BMW IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2010 5-SERIES, 6-SERIES, AND MODEL YEAR 2002-2008 7-SERIES VEHICLES. A CHECK VALVE OF THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP MAY LEAK A SMALL AMOUNT OF LUBRICATING OIL. OVER TIME THIS COULD RESULT IN CONTAMINATION OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER.
Remedy Status
BMW WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 24, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-525-7417.
DRIVING FROM WORK AN MY CAR JUST STARTED LOSING POWER I REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AN BATTERY AN THE CAR DID THE SAME THING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 BMW 745LI. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BMW OF RIVERSIDE (3060 ADAMS ST, RIVERSIDE, CA 92504, 1 (951) 373-5000) TO BE REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V328000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). SHORTLY AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LATCHES FAILED TO LOCK AND WERE UNSECURED. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE SAME DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED AFTER SERVICING THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE LATCH REPLACEMENT WAS SEPARATE FROM THE RECALL REPAIR AND THAT BOTH LATCHES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THEY REPLACED BOTH LATCHES; HOWEVER, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LATCH STILL FAILED. THE OTHER THREE DOOR LATCHES WORKED PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,423.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S DOOR SUDDENLY UNLOCKED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCK THE DOOR A SECOND TIME. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BMW OF MOUNTAIN VIEW (150 E EL CAMINO REAL, MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA 94040; 650-200-0149). THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER FOR APPROXIMATELY FOUR MONTHS AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE MATTER HAD NOT BEEN SETTLED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
THE COOLANT SYSTEMS FAILED .AND WITH RESEARCH I WAS ABLE TO DISCOVER A STEADY PROBLEM FOR THESE MODELS.
AT A RED LIGHT THE CAR GOES INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN DIES, AFTER ABOUT 5 MIN WAS ABLE TO START AND THEN AS DRIVING 45 MLS PER HOUR THE CAR AGAIN GOES INTO NEUTRAL AND DIES, LEAVING NO CONTROL OF STEERING AND CARS ZOOMING BY ALMOST HIT WITH CHILDREN IN CAR, READ UP ON THIS PROBLEM AND NHTSA HAS LOOKED INTO THIS IN 2012 BUT STILL NO FIX, WHY NO RECALL, THIS IS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND BMW IS NOT TAKING RESPONSABILITY OVER 500 COMPLAINTS AND AFFECTS 122K CARS FROM 02-08 PLEASE HELP

AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAS MODULE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 BMW 745LI. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR HOUSING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL VEERED TO THE RIGHT CAUSING THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A BRIDGE THROUGH THE RAILING AND INTO A POLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED UNKNOWN INJURIES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,000.
TOOK THE BMW 745LI IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SLOW TO START CRANKING AND SECOND OPINION. ALSO WANTED THE DEALERSHIP TO REVIEW AIRBAG LIGHT AND DSC. UPON REVIEW BY THE DEALERSHIP, ALL FOUR DOOR TAGS AND SZL (COMFORT ACCESS) IS CAUSING BATTERY DRAIN AND MUST BE REPLACED. ALSO WAS QUOTED THAT THE CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND A FUEL LINE LEAK IS PRESENT. AFTER SPEAKING WITH A MANAGER, IT WAS DECIDED THAT THEY WERE NOT SURE IF THE DOOR TAGS AND SZL WOULD ASSIST WITH CLEARING THE SLOW CRANK. I OPTED THE SERVICE FROM THAT DEALER AND DECIDED TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 5 MILES, I REALIZED THAT THE CAR REEKED OF GAS. THIS WAS NOT AN APPARENT ISSUE WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP HAS CAUSED MORE HARDSHIP THAN ASSISTANCE. *TR
I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE CAR WAS SLOW TO CRANK. I HAD THE BATTERY TESTED AND IT WAS FINE. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED I NEEDED A FUEL PUMP. IT WAS REPAIRED. TWO DAYS LATER, I AM DRIVING THE 745LI BMW UP AN INCLINED HIGHWAY MERGING ONTO A BRIDGE WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR STARTED JERKING, LOOSING POWER, CUTTING BACK AND DECELERATING UNTIL IT SHUT COMPLETELY OFF. I WAS UNABLE TO CRANK IT OR EVEN MOVE OFF THE HIGHWAY TO A SAFE LOCATION. THE CAR TOTALLY STALLED ON THE BRIDGE. WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY CLAIMED THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. HOWEVER A FEW DAYS LATER THE CAR STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY AGAIN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO CLAIMS IT WAS OUT OF GAS. THE DEALER PUTS GAS IN IT. THE NEXT DAY, THE CAR STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THE FUEL GUAGE WAS NOT READING PROPERLY AND REPLACED THE SENSORS. THE CAR IS STILL SLOW TO CRANK, WHICH IS THE INTIAL PROBLEM FROM DAY ONE. STILL NOT REPAIRED, $3,000.00 LATER. *TR
MY VEHICLE STALLS IN TRAFFIC AND ONCE IT CUTS OFF THERE IS NO WAY TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. A POLICE TRIED TO HELP ME OUT AND TOLD ME THAT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. MY CAR WAS DUE FOR STATE INSPECTION AND I TOOK IT INTO RICHMOND BMW IN MIDLOTHIAN VA. THE TECHNICIAN CALLED AND SAID THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON AND THE SENSOR IS BAD. THERE IS AN AIRBAG RECALL FOR THE OTHER BMW SERIES BUT IT DIDN'T INCLUDE THE SEVEN SERIES. THERE ARE OTHER 7 SERIES OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. I READ THIS ON THE BMW FORUMS AND IT IS A LOT OF BMW OWNERS SPENDING MONEY FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED AS WELL. CAN YOU PLEASE CONSIDER OUR CARS AS WELL. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR EMISSIONS INSPECTION AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE CRANK CASE VENTILATION VALVES HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WAS NOT PERFORMED.
