TELL US WHAT HAPPENED: TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: MY VEHICLE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE WHETHER MY DOOR IS OPENED OR CLOSED. I AM ALWAYS CONCERNED THAT EVEN SHUTTING IT MAY LEAD TO ISSUES BECAUSE THE ALERT IS SAYING ITS NOT IS NOT CLOSED. WILL MY DOOR RADOMLY OPEN ON THE HIGHWAY? IF IM IN AND ACCIDENT WILL I BE THROWN OUT OF THE CAR? I HAVE CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND EVEN PUT MY CAR IN THE SHOP THREE. THEY GAVE A TEMPORARY FIX AND REALLY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD ABOUT IT AND THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE RECALLED IN ORDER THEM TO LOOK IN TO THE ISSUE. MY GIRLFRIEND PURCHASE THE CAR AT THE SAME TIME AND SHE IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH NOT ONLY HER DRIVERS DOOR BUT HER PASSENGER DOORS WHICH COULD ENDANGER HE CHILDREN. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. WE ARE AFRAID THAT THIS ISSUE COULD POTENTIALLY HURT ALOT OF PEOPLE
DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON. *TR
MY VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN SLOWED DOWN TO A COAST AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. A YELLOW ICON APPEARED AND INFORMED ME THAT I NEEDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER ASAP, THERE IS A MALFUNCTION IN THE VEHICLE'S AWD SYSTEM. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN OF THE CAR. THE CAR THEN STARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR OVER TO THE DEALERSHIP I GOT HIT WITH A $1,000 BILL, FOR THE PART (THROTTLE BOX CONTROLLER) $475, LABOR $120, RE PROGRAMMING THE COMPUTER $130, FUEL INJECTOR CLEANING $159 AND OIL CHANGE $75. MY CAR IS ALMOST THREE YEARS OLD AND I TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT. IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE THAT AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT'S PART AND LABOR REPLACEMENT COST IS $1000 IN LESS THAN THREE YEARS. *TR
WHILE MERGING ONTO FREEWAY SUDDENLY LOST ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. WRENCH ICON CAME ON DASH DISPLAY. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. TURNED CAR OFF, TURNED BACK ON AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR NORMALLY AGAIN. I AM HOPING THERE IS A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM AS IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
ACTUALLY HAPPENED TWICE. ONCE AT 60 MPH AND AGAIN AT ABOUT 15MPH. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY DECELERATES ON ITS OWN AS IF IT IS NOT GETTING GAS. THE "WRENCH" ICON COMES ON. WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, IT FUNCTIONS NORMALLY. SEVERAL SIMILAR INSTANCES REPORTED ON INTERNET. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CAUSING THE DOME LIGHT TO REMAIN ON WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VISIBILITY WAS DIMINISHED WHEN THE DOME LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
DRIVER DOOR LATCH/DRIVER DOOR AJAR INDICATOR LIGHT STAYS ON TO INCLUDE INTERNAL CAB LIGHTS WHICH WILL REMAIN ON. YOU CAN ATTEMPT TO CLOSE DRIVER DOOR MULTIPLE TIMES WITHOUT SUCCESS ON REMOVING INDICATOR LIGHT ALERT. YOU CANNOT LOCK DOORS WHILE IN MOTION OR NOT, AND CAB LIGHTS WILL REMAIN ON. LOCAL FORD DEALER JORDAN FORD OR RIATA FORD WHOM I PURCHASED VEHICLE FROM REFUSE TO FIX PROBLEM AS THEY WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THIS PROBLEM AS VALID, AND DOING SO WOULD COST ME AN ASTRONOMICAL FEE FOR LABOR AND PARTS AS PER THEIR ESTIMATE. IT IS NOW 5 MONTHS OUT OF THE 12 MONTHS THAT I PURCHASED THIS PRE-OWNED FORD CERTIFIED VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN JUST A BIG HEADACHE FOR US. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT LOCK WHILE THIS ALERT REMAINS ACTIVE WHETHER CAR IS IN MOTION OR PARKED. YOU CANNOT ARM AND LOCK VEHICLE WHICH IS A BIG DISILLUSION AND INSURANCE WOULD NOT COVER ANY THEFT SHOULD THERE BE ONE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. WHEN ALERT IS ACTIVE BUILT IN THEFT ALARM WILL ALSO GO OFF AT ANY UNKNOWN MOMENT, DAY OR NIGHT. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF BAD REVIEWS ON THIS MODEL VEHICLE AND I FOR ONE, WISHED I HAD READ UP ON IT PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE. THIS IS NOT A LIFE AND DEATH SITUATION, BUT COULD BECOME ONE WITH THE VARIOUS SCENARIOS THAT CAN OCCUR. I WOULD HOPE TO RECEIVE A RESPONSE AND I GUESS I HAVE TO WAIT LIKE ALL THE OTHERS. *TR
DRIVER DOOR AJAR ALERT SENSOR KEEPS COMING ON AND DOES NOT GO OFF WHICH DOES NOT ALLOW FOR AUTO LOCK ONCE IN DRIVE AND LEAVES DOME LIGHTS ON. *TR
DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON, EVEN WHEN THE DOOR IS SHUT. WILL NOT ALLOW AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS TO LATCH. THIS IS A DANGER TO CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT. ALSO, WEARS OUT THE LIFE OF THE BATTERY. INTERIOR LIGHT STAY ON FOR 3 MIN AFTER DRIVING, THIS MAKES IT A HAZARD TO SEE WHEN DRIVING. *TR
ACCELERATOR BECAME UNRESPONSIVE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT SPEED CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING BUT YOU WERE UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, HAD TO MANEUVER OUT OF TRAFFIC ON TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND WAIT IN HIGH VOLUME TRAFFIC TO BE TOWED. *TR
DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON WHEN DOORS ARE CLOSED AND LIGHTS STAY LID ,ALARM WON'T ACTIVATE PROPERLY. *TR
INTERMITTENT "DOOR AJAR" WARNING INDICATOR ON DRIVER'S OPERATION PANEL. OPENING AND CLOSING, SOMETIMES WILL CLEAR THE WARNING INDICATOR. IF WARNING INDICATOR IS NOT EXTINGUISHED BY OPENING AND CLOSING DOOR, DOORS WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOCK (I. E. DOORS REMAIN UNLOCKED). FORD DEALER HAS USED A LUBRICANT (SPRAY LUBRICANT) INTO DEFECTIVE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK. ALARM IS LESS FREQUENT BUT STILL A PROBLEM. *TR
JUST AFTER THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 36,000 MILES THE "DRIVER DOOR AJAR" NOTIFICATION CAME ON AND WILL NOT GO OUT. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM AND WELL KNOWN TO FORD. SAFETY CONCERNS ARE THAT THE LIGHTING WILL NOT GO OUT AND DRIVING AT NIGHT IS SEVERELY HAMPERED AND THE DOORS CANNOT BE LOCKED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE NO-LOCK ISSUE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WHILE HAVING CHILDREN IN THE CAR...IE, GRANDDAUGHTER. *TR
DOOR AJAR SENSOR FAILED CAUSING BATTERY TO DIE. HAD TO BUY NEW BATTERY AND PAY $500+ TO REPLACE DOOR AJAR SENSOR. THE FED OPENED AN INVESTIGATION ON OCTOBER 3, 2016 TO INQUIRE ABOUT THIS WIDESPREAD ISSUE.
I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AT A INTERSECTION WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING LOST POWER TO THE WHEELS. THE ENGINE REMAINED ON BUT BEGAN TO SPUTTER. A YELLOW WRENCH APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD SAYING THAT THE AWD HAD TURNED OFF. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND IT RESTARTED WITH SOME DIFFICULTY. A FEW DAYS LATER THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN BUT NOW WONT RUN MORE THAN A FEW HUNDRED YARDS WITHOUT RECURRING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING 25 MILES PER HOUR ON A MAJOR ROADWAY AND FOR NO REASON THE CAR LOST ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND GASP. AFTER I LOST POWER TO THE ENGINE I COULD ONLY DRIVE ONE MILE AN HOUR TO TRY TO GET OFF THE ROAD IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I DID NOT GET IN AN ACCIDENT BUT IT COULD HAVE EASILY HAPPENED. A YELLOW WARNING WRENCH ICON APPEARED. I TURNED OFF THE CAR. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE PROBLEM RESOLVED. I TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY BECAUSE NO ERROR CODES WERE FOUND AND IT WAS DIRTY. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ONE WEEK LATER WHEN I WAS TRAVELING 50 MILES PER HOUR. I TRIED TO DRIVE TO A DEALERSHIP TO KEEP THE WRENCH ICON ON BUT THE CAR STALLED. I RESTARTED AND THE PROBLEM RESOLVED BUT I CONTINUED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. ONCE AGAIN THERE WAS NO CODE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET AND IT IS HAPPENING TO OTHERS AS WELL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I AM LUCKY IT DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BY FORD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE THE FRONT DRIVER DOOR WAS PROPERLY CLOSED. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT AND REARS DOORS LOCKED AND UNLOCK INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE SERVICE ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHOOK AND VIBRATED VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY ONCE IT WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,600.
WAS DRIVING IN BUSY RESIDENTIAL AREA AND THE CAR STARTED TO SHUDDER AND EVENTUALLY LOST ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE AND THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYED A WRENCH SYMBOL. IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I THEN TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND UPON RESTARTING WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE SHORT DISTANCE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER PERFORMED A PCM REPROGRAM. PER THE DIAGNOSTIC NOTES, AFTER GETTING A CODE OF P260F THEY REPROGRAMMED THE CAR TO THE LATEST CALIBRATION, TEST DROVE IT (APPROX 9 MILES) AND NO SIGN OF THE PROBLEM. I PICKED THE CAR UP ON FRIDAY, SEPT 5. TODAY, SEPT 7, 2014, JUST 2 DAYS AFTER "FIXING" THE PROBLEM, THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. SIMILAR SPEED, CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AND UNRESPONSIVE TO ACCELERATOR. FORTUNATELY, I WAS AT NEARLY THE SAME LOCATION SO I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, THIS APPEARS TO A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM IN THE FORD EDGE OWNER COMMUNITY. HOWEVER, IF THIS ISSUE WERE TO HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY, THE OUTCOME MIGHT BE VERY DIFFERENT. HOPING SOMEONE CAN HELP WITH THIS ISSUE. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. *TR
PASSENGER DOOR AJAR ALARM HAS CAME ON AND WILL NOT TURN OFF EVEN THOUGH DOOR IS CLOSED. WE ALREADY HAD BACK HATCH JAM FIXED ONCE. PASSENGER ALARM WILL GO OFF BY ITSELF WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING OR IF YOU STOP AFTER 5 MILES AND OPEN THEN CLOSE DOOR. *TR
THE DOOR SENSOR THAT REGISTERS THE DRIVER DOOR BEING OPEN OR SHUT HAS MALFUNCTIONED. CAUSING IT TO CONSTANTLY STATE THE DOOR IS AJAR WHEN IT IS CLOSED. VERY COMMON PROBLEM IT SEEMS FROM MANY COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER FORD EDGE OWNERS. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF FORD COULD STEP UP AND RECALL THIS PROBLEM, SINCE ITS STRETCHING TO THE LINCOLN BRAND TOO. ITS VERY UNSAFE FOR THESE REASONS, IT CAUSES THE CABIN LIGHT TO STAY ON LONGER WHICH CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS SEEING AT NIGHT TIL IT FINALLY DIMS, IT ALSO DRAINS THE BATTERY. BEING A SINGLE MOM, I DONT WANT TO BE STRANDED SOMEWHERE WITH MY CHILD WITH A DEAD BATTERY DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. THAT BEING SAID, NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCK DOORS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MY FAMILY IS SAFE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM.
DRIVERS DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON 90% OF THE TIME WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED. IT STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND IT WOULD DO IT OCCASIONALLY. NOW IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE TO WHERE IT IS PRETTY MUCH EVERY TIME I GET IN THE CAR. THERE ARE TONS OF COMPLAINTS EXACTLY LIKE MINE ABOUT THIS CAR WHEN SEARCHING THE INTERNET. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. *TR
READ DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH SENSOR SAYS THAT THE DOOR IS AJAR AND IT IS CLEARLY NOT. IT USED TO WORK BY OPENING AND CLOSING A FEW TIMES, BUT NOW HAS COMPLETELY FAILED. IT HAS BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE LOCKS WILL NOT ENGAGE WHILE DRIVING AS THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DON'T GO OFF EITHER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOORS FAILED TO LOCK WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. IN ADDITION, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR SWITCH FAILED. DOOR AJAR LIGHT ALWAYS ON. DOORS WILL NOT AUTO LOCK WHEN DRIVING DUE TO THE COMPUTER THINKING THE DOOR IS STILL OPEN. DOME LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS WHICH SHORTENS THE LIFE OF THE BATTERY.
DRIVING IN RESIDENTIAL AREA @ 35MPH. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, CAR WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE AND WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN WITHOUT PROBLEM. SAME EVENT PREVIOUSLY DESCRIBED OCCURRED AGAIN.1.5HRS LATER. THIS EVENT HAPPENED AT A LIGHT THAT HAD JUST TURNED GREEN AND THE CAR HAD TO BE STOPPED IN A TURN LANE, TURNED OFF AND BACK ON, CAUSING A DISTURBANCE IN TRAFFIC PATTERNS. AT THIS POINT, THE DEALERSHIP WAS CALLED AND NOTIFIED THAT I WAS BRINGING THE CAR IN FOR IMMEDIATE SERVICE. THE CAR THEN SHUT OFF AGAIN AND MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDED IT WAS NOT SAFE FOR ME TO TRAVEL 25MI TO DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED. WE WENT TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP,APPROX.5 MI AWAY. IN ROUTE TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP ON INTERSTATE GOING 65MPH THE CAR SHUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OVER ON THE SHOULDER TO STOP THE ENGINE.THE AREA WHERE MY CAR CAME TO A STOP WAS RIGHT AROUND A BLIND BEND IN THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS RESTARTED AND I DROVE FORWARD WHILE STILL ON THE SHOULDER IN HOPES THAT I WOULD BE ABLE TO GET AROUND THE BEND IN THE ROAD AND BE ABLE TO SAFELY ACCELERATE AND MERGE BACK INTO TRAFFIC WITHOUT DOING SO BLINDLY. I EXITED THE INTERSTATE ONTO SECONDARY ROADS LESS THAN 1MI LATER. THE CAR SHUT OFF 4 MORE TIMES WHILE DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP. ONE OF THESE TIMES WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGH TRAFFIC INTERSECTION WHICH INVOLVED 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC EACH WAY. MY VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AND RETURNED TO ME THAT EVENING. THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED,COSTING$693.LESS THAN 1MI FROM THE DEALERSHIP THE CAR WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHILE IN THE TURN LANE OF AN INTERSECTION DURING HIGH VOLUME TRAFFIC HRS. IT WOULD NOT RESTART. DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED, THEIR TOW SERVICE ESTIMATED 90MIN WAIT. LOCAL POLICE NOTIFIED DUE TO MAJOR DISRUPTION IN TRAFFIC & FEAR OF SAFETY. WAITED 45MIN, THEN HAD CAR TOWED AT MY EXPENSE.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC SENSOR ON THE DOOR LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I WAS RIDING DOWN THE STREET AT A NORMAL SPEED, ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD A LOUD SOUND. THE CAR STARTED DRIVING REALLY FUNNY. I PULLED OVER ON A SIDE STREET TO SEE IF I HIT SOMETHING,. NOTHING WAS IN THE ROAD, I THEN LOOKED AT THE CAR.THIS IS WHEN I NOTICED MY TIRES ON MY PASSENGERS SIDE HAD BLOWN OUT. I HAD 2 FLAT TIRES. I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 2 MONTHS. THE TREAD ON THE TIRE WAS STILL GOOD, THE ROAD WAS OK, A LITTLE ROUGH BUT I DIDN'T SEE ANY NEED FOR 2 FLATS. THE STEERING ALSO MAKES A LOUD NOISE WHEN I TURN IT TO THE RIGHT AND TO THE LEFT. I HAD IT LOOKED AT BUT OF COURSE THE DEALER SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG. ITS NOT MAKING A LOUD NOISE FOR NOTHING. *TR
DRIVER'S REAR DOOR IS GIVING THE "REAR DOOR AJAR" ALERT. THE DOOR IS CLOSED YET THE ALERT STAYS ON. IT WILL CAUSE THE INTERIOR LIGHTS AND THE REAR VIEW MIRROR LIGHTS TO STAY ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. MY 2011 FORD EDGE WITH 28,000 MILES JUST DROPPED OUT OF THE THREE YEAR WARRANTY AND THE DOOR AJAR WARNING CAME ON AFTER SHUTTING MY CAR DOOR AND WOULD NOT GO OUT. THE DOOR WAS SHUT, BUT THE SENSOR STILL INDICATED THE DOOR WAS NOT CLOSED. AS A RESULT THE AUTO DOOR LOCK WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND INTERIOR LIGHTS STAYED ON. THIS PROBLEM GOT WORSE OVER TIME AND NOW THE DOOR AJAR INDICATOR NEVER SHUTS OFF. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK AS THEY SHOULD AND IF THE DOOR DOES HAPPEN TO BE AJAR YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW. I BELIEVE THERE IS AN EXISTING SERVICE BULLETIN(TSB 14-0011) ON THIS, BUT IT SHOULD REALLY BE A RECALL BECAUSE IT APPEARS TO BE A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY FORDS. I GUESS FORD IS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO FALL OUT OF A MOVING CAR AND GET HURT BEFORE THEY ISSUE A RECALL. INSTEAD FORD HAD ME PAY OVER 600.00 TO FIX THE ISSUE JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
WHEN CLOSING THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE APPEARS AND THE DOME LIGHT STAYS ON. IT TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET THE DOOR TO CLOSE. THERE ARE TIMES WHILE DRIVING THAT THE DOOR WILL INDICATE BEING OPEN LONG AFTER FIRST CLOSING THE DOOR PRIOR TO LEAVING THE DEPARTURE POINT. AFTER DEPARTING HOME OR WORK, THE DOOR WILL INDICATE IT IS CLOSED BUT ACTUALLY IT IS NOT CLOSED AND AFTER DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD A MILE OR SO, IT WILL INDICATE IT OPEN AND ONCE AGAIN IT WILL TAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO ENSURE IT IS CLOSED AND WILL NOT OPEN WHILE DRIVING.
I HAD JUST PURCHASED MY 2011 FORD EDGE SEL DRIVING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER DRIVING IT HOME. I WAS DRIVING ON A TWO LANE HWY WHEN I LOST POWER, A WARNING CAME UP ON THE DASH AWD OFF WITH THE LITTLE TOOL BESIDE IT. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS BEFORE I DROVE AN UNSAFE CAR 45 MINUTED DOWN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE SEEMED FINE BUT STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN. I EMAILED, AND SPOKE ON THE PHONE, TO THE DEARER AND TO FORD. THEY SPECIFIED THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE AND SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, JUST LIKE THE LAST TIME. THEY SAID IF THEY CAN REPRODUCE IT, THEY CAN'T FIX IT. PLUS I WOULD BE CHARGED FOR IT EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM. THERE IS NO WAY FOR THEM TO REPRODUCE IT AT WILL, AS IT ONLY HAPPENS ABOUT 1 TIME PER MONTH. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND JUST FOUND OUT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH WILL BE REPLACED FOR $622.59. MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS THAT THE DEALERSHIP CAN FIND. THOUGH REPAIR PAL INDICATES THERE WAS A RECALL (HTTPS://REPAIRPAL.COM/FORD-EDGE-RECALL-10V659000) AND THE NORTH CAROLINA CONSUMER COUNCIL HAS FILED A PETITION FOR AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER. THREE MONTH LATER I STARTED EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN. I DID NOT HAVE TIME FOR ABOUT A WEEK DUE TO TIGHT WORK SCHEDULE, BUT DURING THAT WEEK IT KEPT OCCURRING AGAIN, HAPPENED 3-4 TIMES. FINALLY WHEN IT WENT FOR SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS THROTTLE ISSUE AND QUOTED ME ABOUT $800 TO FIX IT. UPON FURTHER INQUIRING WITH TECHNICIAN, HE TOLD THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON ISSUE ON FORD VEHICLES. FORD ESCAPE AND FUSION HAVE BEEN RECALLED TO FIX IT UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE SIMILAR PROBLEM, BUT FORD EDGE HAS NOT BEEN STILL COVERED FOR THIS ISSUES. THERE IS A FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM WITH HOW FORD HAS BEEN HANDLING THE ISSUE FOR THE EDGE. WHAT I HAVE FOUND THAT FORD HAS NOT ALLOWING / GIVING OUT SERVICE CENTER TO USE THE CODE TO EXPLORE THE BLACK BOX RIGHT AWAY IF THIS ISSUE COMES UP WHICH LEADS TO DELAY IN FINDING OUT WHAT EXACTLY IS WRONG WITH IT. I HAD TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO STOP SINCE I COULD NOT ACCELERATE, NOR DID THE MOTOR REV WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS. ONCE STOPPED ON SHOULDER, I CUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. IT TOOK LONGER THAN NORMAL TO CRANK. ONCE IT FINALLY STARTED UP I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING WITH NO PROBLEMS. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO A FORD DEALER TO SEE WHAT THE ERROR MESSAGES READ AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY MESSAGES ON MY CAR. THIS FACT MADE IT SO I COULD NOT USE MY WARRANTY COVERAGE TO COVER REPAIR COST. THIS IS LUDICROUS! SINCE THIS ISSUE IS RECURRING AND ,AFTER RESEARCH, FOUND TO BE PREVALENT IN MANY FORD MODELS, FORD SHOULD STEP UP AND RECALL THIS ISSUE BUT THEY WON'T. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE AND COULD CAUSE INJURIES! *TR
WHEN DRIVING ON A 2 LANE MOUNTAIN ROAD AT 60, ENGINE FULLY WARMED UP (RUNNING FOR 20+ MINUTES, AMBIENT TEMPERATURE APPROX 85 F) THE THROTTLE BECOME UNRESPONSIVE AND THE ENGINE RPM DROPPED TO APPROXIMATELY 600 RPM BASED ON THE DASH TACHOMETER. WHEN THIS HAPPENED A YELLOW WRENCH DIALOG WAS DISPLAYED ON THE DIGITAL DASH WITH NO TEXT OTHER THAN "OK". ALL CONTROLS OTHER THAN THE THROTTLE SEEMED TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY. WE WERE GOING DOWNHILL WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND WERE ABLE TO COAST UNTIL WE FOUND A SUITABLE PLACE TO PULL OVER. ONCE WE PULLED OVER WE NOTICED THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND SPUTTERING. WE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND THE ISSUE PERSISTED (ROUGH IDLING AND NO THROTTLE CONTROL). OPENED HOOD AND PULLED ENGINE COVER TO CHECK FOR ANY VISIBLE ISSUES, NONE FOUND. WHEN WE GOT BACK INTO THE CAR THE THROTTLE WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND THE IDLE WAS SMOOTH WITH NO SPUTTERING. WE FINISHED THE REST OF THE DRIVE WITHOUT INCIDENT AND WHEN WE GOT BACK TO THE HOUSE HOOKED UP THE OBDII READER AND NO FAULT CODES WERE STORED. WE TOOK THE EDGE IN TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER (LAWLEY'S TEAM FORD IN SILVER CITY, NM) THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY FOUND NO FAULT CODES STORED IN ANY MODULE AND CHARGED US $122.25 FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS STILL COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE ISSUE BUT SAID IT MAY HAVE BEEN A "RANDOM GLITCH" OR "BAD FUEL". THANKFULLY, THIS HAPPENED ON A LIGHTLY TRAVELED ROAD AND WE WERE HEADING DOWNHILL AND ABLE TO COAST AND FIND A PLACE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. IF THIS WERE A BUSY ROAD OR WE WERE NOT ABLE TO PULL COMPLETELY OFF THE ROAD THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH MORE SERIOUS ISSUE. WE HAVE ONLY OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN A MONTH SO WE CAN'T SAY WHETHER IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE THAT. IT HAS NOT OCCURRED IN THE 1000+ MILES WE HAVE PUT ON THE CAR SINCE IT OCCURRED. *TR
THE ENGINE REMAINS RUNNING, BUT VEHICLE LOOSES ALL POWER TO THE WHEELS AND SUDDENLY STOPS. THIS HAS OCCURRED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS FROM 25 MPH ON A COUNTY ROAD TO 55 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE. IT IS UNSAFE AND THE CAR IS UNABLE TO MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS CLEARLY IS A ISSUE WITH THE MANUFACTURE OF THE VEHICLE, AND DRAMATICALLY IMPACTS SAFETY, INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS CRASH. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE WITH LATER YEARS, INVOLVING A HALF-SHAFT RETENTION CLIP THAT IS NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS ISSUE IS OCCURRING WITH OTHER MODEL YEARS, AND REFUSES TO ADDRESS OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
FAULTY SENSOR IN THE DOOR CAUSES THE CAR TO THINK THE DRIVER DOOR IS OPEN. DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON AND VEHICLE WILL NOT LOCK WHEN DRIVING! LIGHTS EVENTUALLY TIME OUT BUT WHEN INSIDE THE CAR, THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK! I HAVE HAD IT FIXED THREE TIMES NOW AND IT ALWAYS COMES BACK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED EVEN THOUGH ALL THE DOORS WERE CLOSED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LATCHES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
