WE NOTICED A GAS SMELL IN THE CAR, BOTH ON THE ROAD AND STATIONARY. THE SMELL BECAME MORE NOTICEABLE IN LATE NOVEMBER, EARLY DECEMBER. MY MECHANIC FOUND A CRACK IN THE HOSE CONNECTION AT THE FUEL PUMP. IT BROKE OFF WHEN HE TOUCHED IT. HE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND HOSE LINES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED FOR THE IGNITION KEY TO BE REMOVED FROM THE STARTER, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WAS IN DIC MODE. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE ACCORDINGLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED WITH AN AFTERMARKET PART THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO RESOLUTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,703.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A PARKED CAR AND A TREE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT LEG THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,769.
THIS IS MY SECOND COMPLAINT ON THE POWER ASSISTED STEERING FAILING ON MY 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. TERRY CULLEN CHEVROLET SUPPOSEDLY MADE THE RECALL REPAIR ON THIS CAR IN 2010. HOWEVER, THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED TWICE. THE SECOND TIME IT FAILED, I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY ON NOVEMBER 22, 2015 AT 11:36 AM AND HAD JUST BACKED OUT OF MY GARAGE. THE CAR FELT LIKE A STALL; I COULD NOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND ON THE DASHBOARD THE MESSAGE READ "POWER STEERING". THIS FLASHED ON, REMAINED LIT UP FOR AWHILE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF. AFTER A MINUTE OR SO I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT FAILURE OF THE POWER ASSISTED STEERING. I HAVE REQUESTED AGAIN THAT GENERAL MOTORS REPAIR THIS PROBLEM UNDER THE ORIGINAL RECALL NOTICE IN 2010 SINCE THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND SHOWS UP UNEXPECTEDLY AT ANY TIME. I REQUESTED TERRY CULLEN TO ASK THAT GENERAL MOTORS REPAIR THIS PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE TO ME. I ALSO HAVE SPOKEN TO A FEMALE CSR AT GENERAL MOTORS ABOUT REPAIRING THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT CHARGE TO ME. SHE STATED THAT TERRY CULLEN WOULD REPAIR THE PROBLEM FOR $99.00. I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN AND DO NOT HAVE $99.00 FOR THIS REPAIR. SO, I AM FACED WITH THE PROBLEM OF RISKING MY LIFE WHEN I MUST DRIVE. I HAVE INFORMED THE MANAGER AT TERRY CULLEN, LEE POWELL, AND THE GENERAL MOTORS CSR THAT IF I AM IN A FATAL ACCIDENT DUE TO FAILURE OF THE ASSISTED POWER STEERING THAT I HAVE INSTRUCTED MY FAMILY TO TAKE LEGAL ACTIION BY FILING A LAWSUIT AGAINST GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION, TERRY CULLEN CHEVROLET DEALER IN JONESBORO, GA AND LEE POWELL, THE SERVICE MANAGER AT TERRY CULLEN CHEVROLET.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS LEAKING DUE TO CORROSION AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. A DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,000.
AT ROUGHLY 110,000 ON A GENTLY USED 07 COBALT THE INTERNAL TIMING CHAIN BROKE AND RENDERED THE ENGINE USELESS. THE REPAIR - A TOTAL MOTOR SWAP FOR $5K! AFTER I RAN INTO THIS PROBLEM MY WIFE LOOKED UP OTHER REVIEWS ON THE COBALT AND FOUND OUT NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SUPPER EXPENSIVE ERROR THAT CHEVY HAS OVERLOOKED AND COSTLY FOR THE CONSUMER - US! AS WITH OTHERS, I WENT THROUGH ALL THE OFFICIAL RECALLS SUCH AS THE IGNITION AND POWER STEERING, AND THEN I PAID AN ADDITIONAL $600 FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM TO REPLACE - ANOTHER NOTORIOUS PROBLEM OF THE COBALT, AND NOW THIS!? COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. IF YOU CANT MAKE A CAR OUT OF QUALITY PARTS, DON'T MAKE ONE AT ALL! ANYWAYS, LUCKILY THIS HAPPENED WHILE WE WERE PARKED BUT OF COURSE IT WAS VERY INCONVENIENT PLUS WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE TOW. IT MIGHT HAVE SHOWED SYMPTOMS OF A PROBLEM TWO WEEKS PRIOR WITH OCCASIONAL DIFFICULTY STARTING THE CAR WITH EITHER PROLONGED CRANKING, OR EVEN A SECOND TRY WAS NEEDED. I DON'T KNOW WHAT EXACTLY IS FAILING WHETHER IT'S THE PLASTIC PARTS OR THE TIMING CHAIN ITSELF, BUT THERE IS SOMETHING HERE THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND ULTIMATELY LIFTED TO A RECALL CAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT THERE AFFECTED BY THIS, AND $5K ISN'T SOMETHING THAT ANYBODY SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A CORPORATION'S INCOMPETENCE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE KEY WAS ACCIDENTALLY REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO OPERATE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF AND THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT BELT WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LINKAGE WAS FAULTY. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME INOPERABLE WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED RANDOMLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.
IN 2010 THERE WAS A GENERAL MOTORS RECALL RE THE ELECTRIC ASSISTED POWER STEERING ON THE 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. I HAD NO PROBLEM UP TO THAT TIME. TERRY CULLEN CHEVROLET REPAIRED THE CAR ACCORDING TO THEM. HOWEVER, ON WED., OCTOBER 28, 2015 AT AROUND 1:30 PM THE POWER STEERING FAILED. MY CAR SUDDENLY APPEARED TO STOP; THEN I TRIED TO DRIVE AND COULD BARELY MOVE THE CAR. THE WORDS "POWER STEERING" LIT UP ON MY DASHBOARD. FORTUNATELY, I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND WAS ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND MOVE INTO A PARKING SPOT WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY. I HAVE SPOKEN SEVERAL TIMES TO A GM CSR OVER THE PHONE WHO STATED THAT SHE WOULD REACH OUT TO THE DEALER TERRY CULLEN WHO HAD "REPAIRED" THE CAR. I ALSO SPOKE TO LEE POWELL, THE SERVICE MANAGER (770-968-4444) WHO STATED THAT TO REPAIR THE CAR IT WOULD COST. THE CSR, STACY, (1-790-5600, EXT 5913487) AT GM TELEPHONED ME AND STATED THAT LEE POWELL, SERVICE MANAGER TOLD HER THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR MY AUTO FOR $95.00. I BELIEVE THAT GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD REPAIR MY CAR FOR FREE SINCE THE PROBLEM IS ONE OF THE SEVEN RECALLS THAT ARE ON THE 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT AND EVEN THOUGH THE ASSISTED POWER STEERING WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN REPAIRED, THE POWER STEERING FAILED ON OCTOBER 28, 2015. I AM 80 YEARS OLD, ON A VERY LOW FIXED INCOME OF SOCIAL SECURITY, AND DO NOT HAVE ANY FUNDS FOR THIS REPAIR. SINCE LEE POWELL, SERVICE MANAGER AT TERRY CULLEN CHEVROLET AT 1250 BATTLECREEK RD., JONESBORO, GA 30236 CLAIMED TO HAVE REPAIRED THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM AND IT FAILED ON OCTOBER 28, 2015, OBVIOUSLY THERE IS STILL A FLAW IN THE SYSTEM. I BELIEVE THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM IN THE 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT HAS AN INHERENT FLAW. THAT MODEL OF CAR SHOULD HAVE ANOTHER RECALL FOR THIS SERIOUS, POTENTIALLY FATAL FLAW. I REQUEST THAT GENERAL MOTORS ISSUE ANOTHER RECALL ON THAT PROBLEM, AND REPAIR MY CAR FREE; NO CHARGE TO ME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A UTILITY POLE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES AFTER IMPACT AND THE STEERING COLUMN CAUGHT FIRE. THE DRIVER SUFFERED LEFT KNEE, BACK, NECK, AND HAND INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
POWER STEERING NOT FIXED ON OPEN RECALL IN 2010 POWER STEERING RACK FAILURE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IN MOTION 3RD PARTY DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING RACK FAILURE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO FIX.
I BOUGHT A USED 07 COBALT TWO WEEKS AGO. IT WAS RUNNING FINE UNTIL JUST LAST NIGHT (10/23/15) POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND POWER STEERING WAS GONE. I WAS PARKING MY CAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY HARD TO MOVE.
I RECEIVED A LETTER, #12191, FROM GM IN MARCH 2013 STATING SPECIAL COVER OF MY 07 CHEVROLET COBALT LT FOR A CONDITION "WHERE THE PLASTIC SUPPLY OR RETURN PORT ON THE FUEL PUMP CRACKS AND LEAKS FUEL OR FUEL VAPORS. FUEL VAPORS, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A VEHICLE FIRE." AT THAT TIME I WAS NOT EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, ON OCTOBER 21, 2015 I STARTED NOTICE A POWERFUL FUEL ODOR FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR WHEN PARK AFTER RUNNING. I REMEMBER THE LETTER, #12191, THAT STATED MY CAR WAS COVERED, SO I CALLED THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER, JIM TRENARY IN TROY, MO, AND STATED THE PROBLEM AND LETTER. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN STATED THEY WOULD RAISE THE CAR UP AND CHECK FOR FUEL LIQUID LEAKING FROM THE CAR. I TOLD THEM THAT AT THIS TIME ONLY FUEL VAPORS WERE LEAKING, AND HE SAID IF THAT THE CASE THEN IT WOULD NOT BE FIXED. THIS IS IN VIOLATION OF THE STATEMENT S IN LETTER #12191. I ALSO CALLED THE GM RECALL CENTER AND WAS TOLD TO JUST TAKE IT TO DEALER TO TELL ME THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT. THIS RESULTED IN ME DROPPING THE FUEL TANK, ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT INDEED THE SUPPLY LINE ON THE FUEL PUMP WAS CRACKED. I ORDER AN AC DELCO MU 1970 DIRECT OEM REPLACEMENT PUMP, AND INSTALLED THE UNIT. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO COVER THE COST OF THE FUEL PUMP. BASICALLY GM IS REFUSING TO FIX A SPECIAL COVERAGE OF MY CAR THAT COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO A FIRE THAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD FIX BUT ARE REFUSING TO FIX. I JUST WANTED TO MAKE THE NHTSA AWARE OF WHAT GM IS NOT DOING, WHICH IS FIXING CARS THAT COULD POTENTIAL CATCH FIRE IN PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE. THEIR OWN WORDS NOT MINE.

THE VIN WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING), BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,930.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNSURE OF THE FAILURE, BUT STATED THAT A MODULE MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
MY CAR STARTED SMELLING LIKE GAS WHENEVER I SHUT IT OFF AND I NOTICED IT WAS LEAKING. BECAUSE I LIVE IN MARYLAND MY CAR ISN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL FOR A DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP. CURRENT RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP IN OTHER STATES IS #090226. WHY IS THIS RECALL ONLY IN CERTAIN STATES? DOES IT TAKE SOMEONE DYING FOR THIS RECALL TO BE PERFORMED IN OTHER STATES BEFORE EITHER GM STEPS UP OR THE GOVERNMENT STEPS UP AND DOES THE RIGHT THING. I WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY ANYTHING CHEVROLET OR GM. THEY KNOWINGLY SOLD PEOPLE CARS THAT WERE PILES OF DEFECTIVE CRAP. NOW I HAVE A CAR THAT I DON'T DRIVE AND THE TRADE IN VALUE IS VIRTUALLY NON EXISTENT, AND MOST CAR DEALERS WON'T GIVE YOU A DIME FOR THESE DEFECTIVE CARS.
MY KEY HAS BEEN GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION FOR NOT REASON, I HAVE TO TAKE EXTRA TIME TO START MY CAR ABOUT 5 TIMES AND PUT IT IN ALL THE GEARS BEFORE IT WILL ALLOW ME TO REMOVE MY KEY FROM THE IGNITION.

I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY COBALT. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING STRONG GAS ODOR FROM OUTSIDE THE CAR AFTER DRIVING AND INSIDE MY CAR WHILE DRIVING.NO HUGE LEAK BUT THE ODOR IS MAKING ME SICK :( I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL BUT I LIVE IN MARYLAND....CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. MY 16 YR OLD SON WAS DRIVING IN A CUL-DE-SAC WHEN HE WAS ABOUT 3/4 OF THE WAY THRU THE CURVE HIS STEERING FAILED AND HE HIT A LIGHT POLE. HE STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL FROZE UP ON HIM. HE COULDN'T TURN THE WHEEL. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THEY STATED THAT THE RECALL WORK WAS ALREADY COMPLETED. THEN WHY ARE WE CONTINUING TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM? MY SON IS SUFFERING FROM WHIPLASH AND IS GOING TO CHIROPRACTOR VISITS TWICE WEEKLY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
I WAS ATTEMPTING TO EXIT MY DRIVEWAY TO THE RIGHT WHEN SUDDENLY I COULD NOT STEER THE CAR. MY STREET CURVES, AND AS I WAS LEAVING THE DRIVEWAY A CAR WAS COMING AROUND THE CURVE AND I JUST MISSED HITTING IT. THE DRIVER WAS NICE ENOUGH TO STOP AND GOT MY CAR BACK IN THE DRIVEWAY. HE TOLD ME TO LOOK ON THE DASHBOARD, AND I SAW THE 'POWER STEERING' LIGHT LIT. I WAS EXTREMELY SHAKEN UP BY THIS INCIDENT AND CALLED MY DEALER, LOU BACHRODT CHEVROLET IN POMPANO BEACH. THIS WAS A SUNDAY AND THE SERVICE DEPT. WAS CLOSED. I SPOKE WITH A SALESMAN, ALEX, WHO LEFT A MESSAGE FOR JEREMY IN THE SERVICE DEPT. I SPOKE WITH JEREMY EARLY MONDAY MORNING AND EXPLAINED TO HIM WHAT HAPPENED. I TOLD HIM MY HUSBAND DROVE THE CAR WHEN HE CAME HOME FROM WORK AND THE LIGHT WAS NOT ON AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING. JEREMY SAID IT'S BECOMING A COMMON PROBLEM CALLED INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE. HE CHECKED MY VIN NUMBER AND SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL. I AM VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR SINCE JEREMY SAID THERE'S A VERY GOOD CHANCE THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. HE SAID IT'S A MOTOR PROBLEM AND HAS TO BE REPAIRED. I AM NOT PAYING FOR YET ANOTHER CHEVY PROBLEM. I HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED LAST YEAR. THIS CAR IS MY TRANSPORTATION FOR WORK. GM NEEDS TO STEP UP AND DO THE RIGHT THING AND RECALL ALL COBALTS FOR THIS PROBLEM. THAT DAY I SENT AN EMAIL TO GM, BUT HAVE HEARD NOTHING.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, WHEN A WARNING SIGNAL WENT OFF ON MY CAR, A MESSAGE CAME UP THAT SAID "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" AND MY CARS ACCELERATION WAS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED. I COULD NOT GO OVER 10 MILES AN HOUR AND THE CAR WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION THAT I WAS LUCKILY CLOSE TO, AND THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN PARK, ALMOST CAUSING ME TO HIT THE BUILDING DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF MY PARKING SPOT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR MINUTE, ONLY TO TURN IT BACK ON AND HAVE IT ACT COMPLETELY NORMAL. I HAVE HAD 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS LOOK AT IT, AND SEVERAL THINGS REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. MY CAR CANNOT GO MORE THAN 10 MINUTES WITHOUT HAVING THIS ISSUE, AND THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND IT ALMOST KILLED ME AND THE PERSON BEHIND ME. I HAVE READ THE CHEVY FORUMS AND COMPLAINS AND I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THIS ISSUE. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE THE CAR AS I HAVE TO GET TO AND FROM WORK IN ORDER TO LIVE, WHILE THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR. SOMEONE. FUEL LINES ARE CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT THEY ARE LEAKING. FUEL/GAS ODOR CAN BE DETECTED AROUND VEHICLE.
THE FUEL LINES WERE LEAKING. APPARENTLY THERE ARE TWO FUEL LINES WRAPPED IN AN ENCASEMENT WITH A VENT TUBE. THE CAR ONLY HAD ABOUT 78,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS HAZARD WAS DISCOVERED. IT IS ONLY A 2007, BUT THE FUEL LINES ARE NOT MADE WELL AT ALL. BECAUSE THEY ARE IN THAT ENCASEMENT WITH THE VENT THEY RUST QUICKLY. IT CAUSED A VERY STRONG ODOR, AND GAS WAS VISIBLY LEAKING OUT OF THE BACK END OF THE CAR. THE DRIVER HAD HEADACHES EVERY TIME AFTER DRIVING THE CAR. THE CAR WAS BARELY STARTING AS WELL. AFTER PUTTING THE KEY IN AND TURNING IT, IT WOULD TAKE AWHILE BEFORE THE CAR ACTUALLY STARTED. THE DRIVER TOOK IT INTO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED THINKING IT WAS THE CRACKED FUEL TANK INLET CONTROL VALVE SPECIAL SERVICE PROBLEM THAT HAD JUST BEEN ISSUED IN AUGUST 2015. THAT WOULD HAVE MEANT IT WOULD BE FIXED WITH NO CHARGE TO THE DRIVER. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS NEITHER RELATED TO THAT ISSUE NOR TO ANOTHER SPECIAL SERVICE ISSUE DEALING WITH LEAKING GAS THAT THE DRIVER HAD ALREADY GOTTEN FIXED IN APRIL 2014. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS INSTEAD RELATED TO THE FUEL LINES RUSTING. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING AND THAT IT WOULD COST AT LEAST $659.38 TO GET IT FIXED. THE DRIVER EVENTUALLY GOT IT FIXED SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR $250 LESS. IN THE MEANTIME THE DRIVER CONTINUED TO GET HEADACHES AND FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING THE CAR. THE DRIVER KNOWS OF OTHER CHEVY COBALTS WITH THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE. IT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO FURTHER BEFORE A SERIOUS INCIDENT OCCURS. CHEVROLET SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS IMMEDIATELY AND PAY FOR IT TO BE FIXED ON THESE NEW 2007 CARS!
WHEN BRAKING, THE TIRES BOUNCE CAUSING A SERIOUS VIBRATION WHICH MAKES STEERING DIFFICULT WHEN BRAKING HARD. THERE IS NO VISIBLE DAMAGE OR LOSE SUSPENSION PARTS BUT I'M GUESSING IT'S EITHER BAD STRUTS OR CONTROL ARMS? I'M REPLACING THE PARTS TODAY AS A GUESS AND HOPE IT FIXES THE ISSUE. TOOK IT CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND NO RESOLUTION. MY CAR ALSO LOST POWER STEERING BRIEFLY AFTER ONLY DRIVING ABOUT 15 MINUTES.

SE LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY STRONG GAS ODOR IN CABIN AND SURROUNDING VEHICLE. PARKED VEHICLE. NEXT DAY STRONG FUEL ODOR SURROUNDING VEHICLE. INVESTIGATION FOUND GAS LEAKING ON GROUND UNDER FUEL TANK. TOOK TO MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED BOTH PLASTIC SUPPLY AND RETURN PORTS ON FUEL PUMP CRACKED. HAD TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP. ($467). RESEARCH FOUND 2 RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM 10/29/2009 AND 9/19/2012 NEITHER OF WHICH COVERED VEHICLES IN NORTH CAROLINA. THE 2012 RECALL DID EXPAND INTO NC AND SURROUNDING STATES BUT FOR 2006 MODEL VEHICLES NOT 2007. NHTSA # 12V459000 (09) AND # 09V419000 (12) IT IS MY CONTENTION GM SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED ALL STATES IN THESE RECALLS OR HAVE A REIMBURSEMENT PLAN IN EFFECT IF THIS PROBLEM OCCURS IN AREAS NOT COVERED. TWO SEPARATE RECALLS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM CLEARLY INDICATES GM WAS AWARE OF THE CRACKING PORTS ON THE FUEL PUMP. (I WOULD APPRECIATE A REIMBURSEMENT) IN A SEPARATE, YET VERY CLOSELY RELATED ISSUE, I NOW HAVE A LETTER DATED AUGUST 2015 ABOUT A CRACKED FUEL TANK CONTROL VALVE. VEHICLES THAT HAVE HAD TANK REMOVAL PROCEDURES (REPLACE FUEL PUMP JULY) ARE "ESPECIALLY AT RISK" FOR THIS CONDITION. SE LIGHT IS BACK ON, SLIGHT HINT OF GAS FUMES, AND ERRATIC ENGINE PERFORMANCE ESPECIALLY AFTER REFUELING. I NOW HAVE TO FOLLOW UP ON THIS GAS TANK ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. AT TIMES IT COULD BE RE-STARTED AND AT TIMES IT HAD TO BE TOWED FOR REPAIR. MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS AND LOCAL MECHANICS ATTEMPTED NUMEROUS REPAIRS BUT COULD NOT LOCATE PROBLEM. AFTER YEARS OF UNSAFE DRIVING THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED. THE PROBLEM WAS DESCRIBED IN SERVICE BULLETIN 07-06-04-0190 ELECTRICAL INTERMITTENT REDUCED POWER DATED 6/28/2011. THE DEALERSHIPS COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM BUT MY LOCAL MECHANIC FINALLY DID. IN OUR SMALL VILLAGE HE HAS SINCE REPAIRED NUMEROUS COBALTS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I ASKED HIM IF A RECALL WOULD BE ISSUED AND HE SAID NOT UNTIL A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF PEOPLE DIE AS A RESULT AND THE PROBLEM COULD BE PINPOINTED. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. IT TOOK ALMOST TWO YEARS OF UNSAFE DRIVING BEFORE THE PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED AND REPAIRED.
A PLASTIC COMPONENT IN THE FUEL RETURN CRACKED CAUSING A GAS LEAK THAT WAS UNRECOGNIZABLE AT FIRST. FIRST NOTICED THE SCENT A WEEK AFTER ADOPTING A CAT AND ASSUMED IT MUST HAVE PEED IN THE CAR OR SOMETHING. AT FIRST, ONLY NOTICED IT AFTER DRIVING MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES AND PARKING THE CAR. WHEN THE CAR WAS LEFT IN PARK OVERNIGHT, IT WOULD NOT SMELL IN THE MORNING, HOWEVER ONCE IT WAS DRIVEN ANY DISTANCE, THE SMELL WOULD BECOME APPARENT BY THE TIME THE TRIP WAS DONE. THE SMELL WAS FAINT AND SEEMED TO COME FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR, BUT WAS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO BE NARROWED DOWN MORE THAN THAT. EVENTUALLY THE SCENT WAS STRONG ENOUGH THAT IT COULD BE RECOGNIZED AS GASOLINE AND BY THAT TIME IT WAS CLEAR THAT IT WAS COMING FROM BEHIND THE PASSENGER SEAT. UPON LIFTING THE BACK END TO LOOK AT THE CAR, THE UNDERSIDE WAS WET WITH GASOLINE AND THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK COULD BE ISOLATED TO THE TOP OF THE TANK. TOOK IT IN TO BE CHECKED AND FIXED TO FIND OUT IT WAS A CRACK IN A PLASTIC COMPONENT OF THE FUEL RETURN AND THE WAY THE COMPONENT IS DESIGNED, THE ENTIRE FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM GM ABOUT POTENTIAL FUEL LEAKS AND SUBMITTED MY INFORMATION ONLY TO LEARN THAT THE CURRENT BULLETIN PERTAINS TO THE FUEL TANK ITSELF AND ALL OTHER SERVICE BULLETINS RELATED TO THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE ARE FOR DIFFERENT CAR BATCHES SOLD MOSTLY TO WARMER CLIMATE STATES SO GM WILL NOT REIMBURSE FOR THE REPAIR.

IN JUNE 2015, WE SMELLED FUEL UNDER CAR. THE NEXT DAY WE TOOK THE CAR IMMEDIATELY TO OUR MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AT A COST OF $531.85. IN AUGUST OF 2015, WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET THAT INDICATED OUR COBALT MAY HAVE A CRACKED FUEL TANK INLET CONTROL VALVE. THE LETTER SAID THAT THE VEHICLE MAY EMIT A STRONG FUEL ODOR FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHICH IS WHAT WE DETECTED. THE LETTER INDICATED WE COULD BE REIMBURSED IF WE SUBMITTED THE REQUESTED DOCUMENTS IF WE ALREADY HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. I SUBMITTED ALL DOCUMENTS TO OUR LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER BUT WAS DENIED REIMBURSEMENT.
