WHENEVER I CALL THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR THE RECALL SERVICE, THEY ARE LIKE "THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE" OR "THEY DO NOT TIME TO ATTEND TO IT". I BRAKED TO AVOID HITTING AN ANIMAL WHICH EMERGED FROM THE DITCH. THE CAR FISHTAILED, LOST CONTROL AND FLIPPED ONCE LANDING ON IT'S TOP. THE DRIVER'S SIDE WAS DAMAGED AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOTALED THE CAR. I DID HIT MY HEAD AGAINST THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW, BUT THE BLOW WAS NOT SEVERE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DID NOT WORK EITHER AND HAVE ONLY WORKED INTERMITTENTLY FOR QUITE SOME TIME. *TR

RECEIVED "INTERIM" NOTICE OF URGENT RECALL FOR DRIVER SIDE SEAT RAILS. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER RECEIVED NOTICE THAT "FIX" WAS READY AND WE SHOULD CONTACT DEALER FOR REPAIRS. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN THAT PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND WE WILL BE NOTIFIED WHEN REPAIRS ARE POSSIBLE. WE HAVE NO IDEA WHEN URGENT REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING HOME IN WET CONDITIONS, MY FRIEND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE STRIKING 2 FULL SIZE PINE TREES AND TWO ELECTRIC POLES, BASICALLY WE BOUNCED FROM ONE TO THE OTHER HITTING THE FRONT HEAD ON AND FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT BEFORE COMING TO A STOP ON TOP OF A FIRE HYDRANT... THE ONLY AIRBAG TO DEPLOY WAS THE DRIVERS STEERING AIRBAG. I WAS OBVIOUSLY SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND DUE TO THE PASSENGER AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYING I SLAMMED MY HEAD INTO THE DASH BEFORE THE SEATBELT LOCKED. THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO AND RESEARCHED, MY FRIEND AND MYSELF COULD HAVE AND PROBABLY SHOULD BE DEAD DUE TO THE AIRBAG DEFECT IN THESE VEHICLES, THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS STYLE YARIS THAT'S PERTAINING TO THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE BACK AND NECK. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUFFERED INJURES TO THE BACK, NECK AND HIP. THE MANUFACTURER'S INVESTIGATION CONCLUDED THAT THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DUE TO THE LOW IMPACT OF THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FRONT FRAME WAS REPLACED AND THE REAR BUMPER WAS RESTORED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,765. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000.

VEHICLE VEERED OFF ROAD TO RIGHT HITTING STREET SIGN. CONTINUED DOWN EMBANKMENT ROLLING OVER APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS IN THE CAR EJECTED. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED FRONTAL CRASH, SIDE CRASH AND ROLL OVER. I FEEL THIS VEHICLE SAFETY IS MISREPRESENTED AND VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
I'M WRITING ABOUT TWO DESIGN FLAWS THAT LED TO AN UNFORTUNATE INCIDENT, AND WHICH COULD HAVE HAD CAUSED EVEN MORE SERIOUS RESULTS. I BELIEVE THE PRIMARY CAUSE FOR THIS INCIDENT IS A POORLY DESIGNED INTERIOR TRUNK SAFETY LATCH, AND THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY DESIGN IS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, 35 MILES INTO MY TRIP. AS I CHANGED LANES, MY TRUNK POPPED OPEN (IT HAD BEEN LATCHED) AND MY LAPTOP IN ITS COMPUTER CASE JETTISONED OUT OF THE TRUNK AND FLEW ACROSS THE INTERSTATE, CAUSING VEHICLES BEHIND ME TO SWERVE. MY MECHANIC UPON INSPECTING THE TRUNK OBSERVED THE INTERIOR TRUNK RELEASE IS DESIGNED SUCH THAT IT 1. DANGLES FREELY IN THE TRUNK SO COULD EASILY GET CAUGHT ON SOMETHING THAT SHIFTED IN THE TRUNK, AND 2. RELEASES WITH ALMOST NO PULL NEEDED. WHAT LIKELY HAPPENED IS THAT THE STRAP OF THE COMPUTER BAG CAUGHT ON AND PULLED THE INTERIOR TRUNK RELEASE WHEN I CHANGED LANES. ALTHOUGH THIS RESULTED IN SIGNIFICANT FINANCIAL DAMAGE TO ME AND BREACH OF COMPUTER SECURITY, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT TO CARS BEHIND ME. HAD THE DRIVER BEHIND ME NOT HONKED HIS HORN AND MOTIONED ME TO PULL OVER, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AWARE OF WHAT HAPPENED FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THE TRUNK OF THE YARIS DOESN'T OPEN WIDE ENOUGH TO CATCH MY EYE IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, AND I DID NOT SEE THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT COME ON: THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY ON THE YARIS, CENTERED RATHER THAN IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER, MAKES SEEING THE SIGNALS ON THE DASH DURING DAYTIME DRIVING VERY HARD. ADD TO THAT, THE DOOR AJAR SIGNAL, FAR TO THE LEFT, IS OBSCURED BY THE RIM AROUND THE DISPLAY. IN OTHER WORDS, YOU'D HAVE TO LEAN TO THE RIGHT TO NOTICE THAT A DOOR, OR IN THIS CASE THE TRUNK, JUST POPPED OPEN. THE PLACEMENT OF THE DASHBOARD PANEL IS NOT GREAT IN TERMS OF SAFETY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA YARIS. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH APPROACHING A TRAFFIC STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO INCREASE ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED THROUGH THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED REPEATEDLY WITH FORCE; HOWEVER THERE WAS NO REDUCTION IN THE SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN OFF THE ROAD INTO A DITCH IN ORDER TO STOP. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESUME WITH EXTREME CAUTION. ONE YEAR AGO, THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000.

THE TOYOTA YARIS HAS A DRIVE-BY-WIRE SYSTEM THAT RESULTS IN A DELAYED RESPONSE OF ABOUT TWO TO THREE SECONDS WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS APPLIED. I HAVE A 2009 MODEL, BUT HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY A FRIEND WHO HAS A 2011 YARIS THAT THE SAME ISSUE IS PRESENT. THE DELAYED ACCELERATOR RESPONSE IS NOT ONLY UNNERVING, IT IS DANGEROUS IN A PARKING SITUATION. I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE CUSTOMER RELATIONS, WHO REFERRED ME TO A DEALER. I SPOKE TO TWO SERVICE MANAGERS IN PORTLAND, OR WHO BOTH INDICATED THIS PROBLEM CAN ONLY BE REPARED WITH A SOFTWARE PATCH, WHICH IS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 TOYOTA YARIS (CA. 30K MILES) HOME FROM WORK UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. AS I APPROACHED A RED LIGHT, I WAS ALARMED TO FIND THAT THE BRAKES WERE COMPROMISED AND THE BRAKING POWER WAS REDUCED. I HAD TO SWERVE ONTO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID HITTING THE BACK END OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AT THIS POINT, I WAS ONLY 2 MILES FROM HOME AND DECIDED TO PROCEED CAREFULLY. AS I WAS TURNING OFF A MAIN ROAD AND INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD, THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED, AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TURN. THE CAR CAREENED OFF THE ROAD, OVER THE CURB, UP A SMALL EMBANKMENT, AND SMASHED HEAD-ON INTO A STONE WALL. THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, AND THE FRONT END SUSTAINED CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE. THE CAR WILL MOST LIKELY BE TOTALED. THANKFULLY, I WAS NOT INJURED, BUT I SHUDDER TO THINK AT WHAT THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES. THE CAR HAD NO KNOWN MECHANICAL PROBLEMS OR ACCIDENTS PRIOR TO THIS EVENT, WAS SERVICED REGULARLY, AND DRIVEN RESPONSIBLY. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA YARIS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE WHEN IT SUDDENLY STALLED. AFTER LOSS OF ACCELERATION, THE CHECK ENGINE, CRUISE CONTROL, AND OIL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL GAUGE AS IT GAVE INACCURATE READINGS. THE DEALER ORDERED A NEW INSTRUMENTAL PANEL AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR THE PART TO ARRIVE. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 31,300.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA YARIS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO PARK WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A WALL. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE KNEES AND HANDS. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE BELIEVED THE VEHICLE TO BE HIGHLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WOULD NO LONGER DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,200. I WAS DRIVING AT THE REGULAR SPEED LIMIT AND WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WAS STOPPING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN. I STEPPED ON MY BRAKE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. I WAS PRACTICALLY STANDING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AND I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I REMEMBER THAT A POLICEMAN TOLD ME TO PUT ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BECAUSE THE CAR WAS STILL SLIDING. I KNOW I TRIED TO STOP AND THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP. BASED ON THEIR REPORTS OF TOYOTA'S STICKING ACCELERATOR, I THOUGHT THIS SHOULD BE REPORTED AND INVESTIGATED. I JUST CAME HOME LAST WEEK. I BROKE 4 RIBS IN THE ACCIDENT AND THE CAR IS TOTALED. I WAS IN REHABILITATION FOR 2 1/2 WEEKS. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS ACCIDENT INVESTIGATED. I HAVE A CLEAN DRIVING RECORD AND I BELIEVE THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SOME TYPE OF MECHANICAL ISSUE THAT WOULD NOT LET ME STOP THE CAR. I PRAY YOU CAN ASSIST ME WITH THIS MATTER. IN NOVEMBER OF 2010, I HAD PURCHASED A USED 2009 TOYOTA YARIS SEDAN WITH 47,398 MILES ON IT. IT IS A BASIC MODEL VEHICLE WITH MANUAL ROLL DOWN WINDOWS. I WAS INFORMED BY THE SALES REPRESENTATIVE AT THE TIME, THAT AFTER A YEAR I CAN GO TO A TRADITIONAL AUTO DEALER AND TRADE THE VEHICLE MENTIONED ABOVE; FOR A LOWER INTEREST RATE. I WAITED 2 YEARS AND 7 MONTHS TO TRADE THIS VEHICLE IN; KEEPING MY $420.00 MONTHLY PAYMENT ON TIME. I WENT TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN METRO ATLANTA ON SUNDAY JUNE 30, 2013 TO TRADE IN THE TOYOTA YARIS AND WAS INFORMED BY THE SALES REPRESENTATIVE THAT MY VEHICLE HAD STRUCTURAL DAMAGE AND THEY ONLY COULD GIVE ME $2,500.00 VICE THE $6,000.00; IF THE VEHICLE WASN'T STRUCTURALLY DAMAGE. HE SHOWED ME THE CARFAX ON THE VEHICLE MENTIONED ABOVE; HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT IN JANUARY OF 2010 AND THAT SAME VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO ME IN NOVEMBER OF 2010 AND THE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO IT WASN'T DISCLOSED TO ME. NO MATTER WHAT MY SITUATION WAS I WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT A STRUCTURAL DAMAGE VEHICLE PUTTING MYSELF, PASSENGERS AND OTHER MOTORISTS IN DANGER. THE SALES REPRESENTATIVE WENT ON TO SAY, THE ONLY THING THEY CAN DO WITH THAT PARTICULAR VEHICLE, IS SELL IT AT AN AUCTION; BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT SELL AN UNSAFE VEHICLE TO ANYONE. MY 2009 TOYOTA YARIS EXPERIENCES A LOSS OF POWER, AND HAS WEIRD PEDAL HABITS WHENEVER I USE MY RADIO/CD PLAYER/AUX PORT. OTHER YARIS OWNERS ARE CLAIMING THAT THIS IS ALSO HAPPENING TO THEM. WHEN I AM USING THE RADIO/CD PLAYER OR AUX, THE CAR IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT. IT IS ALMOST A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE CAR ACTS DIFFERENTLY. *TR
AT 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED RESPONDING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR GAVE NO RESPONSE AND THE CAR RAPIDLY SLOWED. ACCELERATOR BEGAN TO RESPOND A MINUTE OR TWO AFTERWARDS BUT WAS NOT CONSISTENT. THIS IS THE SECOND INSTANCE OF THIS HAPPENING WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF PURCHASING THIS 2009 TOYOTA YARIS. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED THEY RECEIVED ERROR CODE P2121 WHEN DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, I HAD GLANCED DOWN TO LOOK AT MY NAVIGATION SYSTEM I NOTICED THAT I WAS CLOSE TO A PARKED CAR AND PUT ON MY BRAKES. EYEWITNESSES TO THE CRASH BELIEVE THAT A GUST OF WIND CAUSED THE CAR TO FLIP OVER. I RENTED A LATE MODEL (I BELIEVE 2009) SILVER TOYOTA YARIS IN AUGUST 2009 FROM ALAMO AT THE ORLANDO FL AIRPORT (MCO) LOCATION FOR A 2000 MILE TRIP. I DON'T KNOW THE VIN. THIS WAS JUST BEFORE THE WIDELY REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH THE FLOOR MATS ON TOYOTAS. I HAD THAT EXACT PROBLEM AND HAD TO KEEP PULLING IT BACK, OFTEN WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH. I'M AN ENGINEER AND DO ALL MY OWN MECHANICAL WORK ON MY OWN CARS, SO THERE'S NO MISTAKE ABOUT THIS. I TRIED TO RE-ATTACH THE MAT AT A REST STOP. IT WAS EASY TO SEE THAT THE MATS WOULD EASILY COME LOOSE AS THEY SHIFT AROUND BY NORMAL MOVEMENTS OF ONE'S FEET; AND THEY DID AGAIN. THESE WERE CLEARLY STOCK MATS BECAUSE THEY WERE PERFECTLY ALIGNED TO THE INSUFFICIENT HOOKS. ALSO, THEY WERE NOT STACKED ON OTHER MATS. JUST NORMAL STOCK MATS WITH POORLY DESIGNED ATTACHMENTS. THE AIRBAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF OUR 2008 TOYOTA YARIS SEDAN IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE LSRS WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON EIGHT DIFFERENT TIMES. WE ONLY HAVE PAPERWORK FOR SIX OF THE INCIDENTS. WHEN WE BRING THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE, THEY JUST RESET THE LIGHT (TURN IT OFF) AND THEY HAVE ASKED US NOT TO PUSH THE SEAT BACK, BUT TO KEEP IT IN THE MID RANGE OF THE RAIL, NOT TO RECLINE THE SEAT IN THE BACK POSITION, BUT TO DECLINE THE SEAT FORWARD WHILE A PERSON IS RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. WE WERE TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT WE SHOULD NEVER LET A CHILD OR SMALL PERSON RIDE IN THE FRONT SEAT. WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO GO OFF WHILE DRIVING. THEY BLAMED A PANEL AT THE NH DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY FOR BREAKING THE VEHICLE WHEN THEY CAUSED THE LIGHT TO APPEAR AGAIN AFTER THEY TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE. THEY HAD PREVIOUSLY DISENGAGED THE WARNING LIGHT, SO THE PANEL DID NOT FIND A DEFECT' SUBSEQUENTLY, THEY FOUND FOR TOYOTA. THE LIGHT REAPPEARED MINUTES AFTER THE CAR WAS RESTARTED AFTER THEIR DRIVE IN IT. WE REQUESTED THAT THEY WOULD HEAR THE CASE, THE PANEL AT THE ARBITRATION DEPT AT THE NH DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY REFUSED. THE MAN TOLD ME THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION WAS COMPUTER DRIVEN AND AMBIENT TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY WERE FACTORS IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THE CAR. YESTERDAY MARCH 17, 2010, I HAD THE CAR OUT IN 60-DEGREE WEATHER AND IT STALLED 7-8 TIMES, ALWAYS WHEN I NEEDED TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP. IT IS SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENS.
