RECALL NO. 17V509 IN NOVEMBER 2015, WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, MY CAR STALLED. WHEN I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THE FUEL PUMP WAS FAULTY AND REPLACED IT. AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2015, WHILE DRIVING UP A STEEP ROAD, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR LOST POWER AND BEGAN REVERSING, BEFORE CRASHING INTO A BARRIER. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE BARRIER PREVENTED THE CAR FROM GOING OVER A HILL INTO THE RIVER. ONCE AGAIN A LOCAL DEALERSHIP LATER TOLD ME THE FUEL PUMP WAS AT FAULT. IT WAS NOT UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2017 THAT I LEARNED OF A RECALL THAT "CAUSE A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, WHICH COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH." THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE.
I HAVE AN AIR BAG LIGHT ON AND I GET A WARNING SIGN THAT IT SHOULD BE SERVICED. WIPERS ARE NOT THAT EFFECTIVE AND I KEEP ON HAVING FOGY WINDOWS SO I HAVE TO KEEP ON ADJUSTING THE HEAT.
I WAS DRIVING ON I 70 GOING HOME , I WAS RUNNING 75 MPG AND IT WAS A LOT CAR THAT DAY , AND I WAS GOING DOWN THE HILL OF I70 ALL THE SUDDEN MY CAR WAS LOSS ENGINE POWER GOING ON DOWN HILL ON TURNINGS ROAD . AND THE ENGINE MAKING MAKING LOUD NOISE THE THE USUALLY, I ALMOST GET HIT VIEW TIMES WHEN I TRYING TO MOVE MY CAR OF THE TRAFFIC FROM THE LEFT TO THE RIGHT LANE SO I'M NOT BLOCKING THE TRAFFIC. IT WAS SCARY CAUSE THE CAR TOTALLY LOSING POWER IN HIGHWAY I70 ON THE CURVES ROAD WHERE OTHER VEHICLES CAN SEE ME STOPPING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD . IT'S SCARRY EXPERIENCE DRIVING IN MY LIVE .I'M LUCKY TOW TRUCK WAS PASSING BY ,AND STOP HELPING ME TO GET HELP . AND OTHER TOWING TRUCK CAME AND TOW MY CAR TO MY HOUSE , UNTIL NOW THE CAR SEAT IN MY GARAGE. AND I HAVE MY MECHANIC COME TO MY HOUSE AND CHECK WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MY CAR ,AND HE SAY IT'S THE OI PUMP BOLT IS BROKEN AND IT'S COMING OUT THAT WAY MY CAR LOSE THE POWER ALL THE SUDDEN HE SAY . AND HE TOLD IT HAPPEN A LOT FOR THIS PASSAT 3.6L 4MOTION 2006 AND HE SUGGESTED ME TO DO RESEARCH ABOUT THE ISSUE ON THE INTERNET.
TIMING CHAIN FAILURE
ATTEMPTED TO START MY VEHICLE BY PRESSING THE KEY FOB INTO THE IGNITION. CAR DID NOT START AND THE MESSAGE "STEERING COLUMN DEFECTIVE" WAS DISPLAYED. ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME THE CAR FAILED TO EVEN TURN THE ENGINE OVER. IN ADDITION, THE KEY FOB CANNOT BE EXTRACTED FROM THE IGNITION. NOW THE CAR IS IMMOBILE. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND QUICKLY DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A PREVALENT ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. MANY OTHER'S HAVE VOICED THEIR COMPLAINT WITH VW REGARDING THIS ISSUE BUT DESPITE THIS, VW STILL HAS YET TO EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE CAR, BEING BOUGHT THROUGH A VW DEALERSHIP PRE-OWNED, WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 80K MILES ON IT AND HAD ONLY ACCRUED 10K MILES SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED, BY ME AND FROM THE DEALERSHIP, 14 MONTHS AGO.
LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING AND THE EPC LIGHT CAME ON. NOW THE "STOP NO OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON AND ENGINE IS NOT OF NORMAL SOUND. HAD TO HAVE TOWED TO GARAGE AND THE ENGINE NEEDS REPLACED. OIL PUMP BAD ALONG WITH MANY OTHER PARTS.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN I TOOK THE CARE IN TO GET CHECKED OUT I WAS TOLD THAT SOMETHING ON THE INSIDE RUBS THE WIRES AND DUE TO THAT TURNS OFF THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM. IT IS NOT AN ISSUE CAUSED BY CONSUMERS SINCE IT IS INTERNAL AND A VERY CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE. THEY PASS ON THE CHARGE TO THE CONSUMER WHICH IS RIGHT AROUND $1,200.00. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE ON MULTIPLE LEVELS.
I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY GOING TOWARDS HOME AND WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65MPH WHEN SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND A SMELL OF SOMETHING BURNING AND ALL THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND OPENED THE HOOD AND GOT OUT TO CHECK WHAT WAS GOING ON. WHEN I VISUALLY INSPECTED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT I NOTICED A HOLE IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND LOOKING CLOSER I NOTICED CRACKS WHERE THE BOLTS HOLD THE INTAKE MANIFOLD ON. ALSO THE AIR FILTER BOX MOUNTS ARE ALSO CRACKED AND THAT IS ALL I CAN SEE WITHOUT FURTHER INVESTIGATION (REMOVING ENGINE). I TOWED IT TO A VW DEALERSHIP IN EASTON PA WHERE I PURCHASED IT. I TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HE SAID THEY WOULD EVALUATE IT AND IT COST $129 TO TELL ME THAT THEY HAD TO PULL THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE DOWN WHICH WOULD COST ME AN ADDITIONAL $1000 JUST FOR THE LABOR AND WOULD LET ME KNOW WHAT ELSE IS NOT BROKEN. I TOLD THEM NO. THEY WOULD NOT TELL ME WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS WRONG BUT WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER ONE ON ONE OUTSIDE THE BUILDING HE ADMITTED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF VW. I HAD IT TOWED BACK TO MY HOME. I AM MECHANICALLY INCLINED AND AFTER SOME RESEARCH ON THE COMPUTER SAW THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF VW HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. THE CAR LOST TIMING CONTRIBUTING TO THE TIMING CHAINS BEING DISCONNECTED. ONLINE THEY MENTION ABOUT THE OIL PUMP BOLT BACKING ITS WAY OUT AND THE TIMING CHAINS BECOMING DISCONNECTED. WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR IT WAS USED AND HAD 70,000 MILES AND ONE OWNER AND WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT HAD 120,000 AND ACCORDING TO OUR RESEARCH THIS OIL PUMP BOLT ISSUE OCCURS USUALLY BETWEEN 70,000 AND 100,000 IN THE 2006 AND 2007 VW PASSAT 3.6. IF VW KNEW THESE BOLTS WERE COMING OUT THEY SHOULD HAVE ISSUED A RECALL. VW KNEW THIS WAS AN ISSUE.
THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE COST SHOULD BE COVERED BY A RECALL. VOLKSWAGEN IS REFUSING TO PAY.
AIRBAG LIGHT COME AND STAYS ON. THE CODE IS VAG 01218 SIDE AIRBAG IGNITER, FRT PASS SIDE UPPER LIMIT EXCEEDED. INTERMITTENT. DEALER SAYS I HAVE TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE AIRBAG SYSTEM AT $700 COST. WHY IS THIS NOT PART OF THE GENERAL RECALL ON THIS ISSUE THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUE IN VW HAS RELEASE A SERVICE ACTION FOR THIS ISSUE. SERVICE ACTION 97U3/T3. WHY IS NOT MY CAR INCLUDED IN THIS? TRAVELING OVER 400 MILES, 70 MILES PER HOUR, ENGINE LIGHT ON, OIL LIGHT ON, STOP DRIVING. CHECKED OIL, RESERVOIR FULL. TOWED ON FLATBED TO NEAREST DEALER. METAL IN OIL, TOLD I NEED A NEW ENGINE. LIKE ALL THE OTHERS I READ ABOUT, ALL MAINTENANCE WAS DONE PER VW. NEW TIRES TWO WEEKS AGO TO THE TUNE OF $1100+ . TIMING BELT HAS BEEN DONE. INSPECTIONS DONE PER STATE REGS. OIL CHANGES ON TIME. DEALERSHIP HAS NOT MENTIONED THE BOLT ON THE OIL PUMP, BUT WHAT ELSE WOULD PUT METAL IN THE OIL. NICE JOB VW. NO RECALL, NO RECOURSE. WAITING TO HEAR WHAT THEY WILL GIVE ME FOR THE CAR AS I AM TOLD NEW ENGINE IS $11K. :(
I HAVE RECEIVED SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES BUT THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND I AM AFRAID MY KIDS COULD HAVE A FATAL ACCIDENT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE "PLEASE STOP, THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE IS LOW" WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE OIL PICKUP TUBE WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
2006 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. ATTORNEY REPRESENTING CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO EMERGENCY/ SIGNAL LIGHTS MALFUNCTION, SUNROOF PROBLEMS AND OTHER VEHICLE ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY FAILS TO RECOGNIZE THE ELECTRONIC KEY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE. THE BLINKER/TURN SIGNALS FAIL TO TURN OFF WHEN PROMPTED. THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED THAT THE SIGNALS WOULD NOT TURN OFF UNLESS THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED COMPLETELY STRAIGHT. THE SUNROOF OPENS UNPROMPTED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS ROTTED UNDERNEATH. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTS FLASHED INCESSANTLY. *JS
MY CAR SUFFERS FROM A "STEERING COLUMN LOCK DEFECTIVE" ISSUE FOR WHICH VW OF AMERICA HAS ISSUED A RECALL AS IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS YEAR OF THE CAR. FOR SOME REASON MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL (BY VIN), AND NOW THAT THE PIECE IS STARTING TO FAIL THEY WILL NOT COVER IT. IT IS A CLEAR DEFECT AND IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED, BUT THEY STILL WANT ME TO PAY OUT OF POCKET ($800) TO COVER THE REPAIR COSTS. IF THIS PART FAILS, I WILL BE LEFT STRANDED WITH NO WAY OF TURNING THE CAR ON. A LOT OF MONEY HAS ALREADY BEEN SPENT FIXING THIS CAR AS THIS WAS A PROBLEMATIC YEAR FOR THIS MODEL. I DO NOT WANT TO SPEND MORE MONEY FIXING WHAT IS CLEARLY A DEFECT AND SOMETHING THAT VW HAS RECOGNIZED IS A PROBLEM AND IS FIXING IN OTHER CALLS FROM THE SAME YEAR. THANK YOU.
WHILE DRIVING IN-CITY, I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER. MY MIL INDICATOR STARTED FLASHING A YELLOW ENGINE LIGHT. AFTER LIMPING THE CAR HOME (<1MILE) MY VEHICLE DEVELOPED A HAMMERING NOISE BEFORE I TURNED IT OFF. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DETERMINED THE ISSUE WAS ENGINE SLUDGE. AFTER CONTACTING VW REGARDING THE ISSUE THEY REFUSED TO TAKE ANY ACTIONS. I HAVE FULLY MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE BASED ON MANUFACTURER SCHEDULED SERVICE INTERVALS, OFTEN MORE FREQUENTLY THAN LISTED. I DID LEARN THERE WAS AN ACTIVE RECALL FOR THE POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION SYSTEM WHICH CAN DIRECTLY EFFECT THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENGINE SLUDGE. DESPITE THIS CONNECTION, VW STILL REFUSED TO TAKE ANY ACTION ON THE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT FORCE WAS CONSTANTLY APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON FOUR OCCASIONS WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON AND ALARM . SAID TO STOP CAR . OIL PUMP BOLT BROKE. NO OIL PRESSURE. *TR
The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that while approaching an off ramp while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where an unknown diagnostic test and repair was completed. Additionally, the dealer fractured an unknown part underneath the hood and water entered the vehicle near the sun visor and there was water accumulating on the rear passenger’s side door location. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.
THIS VEHICLE HAS AN ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE (EBRAKE) SYSTEM. THE PARKING BRAKE IS SET/RELEASED BY PRESSING A BUTTON ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASH BOARD. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AT HOME, I PRESSED THE EBRAKE AND THE EBRAKE LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH AND I WAS UNABLE TO SET IT. SO I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR A FEW MINUTES WHICH APPARENTLY RESET THE SYSTEM AND IT WORKED PROPERLY AGAIN. THEN A FEW DAYS LATER MY WIFE HAD THE VEHICLE IN TOWN. SHE GOT IN TO LEAVE THE MARKET AND TRIED TO RELEASE THE EBRAKE BUT IT BEGAN TO FLASH AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO RELEASE IT. SHE CALLED ME BECAUSE SHE WAS STUCK THERE AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I TOLD HER TO TRY AND DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND THEN RECONNECT IT. SHE WAS NEAR A GAS STATION SO SHE BORROWED A WRENCH AND DID WHAT I TOLD HER TO DO. AGAIN THE VEHICLE RESET ITSELF AND MY WIFE WAS THEN ABLE TO RELEASE THE BRAKE AND COME HOME. NOW I AVOID USING THE EBRAKE FOR FEAR OF THAT HAPPENING AGAIN, BUT NOW I FEEL THAT I'M OUT A PARKING BRAKE AND I'M NOT SURE IF I'LL HAVE AN ISSUE WITH IT WHILE DRIVING IT. I SAW COMPLAINTS ON LINE ABOUT PEOPLE WITH THIS CAR MODEL HAVING THE EBRAKE ENGAGE WHILE DRIVING CAUSING IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE STEERING TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT! PLEASE CONSIDER THIS AS A VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE, WORTHY OF RE-CALL STATUS. *TR

STEERING LOCK DEFECTIVE - SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE PART OF VW - I HAVE A VW PASSAT 06 AND KEEP ON GETTING THIS PROBLEM. *TR
DURING MILD ACCELERATION THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG, THE SEAT WAS UNOCCUPIED AT THE TIME. THE DEALER UNPLUGGED AND RECONNECTED THE LIGHT AND RESET THE WANING LIGHT. HE THEN ORDERED A NEW WIRING HARNESS PN 3C0971366DE WHICH WAS INSTALLED ON 11/26/2014. THIS PART IS CONNECTED TO A PART REPAIRED UNDER RECALL 97U3 PN 5K0998582 ON 01/14/2011. I DO NOT TRUST THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IN THIS CAR AND THINK THERE IS REASON FOR AN INVESTIGATION. THE EXPLANATION OF THE PROBLEM WAS INADEQUATE AND OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET INDICATE AN ON GOING PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THE PROBABLE PROBLEM WAS SALT AND CORROSION BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE. I HAVE THE OLD WIRING HARNESS AND IT IS IN MINT CONDITION. I THINK THE MOST LIKELY PROBLEM IS POOR CONTACT MATING. (THE PART IS AVAILABLE FOR YOUR INSPECTION IF YOU WOULD LIKE.) THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIRING CONNECTION TO THE HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN NOTIFIED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE RETRIEVING RANDOM CODES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
DRIVING 65 ON THE FREEWAY IN HEAVY RAIN, CAR MADE HORRIBLE SOUND AND LOST ACCELERATION POWER. ALMOST INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT , HOWEVER MANAGED TO PULL TO SHOULDER WHEN THE CAR THEN FILLED WITH A GAS SMELL. CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE AND WAS TOWED 100 MILES BACK TO MY MECHANIC. UPON INSPECTION, MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER DISCONNECTED AT THE TURBO FLANGE. HE ALSO STATED THAT HE HAD FIXED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM IN MY EXACT VEHICLE MAKE/MODEL THE WEEK PRIOR. CONTACTED VW TO SEE IF THIS WAS COVERED UNDER THE 80K MILES EMISSIONS WARRANTY, ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT IN CALIFORNIA THE WARRANTY ONLY GOES TO 70K MILES. THE ENTIRE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $1,150. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE REPLACEMENT CATALYTIC CONVERTER FROM VW WAS MUCH MORE STURDY THAN THE ORIGINAL INSTALLED , INDICATING THAT VW IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE. ADDITIONALLY, HE STATED IT WAS ODD THAT A CAR DEALERSHIP STOCKS THAT PART AS IT IS NOT TOO COMMON TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER UNDER 100K MILES. *TR
STEERING COLUMN LOCK DEFECTIVE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WOULD RANDOMLY DIE OUT TURN BACK ON AND RANDOMLY DIE OUT AGAIN. ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I'M HAVING CONCERNS WITH OPEN ROAD VOLKSWAGEN OF BRIDGEWATER NJ IN REFERENCE TO WHAT I BELIEVE WAS NEGLIGENCE ON THE PART OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. MY CAR WAS SERVICED IN JUNE 2014 AND THEN AGAIN IN OCTOBER 2014. ON OCTOBER 13TH, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THEM STATING MY TRANSMISSION WAS GONE AND WOULD COST $10,000 TO REPLACE. TURBO CHARGER IS FAULTY. I STILL OWE $12,00 ON THIS CAR. IT IS APPEARING THRU THE FORUMS ONLINE THAT THE DIESEL ENGINE IS NOT THE ONLY ENGINE AFFECTED BY THE RECENT EMMISION FAILURE OF VOLKSWAGON CAR. MY CAR WAS SIMPLY IDLING IN PARK AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD THE IDLE REV UP AND THE TACHOMETER WENT UP A FEW 100 RPM'S. I THOUGHT, HMM THAT'S STRANGE. HORN AND AIRBAG HAD SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING AFTER HAVING THE CAR FOR ONLY 7 YEARS. WAS THINKING IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE FUSE, BUT SADLY NO. SOMETIMES THE HORN SUDDENLY BURSTS TO LIFE IN SHORT SESSIONS, BUT ONLY WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS JUST TURNED ON, RARELY IS IT HEARD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO HAVE THE HEADLIGHT REPAIRED. BOTH HAD STOPPED WORKING OVER THE WEEKEND DUE TO THE INSULATION BECOMING BRITTLE AND BREAKING OFF OF BOTH WIRES TO THE PLUG THAT HOLDS THE LIGHT BULB. THE WIRES WERE SHORTING OUT PREVENTING THE HEADLIGHTS FROM WORKING. I MADE A TEMPORARY FIX BY APPLYING ELECTRICAL TAPE TO THE WIRES THAT ALLOWED THE LIGHTS TO WORK. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 120000 MILES ON IT. THE SERVICE PEOPLE AT WEST HOUSTON VW, [XXX], INDICATED THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM AND THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ABOUT $ 800. I SEE THIS AS A DEFECT WITH THE WIRES USED FOR THE ASSEMBLY. I CHECKED ON-LINE AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THE 2006 PASSAT HEADLIGHTS FAILING. I CONTACTED VW CUSTOMER CARE FOR ASSISTANCE AND WAS DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE AGE OF THE CAR AND THE MILEAGE. THEY ALSO INDICATED THERE WAS NO RECALL OR SERVICE ALERT ON THE PROBLEM. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE SINCE THE STAFF AT WEST HOUSTON VW KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS ONCE WE DESCRIBED IT TO THEM. IT SEEMED TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM THAT THEY HAVE SEEN WITH THE HEADLIGHTS FAILING. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE BOTH FROM THE LACK OF LIGHTS AND THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT THAT COULD CAUSE A FIRE. I HAVE WORKED FOR A WIRE MANUFACTURER AND THE INSULATION DOES NOT JUST BECOME BRITTLE AND FALL OFF OF THE WIRE. THERE IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH THE INSULATION ON THE WIRE. ELECTRONIC EMERGENCY BRAKE FAULT; WAS DRIVING ON JANUARY 18,2014. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35 MPH WHEN THIS EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING YELLOW. ALSO THERE WAS A RED BRAKE LIGHT THAT WAS FLASHING AND BEEPING THREE TIMES. SHE GOT THE CAR UNDER CONTROL MIND YOU SHE IS ONLY 17 AND SHE JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM CAMPUS AUTO HERE IN FORT DODGE, IA ON THE 10TH AND HE TOLD HER NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. EVERYTHING HAS WENT WRONG WITH THIS CAR THAT CAN GO WRONG. SHE PULLED OVER AND READ IN HER MANUAL THAT WITH THE BEEPING 3 TIMES AND THE RED LIGHT INDICATOR SAID THAT SHE WAS SUPPOSE TO GET IT TO A TRUSTED MECHANIC RIGHT AWAY. SO SHE DID THE SMART THING AND CALLED ME TO HAVE THE CAR TAKEN TO A MECHANIC. BUT WHAT IF SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. SHE WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THIS CAR ON A HIGHWAY. PLEASE LOOK INTO THESE PASSAT. THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THEM. WHEEL BEARINGS ARE BAD IN THE REAR. FUEL PUMP WENT BAD. COILS BURN.
