IN MARCH 2014 OWNER NOTED A PROBLEM WITH THE HVAC SYSTEM - NO HEAT WAS DELIVERED TO THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR VENTS OR HEATER VENTS IN COLD WEATHER. DURING ROUTINE OIL CHANGE MECHANIC NOTED SEVERE DISCOLORATION OF ENGINE COOLANT AND BUILDUP UP SLUDGE IN COOLANT EXPANSION TANK. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. DEALER STATED THAT THE COOLANT HAD BEEN CONTAMINATED WITH THE ADDITION OF THE WRONG TYPE OF COOLANT. PER CHRYSLER STAR # S1207000008, DEALER FLUSHED COOLANT SYSTEM MULTIPLE TIMES AND COMMENTED THAT IF THAT DIDN'T WORK THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE HEATER CORE, RADIATOR, OIL COOLER, AND EXPANSION TANK. WHEN REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED OWNER NOTED THAT THE TEMPERATURE OUTPUT FROM THE AIR AND HEATER VENTS WAS 20 DEGREES LOWER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THAN THE DRIVER SIDE. DEALER STATED THAT REPAIRS WERE COMPLETE. OWNER IS IN PROCESS OF CONTACTING CHRYSLER TO HAVE HEATER CORE AND RADIATOR REPLACED. *TR
BRAKES ROTORS BUSHINGS ENGINE HAS WHINE AND WHAT SOUNDS LIKE A MISS CLICKING NOISE ON START UP, CLICKING WHEN TURNING IGNITION KEY WITHOHT STARTING COMPLETELY, AND CLICKS WHEN TURNING KEY OFF. SALESMAN SAYS HE CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THE 200 CAR IS MADE TO VEER TO THE RIGHT TO STOP DRIVER WHO MIGHT ACCIDENTALLY GO TO SLEEP FROM ENTERING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. DEALERSHIP SAID CALL WARRANTY. HAD THIS 2012 CAR A WITH 46K THAT WAS A RENTAL FOR A FEW DAYS SO FAR ITS ENGINE IS QUITE NOISY. CALLING WARRANTY COMPANY TO MAKE APPT TO HAVE CAR CHECKED OUT. *JS
TODAY, WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE TRAVELING AT 60MPH, ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. COULD HEAR THE ENGINE TRYING TO ACCELERATE BUT THE CAR KEPT SLOWING DOWN. DID NOT SEE ANY LIGHTS (ENGINE) LIGHT UP ON THE DASH TO INDICATE A PROBLEM. PULLED INTO EMERGENCY LANE, STOPPED AND TURNED ENGINE OFF; RESTARTED CAR AND IT HAS NOT OCCURRED AGAIN TODAY. *TR
SOON AFTER I PURCHASED MY 2012 CHRYSLER 200 S THE REAR SAFETY BELTS BEGAN LOCKING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE LOCK WAS SO HARSH THAT THE BELT WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED AND REAPPLIED. THE RESTRAINT HAS CONTINUOUSLY LOCKED CAUSING THE PASSENGER TO BE PINNED TO HIS OR HER SEAT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ALMOST EVERY TIME THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE REAR RESTRAINT NO MATTER THE SPEED THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING. *TR
WIPERS ONLY WORK ON HIGH. WIPER MOTOR SHORTED TO GROUND CAUSING INTERNAL COLLATERAL DAMAGE TO TIPM. REMOVED AND REPLACED WIPER MOTOR. REMOVED AND REPLACED TIPM AND UPDATED SOFTWARE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER 200. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, SHE WAS REAR ENDED AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DRIVER'S HEAD STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL AND AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT SUSTAINED TOOTH TRAUMA AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THERE WAS NO DIAGNOSIS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,000. UPDATED 06/22/15. *JB
NOTIFICATION FOR RECALL 16V-668 WITH NO SOLUTION INVOLVING PRETENSIONER AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT WHERE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY WAS REPORTED 2 YEARS PRIOR TO OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION OF RECALL 16V-668. THIS WAS DUE TO A FRONT-END CRASH IN 2014 WHERE THERE WERE TWO PASSENGERS AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CRASH INVOLVED A NOSE DIVE GOING APPROXIMATELY 40MPH INTO A 2-STORY GULLY DIRECTLY HITTING A LARGE OAK TREE WITH NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. THIS CRASH AND THE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING WAS REPORTED TO ASHEBORO CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN 2014 WITH NO SOLUTION OR KNOWLEDGE OF ISSUE. OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION WAS PROVIDED IN DECEMBER 2016 THROUGH THE USPS. *TR
THIS IS FRUSTRATING. I'VE BEEN TO TWO DEALERSHIPS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE RATTLING STEERING COLUMN. BOTH DEALERSHIPS STATE THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. WENT TO BRAKEMASTERS FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE MECHANIC SAID THE RATTLING IS COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. BOTH TIMES AT THE DEALERSHIPS THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I'M OVER THE 3 YEAR MARK NOW AND NO WARRANTY. WHAT CAN BE DONE? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER 200. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT A FAILURE CODE COULD NOT BE LOCATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,460.
CAN SEE BUBBLING THRU PAINT ON ENGINE HOOD TOOK TO DEALER WAS TOLD ALUMINUM HOOD IS CORRODING
THERE IS LOW HEAT OUTPUT FROM THE HEATER VENTS DUE TO THE HEATER CORE PLUGGING UP WITH "SLUDGE" AS CHRYSLER CALLS IT. THERE IS A CHRYSLER STAR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE HOTLINE CASE, NUMBER S1207000008 EXPLAINING HEATER CORE RESTRICTION DUE TO SLUDGE CAUSING POOR HEATER SYSTEM PERFORMANCE. IT IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH A LARGE NUMBER OF CHRYSLER 200 AND DODGE AVENGERS WHICH I AM SURE CAN BE VERIFIED BY CHRYSLER. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE A RECALL, OR AT LEAST AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ISSUE. THE STAR CASE STATES TO REPLACE THE HEATER CORE, RADIATOR, RADIATOR CAP AND REVERSE FLUSH THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IF THE CUSTOMER COMPLAINT CAN BE VERIFIED BY THE TECHNICIAN, HOWEVER IT DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE ACTUAL CAUSE OF THE SLUDGE. THE SYMPTOM FIRST NOTICED IS LITTLE OR NO HEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THEN PROGRESSIVELY LOWER HEAT OUTPUT THE MORE PLUGGED THE HEATER CORE BECOMES AS TIME GOES ON. I BELIEVE IN COLD CLIMATES THIS COULD ALSO CAUSE THE WINDSHIELD TO STAY ICED OVER, OR BECOME ICED OVER AS YOU DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD DUE TO WIND CHILL FACTOR OF THE VEHICLE SPEED. IT COULD ALSO BE AGGRAVATED BY THE FACT THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER RUNS WITH THE HEATER ON DEFROST ( TO DRY INTERIOR AIR IN ORDER TO DE-FOG THE WINDSHIELD IN HUMID OR RAINY WEATHER) WHICH FURTHER COOLS THE ALREADY COLD AIR COMING FROM THE DEFROSTER VENT IF THE HEATER CORE EVENTUALLY BECOMES COMPLETELY PLUGGED. IN HOT CLIMATES, THE HEATER CORE STILL PLUGS UP, HOWEVER THE CUSTOMER MAY NEVER NOTICE THE SYMPTOMS. I ALSO HAPPEN TO BE CHRYSLER ACADEMY MASTER CERTIFIED IN ALL CORE CURRICULUM, POWERTRAIN, ELECTRICAL AND CHASSIS. FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING MY CAR FISHTAILING BADLY IN WINTER WEATHER. IN THE SLIGHTEST SNOW FALL OR ICE IT FISHTAILS SO BADLY CAUSING ME TO SLOW DOWN TO SPEEDS AROUND 35 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I FIRST NOTICED IT I THOUGHT IT WAS MY TIRES AND ALIGNMENT SO I HAD BOUGHT NEW WINTER TIRES AND HAD THE ALIGNMENT REDONE BUT AFTER DRIVING IT SOON AFTER I REALIZED THAT IT DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. SO I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE ADDING SOME WEIGHT WOULD HELP BUT IT DANGEROUSLY GOT WORSE. TONIGHT I WAS DRIVING AND HIT A SLIGHT PATCH OF ICE AND IT FISHTAILED SO VIOLENTLY I ALMOST WENT OFF THE ROAD AND ALMOST CAUSED A SEMI TRUCK TO CRASH JUST TO AVOID ME. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE BY ANY STANDARDS OF WINTER WEATHER DRIVING. EVEN A FRIEND OF MINE WHO IS AN AUTO MECHANIC AGREES THAT THIS VEHICLE ISN'T SAFE. IT FEELS AS IF THE REAR SUSPENSION IS LOOSE BUT WHEN INSPECTED I WAS TOLD EVERYTHING WAS FINE. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. I USE TO DRIVE A TOYOTA YARIS THAT DID WAY BETTER IN WINTER WEATHER THAN THIS AND MIND YOU IT ONLY HAD THE FACTORY TIRES. THANK YOU. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY HAD NO IDEA WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE REPAIR WAS NOT TAKEN CARE OF IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
PURCHASE NEW OFF THE CHRYSLER DEALER LOT APRIL 2012.THERE ARE THREE KNOBS THAT CONTROL THE HEATING AND COOLING IN THE CAR WHEN THE BLOWER IS TURNED TO A LOW SETTING IT WILL BLOW HOT AIR REGARDLESS OF TEMPERATURE THAT IS SELECTED FOR EXAMPLE IF IT IS SITTING AT 66DEGREES IT WILL BLOW EXTREMELY HOT AIR AND ONLY IF THE BLOWER IS SET TO MAX WILL IT EVENTUALLY COOL DOWN TO THE SELECTED TEMPERATURE. ONCE THE COOLER TEMPERATURE IS ACQUIRED, IF THE BLOWER IS TURNED DOWN IT WILL EVENTUALLY GO BACK TO BLOWING ONLY REALLY HOT AIR REGARDLESS OF TEMPERATURE SETTING. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE A REAR END WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED AND THE TOW WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.

I MADE A COMPLAINT FEBRUARY 12,2013 TO BAKERSFIELD CHRYSLER - JEEP ABOUT MY BRAKES SQUEALS AND MY TIRES ALWAYS DISPLAY LOW PRESSURE. SERVICE DEALER SAID THERE IS NOTHING TO FIX THEY SQUEAL BECAUSE OF DIRT AND THEY ARE WET AND TIRES NEED MORE AIR BECAUSE OF WEATHER CHANGE. I BROUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW. I SENT A FORMAL WRITTEN LETTER ADDRESSED TO NHTSA, PLUS DOCUMENTS THAT WILL SUBSTANTIATE MY SITUATION. UPDATED 03/13/14
VEHICLE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. VEHICLE STALLED AND PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD. HAPPENED 5 TIMES IN 16 MILE TRIP. THIS OCCURRED WHEN VEHICLE HAS 18-20000 MILES REQUIRING TOWING OF VEHICLE. AT THAT TIME, REPAIR INVOLVED WIRING REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT OF SLEEVE. THE PROBLEM HAS CLEARLY RECURRED. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT FORWARD, IN THE RIGHT LANE OF A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY (TWO LANES IN EITHER DIRECTION). EXCESSIVE "FISH TAILING" IN MINIMAL SNOWY CONDITIONS, VERY UNSTABLE, ABSOLUTE DEATH TRAP. I FELT LIKE I WAS GOING TO END UP SMASHING INTO A PASSING CAR OR TRUCK . DROVE FOR 30 MILES PER HOUR FOR 260 MILES WHILE THERE WASN'T MORE THAN ONE INCH ON SNOW ON THE GROUND BECAUSE THE REAR END OF THE CAR WAS SWING IN ALL DIRECTIONS, MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER TERRIFIED. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR BACK IN AUGUST 2013 THUS A FEW MONTHS AGO AND HAD NO ISSUES DRIVING ON DRY GROUND BUT ONLY IN SNOW AND WET CONDITIONS. *TR
MY COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS VEHICLE IS THE HEADLIGHTS. THEY ARE AIMED TO LOW, DO NOT PROJECT OUT FAR ENOUGH AND THE LOW BEAM APPEARS TO HAVE A DARK 'SHADE' OR 'CUTOFF' AT THE VERY TOP OF THE LIGHT BEAM. I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE AND I ATTRIBUTE IT TO THE ONE BULB SYSTEM WITH A 'SHUTTER' THIS MODEL USES FOR LOW AND HIGH BEAMS. THE HIGH BEAM IS DOING WHAT THE LOW BEAM SHOULD BE DOING. LOW BEAMS ARE COMPLETELY USELESS IN HEAVY FOG, THIS IS CONTRARY TO EVERY OTHER VEHICLE I'VE OWNED. WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, I MUST RESORT TO HIGH BEAMS WHEN I SHOULDN'T NEED TO. THIS IS ESPECIALLY A FACTOR WHEN DESCENDING HILLS AND DRIVING THROUGH TURNS AND CORNERS. THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE LAST THREE VEHICLES I'VE OWNED WERE FAR SUPERIOR IN EVERY WAY COMPARED TO THE HEADLIGHTS IN THE 2012 CHRYSLER 200 TOURING MODEL SEDAN. I TOOK THE CAR TO A AAA SHOP IN GLEN BURNIE, MD, THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID AN ADJUSTMENT WOULD PROBABLY NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE AND THE COST WAS NEARLY $55.00. I HAVE NOT TAKEN THE CAR TO A CHRYSLER DEALER BECAUSE I WAS QUOTED $115.00 FOR AN 'ADJUSTMENT'. I LIKE THIS CAR OTHERWISE AND I DON'T WANT TO TRADE IT IN JUST BECAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS ARE LOUSY; THEY SHOULD BE A LOT BETTER THAN THEY ARE. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF POSTS ON THE INTERNET OF OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS MODEL AS ME. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED IN MARCH OF 2012 AND IT NOW HAS 38,500 MILES. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS TO CHRYSLER REGARDING THE VEHICLE NOT ACCELERATING WHEN IT SHOULD AND NOT GOING OVER 35MPH AT TIMES. WHEN THE VEHICLE WON'T ACCELERATE THE 6 SPEED DOES NOT WORK EITHER. I HAD TO CUT ACROSS 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO EXIT. I TOLD THEM THAT WASN'T POSSIBLE SINCE I HADN'T DRIVEN THE CAR IN 2 DAYS AND THE DISTANCE FROM MY HOUSE TO THE ON-RAMP WAS PROBABLY LESS THAN A MILE. THE GUY THEN TOLD ME THAT IF I STARTED IT UP, AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE BETTER I COULD TAKE IT SINCE IT WAS A SATURDAY AND THE ONLY SERVICE TECHS THEY HAD COULD ONLY PERFORM OIL CHANGES. I CALLED THE DEALER FROM WORK, AND SCHEDULED TO DROP IT OFF THE NEXT MORNING SINCE THAT WAS THEIR NEXT AVAILABILITY. THE GUY SAID HE'LL HAVE TO KEEP IT UNTIL THE PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN. I STATED THAT WOULD BE INCONVENIENT SINCE THEY DON'T DO LOANER CARS, AND THE LAST TIME THE PROBLEM HAPPENED WAS ABOUT 3K MILES AGO. THIS CAUSES A DISTINCT, VISIBLE HORIZONTAL BLACK-OUT LINE ACROSS THE ILLUMINATION AND LEAVES LITTLE TO NO ILLUMINATION ON THE ROADWAY ESPECIALLY ON RURAL ROADS BEYOND CITY LIGHTING! WHEN CAR GOES DOWN-GRADE, THIS BLACKOUT LINE DIPS TO COVER THE ROADWAY COMPLETELY IN FRONT OF THE CAR CAUSING TOTAL DARKNESS MOMENTARILY. THIS AND NO CORNER LIGHTING IS VERY DANGEROUS AND WILL EVENTUALLY AT SOME POINT COST A LIFE! THERE ALSO IS NO SIDE OR CORNER ILLUMINATION IN LOW-BEAM NOR IN HIGH-BEAM. MY 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA GETS 23 MPG WITH THE SAME TYPE OF CITY DRIVING. THERE ARE PEOPLE COMPLAINING ALL OVER THE WEB ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE FUEL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. CHRYSLER SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM AND DO A RECALL. MINIMUM THEY SHOULD INSTALL AN ECO MODE BUTTON TO BRING THE MPG UP TO THE ADVERTISED MPG. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT POINTS SHOULD BE LOWERED SO THE ENGINE DOES NOT REV TO 3000 RPMS ON EVERY SHIFT. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT THE V6 VERSION GETS BETTER MPG. THE CONTACT ACTIVATED THE HIGH BEAMS IN ORDER FOR THE FULL LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE THE ROADWAY. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LIGHTS WERE OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,500.
