MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING OUR 2010 VW JETTA CLEAN DIESEL TDI ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT CAME ON AND THERE WAS LOSS OF POWER; SHE PUSHED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR BUT TO NO AVAIL. AS THE CAR SLOWED DOWN, SHE WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE NEARBY OFF RAMP AND GET CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. BY THE TIME THE CAR WAS COASTING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THERE WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER - STEERING, BRAKES, EVERYTHING. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY INFORMED WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED AND IT WOULD COST $8,000 TO REPAIR. THE VOLKSWAGEN APPROVED MISFUELING GUARD WAS INSTALLED AT THE LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP SOON AFTER WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM VW REGARDING IT. A WEEK PRIOR WE HAD RECEIVED IN THE MAIL FROM VW THEIR HPFP WARRANTY EXTENSION LETTER. HOWEVER OUR CAR IS AT 131,000 MILES. WE CONTACTED THE VWOA CUSTOMER CARE GROUP AND EXPLAINED OUR CASE ASKING THEM TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. WE HAD PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM THE VW DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. WE EVEN POINTED OUT THAT WE HAD BEEN LOYAL VW CUSTOMERS OVER THE YEARS - HAVING PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED A JETTA, PASSAT AND BEETLE AND MY WIFE'S FAMILY HAS A LONG HISTORY OF VW PURCHASES. VW RESPONSE WAS THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR US AS THE WARRANTY ONLY WENT UP TO 120,000 MILES AND WE WERE OVER IT. IT APPEARS BEING A LOYAL VW CUSTOMER IS NOT WORTH ANYTHING TO VW. WE HAVE APPEALED SEVERAL TIMES BUT KEPT GETTING THE SAME RESPONSE - NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND THEY HAVE NOW REFUSED TO FORWARD UP OUR CASE UP IN THE VWOA ORGANIZATION. WE HAVE PUT NOTHING BUT DIESEL INTO THE CAR AND URGE THE NHTSA TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THE HPFP. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT A PART THAT COSTS LESS THAN $1,000 CAN CAUSE $8,000 IN DAMAGES IS POOR ENGINEERING DESIGN. ONE EXPECTS BETTER AND FOR A DIESEL ENGINE TO LAST AT LEAST 200,000 MILES.
DROVE THE CAR IN THE AFTERNOON AND PARKED IT AT AN OFFICE BUILDING. GOT BACK INTO MY CAR ABOUT AN HOUR LATER AND WHEN THE CAR TURNED ON, THE RADIO WAS COMPLETELY BLACK. NOTHING WORKED AND WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON. CHECKED FUSES AND THEY SEEMED TO BE FINE. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF LOOKING AT IT, THEY SAID THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE RADIO WIRING AND THERE WAS NO WAY TO FIX IT WITH A NEW PART AND THE ONLY PARTS AVAILABLE WERE REFURBISHED PARTS FOR AT LEAST THE SALE OF $600+! THIS IS A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR JUST A RADIO I THINK WHEN THERE ARE PARTS CHEAPER AFTER MARKET. I ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR ALMOST 5 YEARS, IT SHOULDN'T HAVE THESE PROBLEMS SO SOON!
WHILE DRIVING IN MIDDLE LANE OF THE FREEWAY MY 2010 VOLKWAGEN JETTA TDI LOST POWER AND AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. VEHICLE WAS ALMOST STRUCK BY TRAFFIC WHILE MAKING MY WAY TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. CAR WAS TOWED TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE I LEARNED THAT THE VEHICLE'S HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE I LEARNED FAILURE THIS HAPPENED FREQUENTLY 2009 - 2010 TDI CLEAN DIESEL VEHICLES AND INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO FIXED BEFORE A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH OCCURS.
WHILE TRAVELING EASTBOUND ON INTERSTATE 82 IN WASHINGTON OUR 2010 JETTA EXPERIENCED A SAFETY-RELATED MALFUNCTION; THE "GLOW PLUG" LAMP ILLUMINATED, THEN THE "SERVICE ENGINE NOW" LAMP ILLUMINATED, FOLLOWED BY AN IMMEDIATE COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. AFTER COMING TO A STOP, THE ENGINE WAS ABLE TO BE RE-STARTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS "LIMPED" WITH LIMITED POWER TO WITHIN A MILE OF OVERTURF VOLKSWAGEN IN KENNEWICK, WASHINGTON. THERE THE ENGINE EXPERIENCED ANOTHER TOTAL LOSS OF POWER AND WAS UNABLE TO BE RE-STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO OVERTURF VOLKSWAGEN AND WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE "HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP" HAD EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE, RESULTING IN METAL SHAVINGS FROM THE PUMP ENTERING THE FUEL SYSTEM, CLOGGING THE FUEL INJECTORS, AND STARVING THE ENGINE OF FUEL. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THIS ISSUE IS A DESIGN FLAW AND IS WELL KNOWN TO VOLKSWAGEN, BUT WERE TOLD THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT QUALIFIED TO HAVE THIS "WARRANTY ISSUE" RESOLVED AT VOLKSWAGEN'S EXPENSE BECAUSE OF THE VEHICLE'S "REBUILT" BRANDED TITLE. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS PUMP FAILURE IS OCCURRING ONLY IN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THIS PARTICULAR PUMP, AND VOLKSWAGEN HAS BEEN REPLACING THEM ON VEHICLES THAT ARE PAST THEIR WARRANTY PERIOD, AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. I SEE THIS ISSUE AS A SAFETY ISSUE, NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE, DUE TO THE COMPLETE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER THAT CAN OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I SEE NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "CLEAN TITLED" VEHICLES AND "REBUILT TITLED" VEHICLES AND THE CHANCE OF THIS PUMP FAILURE OCCURRING WITHOUT WARNING. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED AT VOLKSWAGEN'S EXPENSE, DUE TO THE DESIGN FLAW OF THE VEHICLE'S HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THANK YOU.
RADIO SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. NO POWER. BLACK SCREEN. I CHECKED THE FUSES AND TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUDIO SOUND PLACE - THEY TOOK OUT THE RADIO TO CHECK THE FUSE IN THE BACK. ALL FUSES WORK, RADIO IS GROUNDED AND POWER IS FINE. RADIO IS DEAD. SEEMS THERE ARE QUITE A FEW 2010 JETTAS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE DELPHI RADIO - I READ SOMEWHERE THAT PERHAPS THE FUSE FOR THE RADIO SHOULD BE A 10A NOT A 15A AND THAT SOME BOARD IS GETTING FRIED WITH THE HIGHER FUSE...WHO IS ACCOUNTABLE?
INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION. ENGINE DIED AS IF THE CAR RAN OUT OF FUEL. TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT TURNOVER. IT WOULD ONLY CRANK. ACTED LIKE IT RAN OUT OF FUEL BUT THERE WAS HALF A TANK OF FUEL.
STEREO JUST WENT COMPLETELY DEAD FOR NO REASON. BLUETOOTH IS OUT OF COMMISSION AS WELL. THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS EVERYONE ELSE HERE. I CHECKED MY FUSES AND THEY ARE ALL FINE. WENT TO MY LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN DEALER AND GOT THE SAME SONG AND DANCE AS EVERYONE ELSE HERE. MY SERVICE TECH AT FIRST TRIED TO DENY THAT THIS IS AN INHERENT PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES, BUT AFTER ME PRESSING HIM ON THE ISSUE AND ASKED IF HE HAD READ ALL OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET, HE FESSED UP. VERY FRUSTRATING AS MY CAR ONLY HAS 80,000 MILES WHEN BOTH THE STEREO AND THE A/C QUIT WORKING. HE GAVE ME A LOAD OF BULL ON THAT ONE AS WELL. FROM NOW ON I WILL ONLY DRIVE A HONDA OR TOYOTA.
PULLED AWAY FROM STOP SIGN INTO TRAFFIC. ENGINE QUIT AS IF FUEL WAS CUT OFF. COASTED TO SIDE OF ROADWAY. CAR WOULD NOT RESTART THOUGH IT DID CRANK. ABOUT A THIRD OF A TANK OF FUEL, 80K SERVICE WAS TWO WEEKS AGO. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO SHOP.
HIGHWAY DRIVING, GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING, STARTED LOSING POWER, THEN STALL. MANAGED TO COAST OFF ONTO AN EXIT RAMP. MECHANIC TOWED, FOUND BATTERY/ALTERNATOR FINE, FUEL PRESSURE FINE, SUGGESTED DEALER REPAIR. VW DEALER SAYS ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDS REPLACING: HPFP, FUEL LINES, ETC. NOTED NHTSA INVESTIGATION PENDING ON VOLKSWAGEN FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS FOR SIMILAR MAKE, MODEL, YEAR: NHTSA ACTION NUMBER :EA11003
VW 2010 TDI - RADIO DEAD. COMPLETELY WENT BLACK, UNRESPONSIVE. DISCOVERED WRONG FUSE IN LINE WITH RADIO - 15A WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN 10A ACCORDING TO SPEC. THIS OVER TIME CAUSED THE RADIO TO FRY. VW OF A DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND GIVES THE STANDARD REPLY THAT IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. A 5 YEAR OLD VEHILCE, WITH 100K MILES - THE RADIO SHOULD NOT BE FAILING AT THIS AGE, FURTHER, THIS IS A 1000+$ FIX. RIDICULOUS
I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 VW JETTA TO WORK WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED RAPIDLY BLINKING. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. CALLED VW DEALERSHIP. THEY SUGGESTED TOWING MY VEHICLE. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. ACCORDING TO THE VW DEALERSHIP, IGNITION COILS NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VW DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NOT A RECALL FOR THIS REPAIR. HOWEVER, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR FAULTY IGNITION COIL IN PREVIOUS YEARS FOR THE JETTA. I THINK VW SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD.
RADIO WENT COMPLETELY DEAD. SCREEN IS BLANK AND NO RESPONSE. BLUETOOTH AND OTHER FEATURES CONNECTED TO THE RADIO DO WORK. PREVIOUS TIME IN THE CAR THE RADIO WAS WORKING FINE. NOW RADIO IS DEAD AND REST OF CAR SEAMS FINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BLUETOOTH FEATURE FAILED TO WORK WHENEVER THE RADIO WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY, CARS RADIO JUST DIES COMPLETELY STOPS. QUICKLY MOVED OVER NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS WRONG. WORRIED SOMETHING COULD HAPPEN TO CAR ITSELF. GOT HOME CHECKED FUSES WHICH WERE FINE.TURNED CAR BACK ON, VEHICLE DASH IS DISPLAYING SEVERAL INDICATORS. NOT SURE IF CAR IS EVEN SAFE TO DRIVE.VOLKSWAGEN DIDN'T ACKNOWLEDGE ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO THIS.
RADIO SUDDENLY QUIT. I SEE FROM THE INTERNET THAT THIS HAPPENS A LOT WITH JETTAS. I HAVE NEVER HAD A FACTORY RADIO JUST STOP WORKING IN ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE OWNED. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR.
RADIO STOPPED WORKING IN VW JETTA TDI 2010 - I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE AND STARTED THE ENGINE - AFTER FINDING THAT THE RADIO DID NOT START UP, I PUSHED THE POWER BUTTON BUT WITH NO SUCCESS. I CHECKED THE FUSE AND IT SEEMS FINE, THEN I LOOKED UP THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME EXACT YEAR AND MODEL (TDI). AS A RESULT, I AM UNABLE TO USE BLUETOOTH FOR HANDS FREE PHONE CONVERSATION WHICH PRESENTS A SAFETY ISSUE.

MY CAR KEEPS THROWING A P0401 CODE EGR INSUFFICIENT FLOW. THE DEALER TOLD ME ITS MIGHT BE A CRACKED DPF FILTER. AFTER LOOKING ON VW FORUMS ABOUT THE PROBLEM ITS GOING TO BE AROUND A $3000 FIX. SINCE THE CAR IS NOT A "CLEAN DIESEL" AS ADVERTISED THE SYSTEM IS GETTING CLOGGED DUE TO THE FACT THE CAR COMPUTER FAKE SOFTWARE
I TURNED MY CAR ON AND THE RADIO WAS DEAD. THE RADIO IS ALSO THE BLUETOOTH DEVICE AND IS NOW UNSAFE FOR ME TO USE MY PHONE WHILE IN THE CAR. I HAVE READ THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. *TR
HANDS FREE/BLUETOOTH/RADIO NOT WORKING. SCREEN WENT DEAD SUDDENLY. FUSES CHECKED AND ALL ARE OK. INABILITY TO USE AUDIO UNIT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. CALLED EAST COAST VW IN ENGLEWOOD, NJ AND DEALER STATED CAR OUT OF WARRANTY. CAR IS A 2010 VW JETTA WITH 47,000 MILES. VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA CONTACTED TO NO AVAIL. LOGGED COMPLAINT WITH BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. BATTERY REPLACED DUE TO DRAINAGE.
THE CAR STARTED TO MAKE A STRANGE SOUND AND SHORTLY AFTER LOST ALMOST ALL POWER THEN STALLED OUT. THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT WAS FLASHING WHICH INDICATES A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM. IT RESTARTED BUT STILL HAD NO POWER. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE IT STALLED AGAIN AND NOW WOULD NOT RESTART. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHERE THEY FOUND THAT THE HPFP HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. WHEN IT FAILED IT SELF DESTRUCTED PUTTING METAL SHAVINGS THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. VW'S RECOMMENDED REPAIR IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM AT A COST OF OVER $8000. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND HAS NEVER BEEN MISFUELED. *TR
STARTING IN MAY 2015 WE BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD NOT ALWAYS SEEM TO WORK CORRECTLY WHEN MY SON SAT THERE. I JUST FIGURED IT TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHT IN THE DASH. MY SON WEIGHING IN THE 60 POUND RANGE, I KNEW IT SHOULD NOT OF BEEN ON WHEN HE WAS THERE. SOMETIMES IT SAID OFF SOMETIMES IT DID NOT. I ALWAYS FELT THIS WAS AN INDICATOR LIGHT ISSUE NOT THINKING A CAR THIS NEW WITH SUCH LOW MILES COULD HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRBAG. ON AUGUST 23, 2015 AS I WAS DRIVING ALONE I NOTICED THE CAR WAS NOT COOLING DOWN SO I WAS LOOKING TO SEE IF I FORGOT TO TURN SOMETHING ON WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE A/C WAS INDEED ON, AND NOT WORKING, AS WELL AS THE AIRBAG LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS ILLUMINATED. THERE ARE MULTIPLE PROBLEMS. DEALER DIAGNOSTICS VERIFIED MY CONCERNS. FOUND DTCS PRESENT FOR PODS MODULE. PODS MODULE NEEDS REPLACED. FOUND DTCS FOR HIGH PRESSURE SWITCH OPEN. SENSOR NEEDS REPLACED. ESTD; $1800 THE PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS THAT THE SENSOR FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE PERSON DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY. VW HAS THIS INTEGRATED INTO THE SEAT BASE THAT ALSO IS HEATED. THE ENTIRE SEAT BASE WITH REPLACEMENT COST OF OVER $1400 MUST BE REPLACED IN ITS ENTIRETY TO MAKE THIS REPAIR. AT THIS POINT I WAS TOLD THAT VW IS NOT MAKING REPAIRS OF THIS TYPE. SINCE THEN I HAVE ALSO HAD THE TIRE LIGHTS COME ON THEN OFF PERIODICALLY AS WELL AS SOME IPOD DOCK ISSUES. THERE SEEMS TO BE MANY ISSUES RELATED TO ELECTRICAL ISSUES THAT VW FEELS THEY HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY OVER. I HAVE READ THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES POSTED UNOFFICIALLY ON OTHER SITES.
THE RADIO WITH BLUETOOTH DIED AT 90507 MILES AND NOW THE BATTERY AND NEW BATTERY LOOSE CHARGE. I WAS DRIVING AROUND TOWN THIS PAST FRIDAY (4/24/15) AND THE RADIO MADE A LOUD "POP" SOUND AND THEN IT STOPPED WORKING; THE TOUCHSCREEN WENT BLACK AND WILL NOT TURN ON OR DISPLAY THE TIME. I CHECKED ALL THE FUSES (INCLUDING THE ONE BEHIND THE RADIO), AND THEY WERE ALL FINE. DRIVING ON 2-LANE LEVEL ROAD, DRY WEATHER, DRY ROAD CONDITIONS, AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 15 MILES, AT ABOUT 35 MPH, VEHICLE DROPPED OUT OF GEAR, APPEARED TO BE IN NEUTRAL WHILE MOVING. ABS/ESP LIGHT CAME ON DASHBOARD. PUT ON FLASHERS AND HAND SIGNALED TO VEHICLES BEHIND ME AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I SHUT OFF ENGINE AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART CAR, AND WENT A SHORT DISTANCE TO A STORE PARKING LOT, AND THE ESP LIGHT CAME BACK ON; AND THIS TIME THE GEAR SHIFT WAS LOCKED IN PARK AND FLASHING. VW DEALER HAD REPLACED ORIGINAL REAR BRAKES (PADS & ROTORS) ON 4/16/15 AT 104.734 MILES. VW CHECKED VEHICLE ON 4/28/2015 AND FOUND AN ERROR CODE 01315 IN THE ABS AND GATEWAY MODULES WHICH REPORTEDLY INDICATED INTERMITTENT NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE TCM; HOWEVER IT WAS FUNCTIONING AT THAT TIME. AT THIS TIME I ALSO NOTED NOISE IN BRAKES, AS IF THEY WERENT COMPLETELY RELEASING OR MAKING REAR BRAKES MAKING NOISE WHEN RELEASING BRAKE PEDAL. THE PROBLEM DID NOT REOCCUR UNTIL ABOUT 3,000 MILES LATER AND AGAIN VEHICLE DROPPED OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING AGAIN ON LEVEL ROAD AT ABOUT 35 MPH. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT VW DEALER SERVICE AND MECHATRONIC UNIT AND TRANSMISSION WIRING IS BEING REPLACED. I ALSO HAVE CONSISTENTLY NOTED TO VW SINCE 4,000 MILEAGE, PERIODIC SLIPPING IN LOWER GEARS, WHICH VW SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. ALL SERVICE MAINTENANCE COMPLETED AT SAME VW DEALER, INCLUDING ALL DSG TRANSMISSION MAINTENANCE.

THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN AN ELECTRICAL NIGHT MARE. STARTED OFF AROUND SEPTEMBER OF LAST YEAR WITH AN INTERMITTENT MISFIRE. DEALER REPLACED INTAKE ASSEMBLY. A MONTH LATER RANDOM CYLINDER MISFIRES. IT COMES AND GOES WITH MIL LIGHT COMING ON. BEEN IN TO DEALER A COUPLE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THEY KEEP WANTING MORE MONEY TO DIAGNOSE. SUNROOF DRAINS COME APART ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER AUTOMOBILE. WET INTERIOR ALLOWS MOLD TO GROW INSIDE CAR CAUSING A POSSIBLE HEALTH HAZARD. WINDOWS STEAM UP BLOCKING VIEW OUT OF CAR CAUSING DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. WATER DRIPS ONTO ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS AND MOISTURE PRESENT IN CAR CAUSES CORRODING OF ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS INCREASING THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION AND HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITION. *TR
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, THE SPEAKERS MADE A LOUD POP AND THE ENTIRE STEREO SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING (RADIO WAS NOT ON). THIS INCLUDED BLUETOOTH AND ALL HANDS-FREE FUNCTIONS FOR COMMUNICATION. THOUGH THE RADIO IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, THE BLUETOOTH HANDS FREE FUNCTION IS VITAL, AND IT WILL NOT WORK. I'VE CALLED VW AND HAD IT LOOKED AT, AND LEARNED THAT VW IS AWARE THAT MANY OF THEIR 2010 VW JETTAS WERE MADE WITH FAULTY RADIOS. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE, AND VW REFUSES A RECALL. MULTIPLE VW EMPLOYEES SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL, BUT THE COMPANY WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I'VE QUOTED REPLACEMENT COST AND IT FALLS BETWEEN $700 AND $800 TO REPLACE THE SYSTEM AND HAVE THE ABILITY TO USE MY HANDS FREE FUNCTION THAT WAS PART OF THE REASON I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. AFTER PARKING IN PARKING LOT, CAR STARTED UP AND APPEARED INITIALLY OK, BUT THEN EXPERIENCED TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE AFTER DRIVING <300 FEET. CAR WAS TOWED TO MECHANIC. MECHANIC INDICATES THAT METAL FRAGMENTS/FLAKES WERE FOUND DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT FUEL SYSTEM/ENGINE, CONSISTENT WITH FAILURE OF HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS CONDITION WAS CONSISTENT WITH PICTURES/DESCRIPTION FOUND IN TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 23 14 03.

FLEW TO DALLAS TO PURCHASE THIS CAR 2/27/15. DROVE IT HOME 1500 MILES TO LOS ANGELES OVER 2 DAYS. GOT TO EL PASO ON 3/1/15 & GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT TRAVELING AT A VERY SLOW SPEED (15MPH OR LESS) GOING DOWNHILL. MY PARTICULAR ISSUE COMES IN THE WAY OF HOW THE TRANSMISSION BEHAVES GOING DOWNHILL AT HIGH OR SLOW SPEEDS. WHEN THE CARS ECU (ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT) SENSES THE CAR GOING DOWNHILL, AND YOU TRANSITION FROM THE THROTTLE PEDAL TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CAR BEHAVES AS IF YOU WERE DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTING & STAYING IN GEAR. NOW YOU MAY THINK THAT'S NOT A PROBLEM, BUT....SINCE THESE TRANSMISSIONS TECHNICALLY ARE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS WITH AN AUTOMATIC CLUTCH...IF YOU WERE DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR & WANTED TO STOP QUICKLY AS I DID TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER CAR, YOU WOULD PUSH THE CLUTCH IN TO DISENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE ENGINE...& THUS CAUSE THE CAR TO LOSE IT'S LOCOMOTIVE FORCE. WELL, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THIS CAR DID DURING THE ACCIDENT. THE AUTOMATIC CLUTCH DID NOT DISENGAGE FROM THE ENGINE WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP, AND, THUS PROVIDED THE MASSIVE LOW END TORQUE THE DIESEL ENGINE PROVIDES EVEN AT VERY LOW ENGINE SPEEDS. HOWEVER, HANDS FREE CALLING IS NON-FUNCTIONAL SINCE THE BLUETOOTH REQUIRES THE RADIO FOR THE MICROPHONE AND SPEAKERS.
