TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD BUZZING NOISE WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL PUMP FAILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
JETTA IS A TDI, DIESEL. GLO PLUG ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING AND EXPERIENCED DECREASED (BUT NOT COMPLETE) LOSS OF POWER. PULLED OVER. EXAMINED ENGINE, WHICH WAS SHAKING. TURNED CAR OFF AND GLO PLUG WARNING LIGHT WENT OFF, SO ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE, BUT GOT LESS THAN A MILE DOWN THE ROAD BEFORE GLO LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING AGAIN AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AT THIS TIME, I PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE CAR, AND HAD IT TOWED TO OCALA VOLKSWAGEN (FLORIDA). AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, I HAD BEEN DRIVING ON THAT TANK OF GAS FOR APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES OR SO (IE, WAS NOT THE RESULT OF PUTTING GAS IN A DIESEL TANK -- DEALER PERFORMING REPAIRS WILL CONFIRM). DIAGNOSIS IS EX/IMPLODED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) RESULTING, LIKELY, FROM CONTAMINATED FUEL -- NOT THE WRONG FUEL (I AM CAREFUL TO ONLY PUT ULTRA LOW SULFUR HIGHWAY DIESEL IN). VW PAYING FOR ALL COSTS TO REPLACE FUEL SYSTEM (PUMPS, INJECTORS, RAILS) BUT NOT FUEL TANK. DANNY AT VW OCALA HAS BEEN VERY GOOD TO DEAL WITH, BUT I'M CONCERNED THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AND VW MAY NOT BE SO KIND/RESPONSIBLE TO COVER COSTS. NOT SURE WHETHER NEW HPFP SYSTEM WILL BE INSTALLED, OR THE SAME ONE AS BEFORE (THUS LEAVING ME AT THE MERCY OF HAVING TO "CHOOSE" THE RIGHT GAS STATIONS). CAR IS IN FOR REPAIRS AT THIS TIME. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENT PANEL FOR THE WINDOWS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 56,000.
VEHICLE IS A 2009 JETTA SEDAN - TDI (DIESEL) VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. FLOW PLUG LIGHT FLASHED ON DASH ALONG WITH DISPLAY OF "ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP" VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. PULLED CODE OF P0087 FUEL RAIL/SYSTEM PRESSURE LOW. TOWED TO DEALER, BOUCHER VW IN FRANKLIN, WI. DEALER CONFIRMED FAULT WAS A HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. *TR
MY BRAKES FREQUENTLY SQUEAK . SOMETHING WITH THE IGNITION ALSO SEEMS TO NOT BE WORKING RIGHT WHEN I TRY TURNING ON MY CAR, IT WON'T START THE FIRST TIME(S) OR STARTING IS DELAYED.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 VOLKSWAGEN VW JETTA TDI DIESEL AND IT STALLED WHILE DRIVING. THANK GOD IT DIDN'T STALL WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGHER SPEED AROUND A CORNER WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC !!! I HAD IT TOWED TO MY PLACE AND PLUGGED IN MY OBD READER AND GOT 2 CODES, PO47A (UNDEFINED CODE) AND PO191 (FUEL RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE). I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND DECIDED TO TRY AND REPLACE MYSELF, THE EXHAUST PRESSURE SENSOR #2 AND THEN LATER THE FUEL RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR WITH NO LUCK EITHER WAY. SO I DECIDED TO TOW IT THE MY LOCAL VW DEALER AND THE WORST POSSIBLE CASE SCENARIO WAS THE OUTCOME. THE DEALER SAID IT WOULD COST $ 6,500.00 TO REPAIR AND THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO FUEL (METAL) CONTAMINATION AND A BAD HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. UNDER MY RESEARCH ONLINE I'VE FOUND THAT MANY CUSTOMER'S OF 2009-2012 HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM'S THAT VW WILL NOT RECALL. I'M WRITING THIS IN HOPE THAT SOMEONE MAY THESE MANY COMPLAINTS AND FORCE THE GREAT VW EMPIRE TO RECALL THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE PEOPLE, FAMILIES , AND CHILDREN ARE SEVERELY HURT, HANDICAPPED, AND/OR KILLED. I INVITE ANYONE WHO READS THIS AND ALL THE OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS OF THESE VEHICLES TO TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUSLY AND THINK ABOUT IF SOMEONE YOU LOVE OR CARE ABOUT WAS OR CAN BE HURT, INJURED, HANDICAPPED, OR KILLED BECAUSE VW WANTS TO MAXIMIZE THEIR PROFITS !!!!! MELTING FUSE BOX...LIGHTS ON ONE SIDE OF CAR STOP WORKING. ALL OF THEM. VERY OBVIOUS FIRE DANGER. FUSE BOX HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE AND NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AFTER ONLY 6 WEEKS. *TR
FOR THE SECOND TIME MY FUEL PUMP WENT OUT. ALSO FOR THE SECOND TIME I WAS ACCUSED OF USING BIO DIESEL OR REGULAR FUEL BY THE DEALER. I WAS DRIVING A LONG IT SOUNDED LIKE A GEAR WAS TUMBLING AROUND THEN A GRINDING NOISE FOLLOWED. LUCKILY I WAS A LOW RATE OF SPEED AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO A SIDE STREET WITH OUT PROBLEM. LAST WEEK THE GEAR BOX WENT OUT AS WELL. IT HAD ISSUES ON GOING IN TO REVERSE FROM DRIVE. OFTEN I WOULD HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN TO PARK TURN IT OFF THEN RESTART TO GET IT TO GO IN TO REVERSE. *TR
2009 TDI JETTA HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THREE PUMPS HAVE BEEN PUT IN AND IT KEEPS FAILING ON THE HIGHWAY TWICE AND WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND I AM OVER WARRANTY AND IT SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY DESIGN. DON'T KNOW WHAT STEPS TO TAKE HERE THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR ALMOST 90 DAYS. *TR THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED TWO TRANSMISSION FANS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. HE WAS THEN TOLD A NEW TURBO WAS NEEDED AT A COST OF $3000. UPDATED IVOQ 12/10/12
THIS IS A VW JETTA 2009 TDI WITH 74,200 MILES. I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND BLACK SMOKE CAME FROM EXHAUST, RED LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD CAME ON WITH ERROR MESSAGE "ENGINE FAILURE". TECHNICIAN AT VW DEALER FOUND THE TURBO CHARGER HAD AN INTERNAL FAILURE. THE FAULTY TURBO PUMPED OIL THROUGHOUT THE EXHAUST SYSTEM INTO THE CAT CONVERTERS, AND HOSES. ALL WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND COSTS $7,200. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH, MY VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING AND RPM WOULD NOT INCREASE ABOVE 2000RPM. THE GLOW PLUG AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS BOTH CAME ON. THIS ALMOST RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. I AVOIDED BEING HIT BY A LARGE TRUCK WHILE I WAS STALLED IN THE CENTER LANE OF A HIGHWAY. I HAD MY VEHICLE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FUEL RAIL SWITCH, BUT THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED IN JUNE 2012, JULY 2012, AND AUGUST 2012. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE RELATED TO THE HPFP (FUEL PUMP). I AM NOT VERY SATISFIED WITH THE VW DEALERSHIP'S INABILITY TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. I LOSE FUEL PRESSURE ON A REGULAR BASIS WHICH CAUSES SAFETY CONCERNS WHILE MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. *TR
I WAS DRIVING OUR 2009 VW JETTA TDI AT APPROXIMATELY 60MPH AND THE DISPLAY FLASHED ENGINE MALFUNCTION AND DISPLAYED A SYMBOL INDICATING GLOW PLUG PROBLEM. THE ENGINE FELT SLUGGISH SO I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL VW DEALER AND ASKED IF I COULD STILL DRIVE IT AND HE TOLD ME YES AND TO BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALER THE FOLLOWING MORNING. I PULLED BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY, GOT UP TO 50MPH. THEN THE VEHICLE STALLED, THEN DIED COMPLETELY. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO PULL OFF SIDE OF HIGHWAY. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO DEALER. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE CAR AND EXPLAINED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED AND METAL SHAVING AND CONTAMINANTS WERE THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM AND THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER AWAITING A THIRD PARTY INSPECTION FROM THE WARRANTY COMPANY. ALL REQUIRED VEHICLE SERVICES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED AT THE REQUIRED INTERVALS. THE DIESEL FUEL INJECTION LINES HAD RECENTLY BEEN REPLACED IN MARCH 2012 BY THE DEALER SECONDARY TO A RECALL BY VW (V5 23J9). *TR
VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION DURING FRIDAY AFTERNOON RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND WOULD NOT RESTART, NEARLY CAUSING MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS. DASHBOARD BRIEFLY FLASHED "ENGINE MALFUNCTION WORKSHOP" AND THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO FAILURE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO JIM ELLIS VW IN CHAMBLEE, GA FOR DIAGNOSIS. DEALERSHIP CALLED WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND STATED THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO METAL SHAVINGS FOUND THROUGHOUT THE SYSTEM. ADVISED THAT REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER EXISTING 5-YEAR/60,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, CLAIMING THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS SOMEHOW EXEMPT FROM WARRANTY COVERAGE, AND ESTIMATED $8700 TO FIX THE CAR. I CALLED VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA TO REPORT THE INCIDENT AND QUESTION WHY THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE CAR; THEY EVENTUALLY AGREED TO COVER THE FULL COST OF REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED WITHIN A WEEK, BUT IS NOW BACK AT JIM ELLIS VW FOR FURTHER EVALUATION AFTER THE SAME "ENGINE MALFUNCTION WORKSHOP" AND GLOW PLUG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN ONLY 30 MILES AFTER THE REPAIRS. PLEASE COMPEL VOLKSWAGEN TO RECALL THIS CLEARLY UNSAFE VEHICLE AND FIGURE OUT WHY THEIR HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS ARE FAILING CATASTROPHICALLY AT SUCH HIGH RATES AROUND THE COUNTRY. *JS
I WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THEN HAVE IT TOWED. MY SPOUSE IS AN ENGINE MACHINIST, AND AFTER TALKING TO A VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP, AND TAKING THE CAR APART, FOUND METAL SHAVINGS THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. SO FAR, HE HAS SPENT $3200 FOR PARTS WHICH HAS DEPLETED OUR SAVING ACCOUNT. HE IS SELF EMPLOYED AND I WORK PART TIME AND PART TIME STUDENT, PAYING $400 A MONTH FOR A CAR WE THOUGHT WOULD BE SAFE, DEPENDABLE AND ECONOMICAL! THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE, DOCUMENTED FOR OVER 2 YEARS WITH NO RESPONSIBILITY TAKEN BY VW, WHO HAS FALSELY DENIED ANY ONGOING ISSUE OF THIS SORT. FORTUNATELY, MY HUSBAND CAN DO THE LABOR, BUT PEOPLE ARE SPENDING $8,000 TO $10,000 TO GET THIS VW PROBLEM FIXED, AND IN SOME CASES HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM IS FAULTY AND UNSAFE. VW NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR PRODUCT TO ENSURE CUSTOMER SAFETY ON THE ROADWAYS. *TR
MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL AT 60 MPH AND KNOCKED ME OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL. ANOTHER TIME I WAS GETTING READY TO STOP FOR A STOP SIGN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL STARTED TO VIBRATE AND I ALMOST COULDN'T STOP AND THE ABS LIGHT WENT ON. *TR
I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL IN A NEIGHBORING TOWN AND MY CAR LOST ALL POWER ALMOST INSTANTLY. MY ""MDF" READ "ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP" AND MY GLOW PLUG LIGHT (SINCE THIS IS A DIESEL POWERED VEHICLE) STARTED RAPIDLY FLASHING. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR TO NEUTRAL AND COAST TO THE TOP OF THE HILL, THEN ONCE REACHING THE APEX OF THE HILL, COAST INTO A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT. MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD, AND I HAD TO TOW IT TO THE DEALER. *JS
WHILE REPLACING FUEL FILTER CARTRIDGE I FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FILTER HOUSING. THE NEXT WILL BE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE WITH THE HEAVY FUEL SYSTEM CONTAMINATION BY METAL SHAVINGS AS PER COMMON SCENARIO. SHOULD BE NOT PLEASANT EXPERIENCE. VW SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON FUEL FILTER/SYSTEM ROUTINE CHECK UP AND OFFER PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE MAIN FUSE BOX MELTED, CAUSING FIVE EXTERIOR LIGHTS TO BECOME DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 79,000.
THE DOOR LOCKS ON MY 2009 JETTA WILL NOT LOCK/UNLOCK. THIS CAN CAUSE AN ISSUE WHERE THE DOOR REMAINS LOCKED RANDOMLY, PROHIBITING AN OCCUPANT FROM EXITING THE CAR IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. THIS ALSO ALLOWS THE DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED WHEN ASSUMING IT HAS BEEN LOCKED, LEADING THE CAR TO BE MORE ACCESSIBLE TO UNWANTED PATRONS! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPOKES ON THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BROKE. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 55 MPH AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT DID NOT THINK THE VEHICLE HIT A POT HOLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE TIRE WAS STILL INFLATED, BUT THE WHEEL HAD FAILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 45,000.
2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI 2.0L. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO A FAULTY FUEL PUMP SYSTEM *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE CAME UPON A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT, ENGINE LIGHT AND A MESSAGE INDICATING ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP ALL FLASHED. THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO RE-START THE VEHICLE. AS SHE CONTINUED TO DRIVE, SHE NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS BECOMING LESS RESPONSIVE. SHE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR, ONLY TO SEE THE RPM'S RAISE VERY HIGH AND THEN DROP TO ZERO WITH NO FLUCTUATION IN SPEED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE STARTED, BUT WAS BARELY RUNNING. THE VEHICLE HAD COMPLETELY LOST IT'S ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. SHE SHIFTED THE GEAR INTO DRIVE AND MANAGED TO GET TO A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE FUEL SYSTEM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER VW WAS COVERING THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. *JB

2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI WHILE TRAVELING INTERSTATE 81 IN NY VEHICLE JUST STALLED, GLOW PLUG AND "ENGINE FAIL WORKSHOP" MESSAGE APPEARED. COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD CYCLE KEY OFF AND ON, BACK TO NORMAL. BACK TO 65 MPH, SAME THING. HEADED HOME AT 50 MPH FOR APPROX 50 MILES AND THEN OCCURRED AGAIN ON A HILL. WOULD NOT RESTART, COASTED BACK INTO A DRIVEWAY, RESTARTED DROVE AT 20 MPH COASTED INTO A LOCAL RESTAURANT AFTER ANOTHER STALL. AAA TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER THREE DAYS THEY HAVE " NO IDEA" WHAT THE PROB. WAS AND RETURNED MY CAR TO ME. THEY COULD NOT GET IT TO DO IT AGAIN. SO I AM WAITING TO BE STRANDED AGAIN....... *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE DIFFERENT TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE PAD WORN DOWN TO METAL WHILE REAR DRIVER SIDE HAS 5 MM LEFT ON IT. DEALER INDICATES A FAULTY CALIPER. WOULD NOT EVEN ENTERTAIN THE POSSIBILITY OF A STICKING LEFT PARKING-BRAKE CABLE OR NOT PROPERLY ADJUSTED PARKING CABLE THAT MIGHT NOT BE LETTING THE LEFT REAR CALIPER RELEASE COMPLETELY (CABLE READJUSTMENT IT'S A PAIN SINCE THE REAR HALF OF THE CENTER CONSOLE HAS TO BE DISASSEMBLED TO GET ACCESS TO THE PRIMARY ADJUSTER NUT AND MECHANICS DO NOT LIKE TO MESS WITH IT). DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE REAR PADS AND ROTORS IF I DID NOT ALSO REPLACE THE CALIPER, EVEN THOUGH SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT DIAGNOSTIC WAS ONLY BASED ON VISUAL INSPECTION AND NOT ON TAKING APART THE REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLY TO PROPERLY INSPECT THE CALIPER. FOR THE AUTO TECHNICIAN TO KNOW IT IS A FAULTY CALIPER (INSTEAD OF STICKING CABLE OR OTHER ISSUE) WITHOUT REMOVING IT FROM THE VEHICLE AND ONLY UPON VISUAL INSPECTION MUST MEAN THAT VW IS AWARE OF THE FAULTY CALIPERS AND KEEPING QUIET ABOUT IT UNTIL THE CUSTOMER WALKS INTO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE PROBLEM. AS INDICATED BY A VW MECHANIC ON AN INTERNET FORUM "VW NEEDS TO DESIGN INTO THE PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTING SCREW INSIDE THE REAR CALIPER PISTON A MORE ROBUST SYSTEM TO SPRING THE REAR CALIPERS PISTON BACK AWAY FROM THE PADS AFTER BRAKE APPLICATION. INTERNAL BRAKE ADJUSTER SCREW SPINS OUT AS THE PISTON TRAVELS OUT WITH WEAR OF THE PADS. PROBLEM IS VW KNOWS THE ADJUSTER SCREWS INTERNAL THREADS DRAG TOO MUCH TO ALLOW THE NATURAL TENDENCY OF THE PISTON O-RINGS TO ROLL BACK THE PISTON TO THE PRE BRAKE APPLICATION USAGE POSITION OF THE BRAKE. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE SEVERAL CALIPERS TO GET THE CALIPERS THAT RELEASE THE PADS TENSION PROPERLY AFTER BRAKING APPLICATION." *TR
MY 2009 VW JETTA TDI HAD THE ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS AN 048 CODE FOR EXHAUST FLAP FAILURE. THIS IS A KEY PART OF THE EMISSION CONTROL. THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $655 TO REPLACE. RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, THIS IS A GROWING PROBLEM WITH THE JETTA. PAGES AND PAGES ON THE INTERNET COMPLAINED ABOUT THE PROBLEM.SOME DEALERS ARE REPLACING IT UNDER THE FEDERALLY MANDATED 80,000 EMISSIONS WARRANTY. OTHERS ARE NOT. CAR DOOR LOCKS NOT WORKING / ERRATIC. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE DEALER IN SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA IN 2012, THEY DID NOT TELL ME THE REAR RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR DID NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOCK, NOR COULD IT BE LOCKED FROM INSIDE. I HAD TO MANUALLY LOCK IT FROM THE SIDE, AND NOW IT STAYS LOCKED ALL THE TIME UNLESS I PULL THE INSIDE LEVER. THEN, AN YEAR LATER, THE OTHER (LEFT) PASSENGER SIDE STARTED NEVER LOCKING TOO, AND MOST OF THE TIME I HAVE TO MANUALLY LOCK THE DRIVER DOOR WITH THE KEY. THE FRONT RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR STILL WORKS FINE, AS DO ALL THE ALARMS. THE DEALER SAYS IT WILL COST ME $1400 TO FIX.

BUT DID NOT REPLACE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. A FUEL SAMPLE TAKEN FROM THE FUEL RETURN HOSE WHEN THE CAR DIED LOOKS LIKE FINE METALLIC PARTICLES. SETTLED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE JAR AFTER SEVERAL DAYS. A MAGNET DID NOT ATTRACT THE PARTICLES SO MUST HAVE BEEN ALUMINUM - MOST LIKELY FROM THE PISTON BORE OF THE HPFP. VW PAID FOR THE REPAIR. THE DAY I GOT THE CAR BACK I TOOK A FUEL SAMPLE FROM THE FUEL TANK. ONCE AGAIN METAL PARTICLES (ALONG WITH OTHER DEBRIS NORMALLY FOUND IN A FUEL TANK) WERE FOUND. NOW WE ARE FEARFUL OF DRIVING THE CAR DUE TO METAL PARTICLES IN THE FUEL SYSTEM WILL DESTROY THE NEW HPFP. PLEASE MAKE VW DO A RECALL AND REPLACE THE PUMP WITH A NEW DESIGN THAT WILL NOT SELF DESTRUCT! A CAR THAT SHOULD GO 200K MILES OR MORE HAS FAILED AT 67K MILES. AND IS GUARANTEED TO FAIL AGAIN DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN OF THE HPFP. ABRUPT DECELERATION TO 30MPH FROM 50MPH D/T VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME HITTING THEIR BRAKE AND TURNING. THEN I ACCELERATED TO GET BACK TO THE POSTED SPEED OF 50MPH. THE CAR WAS FLAT BEDDED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HPFP FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED, VW PAID IN FULL FOR COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. *TR
GLOW PLUG LIGHT AND ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP LIGHT CAME ON AS I WAS PULLING INTO WORK IN A.M. PARKED AND RESTARTED VEHICLE, WITH NO FURTHER WARNING LIGHTS. I MADE APPOINTMENT FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE WITH DEALER. WHEN I LEFT FOR HOME THAT EVENING THE VEHICLE STARTED OK WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH THE SAME WARNINGS SUDDENLY CAME BACK ON AND VEHICLE SUFFERED IMMEDIATE DECREASE IN POWER WITH SPEED DOWN TO ABOUT 50 MPH. I EXITED THE INTERSTATE AND TRIED TO MAKE IT TO THE VW DEALERSHIP, BUT ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHEN I STOPPED AT STOP SIGN AND WOULD NOT RESTART. VEHICLE WAS PUSHED TO THE ROADSIDE BY STATE POLICE AND HAD TO BE TOWED. VW MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED WITH EXCESSIVE METAL SHAVINGS FOUND THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. A DIESEL FUEL SAMPLE WAS SENT FOR TESTING AND WAS OKAY. DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. *TR

THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM, JUST IDENTIFIED BY THE DEALER AT THE CAR'S 60K SERVICE CHECK, SO DATES AND MILEAGE ENTERED ARE ESTIMATED. THEY FOUND METAL FILINGS THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM AND SAID THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD BEEN GROUND UP INTERNALLY. THEY STATED THAT VW WAS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, ALTHOUGH THIS ISSUE HAD NOT BEEN MENTIONED AT TWO PREVIOUS VISITS FOR FUEL CHANGES AND SERVICING BY ANOTHER LOCAL DEALER. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST SOME AIR IN THE FUEL LINE. THEY SPECIFICALLY DID NOT MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT A NHTSA INVESTIGATION, WHICH I EVENTUALLY FOUND ON THE SAFERCAR WEBSITE (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER : EA11003). THEY DID SAY THAT VW WANTED ALL THE PARTS THAT THEY ARE REPLACING, INCLUDING FUEL PUMPS, SOME LINES, FUEL FILTER, AND FUEL INJECTORS. WORK IS TO BE COMPLETED ON OCTOBER 30, 2012. *TR

AFTER I RETURNED HOME, I STARTED THE CAR AND NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AT THAT POINT THE CAR SEEMED FINE. I WENT TO AUTOZONE TO SEE IF THEY COULD DOWNLOAD THE ERROR CODES THAT MIGHT PROVIDE SOME INSIGHT INTO WHAT COMPONENT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THEY COULD NOT DO THAT ACCORDING TO CA LAW. I PURCHASED A OBDII CODE READER AND DISCOVERED CODE P0191 AND P0087, BOTH RELATING TO THE FUEL SYSTEM. P0191 INDICATED THE FUEL RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR A CIRCUIT RANGE / PERFORMANCE. THE P0087 INDICATED THE FUEL RAIL / SYSTEM PRESSURE TOO LOW. WHILE RESEARCHING THESE CODES ON THE INTERNET I DISCOVERED A HUGE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION RELATING TO THIS ISSUE. I AM THANKFUL MY WIFE WAS NOT IN A HUGE AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC AS SHE COULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THE CAR SHUTTING DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON WITH THE TDI DIESEL ENGINE SINCE 2009. WHY HAS THERE BEEN NO RECALL TO FIX WHAT I BELIEVE IS A DEFECTIVE OR INFERIOR FUEL PUMP. IN THE MANY WORK ORDERS I HAVE READ VW IN MANY CASES BLAMED BAD FUEL (GAS IN THE DIESEL TANK) AS THE PROBLEM. I HAVE WRITTEN DOCUMENTATION FOR EVERY GALLON OF FUEL THAT HAS BEEN PUT IN THIS CAR SINCE IT WAS NEW. THE CAR HAS HAD ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE COMPLETED SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WHY WASN'T A RECALL ISSUED LIKE THEY DID WITH THE DSG TRANSMISSION. IS THIS DENIAL ON VW'S PART SO THEY DON'T GET A BUNCH OF BAD PRESS? *TR
