The battery, the check engine, and the throttle body warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the contact noticed an abnormal odor while the vehicle was parked. The contact noticed there was smoke coming from underneath the hood. The contact's father lifted the hood and removed the positive (+) charge cable from the battery. The contact's father replaced the battery and the alternator; however, the failure recurred while driving. The contact's father replaced the alternator for the second time. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 08V152000 (Electrical System) and 07V426000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), however, the dealer confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 255,000.
I saw there was a recall for the same car as mine but one year earlier. My car is leaking gas which was the effects of this recall. Could it possibly be affecting the 2008 also?
Gas tank straps wore a hole in my gas tank because they move around
WHEN FUELING THE VEHICLE THE GAS PUMP WILL SHUT OFF WHEN THE TANK IS FULL, BUT THE CAR'S FUEL TANK WILL BLOW GAS OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE AND DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU ARE FILLING THE CAR SLOW OR FAST. IT DOES THIS AT ALL GAS STATIONS SO IT IS NOT THE GAS STATION'S FUEL PUMPS.
FUEL OVERFLOWS WHILE FILLING TANK REGARDLESS OF REFUELING RATE, AMBIENT TEMPERATURE, OR SERVICE STATION. THIS HAPPENS NEARLY EVERY REFUEL CAUSING AN ENVIRONMENTAL MESS AND WASTING MONEY.
WHEN FILLING THE TANK ALL THE WAY TO FULL FROM EMPTY GAS PUMP WILL SHUT OFF AND YOU WILL HEAR THE "CLICK" NOZZLE IS STILL IN FUEL HOLE AND FUEL SPRAYS EVERYWHERE. RUNS DOWN VEHICLE ONTO BRAKE SYSTEM. HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. VEHICLE WAS OFF AND PARKED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND THE SADDLE TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
GAS SPILLS OUT WHEN PUMPING GAS EVEN AFTER THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. DODGE SAID THEY WILL NOT COVER IT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD.
FUEL ERUPTS FROM THE FILLER TUBE EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED. WHEN THE NOZZLE SHUTS OFF WHETHER IT IS AUTOMATICALLY OR MANUALLY SHUT OFF THE FUEL STILL SPLASHES BACK THROUGH THE FILL TUBE CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD.
I'VE OWNED THE CAR SINCE IT WAS NEW. A COUPLE OF TIMES THIS PAST SUMMER WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK, THE FUEL OVERFLOWED BEFORE THE GAS NOZZLE AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A FAULTY GAS NOZZLE. RECENTLY IT HAS BEEN OVERFLOWING EVERY TIME I FILL UP, REGARDLESS OF WHICH GAS STATION OR PUMP. THE PAST 5-6 TIMES IT HAS OVERFLOWED. IT IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF FUEL THAT COMES BACK, AND IT DOESN'T JUST TRICKLE OUT. IF YOU ARE NOT STANDING OFF TO THE SIDE IT WILL SPRAY YOU. THEN IT RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. I AM CAREFUL TO STOP THE PUMP BEFORE IT GETS FULL, BUT EVEN THEN IT SOMETIMES OVERFLOWS. I WOULD ESTIMATE THE AVERAGE AMOUNT OF FUEL SPILLAGE TO BE AROUND 12 OUNCES. *TR

(EYE WAS FLUSHED WITH WATER UPON RETURNING HOME AND A HOSPITAL VISIT WAS AVOIDED) EVERY TIME THIS VEHICLE AND MANY OTHER AVENGERS HAVE FUEL ADDED TO THE TANK, IT IS REPORTED THAT THERE IS A SEVERE SPLASH BACK OR SPIT BACK THAT OCCURS CAUSING A SEVERE POTENTIAL OF SEVERE RISK TO LIFE, HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT VIA FLAME, FIRE, EXPLOSION OR CONTAMINATION. DEALER CLAIMS THAT PER CHRYSLER THE FUEL FILLER NECK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST. AFTER VERY THOROUGH INVESTIGATIONS ON MY OWN, IT APPEARS THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE AND THE DEALERS ARE REPLACING FUEL FILLER NECKS AND COMPLETE FUEL TANKS WHERE THE WHOLE ISSUE IS CAUSED BY A FUEL SAFETY ROLLOVER VALVE LOCATED WITHIN THE FUEL SYSTEM. THIS IS NO JOKING MATTER. NONE OF THESE REPAIRS SHOULD HOLD THE OWNERS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COSTLY REPAIRS OF THE FAULTY FUEL SYSTEM WITH SUCH NUMEROUS REPORTS OF FAILURE. *TR
VEHICLE STARTED HAVING ISSUES STARTING AND THEN IT WOULD START AND RUN FINE AND THEN DIE.I WAS CONTACTED AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS NOT COMING ON AND THEN WOULD ALL THE SUDDEN COME ON ANDTHEN QUIT SO I REMOVED THE REAR SEAT AND UNPLUGGED THE WIRE HARNESS AND COULD SEE WHERE IT HAD BEEN BURNED AND LOOKED AT THE TOP OF THE PUMP WHERE THE HARNESS PLUGS IN AND COULD SEE AND SMELL GAS.I REMOVED THE FUEL PUMP AND YOU COULD SEE WHERE ONE OF THE WIRE HARNESSES INSIDE THE FUEL TANK ON THE FUEL PUMP HAD BURNED A HOLE ALL THE WAY THROUGH.IN THE WHOLE PROCESS OF THIS NO FUSE EVER BLEW TO SHUT POWER OFF AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO FUSE BY SOMEONE AT THE DODGE DEALER.I PROCEEDED TO LOOK ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE AND NOBODY HAS REPORTED IT THE CHANGED THERE FUEL PUMP BUT THAT DOES NOT FIX THE ISSUE. IF THERE IS NO FUSE TO BLOW SOMEBODY IS GOING TO GET HURT AND IF THERE IS A FUSE WHY ARE THEY NOT BLOWING. *TR
THE FILE SHOWS THAT THIS CARS HAS HAD THE FUEL TANK STRAP WE'RE REPLACE AS THE RECALL STIPULATED BUT ON OCTOBER 2013 THE FUEL TANK STARTED TO LEAK. AFTER INSPECTION, THERE WAS A LOT OF WEAR BETWEEN THE FUEL STRAP AND THE TANK ITSELF, ENOUGH WEAR TO START LEAKING. WHEN REMOVING THE STRAP, THE FUEL STARTED LEAKING A LOT MORE. THERE WAS ENOUGH MOVEMENT THAT THE STEEL ON THE TANK WHERE THE TANK PASSES WAS SHINY. HAD TO REPLACE THE TANK AND PAY FOR IT MYSELF. *TR

THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT MAIN COMPUTER MAY HAVE NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,023.
WHEN FILLING UP GAS TANK, PUMP DOESN'T SHUT OFF PROPERLY. HAPPENS AT EVERY PUMP. HAD GAS TANK REPLACED ONCE BECAUSE FUEL TANK ROLLOVER VALVE HAD MELTED SHUT. WORKED FOR ABOUT 1,000 MILES WITH NEW TANK, ONCE AGAIN SHOOTS OUT GAS AND DOES NOT SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH DODGE AVENGERS 2008, HOWEVER DODGE DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT. EPA WILL GO CRAZY IF THEY FIND OUT, ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT IT IS OUTRIGHT DANGEROUS TO HAVE FUEL COMING BACK OUT OF THE TANK ONTO THE GROUND. GREATER THAN HALF A GALLON COMES OUT EACH TIME. SLOWING PUMPING, BURPING, FUELING FAST, HOLDING NOZZLES AT DIFFERENT DEPTHS DOES NOTHING TO ALLEVIATE ISSUE. *TR
