THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT DUE TO THE POROSITY IN THE INTERIOR OF THE WHEELS, AIR WOULD LEAK OUT FROM THE WHEELS CAUSING THE TIRES TO DEFLATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE CHEST. THE POLICE REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO AVOID A CRASH WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED THE VEHICLE INTO A POLE. THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. DURING THE CRASH, THE CONTACT'S CHEST ENCOUNTERED THE STEERING WHEEL AND CAUSED HEART INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SPONTANEOUS DEPLOYMENT OF THE CURTAIN AIR BAGS WHILE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. *SMD THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE ONBOARD SENSOR DETECTED A SEVERE ROLL OVER EVENT, WHICH WAS INCORRECT. UPDATED 10/31/13 TOYOTA REFUSED TO HONOR THE CONSUMERS CLAIM. UPDATED 12/04/13
WHILE TOWING A TRAVEL TRAILER ON A MOUNTAIN PASS FREEWAY IN WA STATE WITH NO SHOULDER. GOING UP THE HILL AND STARTED TO PUT THE FOOT DOWN ON GAS TO GET SPEED UP FOR THE UPCOMING STEEP HILL, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND ALL POWER WAS LOST, ENGINE WENT INTO LIMP MODE WITH NO PLACE TO PULL OVER. I HAD TO TRAVEL AT 8MPH, UP THE HILL UNTIL I FOUND A SUITABLE PULL OUT SPOT FOR THE TRUCK AND 30FT TRAILER. I WAS ALMOST WAS REAR ENDED MULTIPLE TIMES EVEN WITH EMERGENCY FLASHERS GOING. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2X, BOTH IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. THE FIRST TIME WAS ONLY A FEW MONTHS AFTER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY RAN OUT IN AND THE DEALER WAS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP OUT. BUT THEY WERE MORE THAN HAPPY TO CHARGE $100 TO TELL ME IT WOULD COST $4200 TO REPAIR IT, INCLUDING THE SECONDARY $1800 EGC VACUUM PUMP, WHICH ONLY RUNS, AS THE DEALER TOLD ME, 30-45 SECONDS AT START UP, THEN THE PUMP DOES NOTHING. WHY DOES THIS OCCUR AFTER RUNNING 2+ HOURS?? THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED, I WAS TOWING THE SAME TRAILER AT THE EXACT SAME PLACE ENDING UP GOING ONLY 8 MPH UPHILL AGAIN ON THE HIWAY W/60MPH LIMIT!! THIS TIME AT THE ADVICE OF A FRIEND, ONCE OUT OF TRAFFIC. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR 10 MINUTES, RECONNECTED IT AND THE COMPUTER HAD RESET ITSELF AND THE TRUCK RAN FINE THE LAST 45 MINUTES HOME. I NO LONGER TRAVEL THAT ROAD WITH NO SHOULDER AS I AM AFRAID IT'S GOING TO CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM IN THE 05-06 MODELS. YET ARE FIXING IT UNDER RECALL ON 07+ MODELS BUT WON'T HELP ANYONE ELSE WITH AN '06 OR OLDER. THIS IS MY 3RD TOYOTA AND LAST. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I HAD 60000 MILES, THE 2ND TIME IT WAS AT 68500 MILES. I ONLY HAVE 87500 ON IT NOW, AT 10 1/2 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. I AM ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR A TRUCK THAT HAS A COMPANY THAT WILL STAND BEHIND ITS BRAND. I'M DONE WITH TOYOTA. THEY STILL HAVEN'T FIXED MY AIRBAGS EITHER!!
ALL FOUR RIMS ARE THE ALLOY WHEEL . THEY ARE ALL BLISTERING AND PIECES OF RIMS ARE FALLING OUT. CALLED TOYOTA THEY TOLD IN SHORT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THEM AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THEY ALSO WOULD NOT COMMENT IF THERE WERE OTHERS COMPLAINTS ON THE RIMS. THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO UNTIL THEY ARE IN RECALL. *TR
DEALERSHIP SAYS VEHICLE CAN GO INTO "LIMP HOME MODE" REDUCING POWER AND LIMITING SPEED TO 40MPH. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IN TRAFFIC, OR IN REMOTE PLACES, THIS CREATES A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. ISSUE APPEARS TO BE "AIR INJECTION PUMP" AND/OR RELATED VALVES. THIS IS A WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE WITH THE TOYOTA TUNDRA ENCOUNTERED BY OWNERS OF THE 2005 AND 2006 TUNDRA, AND SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN AN EARLIER EXPANDED WARRANTY PROGRAM. REPAIRS ARE HOWEVER OUT OF WARRANTY, ARE POTENTIALLY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, AND SHOULD BE COVERED IN PREVIOUS TOYOTA PROGRAM. *TR
AFTER DRIVING 10 MILES TO TOWN AT SPEEDS OF 60MPH DROPPED TRUCK OFF AT MECHANICS SHOP BECAUSE WAS STEERING HARD. MECHANIC GOT INTO TRUCK TO DRIVE IT INTO SHOP, LOWER BALL JOINT SNAPPED OFF WHEN HE PUT IT INTO REVERSE THE FRONT END DROPPED, COULD NOT STEER AT ALL, HAD TO PUT TRUCK IN SHOP WITH WRECKER. THE NIGHT BEFORE THIS I WAS DOING 70 MPH IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. WAS THERE A CRASH? NO, BUT THERE SURE COULD HAVE BEEN. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2006 TUNDRA LOWER BALL JOINTS, TOYOTA SAYS MY TRUCK IS NOT IN RECALL, SHOULD HAVE BEEN. *TR
I HAD JUST PULLED INTO A GAS STATION AND COME TO A STOP WHEN THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK DROPPED AND LANDED ON THE TIRE. THE LOWER BALL JOINT SNAPPED. THEIR WAS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM...MY QUESTION IS DID THEY REALLY IMPROVE THIS PART ENOUGH TO MAKE IT ROAD WORTHY...THE PARTS ARE STILL BREAKING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 165,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 166,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. *TR
SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP IS MAKING A LOUD HUMMING NOISE AT A COLD START UP. I PULLED THE ERROR CODES. P2441, P1445 AND P1442. I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THE COST FOR THE NEW PUMP IS $2300. THAT IS SUCH A BIG EXPENSE FOR A 7 OLD TRUCK AND TO HAVE IT REPAIRED WILL BE MORE THAN $3200. I BELIEVE THAT THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE PART ARE FLAWED AND REPLACEMENT SHOULD BE COVERED BY TOYOTA. *TR ## VIN FAILED ##
NOTICED THAT 1 OF MY REAR LEAF SPRING "LEAFS" HAD BROKEN IN HALF - TOTALLY. CALLED DEALER TOLD OUT OF WARRANTY. TRUCK WAS 4-5 YR.S OLD W/LOW MILAGE. BY SHEAR LUCK I NOTICED IT. HAD I NOT NOTICED IT I BELIEVE IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR PROBLEM POSSIBLY WITH GAS TANK OR PERHAPS TIRE. *JS
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. BRAKES HAD WORKED FINE WHEN VEHICLE WAS PARKED. WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ON DASH, NO INDICATION THAT BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY (TOYOTA PART NUMBER 470500C03) HAD FAILED OR WAS FAILING. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND SHOWED DIAGNOSTIC CODES C0200,215 AND 1223. DEALER CONFIRMED NO WARNING LIGHTS TO INDICATE THIS CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE. UNDER DIFFERENT TRAFFIC OR DRIVING CONDITIONS, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS OR FATAL EVENT. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED ONLY BY THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED NEW, AT EVERY RECOMMENDED INTERVAL, AND NEVER MISSED ANY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE TODAY AT 800-331-4331 (REF #[XXX])AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD NO RECORD OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. REPETITIVE GROWLING/WHIRRING SOUND WITH VIBRATION AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AT THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF VEHICLE. TAKEN TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. NO PROBLEMS FOUND OR NOTED. TAKEN BACK TO DEALER - SAME SYMPTOMS DIAGNOSED AS BAD FRONT DIFFERENTIAL IN NEED OF REBUILDING/REPLACEMENT. *TR
I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND BEGAN TO DRIVE DOWN THE STREET. MY TRUCK LIGHT CAME ON AND I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE I LOST POWER. I TOOK IT TO REPAIR SHOP AND GOT THE CODE OF 2445. WHEN I TALKED TO TOYOTA I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A FAULTY AIR PUMP AND 3 VALVES FOR THE AIR OPERATED INJECTOR SYSTEM A $3500 DOLLAR REPAIR. I WAS TOLD THAT MOISTURE GETS INTO THE PUMP WHICH CAUSES THE PUMP TO SEND INSULATION INTO THE VALVES. THIS SENDS THE VEHICLE INTO LIMP MODE CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER. I'M LUCKY I WAS NOT ON THE INTERSTATE OR IT MAY HAVE KILLED ME. TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS DEFECT AND REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. THEY CHANGED THE WAY IT IS CONFIGURED IN THE NEWER MODELS AND ISSUED A RECALL FOR THOSE BUT REFUSE TO FIX THE OLDER MODELS. THIS IS A CLEAR LACK OF SAFETY ON THEIR PART. IF THIS WAS TO OCCUR ON THE INTERSTATE THEN PEOPLE WILL GET HURT. I ASK YOU TO SEEK OUT TOYOTA FOR THE SAFETY OF DRIVERS AND MAKE THEM RECALL THESE PARTS. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
'2006 TUNDRA DBL CAB LIMITED 2X4' THE GEARS IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL BROKE BACK IN JULY 2012 AT 55000 MILES, TOYOTA DEALER REPAIRED IT JUST AS MY WARRANTY WAS ABOUT TO EXPIRE THEN IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN ON 10-9-14 AT 71000 MILES, EXACTLY 8 YEARS OF THE DATE WHEN I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN 10-9-06. ONLY 16000 MILES ON THE NEW GEARS. EITHER THE TOYOTA DEALER DIDN'T REPAIR IT RIGHT OR THE TUNDRAS HAVE CRAPPY DIFFERENTIALS. ILL NEVER PURCHASE A TOYOTA AGAIN, PLUS THEY'RE OVER PRICED. *TR

NO HELP FROM DEALERSHIP OR TOYOTA. 2007-2011 TUNDRAS HAVE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND TOYOTA EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 150,00 MILES. WON'T AGREE TO EXTEND TO 2006 OR LATER MODELS. *TR

THE FRAME AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS HAVE AN ABUNDANCE OF RUST ON THEM. FLAKES OF METAL ARE DROPPING/PEALING OFF AND THE RUST HAS SPREAD TO ALL PARTS OF THE FRAME AND IS PREVALENT AROUND WELDS ON THE SUSPENSION PARTS. THIS CONCERNS ME DUE TO THE WELDS BEING THE MAIN COMPONENT THAT BONDS TOGETHER THE SUSPENSION PIECES. THE FRAME IS SHOWING AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF RUST FOR SUCH A YOUNG VEHICLE AND POSES A SAFETY RISK TO ME. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS RECALLED REGARDING THE CHASSIS. THE REPAIR CONSISTED OF SPRAYING A SUBSTANCE THAT WOULD PREVENT RUST FROM OCCURRING. THE VEHICLE RECEIVED THE RECALL REPAIR. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. THE CERTIFIED MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE CHASSIS WAS DAMAGED TO THE POINT OF NO RETURN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD ALREADY RECEIVED THE RECALL REPAIR, THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT OBLIGATED TO PROVIDE ANOTHER REPAIR. THE VIN AND RECALL DETAILS WERE UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVESHAFT FAILRED, CAUSING THE VIBRATION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 80,600. THE VIN INFORMATION WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA SXP HAS HAD A BATTERY KILLING SYMPTOM SINCE I PURCHASED BACK IN 2006. I DID NOT REALIZED THE "CAUSE" AFTER IT KEPT REPEATING MANY TIMES DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. BATTERY WILL BE EXHAUSTED (DIED) WHEN PASSENGER DOOR WAS OPEN AND CLOSE WITHOUT OPEN AND CLOSE THE DRIVER DOOR. IN OTHER WORD, IF ONLY THE PASSENGER DOOR WAS OPEN AND CLOSE AND THE DRIVER DOOR IS UNTOUCHED, THEN THE BATTERY SURELY DIED. QUALITY TOYOTA DEALER HAS BEEN SWAPPING BATTERIES (MAYBE 3 TIMES). MY LAST SERVICE WAS ABOUT A MONTH AGO WITH THE SAME SYMPTOM AFTER A NEW ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED AND WAS PROMISED THAT THIS SHOULD BE THE CAUSE. SAME SYMPTOM HAPPENED A WEEK AFTER THIS LAST SERVICE (11/18/2011). THE TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGER [XXX] AND HIS SERVICE ASSISTANT [XXX] AT QUALITY IMPORT KEPT TELLING ME THAT THE TRUCK HAVE TO BE TURNED ENGINE ON DAILY FOR ABOUT AN HOUR FOR THE BATTERY TO RETAIN ITS POWER? FAULT DESIGNED/RECALLED? I HAVE HAD MANY TOYOTAS, NONE OF THEM NEEDS TO DO SUCH THING EVEN PARKED FOR 3 TO 4 WEEK, INCLUDING OUR 2000 SIENNA WITH MORE THAN 130,000 MILES, AND ALSO INCLUDING THE CHEVROLET CARGO 1500XPRESS (>23000 MILES). MY 2006 TUNDRA WITH JUST OVER 22,300 ORIGINAL MILES. WE HAVE BEEN SCARE TO DRIVE IT ON A LONG TRIP AND/OR TO ANY WHERE THAT WE MAY HAVE TO PARK FOR A FEW HOURS. WE ALWAYS HAVE A JUMPER CABLE IN THE CAR IN CASE THE BATTERY WENT BAD AND/OR DRAINED DOWN AND COULD NOT START UP. WE HAVE CONTACTED QUALITY TOYOTA SERVICE [XXX] [XXX], AND HAVE ALSO REQUESTED IF HIS SERVICE MANAGER, [XXX], CAN CONTACT US FOR A RESOLUTION, BUT WE HAVE BEEN IGNORED SINCE DECEMBER 20TH, 2011. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT NORMAL SPEED OF 65 MPH; SUDDENLY I NOTICED AN INCREASE IN RPM'S AND A PULL OF THE TRUCK, KIND OF PULLING BACK AND FORTH. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER ONLINE POSTS WHERE TUNDRA OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM SINCE THE TRUCK MAY PULL OR HESITATE AT ANY GIVEN TIME AND THE POSSIBILITY OF LOSING CONTROL AND CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY EXISTS. ON DATE STATED, 7/12/11, I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR OIL CHANGE AT THE GRAND BLANC MOTORCAR TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. TECH CAME OUT TO INFORM ME THERE WAS DISCOLORATION IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID AND I SHOULD HAVE THE FLUID CHANGED. I SAID OKAY. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD 2 YEARS OF REAR END VIBRATION AND CHATTER IN MY FIRST DRIVE OF THE MORNING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY UPON HEARING AND FEELING THE VIBRATION. THEY HAD ME BRING IT BACK AND THEY REPLACED THE FLUID AND PLACED AN ADDITIVE AND SAID IT SHOULD BE FINE. IT HAS NOT BEEN FINE AS THEY REPLACED THE FLUID A THIRD TIME AND LAST YEAR I HAD MIDAS LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AND THEY REPLACED THE FLUID. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A SET OF WEATHERTECK FRONT FLOOR MATS PART # W40 FOR MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. I ORDERED THESE MATS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THEY WERE A CUSTOM FIT MAT FOR MY VEHICLE. THEY INCLUDE THE NECESSARY HOOKS TO ATTACH THE MAT TO THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR. BUT THIS IS CONSIDERED A "GENERIC" MAT AND SOLD FOR ALL TYPES OF VEHICLES. WITH THE PURCHASER RESPONSIBLE FOR MODIFYING THEM IF NECESSARY. THE DESIGN OF THE MAT POSITIONS THE RIGHT EDGE DIRECTLY UNDER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR IT WILL HANG ON THE RIGHT EDGE OF THE MAT. ON THE WEATHERTECH WEB SITE IT SHOWS 2 PICTURES OF THE W40 MAT. ONE OF MY CARGO LIGHTS IN THE REAR CENTER OF THE CAB BURNT OUT AND I WENT TO REPLACE IT. WHEN I TOOK THE COVER OFF I NOTICED WHAT LOOKED LIKE PLASTIC ON THE LIGHT BULB THAT WAS BURNT OUT. SO I TOOK A CLOSER LOOK INSIDE AND I NOTICED ABOVE THE LIGHT BULB THAT THE PLASTIC HAD MELTED AND IT WAS THE SAME WAY OVER THE OTHER LIGHT BULB. NOW THERE IS A HOLE IN THE PLASTIC ABOVE EACH LIGHT BULB. SO AFTER I PUT THE COVER BACK ON I MADE THE LIGHTS COME ON BY OPENING THE TRUCK DOOR AND I FELT THE COVER AND IT WAS VERY HOT TO THE TOUCH. AFTER PICKING UP MY VEHICLE ON JANUARY 8, 2010 THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED, I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER ON JANUARY 12, 2010 FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER CONTACTED TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND ON FEBRUARY 1, 2010, AGAIN, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DONE TO MY VEHICLE; THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS TO SOME VEHICLES.
