INCIDENT HAPPENED OCT. 2, 2020... I WAS DRIVING ACROSS AN INTERSECTION, MY WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE AND I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE... VERY TERRIFYING!! MADE IT THRU THE INTERSECTION, WAS ABLE TO GET OF THE ROAD... WHEN THE MECHANIC (THE MAN THAT PUSHED MY CAR BACK TO MY RESIDENCE) TOOK A LOOK UNDER THE BOTTOM... IT WAS TOTALLY ROTTED OUT, WHICH IN FACT CAUSED MY WHEEL TO DETACH FORM THE VEHICLE ... I COULD HAVE LOST MY LIFE, NOW I AM OUT OF A VEHICLE NO MONEY AND I HAVE TO PAY INSURANCE... TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE CALIBER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CHECKED THE AIR PRESSURE AND FOUND THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE VALVE STEM WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000. UPDATED 02/11/2014 *BF THE TIRE VALVE STEMS HAD CORRODED AND BROKE OFF, AND CAUSED THE TIRES TO GO FLAT.
WITH ONLY 38,550 MILES ON MY CAR (WHICH HAS BEEN WELL CARED FOR) I HAD TO HAVE THE WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED. WHEN I PICKED IT UP, MY MECHANIC (WHO HAS BEEN THE ONLY MECHANIC I HAVE USED FOR OVER 10 YEARS) TOLD ME THAT THE BALL JOINTS WERE ALSO TOTALLY SHOT & HAD TO BE REPLACED. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THE DANGER I WAS PUTTING MYSELF & OTHERS IN, HAD HIM DO THE BALL JOINTS THE NEXT DAY. THESE 2 PARTS SEEMED TO NEED REPLACEMENT WAY BEFORE THEY SHOULD HAVE. THE DEALERSHIP HERE (SERVICE PERSON/AL) TOLD ME SINCE I WAS OVER MY 3 YEAR, 36,000 MILE WARRANTY, (AND HAVEN'T BEEN THERE IN 2 YEARS) THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE WORK WAS COMPLETED BY MY MECHANIC, I STOPPED AT THE BANK. THERE I SAW ANOTHER DODGE CALIBER PULL IN. WHILE IN THE BANK, I SPOKE WITH THAT DRIVER. SHE TOLD ME SHE JUST HAD THE WHEEL BEARINGS DONE ALSO. IM NOT SURE WHAT YEAR HER CAR WAS BUT IT APPEARED TO BE NEWER THAN MINE! WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THESE CARS? SHOULDN'T THE DEALER HAVE HAD A LITTLE MORE INTEREST WHEN MY ACTUAL MILEAGE WAS ONLY 2000 OVER THE WARRANTY. THEY KEPT POINTING OUT THAT THE CAR WAS OVER 5 YEARS OLD & ONLY HAD A 3 YEAR WARRANTY. TO ME THAT HAS NO SIGNIFICANCE...THE MILEAGE IS WHAT CONCERNS ME. I HOPE OTHERS WILL TAKE NOTE & BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF CHRYSLER BEFORE THERE ARE RELATED ACCIDENTS OR DEATHS. MESSAGE: I AM WRITING ABOUT MY FIRESTONE FIREHAWK GTA P215/55R1894T TIRES. THEY CAME ON MY THEN NEW 2007 DODGE CALIBER R/T. I NOTED WITH THE DEALER ON 1/2/09 WITH 24800 MILES, THAT EVEN BEFORE THAT THE TIRES ARE MAKING A THUMPING NOICE. IT SEEMS THEY ARE GETTING EVEN LOUDER. THEY HAVE BEEN ROTATED EVERY 5000 MILES BY ME AND THE DEALER AND SEEM TO BE WEARING EVENLY. I AM WORRIED ABOUT WHAT WOULD HAPPEN AT HIGHER SPEEDS? *TR
IN APRIL TOOK CAR IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND CAR MAKING NOISES. REPAIRED SEVERAL WARRANTY ISSUES AND ALSO ROTATED AND BALANCED TIRES. SINCE THEN HAVE HAD A VIBRATION SOUND AND THUMPING 2 DEALERS TELL ME TIRES ARE CHOPPED AND NEED REPLACING FIRST TIME AT AROUND 15, 000 MILES AND NOW AT 18,000. HOW CAN THIS BE. DID HAVE SUSPENSION WARRANTY WORK DONE IN APRIL. BOUGHT CAR IN 7/07 WITH ONLY 65 MILES ON IT. I HAVE READ ON SEVERAL FORUMS THAT OTHER CALIBER OWNERS ARE HAVING THESE SAME ISSUES. I HAVE TWO CHILDREN AND DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THEM IN THE CAR. ALSO, THE NOISE VIBRATION LEVEL IS HORRIBLE AND YOU CANNOT EVEN HEAR ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT NOISE. *TR
WHEN DRIVING IN THE WINTER, SNOW HAS A TENDENCY TO BUILD UP ON THE INSIDE OF ALL THE WHEELS. THE INSIDE DIAMETER SURFACE OF THE WHEEL IS FLAT NOT ALLOWING ANY BUILD UP OF SNOW TO WORK ITS WAY OUT CAUSING THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY TO BECOME EXTREMELY UNBALANCED. CLEARING THE SNOW IS DIFFICULT AT BEST. THE WHEEL SHOULD HAVE BEEN DESIGNED WITH SOME SORT OF TAPER TO ALLOW THE SNOW TO COME OUT OR WHEN MELTING IN THE WARMER PART OF THE DAY TO FALL OUT, NOT BUILD UP ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WHEEL. THIS IS A CONSTANT OCCURRENCE THAT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH EVERY WINTER, MANY TIMES A WEEK. *TR ## VIN FAILED ##
I PURCHASED A 2007 DODGE CALIBER AUGUST 2006. AT APPROXIMATELY 43K MILES JUNE 2008, TWO WARNING LIGHTS TRIGGERED: ESP BASS AND TRACTION CONTROL. UPON CONTACTING THE DEALER, DAVID DODGE, AND DELIVERING MY VEHICLE FOR INSPECTION, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR BRAKING SYSTEM WAS THE PROBLEM AND IT MUST BE REPLACED; OF COURSE, AT MY EXPENSE OF $258. AGAIN, JULY 22, 2008 THESE TWO LIGHTS TRIGGERED. THIS ACTION PROMPTED ME TO PURSUE THE NHTSA WEBSITE IN SEARCH OF RECALL. SURPRISINGLY, THERE WERE TWO RECALLS FOR THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. AMAZINGLY, THE FIRST REFERENCED THE REAR BRAKING SYSTEM. I HAVE RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION FROM DODGE CHRYSLER OR THE DEALER. ALL I KNOW IS THAT I HAD TO PAY OUT OF MY POCKET FOR THE REAR BRAKING SYSTEM THAT WAS FOR THE MOST PART ON THE RECALL LIST. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2007 DODGE CALIBER IN DEC 07. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS I STARTED TO HEAR AND FEEL FRONT END NOISE/VIBRATION. THIS BEGAN UNDER 10,000 MILES. THEY HAVE CUT THE FRONT ROTORS ,REPLACED FRONT STRUT AND SWAY BAR LINKS, ALL OF WHICH DID NOT RESOLVE THE REAL PROBLEM. DEALER SINCE , STATES THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE TIRES (DUNLOP) BECAUSE I DID NOT ROTATE AT THE RIGHT MILEAGE. I NOW HAVE 26,000 MILES AND I WON'T BUY NEW TIRES JUST YET. I HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE NOISE AND VIBRATION BUT CHRYSLER HAS TO LIVE WITH THE BAD REPUTATION THAT ALL THESE COMPLAINTS IS GIVING THEM. I HAVE A 2007 DODGE CALIBER WITH FIRESTONE FIREHALK GTA-03 215/55R18 SIZE STANDARD TIRES, BETWEEN 25,000 TO 26,000 MILES THE TIRES HAVE BECOME CUPPED AND VERY LOAD, I TOOL IT TO A DODGE DEALER AND THEY AGREED THEY ARE CUPPED BUT BLAME THE ROTATION. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THE CAR AND TIRE AND FIND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE TIRES AND FEEL FIRESTONE AND DODGE IS NOT CORRECTING A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES. *TR

MY SON WAS DRIVING ABOUT 15 MPH AND HIT A SMALL HOLE IN THE ROAD AND THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE SIDE WALL BLEW OUT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS YEAR. THE FIRST WAS WITH ME DRIVING THE CAR AND ALL I DID WAS GO OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND COME BACK ON AND THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WASN'T THAT BAD THIS WAS WITH THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. TODAY THERE WAS A VAN IN FRONT AND HAD NO PROBLEM AFTER DRIVING THROUGH THE HOLE. THE TIRES ARE FIRESTONE AFFINITY TOURING T4 P215/60R17 95T M&S. I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY MAY HAVE BEEN REPORTED, BUT THIS HAPPEN TO US AND AFTER TWO TIME AND ON THE FRONT WITH THE ORIGINAL TIRES, THE FIRST TIES HAD ABOUT 2,000 MILES ON IT AND THIS ONE HAS 5,565 ON IT. MY 2007 DODGE CALIPER SE WAS EQUIPPED FACTORY WITH 15 IN STEEL WHEELS. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE I NOTICED A EXTREME VIBRATION FROM 60-70MPH. I RETURNED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAD THE WHEELS BALANCED AND ROTATED SEVERAL TIMES, TEST TO MAKE SURE THE WHEELS WERE NOT OUT OF ROUND, AND FINALLY THE TIRES REPLACED. I HAD THE FACTORY TIRES INSPECTED AT ONE OF THE DUNLOP RETAILERS AND THEY WERE TO BE FINE AND THAT THE ISSUE WAS WITH THE WHEELS. ALL OF THE WHEELS. REPLACING THE TIRES DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE OR MAKE IT ANY BETTER. NONE OF THE REPAIRS DID. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH ON THIS I FOUND THAT THE VIBRATION IS NOT APPARENT IN THE ALUMINUM WHEELS SO I OPTED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THEM PLACED ON MY VEHICLE. THE ISSUE HAS SINCE BEEN RESOLVED WITH THE PURCHASE OF THE NEW WHEELS PLUS TIRES WITH AND EXPENSE OF $600.00+. I DID ATTEMPT TO REPORT THIS ISSUE TO DODGE DIRECTLY BUT HAVE ONLY RECEIVED THE RESPONSE OF "NO RECALL". *TR
