WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, THE BUCKLED SEAT BELT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THIRD ROW SEATING LOCKED IN PLACE AS MY AUTISTIC GRANDSON WRAPPED IT AROUND HIS NECK. I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHICH LUCKILY HAPPENED TO BE A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE EMPLOYEES IN THE SHOP COULD NOT UNBUCKLE THE BELT AND AS MY GRANDSON WAS ALREADY TURNING BLUE THEY HAD TO CUT THE BELT FREE FROM HIM. HE WAS LEFT WITH BRUISING AROUND THE NECK BUT HAD I NOT SEEN HIM IN TIME I FEEL HE WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANGLED TO DEATH. THESE LONG BELTS FROM THE UPPER PART OF THE VEHICLE ARE A HAZARD FOR CHILDREN.*DT*JB*DT*JB
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH ON A MAIN ROADWAY IN OHIO WHILE ON VACATION. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE WENT COMPLETELY DEAD AND STALLED. ALL DISPLAYS WENT BLACK. I HAD NO STEERING AND LIMITED BRAKING ABILITY. I WAS ABLE TO LEAVE THE ROADWAY SAFELY. THEN, I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, AND DRIVE BACK TO OUR VACATION HOME WITHOUT ISSUE.
HEADREST UNEXPECTEDLY POPPED INTO A PROTRUDING POSITION AS OPPOSED TO A COMPACT POSITION. THE FRONT OF THE HEADREST SEPARATED FROM THE PORTION MOUNTED. THE INSIDE OF THE HEADREST MECHANISM IS VISIBLE AND A CONNECTION IS BROKEN. THE HEADREST CAN BE COMPRESSED BACK INTO THE ORIGINAL COMPACT POSITION BUT WILL NOT HOLD AS THE BAR THAT KEEPS THE FRONT OF THE HEADREST ATTACHED TO THE MOUNTED PORTION IS BROKEN. IT NO LONGER "LATCHES" INTO THE CORRECT POSITION. THE VAN WAS STATIONARY. THE VAN WAS RUNNING BUT NOT IN MOTION.
CAR STALLS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. 1 OR 2 TIMES A WEEK. TYPICALLY WHEN GOING SLOW SPEEDS OR COMING TO A STOP. NO ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. ONLY THE TRACTION LIGHT WHICH IS NOT APPLICABLE. AS IT IS DRY AND SUNNY. SOME ELECTRICAL WORKS OFF AND AN. FRONT LED PANEL SLIGHTLY FADES IN AN OUT. FAN MOTOR (LIKE A/C FAN) GOES HIGH AND LOW SPEEDS. MAINLY THE ENGINE JUST SHUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING, SO IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I USED REGULAR KEY INSTEAD OF KEY FOB AND PUSH BOTTOM AND STILL DOES IT. TOOK IT IN TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $850 FOR A NEW ALTERNATOR BUT THEY SAID "TRY THAT FIRST", SO THEY WERE NOT SURE. TOOK IT IN SOMEWHERE ELSE AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. NEEDED A LIGHT TO COME ON FIRST. MEANWHILE I'M DRIVING A CAR THAT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE CHRYSLER.
CAR STARTED SHUDDERING AND STALLING WHILE BRAKING/AT LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SHOWED IT WAS TORQUE CONVERTER. CAR WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. JUST DAYS AFTER THE REPAIR THE CAR WAS WORSE. THEY REPAIRED AGAIN. CAR STILL STALLS JUST DAYS AFTER 2ND REPAIR. THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS. AND MY WARRANTY IS ALMOST OVER. THE CAR STILL SHUDDERS WHEN BRAKING AND STALLS AT LIGHTS.
2014 Chrysler Town & Country – VIN [XXX] Both front active head restraints (driver and passenger) have self-deployed without any crash or impact, on two separate occasions about 3–4 years apart. The first occurred around 2019. Each time we were driving normally with occupants seated. We heard a sudden “pop” and the head restraint opened, exposing the internal mechanism. No one was struck or injured, but the unexpected deployment was distracting and occurred close to an occupant. After each event, the head restraint could not be reset or closed and remains deployed. The vehicle now has an airbag/SRS warning light that stays on, suggesting the restraint system may not function properly in a crash. There were no warning lights or symptoms before deployment. The deployed head restraints are still installed and available for inspection. A Chrysler dealer previously acknowledged the issue and ordered a replacement head restraint, but the repair was not completed due to relocation during the COVID period. IN OCTOBER THE FLEX PLATE CRACKED, REPAIRED. IT CRACKED AGAIN IN DECEMBER, REPAIRED. THEN CRACKED AGAIN IN FEBRUARY, REPAIRED AND TOLD THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD CAUSING FLEX PLATE TO CRACK. CRACKED AGAIN THIS MONTH THEY ARE NOW ARE STATING IT IS THE ENGINE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS VEHICLE FOR A FAMILY. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT IT OVER 35 DAYS IN 8 MONTHS. CHRYSLER DOES NOT WANT TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES. IT HAD LESS THAN 100, 000 MILES ON IT.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN, NO POWER STEERING, LITTLE BRAKING, NO LIGHTS ON DISPLAY. THIS WOULD HAPPEN RANDOMLY WITH NO ENGINE LIGHT WARNINGS. HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES. ONCE SHUTDOWN IN MIDDLE OF MAJOR INTERSECTION AND IT WOULD NOT START UP, WOULD TRY TO TURN OVER. IT ALSO SEEMS TO HAPPEN AROUND 35-45 MPH AND COMING TO A STOP. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP HOOKED IT UP ON COMPUTER NO ENGINE LIGHT OR SENSOR TRIPED AND WHILE IT WAS IDLING CAR SHUTDOWN ASKED SERVICE MANAGER TO CHECK ABOUT A RECALL ON 2011 VEHICLES (P54) BUT THEY SAID NO RECALL. I TAKE IT TO WORK EVERY DAY LESS THEN A MILE AWAY AND CAR HAS SHUTDOWN ON ME TWICE. AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANY DISTANCE
I HAVE GOT A #2 CYL MISFIRE THAT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AS A BAD HEAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER DOING A LITTLE BIT OF RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT CHRYSLER DID A FIX ON SEVERAL OTHER YEARS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE BUT DOES NOT COVER THE 2014 MODEL PER CHRYSLER. CHRYSLER HAS TOLD ME THAT PER MY VIN I AM NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED COVERAGE AND THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT FIX THIS IS. I DID NOT HAVE TO SEARCH VERY LONG ON THE INTERNET TO FIND OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE 2014 MODEL MOTOR THAT HAVE SUFFERED THE SAME FAILURE THAT I HAVE AND ALSO CONSISTENT WITH THE PREVIOUS FIX.
INVOICE DATE 06/12/2019: VAN ON STARTUP LOUD TAPPING FROM THE ENGINE. AFTER TAKING TO THE DEALER, WAS TOLD A ROCKER ARM HAD FAILED AND DAMAGED THE INTAKE CAMSHAFT ON THE RIGHT/FRONT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. HAD TO HAVE ALL 12 ROCKER ARMS REPLACED (5184296AH), THE INTAKE CAMSHAFT (5184380AG), ALL 12 TAPPET VALVE LASH (5184332AA). WAS TOLD BY DEALER THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE V6 PENTASTAR ENGINES. AN ONLINE SEARCH REINFORCES THIS STATEMENT. TOTAL COST WAS $1,356.54
NUMBER ONE THE ENGINE HAS BEEN REBUILT TWICE BECAUSE OF ENGINE MISFIRE. ALSO THE GAS PEDAL SOMETIMES GETS STUCK WHICH IS DANGEROUS . AND NOW THE AIR BAG SENSOR HAS BEEN ON AND THERE IS NO REASON FOR IT TO BE ON. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS WITH THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE IN REGARDS TO THE AIR BAG SENSOR. IT IS THE FRONT AIR BAG SENSOR THAT IS ON. I NEED THIS REPAIRED . IT IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THE AIR BAG WILL WORK CORRECTLY
DEFOGGER INEFFICIENT AND UNSAFE WHEN RAINING IN SUMMER CAUSED BY KNOWN PROBLEM WITH A/C HEAT BLEND DOOR STICKING. AC ON ONE SIDE HIGH HEAT ON OTHER..CONDENSATION FORMS ON INSIDE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. FCA FIXING FOR FREE ON SOME 2014 -2105 MODELS BUT NOT ALL EVEN THOUGH SAME ISSUE REPORTED AND SAME PARTS (IDENTICAL PART NUMBERS) INVOLVED ON SAME VEHICLE IN SAME TIME FRAME.
BOTH DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE HEADRESTS HAVE SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOYED WITHIN A 6 MONTH PERIOD. THIS IS DUE TO A FLAWED DESIGN BY CHRYSLER ENGINEERING (USED PLASTIC CLIPS TO CONSTRAIN STRONG SPRING LOADED ACTUATORS IN THE HEADREST). THE DRIVER SIDE DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, HITTING ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD AND DISTRACTING ME IN TRAFFIC!
WHILE MY WIFE AND CHILDREN WERE MAKING A LEFT-HAND TURN IN THE FAR LEFT LANE THE VAN COMPLETELY WENT DEAD. THEY LOST ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE, LOST ALL POWER STEERING, LOST ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, AND LOST ALL ABILITY TO BREAK. THE CAR TRAVELED ACROSS BOTH LANES AND LUCKILY INTO A SHOPPING CENTER TURN LANE, WHERE THEY APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP. LANDSCAPERS SAW WHAT HAPPENED AND WERE ABLE TO PUSH THE CAR INTO THE PARKING LOT. THE DASHBOARD STAYED LIT AND THE AC FAN CONTINUED TO BLOW. IT'S ALMOST AS IF THE BATTERY WAS STILL ON, BUT THEY HAD NO MECHANICAL FUNCTIONS. WE HAD THE VAN TAKEN TO TEQUESTA TIRE CO WHERE THEY DID A FULL INSPECTION. AFTER A FULL INSPECTION, THEY DETERMINED THE PROBLEM TO BE A POSSIBLE "FLUKE". AFTER ADDITIONAL RESEARCH ONLINE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDER ISSUE WITH OTHER T&C OWNERS. OTHER OWNERS SAY THEY HAVE NOT FOUND THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE AND SPEND A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MONEY WITH NO RESOLUTION OR CAUSE.
CAR PARKED AND OFF IN DRIVEWAY. AFTER EXITING VEHICLE BUT BEFORE CLOSING DOOR, DRIVERS HEADREST POPPED AND FRONT SECTION SEPARATED FROM REAR SECTION ON RIGHT SIDE. VISUAL INDICATION OF PLASTIC BRACKET SHEARED. NO POWER ON VEHICLE. UPON TESTING IGNITION ASSOCIATED AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING FAILURE OF AIRBAGS OR AHR. NO COLLISIONS IN VEHICLE HISTORY OR ASSOCIATED WITH EVENT. NO DEPLOYMENT OF PASSENGER AHR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AUTOMATIC PASSENGER DOOR OPENED WITHOUT WARNING INTERMITTENTLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
1. VAN IS RANDOMLY NOT STARTING 3-5 TIMES PER WEEK. REPLACED BATTERY ISSUE OF NOT STARTING STILL REMAINED. USING A JUMP STARTER BATTERY PACK TO START VEHICLE--STARTS RIGHT UP AFTER FEW MINUTES OF IT BEING CONNECTED. TOOK IT TO OWEGO, NY ROYAL CHRYSLER WAS GIVEN NO DIAGNOSIS. 4 DAYS LATER, TOOK TO LOCAL MECHANIC TOLD MY TIPM WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY HUSBAND BOUGHT A USED TIPM OFF EBAY AND REPLACED IT ON 8/7/19 SO FAR NO MORE ISSUES WITH IT NOT STARTING. 2. DIGITAL MESSAGE RANDOMLY APPEARS 1-2 TIMES PER MONTH SINCE MAY 22 MANUALLY OPERATE LIFTGATE. TOOK TO CHRYSLER OWEGO ROYAL TOLD MY LATCH SYSTEM IS RUSTED OUT. MY HUSBAND CLIMBED INTO THE TRUNK ONCE I GOT HOME WITH THIS REPORT---SEES NO SIGNS OF RUST. DISCONNECTED SWITCH THEN RECONNECTED IT--SOLVED PROBLEM FOR 2 1/2 MONTHS. MESSAGE JUST CAME ON AGAIN ON 8/21 MY HUSBAND DID SAME THING DISCONNECT THEN RECONNECT WORKING FINE NOW. ROYAL CHRYSLER WANTED $1600 TO REPAIR ACTUATOR. 3. SERVICE BLIND SPOT SYSTEM NOW APPEARS ON DIGITAL MESSAGE AS OF MAY 22 SAME DAY LIFTGATE MESSAGE CAME ON. THIS MESSAGE HAS NOT GONE OFF SINCE. TOOK TO CHRYSLER WANTED $546.00 TO REPAIR CHOOSE NOT TO REPAIR TOO EXPENSIVE. HUSBAND LOOKING TO BUY PARTS TO REPAIR HIMSELF ON EBAY. CONTACTED CHRYSLER GO NO WHERE TOLD PARTS NOT UNDER RECALL OR WARRANTY.
WHILE IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET, MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL LIT UP, WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON AND COULDN'T BE TURNED OFF, TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING, AS WELL AS THE SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, TEMPERATURE GADGE, RADIO, AND HEATING/COOLING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE STILL DRIVES, BUT IS NOT SAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD DUE TO NO SPEEDOMETER AND TURN SIGNALS. ALSO, MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WAS ROLLED DOWN AND IS NOW STUCK IN THE DOWNWARD POSITION
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER, LIGHTING FOR GAUGES, RADIO, ODOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, ETC, SLOWED TO AROUND 20 MPH (70 MPH ZONE) ENGINE BEGAN SMOKING. WAS ABLE TO EXIT AND ROLLED ONTO SIDE STREET. SMOKE EMANATING FROM UNDER HOOD. ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART. VEHICLE INSPECTED BY MECHANIC WHO CONCLUDED: ENGINE BLOWN. VEHICLE PURCHASED USED ONLY 4 MONTHS PRIOR. OIL CHANGED AND FLUSH AND FILL PERFORMED BY CERTIFIED MECHANIC 1 MONTH AGO.
THE VAN SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING, TONIGHT I WAS TRAVELING AND AS I STARTED DE ACCELERATION FOR A STOP LIGHT THE VAN SHUT OFF AND I LOST POWER STEERING AND BREAKS. THISNCOUKDVE BEEN VERY BAD ESPECIALLY IF I HAD MY KIDS IN THE CAR.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE DASHBOARD LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF LOCKING THE WHEEL. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. ABOUT A MONTH LATER WE WERE DRIVING HOME FROM A SOCCER GAME AND THE CAR CAME OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 70 MPH. THE RPM SHOT UP AND I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE OVER 40 MPH. WE ENDED UP STAYING THE NIGHT AND HAVING THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR SOLENOID PAC. 6 MONTHS LATER I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM A SOCCER TOURNAMENT AND THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED AGAIN HOWEVER I HAD SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN DRIVING THROUGH A RESIDENTIAL AREA AND WENT TO SPEED UP AFTER RE-ENTERING THE HIGHWAY. THE RPM'S WERE AT 4 TO 5 GOING 30 MPH. I PULLED OVER TURNED OFF THE CAR AND LET IT SIT FOR 5 MINUTES. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY AFTER THAT , THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THE COULD DO. STORED CODES ECU: ABS DTC: C212A16 DESCRIPTION: STORED- SYSTEM VOLTAGE-CIRCUIT VOLTAGE BELOW THRESHOLD; ECU: PCM DTC: P075A DESCRIPTION: LC SOLENOID CIRCUIT ECU: DMFL/DMFR DTC: B21A1 DESCRIPTION: STORED- ECU RESET/RECOVERY OCCURRED. I HAVE 71,000 MILES ON THE ENGINE AND IT'S UNDER WARRANTY FOR 13 MONTHS MORE OR 28,000 MILES. PLEASE HELP!
THE CABLE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW KEEPS BREAKING. IT'S BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THE WINDOW FELL AND BUSTED IN THE DOOR. THE 2ND TIME IT DID NOT BREAK BUT I HEARD THE CABLE SNAP IN THE DOOR.
TAKATA RECALL. .ON 04/03/2019 APPROXIMATELY 3:45 PM I WAS ON A CITY RESIDENTIAL STREET MOVING AT 30 MPH. I WAS COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN GOING DOWNHILL AND I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PRESSED AGAIN AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED I PUMPED THEM SEVERAL TIMES AND NOTHING. I WENT THRU THE STOP STREET AND ANOTHER CITY BLOCK AT A DEAD END I HIT A GUARD RAIL HEAD-ON AND TORE IT COMPLETELY OUT. I WENT 100 FEET INTO A WOODED AREA AND TORE OUT MANY TREES ABOUT 1 - 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER. I CAME TO AND ABRUPT STOP AGAINST FOUR TREES ABOUT 3-5 INCHES IN DIAMETER. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND THE SEAT BELTS DID NOT LOCK.. I AM A RETIRED POLICE OFFICER SO I PAID ATTENTION TO WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I CALLED 911 AND GOT THE POLICE ON THE WAY. REPORT # [XXX]. WHILE I WAS WAITING I TRIED THE BRAKES AGAIN AND AFTER TWO PUMPS THEY WORKED. BY THE WAY THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. I THEN PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PUSHED DOWN SLOWLY AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN. I HAD A SCOOTER AND LIFT ON THE BACK AND IT HAD COME THRU THE BACK WINDOW FROM THE SUDDEN STOP AGAINST THE TREES. I HAD JUST PURCHASED THIS FROM WOLFCHASE HYUNDAI IN MEMPHIS TN. ON 01/21/2019 AND HAD EXAMINED IT AS THOROUGHLY I AS COULD AND HAD A CARFAX REPORT THAT SAID NO ACCIDENTS. WHEN I REPORTED THE ACCIDENT TO STATE FARM INSURANCE THEY SAID IN MAY OF 2017 IT WAS IN A BAD ACCIDENT IN MO AND THAT THE GRILL, BUMPER, LEFT HEADLIGHT FENDER AND DOOR WERE ALL REPLACED. AND NO AIRBAG DEPLOYED.. I HAVE PICTURES ON MY DAUGHTERS IPHONE BUT NOT MINE. I WOULD LIKE YOU TO HAVE THEM. PLEASE ADVISE HOW I CAN GET THEM TO YOU. MY VEHICLE IS SITTING AT PAINT AND BODY PERFECTORS IN NASHVILLE TN. THE GRILL, HOOD, BOTH FENDERS, BOTH HEADLIGHTS, DRIVERS DOOR, PASSENGER DOOR, BACK GLASS, ,TRANSMISSION CASE, AXLE, RIGHT FRONT WHEEL AND TIRE ALL DESTROYED. EXACTLY ONE YEAR AGO MY VAN (72,000 MILES) STARTED MISFIRING / IDLING ROUGH (CODE: P0301), I CHANGED THE COIL AND SPARK PLUG IN CYLINDER 1. THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. A SHORT TIME AFTER THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A LOUD TICKING NOISE. I STILL HAD MILES LEFT ON MY WARRANTY SO TOOK IT FOR SERVICE. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH CAM SHAFTS, 12 ROCKER ARMS AND 12 TAPPET-VALVE LASH ON THE BACK SIDE. THIS REPAIRED THE ISSUE UNTIL A COUPLE MONTHS LATER - THE OIL FILTER HOUSING STARTED LEAKING. THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF. NO RHYME OR REASON. MULTIPLE OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. ALSO AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOYED ON ANY ACCIDENT, WE HAVE HAD TWO WHERE WE WERE STRUCK FROM BEHIND AND AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY. CHRYSLER IS FORCING OWNERS TO FIX THIS ISSUE INSTEAD OF DOING A RECALL OR INVESTIGATION. I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN VEHICLE KNOWING THE AIRBAG IS MALFUNCTIONING.
AIRBAG DASH SIGNAL INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATES. IT SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO A SENSOR IN THE DRIVER SEATBELT. WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE OF $375. IT CHIMES WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL. I'M NOT CONFIDENT THAT THE AIRBAG WILL SAFELY DEPLOY IF IN AN ACCIDENT
ON MARCH 12, 2019 MY VAN BURST INTO FLAMES WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE VAN WAS A TOTAL LOSS AND MY VW WHICH WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF THE VAN WAS DEEMED TO BE A TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THERE WAS ALSO EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE TO THE FRONT WALL OF MY HOME AND LANDSCAPING. THE VAN HAD BEEN DRIVEN LOCALLY APPROXIMATELY THREE HOURS PRIOR TO THE FIRE.*DT*JB

INVOICE DATE 02/28/2019: WHILE DRIVING THE OIL FILTER/COOLER ON TOP THE ENGINE CRACKED OPEN AND STARTED PUMPING OIL OUT AND ALL OVER THE TRANSMISSION. HAD ADAPTER ENGINE OIL FILTER COOLER (68105583AF) REPLACED. THIS COULD HAVE TRASHED THE ENGINE HAD I NOT SMELLED OIL THROUGH THE VENTS AND CHECKED TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. CAUGHT IT EARLY ENOUGH IT ONLY LOST 1/4 A QUART OF OIL. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THEY REPLACE A LOT OF THESE ON THE V6 PENTASTAR ENGINES. AN ONLINE SEARCH REINFORCES THIS CLAIM. TOTAL COST WAS $923.98

I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY AIR BAG LIGHT COMING ON OVER THE LAST YEAR. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER IN ILLINOIS IN SEPTEMBER AND THEY GOT IT TO SHUT OFF BUT IT STARTED GOING ON AND OFF A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO AND NOW IT IS ON PERMANENTLY.
WE OWN A 2014 TOWN AND COUNTRY WITH A 3.6L V6 ENGINE, AND 94,500 MILES. STILL WITHIN THE ENGINE/POWER TRAIN 100,000 MILES GUARANTEE. OUR CAR LEAKS MOTOR OIL PROFUSELY GIVEN CRACKS IN THE ENGINE OIL COOLER. CHRYSLER'S REPLACEMENT PART NUMBER IS: 68105583AF. DOCUMENTED OIL LOSS PROBLEMS APPEARED INTO MULTIPLE MODELS USING THE 3.6L ENGINE DODGE: - AVENGER ' CARAVAN ' DURANGO -CHALLENGER. JEEP: - WRANGLER AND GRAND CHEROKEE, AMONG OTHERS. FIAT CHRYSLER MANUFACTURED THE OIL FILTER HOUSING OUT OF PLASTIC TO SAVE COSTS. COMMON SENSE MANDATES THAT NOTHING ATTACHED TO THE ENGINE SHOULD BE MADE FROM PLASTIC. THEIR ENGINEERING TEAM INCURRED INTO POOR MANUFACTURING DECISIONS. THEY SHOULD RATHER USE METAL FOR ENGINE'S PARTS EXPOSED TO TORQUE, HEAT AND EXPANSION. GIVEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS, FIAT CHRYSLER FINALLY DISCONTINUED THE ORIGINAL PARTS NUMBERS 68105588 (THE ONE PROVIDED WITH OUR UNIT). FAIR IS TO SAY THAT THE NEW REPLACEMENTS ARE STILL MADE FROM PLASTIC. THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS ORIGINATED OIL LEAKS AND ENGINE OVERHEATING. INVOLVING SUBSTANTIAL RISKS OF ENGINE FAILURE, EXPENSIVE REPAIRS AND FIRE HAZARDS. CHRYSLER KNEW THEY HAD A PROBLEM BUT DECIDED NOT TO RECALL DEFECTIVE UNITS AND RATHER DEALING WITH CUSTOMERS ON A CASE-BY-CASE BASIS. CHRYSLER'S DEALERS WANT TO CHARGE $150 FOR INSPECTION, AND $780 FOR PARTS AND LABOR FOR REPLACEMENT. WE CALLED CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE ON 1/21/2019, BUT FIAT CHRYSLER REFUSED TO AID ARGUING THAT THE 5-YEAR GUARANTEE PERIOD HAD EXPIRED. THEY ALSO REFUSED ANY GUARANTEE PERIOD EXTENSION. IT IS UNFAIR THAT THE PUBLIC MUST BEAR REPLACEMENT COST FOR POORLY MANUFACTURED PARTS. CHRYSLER SHOULD ASSUME FULL OWNERSHIP FOR MISTAKES AND RECALL DEFECTIVE UNITS, OR EXTEND THE PROTECTION GUARANTEE PERIOD FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS.
ABOUT JANUARY 15, 2019 WE NOTICED A RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON THE RIGHT OR PASSENGER SIDE. THE RATTLING WAS ONLY NOTICEABLE IF YOU WERE STANDING NEXT TO THE VAN WHEN IT WAS IDLING. THE RATTLING HAS GOTTEN WORSE SO WE TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER & FOUND OUT WE NEED TO REPLACE 4 CAMSHAFTS & 24 ROCKER ARMS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE. MOSTLY AFTER 120,000. MILES. OUR VAN ONLY HAS 94,855 MILES. STILL UNDER THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY BUT 10 MONTHS PAST THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY. THE DEALER & CHRYSLER SCA TOLD ME THEY WON'T FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY. THIS SHOULD BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY SINCE WE ARE UNDER THE 100,000. MILES. THE DEALER TOLD ME IF THERE WERE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS THAT MIGHT BE ENOUGH TO START A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. THERE IS DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. TODAY'S ENGINES SHOULD RUN 500,000. MILES MINIMUM BEFORE HAVING TO DO MAJOR WORK TO THE ENGINE.
OIL COOLER OR OIL FILTER HOUSING HAS FAILED EITHER IN MANUFACTURE OR SEALS CAUSING OIL LEAK TO PUDDLE ON TOP OF ENGINE, POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD
THE 'NO FUSE' INDICATOR COMES ON AT RANDOM TIMES. IT MAY STAY ON FOR MONTHS AT A TIME AND SOMETIMES WILL JUST FLUCTUATE BETWEEN THE ODOMETER AND NO FUSE INDICATION. EVERYTHING ELECTRICAL STILL WORKS WHILE THE NO FUSE INDICATION IS ON. THE FUSE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO NO AVAIL. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS MOVING OR STATIONARY. PRESENTLY IT IS PARKED. WHEN DOOR IS OPENED THE NO FUSE INDICATOR COMES ON. WHILE AT FIRESTONE TODAY GETTING THE TIRES ROTATED, THE SERVICE WRITER SAID HE HAS SEEN THIS ON NUMEROUS TOWN AND COUNTRY VANS.
VEHICLE HAS 116,000 MILES ON IT. FIRST TRANSMISSION WENT AT 92,000 MILES. SECOND ONE JUST WENT AT 116,000.
THE OIL FILTER HOUSING IS PLASTIC AND APPEARS TO BE A WEAK PART AND KNOWN ISSUE. MINE BROKE WHICH LEAKED OIL ALL OVER MY ENGINE. I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT BROKE BUT A FOUND OIL IN THE DRIVEWAY.

OUR VAN DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WON'T OPEN. YOU CAN'T UNLOCK IT. IT WORKED IN THE MORNING AND THEN WENT TO OPEN IT AGAIN AND WON'T OPEN.

THE FLYWHEEL WAS CRACKED HORRIBLY AND THE VAN COULDN'T BE DRIVEN . THE MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE IT.
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING AND PUT INTO PARK OR HAS BEEN IN PARK IDLING, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (AND ENGINE) INTERMITTENTLY (ONCE A MONTH) SHUTS DOWN AND THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RE-STARTED. THE CLIMATE CONTROL FAN LEVEL RESETS TO FULL BLAST, TEMPERATURE SETTING RESETS, AND THE CLOCK RESETS TO 12:00. SO FAR THIS HASN'T HAPPENED WITH THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE.
FAULTY OIL FILTER ADAPTER. THIS PART IS MADE OUT OF PLASTIC AND CANNOT TAKE THE STRESS OF BEING REMOVED AND PUT BACK TOGETHER IT MUST BE UNSCREWED EVER TIME OIL CHANGE IS DONE . PART SPLITS THE HOUSING CAUSING A MAJOR OIL LEAK THAT COULD CAUSE A FIRE OR ACCIDENT OIL IS BEING SPILLED ON EXHAUST IF MOTOR RUNS OUT OF OIL IT WILL NO LONGER RUN AND VEHICLE WOULD STOP IN MIDDLE OF ROAD. THERE ARE SEVERAL TSB BULLETINS OUT ON THIS ISSUE STILL CHRYSLER HAS NOT MADE GOOD ON IT. IN MY OPINION THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED ITS A MAJOR FLAW THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO.PART# 68105583AF IS THE PART IN QUESTION.
