IN THE GAS TANK MAY HAVE SEPARATED AND ADVISED US TO RETURN VEHICLE WITH EMPTY FUEL TANK SO THAT IT COULD BE REMOVED AND EXAMINED. *AK
PE 00005; WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED UNEXPECTEDLY, AND WOULD NOT START FOR 15 MINUTES, WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING OIL EXCESSIVELY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. *YH
DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE AT 40 MPH AND RAN INTO TELEPHONE POST HEAD-ON. UPON IMPACT, DUAL AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, CAUSING BRUISES. SEATBELTS WERE WORN AT THE TIME. NO PRIOR WARNING OF DEFECT. *AK

ON ANY INCLINE VEHICLE WILL ROLL BACK WHEN TAKING FOOT OFF BRAKE TO THROTTLE. CONSUMER SPOKE TO DEALER WHO SAID THAT FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES DO THAT. CONSUMER CONTACTED MANUFACTURER, AND REPRESENTATIVE CHECKED OUT THE COMPLAINT, AND STATED THAT IT SEEMED TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT. *AK *ML
THE ALUMINUM SUBFRAME HAS TWO BRACKETS THAT NEED TO BE WELDED ACCORDING TO CHEVROLET. THE ALUMINUM SUBFRAME "FLEXES" CAUSING A CLICKING SOUND WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED TO THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT. CHEVROLET ADVISED THE DEALER TO WELD THE TWO BRACKETS AND THAT SHOULD QUIET THE NOISE. CHEVROLET SAID THAT THERE ARE NO SAFETY BULLETINS ON THIS ISSUE. *AK
THE VEHICLE WILL FREELY ROLL BACKWARDS OR FORWARD WHEN FOOT IS REMOVED FROM BRAKE AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN A DRIVE GEAR. EVEN SLIGHT INCLINES WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ROLL, BUT A STEEP INCLINE CAN BECOME A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, SINCE THE CAR WILL FREELY ROLL, EXACTLY THE SAME WAY A VEHICLE WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION WOULD ROLL WHEN TAKEN OUT OF GEAR. UNFORTUNATELY, DRIVERS WHO USE AUTOMATICS EXPECT THE TRANSMISSION TO HOLD THE VEHICLE, AT LEAST PARTIALLY, WHEN ON AN INCLINE. IT IS TYPICAL TO USE ONE FOOT TO MOVE FROM THE BRAKE TO THE THROTTLE, BUT ON STEEP INCLINES, THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL SO QUICKLY THAT USING TWO FEET IS OFTEN NECESSARY (ONE FOR BRAKE, ONE FOR THROTTLE) WHEN MOVING OFF A STOP. OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUES ARE: VEHICLE ROLLING INTO SOMEONE, VEHICLE ROLLING INTO AN OBJECT OR ANOTHER VEHICLE, UNNECESSARY AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, AND DRIVER DISORIENTATION RESULTING FROM THE EQUIPMENT NOT WORKING AS EXPECTED, WITH POSSIBLE RESULTING ACCIDENT. DEALER SAYS THIS CONDITION IS CONSIDERED NORMAL, BUT I HAVE DRIVEN MANY VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS AND HAVE NEVER HAD ONE RESPOND IN THIS MANNER, AT LEAST TO THIS DEGREE. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS ACTUALLY A DESIGN DEFECT, AND AT THE VERY LEAST, GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD INFORM BUYERS THAT THESE VEHICLES RESPOND DIFFERENTLY THAN OTHERS. ONE REASON WHY I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IS FOR ITS SAFETY TEST RESULTS, BUT THIS PROBLEM MAKES ME CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE IS ACTUALLY UNSAFE FOR MY WIFE TO DRIVE UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES--SHE HAS ALREADY TOLD ME THAT SHE WILL NOT DRIVE IN DOWNTOWN SEATTLE (STEEP STREETS) WITH THE VEHICLE. SHE IS NOT A HIGHLY SKILLED DRIVER, AND OPERATING THE CAR ON INCLINES WITHOUT EXERCISING EXTRA CAUTION, OR USING TWO FEET (WHICH REQUIRES ADDITIONAL SKILL) COULD EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. ENGINE/TRANS PARTIAL FAILURE, ALMOST STALLING IN INTERSECTION. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAD SYSTEM MANAGMENT LIGHTING IN DASH FLASHING FOR NO REASON. REPLACMENT OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ACTUALLY WORSENED UNCOMMANDED LIGHT FLASHING. INITIAL REPAIR OF ENGINE PROBLEMS DIMINISHED SEVERITY OF STALLING, HOWEVER DID NOT COMPLETELY CORRECT THE PROBLEM. UNABLE TO DUPLICATE STALLING ON A CONSISTANT BASIS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING REAR SIDE WINDOW GETS FOGGY WITHOUT A REASON, AND CONSUMER IS CONCERNED ABOUT THIS SITUATION. *AK
WHEN PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE OR BACKING OUT OF GARAGE CAN FEEL GASOLINE MOVING BACK AND FORTH IN THE FUEL TANK. ALSO, WHEN ENTERING THE TRUNK OR LEANING AGAINST THE VEHICLE CAN FEEL GASOLINE MOVING BACK AND FORTH. CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND DEALER CHANGED FUEL TANK. THE REPLACEMENT TANK HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE ORIGINAL. *AK *ML
TRANSMISSION LINE BROKE AND POURED FLUID ALL OVER ROAD, MAKING THE CAR LOSE POWER . THE ENGINE WAS REVVING BUT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT ENGAGING.*AK
DEALER ADVISED THAT WHEN VEHICLE WAS BUILT THE CENTER SUPPORT BEARING IN THE TRANSMISSION WAS PUT IN BACKWARDS CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. I AM VERY UPSET THAT ALL THE DEALER SEEMS TO WANT TO DO IS REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. *AK
THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS IDLING IN "PARK". THE ENGINE DIED AND I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE CAR. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE SUGGESTED I WAIT 10 MIN. AND RESTART. IT DID BUT IT DIED AGAIN AFTER 2 MIN. CHEVEROLET DEALER WORK ORDER DESCRIBED PROBLEM AS FOLLOWS "EXCESSIVE CURRENT LOAD FROM FUEL PUMP BURNED WIRE TERMINAL AT IGNITION BLOCK. REPAIRED BURNED WIRE TERMINAL AND REPLACED FUEL PUMP".
CAR WAS IDLING IN "PARK" WHEN INCIDENT OCCURRED. DEALER'S WORK ORDER STATES "EXCESSIVE CURRENT LOAD FROM FUEL PUMP BURNED WIRE TERMINAL AT IGNITION BLOCK. REPAIRED BURNED WIRE TERMINAL AND REPLACED FUEL PUMP". SINCE FUEL PUMP IS LOCATED IN GAS TANK, ANY ELECTRICAL FAILURE OF THIS PART COULD CAUSE A MAJOR FIRE. *AK
THE CAR MAKES A POPPING (IN THE STRUCTURE) SOUND UPON STOPPING, STARTING AND TURNING CORNERS VERY LOAD, ANNOYING, AND FREQUENT. *AK

DRIVER'S SEAT ADJUSTERS RELEASE WHILE DRIVING AND THE SEAT GOES ALL THE WAY BACKWARDS. TEMPERARY LOSS OF CONTROL BECAUSE PEDALS CANNOT BE REACHED. INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 10 TIMES AND AT ALL SPEEDS ENCLUDING WHEN ONE IS SAFELY COMING TO A STOP. DRIVER IS SUDDENLY THROWN BACKWARDS WHEN SEAT CUSHION TRACT ADJUSTER FAILS. WHEN TRYING TO PARK AND DRIVER TURNS TO LOOK OUT OF BACK WINDOW THE SEAT SLIDES ALL THE WAY BACK JUST BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT SHIFT OF THE DRIVER. WHEN IN MOTION AND THIS HAPPENS THE CAR VEERS OUT OF CONTROL UNTIL DRIVER CAN REGAIN CONTROL AGAIN. THE TEMPORARY OUT OF CONTROL SITUATION IS DUE TO DRIVER NOT BEING ABLE TO REACH PEDALS AND THE SHOCK OF SUDDEN SEATING POSITION BEING CHANGED UNEXPECTEDLY. *AK
ON JAN.16 I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 95 WHEN DRIVER'S SEAT CUSHION CAME OUT OF ADJUSTMENT. I WAS IN THE FAST LANE AND LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE GETTING IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. 2ND INCIDENT ON JAN. 18. 3RD INCIDENT ON JAN 24. RETURNED THE CAR TO BOB BEL FOR REPAIRS. 4TH INCIDENT ON FEB 2ND. CAR WAS TOWED TO JP CHEVROLET IN ABERDEEN. THE WAY THE CAR WAS REPAIRED VIOLATES ALL SAFETY STANDARDS! I HAVE BEEN HOSPITALIZED BECAUSE OF INJURIES SUFFERED. I AM NOW BEING TREATED FOR WHIPLASH, SEVERE VERTIGO, HEARING AND VISUAL IMPAIREMENT AND BALANCE PROBLEMS. THE CAR IS STILL NOT FIXED ACCORDING TO NATIONAL SAFETY STANDARDS. BAILING WIRE HAS BEEN USED BY JP CHEVROLET TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP US IF YOU CAN!! *AK

AFTER CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN SEVERAL MILES, THEN SHUT OFF FOR 45 TO 60 MINUTES, UPON STARTING AND TRYING TO GET BACK ON HIGHWAY THE ENGINE WOULD HESITATE AT ABOUT 5 MPH CAR SPEED, FOR 2 OR 3 SECONDS, WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL PUSHED TRYING TO SPEED UP, THE ENGINE WOULD FINALLY CATCH UP TO THE GAS PEDAL SETTING AND SPIN THE TIRES. THIS HAPPENED 4 TIMES ONE DAY. FOUR VISITS TO THE DEALER DIDN'T HELP. SINCE ONE CHEVY DEALER REPLACED A CONTROL ON THE TRANSMISSION, THE ENGINE HAS HESITATED GOING AROUND A CORNER AT 20 MPH. THREE OTHER TIMES IT HESITATED WHEN I TRIED TO LEAVE NY DRIVEWAY.*AK
FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THERE WAS A FIRE IN THE DASH AREA. HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO PUT OUT MOST OF THE FIRE UNTIL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED. FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE FIRE APPEARED TO BE ELECTRICAL. OWNER NOT SURE WHAT WILL BE DONE WITH THE VEHICLE. *AK

IMPALA CONTROL COMPUTER - UPON TRACTION CONTROL ACTIVATION (WHEEL SLIP), CONTROL COMPUTER ACTIVATES SECURITY SYSTEM WHICH KILLS ENGINE AND PREVENTS IT FROM BEING RESTARTED. MYSELF AND MY THREE CHILDREN WERE ALMOST KILLED BY A PASSING TRUCK WHEN WE HAD TO LEAVE VEHICLE TO SEEK ASSISTANCE. DEALER REPLACED COMPUTER, HOWEVER, FIRMWARE RELEASE IS LIKELY PROBLEM.
PAINT IS PEELING OFF OF FRONT BUMPER AND GRILL HAS BEEN PAINTED 4 TIMES AND IS STILL PEELING OFF/ REPLACED 4 INJECTORS AND MODULE/ HAD TO HAVE FRONT AND REAR END ALIGNED/ HAD TO BUY 4 NEW TIRES/ CAR WON'T HOLD ON INCLINE/ CAN HEAR GAS SLOUCH IN GAS TANK/HAS A POPPING IN THE FRONT END/
VEHICLE HAD A SLIGHT INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH CUTTING OFF WHEN IT WAS COLD OUTSIDE. DEALER SAID IT COULD BE THERE WASN'T ENOUGH OXYGEN GETTING INTO THE FUEL.ALSO, SOMETHING SEEMED TO BE WRONG WITH SUSPENSION THAT IT ROCKED BACK & FORTH WHEN YOU APPLYING BRAKES & STARTING TO GO UP A HILL. DEALER & GMC ARE BOTH SAYING THAT THE SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE SUSPENSION TORSION BAR. *AK

THE CONSUMER WAS PARKING VEHICLE, SMELLED SMOKE AND NOTICED ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. FRONT HARNESS WIRES OVERHEATED. CONSUMER LOST POWER STEERING, AND WHEN THE CONSUMER WENT TO MOVE THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF FLUID ON THE GROUND UNDER. FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME OUT AND PUT OUT THE FIRE.*AK
VEHICLE STALLS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. WITHIN 15 MINUTES VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART. TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A POOR CONNECTION, REPAIRS MADE. *AK
DESIGN OF REAR SPOILER OBSCURES VIEW OUT OF REAR WINDOW. NLM
AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS, A DISTINCTIVE VIBRATION BEGAN WHICH SEEMED TO BE LOCATED IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT END BRAKE ROTORS WERE VIBRATING ON THE WHEEL STUDS. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE HOLES IN THE ROTORS HAD BEEN MACHINED TOO LARGE FOR THE WHEEL STUDS. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THERE WAS "NO FIX AVAILABLE". THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AND BECAME WORSE. A SECOND CALL TO THE DEALER RESULTED IN THE DEALER INFORMING ME THAT THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE SPECIFIC TO IMPALAS, AND THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS HAD REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM. STILL "NO FIX AVAILABLE". I CONTACTED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHO ALSO CONFIRMED PROBLEM, BUT REFUSED TO OFFER A FIX. THE ROTORS ARE NOW SIGNIFICANTLY UNSTABLE AND IT IS AFFECTING BRAKING ACTION OF THE CAR IN AN UNSAFE MANNER. IN TOTAL, I HAVE YALKED TO CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE THREE TIMES, AND HAVE EITHER TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER OR CONTACTED THE DEALER ONCE A MONTH FOR THE ENTIRE SEVEN MONTHS I'VE OWNED THE CAR. IN SHORT, IT APPEARS THAT THE 2000 IMPALA LS HAS A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WHICH CHEVROLET SIMPLY REFUSES TO FIX. *AK

WHEN APPLYING BRAKES CAR SHIMMIES, FRONT ROTORS ARE OUT OF ROUND. WHEN USING A/C VEHICLE FILLS UP WITH FUEL SMELL, FAN MOTOR BEARING WORN, DEALER REPLACED. DASHLIGHTS ILLUMINATED. VEHICLE EXPERIENCES HARD START CONDITION, DEALER REPLACED WIRING HARNESS. CONSUMER HAS TO GIVE GAS INORDER TO STAY RUNNING, FUEL PUMP PRESURE LOW, DEALER REPLACED FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. *TT
ENGINE HESITATES AFTER CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN AND SITS FOR 45MIN. TO 1 HR. ON RESTART, TOOK TO DEALER AND OF COURSE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. HAVE HEARD OF OTHERS WITH THIS SAME TYPE OF ENGINE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. MANUFACTURER IS BOUND TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. *AK

WHEN DRIVING ON CERTAIN ROAD CONDITIONS, AT SLOWER SPEEDS, THERE IS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION. THE PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO CHEVROLET AND THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER COULD NOT CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. CHEVROLET HAS OTHER REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM. THE ABNORMAL NOISE IS A LOUD THUMP AS IF THERE IS A LOOSE PART IN THE SUSPENSION. *AK
