TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS JAMMED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO EXPERIENCE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY FORCING IT INTO THE PARK GEAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS STILL REVVING AND AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR WAS PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER NOR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,125.
FILLED UP OUR VAN WITH GAS. LEFT THE GAS STATION TO CUT ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE LANE WAS CLEAR SO I WENT. AS I ACCELERATED THE VAN SHUDDERED AND CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC!. LOST ALL POWER, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF. LUCKILY WE WERE NOT IN A HEAD ON COLLISION OR WERE T-BONED IN THE SIDE. MY WIFE AND 1 YEAR OLD WERE IN THE CAR AND COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN KILLED. IMMEDIATELY I WENT AND STARTED DOING SOME RESEARCH ON WHAT HAPPENED. COME TO FIND IT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH THESE VANS. THE PROBLEM IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE GAS SYSTEM OF THESE VANS. I FOUND MULTIPLE PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. TO DATE THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED DUE TO THIS DESIGN AND ENGINEERING FLAW. MAYBE SOMEONE ALREADY HAS BEEN, AND DIDNT LIVE TO TELL THE STORY. ALL I KNOW IS IT DOESN'T GET MUCH WORSE THAN LOSING ALL POWER STEERING, ACCELERATION, AND THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY TOURING MINIVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON THAT WAS ON THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE HE WAS UNABLE TO ACCESS THE CRUISE CONTROL FUNCTION. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH ROOM BETWEEN THE SEAT AND THE DOOR PANEL TO ALLOW HIM TO ACCESS THE SEAT RECLINER SWITCH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 124,000.

IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE FAILURE, REPEATED PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000. CONSUMER STATED HE TOOK CAR TO REPAIR SHOP. THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE CARBON ON THE CABLE TO THE ACCELERATOR WHICH CAUSED IT TO STICK. THE SHOP CLEANED THE CABLE, NO MORE STICKING WHEN GAS PEDAL FLOORED. UPDATED 09/01/2011 *LN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRYING TO MOVE FROM A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. HE MENTIONED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STUCK AND IN ORDER TO RELEASE IT, HE HAD TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT IT WAS PROBABLY A DIRTY AIR FILTER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED TO GO BACK TO A THE DEALER TO GET A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.

IT WAS A CLEAR DAY AND THE PAVEMENT WAS DRY. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY HEADING WEST ON DAYTON-YELLOW SPRINGS RD NEAR FAIRBORN OHIO. THE CAR APPEARED TO SPEEDUP ON IT'S OWN, I HIT THE BRAKES AND LET UP TO TRY AND GAIN CONTROL. THE MINI VAN WENT LEFT OF CENTER, SPUN BACK TO THE RIGHT AND FLIP ON IT'S SIDE INTO A DITCH. I HAD BEEN COMPLAINING TO MY HUSBAND THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VAN. HE DROVE IT A COUPLE OF TIMES BECAUSE OF THE HIGH MILEAGE HAD NEW TIRES PUT ON. A COUPLE OF DAYS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, A CO-WORK DROVE THE VAN AND SHE SAID SOMETHING DID NOT FEEL RIGHT WITH IT. SHE HAS DRIVE MY VAN NUMEROUS TIMES IN THE PAST. *TR

THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE, AND ACCORDING TO WITNESSES, AS THE DRIVER DROVE DOWN A BRIDGE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FOR APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING IN AND OUT OF TRAFFIC TO AVOID HITTING OTHER VEHICLES. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE BACK OF AN 18 WHEELER. THE SPEED WAS 90 MPH ,AND ACCORDING TO THE INVESTIGATION THE BRAKES WERE NOT APPLIED. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE WAS KILLED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE.
