AFTER HEARING ABOUT THE RECALLS ON CHEVROLET CARS ABOUT THE IGNITION I HAD TO TELL YOU THAT THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY TRUCK. THERE WAS A SUDDEN JARRING & THE TRUCK SHUT DOWN & WOULD NOT START BACK UP. *TR
MY DASH BOARD IS CRACKED AND GETTING WORSE AS THE CRACK GROWS. THE CRACK IS BEHIND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AND WILL CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY IN AN UNSAFE MANER AND ALSO CAUSE EXTRA DEBRIE TO FLY AROUND WHEN THE AIRBAG DOES DEPLOY DUE TO THE FAULTY DASH THAT AFFECTS 2007-2013 GM TRUCKS AND SUV'S
"TAKATA RECALL" DASH BOARD CRACKED . MAJOR CRACKS THROUGH OUT. CONCERNS ABOUT FLYING DEBRIS IF EVER THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AT OR ABOVE 1 QUART OF OIL PER 1,000 MILES. ALL PLUGS FOULED OUT AT 39,000 MILES AND ONE PLUG CRACKED. I CHANGE OIL EVERY 3,500 MILES AND REGULARLY TOP OFF OIL. THERE IS NO LEAKING OIL BUT IT IS SOMEHOW VAPORIZING RAPIDLY. THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THE VEHICLE TO FAIL LIKE THIS AT THIS STAGE IN ITS LIFE. CHEVY HAS COME TO STATE IN A BULLETIN CONCERNING A TWEAK TO THE VALVE COVERS TO KEEP THE OIL FROM VAPORIZING. CHEVY HAS EVEN MORE RECENTLY COME OUT WITH A RECALL AS OF 1/17/2012 TO ANNOUNCE THERE IS A LEGITIMATE ISSUE WITH THE OIL CONSUMPTION ON THIS MODEL CHEVY. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND GM SHOULD PAY FOR ANY CURRENT DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK, WORN PARTS AND ALL. *TR
THE AMERICAN GENERAL 245/70/17 TIRES ON 2009 WORE OUT DOWN TO THE TIRES WEAR BARS 2/32 AT 16,000MILES THERE WAS HEAVY EDGE WEAR CHUNCKING PIECES OF TREAD . TIRE WERE ROTATED EVERY 5000 AND ALIGNMENT CHECKED. TOOK TO LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND THEY FOUND A RECALL OR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FROM AMERICAN TIRE AND ALL FOUR TIRES WERE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. HOWEVER THEY WERE REPLACED WITH AMERICAN GENERAL GRABBER H/T WHICH ALSO HAVE TO SOFT OF A RUBBER COMPOUND AND ARE WEARING OUT QUICKLY THE TRUCK HAS 26150 MILES ON IT NOW AND THE NEW TIRES ARE DOWN TO 7/32 WITH LESS THAN 10000 MILES ON THEM. START PUTTING BRIDGESTONE TIRES BACK ON THE TRUCKS CHEVROLET. *TR
SEVERAL CRACKS IN MY DASH (4-5). ONE IS AT THE CORNER OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. THE DASH IS SO BRITTLE IT CRACKS FROM JUST CLOSING THE DOOR. I'M AFRAID WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN IF I'M IN AN ACCIDENT AND BROKEN DASH PIECES GO FLYING THROUGHOUT THE CAB. THIS IS NO DOUBT A SAFETY CONCERN! NOT TO MENTION AN EYE SORE AND RESALE KILLER. THIS STARTED A FEW YEARS AGO AND CONTINUES TO GET WORSE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO APPLY EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THE RPMS WOULD RACE EXCESSIVELY AND THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGIN TO PERFORM NORMALLY. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A MAINTENANCE ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,050.
THIS HAS BEEN ON GOING FROM DAY ONE MY TRUCK HAS 30900 MILES ON IT AND ALMOST 3 YEARS OLD HEAD LIGHTS FLICKER OR DIM OUT FOR NO REASON ALONG WITH THE DASH LIGHTS DEALER SAID IT WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO IT WAS JUST THAT TYPE OF VOLTAGE REGULATOR. *TR
DASHBOARD IS CRACKED IN SEVERAL PLACES, FROM AIRBAGS TO WINDSHIELD, AND IN FRONT OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. ALL ON TOP OF DASH. IT IS CRUMBLING AND I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY IF I AM IN A COLLISION. *TR

AT 46,487 MILES HAD TO SPEND $415.75 TO CORRECT ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. NOW DOOR CHIME COMES ON AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN KEY IS NOT IN IGNITION. *KB
2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE BURNS OIL AT A RAPID RATE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, HE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO STOP THE ENGINE FROM BURNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE RINGS OR PISTON WALLS WERE DEFECTIVE AND BELIEVED THE ENGINE SHOULD BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *JB
WE HAVE A DASH CRACK FROM DRIVER SIDE TO PASSENGER SIDE NOT ALL THE WAY JUST CRACKS IN DIFFERENT AREAS; HOWEVER WHAT WORRIES US THE MOST IS THE 2" CRACK AT THE LEFT HAND CORNER OF WHERE THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS. THE SPECIFIC AREA IS TOP LEFT HAND CORNER OF THE AIRBAG SEAM THERE IS A CRACK AND I TRULY WORRY ABOUT THE AIRBAG DEPLOYING AND SHOOTING PLASTIC PIECES EVERYWHERE FROM THAT CRACK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, HE FELL ASLEEP AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A CEMENT WALL AND THE FRONT DRIVER'S AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUFFERED HEAD INJURIES DURING THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER INVESTIGATED THE FAILURE AND CONCLUDED THAT THE AIR BAG PERFORMED AS DESIGNED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT DISENGAGE. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT IT FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE HE HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL GEAR AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,500.
USED THE VEHICLE FOR VACATION IN 2011 AS IT WAS JUST 1 YEAR OLD. VERY LITTLE BRAKE PED LEFT GOING DOWN HILL. GOING DOWN HILL AND STEP ON THE BRAKE AND THERE WAS A BAD VIBRATION AND GROWLING NOISE FROM THE BRAKES. I HAD IT CHECKED AND THE DEALER GROUND THE BRAKE ROTORS. THIS NEVER SOLVED THE PROBLEM, SO THEY REPLACED THE ROTORS. THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR THE WARPED ROTORS FOR A WHILE. NOW THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN WITH 23000 MILES AND ONLY GROWLS AND VIBRATES WHEN GOING DOWN HILL WHERE YOU HAVE TO STEP DOWN A LITTLE HARDER. HAD IT CHECKED OUT AGAIN AND THEY SAY THE ROTORS ARE WARPED AGAIN. I REPLACED THE ROTORS AND PUT NEW BRAKE PADS ON AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. I DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE HARD AND ONLY ABOUT 4000 MILES PER YEAR. WHATS CAUSING THE BRAKE ROTORS TO KEEP WARPING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 60MPH ON A HIGHWAY, THE TRUCK SUDDENLY LURCHED AND TWO WARNINGS CAME ON THE DASH; SERVICE STABILITRAC AND SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. THE TRUCK ALSO OPERATED UNDER REDUCED POWER AND I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE ACCELERATOR. GOING UP HILLS WAS AN ADVENTURE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD FOR THIS TO HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING AT ANYTIME ANYWHERE. DID EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ONLINE, AND FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH GM STABILITRAC. BROUGHT TRUCK TO DEALER FOR REPAIR AND THEY SAID THIS IS THE FIRST ONE THEY HAD SEEN WITH THIS CONDITION. TRUCK HAD 37,400 MILES. DEALER REPLACED THROTTLE CONTROL BODY FOR FREE UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. TRUCK CURRENTLY RUNS FINE, BUT THE TRUCK DOES NOT IDLE AS WELL AS IT USED TO, SLIGHT VIBRATION AND STUTTER, DEALER SAID GM SAID THIS IS COMMON AND NOT A PROBLEM, IT IS SET ELECTRONICALLY AND CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. DO WE REALLY NEED ALL THIS ELECTRONIC CRAP? *TR
CRACKS IN DASHBOARD. BAD FINISH ON ALLOYED WHEELS
2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE AT LESS THAN 20,000 MILES DUE TO A BURNT BEARING ON CAM SHAFT. DEFECTIVE ENGINE REPLACED WITH NEW REPLACEMENT ENGINE WHICH ALSO SUFFERED COMPLETE FAILURE WITH LESS THAN 150 MILES. THIS SECOND FAILURE WAS IN THE COOLANT PORT DUE TO A CASTING DEFECT-EXCESSIVE FLASH IN WATER PORT. *TR
I WAS AT 60 TO 65 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE AND THE TRUCK POWERED THE MOTOR DOWN. THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL MODULE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF AT THE LAST SAFE EXIT FOR QUITE A WAY. ONSTAR RECOMMENDED NOT DRIVING IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DID THE DIAGNOSTIC AND AT 28000 MILES TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. IT TOOK 5 DAYS TO GET A "NEW" ONE.( APROX 1/26/11) ON APROX 12/15/11 AN ALMOST IDENTICAL THING HAPPENED, MILEAGE 50,000. OUT OF WARRANTY I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP. THEIR COMPUTER TEST CONCLUDED A THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY MALFUNCTION. $450.00 TO REPAIR. CALL THE DEALER " NO THAT IS UNDER WARRANTY" DEALER CONCLUDED THAT IT "JUST NEEDED CLEANED". PRIOR TO SERVICE (I RELY ON THIS TRUCK FOR WORK, I CAN NOT GET A RIDE, I CAN NOT RIDE A BUS) I WAS ABLE TO "RESET " THE STABILITRACK ( THE BUTTON WOULD NOT TURN IT OFF) BY PULLING 4 FUSES UNDER THE HOOD FUSE BLOCK. BUT BOY WHEN IT HAD ENOUGH THE TRUCK WOULD POWER THE MOTOR DOWN AND WITHIN 15 SECONDS THE TRUCK WOULD DIE RIGHT WHERE IT WAS. 5 MPH, OR 15 MPH NO POWER NOTHING, BRAKES ,STEERING GONE. *TR
I HAVE A 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE ON GRADES OR EVER SMALL SLOPES. THE VEHICLE FREE ROLLS AS FAST AS YOU WILL LET IT IN OVER DRIVE, 3RD GEAR, 1ST OR 2ND. THERE IS NO ENGINE BREAKING AT ALL. GM SAYS THIS IS PROPER OPERATION FOR THE VEHICLE, AND THERE IS NO SOFTWARE OR MECHANICAL FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2004 OF THE SAME MODEL AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY, WITH VERY EFFECTIVE SPEED CONTROL. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE, AND ACTUALLY IN MY OPINION CANNOT BE CONSIDERED TO BE CRUISE CONTROL AT ALL. MY DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THIS IS AN ONGOING COMPLAINT, THAT GM WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE AS A DEFINITE DEFECT IN DESIGN. THE SAME DAY MY VEHICLE WAS BEING EXAMINED, THE LOCAL POLICE HAD ONE OF THEIR TRUCKS OF THE SAME MODEL YEAR IN THE SHOP WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT, BUT CANNOT USE THIS OPTION ON THE VEHICLE, I CAN ONLY RIDE MY BREAKS DOWN SLOPES TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. *TR

2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR REPLACEMENT. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FAILED, IF CAUSED A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER AND DISABLED THE TRACTION CONTROL AND STABILITRAK FUNCTION. THE CONSUMER STATED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FAILED A YEAR AFTER HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. *JB

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS ALWAYS ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED VIA EMAIL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
WARPED FRONT ROTORS BOTH WHEELS. WHILE DRIVING GOING DOWN A HILL, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD START SHAKING. I AM A RETIRED MASTER MECHANIC WITH OVER 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE SPECIALIZING IN BRAKES. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES WITH THIS COMPLAINT. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE COMPLAINT BECAUSE OF NOT TEST DRIVING DOWN A HILL. TEST DRIVE WAS ON A FLAT SURFACE. PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT SAFETY AFTER SO MANY SERVICE VISITS, I FINALLY CALLED GENERAL MOTORS IN DETROIT TO FILE A COMPLAINT. GENERAL MOTORS REPLACED THE ROTORS AS A GOODWILL GESTURE. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT RE-OCCURRED AFTER ROTOR REPLACEMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AT 2 MPH, THE REAR BUMPER BENT SEVERELY AFTER CRASHING INTO A RAIL. THE CONTACT STATED THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT DID NOT MENTION IF THE POLICE WERE CALLED OR IF THERE WERE ANY INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,900 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TAKATA RECALL - BEEN WAITING 4 MONTHS FOR PARTS AT THE DEALER AND I LIVE IN A HIGH HEAT - HIGH HUMIDITY AREA. WAS IN AN ACCIDENT IN NOVEMBER 2010 AND LUCKILY THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH WHEN HE DROVE OVER A POTHOLE AND BOTH SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE SEAT BELTS, THE HEADLINER AND THE CEILING LIGHT. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A POWDERY RESIDUE INSIDE THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS EXPELLED FROM THE AIR BAGS. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURE WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT AN ENGINEER COULD INSPECT THE VEHICLE WITHIN TEN DAYS AND THE RESULTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE WITHIN 120 DAYS OF INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER INSPECTED NOR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
TOP OF DASH COVER HAS CRACKED AROUND AIR BAG AND BOTTOM CORNER OF DRIVERS SIDE APPEARED MAYBE A YEAR AFTER PURCHASED NEW. NOT AWARE EXACTLY WHEN IT HAPPENED BUT HAS STEADILY GOTTEN WORSE.
2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB, 13,000 MILES. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK STOPPED WORKING, AND THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY. JUST WEEKS LATER, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK STOPPED WORKING. DEALERSHIP, AGAIN, REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
WE COULD HEAR THE TRUCK MAKING A GRINDING NOISE AS WE SLOWED FOR A STOP SIGN. WHEN WE LOOKED, THE WHOLE BRAKE PAD WAS MISSING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR BRAKES. THIS CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ROTOR. WE HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE PADS SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE FRONT BRAKES HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED A SINGLE TIME.
WHEN DRIVING HEADLIGHTS FLICKER CONSTANTLY. NOTIFIED DEALER AUGUST 2010. DEALER STATED THEY HAVE HAD COMPLAINTS, BUT FIND NO PROBLEM. THIS OCCURS NO MATTER WHAT SPEED YOU ARE DRIVING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN WARM WEATHER, THE PASSENGERS REAR WINDOW SHATTERED WITHOUT WARRANT. THE DEALER ADVISED THE REPAIRS TO THE WINDOW WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE CONTACTS WARRANTY. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE FAILURE TO BE SAFETY RELATED DUE TO THE GLASS SHATTERING AND FLYING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 3,050.
MY DASHBOARD HAS MULTIPLE CRACKS IN THE DASHBOARD, AND MY VEHICLE STAYS IN A GARAGE WITH THE WINDOWS CRACKED TO PREVENT OVERHEATING. I HAVE HAD THESE CRACKS SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND GM WILL NOT REPLACE IT. IF I WANT IT FIXED I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. I HAVE MAJOR CONCERNS WITH THE DASH TURNING TO SHRAPNEL IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS. MY VEHICLE IS UNDER THE TAKATA RECALL, AS WELL. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NO CONCERNS WITH THIS ISSUE. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THEY CAN FIX MY AIRBAG.
I HAVE A 2009 SILVERADO CREW CAB THAT CAME WITH GOODYEAR EAGLE LS-2 TIRES--DOT M62A BCER. ALSO, MY SILVERADO CAME WITH A TIRE MONITORING SYSTEM. ON 1 MAY 2010 I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA OF WYLIE, TEXAS, VERY SLOWLY, PROBABLY AROUND 5 MPH BECAUSE THERE WERE CARS PARKED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STREET AND PEOPLE STANDING BY THEIR VEHICLES TALKING. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PASSING BETWEEN THE CARS THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE BACK TIRE COLLAPSED, APPARENTLY A BLOWOUT. I CALLED MY INSURANCE ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE THAT CHANGED MY TIRES. I ASKED THE MAN WHO CHANGED MY TIRES IF HE HAD A COMPRESSOR ON HIS TOW TRUCK, AND HE DID. BECAUSE HE OR I NEITHER ONE COULD SEE ANY NAILS NOR ANYTHING ELSE PROTRUDING INTO THE TIRE, I ASKED HIM TO AIR THE TIRE UP. HE AIRED THE TIRE UP AND IMMEDIATELY SAID HERE IS YOUR PROBLEM'AIR BLOWING OUT OF THE SIDE OF THE TIRE. I LOOKED THE ROAD OVER WHERE THE TIRED COLLAPSED, BUT FOUND NOTHING. TWENTY MINUTES EARLIER I WAS TRAVELING ON U.S. 75 IN PLANO, TEXAS GOING 60 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. MY SILVERADO WILL LET ME KNOW IF MY TIRES ARE LOW. I HAD NO WARNING BEFORE THERE WAS AN APPARENT BLOWOUT. THE TIRE HAD 27,700 MILES, PLUS OR MINUS A COUPLE OF MILES, AT THE TIME IT COLLAPSED. THE TIRE HAD GOOD THREAD AND HAD BEEN ROUTINELY ROTATED. THE TIRE MONITORING SYSTEM LET ME KNOW WHEN I PUT THE SPARE ON THAT I SHOULD CHECK THE TIRE. I HAVE NOTIFIED GOODYEAR OF THIS INCIDENT. *TR

THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MODERATE TO SEVER INJURIES. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED ACCORDINGLY. ON CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCKS, YEAR 2009, THE LOCKING MECHANISM BREAKS AFTER LESS THAN A YEAR ON ALL FOUR DOORS CAUSING MY CHILD TO BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW FROM CLASSIC CHEVROLET IN GRAPEVINE, TX IN JANUARY 2010. THE FIRST FEW MONTHS I HAD THE VEHICLE, I HAD NO PROBLEMS. STARTING IN MARCH 2010 I NOTICED THAT MY RADIO(NAVIGATION SYSTEM) WOULD SOUND LIKE IT WOULD SHORT OUT INTERMITTENTLY. I DIDN'T REALLY THINK ANYTHING OF IT. I THOUGHT THAT IT HAD TO BE THE RADIO STATION OR INTERFERENCE WITH OTHER WIRELESS SIGNALS. I NEVER REALLY THOUGHT IT WOULD BECOME A PROBLEM UNTIL RECENTLY. ON 5/5/2012, I WAS TRAVELING 70MPH AT NIGHT DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN, ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SEEMED LIKE IT WAS "RESETTING" ITSELF MULTIPLE TIMES. FROM DOOR LOCKS TO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, TO NAVIGATION SYSTEM, TO EVEN HEADLIGHTS, EVERYTHING CYCLED MORE THAN 3 OR 4 TIMES IN RAPID SUCCESSION. I WAS MERELY DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, I HADN'T JUST TOUCHED ANYTHING, I WAS JUST CRUISING ALONG. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, IT IS APPARENT THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AMONG THIS DESIGN OF THE SILVERADO. FORUM AFTER FORUM HAS OWNERS DESCRIBING THIS SAME ISSUE AND MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN THAT COULD END UP KILLING SOMEONE. HEADLIGHTS AND RUNNING LIGHTS THAT TURN OFF WITHOUT CAUSE? WHAT IF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS AFFECTED AND IT CAUSES A PREMATURE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT WHILE SOMEONE IS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED? THIS IS NOT AND ISOLATED ISSUE AND THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO STEP IN TO FORCE GENERAL MOTORS TO RECALL THIS VEHICLE ALONG WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT GENERAL MOTORS MAY BE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BECAUSE THE 2011 AND 2012 SILVERADOS HAVE HAD DESIGN CHANGES MADE TO THEIR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS.(I READ THIS IN FORUMS AS WELL.) *TR

LATER, HE COULD SMELL A BURNING SMELL, SIMILAR TO BURNING PLASTIC, FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE SOURCE. ON A LATER DATE, WHILE GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED A TWO INCH BURN HOLE NEAR THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED REPLACING THE DOOR HANDLE. THE DEALER COULD NOT PROVIDE A REASON AS TO WHY THE BURN HOLE WAS ON THE DOOR. THE DEALER FOUND THERE WERE WIRES THAT FAILED AND OVERHEATED, CAUSING THE DAMAGE TO THE DOOR. REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE DOOR AND THE LOCK ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED A SECOND TIME, UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 13,310.

I HEAR A HIGH PITCHED WHINING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD. VARIES WITH ENGINE RPM, VEHICLE CAN BE PARKED AND YOU'LL STILL HEAR IT. ONLY HAPPENS IN EXTREME COLD SITUATIONS, USUALLY SUB ZERO. I LIVE IN FAIRBANKS. OTHER THAN THE NOISE, VEHICLE OPERATES JUST FINE. IT CAN BE QUITE LOUD. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHILE IT'S HAPPENING. DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED CHANGING THE HEAT SETTING FROM FLOOR/DASH TO JUST FLOOR. THAT FIXES IT. APPARENTLY THIS ISN'T ENOUGH INFO FOR THEM AS THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO FIX.
