO GET IT STARTED BY PUMPING GAS PEDAL AND REPEATEDLY CRANKING. FINALLY IT CAUGHT, BUT REQUIRED REVVING TO STAY RUNNING. AT LAST IT SETTLED DOWN TO AN IDLE. TUNDRA PROBLEMS CONTINUED: FRIDAY 4/14/06 ACCELERATED GRADUALLY AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT DOWN AN EXIT RAMP AND ONTO THE HIGHWAY. TRUCK BEGAN HESITATING OR STUMBLING FOR ABOUT 30 SEC., THEN SMOOTHED OUT. SATURDAY 4/15 /06 TURNED RIGHT AND BEGAN ACCELERATING UP AN INCLINE WITH FULL LOAD OF PASSENGERS. TRUCK BEGAN STUMBLING; ACTING LIKE IT WAS NOT GETTING FUEL, UPON COMING TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT, IT STALLED WHEN I CAME TO A STOP. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, IT WAS LIKE I HAD TURNED OFF THE KEY. MANAGED TO GET IT STARTED, AND IT RAN THE REST OF THAT EVENING WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS OCCURRED ABOUT 6:00 P.M. AND THE AIR TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE LOW 80S. TUESDAY 4/18/06 WAS DRIVING AROUND THE BALTIMORE BELTWAY AT SPEED, WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN MISSING AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. THIS CONTINUED FOR AT LEAST TWO, AND POSSIBLY THREE MINUTES. TRAFFIC SUDDENLY CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. AT THIS POINT, THE ENGINE DIED, AND AGAIN THERE WAS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE ENGINE JUST TURNED OFF. 4/19/06 ON THE DRIVE FROM OWINGS MILLS TO WALDORF, I NEEDED TO PASS A TRUCK TOWING A BOAT. AS I PRESSED ON THE GAS, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO STUMBLE AGAIN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. *JB

THE REAR BUMPER WAS DAMAGED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER STATED THEY WERE ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER NOT TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS HAD THREE TRANSMISSIONS SINCE PURCHASE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000. UPDATED 11/9/10 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED THREE TIMES. SHE ALSO STATED THERE WERE TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD JUST TAKE OFF AT A HIGH SPEED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS TAPPED LIGHTLY. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE ENGINE WOULD RACE EXTREMELY HIGH. THE HIGH IDLE WOULD ALSO EFFECT THE WAY THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO GEAR. I HAVE A FIBERGLASS CAP ON THE BED OF MY PICKUP TRUCK. WHEN IT RAINS OR SNOWS, OR DURING ANY INCLEMENT WEATHER, I CAN NOT SEE OUT THE BACK WINDOW OF THE CAP. THERE IS NO WIPER FOR THE BACK WINDOW.. ALL SUV TYPE VEHICLES HAVE A WIPER, BUT NOT TRUCK CAPS. WHY? I UNDERSTAND THAT YOUR FMVSS NO. 111, REAR VIEW MIRRORS, STATES THAT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE OUT THE REAR WINDOW, TO THE HORIZON, CLEARLY. WITHOUT A WIPER THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE. WHEN THE CAPS ARE INSTALLED ON THE TRUCKS IT BLOCKS THE UPPER BRAKE LIGHT, AND YOU MADE THE CAP MANUFACTURERS PUT AN UPPER REAR BRAKE LIGHT ON THE BACK OF THE CAPS. SINCE THE CAP MANUFACTURERS ARE IN VIOLATION OF THE RULE, YOU SHOULD FORCE THEM TO INSTALL WIPERS ON ALL THEIR CAPS. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I READ ON A MICHELIN WIPER BLADE ADVERTISEMENT THAT 40% OF ALL ACCIDENTS ARE CAUSED BY REDUCED VISION. A WIPER SYSTEM IS AVAILABLE ON WWW.TRUCKCAPWIPER.COM.THEY SHOULD BUY THEM THERE AND INSTALL THEM ON ALL CAPS.
"TAKATA INFLATOR RECALL" TOYOTA DEALERS HAVE NOT REPLACED THE RECALLED INFLATORS ON MY VEHICLE. THIS PUTS US IN DANGER OF AFOREMENTIONED AIR BAG INFLATOR, CAUSING A DANGEROUS INJURY. WE NEED ASSISTANCE.
2006 TUNDRA 4 DOOR OVERSPEED WHEN DRIVING IN CRUISE CONTROL. WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON AND APPROACHING A SLIGHT INCLINE, THE VEHICLE WILL DROP INTO PASSING GEAR AND THE THROTTLE WILL GO TO FULL THROTTLE. THIS WILL CAUSE THE OPERATOR TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY ON A RAIN SLICK ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES, AND ALTHOUGH I AM AWARE THAT IT COULD HAPPEN, IT STILL STARTLES ME WHEN IT OCCURS. IF CLOSE BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE, THIS COULD LEAD TO AN REAR END ACCIDENT. THE NORMAL PROGRESSION SHOULD BE DROPPING OUT OF OVERDRIVE, WITH A GRADUAL ACCELERATION TO MAINTAIN SET SPEED, AND THEN BACK TO OVERDRIVE WHEN SET SPEED IS OBTAINED. DEALER CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY CLAIMED THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION. DOCUMENTED WITH TOYOTA DEALER, AND NOW WITH NHTSA. WHEN ACCIDENT OCCURS AS A RESULT OF THIS OVERSPEED, HOPEFULLY TOYOTA WILL RESET THE COMPUTER CONTROL MODULE TO FIX PROBLEM. *JB
LTR FROM (TX) REPORTING PROBLEMS WITH HIS 2006 TUNDRA MOTOR VEHICLE. *TS THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS A PROBLEM DOWN SHIFTING 2 GEARS ON MINOR GRADE FOR NO REASON, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO REV TO OVER 4000 RPMS. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THE BRAKE WILL FADE WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE STOPPING DISTANCE ON THE VEHICLE WAS MUCH LONGER THAN ANY OTHER VEHICLE THE CONSUMER HAD DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS GETTING VERY POOR GAS MILEAGE. THERE WAS AN ODOR FROM THE AIR CONDITION. THE TIRE SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED, BUT IT WAS RESOLVED.
