NOTICED SUBSTANCE IN GARAGE COMING FROM TRUCK THAT WAS OILY. BROUGHT TO MY SERVICE CENTER AND IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THERE IS AN OIL LEAK FROM THE ENGINE OIL PAN RTV SEAL. APPARENTLY THIS IS DUE TO A LACK OF RTV ADHESION. HOW IS THIS NOT A RECALL? THIS IS A MAJOR REPAIR AND EXPENSIVE AT THAT. I JUST WANT TO UNDERSTAND MORE AS THIS AFFECTS MORE THAN JUST MY MODEL AND YEAR FORD VEHICLE.
IT IS MAKING A LOUD DIESEL NOISE ON IDLE OR LESS THAN 10 MILES PER HE. WHEN GOING FASTER THE NOICE GOES AWAY IT IS DOING THIS ALL THE TIME
SOMETIME OVER THE NIGHT THE REAR GLASS SHATTERED AND MY WIFE'S 2015 FORD EDGE SPORT. NO ONE WAS IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME AND THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS 50 IN OUR GARAGE. SHE NOTICED BROKEN GLASS ON THE GROUND BEFORE LEAVING FOR WORK. THE REAR DEFROST WAS NOT BEING USED AND THE VEHICLE WAS JUST SITTING IN OUR GARAGE. I TOOK QUITE A FEW PHOTOS AND I BEGAN LOOKING INTO OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE TO FIND THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM. I'M GLAD SHE WAS NOT DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD OR ON THE HIGHWAY AT THE TIME IT BROKE. GLASS HAS CONTINUED TO FALL INTO THE BACK EVERY TIME YOU OPEN OR CLOSE THE DOOR. I'LL FIRST CONTACT FORD TO SEE IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS COVERED BEFORE LOOKING INTO SAFELITE AUTO GLASS REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN BEFORE THIS IS FIXED.
MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER 20S42. BRAKE FLUID MAY LEAK FROM ONE OR BOTH FRONTBRAKE FLEXIBLE HOSES. PARTS ARE ANTICIPATED TO BEAVAILABLE 4TH QUARTER 2020. SAFETY RISK YOU MAY EXPERIENCE AN INCREASE IN PEDAL TRAVEL TOGETHER WITH A REDUCTION INTHE RATE OF DECELERATION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. ASED ON THE FACT THAT THERE IS IN INCREASED RISK OF ACRASH FORD HAS MISSED THE TIMING OF PARTS AVAILABLE AND HAS OFFERED NO LOANER CAR BASED ON THEIR DELIQUENCY. I FIND THIS TOBE UNACCEPTABLE AND PUTS MY FAMILY AT RISK OF A CRASH FOR ATIME OUTSIDE OF THE NOTICE POSTED ON NHTSA'S WEB SITE.
SHIFTER CABLE DETACHED LEAVING CAR IN CURRENT GEAR HOWEVER DASH INDICATES A DIFFERENT GEAR SUCH AS PARK OR NEUTRAL.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR I STARTED TO NOTICE A RATTLING NOISE FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK, I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE INDICATED THAT MY CAR NEEDED A NEW WATER PUMP, WHICH HE REPAIRED. THIS DID NOT FIX THE RATTLING NOISE AND HE INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR MOST LIKELY HAD A CRACKED FLEXPLATE. UPON CONTACTING FORD CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE, THEY INDICATED THAT MY CAR WOULD HAVE TO BE CHECKED BY AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER TO VERIFY THIS ISSUE. IT WAS VERFIED BY THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE QUOTED ME A REPAIR BILL OF $3,800 AND THAT IS ONLY IF THE ENGINE IS NOT BAD DUE TO THE CRACKED FLEXPLATE ISSUE. FORD HAS NOT OFFERED ANY ASSURANCE THAT THIS WILL NOT RECUR OR ASSISTANCE WITH THE OBVIOUS MANUFACTURERS DEFECT.
I WENT TO GO TO GROCERY STORE AND NOTICED MY BACK WINDOW HAD SHATTERED, IT APPEARED TO HAVE IMPLODED FROM INSIDE TO OUTSIDE OF CAR AS GLASS WAS STILL IN PLACE, JUST SHATTERED AND WAS BULGING TO OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE WITH GLASS ON DRIVEWAY AND NONE ON INSIDE OF CAR UNTIL I OPENED DOOR AND LIGHTLY SHUT DOOR BACK AND A SMALL CHUNK THEN FELL INSIDE OF CAR, MY CAR HAD BEEN STATIONARY AT TIME IT HAPPENED, I DROVE CAR EARLIER THIS AM TO CHURCH AND HAD NO ISSUES, OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 38 DEGREES AND WINDOWS WERE FOGGED UP, SO I DID TURN ON FRONT AND BACK DEFROST FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES UNTIL CLEARED UP, TIME I GOT HOME FROM CHURCH, IT WAS ABOUT 12:45PM, THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND MID 50'S, WINDOW WAS FINE WHEN I PARKED IN DRIVEWAY, THEN ABOUT 5:30PM I WENT TO GET IN VEHICLE AND NOTICED BACK GLASS SHATTERED, I DID LOOK AT IT CLOSELY TO MAKE SURE IT WAS NOT INTENTIONALLY BROKEN, I TOOK SEVERAL PHOTOS TO SHOW WINDOW PUSHING OUTWARDS. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT SAME ISSUE BUT NO FORD RECALLS.
COOLANT WAS LOW ON 11.27.2020 ONLY NOTED DUE TO LOSS OF HEAT IN CABIN. ON 12.10.2020 COOLANT HEAT DID NOT WORK AGAIN CHECKED COOLANT LOW AGAIN TOOK TO DEALER DETERMINED "COOLANT INTRUSION INTO ENGINE CYLINDER 3" ESTEMATED REPAIR COST 8K DOLLARS
I HAVE WHAT APPEARS TO BE A COOLANT LEAK WITH ANY WARNING WHATSOEVER I PURCHASED THE CAR USED (ONE OWNER) 3 MONTHS AGO
THE AREA UNDER SPARE TIRE HAS PUDDLE OF WATER AFTER RAIN.
WHILE DRIVING ACROSS OAK ISLAND 2 LANE BRIDGE AT APPROX 45 MPH, MY EDGE STARTED REVVING AT A HIGH RPM, ONE LOUD CLUNK & CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT LOST ALL TRANSMISSION. I TRIED TO SHIFT IN ANOTHER GEAR, BUT NO POWER TRANSFER. TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY & SHOULDER WAS SMALL. DRIFTED TO STOP IN SHOULDER & CALLED 911. POLICE CAME & PROTECTED MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS IN AN EXTREMELY BAD POSITION. I HAD NOWHERE TO GO IF I WANTED TO MOVE TO A SAFER POSITION. I HAD TO WAIT IN VEHICLE UNTIL POLICE CAME. IT WAS SUNDAY, TOW TRUCK OPERATOR WAS ON CALL. ALL TOTAL I WAS IN THAT LOCATION FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR. HAD CAR TOWED TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED IT TO BE SHATTERED FLYWHEEL AT LEAST. PROBABLY MORE DAMAGE, BUT RECOMMENDED TO HAVE IT SERVICED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP DUE TO THEIR INTERNAL SERVICE BULLETINS NOTING THIS ISSUE. BULLETIN #19-2236 8/6/2019
CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE FLEXPLATE WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH. ALSO DESTROYED THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION PUMP
WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED. I PULLED OVER TO CHECK THE DAMAGE AND CONCLUDED NOTHING HIT THE WINDOW TO CAUSE THIS DAMAGE. WHILE INVESTIGATING (ONLINE REPORTS AND SPEAKING WITH REPAIR SPECIALISTS) THE CAUSE OF THIS DAMAGE MAY BE RELATED TO THE HEATING STRIPS (FOR DEFROSTING) IN THE WINDOW.
MOVABLE SUNROOF WAS DISCOVERED WITH CRACK RUNNING FORE AND AFT. NO APPARENT IMPACT DAMAGE AND VEHICLE IS KEPT IN GARAGE WHEN NOT IN OPERATION.
WHEN PARKING THE VEHICLE THE SHIFTER GOT STUCK IN PARK BUT THE VEHICLE ITSELF WAS STUCK IN NEUTRAL. HAD TO PUT ON PARKING BRAKE AND GET VEHICLE TOWED (09/20). VEHICLE WAS FIXED. ISSUES WITH ELECTRONICS ON SHIFTER (10/19/20). REVERSING OUT OF DRIVEWAY ONTO STREET. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF NEUTRAL. COASTED DOWN THE HILL 500' AND PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AT INTERSECTION. SHIFTER WOULD MOVE BUT THE INDICTOR ON THE DASH WOULD NOT SAY IT WAS OUT OF NEUTRAL. I TRIED A FEW THINGS BEFORE PUTTING IT INTO PARK WHICH AGAIN LOCKED UP THE SHIFTER. SHIFTER WAS STUCK IN PARK BUT VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL. HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED AGAIN TO FORD DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME IT WAS THE SHIFTER BUSHING FELL APART. WAITING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT WITH THIS ISSUE. LUCKILY IT WAS ONLY MYSELF AND NOT MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE WHEN I HAD TO COAST DOWN THE HILL AND LEFT AT AN INTERSECTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V632000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DUNPHY FORD (7700 FRANKFORD AVE, PHILADELPHIA, PA 19136) FOR THE FREE REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER STEERING FUNCTIONALITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD BE AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 81,289.
THE FLEX PLATE/FLYWHEEL HAS NOW FAILED FOR THE 3RD TIME IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS. THIS IS CONFIRMED BY AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALERSHIP AND STILL HAS NO RECALL ON THIS PART THAT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE DAMAGED FLEX PLATE HAS CAUSED MY 2015 FORD EDGE TO HAVE A TERRIBLE RATTLING NOISE AND CAUSES CONCERN FOR SAFETY IF THIS PART WHERE TO BREAK APART WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE WHEELS OR MOTOR TO LOCK UP WHILE IN MOTION. ISSUE BEGAN WHILE CITY DRIVING
I received a letter from Ford Motor Company in September 2020 noting the recall and that I would be notified by mail when the parts are available. Received second letter from Ford Motor Company in May 2021 that the parts are available and to contact a local dealership for scheduling repair. I contacted Bill Estes Ford in Brownsburg, IN who stated that they would order the parts as they didn't have them in stock. I followed up in June 2021 to a report the parts are on backorder and again July 14, 2021 and July 26, 2021 with same response that parts are backordered. July 14, 2021 contacted Ford Motor Company and established a case number which they stated would help force the parts order process and that I should contact the Service Manager at Bill Estes Ford Brownsburg, IN within 7 days to see if they have received the parts. I contacted Bill Estes Ford on July 26, 2021 and was told the parts are still on backorder with an unknown date of delivery. I then contacted Ford Motor Company Customer Service to check the status of my case submitted on the July 14, 2021 and was told the parts are on backorder. My wife is very concerned about the brake system which could fail on this vehicle and it appears that Ford Motor Company (Almost 1 year after notifying me of the recall) still cannot complete the required repair.
MY WIFE AND I OWN A 2015 FORD EDGE WITH APPROXIMATELY 65K MILES. IT IS A DAILY DRIVER FOR MY WIFE. THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A BAD RATTLING NOISE A COUPLE DAYS AGO. WE ALREADY HAD AN APPT. FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP SO I TOLD HER NOT TO DRIVE IT AND TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT WHEN SHE TOOK IT IN. UPON ARRIVAL TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THE TECHNICIAN POPPED THE HOOD, LISTENED FOR A MOMENT AND REPLIED, "I'M 99.9% SURE I KNOW THAT NOISE". HE FURTHER EXPLAINED THEY WOULD NEED TO GET A BORE SCOPE AND LOOK AT THE FLEX PLATE AS THESE VEHICLES HAVE HAD AND ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THE FLEX PLATES CRACKING/BREAKING. THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE MOST OF THE DAY AND CALLED BACK LATER THAT EVENING STATING THAT'S WHAT IT WAS AND THEY NEEDED TO PULL THE TRANSMISSION TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH DAMAGE WAS DONE. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALERSHIP CALLED BACK STATING IT HAS TO HAS A NEW ENGINE DUE TO FLEX PLATE FAILURE, AGAIN. THE COST OF THE REPAIRS ARE ESTIMATED TO BE $5600 AS IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FORD DEALERSHIP ALSO STATED THIS WILL BE THE 3RD FLEX PLATE THAT THIS VEHICLE WILL HAVE HAD: REPAIRED IN 2017, REPAIRED IN 2018 AND NOW 2020. SO THIS WILL BE THE 4TH FLEX PLATE THIS VEHICLE HAS SEEN IN 5 YEARS COUNTING THE ORIGINAL ONE. MY WIFE ORIGINALLY HEARD THE NOISE WHEN SHE STARTED IT AT WORK TO GO PICK UP OUR TODDLER FROM DAY CARE. IT IS VERY LOUD AT IDLE, SORT OF SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE. I'M VERY THANKFUL (AND ACCORDING TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP) THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY AS SHE COULD HAVE LOST ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.
THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF CRACKED TOWARDS THE FRONT WITH NO DAMAGE OR HIT TO CAUSE IT. AFTER RESEARCHING IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FORD EDGE SUNROOFS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER STEERING ASSIST WHICH MADE THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO TURN AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH CORROSION IN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GEAR MOTOR BOLTS. THE MECHANIC REFERRED THE CONTACT TO HENDERSON FORD (810 RIDGE RD, WEBSTER, NY 14580 (585) 787-1700) WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD BE AT HIS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDE THE CONTACT WITH A CASE NUMBER AND REFERRED HIM TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000.
DISCOVERED NON-IMPACT WAVY CRACKS ON THE BACK PANEL OF MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF AS IT WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT AT WALGREEN'S. WAS NOT PARKED UNDER ANY TREES OR OTHER STRUCTURES. CAR STAYS IN GARAGE AND ROOF IS RARELY USED. UPON AN INTERNET SEARCH, THIS APPEARS TO BE COMMON WITH FORD EDGES AND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT.
ACCORDING TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP, A COMMON PROBLEM WITH LUG NUTS SWELLING. DEALER COULDN'T REMOVE WHEELS AND ROTATE TIRES IN ACCORDANCE WITH TIRE MFG. (GOODYEAR) GUIDLINES.
WHILE DRIVING 9/10/2020 ON LOCAL STREET APPROX 35MPH BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, NEEDED TO PUMP BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. REPLACED BRAKE LINE AT MR. TIRE. THIS WAS LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE THAT RUPTURED. VEHICLE WAS AT FORD DEALER FOR BRAKE CHECK 8/6/2020 AND PASSED INSPECTION. ON 12/8/2019 SAME THING HAPPENED TO LEFT FRONT BRAKE. FORD ISSUED A RECALL TODAY ON FRONT BRAKE LINE. I CALLED AND WAS TOLD I SHOULD RECEIVE RECALL LETTER IN A FEW WEEKS FOR FRONT BRAKE LINE. I FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING A CAR WITH DEFECTIVE BRAKES. NO RESOLUTION AS OF TODAY. CALLED FORD DEALER & HOTLINE AND WAS TOLD TO WAIT FOR LETTER BEFORE TAKING ACTION.
Cracked Flexplate, that keeps happening. Replaced in Sept 2020, before the bulletin from Ford was sent to owners. So the replacement was the same faulty flexplute as stated in the bulletin. Soon March of 2023, when the flexplate cracked again, of course I was denied any assist, because I was out of the warranty by 3 weeks! As well, as out of mileage for a 50% assist.
THE LIFT GATE WHEN IT'S OPEN WILL RANDOMLY START CLOSING ON ITS OWN. NO BUTTON HAS BEEN PUSHED AT ALL AND IT JUST STARTS CLOSING. IT DOES NOT SENSE THAT ANYONE IS THERE AND IF I DON'T MOVE QUICKLY ENOUGH OUT OF THE WAY IT WOULD CLOSE ON ME. IT HAS DONE THIS MANY TIMES AND MOST RECENTLY THIS MORNING AS I WAS TAKING SOME THINGS OUT OF THE BACK AND AND THE LIFT GATE STARTED CLOSING ON ITS OWN AND HIT ME IN THE HEAD AND I MOVED OUT OF THE WAY AS QUICK AS I COULD. I'M VERY NERVOUS IF ONE TIME I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY IN TIME.
THIS IS A RE-OCCURRENCE OF THE ISSUE REPORTED AS NHTSA COMPLAINT 11317068. ON 09/01/2020, A DISTINCT RATTLING SUDDENLY OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. GIVEN THAT THIS IS THE EXACT SOUND THAT OCCURRED SIX MONTHS EARLIER WITH THE FLEXPLATE FAILURE, I IMMEDIATELY DROVE TO THE DEALER. (THE FIRST EVENT ENDED IN A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BECAUSE THE DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND DID NOT KNOW IF ANYTHING WAS WRONG SO I KEPT DRIVING THE VEHICLE DESPITE THE RATTLING.) THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE FLEXPLATE UNDER PART WARRANTY (WITH THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS FROM 9/1/20 TO 10/8/20). IN MY PREVIOUS NHTSA COMPLAINT, I LISTED FOUR OTHER IDENTICAL NHTSA COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME MODEL. IN THE INTERVENING SIX MONTHS, I HAVE FOUND TWO MORE COMPLAINTS OF AN IDENTICAL NATURE - NHTSA IDS (11327304 AND 11320476). THIS IS CLEARLY A SYSTEMIC ISSUE WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR LOSS OF CONTROL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED. I URGE A SPECIFIC INVESTIGATION OF THIS MODE OF FAILURE.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was slightly depressed and the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle but was unable to duplicate the failure. Mechanic found no mechanical issues. The contact was concerned that the sensitivity of the brakes could lead to a crash. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however, no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 82,688. Consumer was told by the manufacturer there was no recall.

AFTER STOPPING TO PARK THE CAR IN A STREET PARKING SPOT (THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY), I PLACED THE GEAR SHIFTER IN PARK, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WENT INTO REVERSE. THE SHIFTER CABLE BUSHING DEGRADED AND FELL OFF THE CABLE WHICH DETACHED THE CABLE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. I KNOW THAT OTHER FORD VEHICLES HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, BUT THERE IS NO RECALL ISSUED FOR FORD EDGE VEHICLES EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE WHOLE CABLE (CLAIMED THAT THE BUSHING IS PART OF THE CABLE) AND CHARGED ME $700. THE DEALERSHIP INVOICE AND A COUPLE OF PICTURES OF THE MISSING BUSHING ARE ATTACHED AS A PDF DOCUMENT.

The contact stated that upon parking the vehicle in the driveway and taking groceries inside her residence, his wife heard an abnormal clicking sound coming from the vehicle and the vehicle started rolling down the driveway onto the street independently. The contact stated that the vehicle crashed into the neighbor's vehicle that was parked in the driveway across the street, pushing the neighbor's vehicle into the garage where his neighbor was located. The contact's neighbor sustained back injuries and sought medical assistance. A police report was filed. The contact's vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that there was no open recall and it was not a known failure. The contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train), which he associated to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was not available.

THE FORD EDGE HAS A CRACKED FLEXPLATE AND EMITS A RATTLING NOISE AND FORD WILL NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. A CRACKED FLEXPLATE SHOULD NOT HAPPEN, LET ALONE AT 50K. THE VEHICLE NOW SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL AND PUTS THE DRIVER AND OTHERS AT RISK. SHOULD THE FLEXPLATE FAIL, THE RESULTING DAMAGES AND INJURIES COULD BE DEADLY. FLEXPLATE CRACKED. ONLY 53,000 MILES AND REQUIRES A NEW SHORT BLOCK ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THE FLEXPLATE IS NOTED TO BE A DEFECTIVE PART FROM FORD. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 53,000 MILES. THE CRANKSHAFT, PISTONS, FLEXPLATE, TORQUE CONVERTER AND MANY MORE PARTS ALL HAVE TO BE REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS CRASH OR EVEN DEATH. *TR
While driving at highway speeds, the transmission will make a loud bang and it feels like you ran over an object on the road. The vehicle momentarily (up to 5 seconds) looses all acceleration. This has happened many times, but most concerning is when this happens while entering onto the highway and merging into traffic or passing on a 2 lane road within a passing zone and power is lost and there are oncoming vehicles. This has been reported to the local Ford dealership numerous times, but the same response is received each time, "unable to duplicate transmission problem). The first time this occurred was 02/26/2021 and has continued (25 incidence I have documented) to the most recent time 05/25/23.

THE CONTACT THEN RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V469000(SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) HOWEVER THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. LATER ON, THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE FOR A SECOND TIME AND AGAIN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE THEY LINKED HER FAILURE TO THE RECALL; HOWEVER, THE PARTS STILL REMAINED UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED AND REMAINED IN THE POSSESSION OF THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY 2015 FORD EDGE HAS HAD THE ENGINE LIGHT TURN ON AND OFF SINCE APRIL. AFTER FINDING OUT THAT THERE IS A MISFIRE IN THE 4TH CYLINDER, WE REPLACED THE SPARK PUGS AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO GO AWAY. HOWEVER, ABOUT A MONTH LATER, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON AND THE CAR WAS HAVE DIFFICULTY ON COLD START. TOOK IN TO FORD AND WAS TOLD COOLANT IS LEAKING INTO THE 4TH CYLINDER AND THE ONLY FIX WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE.

AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE TWO NHTSA CAMPAIGNS FOR SIMILAR FAILURES, NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V250000 (STEERING) AND 19V632000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE POWER STEERING, PARKING ASSIST, AND THE POWER STEERING MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,022.
