WAS RETURNING HOME VIA THE INTERSTATE FROM FL; WE EXITED TO REFUEL. I FILLED THE TRUCK UP AT A SHELL STATION AS WE WERE LEAVING THE PUMPS I STARTED MY TUNDRA PLACED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO PLACE IT INTO GEAR AND SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE IT TOOK OFF JUST LIKE I HAD PRESS THE ACCELERATOR IT ALTHOUGH I HAD NOT EVEN PLACED MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. I IMMEDIATELY DEPRESSED THE BRAKE AS FORCEFULLY AS I COULD THE VEHICLE KEPT ACCELERATING; I PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL WITH THE ENGINE STILL REVVING LIKE THE GAS PEDAL WAS STILL BEING DEPRESSED. I THEN TURNED OFF THE KEY. THIS WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME I HAD EXPERIENCED ANY SUCH PROBLEM SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE. SO FAR NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THE VEHICLE IN RELATION TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE HAD AN ACCELERATOR PROBLEM WITH MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. LAST SUMMER MY ACCELERATOR STUCK IN FULL THROTTLE POSITION AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE OVER-REVVED, AND THE PEDAL FINALLY RETURNED TO THE NORMAL POSITION. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT IT MUST HAVE STUCK ON THE FLOORMAT, BUT THIS WAS NOT POSSIBLE. THE FLOORMAT WAS NO WHERE NEAR THE PEDAL. I COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS HAPPENING AND THE FACT THE PEDAL FELT LIKE IT HAD PULLED ITSELF DOWN MORE THAN WHAT I WAS PUSHING ON IT. I ALSO COMPLAINED OF THE PEDAL BEING HARD TO PUSH AT TAKE OFF AND ALWAYS JOLTING FORWARD AT TAKE OFF DUE TO THE PRESSURE NEEDED TO PUSH THE ACCELERATOR. THE DEALER AGAIN STATED IT HAD TO BE THE FLOORMAT AND ONLY DOCUMENTED THE PROBLEM OF THE PEDAL BEING HARD TO PUSH. WHEN THEY RETURNED THE VEHICLE THEY SAID THE PEDAL WAS FINE AND THAT IT WAS NORMAL TO HAVE TO PUSH HARD ON IT DUE TO THE FACT IT DID NOT OPERATE WITH A CABLE ANYMORE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA SEVERAL TIMES VIA EMAIL SINCE THE LATEST RECALL AND FINALLY RECEIVED A CALL TODAY FROM THEM. THE WOMAN WHO CALLED SAID TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. WHEN I ASKED HER IF THE INCIDENT WITH THE STUCK ACCELERATOR WOULD BE INVESTIGATED BY TOYOTA , SHE STATED THAT THERE ONLY ACTION WOULD BE THE RECALL FIX AND TO CONTACT THE DEALER.I FEEL TOYOTA OR AN INDEPENDENT AGENCY SHOULD CHECK THE VEHICLE BEFORE TOYOTA IS ALLOWED TO TOUCH IT, BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL THAT THERE SHIM WILL FIX THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE IT IS A PROBLEM OTHER THAN THE PEDAL JUST BEING STUCK. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD APPROX. 8,000 MILES AT THE TIME. *TR
I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT; TRAFFIC BEGAN TO MOVE AS I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR THE TRUCK SURGED, ACCELERATING SUDDENLY. IT HAPPENED SO QUICK I DID NOT HAVE TIME TO REACT AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME (THE ACCELERATOR DID RETURN TO IDLE). I REALLY THOUGHT IT WAS MY FAULT UNTIL I STARTED HEARING ALL THE REPORTS REGARDING SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH TOYOTAS. I HAD, AND CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM OCCURRING ONCE EVERY 6 WEEKS OR SO. ALL THE PREVIOUS TIMES THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME. I AM NOW VERY CAUTIOUS, AND HAVE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE TOYOTA DEALER PER THEIR RECALL LETTER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED AS HE WAS DRIVING 15 MPH THE VEHICLE AND FOUR WHEELING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL GOT STUCK. THE CONTACT STATED AS HE WAS DRIVING UP THE MOUNTAIN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL GOT STUCK AND THE VEHICLE WENT OVER THE EDGE OF THE MOUNTAIN ALMOST KILLING HIM. THERE IS A POLICE REPORT OF THE ACCIDENT AND THE VEHICLE IS STILL SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN BECAUSE THEY UNABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE MOUNTAIN. THE CONTACT STATED HE HAS TO GET A CRANE AND A HELICOPTER TO GET THE VEHICLE FROM WHERE IT HAS BEEN STUCK SINCE JULY 2009. THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURE HAD NOT BEEN CALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000. UPDATED 3/8/10 *CN UPON ASCENDING A HILL IN 4-WHEEL DRIVE, THE CONSUMER FLT THE VEHICLE SPEED UP AS HE REACHED THE TOP OF THE HILL. HE APPLIED THE BRAKE, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. HE JUMPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO GO OVER THE SIDE OF THE CLIFF. UPDATED 06/30/10. *JB
SUMMER 2009, 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FOR APPROX 3 SECONDS, THEN RESUMED NORMAL DRIVE. CONTACTED TOYOTA AND TOLD IT WAS FLOORMATS. REMOVED FLOORMATS AND LATER RECIEVED FLOORMAT RECALL NOTICE. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE GOING 10MPH DOWN DRIVEWAY, VEHICLE HAD ACCELARATION BURST ALMOST CAUSING CRASH INTO TREE. CONTACTED TOYOTA, THEY TALKED OF FLOORMATS. WHEN I STATED I HAD REMOVED THEM PREVIOUSLY, TOYOTA STATED IT MUST BE SOMETHING ELSE UNRELATED TO THE VEHICLE. SOON ISSUES CAME OUT ON THE NEWS. I AGAIN CONTACTED TOYOTA, BUT THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE '08 TUNDRA DID NOT HAVE ISSUES. I GAVE UP THE VEHICLE FOR FEAR OF FAMILY GETTING HURT. ONLY AFTER DID I RECIEVE A NOTICE IN THE MAIL STATING 2008 TUNDRAS DID HAVE MECHANICAL ISSUES. *TR
I HAVE AN WHITE 08 TUNDRA CEWMAX LIMITED. THE PAINT IS HORRIBLE. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY LITTLE LIGHT TOUCH OF IT BRINGS IT DOWN TO THE GREY UNDERCOATING. FOR INSTANCE, MY KEY FOB HIT THE GATE WHEN I WAS UNLOCKING THE TAILGATE AND IT CHIPPED IT RIGHT DOWN TO THE GREY UNDERCOATING. THE TRUCK IS PEPPERED WITH THESE PROBABLY FROM ROAD DEBRIS. I COULD UNDERSTAND A LITTLE HERE OR THERE BUT NOT THIS MANY AND HAVING IT HAPPEN SO EASILY MOST RECENTLY MY CLEARCOAT HAS STARTED TO FAIL AND MY TRUCK IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. IT GETS WASHED ALMOST WEEKLY AND WAXED EVERY MONTH WITH MEGUIRES NXT 2.0. I KNOW EVERY LITTLE DING, SCRATCH AND DENT ON THE TRUCK AND EVERYTIME I GO TO WASH IT, THERE ARE MORE. THE PAINT/CLEARCOAT IS NOT VERY PROTECTIVE AND HAS NOT HELD UP. MY OTHER CAR IS 12 YEARS OLD AND GETS THE SAME CAR CARE TREATMENT AS MY TUNDRA AND ITS PAINT IS 100% BETTER THAN THIS TRUCK. IT IS ALSO A TOYOTA AND WHITE. *TR
HEAT/A.C/VENTILATION SYSTEM ALLOWS RODENTS TO ENTER FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT INTO THE DUCTWORK INSIDE THE VEHICLE MEANING ALL AIR CONSUMED BY OCCUPANTS IS LACED WITH RODENT FECES/EXCREMENT WHICH IS UNHEALTHFUL FOR OCCUPANTS TO BREATHE AND IN SOME CONDITIONS WILL LEAD TO DEATH VIA ANTIVIRUS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING 60MPH AND CHANGING LANES, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND THE GAS PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. SHE WAS FORCED TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL GEAR AND DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV PRIOR TO SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FLOOR MAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATED, YET SHE DOESN'T AGREE THAT THE FLOOR MATS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,032 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
WHILE SITTING AT STOP LIGHT AND ONCE YOU LET GO OF THE BRAKE THE TRUCK JERKS WITHIN THE WHOLE DRIVE SHAFT FROM FRONT TO BACK. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 30 MPH WHEN HE TOOK HIS FOOT OF THE GAS PEDAL THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND WHEN HIS FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. TWO SEPARATE TOYOTA DEALERS DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE SIX TIMES AND ALSO EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE DEALER IS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER ON HOW TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. HE ALSO FILED CLAIM NUMBER 0904137238 WITH THE MANUFACTURER WHO FOLLOWED UP WITH HIM TO FIND OUT IF THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,699 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,850. UPDATED 3/4/2010 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD DIFFICULTY SHIFTING GEARS AT LOW SPEEDS. UPDATED 07/07/10.*JB
GOING UP RAMP ONTO HWY 90 AS I WAS TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC THE AIR INJECTION PUMP AND AIR SWITCHING VALVES FAILED AND TRUCK POWER DECREASED TO 30 MILES PER HOUR. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS ISSUE HAPPENING AT AN INAPPROPRIATE TIME.TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER REPAIR AS THEY SAID DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURE OF SYSTEM NOT COVERED AFTER 150,000 MILES. DEFECT IS THEIR ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECTIFIED BY THEM AT NO CHARGE TO CUSTOMER AS THIS IS A DRIVING HAZARD THEY HAVE ALREADY ADMITTED TO THE FIRST TIME AT 49,000 MILES. *JS
PURCHASED A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5 DOUBLE CAB ..FROM DAY ONE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY ACCELERATOR WAS TOO SPRINGY AND SENSITVE. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS HAD DIFFICULTY KEEPING ACCELERATOR IN CONTROL . TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES WHERE THEY WOULD HOOK IT UP TO THE COMPUTER ONLY TO TELL ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG . ALTHOUGH I HAD TALKED TO A TOYOTA MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THERE WOULD PROBABLY HAVE SOMETHING COME OUT ON THIS MATTER BECAUSE HE HAS SEEN PROBLEMS LIKE THIS BEFORE .. I WENT IN FOR THE RECALL AND IT SEEMS THERE IS A WORSE PROBLEM NOW .. I TRULY BELIEVE THIS IS AN ELECTRONIC PROBLEM BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO COINCIDE WITH THE TRANSMISSION WHICH IS ALSO ELECTRONIC .. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH IN SNOWY WEATHER CONDITIONS WITH A SUDDEN INCREASE OF ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV AND RPMS INCREASED FROM 1,000 TO 4,000. THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE TURNED A COMPLETE 360 DEGREE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF VEHICLE DAMAGE OR INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT STATES THERE ARE TWO PEOPLE IN THE FAMILY THAT DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND TWO PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. AT 26,787 MILES, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE MOTOR. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE NOISE WAS NORMAL, AND WAS COMING FROM A PISTON. WHEN THE MOTOR IS COLD, THE PISTON STRIKES AGAINST THE MOTOR CYLINDER WALL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT ALL 5.7L ENGINES HAD THIS DEFECT AND OFFERED TO EXTEND THE CONTACT'S WARRANTY. THEY FURTHER STATED THAT IT WOULD TAKE MUCH EFFORT TO CORRECT THE DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
BED BOLTS BEGAN RUSTING SOON AFTER I PURCHASED THE TRUCK. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER BUT THEY SAID IT WAS NOTHING. WAITED A YEAR AND IT GOT WORSE, RUSTING THE BED, SO I BROUGHT IT TO DEALER #2 WHO SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO - NO RECALL OR TSBS. MY FRAME WAS REPLACED 2 YEARS AGO AT ORIGINAL DEALER AND I ASKED ABOUT THE BED AGAIN BUT WAS TOLD NO WARRANTY, RECALL OR TSB. I JUST LEARNED THAT THERE IS A TSB ON THE BOLTS AND CORROSION OF THE BED. OTHER THAN A RUSTED OUT BED, MY TRUCK LOOKS AND RUNS GREAT BUT I'M AFRAID THAT MY BED IT GOING TO FALL OFF EVERY TIME I HIT A BUMP. I FEEL LIKE I WAS MISLED - LIED TO - BY BOTH DEALERSHIPS. TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE CORRECTED THIS ISSUE 10 YEARS AGO. I AM NOT IN THE POSITION TO HAVE REPAIRS DONE OR PURCHASE A NEW TRUCK. TOYOTA SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO FOR NOT MAKING THE CORRECTIONS AS SOON AS THE ISSUE WAS DISCOVERED. THE DESIGN IS FLAWED AS THE BED IS DOUBLE WALLED WITH SOME SORT OF INSULATION BETWEEN THE LAYERS. AS IT RUSTS FROM UNDERNEATH, WATER ENTERS BETWEEN THE WALLS AND THE INSULATION HOLDS THE MOISTURE. BY THE TIME THE RUST BEGINS TO SHOW ON TOP THE BOTTOM IS SO FAR GONE. I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO SCRAP A VEHICLE BECAUSE OF TOYOTA'S NEGLECT. *TR
7/29/09 DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH TRANSMISSION STARTED SHIFTING GEAR AND MPH WAS MOVING FROM 60 TO 80 UP AND BACK DOWN. APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKE , SHIFTED GEAR TO NEUTRAL BUT NO ACTIONS COULD STOP THE TOYOTA TRUCK. MY NEPHEW AND I JUMPED FROM THE TRUCK WHEN I DETERMINED THAT IT WAS SLOWING DOWN AND NO CARS WERE PASSING ON THE FREEWAY. IT CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP 1/2 MILE AWAY FROM WERE WE JUMPED. THE ENGINE HAD SMOKE COMING OUT AND IT REVVING UP AND DOWN. TOWED IT TO DEALER AND THEY SAID NO PROBLEM FOUND AND ACCUSED IT WAS THE FLOORMATS AFTER THEIR MASTER TECH LOOKED AT IT. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE US FOR WORN BRAKES AND BENT ROTORS WHICH WERE CAUSE BY THIS EVENT. IN-DISAGREEMENT WE TOWED TO ANOTHER TOYOTA AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE COMPLAINT REGARDING THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION, WORN BRAKE PADS, AND BENT ROTORS CANNOT BE FOUND. WE TOOK BACK THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS AND A SECOND INCIDENT HAPPEN 1/15/10. I WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AND SUDDENLY THE TRUCK WAS ACCELERATED FROM 25 MPH TO 60 MPH. I PERFORMED ALL WAYS TO STOP THE TRUCK BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP. TO AVOID HITTING A BIG-RIG I HAD TO VERGE INTO AN EMBANKMENT. AGAIN POLICE AND FIRE DEPT WERE CALLED BUT NO ONE ACCIDENT OCCURRED SO NO REPORTS WERE TAKEN. AGAIN WE TOWED IT TO THE DEALER STATING THE SAME SITUATION AND AGAIN NO PROBLEM HAS BEEN FOUND. THEY STILL HAVE THE TRUCK UNTIL TODAY 3/9/10 AND HAVE NOT GAVE ANY ANSWER ON WHAT IS HAD OCCURRED AND NO ACTIONS HAD BEEN TAKEN. I HAVE SUFFERED TREMENDOUSLY. FEAR HAUNTS ME AT NIGHT AND I AM AFRAID TO EVEN STEP FOOT INTO THE TRUCK. I AM EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED ON THE ORDEAL AND HOW TOYOTA PERSISTED THAT NOTHING HAPPENED. MY 15 YEAR OLD NEPHEW WHO JUMPED OUT WHILE WE WERE ON THE FREEWAY HAS BEEN TRAUMATIZED AND YET I CANNOT GET ANSWER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD EXHIBIT AN ABNORMALLY HIGH INCREASE IN RPMS AT STARTUP AND THE MOTOR WOULD RACE LOUDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE AIR INJECTION PUMP OR THE AIR SWITCH DEVICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION TO 100+ MPH. WILL NOT SLOW OR STOP EVEN WHILE PRESSING BRAKE WITH BOTH FEET. CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE. CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT OVERRIDE ACCELERATION WHEN BRAKE IS APPLIED. HAD TO PUT IN NEUTRAL, AND TURN THE KEY WHILE HITTING BAR DITCH, NEARLY FLIPPING TRUCK AND COLLIDING WITH TWO 18 WHEELERS. *TR
THE DAY AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE (12/25/08), THE WINDSHIELD WAS HIT BY A ROCK WHICH CAUSED A CHIP. THE CHIP REPAIR DID NOT HOLD AND THE CHIP EXTENDED INTO A CRACK. THIS CRACK WENT ACROSS THE LOWER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD AND CURVED DOWN TOWARD THE DASH. I CALLED THE DEALER TO INQUIRE ABOUT REPAIR, AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT BUILT WITH A HEATED WINDSHIELD SO I ELECTED TO WAIT UNTIL THE END OF WINTER TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER I CAME OUT TO GO TO WORK, STARTED THE VEHICLE, AND TURNED ON THE HEATED MIRRORS. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND WENT TO OPEN MY GATE AND FEED THE DOG, UPON RETURNING TO THE TRUCK I SMELLED A BURNING ELECTRICAL ODOR. AT THIS TIME I NOTICED A FLASHING AND A FLAME COMING FROM THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. IT WAS BEGINNING TO GROW SO I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. I THEN CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY CAME AND TOWED THE VEHICLE IN TO THEIR SHOP. THEY CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND WERE TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BUILT WITH A HEATED WINDSHIELD WHICH IS WHAT THE BUILD SPECIFICATION SHEET STATES. AFTER INVESTIGATING FURTHER IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MY TRUCK WAS INDEED BUILT WITH A HEATED WINDSHIELD, WHICH HAD SHORTED OUT FROM THE CRACK AND BURNED THE WINDSHIELD AND THE PASSENGER WIPER BLADE. THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE ON OUR 2008 TUNDRA 4WD DRIVE HAS FAILED, REPEATEDLY THIS PAST WEEK WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON A PUBLIC STREET. IN THIS "FAIL" CONDITION, THE TRANSFER CASE MAKES A GRINDING NOSE, THE TRANSFER CASE ALARM BUZZER MAKES NOSE AND IRRESPECTIVE OF TRANSMISSION POSITION OR TRANSFER CASE SELECTION (2WD, 4WD HI, 4WD LO) FAILS TO ENGAGE IN LOW OR HI, AND MOST TROUBLING, THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL IN ANY GEAR, NO GEAR WILL ENGAGE, AND THE CAR CAN ROLL FORWARD OR BACKWARDS OUT OF CONTROL. I WAS ALMOST HIT A BY A CAR TODAY BECAUSE I COULD NOT GET THE TRUCK TO ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR, IN ANY SETTING, INSPITE OF ATTEMPTS TO ROLL THE VEHICLE SLIGHTLY DOWN THE HILL TO ALLOW FOR THE TRANSFER CASE TO ENGAGE, AS SUGGESTED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. WHILE I AM NOT PLEASED WITH THE (FAILED) CONDITION OF THE DRIVE TRAIN FOR THIS NEW TRUCK, THIS IS AN ISSUE I WILL ADDRESS DIRECTLY WITH TOYOTA. IN THE FAIL CONDITION OF 4WD, THE TRANSFER CASE MERELY 'BEEPS' AND REFUSES TO ENGAGE TRANSMISSION, RESULTING IN A FREE-ROLLING, UNCONTROLLED VEHICLE. THE TRUCK PROCEED TO ACCELERATE TO 90 MPH AND AT THIS POINT I AGAIN PUSHED 5-6 TIMES ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO HAVE IT RELEASE BUT IT CONTINUED TO GO FASTER TO 100 MPH AT THIS POINT I KNEW WE IN DEEP TROUBLE AND DANGER. I WAS PUSHING HARD ON THE BRAKE AND TRYING TO MOVE FROM THE LEFT LANE IN TRAFFIC AT NIGHT TO THE RIGHT LANE TO TRY AND STOP THE TRUCK . I GOT TO THE RIGHT LANE AND TO THE SHOULDER AND HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WAS STAMPING HARD ON THE BREAK PEDAL AND TRYING TO SHIFT OUT OF GEAR TO NEUTRAL . THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT WATER WAS IN THE VACUUM PUMP. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,197. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,846.

TOYOTA SHOULD ADDRESS THIS AND CURRENT OWNERS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED OF THE POSSIBLE SAFETY CONCERN. A GOOGLE SEARCH OF TUNDRA RUMBLE STRIP VIBRATION WILL YIELD INFORMATION ON THE ISSUE. LOS ANGELES TOYOTA MOTOR SALES OFFICIALS HAVE NICKNAMED THE PROBLEM "THE RUMBLE STRIP" BECAUSE THE SLIPPAGE CAUSES VIBRATION SIMILAR TO THE SENSATION OF DRIVING OVER THE WAKE-UP STRIPS AT THE SIDE OF HIGHWAYS. 1. TURNING RIGHT IN 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA OUT OF PARKING LOT AT WORK OR INTO TRAFFIC, I DECELERATE PREPARING TO TURN RIGHT AND REMOVE PRESSURE FROM GAS PEDAL AND BRAKE DURING THE TURN. WHEN I REAPPLY PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL DURING THE TURN THE TRUCK DOES NOT ACCELERATE ONLY THE ENGINE ACCELERATES. ADDING ADDITIONAL PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL ONLY CAUSES THE ENGINE TO ACCELERATE MORE. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES THE TRUCK SURGES FORWARD SUDDENLY. 2. THIS SLIPPING IN THE TRANSMISSION HAPPENS EVERY DAY. THE CONSEQUENCE OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IS WHEN WILL THE TRANSMISSION SLIP AND WHEN WILL THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGE. 3. I PURCHASED MY 2008 TUNDRA IN MARCH OF 2008. AFTER HAVE THE TRUCK FOR 30 DAYS, I NOTICED SCRATCHES IN THE PAINT. I TOOK MY TRUCK DOWN TO THE DEALER, AND THEY WANTED ME TO PAY $700 TO PUT SIMONIZ ON MY PAINT. I WAS NOT GOING TO PAY IF THERE WAS A PAINT PROBLEM WITH MY 2008 TUNDRA. EVERY TIME I WASHED MY TRUCK MORE AND MORE SCRATCHES STARTED SHOWING UP. I STARTED WAXING THE PAINT TO REMOVE THEM, BUT THEY KEEP APPEARING. I CONTACTED TOYOTA, AND THEY SAID TO TAKE IT TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. I TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HE SAID HE COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE TOYOTA REP LOOKED AT IT. I WAITED UNTIL THE REP WAS IN TOWN, AND I TOOK IT TO HIM. THE TOYOTA REP SAID HE COULD SEE THAT MY PAINT WAS SCRATCHING BUT HE DID NOT SEE THAT IT WAS A WARRANTY ITEM. HE SAID SINCE THE PAINT IS NOT BUBBLING, PEELING OR FALLING OFF THAT IT IS NOT A WARRANTY ITEM. PLUS HE SAID SINCE MY PAINT IS SCRATCHING FROM AN EXTERNAL SOURCE THAT TOYOTA WOULD NOT WARRANTY IT. THEY WOULD NOT GET A PROFESSIONAL TO LOOK AT IT, AND WOULD NOT ALLOW AN INDEPENDENT PAINT PROFESSIONAL TO LOOK AT IT. THEY SAID I COULD TAKE IT TO WHOMEVER I WANTED BUT THEY WOULD NOT ACCEPT WHATEVER THEY FOUND. TOYOTA HAS A PAINT PROBLEM, BUT THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I AM NOT ALONE... 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB 4X4 SR5 W/TRD OFF ROAD THIS TRUCK IS CLEARLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN YOU DRIVE THE TRUCK AND HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE TRUCK BED BOUNCES. IT WILL ACTUALLY AFFECT THE STEERING AND ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IF YOU HIT A LARGE BUMP IT IS EXCEPTIONALLY HARD TO STEER AND CONTROL. FURTHER MORE , IF YOU MEASURE FROM THE BACK OF THE CAB TO THE TOP OF THE BED, THERE WAS A DIFFERENCE OF 1 3/4 INCHES FROM THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE. PLEASE HELP! WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO THE PASSENGERS SIDE OF AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. THE POLICE WERE CALLED AND A REPORT WAS FILED AT THE SCENE. NEITHER THE MANUFACTURER NOR THE DEALER WERE CONTACTED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.
