IT'S MY 2011 FORD EDGE SEL. THE DRIVER AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME NO MATTER HOW HARD I SLAM THE DOOR. THIS SITUATION IS UNSAFE BECAUSE WHILE DRIVING IT LEAVES ALL THE DOORS UNSECURED. THIS IS NOT RIGHT, ANYONE COULD COME AT THE LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS AND OPEN UP THE VEHICLE. ALSO IT NOT SAFE FOR THE KIDS. THIS IS A BIG SECURITY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO.
THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR SENSOR IS BAD, WHICH KEEPS THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT ON AT ALL TIMES, AND KEEPS THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS ON FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, WHICH DRAINS THE BATTERY AND IS ALSO DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. HAD THE DEALER "FIX" THE ISSUE BY DOING A CLEANING/CYCLING ON THE ELECTRICAL PART OF THE LATCH, BUT IT ONLY LASTED A FEW MONTHS AND NOW THE PROBLEM IS BACK. FORD DOES NOT SEEM WILLING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE AS A SAFETY CONCERN - UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH OVERHEAD LIGHTS ON, AND IT DRAINS THE BATTERY, WHICH HAS CAUSED OTHER ISSUES FOR ME, INCLUDING HAVING TO REPLACE THE BATTERY WELL AHEAD OF ITS INTENDED USEFUL LIFE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR DOME LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED DUE TO THE FAULTY DOOR LATCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
VEHICLE FAILED NJ STATE INSPECTION TWICE FOR "NOT READY" CONDITIONS. THERE'S A KNOWN ISSUE RECALL 13E04 - PCM CONFIGURATION ERROR WITH COMPUTER ISSUE DTC P160A REOCCURRING AND OUR VIN IS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS FIRST RECALL ALTHOUGH EVERY ISSUE IS THE SAME AS VIN SPECIFIC RECALLS
DOOR AJAR NOT TURNING OFF
DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR SENSOR MALFUNCTIONING. ELECTRICAL/SENSOR FAULT CAUSING DOORS TO NOT LOCK. RESULTS IN LIGHTS STAYING ON AND DEPLETES THE BATTERY.
THE SENSOR IN MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR WARNS ME THAT MY DOOR IS "AJAR" WHEN ALL DOORS ARE SHUT. WHEN THIS WARNING IS ON, I AM NOT ABLE TO LOCK ANY DOORS IN MY VEHICLE (NEITHER IN MOTION NOR PARKED) AND I OFTEN TRAVEL WITH TODDLERS. THE DOME LIGHTS ARE ALSO ILLUMINATED SO IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE ON THE ROAD AT NIGHT.
I LEFT MY HOUSE IN THE MORNING ON 11/6 AND AFTER A SHORT DRIVE THE "AWD OFF" AND A "LITTLE WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR LOST POWER AND JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET SINCE I WAS TRYING TO GO UP A HILL. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME!! IT STARTED TO RUN VERY ROUGH SO I TURNED IT OFF QUICKLY, WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND RESTARTED IT. THE CAR THEN RAN OK AND GOT ME TO WORK AND HOME AGAIN BUT WHEN MY HUSBAND TOOK IT TO RUN AN ERRAND THAT NIGHT, SAME THING HAPPENED TO HIM AND THEN AGAIN THIS MORNING WHEN I WAS BRINGING THE CAR DOWN FOR SERVICE. THIS WAS THREE TIMES IN ONE DAY! WITH NO WARNING THE CAR JUST LOSES POWER AND STOPS. VERY DANGEROUS!! I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR NOW AND I DON'T WANT TO BE ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAVE THIS HAPPEN - SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. THE DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR FIND A CODE COMING UP TO REVEAL THE ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY LOSE POWER ( NOT ACCELERATE ). THE WRENCH LIGHT WILL COME ON. YOU MUST TRY TO SAFELY COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD AND TURN IGNITION OFF AND RESTART. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND IS VERY DANGEROUS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND CITY DRIVING. DANGEROUS ALSO WHEN THERE IS NOT ENOUGH ROOM TO PULL OFF ROAD SAFELY. WE HAVE TAKEN CAR TO FORD DEALERSHIP BUT THEY CANNOT FIND PROBLEM. WE HAVE NOTED ON THE INTERNET THAT A LOT OF OTHER FORD EDGE DRIVERS ARE ALSO HAVING THIS ISSUE. I WOULD THINK THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY WOULD BE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. I WOULD HOPE THAT THIS ISSUE WILL BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES FROM 11/30/2015. THE "MY FORD TOUCH" SYSTEM COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN, STARTING IN NOV. 2015. THE SYSTEM CONTROLS REAR VIEW CAMERA AND HANDS FREE CELL CALLS AMONG OTHER THINGS. THE SYSTEM CAME BACK ON AND AGAIN FAILED AT VARIOUS TIMES THROUGH 2016. I HAD TO REMOVE THE BATTERY CONNECTION AND RECONNECT , AS DIRECTED IN FORD WEBSITE ( KEY RESET). IT AGAIN FAILED IN JAN 2017 AND FINALLY IT FAILED COMPLETELY MARCH 2017. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATION REGARDING UPDATES TO THE SYSTEM. WHEN YOU GET USED TO THE REAR VIEW CAMERA SYSTEM AND HANDS FREE CALLS , IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN WHEN IT IS NOT AVAILABLE.
DOOR AJAR WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED KEEPS LIGHTS ON.........HARD TO SEE AT NIGHT.....DRAINS BATTERY...CANT USE DOOR BUTTONS TO LOCK DOOR......
PASENGER DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON EVEN AFTER THE DOOR IS CLOSED . THE LIGHT INSIDE STAYS ON AFTER LUCKING THE DOOR.
THE DOOR SENSOR IS CONSTANTLY INDICATING THE DOOR IS OPEN EVEN WHEN CLOSED AND SEALED TIGHT. THE INSIDE DOME LIGHTS REMAIN ON BECAUSE OF THIS AND YOU CANNOT SEE THROUGH YOU REAR VIEW MIRROR ESPECIALLY DURING NIGHT DRIVING. IN ADDITION THE LIGHT REMAINS ON EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED AND YOU HAVE LEFT CAR. THIS ATTACKS THE POSSIBILITY OF A BURGLARY. ALSO WHILE DRIVING THE DOME LIGHT REMAINS ON BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE DOOR SENSOR AND THE DRIVER IS CONSTANTLY SLAMMING THE DOOR TO GET THE SENSOR TO SHUT OFF.
WAS DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY AND THE POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION WARNING CAME ON. I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR JUST SHUTDOWN.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while turning the steering wheel in either direction, a clunking noise was coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the front driver’s and passenger’s side axle, cv joint, and wheel hub assembly had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure had reoccurred. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT INTO PARK. DEALERSHIP EMPLOYEE TOLD ME THAT THIS HAPPENS SO OFTEN IN FORD EDGE AND EXPLORER THAT THEY HAVE TO KEEP THE AFFECTED PARTS IN STOCK CONSTANTLY. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY DEFECT AND COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD BE LEFT IN GEAR WITHOUT THE TRANSMISSION BEING LOCKED. FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD CORRECT THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH RESULTS.
JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD-IT HAS HAPPENED IN CITY DRIVING SLOW AND ON INTERSTATE DRIVING FAST- VEHICLE GOES LIMP AND RED WRENCH LITE COMES ON. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN 2WEEKS. I HAVE TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD, PUT CAR IN PARK AND RESTART THEN EVERYTHING IS FINE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SOMEONE IS GONNA GET KILLED! WHEN PUTTING VEHICLE ON THE MACHINE IT WILL NOT READ CODE BECAUSE WRENCH LITE GOES OFF WHEN U KILL AND RESTART IT. THIS SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING ON OTHER FORD AND LINCOLN MODELS FROM WHAT I'M READING ON FORUMS. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL AND FIX THIS PROBLEM ASAP!
MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING HOME (GOING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH) WITH OUR 2 YEAR OLD AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR LOST POWER. IT DID NOT DIE BUT WOULDN'T GO OVER 5 MPH. THANKFULLY, WE WERE CLOSE TO HOME AND NOT ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. IF WE HAD BEEN ON A BUSY HIGHWAY I DO BELIEVE IT WOULD HAVE CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND THAT TERRIFIES ME SINCE THIS IS OUR PRIMARY FAMILY VEHICLE. I HAVE READ THAT FORD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE BUT WAS NOT MADE TO ISSUE A RECALL. UNFORTUNATELY, FORD INC'S "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM" FOR THIS ISSUE EXPIRED IN JANUARY 2015 SO NOW I WILL BE OUT THE MONEY TO FIX THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE MADE TO ISSUE A RECALL TO FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE IT KILLS SOMEONE.
THIS IS THE SECOND REPORT I HAVE MADE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THE FIRST WAS ON/ABOUT SET. 26, 2015. WHEN I WAS DRIVING, THE CAR IN MOTION, THE POWER TRAIN MALFUNCTION INDICATOR (A WRENCH) COMES ON, THE CAR LOSES ALL POWER, GOES DOWN TO PERHAPS 2 MILES PER HOUR, AND THEN STOPS. IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE POWER STEERING ALSO GOES OUT. WHEN THE CAR STOPS, IT SHAKES AND JERKS. YOU CANNOT ACCELERATE. I TURN THE MOTOR OFF AND THEN ON, "RESETTING" THE INDICATOR (PER THE FORD DEALERSHIP). AND THE ISSUE STOPS. IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY, OCT. 23RD. TWICE (IN THE MORNING AND AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON). I CALLED SAM GALLOWAY FORD IN FORT MYERS, FL AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN ON NOV. 4TH. AGAIN, TODAY IS OCT. 23. I WAS TOLD, BY DANIELLE (SERVICE ADVISOR), THAT "SINCE IT IS NOT HAPPENING ALL THE TIME IT WAS FINE TO WAIT" UNTIL NOV. 4, 2015. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME, ANYONE I HAVE IN THE CAR, AND OTHER DRIVERS. ARE YOU GOING TO WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE GETS KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE? I AM ON BUSY ROADS WHEN THIS HAPPENS. WHY DON'T YOU DO SOMETHING????
PASSENGER DOOR AJAR WARNING BEGAN TO COME ON IN OCTOBER 2015, EVEN WHEN THE PASSENGER DOOR WAS SHUT. THIS HAS RESULTED IN THE DOME LIGHTS STAYING ON WHEN I BEGIN TO DRIVE THE CAR. THIS CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE AT NIGHT, AS IT HAS A VERY NEGATIVE IMPACT ON MY VISION UNTIL THE DOME LIGHTS GO OFF. WHEN I PARK THE CAR, SHUT IT OFF, AND CLOSE ALL DOORS, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS HAS RESULTED IN A DRAINING OF MY BATTERY. I HAVE HAD TO CHARGE THE BATTERY ON MANY OCCASIONS (6 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK). THIS ISSUE IS FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ME HAVING TO PURCHASE A NEW BATTERY YESTERDAY, WHICH COST NEARLY $200 INSTALLED. THE BATTERY DRAINING BECAUSE OF THIS MATTER COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE DEPENDING ON WHERE I WAS AND WHO WAS AROUND WHEN I NEEDED A JUMP. FINALLY, THE PASSENGER DOOR AJAR INDICATOR MALFUNCTION PROHIBITS ME FROM LOCKING MY DOORS WHEN I AM DRIVING. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE TO TRAVEL THREE TIMES A WEEK INTO A CITY WITH HIGH CRIME AND I CANNOT LOCK MY DOORS!! I HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE REAR LEFT DOOR AJAR INDICATOR, ALTHOUGH TO A LESSER EXTENT. FORD IS AWARE THAT THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM HERE AND I FEEL THEY SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES IN THE INTEREST OF THE SAFETY OF THE OWNERS. IT SEEMS TO BE THEY COULD BE LIABLE IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT DUE TO DOME LIGHTS BLINDING A DRIVER AT NIGHT OR IF THERE WAS THEFT OR INJURY RESULTING FROM DOORS NOT BEING ABLE TO BE LOCKED WHEN DRIVING. THE REPAIR IS QUITE EXPENSIVE AND VEHICLE OWNERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS. THIS ISSUE HAS MADE ME DISLIKE DRIVING AND OWNING THIS VEHICLE FOR THE PAST YEAR. PLEASE FORCE FORD TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND MAKE THEM RECALL THESE VEHICLES. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME AND ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.
WRENCH WARNING LIGHT, THEN LOST ACCELERATION, CAR STOPPED. DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED.
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE THE VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN STALLED. THE ENGINE WAS STILL ON AND RUNNING BUT WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. WAS FORCED TO CAREFULLY PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STARTED WITH NO PROBLEM. THIS WAS A SCARY SITUATION NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH. THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED OUT BY 2 MECHANICS AND THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM. CHECKED WITH FORD AND WAS NO TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS, AFTER I EXPLAINED MY SITUATION. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET I REALIZED OTHERS WERE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THROTTLE BODY HOUSING ISSUES WERE DESCRIBED REPEATEDLY. AT MY EXPENSE HAD THE THROTTLE BODY HOUSING ASSEMBLY REMOVED AND REPLACED. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION THAT NEEDS ADDRESSING BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY. AS A RETIRED HOUSTON FIREFIGHTER I SAW MY SHARE OF HORRIBLE INJURIES AS A RESULT OF MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS. THE CAR IN QUESTION BELONGS TO MY DAUGHTER AND IT IS HER FIRST. IF ANYTHING WERE TO HAPPEN TO HER MY FAMILY WOULD BE CRUSHED. I AM SEEKING SOME ANSWERS TO WHY FORD HAS NOT DONE SOMETHING ABOUT THIS MAJOR PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM THAT NOT ONLY NEEDS ADDRESSING BUT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED BEFORE SOMEONE IS AFFECTED IN A TRAGIC WAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED, LUNGED FORWARD, AND THE LIMP HOME MODE INDEPENDENTLY ACTIVATED. THE CHECK ENGINE AND THROTTLE CONTROL ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FULL THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE INSPECTED WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE THROTTLE CONTROL ACTUATOR WAS STUCK OPEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 62,800.....UPDATED 03-31-16 *BF *CN
MY CAR WILL CUT OFF RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET AT AROUND 40 MILES PER HOUR. IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE IN A DRIVE THROUGH WHILE IDLING WITH FOOT ON BRAKE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LATCH SENSOR WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE ISSUE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK AND FORTH TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE DOORS FAILED TO LOCK. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DRAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LATCH WIRE HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. AS A RESULT, THE DOOR LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,948.
THE DRIVERS DOOR DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS WAS STAYING ON AT ALL TIMES WITH THE DOOR SHUT. HAD TO REPLACE THE DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY TO MAKE THE ISSUE GO AWAY. POTENTIALLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF THE DOOR LATCH IS MALFUNCTIONING.
INTERIOR LIGHTING STAYS ON WHEN IN PARK OR DRIVING BECAUSE OF DOOR SWITCH MALFUNCTION SAYING DOOR IS AJAR WHEN IT IS IN FACT CLOSED CREATES DRIVING HAZARD WHEN LIGHTS WILL NOT TURN OFF AND GLARING OFF WINDSHIELD MAKING DRIVING AT NIGHT DANGERS PLEASE MAKE A RECALL AND FIX THIS ISSUE.
ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON IN BUSY, FAST MOVING HIGHWAY TRAFFIC, I BEGAN A LANE CHANGE TO TURN RIGHT OFF OF THE HIGHWAY ONTO A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET. MY CAR JOLTED THEN ABRUPTLY LOST ALL ACCELERATION. I DID HAVE ELECTRICAL POWER AND POWER STEERING, BUT NO SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO CREEP ALONG AT SNAIL PACE STAYING TO THE FAR RIGHT. I PUT ON MY FLASHERS, AND FORTUNATELY ALL TRAFFIC BEHIND ME COULD SAFELY MANUEVER AROUND TO PASS ME. I WAS QUITE SCARED BY THE SUDDEN ONSET OF THIS PROBLEM, THE LOSS OF CONTROL AND THE FACT THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ONLY GAVE ME "WRENCH" SYMBOL AND NO INSTRUCTIONS OR DESCRIPTIONS THAT WERE HELPFUL. ONCE I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN, THE SYMBOL LIGHT WAS GONE AND MY CAR DROVE NORMALLY. AT NO TIME PRIOR TO THIS EVENT DID MY INSTRUMENT PANEL DENOTE ANY ISSUE WITH MY POWER TRAIN. ONCE I HAD THIS FAILURE, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY DEALER, MAXWELL FORD IN AUSTIN, AND THEY INFORMED ME THIS IS AN EVENT THAT THEY HAVE SEEN BEFORE. I WAS LUCKY TO BE GOING OFF THE HIGHWAY TO THE RIGHT...A LEFT TURN WOULD HAVE BEEN FATAL IN THIS CIRCUMSTANCE, AS THERE WAS NO WAY TO ACCELERATE AND CLEAR MYSELF FROM ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY FORD BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.
WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE STALLS, RUNNING ONLY IN A ROUGH IDLE. THE AWD OFF WARNING LIGHT COMES ON ALONG WITH A WARNING LIGHT SHOWING A WRENCH ICON. THE VEHICLE WILL ONLY MOVE 1 - 2 MILES PER HOUR, WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC OR AT AN INTERSECTION! THIS HAPPENS AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS IN CITY DRIVING (I FEEL IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT FAST HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE!) I UNDERSTAND OTHER FORD VEHICLES HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM ARE NAMED IN A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM, AND THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY THAT IS REPLACED.
I WAS DRIVING AT 35 MPH WHEN MY CAR JERKED AND LOST ALL POWER. I HAD TO COAST OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT ANY STEERING CAPABILITY. A WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE AWD OR POWER TRAIN. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM AND MY CAR STORED NO CODES FOR DIAGNOSTICS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR CAUSED THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE ALTHOUGH THE DOOR WAS CLOSED. IN ADDITION, THE INTERIOR LIGHTING REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LATCH ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000.
VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH ON BUSY 4 LANE ROAD WITH NO SHOULDER. YELLOW WRENCH LIT UP ON DASH AND CAR COMPLETELY AND IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN LEAVING ME WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO STEER AND SAFELY REMOVE THE VEHICLE OFF OF THE ROAD (I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED AND A CAR HAD TO SWERVE TO KEEP FROM HITTING ME). THIS HAPPENED TWICE IN 8 HOURS. CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED, HAD FUEL, NEW BATTERY, ETC. WITH NO OTHER WARNINGS OR INDICATORS. THIS ISSUE IS VERY DANGEROUS!

HOW IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS KEEP CONTINUE IN THE LATEST MODELS ALSO, WHAT KIND OF ENGINEERS HAVE FORD THAT THEY CAN NOT FIX THIS SMALL ISSUE THAT CAN CAUSE BIG PROBLEMS IN A CASE OF AN ACCCIDENT.

HEADLIGHTS LOST BRIGHTNESS. REPLACING BULBS DOES NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THERE APPEARS TO BE A HAZY FILM ON THE INSIDE OF THE ROUND LOWER BEAM LENS.
DOOR AJAR WARNING - MY FRONT, DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR CONSTANTLY STATES THAT IT IS AJAR. THIS CAUSES THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON LONGER THAN NECESSARY, THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND THE DOOR AJAR WARNING REMAINS ON AT ALL TIMES. OTHERS HAVE SUGGESTED USING WD40 AND LUBRICANTS TO CLEAN THE SENSOR. I'VE TRIED THIS, AND IT WORKED FOR A FEW TIMES, BUT THIS IS NO LONGER WORKING.
1. DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON PERIODICALLY AT ANY TIME AND DOORS WONT LOCK 2. SYNC SYSTEMS TURNS ON AND OFF WHILE PARKED. OUTER LIGHTS TURN ON AND OFF WHILE PARKED AS WELL AND NOT AT THE SAME TIME AS THE SYNC SYSTEM. THE KEY IS NOT IN THE CAR WHEN THIS HAPPENS.
DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME, THIS CAUSE THE DOORS TO NOT BE ABLE TO LOCK, THE INTERIOR LIGHT STAYS ON FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. WHEN THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON AT NIGHT IT MAKES DRIVING DIFFICULT AT TIMES. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAYING ON IN THE WINTER TIME HAVE ALSO MADE IT DRAIN THE BATTERY DOWN SO VEHICLE HAS TO BE JUMP STARTED.
LAST WEEK, WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2011 FORD EDGE SPORT WITH 41,000 MILES AT 65MPH ON A BUSY CHICAGO HIGHWAY, THE MESSAGE CENTER PINGED, "AWD OFF" MESSAGE APPEARED, THEN A PICTURE OF A WRENCH APPEARED. THE CAR THEN LOST ALL POWER, INCLUDING STEERING. LUCKILY, SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND TURN THE CAR OFF. AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES, SHE STARTED THE CAR AND ALL APPEARED FINE. NOT BEING SURE OF WHAT JUST HAPPENED, WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. $200.00 LATER, THEY TOLD US THAT A BRAKE PEDAL CONNECTOR WAS LOOSE AND THAT WAS MOST LIKELY THE CAUSE. A WEEK LATER THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED, AGAIN WHILE SHE WAS TRAVELING ON A BUSY CHICAGO AREA HIGHWAY AT 65MPH. AFTER PULLING OVER, TURNING THE CAR OFF, AND CALMING HERSELF DOWN, SHE STARTED DRIVING TO GET OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME SHE PULLED OVER AND CALLED ME. I MET HER AND I DROVE THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. WHILE I WAS DRIVING, IT HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES. HOWEVER, I NOTICED THAT IT APPEARED THAT IF I KEPT THE CAR UNDER 40MPH, IT WOULD RUN WITHOUT RECURRENCE. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY WERE ABLE TO READ THE COMPUTER CODE. THIS TIME THEY TOLD ME IT WAS CODE P2111 AND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR CONTROL WAS STUCK OPEN AND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. $800.00 LATER, THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. THE EVENING WE DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHILE DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I LEARNED THAT THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH A "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM" TO ADDRESS BEING PUT IN PLACE. UNFORTUNATELY, MY FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT THEY KNEW NOTHING OF THIS WHEN WE PICKED THE CAR UP THE NEXT DAY. HAVING BEEN THROUGH THIS, I CAN SAY I AM QUITE SURPRISED THERE ARE NO DEATHS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE.

I WAS DRIVING, AT 40 MILES PER HOUR, ON A CITY STREET. THE YELLOW/GOLD INDICATOR (A WRENCH) APPEARED. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER, GOING FROM 40 TO 20 MILES PER HOUR. THIS HAPPENED IN LESS THAN ONE MINUTE. I PULLED ON TO A SIDE STREET, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, AND CHECKED TO OWNER'S MANUAL. IT SAID :POWER TRAIN MALFUNCTION". THE INSTRUCTIONS SAID TO STOP DRIVING AND CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. I DID THIS. I CALLED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEN CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. I WANTED TO KNOW IF IT WAS SAFE TO TURN ON THE CAR'S AIR CONDITIONING. I WAS TOLD, "YES" THIS IS SAFE. THE TOW ARRIVED 65 MINUTES LATER AND TOOK THE CAR DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER THREE DAYS OF GOING OVER THE CAR, DRIVING IT, CONTACTING FORD, THE (FORD) DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE THE CAR AND IF THIS HAPPENED AGAIN, TO BRING THE CAR DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND DO NOT TURN OFF THE ENGINE. HOW AM I TO DRIVE THE CAR WHEN THE CAR IS IN THIS CONDITION? HOW CAN I DRIVE ON A CITY HIGHWAY OR AN INTERSTATE, WHERE THE SPEED IS HIGH AND HAVE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN? HOW CAN I SAFELY DRIVE MY GRANDCHILDREN IN THIS CAR? THE DOOR AJAR SENSOR DOES NOT REGISTER THAT THE DOOR IS CLOSED.
PASSENGER DOOR AJAR ALERT IS ON CONSTANT DELAY. THE DOOR IS CLOSED BUT THE SENSOR WILL NOT GO OFF. THIS LEAVES THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS ON WHICH CREATE A VISIBILITY ISSUE AT NIGHT. THIS ALERT ALSO PREVENTS THE DOORS FROM LOCKING. ONCE THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF THE COMPUTER AND LIGHTS STAY ON FOR ANOTHER 10 MINUTES BEFORE TURNING OFF WHICH ALSO DRAINS THE BATTERY.
THE DRIVER DOOR AJAR LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON CAUSING THE INTERIOR LIGHT TO STAY ON AND CAR NOT TO LOCK. WEATHER YOU ARE PARKING OR TRYING TO DRIVE AWAY, YOU HAVE TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR A BUNCH OF TIMES FOR IT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DOOR IS SHUT.
ISSUE 1: THE CAR CONTINUES TO SAY THAT THE DOOR IS NOT CLOSED. I WILL OPEN AND RECLOSE AND IT STILL DOES NOT CLEAR THE READ ERROR ON THE DASH. IT IS THE DRIVERS DOOR. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ONLINE AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE. THE DOME LIGHTS STAY ON UNTIL SPEEDS OF 12 MPH ARE REACHED AND IF BACKING UP IT WILL NOT TURN OFF. THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WHEN INSIDE DUE TO THE DOOR AJAR. ISSUE 2: THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE- THE AIR BAG LIGHT WILL COME ON MY CAR AFTER DRIVING FOR 20 MINUTES. THIS ONE IS CONCERNING TO ME BECAUSE NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHY IT DOES IT. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAY TO BRING TO LOCAL DEALER. LOCAL DEALER TELLS ME IT IS BECAUSE I HAVE WEIGHT ON THE PASSENGER SEAT - THIS ORANGE LIGHT WILL COME ON EVEN WHEN I DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING ON THE PASSENGER SEAT OR EVEN WHEN THE SEAT BELT ON THE PASSENGER SEAT IS BUCKLED. I AM SCARED THAT MY AIRBAGS DO NOT WORK WHEN THAT IS LIT-- LUCKILY I HAVE NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT YET TO FIND OUT. BUT THEY DO NOT WANT TO FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE WITHOUT CHARGING ME AN ARM AND LEG TO LOOK INTO IT TO DIAGNOSE TO START.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, A "AWD OFF" MESSAGE APPEARS IN THE MESSAGE CENTER, ACCOMPANIED BY A WRENCH ICON INDICATING A POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION. THE ENGINE SPEED DROPS TO A ROUGH IDLE WHICH IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CAR THEN COASTS TO A STOP. THERE IS NO LOSS OF POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE CLEARS THE ERROR AND MAKES THE CAR OPERABLE AGAIN. THIS ISSUE OCCURRED ON 9/11/2015 & 9/14/2015
