The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, and it was diagnosed that the brake line was damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V702000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR LEAKING AND DRIPPING OVER ENGINE INTERNALS. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH GM: SEE SERVICE BULLETIN: 09-05-22-005C. HOWEVER, GM IS STATING THIS WILL NOT BE REPAIRED UNLESS THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. UPON ENCOUNTERING SOME BRAKING ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE, I INSPECTED THE RESERVOIR AND DISCOVERED THE LEAKING FLUID, WHICH HAS STARTED TO EAT AWAY AT THE PAINT IN THE ENGINE BAY. I'M VERY CONCERNED THE FLUID WILL LEAK OUT AND CAUSE A FIRE, OR CAUSE MY BREAKS TO STOP WORKING COMPLETELY. AS AN ATTORNEY, I WOULD THINK THAT GM WOULD WANT TO LIMIT ITS LIABILITY AND REPAIR THIS ISSUE TO, REGARDLESS OF WARRANTY COVERAGE. SHOULDN'T THIS BE A FORMAL RECALL?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET CAMARO. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HEARD A RATTLING NOISE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE CYLINDER BOLT BECAME LOOSE. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE DEALER (SUBURBAN CHEVROLET 12475 PLAZA EDEN PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA 12475 877-350-6609). THE DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE THE CONTACT FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V069000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
