Was going to pick a friend up from the airport, stopped at the gas station because the van suddenly started handling funny, and noticed 4 wheel studs were sheared off. Had to tow the vehicle to the shop.
We've had two separate incidents a few months apart where a tire suddenly feel off the vehicle. In both instances, the studs had been sheared off. Then, last week, a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country lost a wheel that hit my house. I checked the vehicle, and the studs were sheared off that one as well. Google turns up a studs recall for the 2012-2021, but that recall doesn't go far enough back.
At approximately 70 MPH on the highway, a loud thumping noise was heard near the passenger rear area. Vehicle was rocking back and forth and became very unstable to drive safely. Tire pressure was checked and confirmed to be at 38 PSI. However, upon observation, the tire was shaped into a oval with a marked bulge in the tread on one side of the tire. 225/65 R16 SL
I took my vehicle in for a alignment today at Mavis Tire and was told as follows. The real axel is at .35 and it is supposed to be at .05. The mechanic said this is the reason that my tires keep wearing out on the back end of my vehicle. He also stated that he tried to fix the problem but was unable to. He stated that he was unsure why it is like that because it is not supposed to be.
THANKS TO BAD ENGINEERING...I HAD A TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR BREAK APART FROM MY WHEEL AND CAUSED A BRAND NEW TIRE TO BLOW ON THE HIGHWAY. THE THREADS ON THE PRESSURE SENSOR ARE MADE OF ALUMINUM AND THE WHEEL IS A STEEL ONE. SO, IN ESSENCE, A PART MADE FOR MY SAFETY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. YIKES!!! THIS IS NOT RIGHT.
I HAD A TIRE BLOW ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE TPMS CAME LOOSE BECAUSE OF CORROSION.
VAN WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, STARTED WASHING THE BACK DRIVERS SIDE TIRE RIM ON THE VAN AND THE VALVE STEM POPPED OFF AND THE TIRE COMPLETELY DEFLATED FROM JUST BARELY TOUCHING IT WITH A RAG!! SECOND TIRE THAT HAS DONE THIS. TWO WEEKS AGO ANOTHER TIRE WAS LOW ON AIR, STOPPED AT A GAS STATION TO FILL IT UP WITH AIR AND THE VALVE STEM BROKE OFF AS SOON AS HE TRIED TO FILL IT AND COMPLETELY DEFLATED. WE HAD TO PUT A RUBBER VALVE STEM INTO THAT TIRE. THIS IS OUR FAMILY VEHICLE WITH A 9, 6, AND 5 YEAR OLD RIDING IN THIS CAR. IF THE VALVE STEM BROKE THAT EASILY IT COULD'VE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND WE COULD'VE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE MY CHILDREN COULD'VE GOTTEN HURT!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE CARAVAN. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE DROVE ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER SAFELY. WHEN THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE, SHE OBSERVED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR, WHICH WAS CONNECTED TO THE STEM FRACTURED, AND CAUSED A FAST FLAT. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,400. *LN CONSUMER STATED 2 TIRES HAVE LOST THE COLLARS AROUND THE VALVE STEM DUE TO CORROSION. ONE TIRE HAS COLLAR ON VALVE STEM (IT IS CRACKED) UPDATED*JB *TR
DRIVING ON NY STATE THRUWAY AT 1 AM FRIDAY NIGHT AND TIRE SENSOR LIGHT WENT ON BUT NO INDICATION ANYTHING OTHER THAN LOW TIRE PRESSURE. SOON AFTER THE CAR MAKES NOISE WE PULL OVER TO SAFE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SEE THE TIRE IS FLAT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT AND NO CRASH. BROUGHT CAR TO MONRO AS BEFORE WHEN THIS HAPPENED BEFORE. CAN CHECK WITH THEM WHEN. SO THE TENSOR BROKE OFF AS BEFORE AND WENT INTO THE TIRE. SHREDDED THE TIRE ON THE INSIDE AS BEFORE. I HAVE TO GET A NEW TIRE AGAIN AND NEW SENSOR. WILL COST ME A LOT OF MONEY FOR INFERIOR DESIGN AND MATERIALS FOR THE SENSOR. NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND STRONGER MATERIAL SHOULD BE USED. ALSO A NEW DESIGN FEATURE LIKE SUBARU TO HAVE A FLASHING LIGHT IF THERE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE OTHER THAN JUST LOW TIRE PRESSURE. THE DODGE JUST HAS A STAY ON LIGHT WARNING. SO HAVE TO PAY FOR NEW SENSOR NEW TIRE AND HAD TO PAY FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. CALLED DODGE AND FOUND OUT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY REPORTS OF THIS ALREADY. THE WOMAN KIM, WILL REPORT THIS TO DODGE.
2010 DODGE CARAVAN. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE TIRE DEFLATED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING. *SMD THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY PUNCTURES, GASHES OR OTHER REASONS WHY THE TIRE WOULD HAVE DEFLATED SUDDENLY. HE CONCLUDED THAT THE NUT ON THE VALVE STEM HAD CORRODED, CRACKED OFF AND THE SEAL BETWEEN THE STEM AND THE TIRE BECAME UN-SEATED CAUSING THE MASSIVE LOSS IN AIR PRESSURE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, IT APPEARED THAT THE OTHER TIRES HAD CRACKED OR WERE MISSING NUTS ON THEIR VALVE STEMS AND WERE IN DANGED OF THE SAME CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. *JB
THE TIRE VALVE STEM CRACKED,CAUSING THE TIRE TO DEFLATE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WITHIN A YEAR, DIFFERENT WHEEL THE FIRST INCIDENT. I AM GOING TO REPLACE ALL STEMS. BOTH TIRE STEMS WERE FOUND CRACKED AND LEAKING AIR WHILE PARKED. MANY ON LINE COMPLAINTS. NO RECALL BY DODGE YET, THIS IS A REAL DANGER TO THE PUBLIC. IF THE STEMS SHOULD FAIL AT HIGH SPEEDS COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENT. *TR
A LOW TIRE INDICATOR APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. PROCEEDED TO CHECK TIRE PRESSURE. WHILE UNSCREWING VALVE CAP FROM THE TIRE VALVE STEM THE VALVE STEM BROKE LEAVING ALL AIR OUT OF THE TIRE. NEVER HAVE EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. I TOOK THE TIRE OFF THE VEHICLE AND WENT TO THE LOCAL TIRE STORE. THE SERVICE PERSON TOLD ME THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER VALVE STEMS THAT HAVE THE AIR PRESSURE SENSORS. HE SAID MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS AND THAT I WAS FORTUNATE THAT IT HAPPENED AT HOME IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT IN THE CAR WASH OR ON THE ROAD WHERE ANY SEVERE IMPACT COULD BREAK THE STEM AND CAUSE A RAPID LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE. I CALLED THE DODGE DEALER WONDERING IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THESE VALVE STEMS. THERE HASN'T BEEN. THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AND IS IN MY OPINION A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED EITHER THROUGH CANCELLATION OF THIS MANDATE ON TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS OR ENSURING THAT THESE VALVE STEMS WILL NOT DETERIORATE TO THE POINT THAT PERSONS DRIVING THESE VEHICLES ARE PUT IN DANGER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ONE DAY, OUT OF THE BLUE MY CAN WOULD NOT GO OVER 25 TO 30 MPH. IT WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY IF WE WENT FASTER. WE GOT IT TO THE MECHANIC AND THE BRAKES HAD ALMOST CAUGHT ON FIRE. IT RUINED ONE TIRE AND THE BRAKES AND CALIPERS. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. IT WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I REPORTED IT TO DODGE. THEY SAID IT HAD NEVER HAPPENED. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IT DOES GET REPORTED. I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR THIS. THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SINCE IT NEVER ACTUALLY CAUGHT ON FIRE. REALLY? *TR
CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR BRAKE WORK. MECHANIC INFORMED ME OF CRACKS, SPLITTING AND CORROSION OF THE COLLAR THAT HOLDS THE VALVE STEM AND SENSOR IN PLACE ON BOTH REAR WHEELS. BOTH VALVE ASSEMBLIES WERE REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO I HAD THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL VALE ASSEMBLY FAIL WHILE I WAS ON THE ROAD. THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND WITHIN SECONDS THE TIRE WAS FLAT. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT THE COLLAR HAD FAILED ! THE VALVE ASSEMBLIES APPEAR TO BE MADE OF ALUMINUM AND ARE PRONE TO CORROSION. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ! THE REPLACEMENT ASSEMBLIES APPEAR TO BE MADE OF THE SAME MATERIALS. THIS MEANS THEY ARE PRONE TO FAILURE AS WELL. VERY UNSAFE! *TR
I HAVE THREE TOMS SENSORS NUTS CORRODE AND FALL OFF MY VEHICLE. I HAVE PAID OUT HUNDREDS AND HAVE BEEN LUCKY TO NOT BE GOING DOWN A HIGHWAY WHEN IT HAPPENS. CAN'T BELIEVE SOMETHING HAS NOT BEEN DONE THRU DODGE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR
DRIVING ON LOCAL ROAD, IN CHICAGO WHEN I DISCOVER A TIRE IS FLAT. I NOTICE THAT THE VALVE IS BADLY CORRODED AND THAT THE NUT THAT SHOULD BE HOLDING IT IN PLACE IS MISSING. WHILE CHANGING THE TIRE THE VALVE STEM (TPMS UNIT) FALLS INTO TIRE. THE SUDDEN FLAT WAS CAUSED BY CORROSION OF THE TPMS UNIT WHICH CAUSED IT TO BE LOOSE AND TIRE PRESSURE TO DROP. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, EXISTING FOR MANY YEARS, THAT BOTH DODGE AND ITS ASSISTANT, THE NHTSA, ARE IGNORING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON I-90 TPMS INDICATOR CAME ON. WITHIN SECONDS RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS FLAT, WHEN I LOOKED AT THE WHEEL I SAW THE VALVE STEM WAS GONE. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO TIRE. *TR
VALVE STEM LOCK NUT CORROSION CAUSED STEM TO FALL INSIDE TIRE. CAUSED INSTANT FLAT AT 65 MPH. ALMOST LOST CONTROL. AGAIN TODAY ANOTHER STEM FELL INSIDE TIRE. GOING SLOWER 35 MPH. BOTH TIMES IT ALSO DESTROYED TIRES.
THE STEM FOR THE TPMS HAD CORRODED THROUGH CAUSING FLAT TIRE. WARNING SIGNALED LOW TIRE PRESSURE WENT TO REMOVE THE PLASTIC CAP AND THE STEM HAD BROKEN IN HALF AND WAS ONLY HELD TOGETHER WITH 1 THREAD OF PLASTIC CAP. *TR
