NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2016 Chrysler 300. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact purchased a 2016 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that shortly after purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle was taken to a dealer for several repairs, and the contact was concerned that there was a mileage discrepancy as per a Carfax Report. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the mileage was 117,338; however, the Carfax Report indicated that the mileage was 156,268 in February 2017. The Carfax Report also stated that the odometer had previously been tampered with in 2017 and indicated a mileage of 5,093 instead of 7,542. The contact stated that currently the approximate mileage was 166,801.
Notified by repair shop that my vehicle is experiencing identical problems with the fuel rail and fuel injector that was recalled for Mercedes in my class and year, but the dealer says my VIN is not applicable currently. Recall campaign number is 2022030003 and NHSTSA ID is 21V961. Was informed by dealer to call customer care at Mercedes, and subsequently informed by Mercedes to fill out this form.
The oil filter housing w/sender unit leaks oil under the upper intake plemun. The oil filter Chrysler installed in the vehicle is plastic.

The contact's son owns a 2016 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that the horn was inoperable. Additionally, the contact stated while her son was driving 60-65 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality inadvertently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the driver was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact stated that the driver turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the power steering became functional. The contact stated that the driver was able to drive to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the failure could not be duplicated, and the contact was referred to the dealer. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.
Have been having power steering problems over the past few years. Started by displaying a shift to park message while driving, my car would then lose power and shut down completely and power steering would lock up. Have taken to dealerships and independent mechanics and was told it was the wiring harness which they repaired several times and the car continued to have the issue. Approximately 3 months ago I was driving 55mph on highway when suddenly without any warning, the power steering failed and locked up making it very difficult to turn the wheel to get the vehicle off the highway safely. The power steering locking up put myself, my passengers and other drivers at risk bc I had no control over the steering. When I got the vehicle off of the highway a message repeatedly coming on and off saying “service power steering “ and another message saying power steering assist off service system. I was able to get the vehicle home, however the steering was extremely difficult especially in turns which is a major safety concern increasing a risk of an accident. I have done a lot of research about this issue and have found that there are numerous others with the same issue and same make/model as my 2016 Chrysler 300 C. I took the vehicle to another independent mechanic and they told me they couldn’t figure out what is wrong with it. I made another appointment with another mechanic and when I attempted to drive it “manually” as I had to do when it initially started doing this, the electric power steering has now completely locked up and the wheel is not functional at all and power steering has completely failed. This is not only a huge inconvenience but a serious safety hazard and should be investigated by the manufacturer.
Main Fuel Pump and accompanied electrical connect. The fuel pump and electrical wiring harness is available upon request. My safety was at risk due to a faulty electrical connection inside the fuel tank. My vehicle made a loud hmming sound at a stop sign, upon continuing forward the vehicle shut off randomly. Upon inspection, the fuel was not sending to the engine. We bought a new fuel pump and replaced at the side of the road. When inspecting the OEM fuel pump and accompanied electrical connection, we noticed over heated wiring and melts plastic inside the fuel tank on the underside of the fuel pump, as well as burnt connections on the outside of the fuel tank on the tip side of the fuel pump. We have pictures to support. No warning signs, signals, or lights were present at the time of failure. When purchasing new fuel pump, there were no instructions for replacement of electrical connections. The only indication we found as to what was happening was through public forums online, showing the electrical wiring was faulty and needed replacing with the alternative wiring harness due to wiring (hot wire, b+) being located too close to the grounding wiring causing it to burn amd/or arch creating a problem with which could cause fire and explosion. No information was readily available nor have we received any information on potential catastrophic injury or failure.
oil filter housing, oil pulled to back of engine creating hole, all oil leaked out.
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler 300. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, he heard an abnormal clicking sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed failures with the connecting rod bearings and hydraulic roller lifters. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000. The VIN was not available.
Door panels are separating from all interior doors. Separating has caused issues with doors locking and airbag deployment. This is an issue the manufacturer has been aware of for years yet still manufactures cars with this issue. Chrysler and Dodge vehicles. Issue is so common that replacement parts, which are not covered by manufacturer's warranty and can cost anywhere from $1000+ per door, are backordered.
The bolts were loose on the driveshaft on the all-wheel-drive, which caused them to have to replace the entire driveshaft! If the driveshaft would’ve broke, whoever was driving the vehicle, whether it be me, or with my son in it, we would’ve wrecked and possibly died! The problem has been confirmed with a certified dealer! There is no warning signals. There was nothing and there is a recall on the same. There is a recall for the exact same problem as my car, and now they will not cover it because it doesn’t show up on the Vin! This is a very dangerous safety issue and Chrys learning to address this as soon as possible! Especially after one of their managers told me it would be paid for if I had a diagnosed with a certified dealer and now they’re saying they’re not paying for it
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler 300. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power train warning light illuminated. The contact stated that when she arrived at her destination and proceeded to park the vehicle, the gear shifter was inoperable. The contact stated that she waited for several minutes, and the gear shifter became operable, and she was able to safely park the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred previously, and the gear shifter was replaced but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
PASSENGER DOOR PANEL WARPING. LARGE GAP BETWEEN PANEL AND WINDOW. THIS WILL EVENTUALLY AFFECT THE WINDOW FUNCTIONING, AS WELL AS THE AIR BAG. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND CAN BE LIFE THREATENING.
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that water was leaking from the rear passenger’s side of the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that the window trim on the rear driver's side door had detached. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact's daughter owns a 2016 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that the back-over prevention camera displayed a distorted image while in use. The contact stated that an unknown dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.
Unknown, plastic around window frame is popping off. I believe it to be due to heat however was advised it may cause side air bag deployment issues. After googling I found this to be a known issue
I was sitting at a stop light waiting to make a left turn when the electrical power steering randomly failed. This issue made it near impossible to turn the car and caused me to almost crash into a light pole when I tried to make the left turn. I then made an attempt to turn into a parking lot to get off the road almost causing me to wreck the car a second time. I have been told by multiple mechanics that this electrical power steering failure is not a common issue with newer vehicles. I want to submit this claim to make it known this make and model has this issue
Door panel warped, causing issue with side air bag deployment. Chrysler has known of this issue and refuses to issue recall
Passenger front heated seat for no apparent reason began smoldering and two small burn holes came through the seat cushion. Vehicle was parked at the time and the ignition was off, and the car was unoccupied. this incident was reported to Chrysler and the car was taken to a dealer for inspection. The inspector's report indicated that this was not caused by a manufactures defect and told me to contact my insurance company. I do not agree with these findings and think that this matter should be investigated further as a dangerous fire might occur.
The door molding on the passenger side is now over 1 inch pulled away from the window because of heat. The door molding may cause issues when/if the airbags are deployed. Now two other doors are having the same issue but not as large of a gap between the window and molding.
Started to smell gas inside the car .StepOneAutomotive Crysler diagnosed the problem as a fuel module.Turns out ,another shop found the gas leak under the rear seat, top left fuel pump and seal.Still smells like gas.Feel unsafe for me and my family.
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, an abnormal sound was coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that the driveshaft had loosened. The driveshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to pay the deductible and diagnostic fee. The failure mileage was 49,642.
My door panels are peeling away from the area where the trim and window meet on my driver side and passenger. Upon research, I've discovered this is an issue going back ever since 2014 with Chrysler and Dodge vehicles Upon further research, this issue can lead to issues with side air bags not being able to possibly be deployed (I have not experienced this),driver & passenger window being affected by heating and cooling of the AC (I've experienced this with my windows not being able to adequately defrost fast enough, as well as my windshield), and issues with the doors automatic locks not locking. Hundreds of thousands of Chrysler & Dodge owners have experienced this and evidence can be found online, especially in forums - in particular Mopar Forums and Reddit. My vehicle hasn't been inspected by Police, Insurance, Manufacturer in particular to this issue, as I've discovered there's nothing can be done since I'm out of warranty and refuse to pay for this. No warning lamps of that nature have illuminated. This has been an issue since late 2018, early 2019 for me. I've owned my vehicle since May 2018.
ABS system failed. Front axel disconnected and now needs replaced along with both CV boots. It is now effecting the Carrier Barring (Drive shaft)
Both front door panels severely warped to the point of Cracking and causing the door locks to bind and to also cause the possibility that side air bags may not deploy as designed or deploy prematurely. Warranty and Extended Warranty refused repair claims citing manufacturer defects. Repair estimate over $2000.
Took my car to the dealer to have the fuel pump replaced. Car was repaired and picked up only to have it returned for a fuel leak complaint. Dealership said there was no leak nor evidence of a leak, however, the car is leaking fuel. After my experience I searched for any information on this topic and found others that have had a similar issue with the repair/complaint. This has not been resolved after a call to the dealership owner.
Door panels Peeling away at the seams . Doors won't lock properly and Reports of it affecting side airbags. This is happening on all 4 doors of my vehicle.
WHEN ENGAGING THE TURN SIGNAL (PARTICULARLY LEFT TURNS) THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ENGAGE. HAVE ATTEMPTED "WIGGLING" THIS COMBINATION CONTROL LEVER, WHICH HAS A SMALL DEGREE OF PLAY WITHIN ITS RANGES OF MOTION. SOMETIMES THIS IS EFFECTIVE, BUT USUALLY THIS IS NOT. HAVE ALSO ATTEMPTED POSITIONING THE "PLAY" LEVEL TO EACH OF ITS NATURAL LIMITS. OCCASIONALLY THIS WORKS, BUT WITHIN A FEW TURN CYCLES IT REVERTS BACK TO ENGAGING THE WIPERS. VEHICLE IS IN MOTION WHEN THIS HAPPENS, MAKING A TURN. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR OVER A YEAR.
We purchased the vehicle and after we purchased the vehicle we noticed that the odometer was 85,453 on the contract on 04/20/2021 and we had gotten the Carfax report on 05/10/2021 and in 2016 the odometers reading was 86,960 so we decided to have the further looked at for warranties at Viva Dodge Chrysler and the odometer was 88,521 miles
MY 4 YEAR OLD CHRYSLER STARTED GIVING OFF A VERY STRONG SMELL OF FRESH GASOLINE EACH TIME I FILLED UP THE TANK. THE FUMES WERE SO STRONG I HAD THE CAR ON A LIFT LOOKING FOR LEAKS IN THE REAR OF THE CAR. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE LEAKING OF GASOLINE. THE SMELL WAS ALSO SUPER STRONG OUT SIDE OF THE REAR AND SIDES OF THE CAR TO THE POINT OF FEAR OF SOMEONE WALKING BY AND DROPPING A CIGAR AND BLOWING UP FROM THE FUMES. THE SMELL WAS THERE WHILE SITTING AND MOVING. THE DEALER ADVISED ME NOT TO ADD MORE THAN 1/8 OF A TANK OF GAS FROM EMPTY OR THE FUEL WOULD ESCAPE FROM THE CRACK OR HOLE AND CAUSE THE CANCEROUS SMELL. THE TECH AT THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THE FUEL WAS LEAKING AT THE FILLER CONNECTOR.
THE INSIDE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR PANEL IS LIFTING UP AWAY FROM THE WINDOW. THIS CAR IS GARAGE KEPT AND I HAVE BEEN WORKING FROM HOME SINCE MARCH 23, 2020 SO IT HAS NOT BEEN LEFT OUT IN THE SUN. THE INTERIOR VINYL IS PULLING AWAY AND SEPARATING FROM THE BODY. THIS HAPPENED WHEN STATIONARY AND IS GETTING INCREASINGLY WORSE.
NO INCIDENT INFO OF RECALLS POWER TRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: SOFTWARE POWER TRAIN: AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT. *TR
THE FRONT, PASSENGER DOOR OF MY VEHICLE IS BECOMING WARPED AND HAS DETACHED FROM THE DOOR NEAR WHERE THE PANEL MEETS THE WINDOW. I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND HAVE DISCOVERED IT IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER/DODGE VEHICLES. MY ORIGINAL DEALER WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I FILED A RECALL COMPLAINT THROUGH THE CHRYSLER WEBSITE AND AM WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. PLEASE HELP IN ANY WAY YOU CAN. THANK YOU.
INTERIOR DOOR PANELS ARE WARPED AND LIFTED. I COMPLAINED TO CHRYSLER ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS, AND MY COMPLAINT WAS DENIED TWICE. THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT CAUSES TEMPERATURE INSIDE MY VEHICLE TO BE COMPROMISED DUE TO THE LACK OF INSULATION.
FUEL CANISTER RECALL # UB4.
ECM LIGHT COME ON WHEN I'M ON THE HIGHWAY AND I GET LOSS OF POWER AND CAR SLOWS DOWN AND I SEEN ON CREDIT KARMA SHOWN THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE PCM MODULE I WANTED TO KNOW IF I QUALIFY FOR A FREE RECALL REPAIR. *TR
I WAS RIDING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY WINDSHIELD WASHER CAME ON AND I COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING ! IT JUST COMES ON ANYTIME BY ITSELF ! I HAD TO PULL OVER ONTO A SIDE STREET UNTIL THE FLUID RAN OUT !!
THE LIGHT ON THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE LEAKS WHEN IT RAINS. IT LEAKS MOST WHEN THE CAR IS SITTING STILL.
SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT COLLISION AND SEAT BELTS NOT WORKING.... I WAS DRIVING VEHICLE ON THE ON RAMP TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 45 MPH AND I HAD TO SUDDENLY HIT THE BRAKES HARD DUE TO WET ROAD AND SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED OUT OF NO WHERE.*DT CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN AND PARKED IN THE GARAGE. *JB*DT*JB
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler 300. The contact stated while the vehicle parked, she noticed that the interior door was separating from the door frame showing the padding on the front and rear driver’s and passenger’s side doors. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer to have the vehicle inspected. The contact was informed that the sun or the heat had warped the parts connected to the door panels. The dealer recommended that the door panels be replaced. The contact was concerned that replacing the panels with the same type of panels would result in the same kind of failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
TRANSMISSION IS CHAGES RUFF AND POP. ONCE YOU START TO TAKE OF THE 1 GEAR AND 2 GEAR IS HARD SHIFTING TAKE TIME TO ENGAGED . AND WHEN YOU SLOW DOWN IT RUFF AND A REAL HARD CHANGE
I WAS DRIVING BEHIND A TRUCK #155. USDOT1605061. WHEN A ROCK CRACKED MY WINDSHIELD. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE ON HIGHWAY ON MY WAY TO WORK. TOWARD DAPHNE AND SPANISH FORT. IT WAS RIGHT AFTER LEAVING THE TUNNEL. IT WAS DRIVING IN FRONT OF ME WHEN IT HAPPENED. I WAS GOOD DISTANCE AWAY. POLICE REPORT #M2190903231
AFTER A RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON 6/11/19 (U08) CAR STARTED SKIPPING SPORADICALLY UPON ACCELERATION. THIS LEAD TO IT STALLING ALTOGETHER SPORADICALLY UPON ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THE DEALER (AUTONATION CHRYSLER JEEP PEMBROKE PINES) HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AFTER 3 WEEKS AND, BECAUSE IT DOES NOT SHOW UP IN THE COMPUTER, THE DEALER SAYS IT'S LIKE IT HASN'T HAPPENED. THEY HAVE NO IDEA OF HOW TO REPAIR MY CAR. IT IS STILL AT THE DEALER. I HAVE SHOWN THEM A PHOTO OF THE ERROR MESSAGE ON MY DASHBOARD: SHIFT TO P THEN DESIRED GEAR, AND A VIDEO OF THE GEARSHIFT BLINKING IN DRIVE POSITION. THE ONLY WAY THE CAR WILL MOVE WHEN THIS HAPPENS IS AFTER I PLACE THE CAR IN PARK AND THEN BACK IN DRIVE. THIS IS VERY HAZARDOUS AS I AM IN TRAFFIC WHEN THIS HAPPENS AT A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT (ESPECIALLY IN LEFT TURN LANE). I DO NOT DRIVE ON THE EXPRESSWAY BECAUSE OF A FEAR OF HAVING TO STOP ALL OF A SUDDEN, AND THE CAR STALLING. I HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED IT SKIPPING WHILE ON THE EXPRESSWAY, WHICH WAS SCARY. THE DEALER SAID THEY HAD SENT A STARCASE TO CHRYSLER TO ASSIST IN THE REPAIR, BUT WHEN I CONTACTED CHRYSLER, THEY SAID NO STARCASE HAS BEEN FILED. EVEN IF THE DEALER IS ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, THERE WILL BE NO RECORD OF IT IN THE COMPUTER. I BELIEVE THE COMPUTER PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESS, AS WELL AS THE STALLING HAZARD.
AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY, HAD AN ACCIDENT ON AUG.28TH 2019./DAMAGING RIGHT FRONT BUMPER & RIGHT SIDE QUARTER PANEL.IS THIS NORMAL OR IS IT A DEFECT. BECAUSE I'M SO GLAD I DIDN'T HAVE MY KIDS OR NO ONE ELSE IN THE CAR. BUT MY DR DID INDEED HAD AN WHEEPLATION THAT I HAD DAMAGED MY LEFT SIDE SOLSTICE NERVE.
I WAS IN A FRONT END COLLISION WITH A TREE. EVERYONE KEPT ASKING ME ABOUT AIR BAGS DEPLOYING. THEY DID NOT NONE. I THOUGHT NOTHING MUCH OF IT UNTIL I REALIZED WHY PEOPLE WERE ASKING. I QUESTIONED THE ADJUSTED , HE STATED THEY SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED THEY SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED FROM THE IMPACT POSITION. WELL NONE DID. AND SOMETHING ABOUT THE SEAT BELT LOCKING OR DIDNT LOCK. . MY FIRST REAL ACCIDENT I DONT KNOW MY H. HOWEVER I DID FIND OUT THERE IS A ISSUE. NOW I'M ON THE QUESTIONING SIDE OF WHY DIDNT THEY DEPLOY.
AFTER THE RECALL OF JULY 2019 TO ADDRESS ISSUE WITH ROTARY SHIFTER, I STARTED HAVING ISSUE WITH REVERSE NOT ENGAGING, TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BY TURNING CAR OFF, ETC TO GET IT TO GO INTO REVERSE. HAS BEEN TO DEALER 4 TIMES, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR CODES, SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. I CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THEY CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WERE TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. CHRYSLER ASK THAT I TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND LEAVE IT UNTIL IT LOCKED UP ON THEM. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, SOMETIMES SEVERAL DAYS, THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE A LOANER AND WE CANNOT AFFORD A RENTAL FOR WHAT COULD BE DAYS TO WEEKS, SO CHRYSLER CLOSED THE CASE BECAUSE WE WOULD NOT COOPERATE. *TR
STEERING HAS FELT "STICKY" FOR ABOUT A WEEK. IT IS DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL, AND IT WOULD GET STUCK IN CERTAIN POSITIONS SO I PHYSICALLY COULDN'T TURN OR CHANGE DIRECTIONS. THE PROBLEM WASN'T TOO BAD AT FIRST, BUT THEN GOT EXTREMELY BAD AS OF 08/07/2019. STEERING WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE, AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD GET STUCK N ALMOST EVERY TURN, MAKING DRIVING ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE, AND VERY DANGEROUS. AS OF 08/09/2019, THE STEERING WHEEL IS ALMOST CONSTANTLY STUCK, AND REQUIRES EXTREME FORCE, OR SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES TO TURN OR CHANGE DIRECTIONS AT ALL. EVEN SLIGHT TURNS ARE DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS. THE CAR IS NOW COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AND HAS SWERVED OFF THE ROAD SEVERAL TIMES, AND EVEN SCRAPED A DIVIDER BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED INTO PLACE AND COULDN'T BE CORRECTED. THESE WERE ALL WHILE DRIVING, DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, STEERING WAS SLIGHTLY EASIER. BUT THAT IS WHERE THE CRASH WITH THE DIVIDER HAPPENED. DRIVING ON CITY STREETS WAS MORE DIFFICULT BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE TURNS AND THEY ARE SHARPER. THIS IS NOW COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE. WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY, OR IN PARK, THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED IN PLACE AND CAN'T BE TURNED.
