The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while driving at 45 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle failed to respond. The check engine warning light was illuminated. On a separate occasion, the contact stated that while driving uphill or driving forward, the vehicle lost motive power while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with air injection pumps and air injection switching valves failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered the contact an Extended Warranty. The contact was informed that the dealer would reach out to her; however, when the dealer contacted the contact, the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under an Extended Warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 74,268.
I bought a 2007 Toyota Tundra less than 3 months ago from Toyota of Simi Valley. 2 months ago my check engine light and other warning lights suddenly went on while I was driving and my truck went into “limp mode” while merging onto a freeway, causing other drivers to swerve around me to avoid a collision. I took the truck back to Toyota and they advised the Air injection pump and air control valve need to be replaced. Total cost to repair is almost $4,000. I purchased at Bronze level extended warranty which covers up to 24,000 miles but the insurance carrier denied the claim saying these items are excluded, despite these items not being listed on their “excluded items list”. Toyota then offered to pay 1/2 the total cost of repairs, which in of itself is an admission of guilt. I’ve only made 2 payments on the vehicle, I should not be responsible for these repairs. I took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who advised Toyota’s assessment is correct, however, it should only cost $2k to fix the vehicle, not $4k. The mechanic also advised of an emission system issue and that this vehicle will not pass smog at this time.
After filling the gas tank and driving home, I happened to notice something hanging down under the driver’s side of the truck. The rear of the two fuel tank bands was fractured near the outboard mount and appears to be due to excessive corrosion. I have no idea if it separated that day or how long I may have been driving with just the front fuel tank band (also rusted) holding the fuel tank in the vehicle. If I hadn’t had a clear view of the truck from a distance (from sidewalk a few houses away), I’m afraid I might never have noticed until the front fuel tank band (now under greater loading condition) also fractured. I’m assuming in that scenario, the fuel tank would drag the ground, held only by the fuel lines, with possible deadly consequences depending on vehicle speed and other factors. I can’t stop my mind thinking about what might have happened. At higher speed, would the rear axle have catapulted over the fuel tank causing loss of control, even before any fuel leakage?
The back fuel tank strap rusted in half and broke. The tank was hanging down.

HAVE HAD TO HAVE FUEL PUMP REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN PAST FEW YEARS AS IT KEEPS FAILING. DUE TO FUEL PUMP FAILURE HAVE HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED HOME AND/OR TOVAR REPAIR SHOP.THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE STATIONARY AND ALSO WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREET
MY 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA FUEL TANK STRAP RUSTED THROUGH AND THE FUEL TANK CAME LOOSE AND PARTIALLY FELL OUT BUT WAS HELD IN BY THE FILL HOSE AND EVAP HOSES. THE SKID PLATE THAT IS MOUNTED TO THE STRAP BROKE COMPLETELY OFF AND WAS FOUND ON THE HIGHWAY. I FIND THIS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS IF IT HAD BEEN THE FRONT STRAP IT COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. I KNOW RUST CAN BE AN ISSUE BUT CERTAINLY NOT SOMETHING I HAVE BEEN WORRIED ABOUT ON A 9 YEAR OLD TRUCK. I AM NOT EXACTLY SURE WHEN THE STRAP BROKE AS I SAW IT HANGING AFTER WORK ON MY WAY TO THE TRUCK.

THE CONTACT PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DISCOVERED THAT BOTH OF THE FUEL TANK SKID GUARD BRACKETS WERE PARTIALLY DETACHED. THE CONTACT TEMPORARILY SECURED THE BRACKETS WITH A ROPE AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO AIR INJECTION SYSTEM PUMP MALFUNCTION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER, WHICH ALMOST CAUSED HIM TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HIS LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED HIM OF WHAT THE FAILURE WAS. WHEN THE MECHANIC CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT THE PARTS, THE MECHANIC WAS INFORMED ABOUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THREE YEARS/36,000 TO FIVE YEARS/ 70,000. THE MECHANIC WAS ALSO INFORMED ABOUT A DEFECT WITH THE SYSTEM, WHICH CAUSED WATER INFILTRATION, WHICH COULD COMPROMISE THE SYSTEM. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONSUMER TO VISIT THE DEALER. THE DEALER DID CONFIRM THE DIAGNOSIS WAS CORRECT. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE WARRANTY ONLY APPLIED TO A FEW STATES AND THE CONSUMERS STATED WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CONSUMER PAID $2300 FOR THE REPAIR.

THE CONTACT PERFORMED THE REPAIR HIMSELF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

AFTER THE DEALER COMPLETED THE ACCELERATOR RECALL, MY TRUCK NOW HAS A SLIGHT STALL WHEN TAKING OFF AND IF THERE IS ANY ROUGHNESS IN DRIVING SURFACE, THE TRUCK DOES THIS LURCHING/ACCELERATION AT EACH BUMP. IT'S ALMOST LIKE WHEN THEY REPROGRAMMED THE ACCELERATOR, THEY MADE IT TOO SENSITIVE. I WASN'T HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE PEDAL PRIOR TO THEIR "FIX" BUT THEY FORCED ME TO HAVE THE "REPAIR" DONE. *TR
I HAD MY TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY FIX THE GAS PEDAL WHICH HAS MADE IT WORSE. THE TRUCK HESITATES THEN LURCHES AHEAD. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. ALSO THE TRANSMISSION IS MAKING A BANGING NOISE AND DOESN'T SHIFT RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE O-RING WAS DEFECTIVE AND ALLOWING THE FUEL TANK TO LEAK. REFERRING TO THE JANUARY 21, 2010 TOYOTA RECALL OF CERTAIN LATE MODEL VEHICLES DUE TO A ACCELERATOR PEDAL ... I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA WITH APPROXIMATELY 41K MILES. I HAVE EXPERIENCED VEHICLE BEHAVIOR CONSISTENT WITH THAT RESULTING FROM A STUCK ACCELERATOR ... BOTH IN FORWARD AND REVERSE ... ON AT LEAST THREE OCCASIONS. AFTER READING OF TOYOTA'S RECALL, I CONTACTED THE PHONE NUMBER ON TOYOTA'S WEB SITE AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVE DENIED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. ANOTHER TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE WAS AWARE OF THE RECALL AND PROVIDED THE NAME OF A LOCAL DEALER ... THEIR SERVICE MANAGER ALSO DENIED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL EVEN WHEN I READ THE RECALL NOTICE FROM THE TOYOTA'S WEB SITE! INTERMITTENT FUEL PUMP IN 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4.7L V8. ENGINE WOULD STOP RUNNING RANDOMLY, FIRST AT LOW SPEED AND THEN EVENTUALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (75 MPH). VERY DANGEROUS! FUEL PUMP REPLACED AFTER 30 DAYS OF STONEWALLING TO INCLUDE THE 'FIX' OF KEEPING THE GAS TANK AT LEAST 1/4 FULL. NEVER DETECTED BY THE COMPUTER; NO ERROR CODES EVER DISPLAYED.
