WHEN I FILL UP THE GAS TANK GAS WILL SPEW OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE RIGHT AS THE FUEL SHUTS OFF. THIS HAPPENS MORE IN WARMER WEATHER BUT CAN HAPPEN ANY TIME. WILL DO IT MOST TIMES UNLESS SHUTTING THE FUEL PUMP OFF BEFORE THE TANK IS FUEL. THE GAS WILL SHOT OUT, POSSIBLE UP TO 1/8 OF A GALLON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REFUEL THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL BEGAN TO SPILL BACK OUT FROM THE FILLER NECK. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND THAT HE WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,138 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
I HAVE 06 DODGE DURANGO,WIPER COME ONE AND OFF ,HEAD LIGHTS BLINK ON AND OFF, THERE WAS A RECALL IN A PART IN DASH SO I TOOK IT TO DEALER TO REPAIR AND TO ALSO FIX LIGHT AND WIPERS AND THEY SAID MAYBE RECALL PART FIXED EVERYTHING,WELL IT DIDN'T SO I BROUGHT IT BACK AND THEY CANT FIND PROBLEM,NOW LIGHTS STILL BLINK WIPERS STILL COME ON AND OFF AND HEATER AND AIR DOESN'T BLOW NOW THEY SAID IM NOT UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE PART THAT IT NEEDS ,SO THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME 430.00 FOR A 10.00 PART SO I BOUGHT IT MYSELF AND PUT IT ON AND IT STILL DOESN'T WORK .I HAVE EX. WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD IF THE LIGHTS GOT WORSE TO BRING IT BACK IN WELL I DID AND THEY SAID THEY CANT HELP ME,WELL I FILL LIKE IM JUST GETTING A RUN AROUND AND MY DURANGO IS A RECALL ITSELF. *TR
WHEN FILLING MY 2006 DODGE DURANGO WITH FUEL, THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF MECHANISM DOESN'T WORK AND FUEL SPLASHES OUT OR SPITS OUT OF THE GAS TANK. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES. NOW I NEVER FILL THE TANK COMPLETELY. *TR
GAS NO LONGER AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF. GAS SPILLS OUT EVERYTIME I REFUEL. I HAVE TO GUESS WHEN I SHOULD STOP THE FUELING BUT SOMETIMES I MISCALCULATED AND IT ALL OVER MY SHOES AND THE GROUND. FIRE HAZARD IN THE WAIT. *TR
AT THE END OF REFUELING THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE A BURST OF GASOLINE THAT SPRAYS OUT OF THE FUEL NECK AND SOAKS THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS THE GROUND AND THE PERSON REFUELING IF THEY ARE STANDING NEXT TO THE VEHICLE. SAME AS RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR THE YEAR PRIOR (05V034000). *TR
FUEL SPRAYED OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE AFTER FILLING THE TANK TO FULL AND NOZZLE CLICKED OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. I NO LONGER FILL UP ALL THE WAY TO PREVENT ANY MORE OVERFLOWS AND POTENTIAL FIRES. PROBLEM IS SAME AS 2005 RECALL BUT DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR WITHOUT A RECALL FOR 2006 DURANGO. *TR
WHILE PUMPING GAS INTO MY 2006 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED, THE FUEL HOSE SHUT OFF SENSING THAT THE TANK WAS ALMOST FULL HOWEVER THE FUEL CAME SPEWING OUT OF THE TANK FROM THE VEHICLE. APPROXIMATELY 1/4 OF A GALLON OF FUEL SPILLED OUT ONTO ME, THE VEHICLE, TAIL PIPE AND THE GROUND. THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW FIVE TIMES IN A ROW. THIS COULD BE A FIRE HAZARD, AND DEFINITELY A CHEMICAL BURN ON MY HANDS AND UNCOVERED FEET. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE 2005 MODEL YEAR, BUT THE DEALER SAID MINE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THAT RECALL. *TR
TURN SIGNAL SWITCH MALFUNCTIONS WHEN IT IS COLD AND WET OUT. WILL INDICATE RIGHT TURN WHEN TURNING LEFT AND VISE VERSA, HIGH BEAM ALSO MALFUNCTIONS AND WILL SOMETIMES TURN ON WASHER FLUID, WIPER FUNCTION ALSO NOT WORKING RIGHT WHEN OTHERS FAIL. SEEMS TO BE WHEN IT IS WET AND BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES. SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ALL OVER INTERNET. *TR
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL FILLING IN 2006 DODGE DURANGO'S. WHEN FILLING, FUEL BACKWASHES OUT OF THE FUEL OPENING AFTER THE PUMP STOPS FUELING. THIS OVERSPILL OCCURS EVERY TIME, AND ALSO TIMES WHEN I TRY TO STOP FUELING BEFORE THE TANK IS FULL. IT IS DANGEROUS, AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. IT STARTED A FEW MONTHS AGO. I DON'T FILL THE DURANGO VERY OFTEN (I DON'T DRIVE IT MUCH), BUT STARTED TO OCCUR LAST YEAR. *TR
DURING REFUELING THE PUMP HANDLE WILL CLICK OFF THEN A SECOND LATER A RUSH OF GASOLINE WILL SPEW OUT OF THE FILL INLET. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED TO FULL. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 DODGE DURANGO AND WHEN YOU FILL THE FUEL TANK, FUEL GUSHES OUT OF THE PIPE WHEN THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME. IT IS THE SAME THING THAT THE 2005 DURANGOS WERE RECALLED FOR. I'D LIKE MINE RECALLED. 2005 RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V003000 AND 09V003000. THE FUEL TANK FILLER TUBE INLET CHECK VALVE MAY NOT FULLY CLOSE AT THE END OF REFUELING. THIS COULD ALLOW SOME FUEL TO ESCAPE FROM THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE FILLER NECK AT THE END OF REFUELING. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 DODGE DURANGO WITH APPROXIMATELY 51,000 MILES. WHEN I FILL THE FUEL TANK, GASOLINE GUSHES OUT OF THE FUEL OPENING WITHIN A SECOND OR TWO AFTER THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I REFUEL STARTING A FEW MONTHS AGO. IT IS THE SAME THING THAT THE 2005 DURANGOS WERE RECALLED FOR. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR WHICH DODGE SHOULD BE HELP ACCOUNTABLE. THE 2005 RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V003000 AND 09V003000 IS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE THAT DODGE AND NHTSA IS OBVIOUSLY AWARE OF. PLEASE MOVE TO FORCE A SOLUTION FROM CHRYSLER BEFORE TRAGEDY STRIKES! 2005 DURANGOS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND IT OBVIOUSLY CONTINUED IN THE 2006 MODELS. THANKS. MY 2006 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE FUEL TANK OVER A YEAR AGO. EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE TANK, AFTER THE NOZZLE AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF, GAS SPEWS BACK OUT OF THE CAR ONTO ME AND THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. AND THE SERB. I CALLED CHRYSLER ABOUT THE ISSUE BUT THEY (CHRYSLER) SAID THEY WERE CHOOSING NOT TO ASSIST IN REPLACING THE FUEL TANK, AND AT THIS TIME HAS NOT RECALLED FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *KB
I HAVE A 2006 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED WHICH UPON FILLING WITH GASOLINE WILL OVERFLOW INSTEAD OF CUTTING OFF WHEN FULL. THE FUEL WILL SHOOT OUT OF THE OPENING ON THE VEHICLE CAUSING A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING NOW FOR AWHILE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE FUELING THE VEHICLE, APPROXIMATELY A QUART OF FUEL SPILLED OUT. THE FAILURE HAD BEEN ON-GOING SINCE DECEMBER 2010. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE FAILURE AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE FUEL FILLER TUBE AND FILTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 05V034000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY:FILLER PIPE AND CAP AND STATED HE WAS HAVING THE SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED TO FILE A SAFETY COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,914.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 DURANGO SLT, DRIVING THROUGH A PUDDLE CAUSES THE POWER STEERING TO QUIT AND THE LIGHTS ALSO DIM LIKE THE TRUCK IS LOSING POWER. THE SERPENTINE BELT ON THE TRUCK IS ALSO SQUEALING WHICH I BELIEVED TO BE THE ISSUE. I CHANGED THE BELT ON THE TRUCK BUT POWER STEERING STILL FAILS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE THROUGH A PUDDLE OF WATER. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS IN A TURN AND JUST ABOUT LOST CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. *TR
HEADLIGHTS WILL RANDOMLY TURN OFF AND ON OR JUST COMPLETELY OFF. SIMPLY PUSHING ON THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH CAN REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. THE FIX IS TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH. I DISASSEMBLED THE OLD SWITCH, AND THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE SURFACE MOUNT COMPONENT OF THE SWITCH CAME LOOSE ON ONE CORNER AND ALLOWED INTERMITTENT CONTACT WITH THE CIRCUIT. EPOXY WOULD PROBABLY HAVE FIXED IT, BUT FOR $40, I JUST REPLACED THE PART MYSELF. AN INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES AS WELL LIKELY USING THE SAME PART. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, GASOLINE FUEL WOULD SPEW BACK OUT FROM THE FILLER TUBE SPILLING ONTO THE CONTACT AND THE GROUND. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
WHEN FILLING THE TANK WITH GAS, AT END OF FILL UP GAS WILL SPEWL OUT ONTO CAR, GROUND, AND MYSELF!! TOOK TO DEALER WAS TOLD CHECK VALVE SEAL HAD DETERIORATED, WOULD NEED TO REPLACE FUEL TANK. REPAIR PLUS LABOR WOULD BE AT LEAST $800. CONTACTED DODGE CHRYSLER BY EMAIL, WAS CALLED THAT DAY. EXCELLENT PR BUT WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL AT THIS TIME FOR THIS PROBLEM,. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT ENOUGH TO DO A RECALL. TOLD IF I PAY THE FIRST $200 THEY WOULD COVER THE REST, IF A RECALL HAPPENS I WOULD BE REIMBURSED THIS COST. I DO NOT FEEL THAT ANYONE OWNING THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THIS DEFECTIVE REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE ON CAR. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECTIVE NOT CAUSED BY OWNERSHIP. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, DOES SOMETHING SERIOUS HAVE TO HAPPENED TO SOMEONE AND THEIR CAR BEFORE THIS IS TAKEN CARE OF? *TR
06 DODGE DURANGO FUEL TANK NOT CENSORING AND SPILLING OUT GASOLINE WHEN A FULL TANK IS REACHED. THE FIRST TIME IT DONE IT, I WAS OUT SEEING PATIENTS AND THE GASOLINE SPILLED OUT ON MY JEANS. I HAD TO STOP AT A WALMART THAT WAS LUCKILY NEARBY AND PURCHASE A PAIR OF JEANS, SO I COULD CONTINUE WORKING. SINCE THEN I HAVE TO WATCH MY FUEL GAUGE AND WHEN IT RISES ABOVE THE 3/4 LINE I STOP THE PUMP AND EASE THE GAS IN A LITTLE AT A TIME. I LOOK AT THE FUEL GAUGE AND IT HAS A DELAY AS TO WHEN IT REGISTERS THE GASOLINE THAT HAS BEEN PUMPED. THIS IS VERY AGGRAVATING, THE ESTIMATE TO GET IT REPLACED IS ANYWHERE FROM $850 TO $1300. WITH AS MANY COMPLAINTS I SEE POSTED, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUED. ALSO, THE COMPUTER THAT CONTROLS THE IDLE SPEED MOTOR SEEMS TO BE MALFUNCTIONING WHICH CAUSES MY 06 DODGE DURANGO TO STOP RUNNING WHILE IN A LOW IDLE AT STOP SIGNS AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO TURN. THIS IS ESTIMATED TO COST $700 TO $800 DEPENDING ON WHICH COMPUTER IS BAD. THIS IS OF MOST PRIORITY SINCE I DRIVE TO OTHER LOCATIONS FOR MY WORK. *LN

EVERYTIME I FILL UP MY 2006 DODGE DURANGO WITH GAS TO THE FULL LIMIT, GAS SPEWS BACK OUT OF THE TANK NECK ONTO THE EXTERIOR OF THE CAR AND ONTO THE GROUND. THE FIRST TIME IT DID THIS AFTER I BOUGHT IT USED FROM THE DODGE DEALERSHIP, I GOT COVERED IN GAS BECAUSE THIS HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 05 MODELS FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, YET DODGE WILL NOT ADMIT THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE 06 MODELS. DEALERSHIP SERVICE SAID THAT THE NEW TANK WILL COST OVER $600 OUT OF MY POCKET TO FIX. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, AS THERE IS NO FLAP TO CLOSE THE HOLE WHERE YOU STICK THE GAS NOZZLE IN, SO IF THAT IS LEFT OPEN, WOULDN'T GAS POUR OUT IN THE CAR WERE TO BE OVERTURNED? *TR
DURING NORMAL FUEL FILL-UP PROCEDURES, WHENEVER THE FUEL NOZZLE STOPS PUMPING FUEL INTO THE GAS TANK, A LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL IS EJECTED FROM THE GAS FILL-UP DOOR. THIS GASOLINE IS SPRAYED OVER ANYONE AND ANYTHING WITHIN APPROXIMATELY THREE FEET OF THE VEHICLE IN DIRECT LINE WITH THE FUEL DOOR, AS WELL AS SPILLING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE ITSELF AND ONTO THE GROUND. SEVERAL OTHER 2004-2006 DODGE DURANGO OWNERS I KNOW HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE, WITH NO HELP TO REPAIR OR REIMBURSE FOR REPAIR FROM CHRYSLER'S CORPORATE OFFICE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 111,000.

2006 DODGE DURANGO SPRAYS FUEL AT COMPLETION OF FUEL FILL. THE FUEL SPILL COULD RESULT IN A FIRE, INJURY UP TO INCLUDING DEATH. THE FUEL FILL SPILL HAS OCCURRED AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND THE ISSUE BEGAN AFTER 80,000 MILES. *TR
GAS STATION FUEL PUMPS DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF WHEN REFUELING VEHICLE RESULTING IN FUEL GUSHING OUT THE FILLER PIPE AND SPILLING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS OCCURS REGARDLESS OF THE GAS STATION USED AND THEREFORE APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2006 DODGE DURANGO SLT. ON EVERY GASOLINE FILL UP, THE GAS PUMP DOES NOT GET TRIGGERED TO SHUT OFF AND GASOLINE VIOLENTLY WITH FORCE SPRAYS A SIGNIFICANT QUANTITY OF GASOLINE DIRECTLY OUT OF THE FUEL NOZZLE, DOWN THE VEHICLE, AND ONTO ANYTHING WITHIN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE NOZZLE, THEN DOWN TO THE GROUND, PUMP HOSE. IF STANDING HOLDING THE NOZZLE, I HAVE BEEN SPRAYED WITH GASOLINE. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT EVERY FILL UP, REGARDLESS OF GAS STATION I'VE TRIED. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AND I SEE VIA MULTIPLE SITES IS NOT LIMITED TO JUST MY DURANGO. *TR
MY 2006 DURANGO HAS 70,000 MILES ON IT. IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS, MY WIFE REPORTED TO ME ON THREE OCCASIONS THAT WHEN SHE FILLS UP THE GAS TANK, THE GAS COMES SPEWING OUT ALL OVER THE GROUND, CAR, GAS PUMP AND ANYTHING ELSE WITHIN A FEW FEET OF THE NOZZLE. I WITNESSED IT FOR MYSELF YESTERDAY. UNBELIEVABLY DANGEROUS! I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THE 2005 MODEL OF THE SAME VEHICLE HAS HAD A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. I FOUND MANY PEOPLE DESCRIBING THE SAME PROBLEM ON 2006 DURANGOS. THIS SAFETY ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT (OR WORSE). WHY HASN'T THE NHTSA DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS? I'VE HEARD ESTIMATES OF $600-$900 FOR ME TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. DODGE SHOULD PAY FOR THIS WIDE-SPREAD SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THOSE THAT HAD IT DIAGNOSED AT A DODGE DEALER SAY THAT THE GAS TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH SOLVED THE PROBLEM BUT COSTS $600.00 OR MORE. FUEL SPRAYED OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE AFTER FILLING THE TANK TO FULL AND NOZZLE CLICKED OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I NO LONGER FILL UP ALL THE WAY TO PREVENT ANY MORE OVERFLOWS AND POTENTIAL FIRES. PROBLEM IS SAME AS 2005 RECALL BUT DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR WITHOUT A RECALL FOR 2006 DURANGO. *TR

WHEN FUELING MY VEHICLE AND THE PUMP CLICKS OFF, FUEL JUST SPEWS FROM THE TANK ALL OVER THE GROUND [ABOUT A CUP OF GAS EACH TIME] WHICH UPSETS ME DUE TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL FACTOR AND SAFETY ISSUES. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME OVER THE PAST YEAR, EVEN AT THE LOWEST REFUEL SPEED. I NOTICED MANY COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER 2006 DURANGO OWNERS AND THAT 2005 MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS ADDING GASOLINE TO THE VEHICLE IT BEGAN TO SPILL OUT OF THE FUEL TANK. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE FULL TANK WAS FULL. WE OWN A 2006 DODGE DURANGO, HEMI 8 -CYL ENGINE. WE ARE THE FIRST AND ONLY OWNERS OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN FUELING THE GAS TANK, SIGNIFICANT QUANTITIES OF FUEL SHOOT OUT AFTER THE PUMP HAS STOPPED. THE PERSON FUELING THE VEHICLE GETS COVERED IN FUEL. FUEL IS SPILT ON GROUND AND ON SIDE OF VEHICLE. IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE WHERE YOU REFUEL, SO IT IS NOT STATION SPECIFIC. THE CABIN TO THE DURANGO FILLS WITH FUEL VAPORS AND THE SITUATION POSES SIGNIFICANT RISK OF FIRE. THERE ARE ALSO SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CONSTANT SPILLING OF THE GAS. IT SEEMS THAT THERE ARE OTHER RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE WITH THE 2005 DURANGOS, BUT NOT OUR 2006. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE ADDING FUEL TO THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF FUEL SPRAYED BACK ON HER, THE GROUND AND THE VEHICLE. SHE ALSO STATED THAT OCCASIONALLY A FEW DAYS LATER THE SMELL OF FUEL WAS IN THE VEHICLE. SHE REFERENCED RECALL 05V034000, FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:FILLER PIPE AND CAP AND STATED THAT SHE DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE THE 2006 VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED HER THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK NEEDED REPLACING. SHE STATED THAT THE PRE-OWNED VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON OCTOBER 15, 2010 AND SHE NOTICED THE FAILURE, THE FOLLOWING DAY. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,300.
WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK, A LARGE QUANTITY OF FUEL SPRAYS THE REFUELER AFTER TANK IS FULL AND PUMP HAS ALREADY SHUT OFF. IT APPEARS AS THOUGH A HIGH BACK PRESSURE BUILDS INSIDE THE TANK AND MAY BE CONTRIBUTING TO THIS PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENS REGARDLESS OF FILLING STATION AND HAS CONTRIBUTED TO CLOTHING AND BODILY CONTACT WITH GASOLINE. *TR
THE FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE HAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. THIS RESULTS IN A SAFETY HAZARD WHEREBY UPON FILLING THE GAS TANK, GAS SPRAYS BACK OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE ON TO THE PERSON FILLING THE GAS. IF THIS OCCURS IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, A SIGNIFICANT FIRE/EXPLOSION COULD OCCUR. THE SAME ISSUE RESULTED IN A RECALL ON 2005 DODGE DURANGO VEHICLES (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NO. 09V-003 (H45). IN REFERENCE TO THE RECALL AND ASSOCIATED DOCUMENTS, CHRYSLER'S RECALL FOR THE FUEL TANK ISSUE WAS ESTIMATED BY CHRYSLER TO IMPACT LESS THAN 20% OF VEHICLES INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT IN REALITY, IN EXCESS OF 50% OF VEHICLES INSPECTED REQUIRED REPAIR (PER THE 9/30/10 CHRYSLER RECALL QUARTERLY REPORT).
