Failed catalyst converter due to hot exhaust overload.. cracked ceramic lining in catalyst.
The turbo breaks on all of these cars. Mine caused damage to my transmission and I have spent two months trying to get it working but all of the turbos for sale or broken or break. Now I believe it has caused damage to the converter as the car consistently drops out of high gears and then revs at over 5000 RPMs refusing to upshift. I live in an area with hilly freeways and I have almost been in two accidents because my car can't go over 50 MPH uphill and that's if I was going faster before getting to the incline. If every turbo on this car breaks, causing these issues, why has there not been a recall? This is dangerous to everyone with these cars. Chevy needs to take responsibility to fix this issue.
Vehicle has a faulty catalytic converters had the check engine light on got it tested the p0420 code issued.
I purchased a used as is 2014 Chevy Cruze with 141000 miles on April 4th 2022. I had been well pleased with the car up until the linkage for the automatic transmission became defective on May 5th 2022. It would not go into any gear. So I opened up the hood and immediately Identified the problem, someone had used zip ties to secure the linkage to the transmission linkage. I called my local auto parts store and they had the proper repair kit for it. I replaced all the missing parts with new ones. Now the vehicle will not go into any forward drive gear. It will however go into reverse. My research on you tube that other mechanics have posted lead me to believe that either the transmission is low on transmission fluid, or the fuse could be blown, or the TCM (Transmission Control Module) is defective. Several authorized dealerships have reported this issue to GM, however GM denies that the transmission they used for the 2008 through 2014 has had any issues, although several forums and dealerships have reported differently. MAN UP GM and fix your foul up!
Vehicle sensor corroded draining battery and stranding my pregnant wife in the winter until I could get to her. Key was stuck in the ignition. This can't happen with a child in the car and it freezing to death outside.
Power flickering and multiple errors lit up on dashboard including loss of stability control. Radio kept flashing on and off. Would show back up when pressed brake or regular car in motion. -- Looked up online and appears to be known negative battery cable --- which doesn't show on NHTSA recalls or errors to look out for.
The radio started to turn on and off and while that was happening it became difficult to steer. The message on the dashboard read "Service Stabilitrak".
Back seat belt came complete undone from the sewn portion of the lock. Very little pull force released the locked belt. Buckle stayed in tact/locked, but the sewn part seems to have been glued, and not sewn securely. Serious danger to backseat passengers.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated she became aware that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, no failure was found. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to another dealer and catalytic converters were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The catalytic converters were replaced a second time however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 60,000.
I have a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, and when I turn the ignition off it sounds like it's trying to start on it's own. It also has a faulty catalytic converter.
The hose that carries the coolant constantly pops off and leaks coolant. I had it fixed in 2019 at a dealership when it first happened. It started happening again last year and it will over heat. A light in my car comes on saying things are shutting down in order to cool the vehicle. I cant afford to keep fixing it. I don't know why it keeps happening.
When parked and left to idle after driving for a while, the traction light comes on and the dash displays service StabiliTrak and traction control. After this happens the car seems to lose power and sometimes feels as if the breaks are catching and letting go.
In the steering column it’s really hot where you connect to make a call and where you turn on cruse control. This part of the steering column should not be hot.
The touch screen radio unit has totally failed. Without this system, I cannot hear the directional signals or view the backup camera. No aftermarket modifications were made on this or related parts. This car is eight years old and has been maintained according to the manufacturer's service schedule.
At [XXX] am on [XXX] the alarm sounded on my car that was parked beside my front porch. I was confused ; as I never locked my car and did not understand why my alarm would be going off. I opened the front door and the front of the car and underneath the engine was in flames. It was burning under the hood and burning and sparking behind the passenger side front tire It was very close to my home so I woke my son and we grabbed a few belongings and went out the back door. I was sure the fire would consume my car and our home. I immediately called 911 and the local fire department arrived and put it out but not before the windshield and all the tires exploded. This could have been deadly. There is absolutely no reason for my car to catch on fire. The police dept was notified and they reached out to me asking if I had full coverage insurance on my car that had burned. Unfortunately I did not. The car was paid for and I had liability insurance so I totally lost my car for an unknown reason. I looked for recalls , I called the Chevrolet company and asked if they could do an investigation but no they did not. There are recalls on earlier models of this car for combustion fires but not this model year. I wanted to sue the company as this was very traumatic and if this car had been in the garage it would have been a terrible disaster. I did not have time or money to spend on a lawsuit at the time I am writing this now because this needs to be on a public forum for other owners of this make and model car. I have lost trust in the Chevrolet company and will never ever buy another GM product. Two years later I still have no answers and nobody seemed to care that my car caught on fire for no reason in the early morning hours while we were sleeping during a rainy cold February morning and had not been driven since 9 pm the night before. Thank you INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Coolant system constantly leaking on thermostat housing, water pump and hoses. I’ve had it repaired 4 times!!
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that the instrument cluster was melting. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, and the contact was made aware there were no recalls associated with the VIN. The vehicle had not yet been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000. The contact stated that the material of the dashboard is melting and has become sticky. They have tried to clean it using soap and water but that does not work. The vehicle has been in the garage since purchasing.
While driving check engine light came on and car start losing power and not shifting correctly being close to home attempted to baby vehicle home. Car started to make strange noise immediately pulled over and shut car off. Had car towed to personal mechanic. The turbo has blown apart
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The traction control and check engine warning lights along with various codes were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact self-diagnosed the vehicle with a cylinder misfire. The contact replaced the ignition coil pack and four spark plugs; however, the failure recurred. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with a code to provide to a dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
The heater blend door actuator and or lever gear for the blend door actuator that controls the windshield defrost failed and this raises a major safety concern as it strictly limits your visibility. This is becoming a known issue on the Cruze as i have seen and heard of the problem repeatedly online in the cruze forums. This needs to be seriously addressed to general motors and be taken care of. Plus the cost to fix it is over $1,300.00 as the entire dash needs to come out. Please address this safety concern.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer for an oil change however, upon return of the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact's son called the dealer and made an appointment to have the vehicle serviced. The contact informed her son that she would be charged a diagnostic fee and the contact canceled the appointment. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where they discovered a coolant leak related to a defective water pump. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 33,047.
We have discovered a known issue with the pistons cracking. Seems this issue has impacted a huge number of people. We are now left with an unuseable vehicle that requires 8k in repairs. There are tons of articles and complaints about this issue. Chevrolet must repair or reimburse all those that have been impacted.
The car suddenly lacked power and was making a strange noise. The oil level suddenly dropped. Then the engine light came on. We took the car to the dealer. And a few days later we received a letter from Chevrolet about extending the warranty on the PCV valve due to failure. We contacted our personal service person who confirmed that was inline with the PCV failure. We then took it to the Chevrolet dealer who said it would cost 9k to repair despite it being a known issue. This could have resulted in an accident if we had not caught it.
My 2014 Cruze has 55600 miles and started to make a ticking noise oil was checked no problem however there was no antifreeze/coolant so I added it. Less than a week later again I had NO antifreeze/coolant I saw that Chevy had a recall on some 2013 & 2014 chevy cruze’s head gasket. My VIN isn’t coming up. I feel after babying my car and servicing her religiously that the issue is the responsibility of the manufacturer.
I have a code p0420 code and engine light keeps comeback on I had the catalytic converter replaced, and everything inspected by Friendship Chevrolet in Forestcity NC 28043. Kept my car for two weeks and still couldn’t find the problem of this p0420 code so my engine light stays on.
I was in a collision and zero airbags deployed. I was hit T-bone style at an intersection.
I purchased this chevrolet cruze2014 in 2021 of november now I have an unsafe vehicle I have took it to have it looked at and now they want me to pay 1,600 for damages that I have not created tension belts and assembly problem and an oil pan that is cracked this also have struts and other suspension problems that need to be address I will like to see if their is any way to have this problem taken care of so that it is not all on me I don't feel like getting into a dangerous car and kill myself or other people please help me my name is [XXX] phone number is [XXX] so that I may get these problems fix so I can have a decent car I purchased it from American car center and now they are giving me problems on fixing this car that they sold me with these problems INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
My radio was getting hot all the time I had a touch screen the dash would get hot and the glove box on top got hot. The sides of consoles would get hot to. I think my car had no engine shield it only happen when my car was running other ppl with 2014 cruzes say the samething.
The contact owned a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while driving 62 mph when the contact noticed other drivers flashing their lights, therefore, they decided to pull over to the side of the road. When they pulled over they noticed that there was smoke coming through the vents of the vehicle. The vehicle's touchscreen on the dashboard that controls the radio as well as a few other functions went blank and the actual physical rubber parts of the screen began to melt. The contact turned off the vehicle and got out of the vehicle when the vehicle suddenly caught on actual fire. The fire department extinguished what was left of the fire after the contact's efforts. A police report was filed. The contact had received a burn to their arm. There was no medical attention needed. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. The contact had not spoken to the dealership. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 148,000.
When the car is stopped, the brakes and in Drive or Reverse, the engine jumps-hiccup. The car move slightly forward every time. It has no check-engine light or code. The mechanics all said it could be a manufacturer defect. It happens mostly in the morning. Most of the time it works properly. The car has 45,000 miles. Also the belt tensioner has been raplaced two times in a month, Is still giving issues.
My vehicle takes too long to accelerate. The engine light came on. When checked the code that came up was the turbo.
I took my car into King Chevrolet last year around August. The car was overheating and the fan was running almost all the time. When they ran the diagnoses which I was charged 100 dollars for, they told me I had a loose plug. About 1 month after that, it started doing it again. I called the service department and was told I should get rid of the car as they are not that good of a vehicle by the service tech. I found the thermostat was broken and replaced it. It helped for a while then I noticed the check engine light and it was code p0420 which stated it was a bad catalytic converter. I noticed a recall in 2018 by GM, recall # 16186. I called them today and they said my car was not affected. It did affect 2014 chevy cruze according to the recall. They wanted me to bring it in to have it diagnosed again for 100 dollars. I have have the valve cover replaced twice as the pvc valve was defective. The car has 116,000 miles now and it had 96,000 when this started happening. I would like to know if they are telling the truth, or just trying to soak me for repairs.
Several times the steering wheel mechanism locked up while driving and I was unable to steer it momentarily. During that time several warning lamp indicators intermittently illuminated, and the radio shorted, and the instrument panel flashed or blacked out. Also, there is a coolant leak. I have the vehicle at the dealership repair center and they haven’t reproduced the above problems, but did find a problem with a engine coolant leak from the water pump and a radiator hose in which they are repairing.
The car keeps overheating and it has been to the mechanic multiple times and the problem exist. If I get on the highway my transmission hot engine idle light comes on. I have had a transmission replaced and a lot of other things repaired and the issue continues
Water pump constantly leaking through seap hole weather or not u get a new water pump or not can't get it to stop leaking .ac cut off due to heat engine .it will not stop dripping i have changed water pumps 3 times and it never has stopped dripping this has costed us alot of money and time if ww only new this we would have bought something else.we have been through 2 computers ecm ans a motor replaced this thing has been in the shop every year since we had this car once for 9 months
Air bags did not deploy in a serious wreck, also with the seat belts not properly securing. First week I bought it. It shut off on the interstate because it was overheating. Ac compressor was broke so it got replace. The fan motor does not spin right. When my air/heater is on my engine make a LOUD noise (since the day I bought it). Cooling system has been replaced 4 times. Overall terrible car and everything needs to be recalled on it. Not safe to drive.
Vehicle overheated, oil and coolant mixing in. The mentioned vehicle may stall on the road causing traffic hazard to its occupants, and the driving public around it. The engine oil is visibly mixing in with the engine coolant at this point. The temperature gage showed higher than normal level, then steam/smoke came out of the engine compartment as oil and coolant spew out of the closed coolant tank.
Unknown, all I am aware of is that a large rock was on the highway and the vehicle infront of me kicked it up, and then my own tires kicked it up and caused issues with the catalytic converter.
Turbochargers are very known to go out or lag, causing vehicle to not go be able to up to speed , or suddenly drop speed on highway.
The contact's daughter owns a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that his daughter called him while at a stoplight to inform him that the vehicle lost power steering without warning. The contact informed his daughter to restart the vehicle while at the stoplight and to park the vehicle so that he could meet her. The contact arrived at the scene to inspect the vehicle and found no fault with the vehicle. The contact followed his daughter to her destination without further incident. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The contact was also informed that a representative would call him for further assistance. The contact received a call back from a representative who left a message asking how he would like to resolve the matter. The contact had yet to respond to the manufacturer. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V442000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.
This morning, I was making a right turn into a neighborhood when I hit a small hole in the road and the car turned off. It alerted me that it was power steering and airbags. Now when I drive into my driveway it may turn off because of the curb, when I turn into work it may turn off because there is a small area where the road has small holes.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle lost motive power without warning. The contact attempted to steer the vehicle to the shoulder of the highway but was unsuccessful. A fellow motorist assisted the contact in successfully moving the vehicle off the highway and onto the shoulder. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic and the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
Vehicle moves very slow because of turbo failure with a four cylinder.
WINDSHIELD LINKAGE FAILS WHILE IN USE( DRIVING IN RAINSTORM) LEAVING DRIVER WITH NO WIPERS ON DRIVERS SIDE
THE DRIVERS SIDE WIPER WOULD NOT WORK WHEN STARTED TODAY WHILE IT WAS RAINING WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. I TOOK THE COVER OFF OF THE ESCUTCHEON ABOVE THE WIPERS TO SEE WHY THE ARM WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN BY THE MOTOR. THE ARM MOVED FREELY BACK AND FORTH ON THE WINDSHIELD. THE SHORT ARM FROM THE WIPER MOTOR TO THE DRIVE PLATE FOR THE WIPER WAS OFF. THE ARM WOULD NOT SNAP BACK IN PLACE. IT APPEARS THAT THE PLASTIC KNUCKLE HAS FAILED. WHEN SEARCHING FOR WIPER FAILURES IN THE CRUZE MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS WERE FOR THIS IDENTICAL FAILURE. MANY OWNERS WERE DRIVING ON THE ROAD WHEN IT FAILED AND I WAS FORTUNATE THAT IT FAILED BEFORE I LEFT FOR WORK AS IT WOULD HAVE FAILED WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. THERE ARE NO RECALLS LISTED FOR THIS DEFECTIVE PART. SINCE IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE I DETERMINED IT IS BEST TO MAKE THIS FORMAL COMPLAINT. THE PART NUMBER FOR THE WIPER LINKAGE IS 95971326 AND THIS IS WHAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE ATTACHED PHOTOS SHOW THE ARM OFF IN #1 AND #3 WHILE #2 SHOWS THE POSITION WHERE IT IS NORMALLY.
HEAD GASKET BLOWN LOSING COOLANT
WHEN PARKING THE CAR AND SHIFTING THE GEAR SELECTOR TO THE P POSITION, THE VEHICLE FAILS TO RECOGNIZE THE CAR IS IN PARK - AN ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS THAT STATES 'SHIFT TO PARK'. THE CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF AS IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE CAR IS IN PARK. I HAVE HAD NO CHOICE, BUT TO LEAVE THE CAR RUNNING WHILE I WENT INTO WORK SINCE IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO TURN IT OFF. ALSO, WHEN THIS HAPPENS I CANNOT PARK THE CAR IN MY GARAGE AS THE EXHAUST FUMES FILL THE GARAGE. THE PROBLEM IS SPORADIC AND HAPPENS ABOUT 70% OF THE TIME THAT I DRIVE THE CAR.
THIS HAS OCCUR MORE THAN A HANDFUL OF TIMES. THIS IS THE MOST RECENT ONE, I STOPPED AT THE GAS STATION TURNED OFF MY CAR AND WHEN I WENT TO START IT NOTHING WAS WORKING NO LIGHTS, NO POWER ANYWHERE. I WIGGLED THE BATTERY CABLE AND IT CAME BACK ON BUT, I HAD TO TURN THE KEY ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES FOR IT TO FINALLY START. AS I'M LEAVING THE GAS STATION I TURN TO THE LEFT AND I HAVE NO POWER STEERING NONE WHATSOEVER. THEN IT CAME BACK SECONDS LATER I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AND THE WHEEL JERKED ON ITS ON AND IT SAID SERVICE POWER STEERING AND ONCE AGAIN I HAD NO POWER STEERING. IT WENT OFF MOMENTS LATER. WHEN I GOT TO MY DESTINATION IT LOST ALL POWER AGAIN.
I REPLACED THE ENGINE ALREADY WITHIN AN YEAR OF HAVING IT AND NOW MY TURBO BLEW AND MY HEAD GASKET BLEW AS WELL
STABILTRAK SERVICE WARNING, RADIO SCREEN TURNING ON AND OFF AS WELL AS MUTING OF TURN SIGNAL ALL AT THE SAME TIME. HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. NEW BATTERY IN 2020.
