The contact owned a 2008 Buick Enclave. The contact stated while driving at 20 MPH, a warning message indicating that the vehicle was overheated illuminated. The contact pulled into a nearby parking lot. The contact then opened the hood of the vehicle by engaging the power release button inside of the vehicle. The contact saw black smoke and flames coming out from underneath the hood. The contact immediately exited the vehicle. The contact attempted to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with the assistance of the fire department. A fire department report was filed. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle remained at the scene. The local dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included in a recall associated with the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 10V240000 (Electrical System). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
TL* THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER OWNS A 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER DAUGHTER'S BOYFRIEND WAS DRIVING UP A HILL AT AN UNKNOWN RATE OF SPEED, A FLAME HAD IGNITED FROM THE ENGINE WITHOUT WARNING. HER BOYFRIEND EXITED THE VEHICLE, CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND SAW THAT THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. A FELLOW MOTORIST WITNESSED THE SITUATION AND ASSISTED HER DAUGHTERS BOYFRIEND BY GIVING HIM A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WHICH THE BOYFRIEND USED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A FIRE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER HAD THE VEHICLE INITIALLY TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME WHERE IT WAS THEN TOWED TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS DUE TO A "MECHANICAL DEFECT" AND WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE FOR A REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER NOR THE DEALER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.
THE ENGINE BLEW OUT TODAY. CAUGHT FIRE. SCARED THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF MY DAUGHTER. THE CAR MADE A JERKING MOTION AND NOISE WHILE ON THE HWY. THEN FLAMES WERE SHOOTING OUT....PULLED IT OVER IMMEDIATELY AND TURNED OFF. IT WAS SMOKING. THE POLICE OFFICER SAID THE LOWER PART OF THE ENGINE BLEW OUT ...IT LITERALLY WAS MISSING PIECES OF METAL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY MADE AN ABNORMAL LOW GEAR NOISE. THE CONTACT WAS ALERTED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS EMITTING FIRE FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, SHE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND NOTICED A CLOUD OF BLACK SMOKE, WITHIN A FEW SECONDS LATER THE VEHICLE ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS PUT OUT BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SMOKE INHALATION BUT WAS NOT HOSPITALIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
AT 125,000 MILES THE TIMING CHAIN IT'S GOING OUT.
OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON FIRST, THEN HEARD LOUD TAPPING NOISE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED OVER CHECKED THE OIL (FRESH OIL CHANGE THE DAY BEFORE) IT WAS STILL FULL. GOT THE VEHICLE HOME AND HAD THE CODES PULLED. THE DREADED TIMING CHAIN CODES OF P0008 AND P0017 AT 128,000 MILES ON THE CAR. MOST SHOPS THAT I CALLED WON'T EVEN TOUCH THIS BECAUSE OF THE EXTENSIVE REPAIR. THAT LEAVES THE STEALERSHIP AT THE PRICE OF $3000 AND THAT IS IF NOTHING ELSE WAS DAMAGED. WHY WERE THE 2008'S LEFT OUT OF THE BUICK TIMING CHAIN RECALL WHEN IT HAS THE SAME 3.6L ENGINE? THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER BUICK. THIS HAPPENED LAST YEAR (06/2018), BUT I KNEW IT WOULD BE A COSTLY REPAIR, SO THE CAR SAT UNTIL NOW.
NUT CAME LOSE AND FELL OFF CAUSING HYDRAULIC FLUID TO LEAK FROM FEONT MOTOR MOUNT

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT 70000 MILES. BROUGHT INTO DEALER AND TOLD STRETCHED TIMING CHAIN. ALTHOUGH GM HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON MANY OF THESE ENGINES IN THE ENCLAVE, I WAS TOLD THAT MINE WAS NOT A PART OF THE QUALIFIED BATCH FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THAT ALL COSTS WOULD BE OUT OF POCKET. I AM CURRENTLY STUCK WITH A VEHICLE THAT NEEDS OVER $3500 IN REPAIRS ON A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THIS ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS NEEDED EMISSIONS TESTING AND IS AS SUCH UNDRIVABLE.
P0011 P0016 P0017 ARE SHOWING AS FAULTS , ALL CRANKSHAFT AND CAM SHAFT SENSORS REPLACED, DEALERSHIP SAYS NEEDS $5000 REPAIR FOR STRETCHED TIMING CHAIN. CAR RUNS FINE, NO SLACK IN TIMING CHAIN WE CANNOT GET A PASSED INSPECTION DUE TO FAULTY CODES. 78,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM AND GM NEEDS TO ADDRESS.
I HAVE AN 08' ENCLAVE AND I LIVE IN WISCONSIN, TODAY I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE AND ABOUT 2-3 MINUTES INTO THE RIDE, THE VEHICLE RAPIDLY BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE STABILITY-TRACK LIGHT BOTH CAME ON DURING THE JERKING AND SLOWING DOWN OF MY VEHICLE. THE DIC STROLLS THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE "REDUCE ENGINE POWER AND SERVICE ENGINE." I DROVE MY VEHICLE ALL THE WAY HOME AND THE ENTIRE TIME I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE NO MORE THAN 20 MILES PER HOUR EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS COMPLETELY DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS IS MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION AND IM HOPING THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BECAUSE I GOOGLED THE PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE AND APPARENTLY IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR

WAS DRIVING ON I-35 ALMOST TO WICHITA KS, ABOUT 9 MILES OUT, LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON AND BINGING ALARM FOR ME TO STOP ENGINE, HAD GRANDKIDS WITH ME, AND IT WAS DARK ON HIGHWAY, PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF ENGINE, WAITED FOR ABOUT 10 MINS, MADE IT TO A HOTEL IN WICHITA, IT WAS ABOUT 1 AM SUNDAY MORNING. HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT THE OIL PAN AND CHECK THE OIL, SAID WHEN I GET HOME TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. NOTICED THAT CAR BEGAN TO MAKE A SHAKING OR SHUTTER NOISE UPON ACCELERATION, MADE IT BACK TO HOME, TOOK CAR TO BUICK DEALER ON 3/26/15 BUICK DEALER SAID IT MIGHT BE SOMETHING IN THE TRANSMISSION AFTER THEY TEST DROVE IT, QUOTED ME A $4000 REPAIR PRICE, I JUST PAID THE $123.12 FOR THE DIAGNOSIS, DEALER SAID THAT IF NOT REPAIRED I MIGHT LOSE MY 3RD, OR REVERSE GEAR. ON FRIDAY 4/11/15 I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM ABOUT A POSSIBLE BROKEN/CRACKED WAVE PLATE ON 2008 ENCLAVE WHICH STATED THAT I MIGHT LOSE MY 3RD , 5TH OR REVERSE. SINCE IT WAS THE SAME WORDING AS WHAT THE DEALER TOLD ME, ON SATURDAY 4/12/15 I TOOK MY BUICK BACK TO THE DEALER, BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE REQUIREMENT IN THE LETTER, DROPPED IT OFF 04/15/15 AND . ON 4/16/15 DEALER INFORMS ME THAT THIS IS NOT MY ISSUE, THEY WANT TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION AT ABOUT $4,000. I AM JUST LEARY BECAUSE I RECEIVED THE LETTER AFTER THEY HAD INFORMED ME THAT I MIGHT LOSE MY 3RD/REVERSE GEAR, BUT NOW THEY TELLING ME THAT THIS IS NOT MY ISSUE AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED. SO I HAVE TO PAY $520.00 FOR THEM LOOKING AT MY WAVE PLATE, AND PUTTING MY ENCLAVE BACK TOGETHER. AFTER SEEING SO MANY OTHER ENCLAVE OWNERS ON THIS SITE, I JUST DECIDED TO ADD MY OWN SO OTHERS OWNERS CAN BE INFORMED OF THE ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD BUMPING NOISE THAT CEASED AS THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE BLOWING CONNECTOR ROD AND THE ENGINE BLOCK FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,985.
AT APPROXIMATELY 67,000 MILES, THE RPMS IN MY 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE STARTED GOING WACKY AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. IT FELT LIKE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, SO I TOOK MY ENCLAVE TO THE DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. TURNED OUT THE 35R WAVE PLATE WAS BROKEN -- DEBRIS THROUGHOUT TRANSMISSION -- AND $2700 LATER THEY RETURNED MY ENCLAVE TO ME WITH A REPAIRED/REBUILT TRANSMISSION. I WAS EXTREMELY FORTUNATE I WAS NOT REAR-ENDED WHEN MY CAR LOST ALL POWER AS I HAD TO LITERALLY LIMP MY ENCLAVE INTO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS, I FOUND THAT THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE IS EXTREMELY WIDESPREAD AMONG OWNERS OF THE 2008 BUICK ENCLAVE, BUT NEITHER NHTSA NOR GM IS MOVING ON INVESTIGATING AND SOLVING THIS PROBLEM. ALL PARTIES SEEM TO BE KICKING THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD UNTIL SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED AND THEN MAYBE SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN. ISSUE A RECALL NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE !!! *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE JUST SHUTS DOWN. THE FIRST TIME IT RESTARTED, BUT ON THE SECOND OCCURRENCE IT WOULD NOT RESTART.
