The contact owned a 2007 Volkswagen Passat. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 18V148000(Air Bags) and 17V509000 ( Fuel System, Gasoline), and would like to be removed from the recall distribution list. The local dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted.
I am filing a complaint in regards to Volkswagen failing to offer a solution to repair the Takata airbag which was recalled. I have tried contacting VW numerous times over the past two years as I live in Juneau, Alaska, which is landlocked and the only option is to send the vehicle on a ferry to either Anchorage or Seattle, WA to have this repair completed. The vehicle has not been driven in years due to the fear of what could happen if there were an accident and the airbag deployed. Please help me resolve this issue as Volkswagen is not taking action on this.
The timing belt is terrible on this vehicle. This is the same model and engine as the last recall but mine didn’t qualify because it is a 2007 not a 2008. The belt is and chain are completely unstable and prone to catastrophic failure that can happen anytime while driving especially on the highway. This could cause a huge accident. There is also a major issue with the fuel pumps and the hoses. My fuel tank is leaking gas above 3/4 of a tank and can cause a severe fire even if someone dropped a lit cigarette under the car while I am driving.
To start off, this car has common failures of the High Pressure Fuel Pump Cam Follower. This poses serious risk of damage to the engine when the follower is blown throw and the car goes into limp mode and if this happens on road it could be catastrophic. There were no warnings that this was the issue besides researching videos on YouTube while getting a fuel pressure code to find out the cam follower was completely blown throw which means my engine has MANY METAL pieces inside of my engine. If I did not catch this soon the next failure would’ve been the CAMSHAFT. The camshaft going bad at and given moment could also be catastrophic on the road and possibly even spark a fire. Another issue is with the timing chain on specific FSI engines. If this chain snaps mid drive then your engine could potentially blow in the middle of the road causing an accident. This problem is known by Volkswagen and they have yet to take serious action in regards to this safety hazard. Another potential for catastrophic events is the wiring harness specifically the one that runs under the Vacuum pump. These wires are covered in oil from the vacuum pump being prone to leaking and any fluid that goes on top of it. I also discovered that near my ECU to that wiring harness there was a spot of gasoline in which I was able to determine when I smelt the fluid with a glove on of course. This year make and model of Volkswagen can cause serious harm to those driving ESPECIALLY on the high way. The wiring harness and all components around it soak with oil and when you take off the manifold fuel also gets all over it even when you try to prevent it as much as you can. This has caused increased idle in my vehicle while driving with and EPC light that makes the car stall out of no where. If it happened when I was turning my wheel it could’ve caused an accident on the road or even a driver to have road rage behind me. Please help myself and fellow Passat owners of this year stay safe.
The brakes totally went out on my vehicle with no warning. It first started when I bought the car, the brake pad (almost brand new) almost set my left front rotor on fire within 10 minutes of driving. If I didn’t pull over there’s no question that my car would’ve set on fire. My fuel like was leaking heavily, and the emergency brake which is hydraulic wouldn’t even deploy. I could’ve gotten killed. There is also an extreme issue with the power train system. Completely unsafe.
While I was operating the vehicle the vehicle stopped in the middle of the street. It was told to me it's the fuel system. The car has been diagnosed back in November of 2021. The fuel pump is not getting fire to the other.
The Air bag fault message came on the dash. My VW Passat car was not involved in any accident. I took the car to VW dealer for the diagnosis for which I was charged. The air bag fault message is no longer there but I am sure my air bags have not been replaced. I have been advised that I may have to change the airbags in future.
I WAS DRIVING AND 2 LIGHT CAME ON , THE BATTERY LIGHT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I RAN IT THOUGH A SCANNER AND THE CODES THAT POPPED UP WERE CODE P0087 AND P2293
JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR AND AT 94206 MILES ON IT I CAN'T SEE HOW THE AIR COMPRESSOR WOULD GO OUT AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT I WANT TO SEE IF THERE IS RECALL ON THIS AT ALL IT'S A 2007 PLUS THERE 2 RECALLS NUMBER ARE 1ST ONE IS 20AE- NHTSA RECALL NUMBER IS 17V509 AUGUST 16 2017 AND NOW 2ND ONE IS MARCH 15 2018 MANUFACTURER RECALL # 69Q9 NHTSA RECALL # IS 18V148 I DON'T SEE ANYWHERE IF THE RECALL WERE FIXED
MY 16 BOUGHT A CAR FROM BOMMARITO VW HAZELWOOD, THEY TOLD US IT HAD PRIOR ENGINE WORK AND THE CUSTOMER COULDN'T PAY FOR THE CHARGES SO THEY SOLD US THE CAR. WHEN TEST DRIVING WE HEARD A CLUNK EVERY TIME YOU WOULD EXCEL. THE SALESMAN SAID IT WAS STUFF IN THE TRUNK. COME TO FIND OUT THERE ARE NO MOTOR MOUNTS HOLDING THE MOTOR AND THE MOTOR GOES UP IN THE AIR WHEN YOU GIVE THE CAR GAS, THE MOTOR HIT THE EXHAUST AND BROKE IT. THERE IS NO WAY THIS CAR PASSED INSPECTION WITH A MOTOR HANGING THERE, YOU CAN'T SEE THROUGH THE BACK WINDOW BECAUSE THE TINT IS SO BAD. A DEALERSHIP SHOULD NOT OF SOLD A VEHICLE WITH A MOTOR LIKE THIS, IT'S A BIT DANGEROUS TO PUT A YOUNG GIRL IN. IT HAS TAKEN ME TWO WEEKS FOR SOMEONE TO CALL ME BACK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 VW PASSAT SEDAN. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, WHEN HE HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND SEEN FLAMES COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONTACT STATED IMMEDIATLEY STOPPED THE VEHICEL AND ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE HOOD BUT WAS UNABLE DUE TO THE FLAMES. THE CONTACT STATED HE BURNT HIS HANDS. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF A FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT WAS FILED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOES NOT WANT TO DOWNSHIFT. PER THE MANUFACTURER INSTRUCTIONS/OWNER MANUAL WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS NEW, THE OIL CHANGE FOR THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS NOT RECOMMENDED IN CONTRARY. THAT CHANGE IN FEW YEARS IN VW BOOKS BUT THE CONSUMERS WHERE NEVER INFORMED ABOUT IT. THE ISSUE STARTED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 74000 MILES BUT IT WAS PAST THE NUMBER OF YEARS FOR THE POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY (PROBABLY 8 OR MORE). THE ISSUE HAPPENS WHEN A BRISK ACCELERATION OR GOING UPHILL AND MAINTAINING SPEED IS REQUIRED. WHEN ACCELERATING THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD DOWN SHIFT TWO GEARS FROM SIXTH TO FOURTH FOR EXAMPLE, THE TRANSMISSION BOGS DOWN AND THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND LOSSES SPEED. I'VE TRIED TO FIX THE ISSUE BY CHANGING THE TRANSMISSION OIL AT THE DEALER AND THAT WAS WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THEY REVERS COURSE ON CHANGING FLUID FOR THE AUTOMATIC, HOWEVER THAT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE AND VW DID NOT WANT TO FIX IT OR TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE MESSAGE "STEERING LOCK MODULE FAILURE" HAD DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE RANDOM STALLING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF AND ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE STARTED. DURING THE FAILURES THE MESSAGE "STEERING LOCK MODULE FAILURE" HAD DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED THE LOCAL DEALER SERRA OF TRAVERSE CITY(1747 S GARFIELD TRAVERSE CITY MI.) WHO DIAGNOSE STEERING LOCK MODULE FAULTY. THE MODULE WAS REPLACED BUT THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE CONTACT INSPECTED UNDER AND AROUND THE VEHICLE, HE LIFTED UP THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FLANGE ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
BOTH RECALLS WERE NOT CORRECTED WHEN THIS VEHICLE WAS SITTING AT THE EPIC MOTORSPORTS DEALERSHIP LOCATED IN ROSEMONT ILLINOIS
RECALL ID 280936 I HAVE CONTACTED VW ABOUT THE RECALL, I FILED A REIMBURSEMENT CLAIM, BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO APPROVED IT BECAUSE I FIXED MY CAR ON MY OWN, I TOOK MY CAR TO A MECHANIC WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED, THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, THEN I TOOK TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FOUND, SO I TOOK TO VOLKSWAGEN WHERE THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. AFTER THAT I CONTACTED MY BROTHER'S MECHANIC SO CHECKED IT AND HE FOUND THE PROBLEM. HE WORKS ON HIS OWN SO BOUGHT THE PARTS AND PAID HIM CASH. I HAVE NOT PROOFS ABOUT THE PAYMENTS BECAUSE I PAID THE PARTS CASH. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS CASE. ATTACHED IS A LETTER FROM THE VW WITH THE CASE # . I ALREADY TOLD VW THAT I CANNOT PROVIDE PROOFS.
MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON AND THE AIRBAG IS MAKES NOISE THAT IS IRRITATING.
TAKATA RECALL: I BROUGHT MY 2007 PASSAT TO KUHN VW IN TAMPA, FL. AT FIRST THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE RECALL, BECAUSE VW WAS COMING OUT WITH ANOTHER ONE IN A FEW MONTHS AND THEY WOULDNT RECEIVE PAYMENT FOR THE FIRST ONE. I CAME BACK 2 MONTHS LATER IN JULY 2018 AND HAD THE RECALL COMPLETED. I DECIDED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHEN I RETURNED FROM WORK IN OCT 2018 AND THE HORN AND STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS NO LONGER WORK, THE VERY NEXT DAY, I GET A AIRBAG FAULT ON THE DASH. I'M NOT SURE, SINCE KUHN NEVER SAID, IF THE TWO WERE RELATED. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $129 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC, WHICH I REFUSED AND COMPLAINED, THEN THEY DID IT FOR FREE AND STATED THAT ITS THE CLOCK-SPRING? I FIND IT IRONIC THAT THE CLOCK SPRING WOULD GO OUT AFTER INSTALLING THIS RECALL. READING SOME OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS WHICH SOME HAVE STATED THE SAME PROBLEM. KUHN OFFERED TO REPLACE THE CLOCK SPRING FOR $400+, WHICH I CANT AFFORD.
WE HAVE BEEN WAITING ON A LIST TO GET THE AIRBAG REPLACED. MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION WITH AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, AND CAR IS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS AND LUCKY NO ONE WAS HURT. THE CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DRIVEN UNTIL IT WAS FIXED BUT THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE, I THINK VW SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST OFFERED A RENTAL TILL IT WAS FIXED. NOW I HAVE A TOTALED CAR BECAUSE OF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. THE ROADS WERE WET AND PERSON IN FRONT OF HIM GOT CUTOFF AND SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES AND MY CAR REAR ENDED THAT CAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THELEN AUDI VOLKSWAGEN MAZDA (1112 NORTH EUCLID AVENUE, BAY CITY, MICHIGAN 48706, (989) 684-2980) AND SUBURBAN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF TROY (1790 MAPLELAWN DRIVE, TROY, MICHIGAN 48084, (248) 585-8800) WERE MADE AWARE OF THE RECALL AND STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY IN 2017 AND BECAME MORE PREVALENT OVER THE COURSE OF ONE YEAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 135,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
THERE IS AN ELECTRIC STEERING COLUMN DEFECT WHICH MAKES THE CAR STOP ALL OF A SUDDEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DRIVE. AFTER THAT, THE CAR WOULD NOT START EVEN AFTER TRYING FOR AT LEAST A MINUTE. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS THE CAR JUST STOPS WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING.

TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT INTO GEARS SMOOTHLY OR SOMETIMES NOT AT ALL. CAR HAS TROUBLE SHIFTING INTO GEAR GOING INTO REVERSE, WHILE DRIVING NORMALLY GOING 40 MILES AN HOUR IN TRAFFIC, AFTER A STOP AT A STOP LIGHT OR AFTER PUTTING ON BREAKS TO SLOW DOWN BEHIND CAR THAT HAS PUT ON BREAKS. WHILE PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR NOTHING HAPPENS, CAR JUST REVS AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL AND WILL NOT MOVE, THEN WILL FINALLY JERK/SHIFT USUALLY HARD INTO GEAR.
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM A USED CAR DEALER ON 7/26. I TEST DROVE IT AND EVERYTHING WAS RUNNING SMOOTHLY. THE VEHICLE HAD 124K MILES. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN LAS VEGAS, NV WITH THE INTENT ON TAKING IT TO CALIFORNIA FOR MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER TO HAVE IN COLLEGE. ON 7,30, I WAS DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AST 20, LIKE IT WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL. THIS OCCURED IN THE EVENING SO I COULD NOT CALL ANYONE. I COASTED OFF THE ROAD. TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, THEN RESTARTED AND IT WORKED FINE. I LOOKED ON THIS WEBSITE AND SAW THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. I CALLED A DEALERSHIP WHO COULDN'T DO IT UNTIL LATE AUGUST. FINDLAY VOLKSWAGEN SCHEDULED ME FOR 8/6. I WAS LEAVING TOWN SO I LEFT THE VEHICLE WITH FAMILY. I PICKED THE VEHICLE UP ON 8/17 AND HEADED TO CALIFORNIA. THE SAME THING OCCURED TWICE WHILE ON THE ROAD. WE CALLED A LOCAL VW DEALER, THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $144 JUST TO LOOK AT IT. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO TESTED THE VEHICLE AND SAID IT THE ACTUAL FUEL PUMP. I CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN CORPORATE, WHO WERE VERY RESPONSIVE BUT CAN NOT HELP. HERE I AM, WITH A VEHICLE THAT COULD STALL ON THE ROAD, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT THAT CAN HARM OR KILL OTHERS. VOLKSWAGEN KNOWS ITS THE FAULTY MODULE THAT CAN CAUSE THE PUMP TO FAIL, BUT LEAVES CUSTOMERS HIGH AND DRY TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE PUMP. MY DAUGHTER SAVED HER OWN MONEY TO BUY A RELIABLE VEHICLE AND NOW WE HAVE TO FORK OVER MORE MONEY. NO ENGINE LIGHTS ARE ON. IT'S DISAPPOINTING AND SAD.
ON 2 JULY 2018 I RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE FUEL PUMP ECM RECALL. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND HAD THE RECALL WORK PERFORMED - REPLACEMENT OF THE ECM, RELOCATION OF THE ECM FROM TOP OF PUMP TO REAR RIGHT WHEEL WELL. ON 7 JULY 2018, I FOLDED THE REAR SEAT DOWN TO EXPAND THE CARGO AREA OF THE VEHICLE. ON 15 JULY 2018, I RETURNED THE REAR SEAT TO SEATING POSITION. LATER THAT DAY, THE FUEL PUMP FAILED WHILE DRIVING. TOOK TO NEAREST DEALER WHO CHARGED $140 DIAG FEE TO TELL ME THE FUEL PUMP WAS BAD - WELL, DUH! THE ISSUE CORRELATES TO THE ECM BEING RECENTLY TRADED OUT. THE FUEL PUMP ITSELF WAS REPLACED 3 MONTHS EARLIER. THEY DIDN'T NOTICE THE COINCIDENCE. VWUSA MERELY PLAYED A GAME OF OPERATOR BETWEEN ME AND THE DEALER AND WAS TOTALLY IMPOTENT AND UNWILLING TO INTERVENE. IT WAS THEIR RECALL WORK THAT KILLED MY FUEL PUMP AND NOW I NEED TO PAY FOR ANOTHER PUMP? NEVER MIND INVALID DIAGNOSTICS AND FEES, AND TIME LOST.

THE MESSAGE "ENGINE SHUTTING OFF" POPULATED IN THE MESSAGE CENTER. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN HESITATING FOR APPROXIMATELY A MONTH WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER (HALLMARK VOLKSWAGEN, 2431 GALLATIN PIKE N, MADISON TENNESSEE) WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V509000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,000. *TT
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON .. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND KEEP GETTING A ROUND ABOUT MY AIR BAGS AND THE SERVICE THEY DID ON MY CAR .. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR 3 DAYS AND THE MORNING I PICKED IT UP ABOUT AN HOUR LATER HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK IN AGAIN BECAUSE THE DIDN'T DO THE RECALLS RIGHT .. NOW MY ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON .. I'VE CALLED AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO LISTEN TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY .. THEY ARE TELLING ME MORE THINGS COULD BE WRONG AND IT WILL COST A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX IT .. I RECEIVED A NOTICE ABOUT A RECALL OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE I TOOK IT INTO VOLKSWAGEN THEY TOLD ME THEY REPLACED IT BUT YET MY BUT THAT MYFUEL PUMP WENT OUT IT LEAKING GAS AND THEY SEND ME ON MY WAY THEY TOLD ME IT WAS GONNA COST ME $700 . TAKATA RECALL, ON JUNE 18TH 2018 I TOOK MY CAR IN AT VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP ON FIGUEROA STREET IN LOS ANGELES REGARDING THE 2 RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE AND I CALLED THE VOLKSWAGEN MANUFACTURER THE DAY BEFORE THEY TOLD ME THE ONLY THING THAT COULD BE FIXED WAS THE TAKATA AIRBAGS RECALL BUT THE OTHER RECALL WAS STILL PENDING SO THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO MY CAR AND I HAVE AN INVOICE SHOWING THEN THING WAS DONE THAT EVEN TAKATA AIRBAGS FOR FIX I COMPLAIN TO THE VOLKSWAGEN MANUFACTURER AND THEY SAID THAT THE AIRBAGS WERE FIXED HE SENT ME A EMAIL COPY OF THE INVOICE AND IT'S A DIFFERENT INVOICE THAN THE ONE I HAVE MIND YOU THAT THE MILES THAT ARE ON THE INVOICE THAT THEY SEND ME ARE NOT THE MILES ON MY VEHICLE AT ALL TO THIS DAY I'M STILL HAVING A HARD TIME I'M GETTING EVERYTHING FIXED IN MY CAR THE TWO RECALLS THEY KEEP ON PRESSURING ME TO GO AHEAD AND AND PAY OUT OF MY POCKET FOR EVERYTHING TO BE DONE MY CAR IS SITTING THERE PARKED I STILL MAKE PAYMENTS ON IT MY TAGS ARE UP NEXT MONTH I NEED A SMOG CHECK AND I CANNOT GET A SMALL CHECK CUZ IT WON'T PASS CUZ THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON I'VE BEEN BACK AND FORTH WITH THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP AND STILL NOTHING THEY SAID THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO REGARDING A PENDING RECALL

THE CONTACT CALLED MOMENTUM VOLKSWAGEN OF CLEAR LAKE ((844) 894-5461, 15100 GULF FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77034), BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.

I SMELLED FUEL WHILE I WAS CHANGING TIRES AND FOUND THE FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT IS CRACKED AND LEAKING FUEL
THE WELD BEADS ON THE DOWN PIPE FLANGE ADJACENT TO THE TURBO CHARGER FAILED AND RESULTED IN A HUGE EXHAUST LEAK. THE HEAT (COMING OUT FROM THE OPENING) GOT TRAPPED IN THE ENGINE BAY AND MELTED THE VACUUM HOSE CONNECTED WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER. AS A RESULT, POWER DECREASED BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, BREAKING POWER WAS LOST AS WELL. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. LUCKILY, I WAS NOT DRIVING FAST AND JUST EXITED THE HIGHWAY. VERY DANGEROUS AND THE DEFECT ON THIS MODEL IS ACTUALLY NOT UNCOMMON. LOW QUALITY FACTORY WELDS ON THE COMPONENTS SHOULD BE RE-WELDED AND THE CHEAP HARD PLASTIC HOSES SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH BETTER QUALITY AND MORE RELIABLE HOSES.

THE DEALER (GOSSETT VOLKSWAGEN, 7420 WINCHESTER ROAD, MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE 38125) CONFIRMED THAT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR; HOWEVER, DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS NEEDED IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
FUEL PUMP RECALL IS STILL PENDING - BEEN ALMOST A YEAR...! NO CRASH OR ANYTHING HAPPENED - JUST CHECKING WHY IT TAKES SO LONG.
MY CAR WAS DRIVING FINE UNTIL FEB 2018 AFTER I GET IT BACK FROM GETTING THE SUSPENSION REDONE. AFTER DRIVING IT 20 MILES MY CAR STOPS RUNNING AS I AM DRIVING THROUGH A MAJOR ROAD LEAVING THE MILITARY BASE. I GET IT TOWED TO THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATE THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED (AFTER 2 MONTHS OF FIXING MY REGULAR FUEL PUMP) CAUSING THE ENGINE TO LOOSE COMPRESSION AND NOW THEY SAID I NEED TO POUR IN A NEW ENGINE AND NEW HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND A TURBO THAT WAS SCRAPING METAL SHAVINGS INTO MY ENGINE AS WELL.
THE DRIVERS SIDE VISOR IS SECURED ABOVE THE WINDSHIELD WITH A PLASTIC PART. THIS PART HAS BROKEN FOR THE THIRD TIME IN THIS VEHICLE. THERE ARE ALSO ELECTRICAL CORDS RUNNING INTO THE VISOR FOR REMOTE CONTROLS. WHEN THE PLASTIC PART SECURING THE VISOR BREAKS, THE VISOR DROPS DOWN OBSCURING THE DRIVER'S VISIBILITY AND IS LEFT DANGLING BY THE WIRES. THE VISOR REMAINS A PROBLEM FOR THE DRIVER UNTIL A REPAIR IS MADE AND THE NEW VISOR COSTS ABOUT $600 INSTALLED BECAUSE OF THE ELECTRICAL WIRING. I HAVE HAD 2 NEW VISORS PREVIOUSLY PUT IN THIS CAR. CONSIDERING THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE IT HAS LOW MILEAGE AND IS NOT DRIVEN VERY OFTEN. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS. I AM NOT COMPUTER SAVVY AND CANNOT SCAN THE REPAIR DOCUMENTS.
ENGINE FAILURE AT 170,000 DUE TO TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILURE. ENGINE DIED AT 170,000 MILES DUE TO THE FAILURE OF A PART THAT HAS FAILED. IF WE HAD KNOWN THAT THIS IS A ISSUE WE WOULD HAVE REPLACED THE INEXPENSIVE PART AT THE TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT INTERVAL FOR A NOMINAL AMOUNT. ENGINE FAILURE WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET. NOW WE HAVE A CAR WORTH NOTHING.

I HAVE BEEN ON HWY MY CAR STALLS OUT CAUSE DRIVING BACK AN FOURTH TO DUKE HOSPITAL IM ON HWY ALOT, I AM STILL PAYING ON THIS VEHICLE W/ ( $7000.00) OWED ON IT IM UNCOMFORTABLE PUTTING MY CHILDREN AN MYSELF IN MY CAR I HAVE CONTACTED VW SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THIS WITH SAME RESPONSE NO INFO NO REPLACEMENT PART NO NOTHING....... THE SMELL OF GASOLINE INSIDE THE CAR IS UNBEARABLE, I SAW LEAKS FROM THE BOTTOM, RUNNING DOWN THE GAS TANK, SO I REMOVED THE BACK SEAT, AND FOUND THAT THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP WAS CRACKED IN MANY PARTS, AND FUEL COMES OUT, NON STOP, THROUGH THOSE CRACKS. THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN WITH THE FUEL PUMPS. IT IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE, SPECIALLY WHEN THE ELECTRICAL CONNEXION ARE RIGHT THERE. A LITTLE SPARK CAN BE CATASTROPHIC. A FEW YEARS AGO, VOLVO HAD A RECALL ON THIS EXACT ISSUE. I THINK VW SHOULD DO IT ALSO. GOD KNOWS HOW MANY LIVES ARE IN DANGER RIGHT NOW. MOSTLY CHILDREN THAT RIDE IN THE BACK SEATS. I AM TRYING TO COVER THE CRACKS WITH A PASTE, BUT IT SEEMS IT IS NOT WORKING. THE GASOLINE KEEPS COMING OUT EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED AND OFF FOR A LONG TIME, I DISCONNECTED THE PUMP, AND IT DOES NOT STOP. I DID NOT TAKE PICTURES BEFORE I PUT THE PASTE, BUT EVEN WITH THE PASTE, THE GAS IS COMING OUT THROUGH IT.
MY PASSENGER WIPER IS NO LONGER WORKING. AND THE SCREW HAD STRIPPED OFF. I LIVE IN FLORIDA WHERE IT RAINS ALL THE TIME AND IS A SAFETY CONCERN ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR.
TAKATA RECALL AIR BAG O, RECALL LIST
PLASTIC HEADLIGHT COVERS ARE KNOWN TO DETERIORATE DUE TO SUNLIGHT. I AM TOLD I HAVE LOST 30% OF MY HEADLIGHTS' CAPACITY TO ILLUMINATE THE ROAD. VW WANTS MORE THAN $900 TO REPLACE THEM, CLAIMING THEY ARE PERMANENTLY ATTACHED TO THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES.
SON WAS DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY AND FRONT END OF VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE THEN STALLED AND WOULD NOT START. TOWED TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. REPLACED HPFP ($1500). NOW TOLD THE TIMING CHAIN JUMPED AND HAS TO BE REPLACED WITH TIMING SPROCKET, TIMING TENSIONER, AND INTAKE CAME SHAFT. NOT SURE IF THERE IS DAMAGE ON ENGINE BOTTOM AS WELL. THE COST IS OVER $2000. VW DOES NOTHING BUT DOES ACKNOWLEDGE FAULTY PARTS. MY SN COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS CAR HAS 78,000 MILES. IT SHOULD NOT STALL AT 65 MPH.
TAKATA RECALL - RECEIVED NOTIFICATION MANY MONTHS AGO, CONTACTED MY DEALER. STILL NO REMEDY AVAILABLE FOR THIS ISSUE. I DON'T WANT TO WAIT UNTIL AN ACCIDENT OCCURS AND HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. I WOULD LIKE FOR IT TO BE FIXED. I DO NOT HAVE A SECOND CAR TO RELY ON OR DRIVE IN ITS PLACE.
FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE WE CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN ABOUT THE FAILURE OF THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE AND WERE TOLD THAT THIS ONE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE NHTSA RECALL. THE PROBLEM: REPLACING THE BATTERY IN SEPTEMBER 2017 AND HAVING A STARTING PROBLEM IN MID-OCTOBER. TOOK THE CAR TO A VOLKSWAGEN DEALER... THEY RAN TEST TO FIND OUT THE PROBLEM, WELL THE BATTERY FAILED THE TEST SO THEY HAD TO REPLACE BUT AT THE SAME TIME THEY TOLD US THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE WAS FAILING. THEY STATED IT WAS HEATING UP AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. WHEN I DID SOME BACKGROUND RESEARCH ON A FUEL PUMP MODULE I FOUND RECALL NOTICES WHICH INCLUDED 2006-2010 PASSAT WAGONS WHICH IS OUR CAR. THE RECALL STATES," THE PUMP CONDITION ALSO COULD CAUSE THE FUEL PUMP TO RUN CONTINUOUSLY, DRAINING THE BATTERY AND MAKING THE CAR UNABLE TO START". THIS WAS HAPPENING ON THE MONTH OLD BATTERY WE JUST HAD REPLACED. SO I WANT TO FIND OUT IF THIS CAR CAN BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE IT IS A PROBLEM THAT IS IN KEEPING WITH THE RECALL!
WE ASKED JACK DANIELS TO FIX THE FUEL PUMP AS WE RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE RECALL. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO IT. OUR CAR NOW BUCKS AT HIGH SPEEDS, PARTICULARLY WHEN DRIVING UPHILL. WHAT SHOULD WE DO? WE DO NOT THINK THE CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE.
