THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO DOES NOT ACCURATELY DISPLAY THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. IT MAY READ ANYWHERE FROM 0 TO 120 MPH REGARDLESS OF THE ACTUAL SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. I FIRST BECAME AWARE OF THE INACCURATE READINGS WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT AN INDICATED 72 MPH. I NOTICED THAT I WAS PASSING THE FEW OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD AND BECAUSE OF THE SPEED AT WHICH I WAS DOING SO I CHECKED THE SPEED READING ON MY GPS AND FOUND THAT I WAS DOING ALMOST 100 MPH. THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. I AM ALSO AWARE OF SEVERAL OTHER GENERAL MOTORS TRUCKS OF THE SAME YEAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. AND ALSO THAT THE 2003 AND 2004 GM TRUCK HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE IDENTICAL PART FOR WHICH GM HAS INSTITUTED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION RECALL. *TR
THE FRONT RIGHT AIR BAG SENSOR IN MY 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO FAILED FOR NO APPARENT REASON CAUSING THE AIR BAG SYSTEM TO BE DE-ACTIVATED UNTIL THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS 4 YEARS OLD AND HAS 35,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS TO MY KNOWLEDGE. THE ISSUE IS THAT WHEN A SENSOR FAILS, THE ENTIRE AIR BAG SYSTEM IS DE-ACTIVATED UNTIL REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED, CAUSING OWNERS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE SAFETY FEATURE. GENERAL MOTORS MADE IT VERY CLEAR THAT THEY HAD NO INTENTION OF CORRECTING THE PROBLEM FOR FREE. REPLACEMENT OF THE SENSOR COST $275 FOR LABOR AND PARTS. A SERVICE REQUEST WAS FILED WITH GENERAL MOTORS ASKING FOR THEM TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND THE REQUEST WAS DENIED. I COULD AFFORD THE REPAIR, HOWEVER MANY PEOPLE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO AND WILL END DRIVING THEIR VEHICLE WITHOUT AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE. *TR

2005 CHEVY 2500 HD SPEEDOMETER FAILURE @44,000 MILE. THE SPEEDOMETER WENT TO 120 MPH AT 55 MPH, SITTING STILL IT WOULD STILL READ 60 MPH. DASH CLUSTER HAD TO BE REPLACED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WITH MY 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 I EXPERIENCED POWER STEERING AND BRAKE LOSS AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE AND BEGINNING TO DRIVE.. STEERING WAS VERY HARD AND I HAD TO "STAND" ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT ALL BEGAN TO WORK AGAIN BUT I WAS WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND BRAKES FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE UNIT AND REPLACED A HOSE ON THE POWER STEERING PUMP. PARTS ARE PROBABLY NOT AVAILABLE AS I LEFT THEM AT THE DEALER. NOW I AM GETTING A SLIGHT SURGE WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND THIS IS ONE OF THE EVENTS THAT HAPPENED BEFORE THE FAILURE CAUSING ME TO FEAR THAT FAILURE MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG WHEN THE CAB FILLED WITH SMOKE AND A BURNING PLASTIC SMELL. I SAW SMOKE COME FROM UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE DASHBOARD. THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR HARNESS HAD CAUGHT FIRE. I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT OUT WITH DAMAGE TO ONLY THE HARNESS AND RESISTOR. IT WAS REPLACED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I HAD PURCHASED FROM GM. FAST FORWARD TO MAY 9, 2010 AND 50,000 MILES LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND GM CORPORATE TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO EVEN THOUGH THIS SAME MODEL VEHICLE HAS BEEN RECALLED IN CANADA FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS QUOTED $300.00 FOR THE REPAIR. ON MAY 10.2010, MY DEALER CALLED AND SAID HE RECEIVED AN E-MAIL FROM GM STATING THAT GM WAS IN THE PROCESS OF OFFERING A 10 YEAR 150,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE BLOWER MOTOR AND HARNESS REPAIR. HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY NOTICE FROM GM YET BUT DEALER SAID THEY WOULD FIX IT NO CHARGE.
2005 SILVERADO INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILS. THE FIRST REPLACEMENT WAS AT 23K MILES (MAR 07). THE ENGINE HOURS KEPT RESETTING. NOW MY VEHICLE HAS 43K MILES AND ALL GAUGES ARE FAULTY. THE GAS GAUGE GOES FROM FULL TO EMPTY AND BACK REGARDLESS OF THE AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE TANK. THE ENGINE HOUR KEEPS RESETTING BACK TO ZERO AND THE TEMP GAUGE MOVES FROM HOT TO COLD AND BACK. THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING ON OUR OFFICE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO GM SPECIAL BULLETINS THIS IS COVERED FOR 03 AND 04 MODELS USING THE SAME IPC. WHY ISN'T THIS COVERED FOR 05 MODELS AS WELL? IF THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM SHORTING OUT THE IPC IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED BY GM AND NOT THE CONSUMER. THIS IS ONLY ONE OF MANY PROBLEMS I'VE HAD WITH THIS 2005 MODEL. *TR
2005 CHEVY SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. I WAS DRIVING AND THE SPEEDOMETER SHOWED 20MPH LESS THAN ACTUAL SPEED. WHEN I STOPPED IT SHOWED 120MPH. GM HAD RECALL FOR THIS FOR 2004 AND SOME 2005 MODELS, GM SAYS MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT COVERED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE REGISTERED A SPEED OF 120 MPH WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH; HOWEVER, IN A SCHOOL ZONE IT REGISTERED 80 MPH. THE SPEEDOMETER RECENTLY READ 0 MPH AND WOULD NOT INCREASE BEYOND THAT SPEED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL OR WARRANTY AVAILABLE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE REPAIR COST WOULD BE OVER $500 NOT INCLUDING THE LABOR COSTS. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. AT 57,055 MY 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING AND SINCE I HAD RECEIVED A LETTER ABOUT A CLASS ACTION SUIT I REFERRED TO THIS LETTER HOWEVER IT ONLY COVERED THE 2003 AND 2004 MODELS. I FEEL THAT THE SPEEDOMETER IS AN ESSENTIAL PART IN THE SAFETY OF A VEHICLE AND THEREFORE AM PAYING MY $200 DEDUCTIBLE TO HAVE THE SPEEDOMETER FIXED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN, BUT I ALSO FEEL THAT GM IS AWARE OF THAT THIS PROBLEM EXTENDS BEYOND THE 2004 MODELS AND IS FAILING IN THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE BY NOT EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO COVER ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, MY TRUCK WOULD NOT GO INTO OVERDRIVE. A LITTLE FARTHER DOWN THE ROAD, WHILE SHIFTING INTO 3RD GEAR THE TRUCK WOULD SLIP INTO GEAR. EVENTUALLY 3RD, 4TH AND OD WENT OUT, THE ONLY GEARS THAT WORKED ARE 1ST AND 2ND. THE DEALER SAID IT WOULD COST OVER $2500 TO REBUILD BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE OR REPLACEMENT WOULD COST $2800. THE TRUCK ONLY HAD 85000 MILES ON IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WOULD REPAIR THE FAILURE FOR FREE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE FREE REMEDY BECAUSE THE MILEAGE EXCEEDED THE 70,000 REQUIREMENT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HD. AT APPROX. 50,000 MILES, THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED ACTING UP. STUCK AND REGISTERED INCORRECT SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO "RESET" IT. NOW AT 78,000 MILES, THE SPEEDOMETER WILL NOT STAY CORRECT. *TR
SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING PROPERLY. HAVE 65,000 MILES AND IT IS REGISTERING 120 MPH AND AT STOP SIGNS 60 MPH. DEALER SAID NOTICE WAS ONLY GOOD FOR 2003-2004 MODELS - DEALER SAID THE 2005 MODELS WERE FIXED--THAT IS NOT SO AND I'M PROOF. VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT CHEVROLET DOES NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBLITY FOR THEIR MALFUNCTION. THIS COULD CREATE A SERIOUS CRASH AS WELL AS TICKETS. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HD2500 PICKUP WITH 32660 MILES ON IT. THE SPEEDOMETER SUDDENLY WENT WILD WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAD JUST EXITED A 75 MILE AN HOUR FREEWAY AND IMMEDIATELY HAD TO REDUCE TO 25 MILES AN HOUR. THE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERED ALL OVER THE CHART. I AM LEARNING IT IS THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND GM HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. IT WILL COST $500 TO GET REPAIRED. I AM NOT DRIVING IT NOW. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT. *TR

SHE CITED IT AS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM; NONE OF THE GAUGES WERE FUNCTIONING. SHE NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN REPLACED PREVIOUSLY. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST HER. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE CONTACT CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. HOWEVER, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED 120 MPH AND REMAINED AT THIS SPEED ALL THE WAY TO HER RESIDENCE. WHEN THE CONTACT ARRIVED AT HOME, SHE TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND THE SPEEDOMETER GRADUALLY BEGAN DECREASING TO 0 MPH. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS PERTAINING TO THIS FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,450. I PRESENTLY OWN A 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO CREW CAB, PRESENT MILEAGE IS 55,000. AS I WAS DRIVING, I NOTICED MY SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE SHOT UP TO 100 AND THEN PROCEEDED TO MOVE PAST 120 MPH LINE. IT IS CURRENTLY STUCK PAST THE 120MPH LIMIT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT'S NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. THERE ARE OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THE SIMILAR PROBLEM AND YET THERE IS NO FACTORY RECALL ON THIS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED 120 MPH. SINCE THIS FIRST INCIDENT, THE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERS THE VEHICLE'S SPEED AT 100 MPH, EVEN WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED AND STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND THERE HAS BEEN NO DEFINITIVE DIAGNOSIS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,032 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,500.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PADS WERE EATING UP THE ROTOR ON HIS FRONT BRAKES. THE FAILURE CAUSES UNEVEN WEAR AND TEAR. HE HEARD SQUEALING NOISES AND THE PADS WERE NOT TOUCHING THE ROTOR TO STOP THE VEHICLE PROPERLY. THE CONTACT WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SOON FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 53,000 MILES. VEHICLE ENGINE RUNS HIGH RPM BUT FAILS TO SHIFT, ESPECIALLY FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. DEALER SAYS IT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE PROBLEM IS DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IN CITY TRAFFIC WHERE TRYING TO NEGOTIATE AT TRAFFIC LIGHT IS A HIT OR MISS PROPOSITION. *TR
SPEEDOMETER ERRATTIC, STICKS AT 120MPH AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, WILL NOT GO TO ZERO. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED IN COLD TEMPERATURES, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT WARM UP. THE ANTIFREEZE WAS LOW AND REFILLED BY THE CONTACT, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ANTIFREEZE WAS LEAKING DUE TO A CRACKED HEAD GASKET. THE REPAIR COST WAS ESTIMATED AT $4,200. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT ASSIST WITH REPAIRS. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE, SHE WAS UNABLE TO HAVE REPAIRS PERFORMED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE COMPANY WAS UNDER LIQUIDATION. THE WARRANTY COMPANY ALSO STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIRS SINCE THE FAILURES WERE RECURRING ISSUES. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGES AT VEHICLE SPEEDS OF UNDER 10 MPH ON DRY CONDITIONS. I PREVIOUSLY OWNED A 2001 CHEVROLET TAHOE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ONE WOULD THINK THAT GM WOULD CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. VEHICLE HAS 13,000 MILES, BUT IS OVER 36 MO. OLD, SO IS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH ON A CROSS COUNTRY TRIP, THE ABS INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INBOARD RETENTION NUT THAT WAS USED TO MAINTAIN THE HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY LOOSENED, WHICH RESULTED IN THE ABS INDICATOR ILLUMINATING, NOISE, AND/OR WHEEL SEPARATION. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07E106000 (WHEELS:CAP/COVER/HUB). THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST $711. THE CONTACT WILL PAY FOR THE REPAIR, BUT FEELS THAT HIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SINCE THE FAILURES ARE IDENTICAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,764. I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO. LAST WINTER MY SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION (STICK). NOW IT IS STUCK AT 120 MPH ALL THE TIME. THIS IS UNSAFE AND APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM AMONG A LOT OF THE 05 SILVERADO'S. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 03 MODEL AND 04 MODEL. I'VE DONE RESEARCH ONLINE AND THERE IS A LOT OF PEOPLE AT THE MOMENT WAITING ON A RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN LOSING POWER. A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS POSSIBLY DEFECTIVE. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DEFINITIVELY DIAGNOSED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 50,000.
I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT FOR MY FATHER. HE HAVE A 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO. MY FATHER WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN A STREET AT ABOUT 35 MPH WHEN THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR AXLE AND TIRE CAME OFF THE VEHICLE. THE RESULT WAS BODY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY NO BODILY INJURY OR PROPER DAMAGE OCCURRED OTHER THAN THAT DONE ON MY FATHER VEHICLE. AS IT TURNS OUT THE RETAINER BUTTON ON THE END OF THE AXLE SHAFT WAS BROKEN OFF ALLOWING THE AXLE TO COME OUT OF THE AXLE HOUSING. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND AN INSURANCE CLAIM WAS MADE. THE VEHICLE HAS APPRX. 90,000 MILES AND WAS PURCHASED FROM A DEALER 1450 MILES PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. (APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS AFTER THE PURCHASE) THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED BY THE DEALER DESANTIS CHEVY IN BROCKTON MA. THEY WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF THE DAMAGE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM HAS FAILED FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS. OCCASIONALLY, WHEN THE CONTACT APPROACHED A STOP SIGN AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
SPEEDOMETER WILL ONLY GO UP AND NOT DOWN. IT STICKS UPON SHUTDOWN, AND WILL GO DOWN IF I RESTART THE VEHICLE 20 TIMES BEFORE I LEAVE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE ACCELERATING TO 10 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD VIBRATING NOISE.
