TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT A SPEEDOMETER FAILURE. WHILE IDLING THE SPEEDOMETER READ 90 MPH. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS DAMAGED. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW 30 DEGREES THE STEERING COLUMN FROZE AND ACTIVATED THE HORN. THE HORN WILL NOT DEACTIVATE UNLESS THE FUSE WASREMOVED. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE, BUT THE PEDAL DROPPED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT MUST RELEASE AND DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 75,000, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. *AK
AFTER FUELING SMELLED A FUEL ODOR WHEN NONE WAS SPILLED.*AK
WE OWN A 2003 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER EXT. OUR VEHICLE HAS 58K MILES. WE NOTICED THIS YEAR, OUR VEHICLE HAS BEEN BURNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. A COUPLE OF EXAMPLES ARE DURING A 600 MILE TRIP OUR OIL CONSUMPTION WAS 5 QUARTS OF OIL. WE HAVE REGULAR OIL CHANGES EVERY 3,000 MILES. ANOTHER EXAMPLE RECENTLY INCLUDES 2,000 MILES AFTER AN OIL CHANGE WAS COMPLETED WE HAD TO ADD 2 1/2 QUARTS OF OIL. WE ARE RECEIVING BLACK SMOKE FROM THE EXPIRED IN 2006. *TR
ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO WHILE I WAS TRYING TO CLOSE THE GLASS REAR HATCH ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER IT EXPLODED IN MY FACE. I WAS CUT ON MY HANDS, FACE, AND GOT GLASS IN MY EYES. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER (ARROW CHEVROLET, NOW CALLED SUNRISE CHEVROLET, IN MIDLOTHIAN IL.) THE SERVICE DEPT. LOOKED AT THE DAMAGE AND SAID THEY NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THAT, (I FOUND OUT LATER THAT IT IS COMMON) THEY SENT THE VEHICLE OUT TO A "WINDOW REPAIR SHOP" TO HAVE THE GLASS REPLACED. WHEN I GOT THE CAR BACK, I NOTICED THAT THE WINDOW WAS NOT ALIGNED PROPERLY; THE SERVICE DEPT. LOOKED AT IT QUICKLY AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS FINE. THREE WEEKS AGO WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH A LOUD VIBRATION CAME FROM THE GLASS WINDOW HATCH, AS I SLOWED DOWN THE HIGH MOUNT REAR STOP TAIL LAMP ASSEMBLY, WHICH IS A LARGE FIBERGLASS BODY PIECE AS WIDE AS THE CAR AND 3 FEET ACROSS FLEW OFF MY CAR STRIKING A CAR IN BACK OF ME. I PULLED OVER AND SO DID THE OTHER DRIVER, THE OTHER DRIVER WAS VERY SHAKEN AS SO WAS I. SLIGHT DAMAGE TO THE HOOD AND THE BUMPER OF THE OTHER CAR AND HE SAID THAT IT WAS OK SINCE THE CAR WAS OLD. MY CAR NOW IS MISSING A LARGE PIECE OF THE BODY AND THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT. IT WAS RUN OVER BY A TRUCK... THE WINDOW COMPANY THAT REPLACED THE REAR HATCH WINDOW DID NOT AFFIX THE PANEL PROPERLY TO THE WINDOW; I HAVE SEEN MAY COMPLAINTS ON OTHER WEB SITE THAT THE FACTORY INSTALL AND THE DOUBLE FACE TAPE THAT IS USED MALFUNCTIONS ALL THE TIME, PLEASE HELP ME, WE ARE DEALING WITH TWO ISSUES HERE, THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODING AND INJURING ME AND THE FAULTY DOUBLE FACED TAPE THAT IS USED TO SECURE OUTSIDE PARTS TO THE CAR. IN ADDITION, THE ILLINOIS STATE POLICE STOPPED AND TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD HAVE GIVEN ME A TICKET FOR DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE BUT THEY GAVE ME A PASS AND TOLD ME TO WRITE TO YOU AND SEND THEM A COPY OF MY LETTER. *TR
EV COOLING FAN RUNS AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND DOES NOT DISENGAGE FOR SERVERAL MINUTES WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY DURING THIS PERIOD OF TIME. SINCE I AM UNABLE TO GET UP TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I FEEL I AM A SAFETY HAZARD TO OTHER DRIVERS THAT MUST SLOW DOWN UNTIL THEY CAN PASS OR I GET UP TO PROPER HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I WILL BE REPLACING THIS COMPONENT AT THE DEALER THEY GAVE ME THE FOLLOWING ESTIMATE: PART COST $350 AND LABOR COST $300. I WILL BE ASKING FOR THE OLD COMPONENT. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN OCCURING WITHOUT ANY WARNING. ONE MORNING IT JUST BEGAN OPERATING AT A HIGH RATE WHEN I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND AS STATED, CONTINUED FOR SERVERAL MINUTES.
MY 2003 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER EXT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND SAID THE CODE IT WAS PUTTING OUT WAS P0440 EVAP LEAK SMALL. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION THERE IS A SMALL FRACTURE ON THE GAS TANK WHERE THE FILLER NECK MEETS THE TANK ITSELF. I HAVE READ OF MANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS OF 2002 AND 2003 TRAILBLAZERS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD. ALTHOUGH THEY SAID NO FUEL WAS LEAKING OUT OF OURS, IT WAS LEAKING VAPOR. VAPOR SEEMS MORE DANGEROUS THAN AN ACTUAL FUEL LEAK. *JB
VEHICLE WOULD EMIT A STRONG FUEL ODOR UPON BEING STARTED. AFTER IDLING FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME SMALL PUDDLES OF GASOLINE WERE PRESENT BENEATH THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE DIRCTLY BELOW THE FUEL TANK.*AK
I OWN A 2003 TRAILBLAZER AND RECENTLY I BEGAN SMELLING LARGE AMOUNTS OF FUMES AND FUEL SPILLING ONTO THE GROUND WHEN FILLIING THE GAS TANK. FROM MY RESEARCH, I'VE FOUND THAT BASED ON THE SYMPTOMS LISTED ABOVE A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT ON THE GAS TANK WAS HONORED ON THE 2002 MODEL TRAILBLAZER BUT WAS NOT BEING ISSUED ON THE SAME DESIGN FLAW ON THE 2003 MODEL. IT WAS STATED THAT THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY HAZARD WHICH IS HARD FOR ME TO COME TO TERMS WITH. GM HAS STATED THAT IT WOULD COST $1200 TO BE REPAIRED AT THE CUSTOMER'S EXPENSE WHICH IS JUST UNACCEPTABLE SINCE THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM CARRIED OVER FROM THE 2002 MODEL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER EXT. THE CONTACT OPENED THE REAR HATCH AND HEARD A CRACKING NOISE COMING FROM THE TOP. APPROXIMATELY THREE TO FOUR DAYS LATER THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE CENTER HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP BRACKET FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER SIMMONS-ROCKWELL CHEVROLET. THE DEALER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS TYPICAL FOR THAT TYPE OF VEHICLE AND WAS INDEED A SAFETY ISSUE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENTIRE CENTER HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP COULD BECOME DETACHED WHILE DRIVING AND STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FOUND ANOTHER COMPLAINT ONLINE WITH ODI # 10061979. THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER, AND WAS GIVEN CASE # 71-500170558. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL SYSTEM FAILED. IN JANUARY OF 2007, THE CONTACT DETECTED AN AROMA OF GAS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE ODOR BECAME INCREASINGLY POTENT, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS CORRODED AND LEAKED. AND THE DEALER QUOTED A REPAIR PRICE OF $800. THE FUEL PUMP FILTER WAS REPAIRED, AND AFTER SERIOUS NEGOTIATIONS, THE CONTACT WAS ONLY REQUIRED TO PAY $196.00. THE CONTACT SEARCHED ONLINE ,AND FOUND AN OPEN INVESTIGATION , PE07013 FROM NHTSA DATED MARCH 12, 2007 FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,229. *AK
I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER W/ 69016 MILES. MY SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON SO I TOOK IT INTO BILL HEARD CHEVROLET WHERE THE VEH WAS PURCHASED TO CHECK THE REASON FOR THE LIGHT. I WAS ADVISED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THIS WAS DUE TO A LEAK IN THE GAS TANK AND THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $1000. I TOOK THE VEHICLE HOME TO HAVE A SECOND OPINION DONE AND DO FURTHER RESEARCH ON THE PROBLEM. I HAVE FOUND DOING A GOOGLE SEARCH THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2002-2005 CHEVR TRAILBLAZER. SO I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT THEIR HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS AND THAT GM IS NOT ANTICIPATING TO HAVE ONE. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD AND MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. HOW CAN THIS NOT BE RECALLED? *NM
I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GAS WHEN CHECKING THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRES. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE SUV I NOTICED THE TANK WAS DRIPPING GAS AND WAS VERY WET. I WAS IN A SMALL TOWN ON A TRIP WITH NO ACCESS TO PARTS SO A LOCAL SHOP HAD TO REMOVE THE TANK, TAKE THE SENDING UNIT APART, AND REPAIR THE RUSTED AND LEAKING SENDING UNIT IN ORDER TO SAFELY GET ME HOME.*AK
FUEL FILLER NECK ON GAS TANK ON 2003 TRAILBLAZER EXT WITH 61000 MILES IS CRACKED AND LEAKING GAS. PLASTIC FUEL TANK NEEDS REPLACEMENT COST CLOSE TO $1000 TO REPLACE TANK. RESEARCHED ON INTERNET AND FOUND SEVERAL INCIDENTS AND SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK. *NM
2003 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER MECHANICAL PROBLEMS DUE TO FAN CLUTCH DEFECT. **CW**
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY. SPEEDOMETER WOULD REGISTER VARIOUS MPH WHILE VEHICLE STOPPED, CAN ONLY GUESS HOW FAST VEHICLE IS ACTUALLY TRAVELING WHEN MOVING. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP, DIAGNOSTICS RUN, QUOTED $390 TO REPLACE, INCLUDING A CHARGE FOR PROGRAMMING NEW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. TEMPORARILY RESET. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT REGISTERING THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF FUEL. OCCASIONALLY, THE GAUGE WOULD INDICATE THAT NO FUEL WAS PRESENT IN THE VEHICLE AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE AT THAT TIME. ONE YEAR LATER, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE, ACTUATOR ON THE AIR CONDITIONING/HEATING SYSTEM, AND THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE ACTUATOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $720. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE PROVIDED BECAUSE THE FAILURE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000. UPDATED 4/23/09 *CN UPDATED 04/28/09. *JB
2003 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER LTZ; 71, 000 MILES. SPEEDOMETER STOPPED AND STARTED AT 70 MPH WHILE I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. LATER THAT DAY IT DROPPED TO 50 MPH AS THE STARTING AND STOPPING POINT EVEN WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. IF AN ACCIDENT HAD OCCURRED, WHAT SPEED WAS BEING RECORDED IN THE VEHICLE'S BLACK BOX? THE CHEVROLET DEALER SAYS I HAVE TO REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THIS WOULD COST ABOUT $500. VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I HAVE NOTIFIED GM. *JB
TL*- ON FEBRUARY 5, 2007 THE 2003 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER EXT'S SERVICE LIGHT TURNED ON. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DESERT PONTIAC GMC IN HENDERSON, NEVADA. THE SERVICE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A FUEL FILTER CAP AND FUEL FILTER HOSE VAPOR LEAK, NO VISIBLE GASOLINE LEAKED AT THIS TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS $900. THE CONTACT WANTED TO FILE A COMPLAINT SINCE THERE SEEMS TO BE SERVICE BULLETIN #20050577, AND NHTSA ITEMS #10141760, #10149536, IN WHICH CHEVROLET ACKNOWLEDGES THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 38000 MILES.
FUEL LEAK AND STRONG FUEL ODOR FROM LEFT REAR FILLER NECK AREA. MY VEHICLE STARTED HAVING THIS PROBLEM A FEW DAYS AGO AND A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH TURNED UP LOTS OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS A GREAT RISK OF FIRE WITH POTENTIAL FOR INJURY/DEATH AND OF COURSE PROPERTY DAMAGE. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED ASAP! *JB EMAIL UPDATE (FEBRUARY 07, 2007): THE LEAK IS FROM THE FUEL PUMP/FUEL SENDER MODULE THAT ENTERS THE TANK. AN EPOXY REPAIR WAS MADE. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF TRADING THIS VEHICLE IN. WE LIVE IN UPSTATE NY WHERE A GREAT DEAL OF SALT IS USED IN WINTER. IT SEEMS THE DESIGN OF THIS TANK ALLOWS A BRINE SOLUTION TO SIT IN A RECESS WHERE THE FUEL PUMP/SENDER MODULE LIVES AND CORRODES THE COMPONENTS. FROM MY INTERNET RESEARCH I FOUND A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IF THE VEHICLE IS GARAGED.
2003 CHEV TRAILBLAZER 52,000 MILES. FUEL SPRAYING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE WHEN IT IS RUNNING. DIAGNOSED AS FUEL PUMP HOUSING CORRODED. COMPLAINT FILED WITH CHEVROLET FOR WARRANTY REPLACEMENT. REQUEST DENIED, HAD PUMP REPLACED AT LOCAL SHOP. DID NOT KEEP OLD PART, CAN GET AFFIDAVIT FROM REPAIR SHOP. *TR
HAVE A 2003 CHEVY TRAIL BLAZER AND THE GAS TANK IS LEAKING FROM THE TOP. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS A TSB # 05012 OUT ON THIS ISSUE. I HAD RECENTLY BEEN AT MY DEALER TO GET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CHECKED. THEY SAID THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE COMPRESSOR RIGHT AWAY. WELL THAT WAS OVER A YEAR AGO AND IT IS STILL WORKING JUST FINE..THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. SEEMS THERE ARE A LOT OF US OUT THERE WHO HAVE THIS LEAKING GAS TANK PROBLEM. *TR
ABS SYSTEM SHORTED OUT AND WOULD REMAIN ON EVEN AFTER ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF. THE ABS PUMP AND CONTROL UNIT HAD TO BE REPLACED. (NOT UNDER WARRANTY)WAS TOLD THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. *JB
SINCE JULY 2006, MILEAGE 49,000, WE HAVE HAD OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON MANY TIMES FOR THE SAME CODE. AFTER MANY TRIPS TO THE GARAGE, AND MANY THINGS REPLACED, ON JAN 31, 2007, MILEAGE 55,802, THE DEALER TOLD US THAT I SHOULD NOT DRIVE IT HOME AS IT COULD BE A FIRE HAZARD AS THERE WERE CRACKS ALL OVER THE TOP PART OF THE GAS TANK BY THE FILLER HOSE. A NEW TANK WAS PUT ON AND COST CAME TO $832.74. I SPOKE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE AT GM AND THEY SAID GM WOULD DO NOTHING FOR REIMBURSEMENT. SINCE THEN, I HAVE SEEN MANY VEHICLES POSTED ON THE WEB THAT HAVE HAD TO HAVE THERE TANKS REPLACED. IF THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND FIRE HAZARD, WHY IS THIS NOT BECOMING A RECALL, AND WHY IS GM NOT BEING HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OF THIS? I DON'T THINK A VEHICLE WITH 49,000 MILES ON SHOULD HAVE TO HAVE A TANK REPLACED. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. *JB
I STARTED TO DO A 3 POINT TURN AND WHEN I WENT TO PUT MY VEHICLE IN REVERSE, THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK AND I NO LONGER HAD REVERSE AND WOULD MAKE AN AWFUL SOUND WHEN I TRIED. I COULD DRIVE IT FORWARD, BUT IT WOULDN'T SHIFT OUT OF LOW GEAR, DRIVING THE RPMS WAY UP. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. TOOK IT TO A GM DEALERSHIP AND THEY GAVE ME THE CHOICE OF A REBUILD OR REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. I CHOSE TO REPLACE BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE A LONGER WARRANTY. THE WARRANTY ON THIS WAS 36000 MILES... IT HAD 42800. CURRENTLY CONVERSING WITH GM TO TRY AND GET THEM TO COVER SOME OF THE EXPENSE. *JB
3RD BRAKE LIGHT APLIQUE
1) THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL COMING FROM IN AND AROUND THE VEHICLE 2)THE LINES ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK ON THE FUEL SENDING UNIT WERE ROTTED AFTER 60K MILES 3)THE FUEL SENDING UNIT AND THE LINES WERE REPLACED ($900 DOLLARS TOTAL). *NM
WHEN DRIVING @ SPEEDS OVER 60 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD JUST KEEP GOING UNTIL THE NEEDLE WAS POINTING STRAIGHT DOWN. IT WOULD THEN STICK AT ABOUT 70 MPH, AND THEN EACH TIME YOU WOULD TURN THE VEHICLE ON, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD GO DOWN 5 MPH, AND EVENTUALLY RESET ITSELF. *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PUT GAS INTO HIS 2003 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER (FAILED MILEAGE 26521) THE GAS WOULD NOT ENTER THE TANK. THE GAS WOULD SPILL BACK OUT ONTO THE GROUND. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TWICE MORE WITH THE SAME RESULTS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER INFORMED HIM THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE HOSE AND THE FUEL FILTER. THE CONTACT IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER 040604003. *JB
I OWN A 2003 TRAILBLAZER SWB MODEL. I STARTED TO SMELL GAS. SEEING THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, I WAITED UNTIL IT GOT WARM TO CHECK IT OUT. WHEN I TOOK OUT THE GAS TANK THERE WAS A PIN HOLE IN THE RETURN ON THE BASE OF THE SENDING UNIT. SO I CLEANED IT OFF WITH A WIRE BRUSH AND FOUND MORE PIN HOLES. I BELONG TO A TRAILBLAZER FORUM, AND THIS SEEMED TO BE A MORE PREVALENT PROBLEM THEN IT SHOULD BE.*AK
MY 2003 TRAILBLAZER EXT SMELL OF FUMES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN THE FIRST CASE THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEED A NEW GAS TOP AND A SEAL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIKE CAME ON AGAIN THIS TIME THEY TELL ME THAT THE FUEL TANK AT THE SPROUT HAS A LEAK AND I NEED A NEW GAS TANK. *JB
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER. IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 62,000 MILES ON IT. THE GAS TANK HAS A LEAK CAUSING A SES CODE OF P0442. THIS TYPE OF BREAKAGE HAS BEEN REPORTED BEFORE AND IS WELL DOCUMENTED. THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS FAILURE. THEY CLAIM IT IS DUE TO THE "AGE OF THE CAR". I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT IT IS ACCEPTABLE FOR A GAS TANK TO WEAR OUT IN 3 AND 1/2 YEARS! FIRST REAR A/C STOPPED WORKING AND REPAIRED BUT STOPPED WORKING LESS THAN A YEAR LATER. GAS GAUGE STOPPED REGISTERING AMOUNT LEFT SO NOW WE GO BY FILL UPS AND RESET MILEAGE EACH TIME. REAR BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES BECAUSE OF MELTING IN SOCKETS AND NOW RIGHT TURN SIGNAL WON'T WORK BC THERE IS PROBLEM WITH SOCKET AGAIN. I PURCHASED A USED VEHICLE FROM UPSTATE CHEVROLET IN ATTICA NY 14011 AND THE SECOND MONTH OF OWNERSHIP THIS VEHICLE WAS LEAKING GASOLINE. THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING PUSHING GASOLINE OUT. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR $670 ALL AT MY COST. CHECKING WITH A PARTS STORE IT WAS FOUND TO BE A PROBLEM THAT IS COMMON OF THESE VEHICLES. MY VEHICLE IS LESS THAN FOUR YEARS OLD. 1) BEGAN TO NOTICE A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE WHEN TRAVELING IN AUTO. THIS SMELL BECAME STRONGER WHEN VEHICLE WAS PARKED. ALSO HAD A "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. WHEN LOOKING UNDER CAR FOR LEAK OF GASOLINE, SMELL WAS STRONGER NEAR FUEL TANK. THE SMELL WAS SO STRONG THAT I WAS AFRAID TO LEAVE AUTO IN GARAGE AT MY HOME FOR FEAR OF A FIRE. 2) AUTO WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR FACILITY FOR "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT AND GAS SMELL. THEY DISCOVERED A LEAK IN THE GAS TANK AT THE PLASTIC WELD OF THE NIPPLE THAT CONNECTS TO THE FILLER TUBE. THEY STATED THAT THERE SEEMED TO BE A FAILURE AT THE WELD OR AN INCOMPLETE WELD FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL TANK. 3) THIS REPAIR WAS COMPLETED BY THE REPAIR FACILITY ON 12/28/2006 I HAVE ACCESS TO THIS PART FOR INSPECTION. *JB
CHEVROLET 2003 TRAILBLAZER: NOTICED A LARGE PUDDLE IN DRIVEWAY, WHICH WAS GASOLINE. STARTED SUV UP AND THE GAS JUST POURED OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON MY 2003 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER LS WOULD CONTINUOUSLY OPERATE ONCE ACTIVATED AND WOULD NOT STOP UNLESS THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF. INSPECTION BY A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FOUND THAT WATER HAD GOTTEN INTO THE WIPER MOTOR AND SHORTED IT OUT. CHEVROLET HAD ISSUED A RECALL (04V046000) FOR THIS EXACT MALFUNCTION IN 2004. HOWEVER, THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR THE MALFUNCTION AS SHOULD BE REQUIRED AS THE MALFUNCTION WAS THE FAULT OF THE MANUFACTURER. CHEVROLET CLAIMED THAT MY CAR'S VIN WAS NOT IDENTIFIED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH IT AND COULDN'T BE REPAIRED AT THEIR EXPENSE. THIS EXPLANATION IS CLEARLY RIDICULOUS AS THE MALFUNCTION I WAS EXPERIENCING WAS THE EXACT TYPE THEY HAD IDENTIFIED FOR THAT MAKE/MODEL/YEAR. WHILE NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, THE MALFUNCTION OF THE WIPER IN A CRITICAL MOMENT SUCH AS DURING A STORM COULD HAVE CAUSED PROBLEMS. I OWN A 2003 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER EXT. I SMELLED A STRONG ODOR OF GAS EMANATING FROM MY VEHICLE RECENTLY. AFTER SOME INVESTIGATING, I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS FUEL LEAKING OUT OF THE TOP OF MY FUEL TANK ONLY WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING. I DROPPED THE FUEL TANK AND DISCOVERED THAT THE METAL NIPPLES FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP THAT CONNECT THE FUEL LINES TO THE FUEL PUMP WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING, FUEL WAS JETTING ALL OVER THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF MY VEHICLE. THE METAL RING THAT HOLDS THE FUEL PUMP TO THE TANK WAS ALSO SEVERELY RUSTED. GM SHOULD KNOW BETTER THAN TO PUT EXPOSED METAL FITTINGS IN A RECESSED TANK WHERE IT IS SUBJECT TO RUST, SALT, CORROSION ETC. I HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP AT A SIGNIFICANT COST. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THIS COULD BE A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD AS THE FUEL WAS JETTING ALL OVER THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND ITS PROXIMITY TO THE EXHAUST. MY FITTINGS WERE SO BRITTLE THAT YOU COULD CRUSH THEM WITH YOUR BARE HANDS. LEFT UNCHECKED, UNDOUBTEDLY I WOULD HAVE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER AND WOULD HAVE BEEN A HAZARD TO THE OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD-YET ALONE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED WHEN THE VEHICLE DIED. THE OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. A FUEL PUMP SHOULD LAST MORE THAT (3) YEARS IN MY OPINION. THIS IS A DESIGN AND/OR PRODUCT FAILURE. *JB

I VIEW THIS ISSUE TO BE A MANUFACTURES DEFECT AND ESCALATED THE MATTER TO CHEVY. THEY ARE OFFERING A 50% REBATE TO FIX. I DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD PAY FOR THIS DEFECT.
