CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WITH NO WARNING STEERING BOLTS ARE LOOSE, AND CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO JUMP AROUND, CAUSING IT TO BE HARD TO STEER THE VEHICLE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
WHEN THE VEHICLE HIT A POT HOLE, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE 4 TIMES , HOWEVER THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED.*AK. ALSO WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP, THE BRAKES HAD TO BE RE-APPLIED IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. *TS *JB
TURN SIGNALS QUIT WORKING AND REQUIRED SERVICING BY THE DEALER. *JB

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING THE VEHICLE STALLED. *AK
LATCH PLATES ON THE REAR SEAT BELTS BROKE TWICE SINCE VEHICLE OWNERSHIP.*AK PH *JB THE FEATURE WAS A SLIDING LOCK BAR BUILT INTO THE LATCH PLATE ASSEMBLY WHICH BROKE TWICE ON THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE. GM INSPECTED THE PART AND IT WAS SENT TO AN ENGINEERING FOR REVIEW. GM AGREED TO REPLACE THE LATCH PLATE AS A GOOD WILL EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS FEATURE WAS DESIGNED TO LOCK THE BELT INTO PLACE AND PREVENT A CHILD SAFETY FROM ROCKING WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED.*CB *JB
EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS. *AK
THE TURN SIGNALS AND HAZARD FLASHERS ON MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU ONLY WORK INTERMITTENTLY. OFTEN TIMES THEY WILL NOT WORK AT ALL, OR THEY WILL STOP WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN. THEY WILL FLASH ONCE OR TWICE AND QUIT WORKING; IN ADDITION, THEY WILL WORK FOR A MOMENT THEN QUIT WORKING THEN BEGIN WORKING AGAIN. ALSO, RAREST OF ALL, THEY WILL WORK FINE. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE TURN SIGNALS AND HAZARD FLASHERS FOR THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR; HOWEVER, GM HAS TOLD ME THAT IT DOES NOT COVER MY VEHICLE. OBVIOUSLY, THE PROBLEM THAT I AM EXPERIENCING IS THE SAME OR SIMILAR TO THE PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED IN COVERED VEHICLES (IF, IN FACT, MINE IS NOT A COVERED VEHICLE). THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR SEVERAL MONTHS WITHOUT AN OBVIOUS CAUSE. THERE ARE NO CONDITIONS WHICH MADE MY CAR IMMUNE FROM THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT HAPPENS LESS WHEN I RUN THE AIR CONDITIONER. *LA
INTERMITTENTLY THE TURN SIGNALS DID NOT OPERATE, CAUSING OTHER DRIVERS NOT TO BE AWARE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNING. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT TURNING SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT A RECALL WAS ISSUED BUT THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO VIN. *NM
THE HAZARD AND TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS WERE INOPERATIVE. *JB
THE ABS WARNING LIGHTS CONTINUOUSLY STAYED ON WHILE DRIVING. PRIOR TO THIS THE LIGHT WOULD FLICKER OFF AND ON. *NLM
ENGINE OVERHEATING, ALSO THE TURN SIGNALS ARE ERRATIC, WHEN THEY DO NOT WORK I HAVE TO TURN MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS ON, THEN OFF, AND THE TURN SIGNALS WORK THEN. AS FAR AS THE OVERHEATING GOES, I TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR (OVER $350.00) THEY SAID THEY FOUND WATER IN THE OIL AND REPLACED HEAD GASKET. IT STILL IS NOT FIXED. THIS CAR HAS 45,000 MILES.
CONSUMER STATES SHE IS HAVING TROUBLE WITH HER AUTO, AND EACH TIME SHE TAKES HER AUTO IN, IT IS SOMETHING DIFFERENT. SHE STATES WHILE DRIVING HER AUTO THE DASH WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, SHE TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT SHE NEEDED A MANIFOLD INTAKE VALUE. THEN LATER ON SHE BEGUN TO HEAR A SCAPING SOUND WHEN SHE APPLIES HER BRAKES, WHEN SHE TOOK IT IN THEY TOLD HER THAT SHE NEEDED FRONT ROTORS, SHE STATES THAT SHE WAS NOT TOLD THIS WHEN SHE TOOK HER AUTO IN THE FIRST TIME.

I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY MALIBU. I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY BLINKERS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE IT IN. WHEN THE BLINKERS ARE NOT WORKING I HAVE REALIZED MY HAZARD LIGHT ALSO DO NOT WORK. WE CHANGED THE FUSE AND THEY WORK FOR 3 WEEKS STRAIGHT BUT NOW I AM BACK TO ONE TURN THYE WORK THE NEXT THEY DONT.*AK
FRONT TIRES WEAR AND LOSE AIR PRESSURE PREMATURELY. *AK
THE TURN SIGNALS DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE DEALER FIXED THE PROBLEM TWICE, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *JB
MY CAR IS ONLY 3 1/2 YRS. OLD, BUT, I'M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT THAT I SHOULDN'T BE HAVING. LAST SUMMER, I HAD TO HAVE MY BATTERY AND SURROUNDING WIRES & HOSES REPLACED DUE TO A CORRODED CABLE WHICH HAD LEAKED ACID EVERYWHERE--LUCKILY UNDER WARRANTY. NOW, MY INTAKE VALVE GASKET IS RUINED, SO ANTIFREEZE LEAKS OUT CONSTANTLY AND THE CAR IS PERPETUALLY ON THE VERGE OF RUNNING HOT. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY ADD ANTIFREEZE AND WATER TO KEEP IT FROM OVERHEATING, ALTHOUGH, IT STILL SMELLS OVERHEATED ALL THE TIME. IT WILL COST ME BETWEEN $900-$1100 TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THE PART ONLY COSTS $150 DUE TO THE LABOR INVOLVED IN REMOVING THE TOP OF THE ENGINE TO GET TO THE GASKET. SINCE THE WARRANTY HAS ALREADY RUN OUT, I'LL HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL MYSELF. I DON'T APPRECIATE THIS BECAUSE I SHOULDN'T BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AT THIS TIME, NOR DO I FEEL THAT IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX IT. THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER SHOULD FOOT THE BILL SINCE THE CAR IS SO YOUNG AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT I CAUSED THIS PROBLEM. *AK
WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DELAYED. THE CONSUMER HAS MADE CONTACT WITH THE DEALERSHIP. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *NM
THE TURN SIGNALS ON MY 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU HAVE OPERATED INTERMITTENTLY SINCE SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR USED IN MARCH OF 2003. THE TURN SIGNALS AND THE HAZARD LIGHTS BECOME COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING. SOMETIMES THEY WILL BE INOPERATIVE FOR A FEW SECONDS, AND SOMETIMES IT CAN BE HOURS. OVERALL I WOULD ESTIMATE THAT THE TURN SIGNALS ONLY FUNCTION ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME. WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS ARE NOT FUNCTIONING IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND STRESSFUL TO MANEUVER THROUGH HEAVY TRAFFIC. I HAVE OFTEN TIMES UPSET OTHER DRIVERS AFTER SWITCHING LANES WITHOUT HAVING A FUNCTIONING TURN SIGNAL. WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED TO OCCUR (MORE THAN A YEAR AGO) I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM OF THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANICS CHECKED THE TURN SIGNAL BULBS, AND AFTER FINDING NO PROBLEMS TOLD ME THAT IT WAS PROBABLY A LOOSE BULB SO IT SHOULD BE FIXED. THE NEXT DAY THE PROBLEM CONTINUED, AND SO I RETURNED TO THE DEALER. THIS TIME THEY TOOK THE CAR INTO THE SHOP TO CHECK IT OVER MORE CAREFULLY. AFTER A DAY IN THE SHOP I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS AND THAT DURING A TEST DRIVE THE BLINKERS OPERATING CORRECTLY. I TOOK THE CAR HOME, AND AS USUAL THE TURN SIGNALS CONTINUED TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY. AFTER HAVING TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR NOW, I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS IN THE HAZARD SWITCH (MOUNTED IN THE DASH). OFTEN TIMES WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS (AND HAZARDS) QUIT WORKING I CAN PRESS THE HAZARD SWITCH SEVERAL TIMES AND EVENTUALLY THEY WILL BEGINNING FUNCTIONING AGAIN. I HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT ON WARM AND HUMID DAYS, THE TURN SIGNALS WILL NOT WORK AT ALL UNTIL THE AIR CONDITIONING HAS THOROUGHLY COOLED AND LOWERED THE HUMIDITY OF THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. IN THE NEAR FUTURE I PLAN ON TRADING THE CAR IN (AND PASSING ON THE PROBLEM TO SOMEONE ELSE) FOR A DIFFERENT VEHICLE (NOT A CHEVROLET) THAT WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE TURN SIGNALS THAT OPERATE 100% OF THE TIME. *JB
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN TRYING TO APPLY THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES THEY WILL LOCK UP, CAUSING VEHICLE TO HAVE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE BRAKES ARE DESIGNED IMPROPERLY. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *NLM
2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. BRAKE AND ROTOR FAILURE. *JB
FRONT/REAR SUSPENSION-SQUAWKING NOISE -GM WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE HAZARD LIGHTS - HAVE GONE OUT TWICE. FUEL INTEGRITY - ERRATIC FUEL READING - SHOWS 1/4 TANK - WHEN IN REALITY THERE IS NO GAS. I HAVE RAN OUT OF GAS APPROXIMATELY 7 TIMES - SEVERAL TIMES LATE AT NIGHT. NO CRUISE CONTROL - GM WOULD NOT REPAIR. BRAKES PADS/ROTORS - HAVE REPLACED 3 TIMES. MY LOCAL DEALER ROTOLO CHEVROLET AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICE WOULD DO NOTHING. IT WAS EXPENSIVE. PREMATURE TIRE WEAR - TWO SETS OF TIRES. CARS RUNS HOT - WOULD NEVER GO ON A TRIP - BECAUSE IT WOULD GET TOO NEAR OVERHEATING. I WAS AFRAID OF GETTING STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DESERT. ENGINE TICKING NOISE - LOCAL DEALER SAID THIS WAS NORMAL. NOW, I FIND NONE OF THESE THINGS WERE NORMAL AND MANY, MANY MORE CAR OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEMS. ALSO, I HAD A BATTERY THAT EXPLODED WHILE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. IT WAS MY PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT REPLACE BATTERY. I FINALLY HAD ENOUGH AND TURNED THIS AUTOMOBILE BACK TO GMAC. IS IT GOING TO TAKE PEOPLE GETTING KILLED TO MAKE GM RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE ISSUES WITH THE 2000 MALIBU. ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS WERE REPORTED TO THE DEALER, BUT SINCE NOTHING COULD BE DUPLICATED, EVEN THOUGH GM WAS AWARE OF THESE ISSUES, THEY WOULD DO NOTHING. AFTER THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, THE DEALERSHIP WAS MORE THAN WILLING TO CORRECT THESE ISSUES. THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THE DECEPTION.....GM IS AWARE OF THESE ISSUES AND HAVE BEEN FOR SOME TIME. SOMEONE NEEDS TO HOLD THEN ACCOUNTABLE. *JB
PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED THIS REPORT/COMPLAINT ON THIS SITE, TO GM AND TO THE FTC AROUND 2004 WITH NO RESPONSE. THE CHEVROLET MALIBU FROM 2000 HAS SIMILAR IGNITION AND ENGINE ISSUES NOW REPORTED ON THE NEWS IN THE COBALT AND OTHER CARS. OWNER HAD TO REPLACE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD SEVERAL TIMES, THE IGNITION,STARTER, KEY SYSTEM, IDLE CONTROL VALVE, AND OTHER PARTS NUMEROUS TIMES DUE TO THE CAR ENGINE SMOKING, "TURNING OFF" OR NOT STARTING AFTER STOPPING, PARKING, AND NOT STARTING UPON INSERTING THE KEY, IDLING HIGH OR TIMING OFF. THIS BEGAN WITHIN 2-3 YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN DRIVING OR STARTING THE CAR. MULTIPLE TIMES THE SECURITY LIGHT WOULD BLINK AND OWNER WOULD HAVE TO WAIT 15 MINUTES TO TURN IT ON. GM EVEN HAS THIS LISTED IN THE MANUAL (IN SECURITY FEATURE/LOCK SYSTEM). OWNER FIRST TOLD IT WAS DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE, THEN KEY, THEN IT WAS A SECURITY PROGRAMMING ISSUE, THEN IT WAS THE INTAKE MANIFOLD (NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY FOR SOME REASON). SOME OF THE REPAIRS COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS AND COSTS FOR TOWING. EVENTUALLY THE CAR WILL NOT START AT ALL AND IT MUST BE REPROGRAMMED, WORKED ON BY DEALER. THE MALIBU AND OTHER CARS SUCH AS SATURN HAVE THIS ISSUE. MAY BE RELATED TO THE ENGINE AND IGNITION ISSUE MENTIONED IN THE NEWS. AT TIMES OWNER WAS STUCK FAR FROM HOME AND HAD TO TOW THE CAR. HIGHWAY DRIVING WAS NERVE WRACKING BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNEW WHAT THE CAR WOULD DO. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF INTERNET COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE MALIBU FROM 2000 AND ONWARD RELATED TO ENGINE AND IGNITION FAILURES. *TR
I BOUGHT MY CHEVY MALIBU 02/01 AND I HAVE 39,000 MILES AND ALREADY I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR CONDITION SWITCH. THE AC SETTINGS CHANGE ON THEIR OWN AS YOU ARE DRIVING THE CAR. THIS CAUSES THE COMPRESSOR TO TURN ON AND OFF, EVENTUALLY CAUSING PREMATURE COMPRESSOR FAILURE. MY BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING SO I WENT TO JUST BRAKES TO GET THEM CHANGED AND IT COST 636.00. I HAD TO HAVE A FOUR WHEEL FRICTION RELINE, DISC PADS RF AND LF, BRAKE SHOES RELINED RR AND LR, ROTORS WERE NEW (COULD NOT CUT) MACHINE RF LF, DRUM MACHINE RR LR, WHEEL CYLINDERS NEW RR LR, BLEED, FLUSH, FILL AND ADJUST BRAKE SYSTEM, ETC. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID "BECAUSE I DID NOT BRING THE VEHICLE TO THEM, TO GET SERVICED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT BECAUSE THEY DID NOT LOOK AT THE MATERIAL." EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE MATERIAL FOR THEM TO LOOK AT. SO I GUESS I HAVE TO EAT THE $700.00 JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR DEFECTIVE MATERIAL. *JB
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND NO WARNING THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK AND THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AND STAY ON THE REMAINDER OF THE TIME VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED. *NLM
I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW (HAD 4 MILES ON IT) IN AUGUST OF 2000. WITHIN A MONTH, THE A/C MOTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. WITHIN 6 MONTHS THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SURGE, AND FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL WHENEVER AT A STOP. DURING THIS SAME PERIOD OF TIME, THE BRAKES BEGAN PULSATING, AND I REPLACED THEM ON MY OWN. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ISSUE WITH THEM SINCE. THEN THIS YEAR, 2003, IT COMPLETELY DIED ON ME WHILE DOING 70 IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY IN SAN DIEGO. MY WHOLE FAMILY WAS IN THE CAR, AND WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I COULDN'T EVEN TURN ON THE FLASHERS TO LET OTHER DRIVERS KNOW WE WERE IN TROUBLE. OBVIOUSLY, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, AND WE HAD TO CROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC, SOLELY PROPELLED BY OUR EXISTING MOMENTUM, WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO STEER. I AM BEGINNING THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO ASSESS WHAT THE ISSUE IS, THOUGH I AM SURE IT IS THE ALTERNATOR. THE BATTERY WAS TESTED, AND DIAGNOSED AS PERFECT, OTHER THAN NEEDING A FULL RECHARGING (IT WAS DRAINED BY ANOTHER COMPONENT). ONCE I DETERMINE WHAT IS WRONG, I INTEND TO GO TO CHEVY, AND HARASS THEM UNTIL THEY FIX IT. THEN, I AM GOING TO TRY AND ENTER INTO ARBITRATION, AND HOPEFULLY GET RID OF THE CAR ALTOGETHER. THE PAINT ON HOOD STARTED CHIPPING @ OR ABOUT 30K DEALER SAID NOT WARRANTY PROBLEM. BEGINNING APR 2002 CAR INTERMITANTLY HAS HAD A "SURGING" IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING & PUTTING IN GEAR. AT FIRST JUST 1 OR 2 TIMES IN 3 OR 4 MOS. NOW THE LAST 8-9 WEEKS IT HAS HAPPENED MORE & MORE FREQUENTLY, THEN 2 WEEKS AGO THE CRUISE CONTROL BECAME ERRATIC IN ACTIVATION & NOW WON'T WORK AT ALL.
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE BRAKE TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR, WHICH CAUSED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. *JB

VEHICLE PASSLOCK THEFT DEVICE IS DEFECTIVE. AT LEAST A COUPLE TIMES PER WEEK THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM ENGAGES MAKING THE VEHICLE INOPERATIVE. *AK
A MAJOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN 2000 CHEV. MALIBU. WHICH OCCURS IN AN OCCASIONAL BASIS. THE TURN INDICATORS WORK INCONSISTENTLY, DOESN'T WORK WHEN IT IS DAMPED OR RAINING. THE ELECTRIC/POWER WINDOW OF THE DRIVER SIDE AND REAR RIGHT SIDE WOULDN'T GO DOWN, AND THE FLICKER SWITCH FROM THE DASH LIGHTS DOESN'T WORK FROM TIME TO TIME. CONSUMER HAS DISCONNECTED AND RECONNECTED THE BATTERY ONCE FOR WHICH RESTORED ELECTRICITY TO THE TWO WINDOWS (THE OTHER WINDOWS WORKED FINE); HOWEVER, I STILL EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH ITS TURN INDICATORS, WHICH WORK INCONSISTENTLY. I'M ASKING IF THIS PROBLEM HAS ANY CONNECTION(S) TO THE RECALL OF THE EMERGENCY FLASHER SWITCH? *LA
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY STALL WITHOUT ANY WARNING. IT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE A WHILE TO RESTART AND WHEN IT DID RESTART IT NEEDED CONSTANT REFUELING. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE BY A LOCAL MECHANIC HE INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE CAUSED BY THE FUEL PUMP. *AK *SCC *JB
RECALL 03V327000, HAZARD WARNING SWITCH: INTERMITTENTLY THE HAZARD AND SIGNAL LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK. CONSUMER HAD A MECHANIC EXAMINE THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE HAZARD WARNING SWITCH NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR. BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
THE LOWER INTAKE IS LEAKING COOLANT, CAUSING LOSS OF COOLANT OVER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME CAUSING IT TO OVERHEAT. WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IT WOULD NOT COVER IT UNLESS THE LOSS OF COOLANT CAUSED A HEAD GASKET TO BLOW OR ANOTHER TYPE OF MAJOR DAMAGE. I WORK WITH 2 OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE MALIBU'S AND THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING AT 35MPH CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AND NEITHER OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS RENDERED A TOTAL LOSS. THE APPRAISER STOPPED WHEN REPAIRS ESTIMATED EXCEEDED $6700.00. *AK *CB
THE STEERING BOLT BECAME LOOSE, WHICH CAUSED CONSUMER TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.*JB
THE TURN SIGNAL BECOMES INOPERATIVE. WHEN THE HAZARD WARNING SWITCH IS PUSHED, THE TURN SIGNAL RECOVERS FOR A FEW MINUTES. THERE IS A PREVIOUS RECALL FOR THIS YEARS MODEL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. CHEVROLET WILL NOT REPAIR MY CAR, "BECAUSE THE CAR IS NOT WITHIN THE STATED VIN RELEASED FOR RECALL".
CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE TURN SIGNAL AND SAFETY LIGHT (EMERGENCY SIGNAL) DEALER HAS REPLACED THE SWITCH TURN SIGNAL PART AT 24.000 MILES, AND CONSUMER STATES THE PROBLEM IS RECURRING. TS

I TOO, HAVE MANY OF THE PROBLEMS THAT OTHER MALIBU OWNERS HAVE. MY TURN SIGNALS WORK INTERMITTENTLY, THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED 2X, IN ADDITION TO ROTORS, ETC. THE BATTERY BLEW UP, BUT WAS REPLACED AS WAS THE AC TURNING OFF AND ON BY ITSELF. THE ONE ISSUE THAT IS VERY CONCERNING TO ME, IS ONE FAMILIAR TO YOU. MY CAR CUTS OFF AT ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS DONE THIS TO ME ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. NASHVILLE HAS 3 INTERSTATES RUNNING THROUGH IT AND I WAS ON THEM BOTH TIMES THIS HAPPENED. IT WAS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE SHOPS THAT I HAVE TAKEN IT TO CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANICS AT THEN SHOPS TOLD ME THAT MALIBU'S ARE BY FAR SOME OF THE MOST TROUBLESOME CARS ON THE ROAD TODAY. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED. YOU LOSE CONTROL AND HAVE NO STEERING ABILITY, WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I CAN SEE FROM OTHERS THAT THEIR PROBLEMS ARE BEING IGNORED AS WELL. WHEN WILL GM ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. 1. COLD ENGINE KNOCK CYLINDER/PISTON DEFECT:MANUFATURER HAS SEVERAL BULLETINS ON THE PROBLEM YET HAS NO PERMANANT FIX AVAILABLE. COULD LEAD TO PREMATURE SCORING AND OR FAILURE OF ENGINE COMPONENTS. 2.ENGINE STALL UPON DE-ACCELERATION DUE TO COMPUTER OR COMPONENT DEFECT. COULD LEAD TO ENGINE STALL WHEN LEAVING ROAD INTERSECTIONS OR RAIL CROSSING RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT AS THOSE FOUND ON THE INTERNET. 3. HEATER FAN SPEED SWITCH ELECTRICALLY FAILS. MANY COMPLAINTS FOUND OF OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCE THE SAME 3 PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHCLE. SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR REPAIRS AT DEALERS.
VEHICLE SHUTS COMPLETELY DOWN AT WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP OR POTHOLE IN THE ROAD. DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME A BUMP IS HIT, BUT HAS HAPPENED OVER 10 TIMES AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT MIGHT HAPPEN. *PH
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE ANTI-THEFT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE IGNITION CYLINDER. THE TECHNICIAN FURTHER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD SHUT OFF AT ANY MOMENT IF THE COMPONENT WAS NOT REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE IDENTICAL FAILURES RECURRED AND WERE REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 157,000.
IGNIGTION LOCK CYLINDER HAVING DIFFICULTY TURN THE IGNITION DUE TO TUMBLERS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. HAD SEVERAL MONTHS WHERE IT TOOK 10-20 MINUTES TO START THE CAR BECAUSE THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN THE IGNIGTION OVER VARIOUS NUMBER OF DATES. *AK
MY CAR KEPT DYING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME TO CONSIDER 1/4 TANK EMPTY, BECAUSE WHEN THE CAR GOT DOWN TO EMPTY, ALL THE GAS WAS IN THE LINES AND IT RUINED THE FUEL PUMP. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE I GOT A NEW FUEL PUMP. 8JB
BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED IN SEPT, 2002 AND AGAIN IN DEC, 2002. BRAKES STILL SCRUB AND SQUEAL WHEN BRAKING. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT GENERAL MOTORS I HAVE BEEN TOLD KNOWS ABOUT. WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL. THIS MAKES FOR A BAD REPUTATION. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MALIBU AND MAYBE NOT EVEN A CHEVROLET PRODUCT.
VEHICLE HAS HAD THE BRAKE ROTORS TURNED TWICE AND REPLACED ONCE DUE TO EXCESSIVE VIBRATION WHILE BRAKING. CONSIDER THE BRAKES SYSTEM UNSAFE. THE AC CONTROL HEAD HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE UPPER STRUT MOUNTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TO TRY AND CURE FRONT END NOISE. FRONT WHEEL HUB AND BEARING HAVE BEEN REPLACED DUE TO NOISE. ENGINE IS EXCESSIVELY NOISY ON STARTUP WITH CLICKING AND TAPPING THAT THE DEALER CALLS NORMAL. TURN SIGNALS FAILED. POWER WINDOW IS INTERMITTENT. THREE SPARK PLUG WIRES HAVE FAILED. RADIATOR CAP HAS FAILED. INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET FAILED. CAR RUINS TIRES.
