There are 26 owner-reported brakes complaints for the 2022 Ford Broncoin NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
Vehicle brake pedal is very hard to press, unable to push in until the car engine is running. When driving the brake pedal seems it has more pressure and cannot push it to normal level. On the highway it came up brake safety warning when I was in 4Wheel Auto. The pedal stiffness has been checked and confirmed by AutoNation Service. They stated no Warranty or Recall Notice for this issue. The issue is commonly reported by broncos with 2.3L and is determined to be the Brake Booster Vacuum Line. Statements share similar brake pedal stiffness when engine stopped, and engaged stiffness when in 4 wheel mode or Cruise Control, causing driver to put immense pressure on pedal to have the car brake. Before I pay for the parts and long service this clear safety concern should be looked at.
When braking(going down hill) the Bronco comes to a complete stop and the brakes feel good. But a split second after the full stop, the truck starts to creep forward for about a foot and then you hear a "click noise" and the truck abruptly stops. This is a very scary feeling wondering if your gonna roll into cross traffic. This happens every morning(once every day) and the rest of the day the brakes feel good. This issue has been happening for the last 7 days. I made an appointment with Ford dealer to look at it. Service writer tried looking up any recalls or complaints on this issue and couldn't find anything? On the BroncoG6 forum online, there apparently are other Bronco owners complaining about the same issue. One owner (online) stated that the dealer reprogrammed the ABS system and his truck hasn't repeated the creep anymore. There haven't been any brake, ABS or any warning lamps at all when this happens. This really needs to be resolved before someone get injured.
I am writing to formally report a safety-related malfunction involving the parking brake system in my vehicle. The issue poses a significant safety hazard while driving and warrants investigation for potential design or manufacturing defects. During normal operation, the parking brake actuator malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to pull to one side and creating an unsafe driving condition. When I took the car to an authorized dealership, I was informed that the issue was due to a faulty parking brake switch. The switch was replaced; however, the malfunction persisted. Further inspection revealed that the parking brake motor and actuator needed replacement. Even after these repairs, while driving, the dashboard repeatedly displayed warnings such as: •“Parking brake engaged,” •“Please release parking brake,” and •“Parking brake system overheated.” When attempting to release the brake, the system would only disengage after manually pressing the release button, rather than automatically disengaging when the vehicle began to move — as it should. This malfunction not only causes confusion but also increases the risk of loss of vehicle control or brake system failure during operation. Given the repeated failures and persistent warnings, I believe this issue represents a potential safety defect that should be reviewed by your agency to determine if other vehicles are affected. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and to ensuring this issue is properly addressed to prevent future incidents.
When my brakes are cold and I stop on a hill...the brakes do not hold and the car moves about a foot forward. Then something kicks in and it jerks the car to a stop (all the while my foot is completely pressed down on the brake. No warning lamps, no lights, nothing...just rolls when brake is completely applied. It only does this when the brakes are cold. After they warm up it doesn't do it anymore. The dealer has looked at it and couldn't replicate (because the brakes weren't cold) and told me to bring it back if it happens again. It happens every morning but by the time the dealer gets it it doesn't do it anymore. A PLETHORA of bronco owners are experiencing this same thing. Our thread on [XXX] is full of people experiencing the same thing. Some guy in Canada said he had every brake part replaced and it still happened. Then they did some sort of software update and he hasn't experienced it since. Why is this update not available to all? This is a serious hazard! Someone is going to get hurt! After owning the car for 3 years and two weeks my Check Brake System light went on. I took my car to the dealer and was told that I needed a new brake vacuum line. They replaced it with a different part than what was originally installed, leading me to believe that there is something wrong with the original part. And there is no recall for the original part. And because I was out of the warranty period, I had to pay for the $230 part plus $525 of labor. Total bill was $875 for a car just out of warranty.
AT 2.5 YEARS OLD AND 46K MILES THE VACCUM BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY HAS GONE OUT. THIS WAS ON ISSUE WITH THE BRONCO SPORT AND RECALLED, BUT NOT YET ON THE FULL SIZE BRONCO. Break pedal feels very mushy and no breaking effect , very dangerous on highway speed for my car and cars behind me. I went to different dealers for a fix ,they all says it is normal, but it is sure not normal, I had multiple close calls. Break feel is inconsistent everyday. When I apply the break lots of deadline and no breaking effect for first few inches also pedal sinking to floor, ford and dealership are ignoring this serious safety concern. kindly do the needful, thank you
While on interstate 485 Charlotte NC, traveling with adaptive cruise control on at 73mph the brake light came in with a message to check brake system. I proceeded to apply the brake but was hard and unable to slow down. On my second attempt it worked then became normal. The bronco is at the dealer now for repair. And they found a faulty vacuum hose. Waiting for new hose to arrive at dealer
Nearly every time I operate my vehicle I get a brake warning pop up on my instrument cluster. It definately happens every time cruise control is activated
Upon driving the vehicle in the intended fashion for a Ford Bronco Raptor, the vehicle has an issue where when Advanced Track is set as disabled, and the vehicle is shifted in and out of park, the vehicle will then turn Advanced Track back on while still showing it as off on the dashboard. This makes it so when you're driving it in off-road situations, the system will come in making the vehicle potentially slide or stop unexpectedly in terrain, putting it into unsafe conditions. The problem can be reproduced easily, but the dealer and independent service centers refuse to test the vehicle in the state.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Bronco. The contact stated that with the cruise control activated, the brake pedal failed to respond as needed with the "Check Brake System" message displayed on the instrument panel. The contact was forced to disengage the cruise control or depress the brake pedal to the floorboard. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Bronco. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the brakes unintendedly engaged. The contact stated that the brakes were intermittently engaged even though the brake pedal was not depressed. The message "Check Braking System" was displayed on the instrument panel. The failure had occurred several times. The contact researched and was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V488000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic), 25V823000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included in the recalls. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the dealer stated that without a fault code, the vehicle could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that dealers were independent. No additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
2022 Ford bronco has by default an auto engine shut off when coming to a stop and set of conditions are met. The event occurred to a MANUAL transmission 2022 ford bronco. ~4/5/23, driver was driving up the canyon at an incline when encountering stop and go traffic. After stopping on the incline, the engine shut off per normal operation after shifting to neutral with the brake pedal firmly pushed. About 1-2 seconds after engine shutoff, while driver has brake firmly pushed, the car begins to roll back, with an apparent loss in brake power. Only after driver clutched in to first gear and stalled the vehicle did Vehicle arrest in its rearward motion, narrowly avoiding backing into the car that is stopped behind. From an outward observation the auto start/stop is not suited for standard manual transmission operation when stopped on an incline. The roll back apparently is due to loss of brake power/boost when the auto-start stop function stops the engine.
While driving!! My brake pedal felt rock hard , I HAD NO BRAKES !! The car kept cruising , luckily for us! Vermont is very rural and roads was wide open with no traffic, I had some time to keep stomping on the brakes till I was able to regain braking power, this could have killed us!! If I needed to slow down I would not have been!! I had a 3 year on in the back and my pregnant girlfriend in the passenger, I almost shit my pants when I realized the brake pedal was unresponsive! I had no service !! We had to drive the car with intermittent braking just so that I can’t get some sell service!! I contacted a fire dealer that was 40 minutes from my location to give them a heads up, I was advised to call ford customer relations, my case number is CAS-41297357-H8T7R8 They towed the bronco on Monday to bring it to that dealer while I’m here in Vermont for about a week , I have no vehicle, ford offered 40/day in reimbursement if I get a rental, unfortunately this isn’t 2013 where I can actually find a car rental for that price , cheapest was 90 per day. I posted this on Facebook and was so surprised that this has happened to other bronco owners !!
During flat towing the EBB shuts down making the auxiliary brake ineffective, this a safety concern. Ford is aware of the situation, but has failed to address this safety issue.
Flat Towing 2022 Ford Bronco with 2.7 V6 engine. After connecting my Bronco to the motorhome and putting it in the tow mode the following will occur. About 45 mins after turning the ignition off and closing the doors the EBB (Electronic Brake Boost) in the Bronco shuts down leaving the Bronco without any brake boost and leaves the supplemental brake system ineffective. When first connecting the Bronco to the motorhome the brake boost is active and the supplemental brake system must be set to match, or it will lock up the brakes on the Bronco when you stop. After the boost shuts down the supplemental brake system cannot apply enough force to the Bronco brakes to assist in stopping and suddenly, without notice, it takes a much greater distance to stop the motorhome than it did when the boost was working. Ford came up with a temporary work around so the EBB never comes on. This involves pulling fuses but you.have to wait for 5 minutes after you close the doors for the vehicle to go enter sleep mode. To take the Bronco out of flat tow mode you must again wait 5 minutes after opening the hood and closing the doors before re-installing the fuses. When flat towing behind with a motorhome it is impossible to backup with the tow vehicle attached. Having to wait 5 minutes before being able to disconnect the tow vehicle is very dangerous in many situations.
BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. BRAKE PEDAL GOT HARD WHEN DEPRESSING. BRAKE PEDAL THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WENT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE PART NEEDED WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR A COUPLE MONTHS AND WAS TOLD NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS DISABLED FROM 08/18/2022 TILL 11/11/2022, APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS FINALLY REPAIRED ON 11/11/2022 AND RELEASED BACK TO ME. AS OF THIS DATE 02/16/2022 FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO COMPENSATE ME FOR 3 MONTHS OF LOST VEHICLE USAGE AND 3 MONTH WARRANTY EXTENSION. A SURROGATE WAS APPOINTED BY FORD AND SHE DID NOTHING TO GET ME ANY COMPENSATION FROM FORD OR EXTENDING MY WARRANTY. THE SURROGATE REFUSES TO ANSWER EMAILS OR PHONE CALLS FROM ME IN REGARD TO THE VEHICLE.
Vehicle reported Anti-Brake Fault. Vehicle reported Pre-Collision Fault. Vehicle reported 4 different hill start Assist Failures. I noticed the Pre-Collison feature did not work because the breaks never activated when there was a sudden merge into my lane going 65 miles per hour. The car says that the pre-collision feature is enabled but did not respond to a vehicle that came close to causing a wreck.
When set in flat towing mode the Bronco’s electronic brake boost (EBB) shuts off after 45 minutes or less. Once the EBB shuts off the Bronco’s brakes, which are connected to the motorhome’s brakes via an auxiliary brake system, no longer work properly and will not slow the Bronco. This failure then requires the motorhome’s brakes to stop both the Bronco and the motorhome and creates a serious safety issue because: 1) Stopping distance increases dramatically. 2) The motorhome’s brakes could fade, while descending grades, leading to total braking failure. Nearly all states require towed units in excess of 3,000# to have brakes but once the EBB shuts off the Bronco is in violation of these laws.
I purchased this vehicle to flat tow behind my motorhome. Ford states that the full size Broncos are flat tow capable, but unfortunately the braking system times out due to the electronic brake boost being on a timer. I have installed a supplemental braking unit to activate the brakes on the Bronco when being towed behind my motorhome. The braking system inoperative after the 45 minutes that the electronic brake booster times out. This is a huge safety concern due to the weight of the Bronco not slowing down as intended while being flat towed. This needs to be addressed with Ford Motor Company. I do know that I am not the only person who has experienced this issue and more people will continue to have this issue until a fix is implemented.
