One morning I was taking my 9-year-old daughter to school and our truck just stalled while I was driving. Thank Allah that there was no heavy traffic and no one got hurt. That incident has my daughter scared. I took it to the mechanic they read the diagnostic fixed what codes came up and still my truck is not operating properly. The truck still stalls while driving the mechanic has informed me. I have had my IAC, MAP sensor, TPS, ignition coil, distributor, and canister purge valve replaced.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEUTRAL SWITCH, FUEL GAUGE, AND ALTERNATOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 187,000.
WE JUST GOT ANOTHER CALL ON THIS 2000 DURANGO APPARENTLY THE ISSUES ARE THE SAME FOR EVERY DODGE DURANGO FROM 1999 TO 2007 VEHICLE STALLS AT ANY SPEED AT ANY TIME ANY WHERE WET OR DRY COMMON PROBLEM ON ALL DURANGOS AND NO EASY FIX OR SOLUTIONS NOT EVEN FROM CHRYSLER WE AMERICANS ARE WONDERING WHEN YOU WILL ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR BRAND MODEL AND YEARS OR WILL YOU JUST IGNORE THIS EMAIL UNTIL SOMEONE'S STALLS ON THE 70 -75 MILES PER HOUR FAST LANE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH THERE KIDS OR LOVED ONES AND IS KILLED ?? THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MAT SENSOR, CAM SENSOR, SPARK PLUGS, AND MULTIPLE PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A LOUD HUMMING NOISE IN THE REAR END COMING FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL AT AROUND 30 MPH, AND GETS LOUD WHILE INCREASING SPEED. DEALERSHIP WANTS $1200 JUST TO INSTALL A NEW ONE, PRICE DOES NOT REFLECT THE $2500 REAR DIFFERENTIAL. WIDESPREAD PROBLEM, AND NO ACTION I BEING TAKEN. OBVIOUSLY A FLAW ON THERE END, THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN BEAT AND IN PRISTINE CONDITION. VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. ENGINE SHUT DOWN TO 400 (FOUR HUNDRED) RPMS. PULLED TO SIDE OF HIGHWAY LUCKILY AND ENGINE SHUT OFF. WOULD NOT START. I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK FOR 12 YEARS. SOMETHING STARTED SMOKING AND POSSIBILITY OF FIRE WAS A MAJOR CONCERN. *TR

SINCE PURCHASE OF 2000 (NEW) DODGE DURANGO 5.9L 4 WHEEL DRIVE, THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SERVICED SEVERAL TIMES AT GREAT AMOUNTS OF COST. I RARELY USE 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND TAKE CARE OF EACH REQUIRED SERVICE. ON THE INTERNET I NOTICE SEVERAL SIMILAR/SAME COMPLAINTS. THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT STUCK ON AND THE TRANSMISSION IS STUCK IN 4 WHEEL WITH NO INDICATION OF GOING INTO 2 WHEEL/NEUTRAL OR OTHER WISE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE I REVERSED HEARD A CLUNK. THOUGHT I HIT SOMETHING SAW NOTHING THAT I COULD HAVE HIT. PUT IT INTO DRIVE AND DROVE FOR A FEW MINUTES HAD TO BACK UP AGAIN AND FOUND I HAD NO REVERSE. I WAS ABLE TO GET WHERE I NEEDED BUT FOUND THAT THE FORWARD GEARS WERE NOW NOT COOPERATING. CALLED TRANSMISSION SHOPS AND EVERY ONE OF THEM STATED THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR DODGE TRANSMISSIONS ESPECIALLY THOSE IN THE DURANGO. IT IS A 2000 DODGE DURANGO WITH ABOUT 150000. I BELIEVE IF A TOYOTA OR AN OLDER DODGE CALL LAST MORE THAN 250000 THEN THESE NEWER WAS SHOULD LAST LONGER WITH OUR SUPPOSED BETTER TECHNOLOGY. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH OVER ICE AND SNOW, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SLIPPED AS THE CONTACT DECELERATED. THE VEHICLE LANDED INTO A DITCH AND THEN FLIPPED OVER. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. HE BELIEVES THAT IF THE VEHICLE FLIPPED OVER, THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 78,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION MADE A SUDDEN SHIFT PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT AND WHEN EVALUATED BY THE MECHANIC THE ONLY ERROR CODE ADMITTED WAS THAT OF THE TRANSMISSION. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION AND THE ENGINE RUNNING, A CHILD CLIMBED INTO THE DRIVER'S SEAT, AND MOVED THE COLUMN GEAR SHIFT ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL BACKWARDS AND CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, BUT THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGE. THE POLICE WERE ON THE SCENE, AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER TO AWAIT FURTHER INSPECTION BY A FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE.

CHRYSLER HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION ON THE DURANGO AND DAKOTA WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER OVERHEATING CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO NOT SHIFT PROPERLY OR AT ALL. A SIMPLE FIX WOULD BE FOR CHRYSLER TO INSTALL AN ADEQUATE OIL COOLER. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH DODGE VEHICLES AND THE COMPANY IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. NOW MY VEHICLE AT 94,000 WITH ALL SERVICES DONE PROPERLY AND ON TIME ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTORER IS COSTING ME $1500.00 TO FIX. WHEN I ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER WHY CHRYSLER HAS NOT HAD A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM HIS RESPONSE WAS BECAUSE IT WOULD COST $1100 PER VEHICLE TO FIX. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO LET OTHER CONSUMERS KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH OVERHEATING I COULD HAVE HAD ANOTHER COOLING SYSTEM INSTALL FOR LESS THAN $100.
4 WHEEL DRIVE TRANSFER CASE FAILS TO SHIFT FROM 4 WHEEL HI TO 2 WHEEL DRIVE. TRANSMISSION REMAINS LOCKED IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO 4 WHEEL HI WITHOUT INCIDENT AT A SPEED OF 10MPH. VEHICLE WILL NOT SHIFT BACK INTO 2 WHEEL DRIVE WITH THE VEHICLE IN PARK, NEUTRAL, DRIVE, OR TURNED OFF. THIS IS BOTH A SAFETY BULLETIN AND A RECALL ISSUE. UPON CONTACTING DAIMLER CHRYSLER, THEY STATED THE VIN DOES NOT FALL WITHIN THE RECALL AND REFUSED ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE.*AK
THE YOKE ON THE FRONT OF THE DRIVESHAFT BROKE CAUSING THE DRIVESHAFT TO FALL OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS JUST STARTING OFF FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT WHEN THIS OCCURRED. *AK
DT: THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING THE CONSUMER COULD FEEL THE VEHICLE PULSATE. THE VEHICLE WOULD ACT AS IF IT WAS KICKING IN AND OUT OF GEAR. THE PROBLEM IS WITH A BAND THAT IS BREAKING OFF BECAUSE THE LINING HAS DETACHED. THE PROBLEM STARTED IN JANUARY 2005.
