WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 70MPH MY VAN COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THIS CREATED AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO ME AND MY FAMILY. IF I HAD NOT HAVE BEEN IN THE LANE CLOSEST TO THE SHOULDER THE END RESULTS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN OUR FAVOR. I BELIEVE THAT IT MAY BE THE EGNITION SWITCH OR SOMETHING ELECTRICAL RELATED.
WHILE DRIVING APPX 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER, LIGHTS, STEERING AND ENGINE SHUT OFF. IT WAS APPX 1030 AT NIGHT WITH NO STREET LIGHTS AROUND AND MY HUSBAND THANKFULLY WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND HIS COMPOSURE IN ORDER TO COAST THE VEHICLE OFF ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE COULD NOT SEE WHERE WE WERE GOING AS IT WAS PITCH DARK OUTSIDE AND HE WAS ABLE TO FEEL THE GRAVEL UNDER THE TIRES AND PRAYED THAT HE WAS SUCCESSFULLY OFF THE ROADWAY ENOUGH TO PREVENT BEING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. WE HAD OUR 6 MONTH OLD BABY GIRL SECURED IN HER CAR SEAT IN THE SECOND ROW CAPTAIN SEAT AND I TRIED TO GET HER SLIDING DOOR OPEN IN ORDER TO GET HER OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND OUT OF HARMS WAY SINCE WE WERE BARELY PULLED OFF THE ROADWAY, BUT THE SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT EVEN OPEN. I HAD TO CRAWL INTO THE BACK OF THE VAN AND REMOVE HER THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR. THE DASH LIGHTS WOULD BLINK INTERMITTENTLY BUT WE WERE NOT EVEN ABLE TO GET THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON. WE MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO TURN THE CAR ON, PRESSING EVERY BUTTON ON THE KEY FAB TO TRY TO GET THE VEHICLE WORKING AGAIN. NO LUCK. THANKFULLY THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE ARRIVED AND THEY PROVIDED PROPER LIGHTS AND FLARES TO ALERT OTHER DRIVERS OF THE DISABLED VEHICLE. ONCE THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED WE DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY WHICH STOPPED THE SPORADIC BLINKING OF THE DASH LIGHTS AND THEN RECONNECTED THE BATTERY APPX 5 SECONDS LATER AND THE VEHICLE STARTED UP NO PROBLEMS. WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE THE VAN HOME WITH THE SHERIFF'S FOLLOWING US FOR SAFETY. OVERALL, THIS EXPERIENCE WITH THE VEHICLE LOOSING ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WAS TERRIFYING. THANKFULLY WE WERE ON A FAIRLY STRAIGHT STRETCH OF HIGHWAY WHERE THE SHOULDER WAS WIDE ENOUGH TO ACCOMMODATE A VEHICLE. HAD THIS OCCURRED ON A NARROW BACKROAD OR EVEN A CURVY OR HILLY OR BUSY INTERSTATE OR HIGHWAY A MORE DISMAL OUTCOME WOULD HAVE OCCURRED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UP TO 90 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000. UPDATED 08/02/16*LJ AFTER SEVERAL TIMES OF PUMPING THE BRAKES THE CRUISE DISENGAGED AND THE CAR SLOWED DOWN. THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP THE CONSUMER DID NOT USE THE CRUISE AND THE CAR HANDLED WITHOUT ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS. CHRYSLER REPRESENTATIVE STATED UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE CONSUMER DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. NO FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS OR CALLS FROM CHRYSLER. UPDATED 6/19/18*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. AFTER THE LIFTGATE WAS OPENED, IT INDEPENDENTLY CLOSED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A PINCHED ARM THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V191000 (EQUIPMENT). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.

AT ABOUT 100K MILES, THE VAN BEGAN TO MAKE A TICKING SOUND. IT WASN'T UNTIL I PASSED 150K I HAD AN ISSUE WITH A MISFIRE ON CYLINDER 2... TURNS OUT, THEY HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE PENTSTAR V6
BACK UP CAMERA GOES OUT. HAVE HUMMING NOISE IN FRONT AND REAR. REPLACED TIRES STILL HAVE HUMMING NOISE.
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2012 (09/11 PRODUCTION DATE) CHRYSLER TOWN 7 COUNTRY TOURING, VAN, IT HAD 063,200.0 MILES WHEN RECEIVED. PURCHASED FROM A HONEST AND REPUTABLE LOCAL USED CAR DEALER. (IT WAS A NEW CAR TRADE IN FROM A DEALER 45 MILES AWAY) AFTER DRIVING THE VAN FOR APROX. 300 MILES THE AIR BAG LIGHT IN THE DASH CAME ON AND WOULD NOT RESET OR GO OUT. THE DEALER TRIED TO CLEAR THE CODE BUT COULD NOT. THEY DETERMINED THAT IT WAS SOMETHING RELATED TO THE DRIVERS SEAT. AT THEIR RECOMMENDATION I TOOK THE VAN TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER/JEEP/RAM DEALER TO BE CHECKED. THE DEALER CHARGED $95.00 TO CHECK IT AND SAID THAT THERE IS A SHORT IN THE DRIVERS HEAD REST WHICH IS NON-REPAIRABLE AND WILL COST $725.00 (PLUS THE $95.00 CHARGE) TO REPLACE THE HEAD REST. THIS SAFETY SYSTEM FAILURE IS NOT COVERED BY THE FACTORY AFTER THE 36/36 IS EXPIRED. I CALLED THE CHRYSLER FACTORY INFORMATION LINE AND WAS AGAIN TOLD THAT THIS SAFETY SYSTEM FAILURE IS NOT COVERED BY CHRYSLER. IN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE I HAVE SEEN THAT CHRYSLER HAS HAD AT LEAST 840,000 RECALLS INVOLVING HEAD RESTS. HOW CAN I GET CHRYSLER TO REPAIR THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. THE DEALER AND CHRYSLER SAID THAT THE SRS/AIR BAGS WILL NOT WORK IF THE LIGHT IS ON. THIS MEANS I HAVE NO AIR BAG FUNCTION SHOULD I BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I AM VERY CONCERNED AND FEEL THAT A SERIOUS SAFETY SYSTEM FAILURE LIKE THIS SHOULD BE A FACTORY COVERED REPAIR FOR AT LEAST 150,000 MILES. I HAVE BEEN DENIED THE REPAIR BY CHRYSLER, REGARDLESS OF THE POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH IF INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE SRS SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK. I AM A DISABLED VETERAN AND NEED THIS VAN FOR TRANSPORTATION.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACT STRANGELY. WINDSHIELD WIPERS RUNNING, HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF, VEHICLE CAME OUT OF GEAR, THEN STALLED. TOTAL LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY WITH CHILDREN IN VEHICLE. NO LIGHTS, NO FLASHERS. INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN TO BLINK. ONLY WAY TO RECOVER WAS TO PULL BATTERY CABLE AND RESET COMPUTER. MULTIPLE RELAYS INSIDE TIPM MODULE CHATTERING WHILE HAVING ISSUE.
WE RECENTLY PURCHASED OUR VAN AND WERE VERY EXCITED TO GET OUR SECOND TOWN AND COUNTRY. WE REALLY LIKED THE IDEA OF HAVING THE BLIND SPOT DETECTION SYSTEM. A FEW WEEKS INTO OWNING THE VAN WE STARTED GETTING A WARNING ABOUT THE BLIND SPOT SYSTEM NOT BEING AVAILABLE INTERMITTENTLY. NOW AS SOON AS YOU START THE VEHICLE IT STATES IT IS NOT AVAILABLE AND LEAVES THE TRIANGLES LIT IN THE MIRRORS. FROM OTHER POSTS I HAVE READ THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE I HOPE THAT CHRYSLER IS SWIFT TO GET THIS RECALLED SO WE CAN HAVE IT TAKEN CARE OF.

ALSO, WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIPM FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
CAR WAS PARKED. I HAD PREVIOUSLY USED IT THAT DAY. IT WOULD NOT START. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. ON ONE OCCASION WHEN IT FINALLY STARTED IT DISPLAYED OBJECT IN THE REAR OF THE CAR MESSAGE EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO OBJECT.

THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS AND ALL THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT INTO THE PARK POSITION TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THERE WAS A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS BURNED AND THE CONNECTING ROD FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
THIS PROBLEM OCCURS FREQUENTLY. I PUSH THE START BUTTON AND THE ENGINE JUST CONTINUES TO TURN OVER WITHOUT STARTING. IF I PULL OUT THE START BUTTON AND USE THE KEY, THE ENGINE STARTS WITHOUT A PROBLEM. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE TIPM MODULE BUT CHRYSLER WILL NOT REPLACE IT.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT ON A TWO-LANE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AND SHE COULD NOT SEE THE ROAD. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE VAN STOPPED IN THE ROADWAY AS THERE WAS NO OTHER TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. WHEN SHE OPENED THE DOOR TO SEE OF THE DOME LIGHT WOULD COME ON, THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND SHE WAS ABLE TO GET BACK HOME. HAD THERE BEEN MORE TRAFFIC, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH MORE DANGEROUS SITUATION.
TRANSMISSION INTERMITTENTLY LOCKS INTO 2ND GEAR AND WILL NOT SHIFT UP OR DOWN UNTIL VEHICLE IS RESTARTED. THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 45 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS WITH THE COLD MONTHS OF DECEMBER AND JANUARY EACH HAVING 10 INSTANCES. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS JUST AFTER STARTING VEHICLE AND PUTTING INTO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE MAY THUNK OR LURCH FORWARD JUST AFTER STARTING MOTION WHICH INDICATES THE TRANSMISSION HAS MALFUNCTIONED. THERE ARE NO CODES THROWN TO THE TCM. IF IT DOES NOT HAPPEN IN THE 1ST 30 SECONDS IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM AS THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE BUT IT IS SO INTERMITTENT THAT THEY WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE. DEALER SEEMS UNWILLING TO DISCOVER WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. DEALER STATES MANUFACTURER HAS NO RECORDS OF SUCH AN ISSUE WHILE THERE ARE MANY ON THE INTERNET WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME OF SIMILAR ISSUES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES WITH SAME RESULT. FIRST VISIT THE DEALER REPLACED A CYLINDER HEAD FOR A KNOWN CYLINDER #2 MISFIRE ISSUE.

IN ADDITION, THE BLIND SPOT MODULATOR EMITTED A LOUD BEEPING NOISE THAT DID NOT ALLOW THE CONTACT TO HEAR OTHER VEHICLE'S HORNS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED TO PROVIDE ACCURATE READING LEVELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BLIND SPOT MODULATOR SENSOR WAS INSTALLED IN THE BUMPER, WHICH WAS NOT THE PROPER PLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AIR CONDITIONING WENT OUT ON THE CAR COSTING 1300 TO FIX. CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD.
2012 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO BLIND SPOT SENSORS SYSTEM CAUSES A CONSTANT SOUND AND LIGHTS FLASHING INSIDE VEHICLE. CONSUMER SEEKS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH ELECTRICAL COMPONENT REPLACEMENT REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO BE PROVIDED NEW SENSORS OR COMPLETELY REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE REVERSING OUT OF THE GARAGE, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE BLIND SPOT MIRRORS FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BLIND SPOT SENSOR AND THE HARNESS SWITCH THAT CONTROLLED THE CORNER VENT WINDOWS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
BLIND SPOT SAFETY INDICATORS LOCATED IN THE SIDE MIRRORS INTERMITTENTLY ACTIVATE AND STAY ON. THE INDICATORS IN THE SIDE MIRRORS AND ACTIVATION PING ARE A DISTRACTION AND ANNOYING WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY WHEN STATIONARY AND IN MOTION. ALSO HAVE RECEIVED THE REAR VENT SWITCH RECALL WELL OVER A YEAR AGO AND HAD IT DISCONNECTED AT A DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD I WOULD BE PUT ON THE LIST AND NOTIFIED WHEN THEY RECEIVED A REPLACEMENT SWITCH. I HAVE YET TO BE CALLED. I DID HOWEVER RECEIVE A SECOND RECALL NOTICE, MADE A RETURN TRIP TO A DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING AS BEFORE. BOTH OF THESE PROBLEMS APPEAR TO BE A COMMON DEFECT. I WOULD HOPE CHRYSLER COULD CORRECT THESE PROBLEMS IN A TIMELY FASHION AND AT NO EXPENSE TO THE OWNER. THIS IS MY 3RD DODGE/CHRYSLER VAN I HAVE OWNED. I CONSIDER MYSELF A LOYAL CUSTOMER AND HAVE BEEN VERY SATISFIED WITH MY TWO PREVIOUS VANS. I WISH I COULD SAY THE SAME ABOUT THIS ONE.
DRIVING ON 15 FEB. STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN ABOUT TO CROSS 4 LANE ROAD. CAR SHUT OFF AS I HIT THE GAS TO CROSS THE ROAD. CAR COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. HAD TO PUSH VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOPPING PLACE. DIAGNOSED AS PCM FAILURE. ITEM WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. SINCE FAILURE, CONTINUE TO HAVE STARTING PROBLEM AND PERPETUAL WARNING LIGHT THAT SMART BEAM HEADLIGHT SENSOR FOR THE AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAMS IS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. CHRYSLER STATED THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE STARTING ISSUES SO NOTHING THEY CAN DO AND THAT THE SENSOR WARNING IS NOT ASSOCIATED AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED OUT OF POCKET.

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
IN OCTOBER 2014 (APPROX. MILEAGE OF 40K) THE BLIND SPOT MONITORING SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING. DID SOME RESEARCH AND DETERMINED I HAD A BAD RADAR SENSOR BUT THEY COST $900 EACH SO WE TURNED OFF THE BLIND SPOT MONITORING SYSTEM. FEBRUARY 2016 (MILEAGE OF 53K) THE BACKUP CAMERA AND BUMPER SENSORS QUITE WORKING AND WE NOTICED A HOT WIRE SMELL. PULLED OUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE BLIND SPOT MONITORING SENSOR AND FOUND IT BADLY CORRODED AND THE SENSOR SEPARATING AT THE SEAMS ALSO FOUND FUSE BLOWN. REPLACED THE FUSE WITH THE BAD SENSOR DISCONNECTED AND PUT A NEW FUSE IN. CAMERA CAME BACK ON FOR ABOUT TEN SECONDS BEFORE GOING BLACK AGAIN WHEN FUSE BLEW AGAIN. HAD SMOKE COMING OUT OF PASSENGER SIDE REAR BLIND SPOT SENSOR AREA. FOUND THE WIRES MELTED ON THE CONNECTOR AND I HAD TO SNUFF THE WIRES OUT WITH WATER AND CUT THE SENSOR CABLE TO GET THE HOT COMPONENTS OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO PREVENT A FIRE. I THEN REMOVED THE PASSENGER SIDE SENSOR, TERMINATED THE LOOSE WIRES WITH WIRE NUTS AND PUT A NEW FUSE IT. CAMERA AND BUMPER SENSORS ARE WORKING FINE NOW BUT BLIND SPOT MONITORING IS NOT FUNCTIONAL DUE TO THE TWO BAD SENSORS. I SEE TWO ISSUES, FIRST THE BLIND SPOT SENSORS WHICH ARE SOLD AS SAFETY FEATURES FAILED AT 3 YEARS OF USE NOT JUST ONE SENSOR BUT BOTH INDICATING IT IS A POORLY ENGINEERED PART NOT A DEFECTIVE PART. SECONDLY IS THE FUSING SIZE OR WIRING CORRECT FOR THIS CIRCUIT. AS THE FUSE SHOULD BLOW BEFORE WIRES START TO MELT. TO BUY A NEW WIRING HARNESS AND THE TWO SENSORS WILL COST $1700 AND THE SENSOR WILL FAIL AGAIN IN 3 YEARS IF NO MODIFICATIONS ARE MADE TO THE SENSOR. INTERNET SEARCHES SHOW MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT SENSOR FAILURE AND COMPLAINTS ENTERED IN NHSTA DATABASE.
THE BLIND SPOT MONITOR SYSTEM HAS FAILED AT 61109 MILES. THE SENSORS NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE COST IS $2200 AND HAS TO BE REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. I WILL HAVE TO TURN OFF THE SYSTEM AND DRIVE WITHOUT IT. AS A SAFETY SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE, THE SYSTEM SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE SAME TIME PERIOD AS THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM.
TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE TIPM WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. CAR IS HARD TO START AND SOMETIMES SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING.
JUST TODAY MY BLIND SPOT MONITORING SYSTEM SEEMS TO HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE HAS JUST OVER 62,000 MILES ON IT AND IS WELL MAINTAINED AND TAKEN CARE OF. THE SYSTEM FUNCTIONED PROPERLY YESTERDAY AND THEN WHEN MY WIFE DROVE IT TODAY SHE STARTED TO EXPERIENCE THE ISSUE. I HAD TO SHUT OFF THE MONITORING SYSTEM AS THE BLIND SPOT INDICATORS REMAINED LIT SIMULTANEOUSLY AND THE VEHICLE INFORMATION CENTER CONTINUED TO CHIME WITH THE INDICATION TO "SERVICE BLIND SPOT SYSTEM." A SIMPLE ONLINE SEARCH OF "SERVICE BLIND SPOT SYSTEM" BRINGS UP MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THE EXACT SAME THING HAVING HAPPENED TO OWNERS OF THIS VERY SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL OF THIS VEHICLE. ALL OF THESE COMPLAINTS, ON AVERAGE, HAD ROUGHLY THE SAME AMOUNT OF MILES AS MY VEHICLE DOES. ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS ALSO LIST A REPAIR COST OF $1,000 TO $2,000+ AND REMARK THAT IT MAY BE BOTH SENSORS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED AND NOT JUST ONE OF THEM. IF THIS IS TRUE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING THEME, WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE? BOTH SENSORS SHOULD BE REPLACED BY CHRYSLER AT NO COST TO THE MANUFACTURER AS IT SEEMS TO BE A RELATIVELY KNOWN ISSUE.
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING RECALL ENGINE LIGHT IS ON CONNECTING ROD FAILURE WHICH CAN LEAD TO ENGINE LOCK OR CRASHING
CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY WOULD NOT START. I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, TURNED IT ON, THE VAN WOULD NOT START HOWEVER WINDOWS WOULD ROLL DOWN AND RADIO WOULD PLAY. REPLACED THE BATTERY AND ISSUE REMAINED. WOULD STOP TO GET GAS A D WHEN. I GOT BACK IN THE VAN IT WOULD NOT START. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. ONE MINUTE IT RAN JUST FINE AND NEXT THING YOU KNOW IT WOULDN'T START. LEAVING ME STRANDED WITH MY 3 KIDS NUMEROUS TIMES. TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE THE TIPM. NOW THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE REAR AC. IT WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO. SOME DAYS IT WORKS JUST FINE AND OTHER DAYS IT DOESNT. IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. I HAVE VIDEOS OF EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED AT THE GAS STATIONS WHEN WE WERE STRANDED. THE VIDEO SHOWS MY HUSBAND PUTTING THE KEY IN AND THE CAR NOT STARTING.
THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE REAR QUARTER VENT WINDOW SWITCH. THIS CAUSED AN ELECTRICAL FIRE INSIDE MY VAN CAUSING ALL OF THE WINDOWS AND ELECTRIC DOORS TO CEASE OPENING, LITERALLY TRAPPING MY THEN 3 YEAR OLD TWINS INSIDE THE VAN ON 11/30/16. SUPPOSEDLY FIXED ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN 8/31/17. THE SECOND ISSUE INVOLVES A RECALL ON THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE WHEN THE VAN WAS BRAND NEW. IT HAD TO HAVE REPROGRAMMING OF SOFTWARE BECAUSE OF POOR SHIFT QUALITY. THIS WAS DONE ON 1/1/12. THE LAST ALMOST 2 YEARS OF MY LIFE HAVE REVOLVED AROUND THIS ISSUE. MY VAN FREQUENTLY THINKS IT'S STUCK IN REVERSE WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY IN PARK SO IT WON'T START. THIS CAN GO ON FOR DAYS. IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 10/18/16, 11/3/16, 11/30/16, AND AGAIN ON 8/31/17 ALL FOR THIS EXACT REASON. I HAVE NUMEROUS TIME STAMPED PICTURES FROM THE 9 MONTH GAP THAT I STOPPED BRINGING IT IN TO SHOW IT WAS STILL DOING IT. I DIDN'T BRING IT IN, HOWEVER BECAUSE THE ISSUE WAS NEVER RESOLVED BECAUSE NO CODE CAME UP. THIS TIME CHRYSLER HAS CAME UP WITH 8 THINGS THAT IT IS BUT THEY ARE WAITING ON THE BACK ORDERED POWERTRAIN MODULE TO COMPLETE THE LAST OF THE 8 ITEMS. IN THE MEANTIME THEY ARE MAKING ME PAY OVER $1000 OUT OF POCKET FOR A RENTAL I CAN'T AFFORD. THE FIRST TIME THE ELECTRICAL FIRE HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESS WAY IN AN ICE STORM WITH MY CHILDREN AND DOG WHERE THERE WERE NO EXITS. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING WITH THE GIRL I BABYSIT ON A 50MPH ROAD. WHEN THE CAR THINLS IT'S IN REVERSE, IT SOMETIMES HAPPENS WHEN I AM IN THE PICKUP LINE AT SCHOOL CAUSING OTHER PARENTS TP GET ANGRY WHEN I AM BLOCKING EVERYONE. TWICE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS, THE BLIND SPOT DETECTION HAS COMPLETELY MALFUNCTIONED AND STOPPED WORKING. IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT, THAT THE MODULE FOR THE BLIND SPOT SYSTEM IS LOCATED WHERE IT IS EXPOSED TO THE ELEMANTS, AND THE MODULE PLUS THE SENSORS ARE NOT SEALED PROPERLY TO PROTECT THEM FROM THE ELEMANTS. BOTH TIMES, THE REPAIR WAS OVER 1,500 DOLLARS, PLUS IT MADE THE BLIND SPOT SYSTEM UNUSABLE. BOTH TIMES, IT STARTED MESSING UP AFTER THE WEATHER STARTED GETTING BAD. ( LOTS OF RAIN AND SNOW) AND THE SYSTEM STARTED TO MALFUNCTION WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE DEALERSHIP HAS STATED IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT, AND IT IS POSTED ON SEVERAL CAR COMPLAINT FORUMS. THE BLIND SPOT MODULE , AND SENSORS, ARE NOT SEALED PROPERLY, AND ARE INSTALLED IN A PLACE THAT LEAVES THEM EXPOSED. WHEN THE SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS, THE SYSTEM DISABLES ITSELF, AND THE MIRROR LIGHT INDICATORS REMAIN ON, AND THE CAR KEEPS DINGING. THE LIGHTS REMAIN ON, CREATING A DRIVING HAZARD, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT, BECAUSE IT IS HARD TO USE THEM, BECAUSE THE ARE LUMINATED CONSTANTLY WITH THE BRIGHT TRIANGLE LIGHT. THE CONSTANT DINGING IS VERY, VERY DISTRACTING AND NOT TO MENTION FRUSTRATING AND ANNOYING. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT MY 28,000 DOLLAR VEHICLE HAS A SAFETY FEATURE THAT EVERY FEW MONTHS MALFUNCTIONS, AND THEN COSTS OVER 1,500 DOLLARS TO FIX, AND THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED IT AS A KNOWN PROBLEM.

THE COST TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE EACH TIME HAS BEEN OVER 1,500 DOLLARS. AND THAT HAS BEEN SINCE I HAVE JUST OWNED IT SINCE JULY, 2015. IT IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM AND DEFECT. THE MODULE AND SENSORS ARE PLACED WHERE THEY ARE EXPOSED TO THE ELEMANTS, AND THEY ARE NOT PROPERLY SEALED EITHER. THEY STARTED MESSING UP WHEN EVER THE WEATHER WAS BAD ( LOTS OF RAIN AND SNOW), AND THE SYSTEM FINALLY WOULD FAIL. THE ORANGE INDICATOR LIGHTS WOULD STAY ILLUMINATED IN THE MIRRORS, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO USE THE SIDE MORRORS, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE. AND IS VERY DISTRACTING. THE DINGING NOTIFICATION IS VERY UNNERVING, AND A DISTRACTION AS WELL. IT'S RIDICULOUS THAT MY 28,000 DOLLAR VEHICLE HAS A SAFETY FEATURE THAT KEEPS FAILING, AND COSTS OVER 1,500 DOLLARS TO REPAIR, AND THEN 3 MONTHS LATER BREAKS AGAIN!! THE BSM (BLIND SPOT MODULE) FAILS AFTER THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN REPEATEDLY IN BAD WEATHER. WHICH IN EFFECT SHO R TS OUT THE SENSORS. IT IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEMS ON THE CAR COMPLAINT WEBSITES, AND THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM ALSO.
UPON ENTERING AND PRESSING THE START BUTTON, THE VAN STARTS AND IMMEDIATELY DIES. DASH IS DEAD, BUT RADIO AND CENTER STACK STILL LIT UP. PRESS THE BUTTON AGAIN TO SHUT EVERYTHING OFF AND TRY AGAIN. THE VAN WILL USUALLY START AFTER A DELAY. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO CRANKING FOR A LONG TIME AND NOT STARTING AT ALL. THIS WAS HAPPENING EVEN AFTER WE HAD THE ENGINE HEADS AND TRANSMISSION REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BUT IS NOW HAPPENING ABOUT 4 TIMES DAILY.
ON 12/12/2015 BOUGHT A USED 2012 TOWN AND COUNTRY TOURING L WITH PUSH-TO-START FEATURE, WITH 40,500 MILES. STARTING 12/20/2015 I WOULD GET IN THE CAR, STEP ON BRAKE, PUSH THE START BUTTON, THE ENGINE STARTS UP, AND VROOM FOR A COUPLE SECONDS, THEN DIED. IF I PUSH THE START BUTTON AGAIN IT WOULD TRY CRANK ALL DAY BUT WOULD NOT START. I'D HAVE TO FOOT-OFF THE BRAKE AND PUSH START TO HAVE IT IN THE OFF MODE, OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR TO "RESET" EVERYTHING AS I JUST GET IN THE CAR, AND RE-TRY AGAIN, AND IT WOULD START UP NORMALLY. IT WAS A ONCE A WEEK THING, AND NOW ONCE EVERY COUPLE DAYS. I FOUND A LARGE AMOUNT OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND ALL POINTS TO THE TIPM DEFECT. I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE ISSUE, IN ADDITION TO START UP, MIGHT HAPPEN DURING DRIVING. MY CAR IS UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY AND I'LL HAVE IT FIXED SOON, BUT I'M CONCERNED ABOUT IF THE REPLACEMENT WOULD BE THE SAME PARTS THAT WOULD GO BAD AGAIN IN THREE YEARS. WHILE TRAVELING IN THE MIDWEST, CLEVELAND, OHIO, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. I TRIED WAITING A COUPLE OF GAS TANKS TO SEE IF IT WOULD TURN OFF AUTOMATICALLY. IT DID NOT. I WAS SCHEDULED TO LEAVE CLEVELAND, OHIO AND DRIVE BACK TO MOBILE, ALABAMA WITH MY GRANDSON AND DAUGHTER THE WEEKEND OF DEC. 10, 2015, I FELT IT WAS PRUDENT TO HAVE THE VAN LOOKED AT FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEM. I TOOK THE VAN INTO WASHINGTON AND LEE SERVICE ON DEC. 8, 2015. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FOULED IGNITION COIL, AND REPLACED THE COIL, ALL THE SPARK PLUGS AND A GASKET. I RETRIEVED MY CAR ON DEC. 10, 2015 IN THE EARLY AFTERNOON. THAT SAME EVENING, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON, SO I RETURNED THE VAN TO THEM. I RECEIVED A CALL MIDAFTERNOON THAT I NEEDED TO TAKE THE CAR TO A DEALER FOR SERVICE, WHICH IS WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THE ENGINE. I DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT DEACON'S CHRYSLER JEEP IN CLEVELAND, OHIO ON DECEMBER 10, 2015 AND PICKED IT UP ON DECEMBER 14, 2015 AT APPROX. 6 PM. THIS NECESSITATED FINDING A HOTEL ROOM FOR THE DURATION. IN ADDITION, I NEEDED TO SECURE TRANSPORTATION. I PICKED UP THE CAR TOO LATE TO LEAVE THAT DAY AND HAD TO STAY UNTIL THE MORNING OF DEC. 15, 2015. UPON RETURNING TO MOBILE, ALABAMA, THE VAN BEGAN T SHUDDER AND SHAKE WHEN BRAKING. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE AND OUR MECHANIC PERFORMED THE REPAIRS. MY HUSBAND DECIDED TO CHECK ON THE NHTSA SITE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY OTHER DEFECTS IN THE VAN THAT CONSUMERS WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF. WE TOOK THE VAN TO THE AUTONATION CHRYSLER DODGE, WHERE WE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE REPAIR DID NOT FALL UNDER THE SERVICE BULLETIN. I DISPUTE THAT, THE SERVICE BULLETIN SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT THE FRONT ROTOR AND PADS ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.
FAULTY TIPM IDENTIFIED AFTER SEVERAL YEARS OF PROBLEMS. MOST SERIOUS PROBLEM OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED ON THE FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. VEHICLE SPEED DROPPED IMMEDIATELY, WITH NO WARNING, FROM 70 MPH TO 25 MPH. VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT, AND SPEED WOULD NOT INCREASE. POWER STEERING WENT OUT, AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE ACROSS FOUR LANES OF HEAVY TRAFFIC (WITH MY CHILDREN INSIDE) AND COAST TO A SAFE LOCATION WHERE A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED, AND VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THIS WAS THE MOST SERIOUS OF SEVERAL PROBLEMS- ALL OF WHICH APPEAR TO POINT TO A FAULTY TIPM. OTHER PROBLEMS INCLUDE FAULTY TURN SIGNALS, WINDOWS THAT WILL NOT OPEN, REAR FAN THAT TURNS ON AND OFF BY ITSELF, DIFFICULTY SHIFTING, DIFFICULTY STARTING, AND DRAINED BATTERIES. REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTS INCLUDE SOLENOID PACK REPLACEMENT, TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL, BATTERY REPLACEMENT, POWER MODULE REPLACEMENT, BLOWER MOTOR REPLACEMENT- FINALLY LEADING TO TIPM REPLACEMENT.

VEHICLE DASH POWER CYCLED, ALL ALARMS CAME ON, GAUGES STOPPED WORKING, A/C QUIT, WINDOWS WILL NOT WORK, WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL NOT TURN OFF, TURN SIGNALS QUIT, CRUISE QUIT, POWER DOORS WILL NOT OPEN, RADIO/ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM FAILED. "NO BUS" DISPLAYED ON EVIC (DASH). THIS HAS HAPPENED AT STARTUP AND WHILE DRIVING STREETS OR HIGHWAY SPEEDS. PULLING BATTERY CABLES OFF TO RESET DOES NOT WORK. PROBLEM JUST SEEMS TO CLEAR UP ON ITS OWN.

VEHICLE BATTERY DIES OVERNIGHT AND REQUIRES A JUMP START. CLICKING NOISE CAN BE HEARD COMING FROM THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD (TIPM?). VEHICLE IS UNRESPONSIVE TO THE KEY FOB AND ACCESSORY MODE WON'T EVEN TURN ON WHILE KEY IS IN THE VEHICLE. JUMP START REMEDIES THE PROBLEM FOR THE DAY, BUT THIS IS REQUIRED EVERYDAY SINCE THE BATTERY DIES OVERNIGHT.

WE CAME TO A STOP LIGHT , WHILE WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO CHANGE THERE WAS A LOUD POP , ALMOST SOUNDED LIKE A FIRE CRACKER GOING OFF. WE INSTANTLY TURNED AROUND TO FIND THE REAR GATE WINDOW SHATTER. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THE VEHICLE SITTING BEHIND ME AT THE LIGHT HAD HIT MY VEHICLE, BUT WHEN I LOOKED HE WAS PARKED NEARLY 8 FEET AWAY. I TALK TO THE GUY AND HIS WIFE SITTING BEHIND ME AND HE SAID , THAT IT WAS WEIRD IT LOOK AS IF THE WINDOW BLEW OUT FROM THE INSIDE. THE WINDOW JUST EXPLODE. HERE WERE THE CURRENT VARIABLES TAKING PLACE IN THE CAR WHILE AT STOP. 1. THE REAR DEFROST WAS NOT ON 2.THE REAR SIDE VENT WINDOWS WERE BOTH FULLY OPEN 3. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS A COMFORTABLE 70 DEGREES F. NOW AS FOR THE AFTER MATH THERE'S NOT REALLY MUCH TO TELL OTHER THAN THE WINDOW SHATTERED(COMPLETELY GONE) AND GLASS ALL OVER THE PLACE INCLUDING RIGHT NEXT TO MY SONS CAR SEAT. THE FOCAL POINT OF THE BREAK SEEMED TO BE LOCATED AT NEAR DEAD CENTER. I'VE JUST CONTACTED CHRYSLER ABOUT THIS AND I AM GOING TOMORROW TO SEE WHAT THEY SAY. WHEN I GOOGLED THIS PROBLEM I FOUND A HANDFUL OF TOWN AND COUNTRY FROM 01 TO 13 WITH THIS PROBLEM. BUT THEY TELL ME ON THE PHONE THIS IS NOT A COMMON THING AND WILL NEED FCA DEALER TO LOOK AT IT , WHICH IS FINE MY ONLY CONCERN IS THEY FIX THE ISSUE, BECAUSE I CAN REPLACE A WINDOW BUT THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE UNDERLING PROBLEM. THIS REPAIR ON A 2012 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY IS GOING TO BE $1100.00. VERY UNFAIR OF CHRYSLER NOT TO FIX THIS PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY. VERY UNHAPPY WITH CHRYSLER.
