SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING UNDER 30MPH. ENGINE NO LONGER STARTS CORRECTLY. ONLY 51,000 MILES. AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY AND AIR SWITCHING VALVES ERROR CODE. (P0418) KNOWN DEFUNCT PARTS FOR 2007 TUNDRAS WHICH TOYOTA EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. WARRANTY NOT SUFFICIENT LENGTH FOR THIS MODEL YEAR FOR LOW MILEAGE VEHICLES. COULD NOT HAVE HAD PROPERLY FIXED UNTIL CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. HOWEVER, PARTS FAIL AT 50K+ MILES. PLEASE EXTEND WARRANTY TO APPROPRIATE LENGTH FOR THIS ISSUE. NUMEROUS SIMILAR INSTANCES NOTED UPON INTERNET RESEARCH.
WE RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE FROM TOYOTA TO SAY THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM VALVE STUCK OPEN, WE CONTACTED THEM, THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER THE MILEAGE, BUT, UNDER THE YEAR OF MANUFACTURE, THIS WAS RELAYED TO US ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, VERBALLY, TOYOTA SEEMS RELUCTANT TO PUT IT IN WRITING. THE PROBLEM THEY SAID IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY SENSOR INSTALLED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ASSEMBLED. WHEN THE SENSOR TRIGGERS, THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER IMMEDIATELY, THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS WHEN OVERTAKING FOR EXAMPLE. ON BOTH OCCASIONS THE VERBAL MESSAGE WE RECEIVE SAYS TOYOTA WILL NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THEY SENT A RECALL LETTER, AND THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY SENSOR INSTALLED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED. WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK TO LAS VEGAS AUG, 2018 WAS PASSING A LINE OF SEMI'S GOING TO SLOW AFTER PASSING ABOUT 3 OF THEM THE ENGINE JUST STOPPED RUNNING, HAD TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD FAST, AFTER MAKING IT THERE THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START AGAIN. AFTER AN HOUR OR SO IT STARTED. MADE IT TO VEGAS. THE SAME THING HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THAT DAY ALSO THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHTS SUCH AS "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT THAT CAME ON.THIS TRUCK WAS BOUGHT NEW IN 2008, WHEN THE FIRST TIME THAT HAPPENED IT HAD 29080 MILES ON IT, I DON'T DRIVE IT THAT MUCH AS I AM RETIRED SO DON'T DRIVE AS MUCH AS I DID BEFORE.THAT TRIP TO VEGAS COULD HAVE BEEN ALL TO DIFFERENT HAD I NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET OFF FREEWAY, BECAUSE THE STEARING AT 70 MPH IS NOT TOO GOOD, COULD HAVE BEEN BAD ACCIDENT FOR MY WIFE AND MYSELF, AND OTHERS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED. TOYOTA DEALER SAID HE NEVER HEARD OF A PROBLEM LIKE THAT WHEN I CALLED THEM. HAVE SEARCHED SEVERAL WEB SITES AND FOUND COMPLAINTS WITH SAME PROBLEM THEREFORE I BELIEVE TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT IT BUT REFUSES TO REPAIR THEIR PROBLEM. MAYBE THEY NEED A HIGH TOTAL OF DEATHS BEFORE FIXING THEIR PROBLEM. I THINK ITS A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM OR RELATED TO THE ENGINE.
I TOOK MY TRUCK FOR SERVICE AT A TOYOTA TUNDRA AND THE SHOP INFORMED ME THAT MY AIR PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE. I CAN'T GO ABOVE 30 MPH UP HILL AND IT DOESN'T SHIFT CORRECTLY WHEN MY TRUCK IS IN LIMP MODE. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, VEHICLE SWERVE CONTROL LIGHT, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON.
THE EMISSION AIR PUMPS AND VALVES FAILED ON TRUCK WHICH PUT TRUCK IN LIMP MODE WHICH MADE UNSAFE TO DRIVE ONLY ABLE TO GO 20 MPH AND ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT TSB 0329-08 ON HIGHWAY NEEDS TO BE A RECALL
VEHICLE AIR PUMPS ARE CAUSING MY TRUCK TO NOT TAKE OFF CORRECTLY AND WON'T GO OVER 40 MPH GOING UP HILL.
I GOT AN OBD II CODE P2440 SECONDARY AIR INJECTION VALVE STUCK OPEN AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND ALMOST GOT STUCK IN THE ROAD. FROM WHAT I'VE READ THERE ARE QUITE A FEW VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THIS BUT I NEVER GOT A LETTER FROM TOYOTA INDICATING THE ELONGATION OF WARRANTY ON THE AFFECTED PART/S FOR 2007-2010 TUNDRA'S AND SEQUOIAS. ISSUES WITH TOYOTA'S SECONDARY AIR INTAKE PUMP SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR ISSUE. SINCE 2007, NOW TOYOTA HAS CONTROL OVER THE NECESSARY PARTS AND WILL RELEASE AS THEY SEEM FIT. I HAVE WAITED OVER TWO WEEKS TO GET THESE PARTS AND INSTALLED. AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IT WILL BE COULD BE WEEKS. THEY KNOW THAT THE PUMP HAS ISSUES AND WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM TILL IT GOES BAD. AND IF YOUR DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND YOU LOSE POWER THAT COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE. TURNED THE TRUCK ON AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS WERE BOTH ON, 4 LO AND VSC OFF LIGHTS WERE BOTH FLASHING, THE TRUCK SOUNDED NOTICEABLY LOUDER AND NOW HAS A LOSS OF POWER. CODES SHOW P2440. *JS
MY VEHICLE SET A DTC P2440 FOR THE SECONDARY AIR INDUCTION VALVE STUCK OPEN. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS REPAIR IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO WATER INTRUSION. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT MY VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN UNDER WATER OR OFF ROAD. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW/ENGINEERING DEFECT THAT TOYOTA CREATED AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS A RECALL FOR ALL AFFECTED MODELS FOR REPLACEMENT FOR A BETTER OR REDESIGNED PART. THE COST OF REPLACEMENT FOR THE AFFECTED PARTS IS BEYOND REASONABLE FOR ALL TOYOTA OWNERS. TOYOTA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THERE FLAW. 2 AIR INDUCTION PUMPS (AIP) AND ASSOCIATED VALUES FAILURE AROUND 60K MILES. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA THE REASON FOR THE FAILURE IS MOISTURE. NEW PUMPS AND VALVES CAN BE INSTALLED FOR $4000 OR IF YOU ARE LUCKY AND YOU ONLY NEED TO REPLACE ONE PUMP AND BOTH VALVES IT ONLY COST $2150. THE NEW PUMPS AND VALUES HAVE BEEN MODIFIED SO THEY SHOULD NOT FAILURE AS FAST AS ORIGINALS. IF THE NEW PUMPS AND VALVES HAD TO BE "MODIFIED" THEN IT LEADS ONE TO BELIEVE THE ORIGINALS HAD A DESIGN FLAW. *TR
2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4.7L ENGINE P2442 CODE ENGINE IN LIMP MODE. SECONDARY AIR INTAKE VALVE FAILED IN OPEN POSITION. 62000 MILES. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECTIVE SYSTEM THAT FAILS IF DRIVEN IN WET CONDITIONS DUE TO POOR AIR FAN INTAKE DESIGN. IT SITS IN THE WHEEL WELL AND IS WET ALL THE TIME. THIS LEADS TO WATER BEING PUSHED INTO THE AIR VALVE CAUSING IT TO FAIL. *TR

1ST WEEK OF APRIL, 2011, 2007 TUNDRA WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE, HOOKED UP TESTER, SAID P2442 CODE. COMMON PROBLEM, ON THESE TRUCKS, FROM WHAT DEALER TOLD ME. ORDERED PARTS, AT THAT TIME. $1500.00 OF PARTS ORDERED. TOOK 9 WEEKS, TO GET PARTS. A VERY DANGEROUS TRUCK TO DRIVE, WITH THIS SITUATION. CAN'T PARK IT, TO WAIT 9 WEEKS, FOR PARTS, STILL MAKING PAYMENTS. NO POWER, DANGEROUS ON FREEWAY, OR ANY WHERE ELSE. TOYOTA WAS STILL SENDING NEW TRUCKS, TO BE SOLD, WHEN, THEY COULD HAVE SENT PARTS, TO FIX THIS VERY EXPENSIVE, AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE AIR INJECTION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE REPAIRS FAILED TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ASSISTED WITH THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,500.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR PUMP AND VALVE SET FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BECOME RESISTANT TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THE DEALER ADVISED HER THAT THE PUMP AND THE VALVE SET WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED TO PAY FOR FIFTY PERCENT OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,000.
