THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL, BUT FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO MANUEVER. ALSO, WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED, CROSSED OVER A RAILROAD TRACK, AND CRASHED INTO AN IRON FENCE AND A TELEPHONE POLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT KNEE AND WHIPLASH THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. IN ADDITION, THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED BRUISES, WHIPLASH, AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
I WAS SLOWING DOWN AS I WAS ENTERING AN INTERSECTION AND THERE WAS TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME. I SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES AND STRUCK THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. NONE OF THE OCCUPANTS OF EITHER VEHICLE WAS HURT, PER POLICE REPORT. ON MY WAY TO THE COLLISION CENTER NEAR HOME, THE CAB OF THE TRUCK FILLED SUDDENLY WITH VERY BLACK SMOKE, SO THICK I COULDN'T SEE AND HAD TO IMMEDIATELY TRY TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. BY THE TIME I GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THERE WERE FLAMES IN THE CAB AS WELL. WHEN I FINALLY GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK MY CLOTHES WERE ON FIRE. I WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL AND HAD TO BE TREATED FOR 1ST AND 2ND DEGREE BURNS OF THE FACE, SCALP, EYES, CALF, AND BOTH HANDS. MY RIGHT (DOMINANT) HAND WAS BURNED THE WORST, AS I HAD TRIED TO GET TO THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER I KEPT IN THE BACK. THE ENTIRE TRUCK BURNED EXCEPT THE LAST ROW OF SEATS (PARTIALLY BURNED) AND THE BACK DOOR. I AM STILL HAVING TO GO TO A WOUND CARE CENTER ON A WEEKLY BASIS, AND MY BANDAGES HAVE TO BE CHANGED DAILY. I HAD TO GET A FLAT-TOP HAIRCUT TO GET RID OF ALL MY HAIR BURNED OFF, AND I HAVE TO HAVE HELP FOR ALMOST EVERYTHING SINCE MY "GOOD" HAND WAS THE WORST INJURED. I HAVEN'T GOTTEN A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP SINCE, DUE TO PAIN AND NIGHTMARES ABOUT BURNING. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH MY 2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER WHERE THE 4X4 SELECTOR SWITCH WILL NOT WORK, OR WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WILL BE PUT INTO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WHILE THE SELECTOR SWITCH IS STILL TURNED ON TWO WHEEL DRIVE. THE SELECTOR SWITCH AT TIMES HAS NOT WORKED WHEN I WANTED TO MAKE THE VEHICLE GO INTO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. I HAVE FOUND OUT THE VEHICLE IS IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE BY HAVING A HARD TIME TURNING THE FRONT WHEELS AND SEEING THE FRONT TIRES SPIN ON LOOSE GRAVEL EVEN THOUGH I NEVER SWITCHED THE VEHICLE INTO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE AND THE SELECTOR SWITCH STATES IT'S STILL IN TWO WHEEL DRIVE BUT THE YELLOW LIGHT IS LIT UP THAT IT'S IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. I HAVE COMPLAINED MULTIPLE TIMES TO GM AND HAVE HAD THE SELECTOR SWITCH REPLACED 3 TIMES BUT IT STILL CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. EVERYTIME THAT GM LOOKS AT IT THEY SAY THAT IT IS WORKING JUST FINE. WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE A COUPLE DAYS LATER I NOTICED THE STEERING COLUMNS ABILITY TO TURN WAS VERY HARD AND MAKING LOUD NOISES. I FOUGHT CONTINUOUSLY WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX THE ISSUE AND FINALLY AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THEY AGREED TO FIX IT. THEN 2 MONTHS LATER WERE DRIVING MY SON TO THE AIRPORT AND THE CAR STOPPED AND BEGAN TO SMOKE, COME TO FIND OUT THE RADIATOR HAD A HOLE IN IT AND THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF TEMPORARY STOP LEAK STUFF PUT IN IT TO ALLOW A CONSUMER TO DRIVE FOR A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME BEFORE THE PROBLEM WOULD ARISE AGAIN. SO NOW MY FAMILY AND I ARE OUT OF TRANSPORTATION AND IM STILL PAYING A CAR NOTE ON THIS VEHICLE, I FEEL TOTALLY TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF AND WONDER HOW ANY DEALER CAN GO TO SLEEP AT NIGHT KNOWING THEY'VE BEEN DECEPTIVE IN THE SELLING OF A VEHICLE TO A FAMILY. I BOUGHT THE 2002 TRAILBLAZER ON FEBRUARY 2008 DROVE IT FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF TOTAL THE REST OF THE TIME IT HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED JUST ACCELERATED ONTO THE GAS HEARD A LOUD CRACK AND THE TRUCK SHOOK LIKE AN EARTHQUAKE HAD HIT, LOST ACCELERATION WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER THAN 30-35 MILES AN HOUR AND CAR WOULD NOT DISENGAGE FROM NEUTRAL AT FIRST AND THE WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE., BRAKES HAVE MADE A PULSATION FEELING AND THEY WERE DONE DAYS BEFORE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED AGAIN INCLUDING ROTORS A MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, THERE HAVE BEEN TOO MANY CRACKLING AND METALLIC TINGING NOISES THAT DON'T GO AWAY, THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE ENGAGES AND DISENGAGES ON IT'S OWN WHEN DRIVING 65-70 MILES AN HOUR. MY OWN PERSONAL VEHICLE, A 2002 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER, HAS A DEFECT WITH THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. THERE IS A LEAK FROM THE SEAM, FROM THE CASE ITSELF. A MECHANIC FRIEND STATED IT IS A DEFECT IN THE HOUSING ITSELF, THE "PUNKIN" (?) IT CAUSES LEAKS AND NEEDS TO HAVE FLUID CONSTANTLY ADDED. THE VEHICLE WAS PRIMARILY USED IN THE DENVER METRO AREA UNTIL THIS YEAR (IE, HIGH SALT/MAG CHLORIDE AREAS). THE HOUSING ITSELF NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND I WAS WONDERING/HOPING THIS WAS SOMETHING CHEVY NEEDS TO CORRECT VIA RECALL VERSUS SOMETHING THAT NORMALLY HAPPENS (WHICH I HAVE NEVER HAD ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE I'VE OWNED). TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED AT 55,000 MILES, NOT DRIVING CAR BUT WAS ABOUT TO RUN ERRANDS. HAVE HAD TO REPLACE POWER STEERING BLOCK, ALTERNATOR, STARTER, TAIL LIGHTS, INSTRUMENT PANEL, RADIO AND ELECTRIC ON A CAR THAT IS JUST OVER 5 YEARS OLD. I BROUGHT MY EXTENDED 2002 TRAILBLAZER IN TO THE DEALER FOR A RECALL ON THE REAR DOORS, A SEAL FOR THE BOTTOM. I THINK IT WAS FOR THE DOOR LATCH RUSTING OUT AND FLYING OPEN WHILE YOUR DRIVING. I TOLD THEM TO CHECK THE ABS BECAUSE THE WARNING LIGHT WAS ON. THEY SUPPOSEDLY CHECKED IT OUT AND TOLD ME THAT THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE HUB WAS VERY WOBBLY AND IT CAUSED THE SENSOR TO GO BAD. ME BEING A MECHANIC ALSO, DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO MY TRUSTED GARAGE AND TOLD THEM TO REPLACE THE HUB. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 45000 MILES ON IT AND I DIDN'T THINK THAT THIS PART SHOULD HAVE GONE BAD. SO I LEFT IT AT THE GARAGE AND ABOUT AN HR LATER I GOT A CALL FROM THEM SAYING THAT NOT ONLY THE HUB BUT BOTH LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE BAD, DRIVERS SIDE CONTROL ARM JOINT WAS READY TO FALL OFF, THIS STEERS THE WHEEL! AND THE BRAKE PADS THAT I JUST PUT ON ABOUT A YR AGO ARE WORN AT AN ANGLE. NOW MIND YOU, I JUST HAD THIS VEHICLE INSPECTED A YR AGO AND IT WAS FINE. ITS PRETTY EMBARRASSING TO HAVE AN ALMOST NEW VEHICLE GO IN THE SHOP AND NEED THE FRONT END REBUILT. THIS REALLY NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BECAUSE THE FRONT WHEEL COULD HAVE BROKEN OFF WHILE DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH STEERING PULLEY FAILED. VEHICLE LOST POWER. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE VEHICLE SWITCHES ITSELF INTO 4-WHEEL DRIVE WHILE THE MANUAL SWITCH IS IN 2-WHEEL DRIVE. THE TAILLIGHTS FAILED. AT NEW COMPUTER HAD TO BE INSTALLED. THE RACK AND PINION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
