WHILE DRIVING THE RADIO WILL SHUT OFF AND THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIGHT UP JUST FOR A FEW SECONDS. I AM USING THE ONE KEY ONLY WITH NOTHING ELSE ON THE RING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE IGNITION BUT HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OR BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VAN WHEN THIS HAPPENS FOR FEAR IT WILL SHUT DOWN AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AT ALL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE CONNECTOR AND A CLUSTER OF WIRES WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
WHEN BRAKING RATHER HARD TO SLOW/STOP QUICKLY, TRANSMISSION HESITATES TO DOWNSHIFT SO WHEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE AGAIN, ENGINE REVS UP BUT TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE. THEN IT WILL ENGAGE SUDDENLY WITH A HARD JERK WHICH CAN BE DANGEROUS. ALSO, WHEN BRAKING HARD TO SLOW QUICKLY AND BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT DISENGAGE AS IT SHOULD, THE ENGINE SOMETIME KILLS WHEN I HAVE SLOWED. IN AN INSTANCE WHEN THAT HAPPENED, I WAS MAKING A TURN AND, OF COURSE, LOST POWER STEERING SO BARELY AVOIDED HITTING A VEHICLE WAITING ON THE STREET INTO WHICH I WAS TURNING SINCE STEERING WAS VERY HEAVY TO ACCOMPLISH. BROUGHT THIS UP TO A TECHNICIAN WHO SAID, "YES THOSE VEHICLES ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR TRANSMISSIONS FAILURE TO DISENGAGE AND OCCASIONAL SLIPPAGE ON STARTING AND THEN SUDDENLY ENGAGING WITH A VERY HARD JERK". *TR UPDATED 5/10/2015 *JS
AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK MY CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY STALLED ON THE ROAD. ALL THE ELECTRONIC FUNCTIONS OF MY MINI VAN I.E. THE BRAKES AND THE STEERING WHEEL WERE DISABLED AND I HAD TO PULL IT ON THE SIDE. IT WAS THANKSGIVING DAY SO THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD. I IMMEDIATELY PUT ON HAZARD LIGHTS TO AVOID ANY COLLISION FROM THE CAR THAT WAS DRIVING BEHIND ME. THE NEXT DAY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY DID SEVERAL THINGS THAT COSTS TOTAL OF $1335 BUT NEXT TIME I FILLED UP THE TANK IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WENT ONLINE TO GOOGLE THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI VAN. IT DOES POSES A DANGEROUS SITUATION TO SOME EXTENT. THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A RECALL FROM CHRYSLER BUT THEY TOTALLY IGNORED THIS. THE FIX TO THIS PROBLEM IS REPLACING THE FUEL TANK...A BIG EXPENSE. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY FUEL TANK, 1 MINUTE LATER, WHEN I PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE VAN STALLS. I HAVE TO START IT AGAIN, TAKES A WHILE BUT IT STARTS. THE VAN RUNS FINE AFTERWARDS. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME I FILL IT UP WITH FUEL.
AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK WITH GAS, I DRIVE AWAY FROM THE GAS STATION AND THE VAN STALLS. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON A 2 LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY IN WHICH I WAS ALMOST KILLED! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS SITUATION. *TR
VAN BEGAN RUNNING RAGGED AFTER FILLING UP AT GAS STATION. IT THEN STALLED ON A 4-LANE HIGHWAY. WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED. LOOKED UP SYMPTOMS ON-LINE AND SAW NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF SAME VAN AND THAT ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE GAS TANK, FUEL ENTERING VAPOR CANISTER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING G SOUTH ON INTERSTATE 35 AS I WAS ENTERING THE INTERSECTION WHERE INTERSTATE 35 , 80 , 235 MEET A SEMI HAULING WHAT LOOKED LIKE GRAVEL WAS MERGING ONTO 235 AT THE SAME TIME I WAS . ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL MY VEHICLE LIGHTING WENT DARK AND THE TRUCK DRIVER SAW ME.. I WAS FRANTICALLY TRYING TO GET THEM ON AND I DID NOT SEE HIM AND JUST WHEN HE MERGED HE SAW ME AND SLAMMED ON HIS BRAKES . RESULTING IN MY VEHICLE BEING PELTED WITH SAND AND ROCK . MY WIND SHIELD HAD NUMEROUS DINGS IN IT AND SINCE IT WAS TOTALLY DARK I DIDN'T NOTICE THEM TILL IT WAS TO LATE TO STOP HIM . MY LIGHTS GO OFF AND ON AND UNTIL IT'S FIXED I CAN'T DRIVE AFTER DARK. I WENT TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER ONLY TO FIND OUT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY AND SINCE I AM A DISABLED VETERAN I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY AT THIS TIME TO GET THE LIGHTS FIXED AND NOW THE WINDSHIELD IS CRACKED. *TR
I WAS ON THE WAY TO A VET APPOINTMENT WITH OUR PUPPY AND HAD MY 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE VAN, WE HAD TRAVELED DOWN THE ROAD WE LIVE ON AND THEN TURNED ONTO THE MAIL ROAD AND AFTER APPROX. .5 MILE THE VAN STARTED TO HESITATE IN TRAFFIC AND STARTED TO STALL, I TRIED TO TURN THE WHEEL HARD TO GET IT OUT OF THE ROAD BUT IT WAS TO LATE AND IT STALLED IN THE ROAD, WITH IN SECONDS I SAW DARK SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE HOOD AND STARTED TO SMELL IT IN THE VAN, I QUICKLY TOLD MY DAUGHTER TO GET OUT OF THE VAN AND TAKE THE PUPPY, MY DAUGHTER YELLED WHATS WRONG DADDY, I SAID GET OUT NOW AND STAND ON THE SHOULDER BY THIS TIME FLAMES HAD STARTED TO SHOOT OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD, I JOINED MY DAUGHTER AND PUPPY ON THE SHOULDER AND CALLED 911 BY THE TIME THEY ARRIVED THE WHOLE FRONT END AND DASH WAS IN FLAMES AND THEY STARTED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. *TR
I LEFT MY HOUSE & A MILE AT THE MOST DOWN THE ROAD. I HEARD A NOISE & FELT THE REAR END SLIDE TO THE RIGHT. I TRIED TURNING THE WHEEL TO STRAIGHTEN THE VAN NOTHING HAPPENED. THE STEERING WHEEL WENT SIDE TO SIDE, BUT THE WHEELS DIDN'T TURN. I WONDERED WHY THE VAN HAD SLIDE TO THE SIDE. THAT IS WHEN I REALIZED THERE WAS NO STEERING B/C THE DIRECTION DIDN'T CHANGE & IT WAS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS JUST THERE. I WAS COHERENT THE ENTIRE TIME, I NOTICED AT THAT TIME I WAS HEADED FOR THE EMBANKMENT ACROSS THE OTHER LANE OF TRAFFIC. (IT IS A TWO LANE ROAD.) I ALREADY KNEW THERE WAS NO STEERING, SO I GRABBED THE WHEEL WITH BOTH HANDS, PLANTED MY FEET TO THE FLOOR BOARD! I THEN ASKED GOD TO FORGIVE ME. THE VAN HIT THE EMBANKMENT HEAD ON ,FLIPPED, VANS TOP SCRAPPED ALL THE WAY DOWN JUST ON THE EDGES WHERE THE FRAME IS. THEN IT LANDED ON THE PASS. SIDE & SLID BACKWARDS INTO THE EMBANKMENT ( ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I WAS ORIGINALLY GOING DOWN.) ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TRIED TO GET OUT B/C I THOUGHT I SAW SMOKE. IT WAS THE AIRBAGS, THEY HAD EXPLODED.MY SHINS LOOKED LIKE I GOT BEAT WITH A BASEBALL BAT, THE SEAT BELT GOT STUCK, &THE DOORS LOCKED. I LIFTED THE DRIVER DOOR UP OVER MY HEAD. (VAN WAS ON PASS. SIDE).A MAN HELPED ME GET OUT & VAN WAS PULLED ONTO ALL 4 TIRES. I HAD BACK SURGERY ON 4-23-14. I WENT & HAD XRAYS TAKEN. I FILLED AN INVESTIGATION W/CHRYSLER [XXX]#[XXX] ,[XXX]TOOK PICS. OF VAN, ASKS QTS & SENT TO CHRYSLER.[XXX] W/CUST. CLAIM RESOLUTION GRP 248-512-2934 SENT LETTER B/C VAN @ SALVAGE 803-324-7510,980-8900 & TAMPERED W/ NO INVEST. COULD BE DONE. THEY HAVE TO GO TO THE SCENE OF WRECK (STANDARD PROCEDURE) & DIDN'T.I CONTACTED [XXX] & NUMEROUS OTHERS @CHRYSLER 800-247-9753 REASON?.1.)4 BLOWN TIRES REMOVED 2.)FUSES WERE GONE. IT WAS TOTALED! AFTER FILLING GAS TANK, VEHICLE STALLED AS I WAS TURNING BACK INTO TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE HAS THREATENED TO STALL SEVERAL TIMES AFTER FILL-UPS OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE AS DESCRIBED IN INVESTIGATION PS13-016 FOR SIMILAR MODELS FROM CHRYSLER. THAT INVESTIGATION HAS LED TO A VERY NARROWLY DRAWN WARRANTY EXTENSION. ON-LINE RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V373000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO INFORM THE CONTACT OF WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING SHORTLY AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IMMEDIATELY. IT HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL MORE TIMES. ALWAYS RIGHT AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK. NO TROUBLE CODES HAVE EVER BEEN REGISTERED.
WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONTINUOUSLY. DOING SOME INVESTIGATION ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE I NOTED THE RECALL THAT AFFECTED THIS MODEL, YEAR AND STATE OF REGISTRATION. THE FAILURE IS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN THE BULLETIN. FOR SOME REASON CHRYSLER DOES NOT HAVE THE VEHICHLE VIN LISTED AS BEING AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. WILL PURSUE CORRECTIVE ACTION AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COIL THAT HEATS THE DRIVER SEAT BURNED A HOLE THROUGH THE SEAT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BURN ON THE LEG THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000.

THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V008000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 222,000.
FRONT END IMPACT. STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY.
LUCKILY I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I'M A MECHANIC AND AN ENGINEER. I IMMEDIATELY SEARCHED FOR A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON THE DRIVEWAY. FINDING IT BETWEEN THE REAR WHEELS ON THE GROUND I RAISED THE REAR END UP TO ACCESS THE SUSPECT AREA. SHOCKED, I SAW A HYDRAULIC BRAKE MANIFOLD WITH 4 BRAKE LINES COMING OUT OF IT AND ONE WAS CLEARLY TOTAL RUST. ALL OTHERS WERE IN COMPLETELY NEW CONDITION. CLEARLY THE RUSTED ONE LEADING TO THE LEFT REAR BRAKE CYLINDER WAS PROCESSED DIFFERENTLY THAN THE OTHERS. THREE PERFECT CONDITION, ONE COMPLETELY RUSTED????? SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE RECALLED, NOW!!!! I CHANGED THE BRAKE LINE AND ALL IS WELL. IF A RECALL IS ISSUED I WANT MY MONEY AND TIME REIMBURSED, PLEASE. *TR
MY CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY CONSTANTLY HAS ISSUES WITH FLICKERING LIGHTS, WHACKED OUT SPEEDOMETER, ALL LIGHTS IN DASH GO HAYWIRE INCLUDING HEADLIGHTS. SOMETIMES THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN TEMPORARILY WHILE DRIVING OR EVEN FAILS AT STOPLIGHTS. WELL A WHILE AGO I HAD TAKEN MY SON TO THE DOCTORS AND ON THE WAY HOME MY VAN STARTED ACTING UP SO BAD THAT THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN INCLUDING POWER STEERING AND CAUSED ME TO GO INTO THE NEXT LANE AND LUCKILY WE WEREN'T HIT BY ANOTHER DRIVER! AFTER SITTING THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE DURING RUSH HOUR FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES IT FINALLY DECIDED TO START UP BUT THIS IS NOW A CONSTANT ISSUE. AFTER SEEING SO MANY COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUE I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE MANUFACTURER IS GETTING AWAY WITH NO RECALL. I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY EVERY DAY AND HAVE ALREADY FORKED WAY TOO MUCH MONEY INTO IT TRYING TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. I HAD TO TURN THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH OFF AND ON A FEW TIMES TO GET THE LIGHTS BACK. GOOD THING THAT I WAS JUST LEAVING TOWN AND NOT ON THE FREEWAY YET. *TR
MY HEADLIGHTS, ODOMETER & PRND21 BEGAN FLICKERING INTERMITTENTLY. CONDITION WORSENED AND GAUGES WOULD TURN OFF AND BACK ON, WARNING LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER OFF & ON, RADIO CUTS OUT. CONDITION HAS PROGRESSED - NOW VAN HAS STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING THREE TIMES. BATTERY IS GOOD, GROUNDS ARE CONNECTED. THIS COMPLAINT SEEMS TO BE COMMON, YET DEALERSHIPS DO NOT SEEM TO HAVE REPAIR INFORMATION FROM CHRYSLER. STALLING WHILE DRIVING IS DANGEROUS - CHRYSLER SHOULD HELP IDENTIFY A SOLUTION AND ISSUE A SERVICE BULLETIN. *TR

RECENTLY PURCHASED 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY USED. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF FILLING UP WITH GAS, THE VAN STALLS OR NEARLY STALLS. THIS HAS HAPPENED EVERY TIME WE'VE FILLED UP THE VAN WITH GAS. CAR STALLS OR NEARLY STALLS WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE GAS STATION OR VERY SOON AFTER. CAR RESTARTS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM AND IS FINE UNTIL THE NEXT FILL UP. IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE VAPOR/LIQUID SEPARATOR IN THE FUEL TANK. MANY, MANY REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL AND REPLACE THE FUEL TANKS. *TR
I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE ON SEPTEMBER 6, 2014 AND AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. I DO NOT HAVE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE. THE ENGINE STALLS WHILE I AM DRIVING OR IDLING SHORTLY AFTER REFUELING. I DO NOT TOP OFF THE GAS TANK. THIS HAS HAPPENED AFTER EACH REFUEL SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (APPROXIMATELY 12 TIMES IN TOTAL). THE CAR WILL SPUTTER AND THEN STALL WHILE IDLING OR WILL JERK FORWARD VIOLENTLY AS THE ENGINE SPUTTERS WHILE I AM DRIVING AND THEN STALL. THIS MAY HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY IN THE GAS STATION PARKING LOT OR AS FAR AWAY AS 1 MILE DOWN THE ROAD AFTER REFUELING. I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED THIS MORNING WHEN THIS OCCURRED. *TR
THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK ACTUATOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR STOPPED UNLOCKING THAT OR ANY OF THE OTHER LOCKS. SEVERAL DAYS LATER THE ACTUATOR BEGAN TO WORK AGAIN THEN A FEW DAYS LATER AGAIN STOPPED WORKING. THIS HAS REPEATED SEVERAL TIMES NOW. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED BEFORE SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER WE HAD BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED IN MID 2012. AT THAT TIME, A MECHANIC REPLACED THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR ACTUATOR WHICH SEEMED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM UNTIL IT RECURRED THIS AUGUST. AT ALL TIMES, EVEN WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR ACTUATOR DID NOT FUNCTION, THE LOCK/UNLOCK FUNCTION ON THE REMOTE HAS ALWAYS WORKED. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, THE DRIVER CANNOT UNLOCK THE PASSENGERS' DOORS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 (NA) BABY TREND FLEX-LOC REAR FACING INFANT SEAT. THE SEAT WAS MANUFACTURED ON FEBRUARY 1, 2012 AND LOCATED IN A 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LATCH BUTTON THAT SECURES THE CHILD SEAT TO THE BASE WOULD NOT CLOSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CHILD SEAT WAS NOT REPLACED. AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL IT STALLED OUT , AFTER RESTARTING IT STALLED AGAIN. AFTER RESTARTING IT FOR THE SECOND TIME IT RAN ROUGH FOR ABOUT AN 1/8 TO 1/4 MILE THEN BEGAN TO RUN NORMALLY. *TR

I WAS INFORMED TODAY BY THE MECHANIC AT MONROE MUFFLER THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED SO BADLY THAT HE WAS ABLE TO PUT HIS FINGERS THROUGH THE FRAME. THERE ARE ACTUALLY LARGE HOLES THROUGH THE FRAME. THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME THE HOLES ON THE FRAME (REAR RIGHT SIDE). THE LEFT REAR FRAME WAS NEARLY AS BAD. WHEN TOYOTA HAD A FRAME RUST/ROT ISSUE ON THE TACOMA AND THE TUNDRA, TOYOTA EITHER REPLACED THE FRAME OR BOUGHT BACK THE VEHICLE AT 1 1/2 TIMES THE KBB RETAIL VALUE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. I WAS PLANNING ON DRIVING THIS ANOTHER FEW YEARS, HOWEVER IT WON'T PASS NYS INSPECTION WITH THE FRAME RUST THROUGH. WHAT IS CHRYSLER GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS? *TR
CAR STALLED OUT WITHOUT WARNING AT 55 TO 60MPH. NO WARNING LIGHTS,FULL FUEL,NO BLOWN FUSES. COASTED TO EMERGENCY LANE. RESTARTED VEHICLE WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS OR PROBLEMS. HAS DONE THIS SEVERAL TIMES WITH DIFFERENT DRIVERS. *TR
DURING THE DRIVING, HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AT 55 MPH AND I MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TOGGLE THE SWITCH AND HEADLIGHTS CAME ON. AFTER A LONG PERIOD WITH THIS ISSUE, IT GETS WORSE, IT TAKES ME AT LEAST 2-3 MINUTES TOGGLING THE SWTICH TO TURN IT ON. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH THIS ISSUE. HEADLIGHT SWITCH IS RECALLED BY CHRYSLER BUT IT DOESN'T APPLY ON MY VEHICLE.
TURNED THE LIGHTS ON AS IT WAS GETTING DARK WHILE DRIVING AND EVEN ON HIGH BEAMS IT WAS IF HEADLIGHTS WERE BARELY ON. ALSO THE LEFT FRONT BLINKER FAILED ALTHOUGH THE BACK BLINKER DID WORK BUT FLASHED EXTREMELY FAST. REPLACED BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND STILL HAVE TO USE HEADLIGHTS ON BRIGHT TO SEE AS IF THE LIGHTS ARE ON DIM. THE LEFT FRONT BLINKER AND SIDE LIGHT FAILED WITHIN A MONTH OF REPLACEMENT. WHEN REPLACED AGAIN, THERE WAS NO CHANGE. THE BLINKER/SIDE LIGHT FAILED TO OPERATE. *TR
TOOK TOWN&COUNTRY FOR OIL CHANGE. WHILE TECH DOING SAFETY CHECK, RECOMMENDED 2 TWO TIRES. WHILE ON THE LIFT HE NOTICED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS LEAKING POSSIBLY AT THE SEALS. RECOMMENDED REPLACING RACK AND PINION AT A COST OF OVER $700. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND 2005/2006 YEARS. MY 2005 CHRYSLER TOWN/COUNTRY CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AFTER MY HAND/PURSE RAN INTO THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. I COASTED TO A STOP. LUCKILY, SINCE IT WAS ON A SIDE STREET WITH NO ONE BEHIND ME I WAS ABLE TO REMAIN CALM, PUT IT INTO PARK AND STARTED THE VEHICLE BACK UP WITH NO PROBLEM. THERE HAS NOT BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE THEN. I HAVE MADE SURE TO LIGHTEN THE LOAD ON MY KEYCHAIN, ONLY HAVING 2 KEYS AND NOTHING ELSE. I CAN NOT IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD I BEEN ON THE FREEWAY GOING 70 MPH!!! THAT IS WHY I AM SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT. THE KEY SURELY SHOULD HAVE A SAFETY FEATURE BUILT INTO IT THAT WOULD NOT ALLOW IT TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF WHILE IT IS BEING DRIVEN AND IN GEAR (DRIVE). A SIMPLE BUMP SHOULD NOT MAKE THAT KEY MOVE INTO A NON-DRIVABLE POSITION. I THINK A DEFECT LIKE THIS COULD INDEED CAUSE A FATAL CRASH AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. VEHICLE WAS RUNNING WHILE PARKED. SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND AIR VENTS WITH A BURNING ELECTRICAL SMELL. GOT OUT OF CAR TO CHECK UNDER HOOD AND AIRBAG DEPLOYED. WE HAVE TAKEN THIS TO THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP TWICE IN THE LAST 8 MONTHS. REPLACED VAPOR CANISTER AND EVAP PURGE SOLENOID IN APRIL REPLACED FUEL PUMP IN OCTOBER THEY SEEMED COMPLETELY UNAWARE OF THIS KNOWN AND LONG TERM-ISSUE. OUR FEAR IS THAT IF THE VEHICLE STALLS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THAT WE COULD CRASH. *TR
POWER LOCKS ON THE BACK SLIDING DOORS DO NOT WORK. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE TO PULL THE LOCK UP VERY HARD FROM ONE SIDE AS I PULL ON THE HANDLE ON THE OTHER SIDE. AFTER FUELING, THIS VEHICLE STALLS 1 TO 3 TIMES. WE DO NOT "TOP OFF THE TANK", BUT STOP FUELING WHEN PUMP SHUTS OFF. IT DOES NOT MATTER THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE. THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES ARE LOST. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES THAT AN OBJECT, SUCH AS A MAIL BOX, IS ALMOST HIT BECAUSE IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THIS IS NO DOUBT A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE CONTROL OF THE CAR IS LOST. IF YOU PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC THINKING THE VEHICLE IS GOING TO ACCELERATE AND IT DOES NOT, YOU ARE IN DANGER OF BEING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. APPARENTLY THIS IS QUITE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THESE VANS.
