TAKATA RECALL. ON OCTOBER 13TH 2018 I WAS IN A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY WAS AN SINGLE CAR ACCIDENT MY TIRE SHREDDED BUT STILL MAINTAINED AIR AND MY AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY ON EITHER SIDE AND I GOT A BROKEN NOSE AND A FEW FACIAL FRACTURES. NOW I HAVE SEVERE HEADACHES EVERYDAY SINCE THEN.

THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT A HIGHWAY SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, WHEN IT GOT INTO A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE OTHER VEHICLE MADE AN ABRUPT STOP ON THE HIGHWAY IN FRONT OF THE 2004 CHEVROLET AVEO, WHICH CAUSED THE AVEO TO HIT THE BACK OF THE SUDDENLY STOPPED VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY, WHICH FROM MY UNDERSTANDING SHOULD HAPPEN WHEN TRAVELING AT THAT SPEED. IN FACT IT ESPECIALLY SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED, DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE IMPACT DAMAGED THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS THAT I HAVE BOUGHT TWO OTHER VEHICLES FROM THE SAME MANUFACTURER SINCE MY PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT MY FAMILY IS SAFE WHEN RIDING IN THESE VEHICLES.
THIS IS JUST ONE PROBLEM...THE CAR HAD MAJOR PROBLEMS IN THE PAST LIKE DYING TOTALLY ON A HIGHWAY BUT THAT'S NOT MY CONCERN RIGHT NOW. THE BACK SEAT BELT IS LOCKED UP & IT WILL NOT RETRACT. I HAVE A CHILD SO IT'S REALLY INCONVENIENT.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,950.
DRIVER SEAT BELT BUCKLE FROZE UP AND THE BUCKLE WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THIS BUCKLE HAS EXHIBITED DIFFICULTY IN THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. MANY TIMES WOULD HAVE TO PUSH BELT INTO SLOT 2X OR 3X BEFORE THE BUCKLE WOULD CATCH. NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A ISSUE. THANK GOD MY DAUGHTER WASN'T DRIVING TO SCHOOL AND THE THING LOCKED UP OR SOMETHING. NOW, IT WILL COST APPROX. $200 TO HAVE JUST THE BUCKLE REPLACED AT THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT THERE ARE TOO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE AVEO SEAT BELTS STARTING FROM 2004. I LIKED THIS LITTLE CAR BUT I AM DONE. I THINK I'LL STICK WITH DODGE. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION. WE PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM A USED CAR DEALERSHIP THIS YEAR. THE REAR SEAT BELTS DON'T EXTEND OR RETRACT. THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL ISSUED ON OCTOBER 15, 2004 (RECALL # 04V407000). CHEVROLET'S RECALL CENTER HAS TOLD ME IT'S NO LONGER THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR THE REAR SEAT BELTS, BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THIS IS A PASSENGER SAFETY CONCERN, THIS RECALL ITEM IS NOW IN A, "CLOSED" STATUS. MY QUESTIONS IS, "REALLY"?! DEFECTIVE PASSENGER SEAT BELTS ARE NO LONGER CHEVY'S RESPONSIBILITY AFTER A CERTAIN TIME PERIOD? THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO INSURANCE COMPANY LOT BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXAMINED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 80,000. UPDATED 12/12/11
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET AVEO LS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A MEDIAN AND A SNOW BANK. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SLID ON BLACK ICE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL OVER AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT DID NOT MENTION IF THERE WERE ANY INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND WAS UNAWARE OF THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WAS 82,000.
AIR BAG LIGHT WILL NOT SHUT OFF. DEALER HAS REPAIRED IT AT LEAST 4 TIMES AND NOW IT IS ON AGAIN. HE SAYS THEY CAN'T OR WON'T DO IT UNDER WARRANTY, AND TOLD ME IT WOULD COST ABOUT $500.00 THIS IS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE. SEEMS LIKE THERE ARE LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT AVEO AIR BAG LIGHT STAYING ON. CAR WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 KM\H WHEN A SUDDEN STOP OCCURRED IN TRAFFIC. MY WIFE WAS ABOUT TO CHANGE LANES AND WAS LOOKING IN HER BLIND SPOT AND WHEN SHE TURNED BACK SHE COULD NOT STOP IN TIME. SHE REAR-ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE TOTALING HER 2004 AVEO AND THEN WAS HIT FROM BEHIND AS WELL. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND DUE TO THIS MY WIFE HAS BEEN IN PAIN WITH HER BACK AND NECK EVER SINCE. 2004 CHEVY AVEO REAR SEATBELTS DO NOT WORK . SAFETY RECALL ISSUED AND A GUIDE TO REPAIR SEATBELTS WAS INSTALLED AS PART OF THE RECALL. THE SEATBELTS ONCE AGAIN ARE BROKEN TWISTED AND CAN NOT BE USED! I CAN SOMETIMES FIX ONE SEATBELT BUT WITHIN A WEEK IT IS NOT ABLE TO BE USED AGAIN! MY DAUGHTER WAS SQUEEZED BY THE SEATBELT WHEN I APPLIED THE BREAKS. IT WAS A VERY TIGHT SQUEEZE BUT I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND UNBUCKLE HER QUICKLY SO SHE HAD ONLY VERY MINOR INJURIES. I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE WITHOUT SEATBELTS FOR MY CHILDREN ON MANY OCCASIONS OR MAKE THEM BOTH USE THE MIDDLE SEATBELT TOGETHER. WE WERE ON VACATION AND WERE FORCED TO DRIVE HOME 12 HOURS WITHOUT A SEATBELT BECAUSE OF THE PRODUCT DEFECT. IT MAY SOUND LIKE A SIMPLE THING TO FIX BUY BUYING A NEW CAR BUT I SIMPLY CANT AFFORD IT AND I KNOW MANY 2004 AVEOS WERE PRODUCED SO PLEASE DO SOMETHING SO THAT GM WILL CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND NO CHILD DIES AS A RESULT OF THIS! *TR
I WAS IN A SEMI V CAR ACCIDENT WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 19TH, ON A 4 LANE MAJOR HIGHWAY (I-294). I WAS DRIVING A 2004 CHEVY AVEO. I WAS CUT OFF BY THE SEMI AND MY CAR WAS HIT, SPUN OUT OF CONTROL THROUGH 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND HIT THE CENTER MEDIAN OF THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR IS TOTALED. THE ENTIRE ENGINE BLOCK WAS SMASHEDINWARD. MY AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY. I'M ANGRY. THIS CAR HAS HAD NOTHING BUT DEFECT AFTER DEFECT, BUT I PAID FOR A SAFETY FEATURE THAT WAS FAULTY. I WALKED AWAY FROM THIS ACCIDENT, BY THE GRACE OF GOD, AND NOW AM SUFFERING HORRIFIC PAIN THAT IS DIRECTLY INFLUENCED BY MY AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYING. I HAVE NO RECOURSE TO TAKE AGAINST CHEVY. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND DEACTIVATED THE AIR BAG SWITCH, SO THAT THE AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY WHILE REMOVING HER FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES BY STRIKING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED FROM THE SCENE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 66,322.

A NHTSA RECALL, # 04V407000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE CONCERNING, THE SEAT BELTS: REAR HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT OFFER A SECOND REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL.
