THE ENGINE IS IDLING VERY ROUGHLY AT A FULL STOP WHETHER ITS A TRAFFIC LIGHT, OR JUST STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THE RPMS WILL SPIKE TO 750-800 RPMS AND DROP BELOW 5-400 RPMS RANDOMLY CAUSING THE ENTIRE CAR TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, AND STALL AT TIMES.THE INCIDENT SEEMS COMMON WITH MY MODEL CAR THOUGH ONLINE FORUMS AND FRIENDS THAT HAVE THE SAME CAR AND THE 328 WITH N54 ENGINE. MY MAIN ISSUE IS THAT THERE IS NO MALFUNCTION CODE ASSOCIATED WITH IT, AND IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY; SOMETIMES WHEN THE CAR IS COLD, SOMETIMES AT RUNNING TEMP, SOMETIME WITH AC ON, SOMETIMES WITH AC OFF. THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A SPECIFIC VARIABLE CAUSING THE ISSUE, BUT IT IS A MAJOR ISSUE NON THE LESS, THEREFORE BMW DEALERSHIP CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE OUT A FIX FOR MY PROBLEM AND CONTINUOUSLY TURN ME AWAY EVEN THOUGH I HAVE EXTENDED BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. THIS ISSUE HAS BECOME A SAFETY CONCERN OF MINE AND I DON'T WANT IT TO GET WORSE AND CAUSING AN SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER OR AN ACCIDENT. I'VE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2007-2011 3-SERIES FOR LOSS OF ELECTRICAL POWER/STALLING, BUT I'M NOT SURE IF ITS THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCE FOR MY CAR OR DIFFERENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 328XI. WHILE WAITING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND IDLED ROUGHLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT WHEN MAKING SHARP LEFT TURNS, A THUMPING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT ALL FOUR MOTOR MOUNT BOLTS WERE FRACTURED OUT OF THE BLOCK AND THAT THE ENGINE SHIFTED SIGNIFICANTLY, WHICH WAS POTENTIALLY CAUSED BY A POTHOLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
MY CAR IS IN PERFECT CONDITION, MINT...I AM A CERTIFIED FRAUD EXAMINER. I WAS ON A ROAD TRIP FROM BELLEVUE, WASHINGTON TO RICHMOND, BC. WHILE DRIVING IN RICHMOND, BC NEAR THE AUTO WEST BMW DEALERSHIP, MY DRIVER'S SEAT BEGAN GOING FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS AS I DROVE. SOMETIMES THE AUTOMATIC BUTTON WOULD WORK AND THE SEAT WOULD STOP. A MINUTE OR TWO GOES BY AND THE DRIVER'S SEAT GOES CRAZY AND PINS ME AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL AND PINS MY KNEES AGAINST THE DASHBOARD. I AM BARELY ABLE TO STEER AND LIFT MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS AND APPLY THE BRAKES. DUE TO MY TRAINING, I DID NOT PANIC...I PULLED OVER INTO A PARKING LOT, AND DID ALL I CAN TO SQUEEZE MYSELF OUT OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE SEAT BUTTON WAS NON RESPONSIVE, SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME. I WAS TWO BLOCKS FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I CALLED BMW NORTH AMERICA AND THEY REGISTERED MY COMPLAINT. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE SEAT BACK, AND DROVE IT TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP IN RICHMOND, AS I PULLED INTO THEIR PARKING LOT, AND SEAT REPEATED ITSELF AGAIN. WAY TO CRAZY...THEY DISABLE THE MOTOR CONTROL UNIT FOR THE SEAT. I AM GETTING IT SERVICED NEXT WEEK AT THE BELLEVUE WASHINGTON BMW DEALERSHIP. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WILL COVER IT...700 BUCKS... *TR
CAR HAD FUEL PUMP INITIALLY REPLACED WHEN CAR STILL UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. BMW NA WILL TRY TO AVOID THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH. NOTE INJECTORS FOR THE N54 ENGINE ARE ALSO ON A WORLD WIDE RECALL. NOW THE INJECTION PUMP FROM A RECALL IS BEING CALLED EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS OR 120,000. MILES WELL IT HAPPENED, GOT HIT BY A CAR FROM REAR WHEN MY 335I STALLED!!!!!! I WAS EXPERIENCING EXTENDED STARTS, FOLLOWED BY ENGINE STALLING REPEATEDLY FOR 3 ATTEMPTS THEN IT WILL CLEAR OUT. NOW WHEN LIGHT LOAD IS APPLIED THE ENGINE LIGHT WITH THE ENGINE HALF GRADED OUT APPEARS (REDUCED POWER), ENGINE RUNNING VIOLENTLY ROUGH CODES COMES UP ARE P142E & P3090. THEY WANTED ME TO REPLACE MY INJECTORS FIRST BECAUSE THEY SAID I HAVE "OLD INJECTORS" NOTE WHEN HPFP WAS REPLACED THEY REPLACED THE RECALLED INJECTORS BUT THEY CHANGED ONLY 4 ! EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW IT'S A 6 CYLINDER I WANTED TO TELL BMW THAT WHEN THEY BUILT THE ENGINE THEY INSTALLED ALL 6 NEW INJECTORS. THEIR REPLY WAS IT ONLY NEEDED 4 AT THAT TIME, WELL WHAT A OUT NOW YOUR TELLING ME I NEED TO REPLACE ALL 6 BECAUSE THEIR OLD INJECTORS SO THE REPLACEMENT DONE WAS TO MASK THE PROBLEM!!! TO THIS DATE THEY HAVE ISSUES WITH THE CURRENT ENGINE PLATE FORM N54 - N55 EPIC FAILURE. SOME SAY ITS ALSO REPLACEMENT OF JUST A FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. I'M CHANGING MINE ON MONDAY BOUGHT IT ONLINE FROM A BMW DEALER INSTALLATION IS 2-2.5 HOURS BASIC TOOLS NEEDED AND CARE. *TR
I WAS INFORMED THE VALVE COVER GASKET AND OIL FILTER HOUSING GASKET WERE LEAKING, WHICH CAUSED A PROBLEM WITH THE ECCENTRIC SHAFT SENSOR. I PAID FOR A NEW VALVETRONIC MOTOR, ECCENTRIC SHAFT SENSOR, VALVE COVER AND GASKETS, AND OIL FILTER HOUSING GASKET, AND THE ASSOCIATED REPAIR. FAST FORWARD 3 MONTHS, I GO IN FOR A OIL CHANGE AND AM TOLD THAT AGAIN I HAVE A SIGNIFICANT LEAK FROM THE VALVE COVER GASKET AND OIL FILTER HOUSING GASKET. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK. I TRIED TO UNLOCK THE DOOR WITH THE FOB, CENTRAL BUTTON ON THE DASH, AND THE METAL KEY STORED INSIDE THE FOB AND NOTHING WILL UNLOCK THE DOOR. THE ONLY WAY TO GET INTO THE CAR IS TO OPEN THE PASSENGER DOOR AND REACH OVER TO THE DRIVER SIDE AND PULL THE HANDLE. WITH A CHILD IN THE CAR IN A SAFETY SEAT, MY CONCERN IS THAT ALL OF THE DOORS WILL SUBSEQUENTLY FAIL AND I WILL BE UNABLE TO GET MYSELF AND MY CHILD OUT OF THE CAR. I'VE SEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS VERY SAME ISSUE FOR THIS YEAR MODEL VEHICLE AND TWO YEARS OLDER - EITHER DRIVER'S DOOR ONLY, PASSENGERS DOORS ONLY, OR ALL OF THE DOORS - AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE THEN IS THROUGH THE SUNROOF. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I WAS GOING OVER A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD AT 30 MPH AND MY ENGINE MOUNT FAILED. ALL FOUR ALUMINUM BOLTS SHEARED OFF AND THE ENGINE DROPPED. THIS DROP SNAPPED MY PASSENGER DRIVE SHAFT (HALF AXLE) IN TWO PIECES. *JS I THINK BMW HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE STRENGTH OF THE ENGINE MOUNT HARDWARE. THE ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS SHOULD BE STRONGER. THE FAILURE MODE IS DANGEROUS. *JS
TOOK CAR TO DEALER TO CHECK WHY I AM LOSING OIL. AS I SUSPECTED, SLIGHT OIL LEAK IS HITTING A HOT ENGINE PART, EVAPORATING, AND NOT SHOWING ON THE GROUND. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR GETTING ON THE FREEWAY AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CAME ON STATING " ENGINE TEMPERATURE, ENGINE TEMPERATURE IS HIGH. DRIVE MODERATELY TO COOL THE ENGINE. IF TEMPERATURE INCREASES AGAIN. HAVE THE SYSTEM CHECKED BY YOUR BMW DEALER SHIP." I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS CAR ON 6/9/2014 ON THE 30TH DAY THE CAR HAD THIS ISSUE WITH ME. THE CAR TURNED OFF 4 TIMES WITH ME AS I TRIED TO DRIVE BACK HOME. MY 2008 BMW 335I SERIES WAS PURCHASED WITH ONLY 60,000 MILES ON IT. I NEED TO KNOW IF THIS IS RECALL SO I CAN TAKE IT IN ..BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH AND SEEN THAT ALOT OF BMW CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES BUT YEARS AGO.... I NEED HELP CAUSE WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY LOOK UP THE VIN # AND SAY THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS CAR.... HELP I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO?????? THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM ON A TON OF BMW VEHICLES THAT ARE EQUIPPED WITH BMW'S ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHT TECHNOLOGY. NOT ONLY IS IT A HUGE PROBLEM ON THE CARS, BUT IS A DANGER TO OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD AND THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS OF SAID BMW. THE ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHTS WILL MOVE AS THE CAR MOVES (LEFT/RIGHT AND UP/DOWN). THESE HEADLIGHTS HAVE A MECHANISM IN THEM THAT CONTROL THE MOVEMENT AND IT BREAKS QUITE OFTEN ESPECIALLY ON BUMPY ROADS. BMW DEALERSHIPS WILL SAY "YOU HIT A POT HOLE AND THE LIGHT MECHANISM BROKE. YOU WILL NEED A WHOLE NEW ASSEMBLY AND IT COST $1800". THIS WOULD BE OK IF IT DIDN'T ENDANGER OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROAD AND THE ACTUAL DRIVER AND PASSENGERS OF SAID CAR. THE HEADLIGHTS WILL JAM TO EITHER THE STRAIGHT UP POSITION. THIS IS JAMMED SO FAR UP THAT IT LIGHTS THE ROOF IN MY GARAGE AND I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING ON THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME. THEY ALSO JAM ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT, ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT, AND STRAIGHT DOWN DEPENDING ON WHEN THE MECHANISM FAILS. THIS MEANS THAT DRIVERS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE ROAD CAN BE COMPLETELY BLINDED AND COULD CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT BY LOOKING AWAY FROM THE ROAD. THIS ALSO CAUSES A HUGE ISSUE FOR THE DRIVER OF THE CAR AS YOU CAN'T SEE THE ROAD IN FRONT OF YOU. MY PREVIOUS CAR (INFINITI G35 COUPE) HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE EXCEPT NISSAN HAD THE PROJECTS AIMED TO HIGH FROM THE FACTORY. THIS WAS A HUGE RECALL AND FORCED NISSAN TO REISSUE FUNCTIONING HEADLIGHTS. BMW WILL NOT BUDGE ON THE FACT THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. FROM RESEARCH ONLINE I AM 1 OF THOUSANDS THAT HAVE THIS ISSUE AND BMW HAS NOT RECOGNIZED IT. I AM NOT WILLING TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON A ISSUE THAT IS CLEARLY A ENGINEERING QA ISSUE AND IS ALSO RISKING MY LIFE WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT AND PUTTING ON COMING MOTORIST IN DANGER AS WELL. ANY HELP WITH THIS ISSUE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR
MY BRAKES FAILED. I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT ON A SIDE STREET. WITH 3 OTHER CARS IN FRONT OF ME, THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I PROCEEDED TO STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL. AS I PICKED UP SPEED, THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME STARTED TO BRAKE AS THERE WERE PEDESTRIANS AND OTHER TRAFFIC. I WENT TO APPLY MY BRAKES AND THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN OR STOP. I VERED TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID REAR-ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND STARTED TO PUMP MY BRAKE PEDAL. IT STILL WAS NOT SLOWING THE CAR. I NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT HARD AS I TRIED TO PRESS IT DOWN. I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AS I MOVED OFF THE ROAD AND ONTO THE SHOULDER. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD THE VACUUM PUMP FAILED. THEY DID CHECK THE BRAKE LINE, BRAKE FLUIDS AND NOTED THERE WERE NO LEAKS. THE VACUUM PUMP JUST FAILED WITH NO WARNING. NO INDICATOR OR WARNING LIGHT CAME ON TO WARN ME OF ANY EMERGENCY OR SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS IN A 2008 BMW 328I WITH ONLY 54000 MILES. *JS
THESE VEHICLES SEEM TO HAVE AN EXTREMELY HIGH FAILURE RATE OF THE ELECTRIC COOLANT PUMP. WHEN THE COOLANT PUMP FAILS, IT CREATES A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION AS THERE IS NO TEMPERATURE GAUGE FOR THE COOLANT, YOU JUST GET A YELLOW WARNING LIGHT THAT INDICATES THE CAR IS OVERHEATING AND A WARNING TO DRIVE MODERATELY. UNFORTUNATELY THE SOFTWARE WAITS UNTIL THE CAR IS SO HOT TO GIVE YOU A WARNING THAT LITERALLY SECONDS LATER THE WARNING WILL TURN RED AND TELL YOU TO PULL OVER AT WHICH TIME IT WILL REDUCE ALL ENGINE POWER. WHEN THIS OCCURRED I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IN THE FAST LANE DOING 70-75 MPH, THE WARNING POPPED UP AND BY THE TIME I READ IT ON THE SCREEN, IT HAD TURNED RED AND BASICALLY FELT LIKE I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL IN TRAFFIC. I HAD TO CROSS 3 LANES OF HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER AT ALL, CAR WAS BASICALLY COASTING AND COULD NOT EVEN MAINTAIN SPEED ENOUGH TO PULL OVER, QUITE DANGEROUS WITH CARS SWERVING AND HONKING. IT IS RIDICULOUS HOW EARLY THE PUMP FAILED BUT EVEN WORSE HOW DANGEROUS THE SITUATION IS THAT IT CREATES WHEN IT HAPPENS.
BLACK MOLD FORMED ON REAR SEATS, DASHBOARD INTERMITTENTLY WORKED (1/2 OF DASHBOARD ACTIVE, 1 FUSE POWERS THE DASH), 6" OF WATER POOLED IN REAR BACK PASSENGER FOOTWELL (LOCATION OF MAIN ELECTRICAL UNIT); WATER WAS DRIPPING ON MY FOOT WHEN RESTING ON PETAL OF MY 42000 MILE, $50,000, 2008 BMW 328XI COUPE. I CONTACTED BMW OF NA WHO ADVISED ME NOT TO USE THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS DANGEROUS. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO WORK WITH BMW OF NA & BMW DEALERSHIP (PLACE OF PURCHASE) A VAPOR BARRIER LEAK WAS FOUND BUT MORE WAS BELIEVED TO BE AT CAUSE. THE DASH NEEDED TO BE REMOVED, FOR $1800. I REFUSED TO PAY; REQUESTED BMW OF NA TO PAY. REQUEST DENIED. THE DEALER SAID BMW OF NA WOULD ONLY PAY VAPOR BARRIER REPAIR COSTS. I ASKED FOR NO REPAIRS; TOWED THE CAR HOME. FINALLY REACHING LINDA VITALE, EXEC. CUSTOMER SERVICES OF BMW NA, NJ, SHE TOLD ME THE DEALER DID DO THE REPAIRS. THIS WAS AGAINST MY EXPRESSED WISHES. I WANTED THE CAR INVESTIGATED ELSEWHERE TOO. IN A LATER CONVERSATION, [XXX] CLAIMED THE REASON FOR THE WATER WAS FROM A LEAK FROM A 3RD PARTY WINDSHIELD INSTILLATION. NOTE: MOLD, WATER, AND ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS EXISTED PREVIOUS TO 3RD PARTY WINDSHIELD INSTALLMENT. [XXX] , PROVEN WRONG, DUE TO DATES, STATED, IN A SUBSEQUENT RECORDED CONVERSATION, PER THE DEALER, THE WATER ENTERED THE CAR BECAUSE THE DOORS WERE DISMANTLED AND INCORRECTLY PUT BACK. NOTE:[XXX] HAS PROOF THAT THE DOORS WERE NEVER REMOVED. [XXX] TOTALED THE CAR DUE TO BLACK MOLD CONTAMINATION, HEALTH RISKS; RISK OF INJURY TO ME AND OTHERS DUE TO MOLD, THE ELECTRICAL COMPROMISED, AND POSSIBLE POWER CUT TO ENGINE WHILE IN MOTION. A PAID LOAN BUT HAVING NO CAR, BMW OF NA WISHED ONLY TO COMPENSATE ME WITH $1000 TOWARDS A NEW BMW. I FOUND MANY FORUMS, ON THE INTERNET, REGARDING 2002-2015 BMW'S W/THE SAME PROBLEMS & OWNERS SUSTAINING SAME LOSS OF PROPERTY WITH NO ETHICAL OR SUSTAINABLE COMPENSATION FROM BMW OF NA. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).' *TR
TAKATA RECALL?- MY CAR IS NOT ON RECALL BUT AIRBAG LIGHT DISPLAYED AT 83,012 MILES. THEY INSTALLED NEW SEAT BELT RECEPTACLE AT A COST OF $362.42. AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN IN 2 MONTHS- TOOK IT BACK. WAS TOLD THEY NEEDED TO CHECK WIRING OR MODULE. COST FOR WIRING $625 COST FOR MODULE $1,315. DID NOT GET IT FIXED. SEEMS TO ME AIRBAG PROBLEMS SHOULD NOT OCCUR IN CARS. WITH ALL THE AIRBAG RECALLS, I WAS HOPING MINE WOULD BE RECALLED BUT NO!
SEAT BELT AND AIR BAG WARNING LIGHTS GO ON WHEN THERE'S NO ONE SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. WAS TOLD THIS IS LIKELY A SEAT SENSOR ISSUE. I HAVE THE SPORT PACKAGE AND HAVE READ THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SEAT SENSOR ISSUE WITH SPORT SEATS. ALSO THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR ALMOST EVERY YEAR MODEL FOR THE BMW 3-SERIES UP TO 2007 FOR SEAT SENSOR RECALL. THE LIGHT IS ON CONSTANTLY NOW WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED ON, WHETHER IT IS DRIVING OR STATIONARY. THE LIGHTS USED TO GO INTERMITTENTLY ON OR OFF BUT NOW THEY ARE STAYING ON. THIS MAKES QUESTIONABLE WHETHER THE SEAT BELTS ARE WORKING OR IF THE AIR BAGS WILL DEPLOY.
MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY STOPPED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGH WAY. HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE AS CARS WERE COMING FROM BEHIND WITH FULL HIGHWAY SPEED. FORTUNATELY THE CAR BEHIND WAS ABLE TO CONTROL HIS CAR AND SAVED ACCIDENT. MY CAR IS NOW TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. AWAITING DIAGNOSTICS. *TR
HIGH BEAMS NO LONGER CAN BE RELIED UPON TO STAY ON. DASH LIGHT SAYS THEY ARE ON, BUT THEY AREN'T. THEY WILL STAY ON FOR ABOUT 30 TO 40 SECONDS THEN GO TO LOW BEAM ONLY. *TR
APRIL 14, 2014 OUR CAR WENT IN FOR SERVICE. MAY 7, 2014 IT WAS RETURNED FOR A 'REDUCED POWER,SERVICE ENGINE SOON'LIGHT. AT THAT TIME, THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED AND COVERED UNDER A RECALL. IN JULY THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. WE REPLACED THE BATTERY. IN LATE AUGUST, THE WARNING LIGHT APPEARED AGAIN. SEPTEMBER 8,2014 THE CAR WENT INTO THE GARAGE. AT THIS TIME WE WERE TOLD IT WAS MOST LIKELY THE TURBO, EST REPAIRS AT $5500.00. AT THIS TIME THE CAR HAD 83985 MILES ON IT(THE TURBO WAS UNDER AN "EXTENDED" WARRANTY UNTIL 82,000). WHILE I APPRECIATE THEIR EFFORT, IT IS NOT ENOUGH. THEY OBVIOUSLY ARE AWARE THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS PART, SINCE THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY SO I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD COVER THE ENTIRE AMOUNT. IT WILL WORSEN TO A CRITICAL LEVEL WHEN THIS FAILURE HAPPENS WITH PASSENGERS WITH LIMITED MOBILITY INSIDE THE CAR OR IN CASE THERE IS A BABY SITTING IN A CHILD SEAT INSTALLED IN THE REAR SEAT. WHEN THE DESCRIBED FAILURE MODE HAPPENS, ALL PASSENGERS WILL NEED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE SUN ROOF (IF AVAILABLE) OR THROUGH THE WINDOWS. IN CASE OF FIRE THIS COULD BE A LETHAL SAFETY HAZARD FOR ALL PASSENGERS. AND IN CASE OF VOLUMINOUS PERSONS SITTING IN SEATS OTHERS THAN THE DRIVER'S SEAT, IT WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT FOR THEM TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. HOW THE FAILURE HAPPENED: AFTER DRIVING FOR APROX. 10 MINUTES AND HAVING PARKED, THE DOORS OF THE CAR DID NOT UNLOCK. THEY DID NOT UNLOCK EITHER USING THE FOB, NEITHER THE DOOR HANDLE OF THE DRIVER'S DOOR NOR THE UNLOCK BUTTON IN THE CENTRAL DASHBOARD. THE ONLY WAY TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE WAS THROUGH THE SUN ROOF OR CLIMBING OUT THE WINDOW. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE DRIVER'S DOOR FINALLY UNLOCK AND COULD BE OPENED. ONCE OUTSIDE THE CAR, I COULD LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DRIVER'S DOOR (BUT NOT ANY OTHER DOOR) MANUALLY WITH THE METAL KEY INSIDE THE FOB. THE OTHER PASSENGER HAD TO EXIT THE CAR THROUGH THE DRIVER'S DOOR. I HAVE BEEN TO A BMW DEALERSHIP AND I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO REPAIR IT. THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE ISSUE SEEMS TO BE A BLOWN FUSE DUE TO OVER CURRENT IN ONE OF THE ACTUATORS OF ONE OF THE DOORS. THE EFFECT IS THAT THE PASSENGERS CANNOT COME OUT OF THE CAR AS THERE IS NOT ANY MANUAL MECHANISM TO UNLOCK. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN # IS 13V-564. COMPONENTS: AIR BAGS FRONTAL SEAT SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT ACCORDING TO THE RESEARCH DONE, BMW DID NOT INCLUDE MY MODEL YEAR IN THE RECALL. THEY ACKNOWLEDGE IT BUT DID NOT FORMALLY ISSUE THE RECALL ON MY MODEL YEAR. NOW THE BMW SERVICE SHOP WANTS APPROXIMATELY $2800 TO FIX THIS ISSUE THAT IS THEIR FAULT. "PASS. RESTRAINT PASSENGER" ERROR MASSAGE, APPEARED THE FIRST TIME, I REPLACED THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER, THE ERROR MASSAGE DISAPPEARED, THEN CAME BACK ON ABOUT 5 MONTHS AFTER. I HAVE A CONVERTIBLE MODEL. *TR
I WAS PRESSING ON MY BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT AND I HEARD A LOUD THUMP FROM UNDER THE HOOD NEAR THE RIGHT SIDE. AS SOON AS I GOT TO THE STOP LIGHT, MY CAR STARTED TO RATTLE AND VIBRATE VIOLENTLY. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND STARTED MY CAR AND THE CAR WASN'T RATTLING ANYMORE. AS SOON AS I PUT IT INTO REVERSE, IT STARTED TO RATTLE AGAIN AND DID THE SAME WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE. THE VIBRATING GOES AWAY AS SOON AS I START DRIVING, AND IS ONLY NOTICED WHEN IDLED WHILE IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. I HAD SOMEONE COME CHECK IT OUT AND WAS TOLD HE NEEDED TO DO FURTHER INSPECTION AT HIS SHOP. HE INSPECTED IT AND TOLD ME SOME BOLTS BROKE FROM THE ENGINE MOUNT AND THE LOUD THUMP WAS FROM MY ENGINE DROPPING ONTO THE AIR CONDITIONING. *TR
CAR SHUTOFF COMPLETELY IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. GOT IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT THE FUEL LINE CAME OFF WHICH IS LOCATED ABOVE THE FUEL TANK. NO WAY ANYBODY CAN GET TO IT WITHOUT TAKING OFF THE FUEL TANK. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED AND ON THE HIGHWAY. THE FUEL LINE COULD HAVE IGNITED OR WORSE, IF THE CAR SHUTDOWN ON THE HIGHWAY, IT COULD HAVE BEEN MY LIFE. *TR
9/11/2013 AT APPROXIMATELY 9:25 AM EST MY 2008 BMW 335I SPONTANEOUSLY CAUGHT FIRE FROM WHAT SEEMS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN THE DASH BOARD AREA. I WAS MAKING MY DAILY COMMUTE TO WORK WHEN THE AC UNIT SHUT OFF AND THEN TURNED BACK ON WITH THICK BLACK SMOKE POURING INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR. NATURALLY I ROLLED THE WINDOWS DOWN TO ALLOW THE SMOKE TO CLEAR SO THAT I COULD PULL OVER OUT OF TRAFFIC. THIS MADE MATTERS WORSE, THE SMOKE THICKENED, THE HORN STARTED HONKING AS IF SOMEONE WAS HOLDING THE HORN DOWN, AS I WAS PULLING THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THE SMOKE BECAME UNBEARABLE, I WAS FORTUNATE TO ESCAPE THE CAR AS THE FIRE RIPPED INTO THE CABIN CONSUMING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WITHIN JUST MINUTES. THE CAR IS NOW TOTALED AND MY INSURANCE IS INVESTIGATING. MY QUERY IS WHAT IF I HAD OTHER PEOPLE IN MY CAR? WHAT IF MY CAR WAS IN MY GARAGE? WHAT IF I HAD YOUNGER CHILDREN IN THE CAR? JUDGING ON HOW QUICKLY THE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT EVEN IN MY VERY ABLE CONDITION REMOVING TWO YOUNG CHILDREN FROM THE BACK SEAT OF THE CAR WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE, THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO! SEEING AS BMW'S TARGETED AUDIENCE IS MIDDLE TO UPPER CLASS FAMILIES I WONDER IF THE PUBLIC KNOWS OF THE RISKS? I KNOW I SURE DIDN'T, HOWEVER AFTER REVIEWING THE BLOGS AND POSTS ONLINE I HAVE SEEN COUNTLESS OTHER SCENARIOS UNFOLD ALMOST IDENTICAL TO MINE AND I KNOW I AM NOT ALONE. I AM CURRENTLY DEALING WITH MY INSURANCE AND I AM SURE THEY WILL BE IN TOUCH WITH BMW AS THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER 100,000 MILES AND JUST AT 5 YEARS OF AGE. *TR
THE CAR WOULD NOT START AS INDICATED ON THE RECALL. THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED FROM THE BAD CABLES. I REPLACED THE CABLES AT BMW UNDER THE RECALL A D WAS CHARGED FOR REPROGRAMMING. TO REPLACE THE CONNECTORS IT WOULD NEED REPROGRAMMED AND I FEEL THE BATTERY SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THEIR RECALL. THERE ARE SEVERAL SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE. THE LIGHTS WORKED AND ALL OTHER FUNCTIONS JUST WOULD NOT START. BMW ADVISED IT NEEDED A NEW BATTERY BUT WOULD NOT INCLUDE ON THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH ITS A KNOWN PROBLEM. IF THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE CABLE THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPROGRAM IT EITHER WAY, NEW BATTERY OR THE EXISTING BATTERY AS THEY WOULD NOT LEAVE IT "HOT" WHILE WORKING ON IT. *TR
COMPLETE FAILURE OF ABS PUMP AND STABILITY CONTROL WITH ONLY 29000 MILES. COST TO REPAIR THIS BASIC SAFETY SYSTEM OVER $2900. *TR
DOOR LOCKS FAILED, WITH DOORS IN THE LOCKED POSITION. NO WAY TO OPEN THE 3 PASSENGER DOORS. DRIVER CAN ESCAPE BY DOUBLE PULLING THE HANDLE, BUT ONLY IF THERE'S A PERSON (WEIGHT SENSOR?) ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT. PASSENGERS CANNOT GET OUT! READING THE ONLINE MESSAGE BOARDS, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH E90 BMWS (AND A SIMILAR ONE WITH THE PREVIOUS GENERATION E46). THERE ARE HUNDREDS (THOUSANDS?) OF POSTS DESCRIBING THIS EXACT PROBLEM. A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
DRIVERS DOOR LOCKED AS NORMAL WHEN CAR REACHED A CERTAIN SPEED BUT MADE A WEIRD NOISE. NOW IT WILL NOT UNLOCK WITH KEYLESS OR UNLOCK BUTTON ON DASH OF CAR. WILL ONLY UNLOCK MANUALLY. DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR??? I HAVE HEARD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS... I HOPE THEY ARE COVERED WITH A RECALL SOON! *JB
WHY DRIVING MY VEHICLE, I RECEIVED A YELLOW WARNING FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY A RED WARNING. WHILE TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THE ISSUE THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER, CAUSING UNSAFE HIGHWAY HANDLING. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING. THE WATER PUMP FAILED RENDERING THE CAR DISABLED. I HAVE DRIVEN QUITE A FEW CARS AND HAVE NEVER SEEN A WATER PUMP DISABLE THE CAR SO QUICKLY AND CREATE A DANGEROUS CONDITION. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH, TALKING TO REPAIR MECHANICS THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO HAPPEN ALL TOO OFTEN IN BMW'S. *JB
HEARD A LOUD BANG FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT, PASSENGER SIDE. SUBSEQUENT LEFT TURNS RESULTED IN A THUD WITH EACH REVOLUTION OF THE TIRE FROM THE SAME AREA. SUSPECTED CV JOINT. TOOK IT INTO SHOP, AND MECHANIC FOUND THAT TWO RIGHT SIDE ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS HAD CORRODED AND SHEARED. BOLTS ARE ALUMINUM AND ENGINE BLOCK IS MAGNESIUM WHICH RESULTED IN DISSIMILAR METAL CORROSION. ENGINE FELL AND CAME TO REST ON FRAME. *TR
I WAS DRIVING VEHICLE ON 295 NEAR HAMILTON NJ AND WHILE ACCELERATING THE CAR LOST POWER. THE CAR WAS NOT RESPONSES AND WHEN I WOULD TRY TO PRESS ACCELERATOR THE CAR AND STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE SPEED RAPIDLY DECREASED AND PUT ME IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS ABLE TO PUT HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND PULL TO SHOULDER. I TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED AND THE CAR, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED OFF AND I IMMEDIATELY DROPPED CAR OFF AT DEALER. *TR
AC UNIT WENT FROM BLOWING COLD TO HOT AIR WITH NO WARNING .. A BURNING SMELL WAS ALSO NOTICED AT THE SAME TIME. MY CAR HAD JUST COME OUT BMW SERVICE FOR AN OIL CHANGE . BURNT CONNECTORS , WIRES AND AC BLOWER REPLACED (AT OWNERS EXPENSE ) SHORTLY AFTER I (OWNER ) RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER REGARDING CABLE WIRE TO BATTERY WERE NOT PROPERLY INSULTED AND BMW WOULD REPLACE THEM AT NO COST TO OWNER.. WAS ADVISED BY BMW SERVICE THIS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BURNED UP CONNECTING WIRES TO THE AC BLOWER.. ONLY HAD MY CAR 1/12YR UNDER WARRANTY WHEN I PURCHASED IT OF COURSE NOT WHEN THIS PROBLEM HAPPEN WHICH WAS COSTLY. *TR
