WHEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD OR WHEN I STOP, THE CAR HAS A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL. IT IS GETTING WORSE EACH DAY.
JUST ABOUT TWO MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING CAR (DATE IS A GUESS AT THE MOMENT) I BEGAN TO SMELL GAS. I THEN SAW THAT IT IS LEAKING GAS WHEN CAR IS RUNNING (IN MOTION OR IDLE). TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE PATCHED IT UP AS THAT WAS ALL I COULD AFFORD. NOW IT IS LEAKING SAME WAY AGAIN SO I WENT ONLINE AND SAW THAT MANY AND I MEAN MANY COBALTS ARE ALL DOING THE SAME THING. I SAW A RECALL #12191 AND #12191B ON THEM ONLINE BUT HERE IT SAYS MY VIN DOESN'T HAVE A RECALL. THIS IS A HAZARD AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE IS NO CAR WARRANTY TO COVER THIS.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

I OWN A 2007 CHEVY COBALT, WHICH HAS RECENTLY BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT TURNS ON, AND THE ENGINE STALLS. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM, AND RECENTLY, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO START AT ALL. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING ISSUE. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON COBALT TRACTION CONTROL FAILURES, AND I KNOW THIS TO NOT BE AN ISOLATED EVENT. SOME EXPERTS ESTIMATE THAT THE MAJORITY OF COBALTS SUFFER FROM SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING TRACTION CONTROL FAILURES. IN ALL RESPECTS, THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT REQUIRES A RECALL.
A LEAK HAS OCCURRED IN THE FUEL LINE BY THE GAS TANK WHERE THE PLASTIC CLIP IS THAT HOLDS ALL THE LINES. THE LEAK IS ABOUT 3" FROM THE EXHAUST AND IS A SEVERE FIRE RISK.

THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE BRAKES HAD TO BE RECALIBRATED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED UNTIL THE FUEL TANK WAS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THE DEFECT: NO AUDIBLE WARNING CHIME WHEN THE DRIVERS DOOR IS OPENED AFTER TURNING OFF THE IGNITION AND LEAVING THE KEY IN THE CYLINDER. THERE IS ALSO NO AUDIBLE CHIME WHEN THE SEATBELT IS NOT CONNECTED WHILE DRIVING AND THE TURN SIGNALS MAKE NO AUDIBLE SOUNDS WHEN ON. ALL AUDIBLE SOUNDS ARE PLAYED USING THE VEHICLES SOUND SYSTEM. I SAW THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ISSUED FOR OTHER GM MODELS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND OTHER SIMILAR GM VEHICLES. MY CHIMES HAVEN'T WORKED RIGHT FOR AWHILE NOW. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A ON GOING PROBLEM WITH GM RADIOS FOR A LONG TIME. THERE WERE NO VISIBLE FUEL LEAKS. WHILE DRIVING, THE FUEL ODOR BECAME STRONGER AS IT EMITTED FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
THE CAR GOT VERY LOUD DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, GOT HOME SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT, THE MECHANIC REPORTED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE WHICH RUINED THE ENGINE.
HAVE A FUEL LEAK WHERE THE LINE MEETS THE FUEL TANK. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE SAME MODEL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT ONLY FOR MODELS IN CERTAIN STATES. SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH MANY MORE INDIVIDUALS TOO. TAKE CARE OF YOUR MISTAKES GM! YOU THIEVES!
STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE. LOOKS LIKE SMALL LEAK FROM TOP OF TANK. RECALL ISSUED ON CAR LONG BEFORE I PURCHASED ONE BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. WHETHER DRIVING OR SITTING STILL IT'S VERY STRONG
THE VEHICLE STALLED AFTER I STOPPED THE CAR AT A STOPLIGHT (CITY STREET). BEFORE THAT (10 MINS OR SO) IT WAS LOOSING ITS ACCELERATION POWER AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD IT TOWED AND THE REPAIR PLACE SAID IT WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE WHOLE ENGINE REPLACED. THERE WAS A FAULTY TIMING CHAIN COMPONENT.

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WOULD HAVE A CLUNKING NOISE AND THE STEERING WHEEL FELT AS IF IT WERE LOOSE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000.
LOW COMPRESSION IN ONE CYLINDER (74LBS) CAUSING INSPECTION FAILURE. FOUR IGNITION SPARK COILS FAILED AND CHANGED PREVIOUS TO ENGINE FAIL. LUCKILY THE ENGINE HAS NOT BLOWN OUT, NO ONE HURT. OTHER OWNERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. MY VEHICLE IS 9YRS OLD, UNDER 79,000 MILES, OIL AND FILTER (WHICH IS TERMED AS "SPECIAL"-IT'S A CORRUGATED "PAPER" FILTER AT AN ADDITIONAL $12+ EVERY CHANGE) CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES. CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE IS NOT "NORMAL" FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE WITH NO HISTORY OF OVERHEATING OR ANY OTHER ISSUE UP TO THIS POINT! HOPEFULLY NO ONE HAS BEEN OR WILL BE INJURED DUE TO ENGINE SEIZURE OR FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. JUST INFORMING OF POSSIBILITIES, THESE VEHICLES SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN SOLD! MY VEHICLE IS STATIONARY SINCE THE END OF APRIL UNTIL I CAN HAVE IT REPAIRED.
MY POWER STEERING IS GOING OUT. I CALLED ABOUT THE RECALL, BUT SINCE THEY CLAIM IT IS FIXED, THEY WILL NOT REDO THE RECALL WORK. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE REPAIR WORK THEY DID, DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE COMPLETELY. I WAS DRIVING AND WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL IT WILL NOT RETURN TO THE NORMAL POSITION. SO, I HAVE TO MANUALLY DO IT, WHICH MAKES THE VEHICLE SWERVE. IT IS DANGEROUS, AND A KNOWN PROBLEM.

FIRST I EXPERIENCED FULE EXCEL RATION. CALLED MANUFACTURE TOLD ME I WAS EXPERIENCING A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT MY VIN WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. TOOK IT IN FOR IGNITION RECALL SHORTLY AFTER MY HEAD LIGHTS DIM OR ONE GOES OUT THEN IT COMES BACK ON THEN THE OTHER ONE WILL GO OUT OR DIM TOOK IT TO MACHANIC THEY FIXED IT BUT IT IS NOW DOING THE SAME THING THEN THE POWER STEERING SUNDENLY WENT OUT ALMOST HAD A COLLISON LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. RESTARTED THE CAR EVERYTHING WORKED THEN POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON TOOK IT TO MACHCANIC TURNED THE CAR OFF TO HAVE HIM CHECK IT HE PULLED IT IN TO THE SHOP AND LIGHT WAS NOT ON. SO HE TOLD ME I HAD TO BRING IT BACK WHEN LIGHT CAME ON IN ORDER TO RUN A TEST. LIGHT NEVER CAME BACK ON THEN 5 DAYS AGO LOST POWER STEERING AGAIN ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. IF I AM AT A COMPLETE STOP IN TRAFFIC OR AT A RED LIGHT THE CAR WILL EXCILERATE WITH OUT ME TOUCHING THE GAS WHEN I BREAK TO KEEP FROM HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME THE REAR END WILL FISH TAIL. I AM 60 YEARS OLD THIS CAR HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. IT IS UNSAFE THE MANUFACTURER ADMITTED WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT THERE WERE ISSUES WITH THE PROMLEMS I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING BUT MY VIN WAS ONLY ON THE IGNITION RECALL. THEY TOLD ME THE DEALER WOULD FIX THEM AT MY EXPENCE. I GET 950. DOLLARS A. MONTH AND HAVE CANCER. I HAVE NO MEANS TO PAY FOR THE DEFECTS IN 2012 MY DAUGHTER BOUGHT ME THE CAR AND PAID 10,000.00 FOR IT. I HAVE NO OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION TO MY DOCTORS ECT. PLEASE HELP ME. WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT MY HEAD LIGHT WILL DIM OR ONE WILL COMPLETELY GO OUT. CAUSING ME TO ALMOST MISS THE EXIT AND RUN OFF AN EMBANKMENT.
I HAD JUST GOT OFF WORK ON MY WAY HOME, I SAW THAT THE DASH WAS SAYING POWER STEERING AND THEN THE STEERING WENT OUT COMPLETELY I PULLED TO THE SAID OF THE ROAD THE BEST THAT I COULD IT WAS VERY HARD FOR ME TO TURN THE WHEEL IT TOOK ALL OF MY EFFORT TO TURN THE WHEEL . I COULD OF GOTTEN INTO A ACCIDENT. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR IN FEAR THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN AN I WILL BE SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED.

OUR CAR WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON MARCH 29, 2016. IT WAS DECLARED TOTALED. OUR CHEVY COLBALT HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY! OUR CAR WAS TURNING LEFT ON A CITY STREET WHEN IT HIT ANOTHER CAR.

LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST

THE CONTACT COULD NOT STEER AND CRASHED INTO A TREE AND BOUNCED TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE TWO FRONT TIRES WERE DESTROYED AND THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.

GENERAL MOTORS NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM, ISSUE A RECALL, AND REIMBURSE OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD TO UNDERGO THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR.

THE GAS LINES CRACKED AND CAN SMELL GAS CONSTANTLY.
A SEVERE FUEL LEAK DETECTED ON THE GROUND AFTER ENCOUNTERING GASOLINE VAPOR SMELL. THIS WAS DETERMINED TO BE DEFECTIVE FUEL LINES. I WAS NOTIFIED BY SERVICING DEALER THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL DELIVERY LINES WOULD NEED REPLACED AT A COST OF $700 PLUS. I BELIEVE THESE LINES ARE LOCATED CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST / EMISSIONS SYSTEMS. THIS IS DESCRIBED AND SEEN AS AN EXPLOSION/ FIRE HAZARD. *JS

THE CAR SHUTS COMPLETELY OFF WHILE DRIVING, IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED AT LOW SPEEDS AND ACTS LIKE IT JUST STALLED. ONCE RESTARTED, THE CAR RUNS FINE. THIS HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES BOTH WHEN FIRST STARTING THE CAR AND ALSO AFTER DRIVING LONG PERIODS.

THE CAR LAST NIGHT HAD POWER BUT WOULD NOT TURN OVER OR ATTEMPT TO START. WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING IS LOOSE, AT LOW SPEEDS POWER STEERING SOMETIMES WORKS. LOUD POPPING IN SLOW SHARP TURNS. JUST HAD IT CHECKED AND NEW TIRES SAID SUSPENSION WAS GREAT.
