Random stalling upon deceleration with no warning lights after stalling (as if the engine thinks it is still running). Occurs at low speed. Sometimes the engine will surge when the rpm drops off instead of stalling. I have almost run into other cars when the surging happens. The stalling occurs randomly and is becoming more frequent. A scan of the internet shows many others with same issue. No CEL.
The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power with smoke coming from underneath the hood. Smoke then entered the cabin of the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the odometer was inoperable. The contact restarted the vehicle; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that her daughter had asthma; however, the contact and her two children did not receive medical attention. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to tow the vehicle to their location. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was unavailable.
HAD FUEL PUMP REPLACED A COUPLE MONTHS AGO. THEN AT GAS STATION WOULDNT START AT ALL, HAD A TOW TRUCK TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC AND THAT MECHANIC TAPPED ON GAS TANK AND IT STARTED AND SAID FUEL PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACE SO I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE THE NEW FUEL PUMP HAD A WARRANTY. THEY SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH FUEL PUMP BUT FOUND PROBLEM WIRH #2 SELINOID AND THEY REPLACED IT. TWO WEEKS LATER THS CAR WAS DRIVING FINE BUT WHEN I GOT HOME AND TURNED OFF THE CAR FOR A COUPLE HOURS IT STARTED RIGHT UP. SO I TURNED IT OFF AND ON A COUPLE TIMES THEN THE ENGINE SURGED THEN HESTITATED THEN DIED. IT DID IT TWICE AFTER STARTING IT THEN TURNING ITVON ABOUT 5 TIMES TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT COULD BE WRONG WITH IT. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN FEBRUARY 2017. I HAD BOTH STRUT MOUNTS FIXED, FUEL PUMP, AN AIR VALVE FROM COOLANT DO NOT REMEMBER EXACT NAME, #2 SELINOID NOW THIS PROBLEM. I STILL OWE ON THIS CAR AND ITS NOT RELIABLE AND SCARED TO DRIVE IT AND WRECK.
WHEN IN MOTION LEAKS COOLANT ON PUBLIC ROADS...ONCE AGAIN. HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE WHEN THIS SAID VEHICLE HAD 70,000 MILES ON IT AT THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. REPLACED WATER PUMP.
THE HEADGASKET HAS FAILED FOR THE THIRD TIME IN FOUR YEARS.

I SMELLED A BURNING SMELL THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE FOUND A LOT OF STRESS CRACKS IN THE OIL PAN WHICH IS ALUMINUM TOLD ME I WAS LUCKY THE ENGINE DIDN'T SEIZE OR CATCH ON FIRE THE EXHAUST PIE IS UNDER ONE OF THE CRACKS AND AS THE CAR GOT HOT THAT CRACK EXPANDED. THERE ARE SEVERAL MORE IN THE PAN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

ENGINE SEIZED UP WHILE DRIVING IT. I WAS ON THE PARKWAY AND THIS PUT ME IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. NO LIGHTS OR WARNING AT ALL....CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES. SLUDGE BUILD UP IN ENGINE AND I WAS ADVISED THIS WAS A DEFECT ON THESE ENGINES. I WAS ADVISED BY THE MECHANIC THAT CHANGING THE OIL REGULARLY WOULD NOT OF PREVENTED THE BUILD UP, THIS IS A DEFECT AND IS HAPPENING TO THESE ENGINES. *TR

2004 2.7L CHRYSLER SEBRING GTC CONVERTIBLE V-6 ENGINE SUFFERED COMPLETE FAILURE AT 107,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING ENGINE STARTED TO BUCK, SURGE, AND MAKE A SERIOUS KNOCKING SOUND, WHITE SMOKE POURED OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CAR STALLED IN IT'S TRACKS, UNABLE TO RUN AGAIN. I BOUGHT MY USED TOURING MODEL SEBRING IN MAY OF 2011, AND SINCE THEN IT HAS REPEATEDLY JUMPED OR LEAPED FORWARD WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR IDLING, EVEN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I HAVE ALMOST CAUSED A FEW ACCIDENTS BY RAMMING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AT A STOP LIGHT AND SUCH. AS WELL, IT STALLED OUT ON ME WHEN I MADE A COMPLETE STOP ON 10/11/11. I HAVE SEEN MANY, MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS AND WISH I KNEW WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. WILL BE TAKING IT INTO THE REPAIR SHOP TOMORROW. *KB

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE ENGINE AND NOTICED THAT THE RADIATOR OVERFLOW TANK WAS PUNCTURED AND SPILLING COOLANT OVER THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHERE THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE RADIATOR OVERFLOW TANK AND GASKET FOR THE UPPER INTAKE VALVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,737.
PURCHASED 2004 SEBRING CONVERTIBLE MEMORIAL WEEKEND 2011. DURING DELIVERY FROM UTAH AUTO GALLERY OIL LIGHT FLICKERED. DEALER CHEATED OIL AND SAID WAS ION. OIL CHANGE IN JULY WITH SYNTHETIC OIL. VEHICLE ENGINE SEIZED WHILE ON MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY I80, OUT SIDE OF SALT LAKE CITY. DISCOVERED VIA INTERNET THAT 2.7 ENGINES DEFECTIVE. DEALER NOT RETURNING CALL. RESEARCH SAYS THE SIGN THAT THE ENGINE IS STARTING TO SEIZE IS THE FLICKER OF THE OIL LIGHT. VEHICLE SOLD WITH THE POTENTIAL OF A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE, WHICH HAPPENED A MONTH AND A HALF AFTER VEHICLE SOLD. CAR HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 922 MILES SINCE PURCHASED. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ACCELERATING FROM A STOP WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WITHOUT WARNING THE CONTACT THEN COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET AND TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE OIL PUMP, THE CAM SHAFT, AND ADDITIONAL VALVES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 131,000.

*WHAT HAPPENED? USE AS MUCH SPACE AS YOU NEED. WE OWN THIS 2004 CHRYSLER SEBRING AS WE PURCHASED IT NEW IN THE FALL OF 2004 FROM WESTBORN CHRYSLER IN DEARBORN. IN THE SPRING OF 2005 WE TOOK A TRIP TO FLORIDA, AND AS WE WERE GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY, AT THE FIRST STOP LIGHT, THE CAR WAS JERKING TO THE POINT THAT IF WE DID NOT PUT IT IN PARK IT WOULD HIT THE GAR IN FRONT, THEN IT STOPPED. IT STOPPED SEVERAL TIMES IN THAT TRIP. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER; THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. WE DROVE THE CAR SHORT DISTANCES SINCE, BUT RECENTLY STARTED TO DRIVE ABOUT 20 MILES ONE WAY, WHEN IT STARTED TO HAVE THE SAME SYMPTOMS. WE EXPERIENCE SEVERAL CASES OF SUDDEN STALLING, JERKING AND SUDDEN STOPS WHEN TURNING. IT HAPPENS WHEN HAVE TO STOP AFTER A HIGHWAY DRIVE. IN ONE INSTANCE IT ALMOST HIT OUR HOUSE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND WERE TOLD THAT THE RIGHT DOWNSTREAM O2 SENSOR, AND THE HARNESS CONNECTOR HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE FUEL INJECTOR NEEDS TO BE SERVICED. ALSO THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS NOISY. CHRYSLER WOULD PAY FOR THE PARTS, BUT WE WOULD HAVE TO PICK UP THE LABOR COST OF $1,103, BECAUSE THE CAR HAS 47,000 MILES, IT IS SO FAR SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THEY CLAIM THIS IS NOT COVERED BY THE 70,000 MILES OR 7 YEARS WARRANTY. IT IS THE ENGINE AND/OR TRANSMISSION THAT ARE MALFUNCTIONING, BUT THEY TRY TO FIND DIFFERENT THINGS TO GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND AND NOT TO COVER THE EXPENSES. AFTER ALL, T REALLY THING THAT THIS WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, THIS IS ONLY THE EFFECT OF A DIFFERENT CAUSE, THAT IS NOT EVEN FOUND. 2. ANOTHER ISSUE IS THAT ONCE IT RAINS, THE CARPET ON THE DRIVER SIDE IS ALWAYS WET. 3. A THIRD ISSUE, WE HAD TO REPLACE THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR. ALL COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THESE CARS, AS I READ COMPLAINTS. WHY ISN'T CHRYSLER STEPPING UP AND FIXING THESE PROBLEMS? *TR
THE ENGINE ON MY 2004 SEBRING CONVERTIBLE GTS BLEW WHILE DRIVING DOWN I 95 TOWARD MIAMI GOING 75 MPH. I LOST ALL CONTROL AND POWER TO VEHICLE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF EXIT 129 IN FT PIERCE TO A GAS STATION. ONLY TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO FIRESTONE WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY ENGINE HAD BLOWN AND THAT IT WAS A VERY KNOWN AND COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS ENGINE. *TR
